Trigger warning: cheating, loser Sohee, slight degradation, blowjob.

"Thank you, you are always so sweet. My doll." He thanked, his gaze sweeping over every inch of your body. You smiled, attempting to push aside the uncomfortable feeling; he is your boyfriend's older brother, for goodness sake; of course, you are like a child to him, which is why he called you his doll in an endearing way, right?
"Where are you going?" He inquired as he set his plate aside after finishing the pasta you prepared for him. You gave him a quick glance as you noticed how close he leaned to you. "Out with sohee" you replied, you had a date planned with sohee who was currently upstairs playing video games while you were here left alone with his older brother.
Wonbin let out a sigh that dripped with fake concern, finishing it off with a chuckle that sounded more like a smirk. "Seriously, you're like an angel, doll" he drawled, voice smooth as butter. "Always picking up his slack, cooking fancy meals he probably doesn't even appreciate, and cheering him on like his personal hype squad when he gets owned in his games. Makes me kinda, y'know, sad for you, sweets." He clicked his tongue and tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear in a way that felt more practiced than sweet.
"Don't you deserve better?" His question hung in the air like a loaded question. You gulped, the truth of his words burning a hole in your stomach. He wasn't wrong. You were more like Sohee's mom than his girlfriend, his therapist instead of his partner and sexual pleasure? It was something you never got from Sohee. It was embarrassing to even try having sex with him because he knew nothing, it was pathetic to say the least but you still love him and Sohee loved you, in his own kinda immature way, and sex isn't the only thing which matters right? You can definitely swallow down your frustrations.
"I'll leave now." You tried to sprint upstairs but he held your wrist ''Always so eager to escape, doll'' he drawled, amusement dancing in his eyes. ''Shying away and flushing whenever I'm near... wouldn't anyone mistake it for something more, hmm?'' you were momentarily shook at his audacity before you snapped back, giving him a venomous look "The only one with such delusions is you." Your words caused him to let out a chuckle as he was about to reply, Sohee came downstairs causing you to yank out your wrist from wonbin's grip.
"Baby, I won!" Sohee bounced on the couch, the screen of his phone flashing victory like a miniature lightning storm. You managed a tight smile, your mind churning with the unsettling encounter moments ago. Should you tell him about Wonbin's strange behaviour? Would he believe you? or shrug it off since sohee idolized his handsome brother the most, he always wanted to be like Wonbin. Talking about how he has everyone wrapped around his fingers, no one could ever deny him. He was all it.
"Oh, are we going somewhere?" Sohee asked noticing you dolled up, tilting his head, his eyes sparkling playfully. Your blank stare momentarily dimmed his enthusiasm, but he quickly countered with a wider smile "I guess we are. let me just grab my wallet baby!" Sohee chirped, already bounding up the stairs. His carefree laughter echoed down, each step lighter than a dandelion seed on a summer breeze
Your attention was brought back to Wonbin who let out a mocking chuckle leaning closer to you ear, "Think about what I said," he'd murmured, his breath warm against your ear, sending shivers down your spine. The glint in his eyes, usually full of pride, had held a chilling possessiveness, a stark contrast to his easygoing facade. It was an audacity born of privilege, of a world where his handsome face had always opened doors, the mere flicker of attention from you, his "loser" brother's chosen one, a personal affront to his inflated ego. How dare you look beyond his carefully crafted charm? He deserves to use you for his pleasure not his pathetic brother who can't even get himself to cum.
The entire date with sohee was silencing from your side, you spent most of the time replaying the scenes between you and Wonbin again and again. His sly touches, his longing gazes always did fluster you but you have never thought about having him. He is your boyfriend's brother after all. This was ridiculous of you to even think. He made you uncomfortable and uneasy, that's it.
When you were back from the date, sohee dropped you first at his home, saying he will be back in few minutes as he has some errands to run. You agreed hoping Wonbin isn't in the home currently but you were wrong when you were met with most weird sight ever, he was there sitting on the couch manspreading, his hands pumping his cock furiously as he let out soft moans. The sight had you gasping which caught his attention.
"Back from your little playdate baby?" He asked between his moans. "What the fuck!" You cursed out ready to run out and expose his behaviour to Sohee but instead of that you stood there watching, your feet refusing to move. Why weren't you running? "Come on doll, we all know my brother doesn't deserve you. I know it all."
"He can't even get you to cum, that sweet little pussy of yours deserves to be pleasured, by someone like me." His words had your eyes widened. How did he even know about your private sex life? Did Sohee tell him? Wonbin chuckled at your shocked expression, his hands still jerking off his cock "I know everything baby, let me give you the pleasure which he can never give you." You were supposed to agree or walk up to him but the way your deepest desires took over you. You found yourself on your knees in front of him, his cock deep in your mouth as he let out the nastiest and toe curling moans ever. Pulling on your hair he murmured, "So good, f-fuck. I'll give you twice as much pleasure baby" you rubbed your thighs together to find some relief which didn't go unnoticed by Wonbin who let out a chuckle at your desperation.
"You look so pretty doll, when you are not using your bitchy mouth to defend that little boyfriend of yours, your delicate hands look so pretty wrapped around my cock. I always knew you were a little slut inside, what will Sohee think? Have him watch us? Teach him one or two things, yeah?" His words caused to whimper on his cock as you felt your cheeks flush in humiliation. Wonbin gave a devilish grin feeling satisfied that he tore your walls down, he knew it, everyone deserves some good fucking and you were no better, After all who could ever deny him? He is the one with everything his brother lacks. He knew you were just pretending to be loyal to his loser brother, pretending to just love him, when he could not even pleasure your little pussy. Speaking of him-
"H-Hyung?"

PART III of XX

⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
The following week was routine once more. Natasha didn't revisit the café, which you couldn't tell if you felt relief or not. David did lecture that you had to be more careful because it was most likely that Black Widow was looking into your background. He wasn't worried she'd find anything, but one can never be too careful.
Steve stopped by the café less too, as they now hung out outside the café more regularly. You had finally given in and hired two more people to the café and promoted Sarah to the manager position, so you didn't have to spend too much time there yourself. You essentially only came in when you knew Steve was going to be in...or maybe on the off chance Natasha would come in again.
Allison's mother was finally discharged from the hospital, but with all the missed time from work, you still found yourself looking after the young girl while her mother picked up extra shifts—not that you minded.
It was currently the weekend, and you had planned to take Allison to the park for a picnic and some games. You had asked Steve to tag along if he wasn't busy, but it turns out that he did have work that day. He seemed really crushed that he wasn't going to be able to go, but you had assured him it would be fine, and they could get together another time.
It was strange. They weren't dating or anything, definitely just friends. But the last time they had gone out together with Allison, the number of strangers who commented they looked like a beautiful family made you panic a bit, especially with the wistful look on Steve's face. It seemed like he was thinking about other things as people made those comments, though, not necessarily wistful to have a family with you.
And you knew—about this lost love, about Peggy Carter.
The poor man seemed unable to move on while wanting to, but then feeling guilty about it. Since you were supposed to pretend not to know anything, it wasn't like you could talk to him about it. So, they were stuck in this weird limbo.
"Lainey, can we please get peaches?"
You immediately brought your attention back to Allison, who you had in your shopping cart with multiple things strewn in for their picnic date.
You grinned at the kid, "Alright, put the puppy face away, you're killing me here. We can definitely get some peaches."
As the two of you stood in front of the peaches, you meticulously picked out peaches as Allison animatedly recalled a story.
"Really? How interesting," you hummed to Allison.
"Quite a cute one you've got there."
The gruff voice brought your attention away from the peach. You looked up to see a man in his late 30s standing next to your cart with a basket.
"Thanks," you said politely but curt.
"My name's Glenn. I just wanted to say hi," He gave you a flirty grin and held out his hand.
"Hi," you shook his hand politely as he stared at your gloved hands.
"Cold?" He asked.
"Something like that," you said with a wry grin.
"Anyways," you said with an eyebrow raised at the stranger, "We've got to head off now, nice to meet you."
Just as you were turning away with the cart, the man grabbed you by the arm to stop you.
"Wait!"
You clenched her jaw, turning back to him, eyes darkening, and just as you were about to speak a command, someone grabbed his arm and gripped it tightly enough to make the man let go. You blinked, your eyes clearing as you looked over to see Natasha standing there, her jaw set in a tight line and eyes entirely calm.
"I think you should leave now," her voice was low, and she gripped the man's arms tightly enough for him to wince before she let go with a fling.
The man looked like he wanted to say something, but there must've been warning bells in his head when he looked at Natasha, so he grumbled and turned to leave.
Natasha turned her attention back over to you, eyeing the kid from the side. Steve definitely did not mention that you had a kid.
"Natalie! What a surprise. Thanks for that, really," you said sincerely, a happy grin on your face.
"No worries," Natasha shook her head with a wave of her hand.
"You're not working today?" You asked curiously. It was only about one in the afternoon.
Natasha grinned. "Got off early today," she said simply.
"Lainey...peach..." Allison whined slightly, her lips jutting out in a pout. You turned over with a slight chuckle and roll of your eyes.
"Alright, alright, I've got the treasure in tow, we can go." You turned back to Natasha, biting your lip slightly. It was a long shot, but why not. Sometimes it was better to keep people like Natasha close to ward off suspicion.
"Listen, I don't know if you're busy today. We're about to head to Central Park for a picnic. Steve couldn't make it, but would you...would you like to join us?"
It was a lot to ask someone who you've spoken to just once, even though it was a lengthy time. Natasha considered it for a moment with a tilt her head.
"I'd love to," she said after a moment. If the opportunity to get to know the mysterious girl presented itself, why not?
You smiled, "Great! We'll meet you there. Bring anything you'd like, but I do have a lot of food and drinks."
With that, you went separate ways before shortly meeting up at the park again. You made small talk as you put out a picnic blanket and set everything down. Natasha helped carry some things, and as they sat down, Allison already pulling the kite that you packed.
"Oh, hold on, I'm just going to get her set up," you said, walking off with the bouncing child.
Natasha watched from a distance, arms crossed as she sat with her legs pressed together and on her side.
She thought about calling Steve to see what the deal was with the kid but decided against it since she didn't want to end up answering the hundreds of questions the guy would have about seeing you. Allison didn't quite look like she was yours as the two of you shared different hair and eye colors.
Maybe a niece?
Before she knew it, you were back and taking a seat with a small huff.
"Tired?" Natasha asked with a grin.
You gave her a wry grin back, "Think I'd be used to that bundle of energy now, but she definitely keeps me on my toes."
"Is she yours?" Natasha asked with a tilt of her head.
You shook your head, feeling like a broken record with how much you had to repeat things.
"Oh, no. She's my neighbor's kid. She's a single mom and just got out of the hospital. They don't have any other family in the city, so I offered to watch her. Now, her mom is picking up some extra shifts to make up for what she's missed, so I watch her when needed."
Natasha gave a small gentle smile. "You have a lot of free time?"
You shrugged, "Well, I did end up hiring more people and promoted my one employee to be a manager. So, yeah, I guess I do have more free time now."
Natasha hummed. "I guess your side book rentals does make a good profit after a certain point."
You laughed, "Sure does! I'm like a blockbuster."
"You do know they went out of business, right?" Natasha said with a raise of her eyebrow and a smirk.
"I'll become Netflix then," you replied right back without missing a beat. It caused Natasha to chuckle. With that, you pulled out a thermos and some paper cups.
"Coffee?" You asked, and Natasha nodded. You handed the redhead a cup, and the aroma already made Natasha feel warm.
"Mmm," Natasha purred at the taste. "Seriously, there's got to be a secret ingredient in this coffee. I refuse to believe you can just make it this good."
You jokingly looked affronted. "Well, suck on it. I do just make it that good."
You pulled out the peaches that you bought, wiping them clean with a wet paper towel, and began to cut it with a knife. Natasha watched, again, with the black gloves but also that it was clear that you were experienced with holding a knife as you cut it with ease and quickly. You took out the pit and shaved off peach skin into a plastic bag and put the sliced peaches in a container.
"Allison!" You called out. The little girl looked over and beamed with pure happiness as she trotted over for the fruit.
"Thanks, Lainey!" Allison made a move to grab a slice, but you grabbed the girl's hand gently.
"Hold it there, my little criminal. The last thing we need is sticky fingers. Here, use a fork."
Allison grinned as she grabbed the utensil with the fruit already on it and took a bite. She eyed Natasha, and the redhead smiled at her.
"Are you friends with Steve?" Allison asked, remembering that you told Natasha that Steve couldn't make it.
Natasha looked taken aback slightly before smiling at the kid. "Yeah, we're friends."
Allison simply nodded but didn't ask any more questions, which Natasha found a little strange.
"Okay," she said simply. Maybe the kid was assessing her?
"Do you like peaches?" Allison asked, and Natasha blinked. She should be more used to this, with Clint having kids and all.
"Yeah," Natasha replied with ease. "They're delicious."
Allison grinned, and Natasha felt like she passed some sort of test.
"Great!" Allison exclaimed, passing over her container with some peaches left. "You can have some of my peaches. I'm going to go play now. If you play with me later, I'll tell you some funny stories about Lainey."
You looked in disbelief as you looked at the child, "Don't you dare, Allie."
Allison stood up, grabbing the frisbee, spotting some other children in the field. She laughed, looking at Natasha once more and winked as she ran off.
Natasha had to put her hand over her mouth as she tried to control her laughter. You glared playfully at the redhead.
"I can't believe I was just used as leverage for your participation," you muttered.
"Why? You got some really embarrassing stories?" Natasha smirked.
You merely pursed your lips together and pretended to zip your lips, and Natasha found herself relaxing a little more. She really should use this opportunity to find out more about you, but she found that it was just natural to be the moment with you.
But as you handed her a cut sandwich that had a fried cutlet in it with a mystery sauce, Natasha found it was the time to ask about the gloves.
"Are you a germaphobe? Or perpetually cold?" Natasha found that the weather itself was warm, no need for gloves. She knew some people with arthritis would wear gloves, but the type that you wore didn't seem like it was for warmth.
"Kind of a germaphobe," You answered, without missing a beat. You took a bite of the sandwich, leaning a little back.
"Nothing extreme, but working at the café and touching money has gotten me sick a couple times. I don't like touching things directly if I can help it."
Natasha nodded, enjoying the sandwich. She didn't question it too much when there were people like Tony Stark out there with weird quirks himself.
"So, I guess since you know I own the café, what do you do?"
"I'm a personal assistant for Stark Industries," Natasha answered, eyeing your reaction. You didn't seem to react much.
"Oh, cool. Must keep you busy if you work for Tony."
"You know Tony Stark?" Natasha asked with an eyebrow raised, and you gave her a look.
"Who doesn't know Tony Stark? Even I, a hermit, would know."
Natasha smiled, but she felt it. There was something off about you. Knowing Tony Stark meant knowing about him being an Avenger. So, you had to know about other members who were publicly known. Steve had been doing so many interviews.
But Steve wouldn't appreciate her asking outright.
Even if she wanted to, Allison had come back from playing frisbee. You gave the girl a hand wipe and handed her a sandwich and juice that was in a bottle to avoid spilling.
"Alright, kid. We got enough time for one more game, and we're gonna head out. Your mom said she's going to be home for dinner. Choose wisely."
Allison pursed her lips, gripping her bottle before she seemed to come to a decision.
"Jenga! I'm going to win this time."
You smirked, "alright."
Allison immediately moved over to Natasha. "Can we team up? Lainey never loses in this game!"
Natasha blinked, looking over to you, who nodded. The redhead looked back to the kid and smiled. "Alright, we'll secure victory this time."
"In your dreams! Allie will spill my dirty secrets, so there will be no mercy."
With the game set up, they began. You were pretty good, but Natasha was just as good. The redhead noticed that you had incredibly steady hands. As you took pieces out, your hand was impossibly still.
Eventually, they had gotten to where the stack was pretty unsteady, and a lot of the levels had only the middle pieces, including the bottom. It was coming down to that even trying to take any side pieces would result in the stack collapsing. As it was Natasha's turn, she eyed the stack, calculating her best bet. It would have to be the bottom piece. She steadied her hand as she latched onto the piece, and with precision and quickness, she yanked out the piece, the stack moving down perfectly without even swaying.
Allison cheered, and Natasha smirked at you. You didn't even look phased. You eyed the stack, and just like Natasha, it would be foolish to try to grab a side piece.
This was it.
Natasha watched in disbelief as she saw you eyeing a middle piece that was literally in the middle level of the stack with no side pieces.
No, you wouldn't.
Would you?
There was no way you could grab that without having the stack fall over.
You lifted your gloved hand and put your fingers in a flicking motion, and with just the right amount of force and speed, you flicked the piece out, and it flew right into Natasha. The stack lowered another level and barely swayed as it settled.
You looked at Natasha smugly.
"ты серьезно," Natasha muttered are you serious in Russian and she swore, the slight twitch in your lip made Natasha believe that you knew what she said, but as quick as she saw it, it was gone.
"Ugh," Allison groaned, taking out a piece, making the entire stack collapse. "I'll never beat you, Lainey."
You laughed as you collected the pieces to put away. "Practice, sweetpea. You can challenge me in the next lifetime."
You cackled as Allison playfully threw a piece at you in retaliation.
"Don't worry, we'll get her next time," Natasha said to comfort the young girl who leaned against her and sighed.
"There's a next time?" You asked playfully, and Natasha tilted her head.
"Should there be?" The redhead asked back cryptically.
You licked your bottom lip slightly, the action drawing Natasha's attention to it.
"Yeah," You said finally. "We're friends, right?"
Natasha nodded. "Yeah, friends."
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
It was a few days again before you saw Natasha at the café. She seemed to stop by more often now to pick up coffee but didn't have the time like Steve did to sit around and chat with you.
It was fine by you, it seemed like Natasha did find you odd, but not to the point where she was investigating you.
It was becoming a problem, though. You liked Natasha and Steve, liked spending time with them. But the more you did, the more you were putting yourself at risk, putting David at risk.
You figured you would have to leave soon. Maybe tell them you had a family member in another country that was ill, and you needed to take care of them. Then, you would die in a fiery car crash with nothing to identify you but your dental records and disappear and start over with a new identity.
It was another month that passed that neither Steve or Natasha showed up, and it worried you.
Steve used to stop by 3-4 times a week and Natasha at least 3 times when she was free. You were aware that sometimes they would have missions, but they were always back within days, the latest a week.
That night, you called David.
"What's up? Great timing, I have some more news about The Winter Soldier and the descendants." You got an immediate reply.
"Great, brief me on that later. I need you to look up something else. Something's wrong. I haven't seen Steve or Natasha in over a month. Can you find anything?"
You could hear something like "good riddance" being mumbled, but you chose to ignore it.
"Oh shit," David finally said.
"What? What's wrong?"
"Steve has been listed as a fugitive. It looks like SHIELD is compromised by HYDRA. Black Widow is most likely helping him, and Nick Fury is dead."
It was quiet on the other line for a bit, you could hear him clicking on his keyboard.
You were shocked, and worry overcame you. Steve was a fugitive?
"Ah shit, this was what I wanted to tell you. The Winter Soldier is in America, caught him on a couple street cameras. He killed Nick Fury."
"Is the man actually dead?" Based on your past experience, there was no way the man would die that easily.
"I'll have to look more into that and get back to you. I don't know. There's a lot of shady shit going on within SHIELD. It doesn't look good right now for them."
"Where are they? Can you find them?"
"Hold on, let me find any live feed from street cameras."
The minutes passed by agonizingly as you heard typing on the keyboard and the mouse clicking.
"Okay, I've got visuals. I'll send the details to your phone. What are you going to do?"
You were already changing and packing anything you might need.
"Well, I know The Winter Soldier doesn't play around. I can't just let them deal with whatever's happening. I need you to send more intel to my cell, okay?"
David was silent. "You know this means you're exposing yourself, don't you?"
You sighed. "Yes, but...I don't know...I care about them enough."
David let out a huge frustrated sigh. "Fuck sake's, fine. I'll send you some details. You better hope our asses don't get imprisoned."
"Well, if Fury is really dead, we might not have to worry about that too much. Worst case scenario, we can work for Stark."
"Oh, so we just really exposing our asses to everyone now."
"Well, I highly doubt we'll be able to keep our existence a secret to just two Avengers."
"I hate you."
You let out a chuckle as David hung up. You sent a text to Allison's mother that you would be out of town indefinitely handling some personal business, but you left some money and a babysitter's number in Allison's drawer when you were over the other day in case of emergencies.
Grabbing your car keys, you left.
Somehow, you knew you were going to change everything by doing this, but maybe that wouldn't be the end of the world.

Meet Me In The Woods
Summary: Jude and Cardan’s first meeting as children. One shot. Rated G
Jude was running as quickly as her short legs could carry her through the strange and terrifying fields and wooded areas of this weird place- Efham? What had that mean green monster called it again? She didn’t care, all she knew was she wanted out and back home, back to her mother and father-
But they were no more. She wasn’t sure how to feel about that. She missed them so much but couldn’t quite wrap her head around the fact that they were gone. She felt that if she ran fast and far enough away, she could run right back into her mother’s arms.
She hadn’t stuck around long enough to listen to the pretty lady with shiny hair tell them about this place. As soon as…Maddy? Maden? What was that monster’s name? As soon as he had ushered them off the strange ponies and into the big house, Jude immediately began searching for a way out. She herd something about princes and princesses and how they shouldn’t eat anything offered to them, but after that she had split.
She would go back for Vivi and Taryn once she found a way out. Then they could go back home and…well, they would figure the rest out later...
Meanwhile, a young, dark haired prince was fleeing from a murder scene.
Cardan was running as fast as he could through the grasslands of his home and into the wooded area near Hollow Hall. Dain had murdered a mortal and was going to blame it on him. His father would never listen. Even if they couldn’t lie, Dain had orchestrated it in such a way that he could say Cardan’s arrow had embedded itself into that human. He wouldn’t even be able to say the words “It wasn’t me!” before his father cast some punishment upon him.
So he ran.
Like a coward.
A relatively safe coward, though.
He wasn’t sure what he would do, where he would go. His mother had vanished and his father must have hated him, his siblings couldn’t care less whether he lived or died. He wasn’t exactly safe anywhere, even as a prince.
He just needed to get somewhere he could stop and think. Somewhere he could calm down enough to garner the courage needed to face his cruel family. Somewhere-
His thought process was brutally cut off as he collided with someone coming from the opposite direction. There was enough force behind the action that they were both sent sprawling to the ground in heaps of breathless fabric and tense muscles.
He would have told off whoever dare run into a prince of Elfhame, but he was panting and crying, and he had just been framed for a murder he didn’t commit and he really didn’t feel like throwing up that cruel front he used to get attention. He just wanted a break.
Jude lay, stunned, on the ground, trying to catch her breath as she gazed up at the star-dotted sky through tear filled eyes. Of course this would happen. Of course someone would interrupt her great escape. As if the fear of trying to run at all wasn’t bad enough in the first place, now she had to fear being dragged back to that horrible house, kicking and screaming. That monster killed her parents, she dreaded to think what he would do to her if she made him mad.
Sniffling brought her attention to the present. She hadn’t even thought to look at who she’d run into- just immediately assumed it was one of the big scary… things she saw around the house, sent to come take her back. But she was surprised when she sat up and was met with the sight of a boy, not much older then her, sitting there with tears streaming down his cheeks.
Jude’s first instinct was to get up and start running again, this boy scared her. He didn’t look like her, or any of the other kids she’d seen when she went to school. He had dark hair and darker eyes. Pointy ears- just like Vivi’s- and…was that a tail? What was this place?
The boy wiped the tears from his pale cheeks with a fist before regarding her with curiosity.
For some reason, Jude felt the need to stay seated. He was crying too. Maybe the fall had hurt him? Or maybe he was running too.
Cardan had finally turned to his assailant, only to find it was no assassin. It was another child. A mortal child. Cardan felt like he was going to be sick.
He noted, as he wiped his tears away that she was also crying. Had she been hurt when they collided? Her hair was shiny and full, and she looked completely aware of her surroundings. Maybe she had been glamoured and woke up somehow? If that was the case, then she needed to get back to her station before she was found and…
There was that sick feeling again.
Jude opened her mouth, intending to say something, anything, to get her out of this strange creature’s sights and back on the run.
She did not expect the first thing out of her mouth to be, “I won’t eat anything.”
The boy looked a bit stunned at this. He titled his head. Obviously that wasn’t what he expected her to say either.
Or maybe he didn’t speak English? Jude tried again.
“I said,” she started, drawing out the words so he would understand, “I. Won’t. Eat. Anything. You. Give. Me.” For some reason that’s what stuck with her out of the pretty lady’s welcome speech.
Cardan rose an eyebrow, why was she speaking like that? “I heard you the first time.”
Jude started. Oh. So he did understand. He sounded funny though, that same strange way of talking that monster and the pretty lady at the house had. It just made Jude want to cry more. Nothing was normal here.
“Who are you?” Cardan asked when she stayed silent.
Jude sniffed and raised her chin, “Jude Duarte.”
Well he had never heard of the name Duarte before. And she obviously wasn’t faerie. If her looks hadn’t already given that away, then her total willingness to give up full name would have.
She shocked him when she asked, “Who are you?” didn’t she know that already?
Cardan scowled, that now familiar instinct to block everyone out with hate flaring up again, “Cardan Greenbriar. Prince of Elfhame.”
Jude shook her head, completely ignoring his tone, “This place is weird.”
Affronted, Cardan barked the first thing that popped up in his head, “You’re weird.”
“No you are!” she shot back with a glare, “Everyone here is. That monster has green skin and that lady had white hair, and you have a tail and pointy ears like my sister.” She took a breath, “Everyone looks so scary.” She gripped her knees and drew them into her chest. She wanted to block out everything that was scaring her right now.
Cardan could agree with that at least. The folk were either beautiful or ugly. No in between. No ordinary, not like the girl in front of him.
Jude.
The name sounded strange, sounded mortal. He supposed he must have sounded strange to her. He sighed and said, “Yes, it can be.” He thought of Balekin and his evil grins. Of Dain and his wicked ways. Of his own father and the inability to love him like he loved his siblings. Even of General Madoc, always wearing a blood-drenched cap to important meetings. For the mortal’s sake, he hoped she never had to meet him.
Jude sniffed again, “Why…why were you crying?”
Cardan stiffened. He couldn’t tell her. It was complicated and bloody, and she looked really scared. No need to further petrify her. He shook his head, “Doesn’t matter. What about you?”
Jude had no qualms about dishing out what had happened, “The green monster killed my mom and dad. Then he took me and my sisters here. I was trying to go back.”
Green monster? Cardan assumed she was talking about one of the Goblin-Folk. Maybe a redcap…there was no way…
Before he could ask if it was Madoc that stole her, someone was calling out from the woods.
“Jude! Where did you go?”
Jude sighed, “That’s Vivi.” She stood and sent him one last glare, “Don’t tell anyone you saw me here.”
And then she was off, running towards whoever Vivi was. Cardan balked, who was this harebrained mortal to tell him what to do?
He growled and stood, noting that his tail was twitching nervously. Thinking of Jude’s mortification with the thing, and his own inability to hide his true emotions when it was out, he pouted and tucked it into his breeches.
He wasn’t sure what else to do. Nothing he did would convince his father that he had never and would never hurt a mortal. The only thing he could do was face his punishment with the grace of a prince. Rolling his small shoulders, he turned back to the palace and disappeared into the night.
~.~
The next day a revel was held as per usual. Cardan was forced to attend, even though he would much rather be up in his room studying or packing. After he had gotten back to the palace, his father had been unhappy with him. Predictably, he hadn’t listened to a word Cardan had to say and simply told him to prepare his things for packing. He would be moving to Hollow Hall with Balekin to be taught how to behave as a proper prince. Though he would still be attending school with the other Gentry.
Now, here he was, being forced to put on a fake smile as if to say “Don’t worry! Everything is fine within the royal family. You can completely trust our judgment on everything!” his only source of comfort- no matter how minor- were his friends. Nicasia was staying above water to uphold peace between the Undersea and Elfhame land. Valerian had no one better to spend his time with and Locke was always in the mood for fun. Despite his usual meddling, he could get Cardan to lighten up every so often.
Cardan stood at the dais with his family whilst guests were introduced. The young prince had little interest in this until General Madoc stepped forward.
With three young girls in tow.
As though they had been trained overnight, the three bowed alongside Madoc before straightening and going back to staring around in wonder.
Cardan locked eyes with Jude Duarte.
Or at least, he thought it was Jude. Next to her was an exact copy, the two girls were completely identical. Twins, Cardan recalled the term. Extremely rare in faerie, but still possible. Still, seeing it up close was strange. He absently wondered if it was like being two halves of one person, or the same person but doubled.
“General.” Eldred regarded Madoc, “I see you have brought company.”
Madoc nodded, “My daughters. Once hidden away in the mortal realm with their mother. Now where they belong.”
“One of them, at least.” The High King stated, eyeing the one that wasn’t a twin. Vivi, Cardan remembered Jude calling her.
She glared back and Cardan mused that he liked her. Liked Jude as well, if he were being honest- which he had no choice in being.
Madoc nodded solemnly, “My wife was… unfaithful. We thought she had died with my unborn child nine years ago in the estate fire. I recently found out she had in fact staged her death and escaped to the mortal realm with her new lover. Justin. The blacksmith if you recall?”
Eldred nodded, following along with the interesting tale. Cardan’s curiosity was piqued as well.
“They had offspring,” He gestured to the twins, “Taryn and Jude. When I found my wife, I… righted matters.”
“You killed them.” Vivi cut in, her tone like acid. Madoc winced.
“I knew the children could not be without a home, so I have taken them in. I plead they take their rightful place among the Gentry, and be granted the right to an education here in the palace alongside the other children.”
The High King nodded, not willing to reject a request from his general so simple as this. “Of course, they will train right alongside my own son, Cardan. The youngest of his siblings and still in school.” He waved the prince forward and Cardan had to comply.
“Say hello.” Eldred ordered, masking it with a light tone. Cardan inwardly cringed. This was meant to disgrace him, putting him on display in front of the General’s bastard offspring. He locked eyes with who he hopped was Jude (He was probably right, he got an icy glare in return) and nodded his head.
“Hello.”
Eldred smiled and removed the hand he had placed on Cardan’s shoulder, “I hope you’ll get along. Now please, enjoy the festivities.”
Madoc nodded and turned from the royal family, ushering the three girls along. Jude sent a glare back at them. She hated it here and no amount of nice words would change that.
Cardan watched them go with a strange feeling setting into his chest, not quite sadness…loneliness, maybe? Perhaps in a different world, they could have all been friends.
As they mixed with the crowd, a single name rang through the young prince’s head to a curious little melody.
Jude.
~.~
Years later, the High King and High Queen lay together under a large tree.
Cardan gently ran his fingers through his wife’s full and shiny hair. Quietly he asked, “Do you know what’s special about this place, love?”
Jude pretended to think about it, placing her fingers to her chin in mock thought, “Hmm…this is where our favorite type of flower grows best?” She giggled as her husband tugged a lock of her hair. After a moment she whispered against his chest, “Of course I remember. It’s where I met my greatest enemy!”
Cardan stuck out his bottom lip in a pout. She was playing dirty now…
Swiftly, Jude kissed the pout away. When she pulled back, she traced the fine point of his ear, saying, “It’s where I first met the love of my life.”
Let me know what you guys think!

So in news surrounding my writer's life, today I have been accused of plagiarism. This is, of course, total bullshit, but if anyone is looking to accuse me of that again, they are free to reach out to me here, where I will happily disprove their baseless accusations.
In the meantime, anyone who is simply hoping to read a little something fluffy, silly, and romantic involving our favorite MC couple, is welcome to do so on AO3, or on ffnet, or right here below:
Sore Loser
"I don't know what statistics you've been reading up on, but they stand no chance whatsoever," Sharon said, her tone no nonsense.
"Forget the statistics," Andy disagreed, rather heatedly, "they've got this, you'll see."
"No, honey," Sharon's tone went up to a faux sympathetic one, "you'll see."
This was the conversation Rusty walked in on as he ventured out of his room in search of a bottle of water to take with him before heading out. He found his mother and her husband in what seemed to be a verbal standoff, glaring at each other in challenge from their respective sides of the couch.
He burst whatever weird bubble they were in. "What on earth are you two bickering about now?" He said the last word on a whine, more than justified in his exasperation, seeing as he had lost count of how many times he had found them like this.
Both heads turned in his direction.
Andy instantly muttered, "Football," while Sharon rolled her eyes and said indignantly, "We're not bickering."
Rusty laughed and pointed a finger between them, continuing his stroll toward the kitchen. "You should try getting your stories straight."
He didn't hear his mother's response, but distinctly made out Andy's grumbled, "Smartass."
By the time Rusty had retrieved his water and walked back to the living room, the two had left their opposing ends of the couch and met in the middle, Sharon tucked into Andy's side as he flipped through the TV channels.
"Made up already?" Rusty teased, then made a disgustingly sweet 'aaww' sound.
Sharon lifted her head to grace him with a half-hearted glare, but it was Andy, who without sparing him even a glance, and blowing his annoyance ever so slightly out of proportion by adopting a particularly exasperated tone, grumbled, "Don't you have somewhere else to be?"
The question halted Rusty just short of the hallway leading down to his room. "As a matter of fact, I do." When his eyes landed on Andy's final choice on the TV, he pointed his bottle at the screen and grimaced exaggeratedly. "And thank goodness that I do."
"What's wrong with watching football?" Sharon asked, mildly offended, and turned to face Rusty fully.
"Oh, watching football's just fine," Rusty shook his head, "it's watching it with you two that just..." he trailed off on a feigned shudder.
Sharon suddenly turned back to Andy. "You're right. He is a smartass."
Andy let out a throaty chuckle. "Mark the date and time." He made a show of checking and tapping his watch. "Sharon Raydor admits Andrew Flynn is right about something."
Sharon's eyes narrowed, and she leaned back a little to cross her arms, then pursed her lips as she leveled Andy with a stare that quickly dampened his earlier luster. Suppressing a proud grin for being able to mess with him quite so easily, Sharon kept her tone teasing, even as her voice dipped low, and she simply said, "Oh, I cannot wait to see your team get crushed to a pulp."
Making a conscious effort not to roll his eyes at them, Rusty interjected before the situation could escalate, or worse, potentially scar him for life. "His team?" he asked, genuinely curious, as he waved his bottle at the TV again. He might be clueless about the sport in general, but even he could tell neither Sharon nor Andy's favorite team was playing that day. "You know what?" he added quickly, raising a hand in a 'stop' gesture before either one could reply. He shook his head, too, deciding he didn't need any more details. "Nevermind. I'll just, uhm," he hooked a thumb in the direction of his bedroom, already retreating that way with a couple of backwards steps, "head out before you two football freaks make me seriously question ever agreeing to being part of this family." He turned on his heel, and quietly, but still loudly enough for them to hear, corrected himself. "Or well, before Mom does anyway."
Andy burst out laughing, breaking Sharon's concentrated effort of still staring him down. Her eyes went wide at her son's (only too warranted) words and she swallowed an offended gasp, then tilted her head in Rusty's direction to sing-song after him, "It's called being passionate about something!"
When no response came, Andy tugged on her arm until she unfolded them and pulled her into his side again. "Don't worry," he squeezed her gently, "I for one love the football freak in you." When Sharon stiffened, no doubt wanting to pull back and slap him with one more glare, he quickly tightened his hold around her, and plopped a kiss into her hair all the while grinning. Sharon let it go quickly, however, only muttering something that sounded suspiciously like 'Surrounded by smartasses,' and by the time they returned their attention to the TV, Rusty finally shuffled back to the front door.
"It's called being ridiculous," he informed her quite matter-of-factly, then without further ado and certainly without expecting either Andy's or Sharon's response, swung open the door and walked out with a, "I'm off, bye!"
Affronted by the young man's audacity, Sharon pushed herself off Andy's chest and watched with wide eyes as the door closed behind him, speechless. On a chuckle, Andy pointed his finger at it. "He gets that from you, you know?"
Sharon frowned, looking back at him in confusion. "Gets what from me?"
"Wanting to always have the last word," Andy quipped.
She smacked him across the chest even as she made herself comfortable against his side again. "Oh, hush you."
Undeterred, Andy kept on chuckling, then, as the commentators started discussing pregame statistics and strategies, randomly asked, "Do we have any snacks?"
Sharon tilted her head up to look at him. "We just ate."
"So what?" Andy shrugged, shaking her a little in the process. "Can't watch football without having something to munch on."
Sharon gave him a serious look of consideration, and Andy could practically hear the wheels of her sense of occasion turning. "You make a good point," she decided, giving his arm a squeeze as she untangled herself from it.
Andy grinned smugly and pumped his fist in victory. "I'm on a roll tonight!"
Sharon shook her head at him, then inclined it to the side, her brow creasing together in seriousness. "Healthy snacks though," she said sternly, getting to her feet to round the couch.
Andy flopped his head down onto the backrest of the couch and groaned. "Like carrot and celery sticks?" he suggested sarcastically, but there was genuine dread in the words as well.
"Why not?" Sharon countered, brushing her fingers through his hair as she walked past his head.
Unable to tell if her tone indicated those were exactly the kind of snacks she had in mind or not, Andy narrowed his eyes, rolling his head to follow the rest of her movement. "Maybe this," he waved a hand at the empty coffee table, "is just fine after all."
She laughed, then disappeared from view.
Andy huffed. He didn't often get these cravings. He'd gotten used to and even learned to enjoy their heart-healthy diet, but today he'd kill for a bucket of greasy chicken wings or a box of even greasier pizza. Even a pack of pretzel sticks or a bag of chips would do. Anything would, but the likes of celery and carrots.
"You sure about that?" Sharon's voice carried to him from the kitchen, pulling Andy out of his self-pity.
Her teasing undertone only confused him, until he heard the ping of numbers being punched into the microwave. He straightened on the spot instantly. "What's that?" he asked suspiciously.
Sharon poked her head out into his field of view, and wiggled an eyebrow at him. "You'll see," she said, cryptically.
Andy didn't dare hold high hopes for confirming his suspicions, but when he heard a pop, soon followed by a number of others, he grinned widely. "You mean I'll hear," he said, loudly enough for her to hear him over both the sound of the microwave and the popping.
Sharon appeared again, walking back toward the couch carrying two tall glasses of water, and smiled at his excited disposition. "Better than carrots and celery?" she asked, handing him the glasses to put on the coffee table. When he did, she turned her back to him and leaned against the back of the couch.
Andy sank into the cushions and looked at her with a dreamy smile on his face. "Much."
She chuckled, then ran a hand affectionately down the side of his face, no doubt to lessen the blow of the words that followed. "There is a catch, however."
"Ugh." Andy grunted. "I knew it was too good to be true," he grumbled petulantly.
Sharon laughed, running her nails down the line of his jaw, then grinned when Andy failed to dip his chin down fast enough to trap her hand before she pulled it back. "It's a low-sodium mix," she explained. "Spicy, but not salty."
Andy's eyebrow quirked skeptically. "Is it any good?"
Just then, the microwave pinged it was finished, and Sharon moved off the couch. "We're about to find out," she said, going to retrieve their popcorn.
"Can't wait," Andy said in a tone that held zero optimism, but Sharon didn't hear him.
When she finally returned, she dropped the bowl of popcorn into his lap as she walked around the couch to find her seat again. When Andy looked at her, his eyebrows went up at the mischievous glint in her eyes. "Oh," he grimaced, looking at the bowl in disgust, "that bad?"
A short burst of giggles bubbled out of her. "No," she grabbed a few popcorns and happily chewed on them. "They're not bad at all actually."
Andy continued to appraise the popcorn with distrust, but asked, "Then what's," he waved a finger at her face, "all that about?"
She swallowed, then bit the inside of her cheek to contain a smile. "I may have another snack for you," she informed him with a playful bob of her eyebrow.
Andy's head snapped up to look at her, his hand pausing halfway on its path to test the popcorn. "Is that so?" he asked suggestively, leaning toward her, his eyes on her lips.
She tilted her head up and quickly acquiesced to his wordless request for a kiss, then laughing a little, said, "Not that kind of snack."
"Oh, God," Andy mumbled and flopped the side of his head against the backrest. "You're stuffing me with carrots and celery after all, aren't you?"
She giggled. "Actually…" She pulled her hand out from behind her back Andy didn't even notice she had been purposefully hiding from him. "Cheat day," she added, wiggling a bag of potato chips in front of him.
"No way," he let out lowly, lifting his head and his eyes going wide.
"Way," Sharon countered, then put two fingers underneath his chin, pushing up his dropped jaw.
"I love you," Andy said on a happy sigh, ducking his head to kiss the two fingers on his chin.
"Ah-ah," Sharon warned, tapping his lips with the digits he just kissed.
"Another catch?" Andy asked, suddenly resigned, stuffing his mouth with a handful of popcorn, for a moment forgetting he didn't even know if it was any good. "Oh," the taste distracted him, "this is nice," he said over his mouthful.
"Told ya," Sharon said proudly.
He ignored her gloating. "So," Andy eyed the bag of chips she had produced, "what's it gonna cost me?"
Sharon looked at the TV, momentarily chewing on her bottom lip. "I was thinking we make this a little more interesting."
Andy shifted on the spot, putting just a bit more distance between them to look at her with curiosity. "Do I like where this is going?"
"If you want this," she waved the bag, the rustling and rattling sounds music to Andy's ears, "then most definitely."
His wheels turning, Andy looked at the TV where the game was just about to start. "Oh," he said when he finally figured it out, "you're thinking bets."
She smiled instantly. "I am."
"My team wins, I get that," he eyed the bag hungrily, "your team wins, you eat it?"
Her smile widened. "Precisely."
Andy turned toward the TV and relaxed fully into the couch, propping his socked feet up on the table and grabbing another handful of popcorn. "You're on."
Caught between shaking her head and laughing at his childish excitement, Sharon put the prize down on the coffee table, then leaned back into Andy's side. "Hold your horses, my dear," she mumbled, snaking her hands around his arm, "those are mine."
"Nope," Andy disagreed confidently. "I told you, I'm on a roll today."
She laughed, grabbing some popcorn out of the bowl in his lap. "Not for long." She dropped just a single corn into her mouth, then repeated, "Not for long."
Halfway into the game, Andy was a huffing, puffing and disappointed mess, most likely a little exaggerated for Sharon's benefit, but she still had an incredibly hard time not to laugh at him. When he suddenly grabbed the remote and turned off the TV in frustration, her self-restraint vanished and she burst out into snorts, failing miserably at hiding them in his arm. "I was watching that," she managed in between her laughs.
He extracted his arm from out of her hold and shuffled nearly all the way to the other side of the couch. He glared at her as he put the bowl of popcorn down on the table, then took the bag of chips that lay next to it. "Take it," he practically threw it into her lap, "you win."
She caught the bag, a tad clumsily. "Teams have recovered from worse, Andy," she offered optimistically, and she might have even been convincing, had her voice not trembled with suppressed laughter.
He continued to glare at her, his tone as begrudging and pessimistic as it possibly could be. "The hand of God can't save that mess of a team." He struck a hand out in the direction of the now black screen as if she hadn't seen exactly how dreadful they were.
Sharon snorted, not disagreeing. "Well," she finally said, preparing to open the bag, "if you're sure…" She eyed the TV, then Andy. "I mean, the game's not over yet."
"I'm sure," he grumbled, slumping back into the couch, now avoiding to look at her. "Knock yourself out," he added, crossing his arms.
Her lips pressing into a tight line in order to stop herself from further laughing at him, Sharon opened the bag. When she reached inside and took a chip out, she watched him intently as she slowly put it in her mouth, but he steadfastly refused to so much as glance her way. Not being one to give up so easily, she bit into it, making it crunch loudly, but when not even that chipped away at his resolve, she let out a low moan and nearly snorted again, when that instantly, and most likely reflexively, had his head turn toward her.
"Delicious," she told him, her tone, in Andy's opinion, far too seductive to be talking about a strip of baked potato.
"There's no need to rub it in, you know," he muttered, his lip curling in displeasure.
Having his attention now, she openly grinned at him, and took another chip out of the bag. She placed it into her mouth just as slowly, then repeated both the crunching sound and her low moan. The way he frowned, even as his eyes flashed with lustful hunger, had her wonder what seemed more alluring to him, the chips or her. Something told her it was the chips and the thought only caused her to laugh a little more.
As if seeking at least some comfort, Andy briefly leaned forward to stick his hand into the popcorn bowl. Chewing furiously around his mouthful, he pushed himself back into the couch, and grumbled, "Now you're just being plain cruel."
"I might," her voice shook with amusement, but she paused deliberately until he looked at her just in time to see her slowly lick the salt off her fingers, and she suppressed a grin when his mouth dropped open and he stared stupidly at her, "be persuaded to share."
He closed his mouth, but only to bite into his bottom lip. "Yeah?" he managed, having to clear his throat when the word came out hoarsely.
She offered an affirmative hum, and the sound drew his eyes up to hers, pulling him out of his temporary stupor. "Persuaded," he was a little wary now, "how?"
His suspiciousness made her chuckle because she had no intention of living up to his idea of torture. "Oh," she reached out the hand holding the bag of chips, wiggling it a little, "just get back here, and help yourself."
He didn't need telling twice, but to her complete and gasp-eliciting surprise, when he reached her, he didn't go for the potato chips, but for her lips, catching them in a hungry kiss. Before she had a chance to respond, he pulled back, then, sounding a little surprised himself, said, "You taste like potato chips."
She barely managed to laugh, when his lips landed on hers again. She responded this time, her hand finding the back of his head to keep him precisely where he was. When his tongue darting out and swiping over her bottom lip drew a strangled groan from him, she smiled, breaking the kiss and resting her forehead against his. "Why do I get the feeling this is about the chips and not us?"
Andy pecked her lips one more time, then pulled away a little to look her in the eye. "Oh, it's definitely about the chips," he finally stole a chip from the bag she was still somehow clutching and plopped it into his mouth, pausing to moan in pleasure as he munched on it, "but also," he leaned in to kiss her once more even though he was still chewing, "very much about you."
Sharon was certain he meant his words, and it drew an affectionate little smile out of her, but when he immediately after stole another couple of chips out of her bag and continued snacking on them happily, she snorted. "Maybe I should leave you two alone." She even started pushing at him to further her point.
"Uh-uh," Andy disagreed, shaking his head. He shifted a little so they were side to side, then dug a chip out of the bag and offered it to her. "I'm in a sharing mood," he added seriously.
"You," the word was laced with incredulity and one of her eyebrows shot up, "are in a sharing mood?" She bit off the chip he held out anyway.
"Mhm," he hummed confidently, then rubbed his fingers together before digging into the bag yet again.
That made her laugh again. She let Andy take over the bag, then helped herself to some chips and said, "I've married a child."
Sharon had to trap her bottom lip between her teeth to prevent herself from laughing when his entire demeanor only corroborated her words; the bland expression on his face, the almost protective way he was clutching the bag in his lap, and last but not least, Andy's chip-loaded hand hanging in the air, midway to his mouth. "You like the child in me," he told her nonchalantly, tilting his head back to drop the pile into his mouth.
He had her there, and because it was simply impossible to deny it, her mouth immediately stretched into a besotted smile. The discovery that he could be silly to the point of ridiculousness had been something she stumbled upon long before a romantic relationship crossed either one of their minds. It endeared him to her, as she would later realize, not just because this side so clashed with the tough, quick to anger Lieutenant, but because like her, there weren't that many people he relaxed around enough to reveal it. Being one of those few chosen ones warmed her heart back when they were just friends, and the feeling only intensified over the years, especially as he slowly, without her even truly noticing, uncovered her own dorky side.
The absence of loud crunching noises slowly drew Sharon out of her musings, and as she returned to reality, she found Andy watching her with interest.
He wiggled some chips in front of her. "Chip for your thoughts?"
She giggled. Yes, she absolutely adored the child in him, and she found no reason not to tell him as much. She stilled his hand, and leaned in to wrap her lips around the proffered chips, then once she chewed and swallowed, said, "I adore the child in you."
His mouth opened and then a corner of it took an upward turn as it formed a lopsided, goofy, and coincidentally, childlike smile. His hand went for her cheek, then slipped into her hair before she could fully pull back. When he pressed his lips to hers this time, chips were most definitely not on his mind.
He released her lips only to trail a path of kisses along the line of her jaw, causing her to grip his shoulders for support. "We have the condo," he mumbled when he reached her ear, "to ourselves," he caught her earlobe gently between his teeth, then released it as he pulled back to grin at her obscenely, "don't we?"
On a sigh, she lifted her head and opened her eyes, her hold on his shoulders slackening. "Mhm," she hummed in a way that had Andy capture her lips one more time.
His attentions were interrupted on a grunt when he squeezed the bag he miraculously still had ahold of a tad too tightly, and in turn, quite loudly, crushed a few of his precious chips. He frowned at it, making Sharon laugh, who quickly helped by extricating it out of his hand and flopping it down on the table. For a second, a look of regret, or was it longing, flashed in Andy's eyes, as if perhaps he wasn't quite ready to part with his beloved snack just yet, but it was quickly forgotten when Sharon huffed impatiently and planted a hand at the back of his neck to press her lips to his again.
He slipped his hands underneath her shirt, then on an insistent squeeze, nudged her into his lap, never once letting go of the kiss. When she straddled him, however, it was Sharon who broke it, moving the hair out of her face with an elegant shake of her head. She dropped her forehead to his and whispered, "You should lose bets like these more often."
"You should feed me potato chips more often," he countered, making his point by bucking his hips into her.
She giggled in that rare, carefree, high-pitched tone of hers, then kissed him again. He grinned when they let up for air and their combined breathing fogged up her glasses. When she put a hand against his chest, getting some distance between them, and unceremoniously tore them off her face, he chuckled.
She folded her glasses, but did not let go of them as she tangled her hands behind his neck. She squinted, for show really, and complained. "You're blurry."
He pulled his hands out from underneath her shirt and clasped her face, his thumbs running over her cheekbones until she stopped squinting. "You're beautiful."
She instantly smiled.
"Especially your eyes," he added, letting go of her cheeks to brush his thumbs affectionately across the crinkles that appeared in their corners.
"Charmer," she muttered, but dipped her head to kiss him quickly again anyway.
Grinning, he dropped his hands and focused on them as he slipped them beneath her shirt again. When he thrummed his fingers lightly against her sides and her posture stiffened, he smirked. "Just speaking my truth."
When his fingers traced the edge of her bra, Sharon clasped his wrists and straightened. He looked up to find her matching his smirk with a coy smile of her own. "Let's save some truths for the bedroom." She ground against his lap just in case he was missing her point.
On a low groan, he dropped his forehead to her shoulder. When she laughed, he recovered and caught her off guard by dipping his hands to her lower back and sliding her closer across his lap. The sudden movement had her throw her head back long enough for Andy's lips to latch onto the revealed skin of her neck. Careful not to leave a mark, he sucked on a spot he knew to be particularly sensitive and distracting, then mumbled, "Let's."
Before Sharon could do so much as moan in pleasure, his hands dipped even lower, to the backs of her thighs, and in one swift motion he was on his feet with her.
Alarmed, she instinctively hooked her legs around him and clutched desperately at his neck, dropping her glasses to the couch. "Andy, put me down!"
He adjusted his hold on her, then kissed her cheek. "Nope."
She relaxed, but only in exasperation. "You're not twenty anymore, you know?"
"I know," he agreed a bit regretfully, making her smile. "Just," he jostled her a little until she was even more securely in his arms, "trust me."
"I trust you," Sharon said indignantly, but did rest her chin against his shoulder, missing the immediate smile the easy constatation drew on Andy's face, "it's your old bones I'm wary of."
"Ouch," he said, then squeezing her thighs in retaliation, added, "I'll show you old in a minute." When she chuckled, instead of heading to the bedroom to make good on his promise, he remembered the discarded bag of chips and with the intention of folding it close so its contents didn't dry out, he bent down a little. In the process, he dipped Sharon and, holding onto him more tightly, she let out a startled "Oh, my God!"
Straightening again and making sure she was safely in his arms, on steady feet Andy finally started walking toward their bedroom. "Started without me?" he teased.
Sharon snorted into his neck.
It wasn't until they were safely ensconced behind the closed door of their bedroom that Andy let her back down to her feet, his arms only loosely looped around her.
She tried to glare away his cocky smirk, but instead, a smile crept upon her face on its own volition and she found purchase on his hips, pulling him closer to her. She still had her wits about her though. "I'm waiting," she challenged, "old bo-"
He cut her off with a bruising kiss.
The following morning, Andy woke first. At the feel of an arm resting heavily on his chest, he instantly grinned and looked to his side. Sharon lay sprawled on her stomach, facing away from him. He suppressed a chuckle when he realized she was taking up a good two thirds of their bed, then careful not to wake her, slowly moved her arm. She didn't stir awake, but did tuck her arm under her pillow in response. Andy itched to run a hand down the exposed skin of her upper back, but—he remembered this on a smug smirk—he'd proven what old bones could still do the previous night, and decided she'd appreciate the extra sleep, even if he was certain she wouldn't mind the attentions he'd have in store for her if he did wake her up.
Seeing though that he would not be falling back asleep, but being too lazy to actually get up and start his day, he reached for his phone.
After he turned off the alarm clock, he opened his news app. Same old recycled news from the day, if not week, before, of course, filled his screen, and he was just about to find something else to do, when a headline in the sports section caught his eye. 'Last Night's Spectacular Recovery...' part of the title read, underneath a photo of the banners of the teams that had clashed the previous evening. He clicked the 'read more' link, then instantly sat up as he scanned the article. "They what?!" he exclaimed, then immediately winced at his loud voice, his eyes darting to Sharon's sleeping form.
She woke, of course, a sleepy, disgruntled moan coming out of her. She turned her head his way, then frowned. "What's with the yelling?"
Andy was no longer sorry for waking her up. "They won!" He pointed a finger at his phone screen, then at himself. "I won the bet!"
Sharon closed her eyes, her brow momentarily creasing further, needing a second to remember what bet he was talking about. When she did, her eyes flew open. "You did?"
"Yes!" Andy exclaimed yet again, all but shoving his phone in her face when she pushed herself up on her elbows. "Ugh," he groaned when she took his phone to read through the article, "I could have had those chips all to myself," he mumbled disappointedly.
Sharon flung the phone back in his lap. "You wouldn't have shared?" she asked, her voice thinning, offended.
Andy looked at her blandly, his response matter-of-fact. "You and I both know who the bigger person in this relationship is."
Sharon rolled her eyes. "You're so not getting the rest of them."
"The hell I'm not," Andy disagreed. "I won 'em fair and square."
With that, he flung the covers off himself, draping them over Sharon in the process, and practically jumped out of bed.
With a jerked movement, Sharon freed herself of the offending item just in time to see Andy swinging his bathrobe over him and heading for the door. She was on her feet equally as quickly, grabbing and wrapping her own robe around herself as she hurried after him.
She nearly bumped into his back, however, when she reached the living room.
"They're gone," Andy whispered disbelievingly, standing rooted to the spot and staring at the coffee table.
"What's gone?" Rusty appeared out of the kitchen, a cup of coffee in his hand. His eyes landing on his mother, he added on a smile, "Good morning, by the way."
Sharon tied the sash of her robe a bit more securely, then joined Andy at his side. "Good morning," she greeted, matching his smile, then chanced a glance at Andy, a dumbstruck look on his face. When it didn't seem like he would be responding to Rusty's question any time soon, she did so in his stead. "There was a bag of potato chips," she waved a hand at the coffee table, "there."
"Oh," Rusty followed her wave, then scratched the back of his head awkwardly, "I haven't had potato chips in like forever, so," he grimaced, realizing he perhaps shouldn't have done what he was about to admit to doing, "I may have polished it off when I came home last night."
That jump-started Andy's ability to speak. "You what?" he practically screeched.
At the same time, Sharon burst out laughing.
Andy continued incredulously. "But you ignored the half-full bowl of popcorn?" He waved a hand at the bowl that in fact still stood on the table, more than a sizable portion of popcorn in it.
Rusty winced. "I like them crunchy, and these already went stale."
"He likes them cru-" Andy couldn't even finish repeating Rusty's sentence, but looked wildly around the room, unbelieving. "Are you hearing this?" he suddenly asked Sharon.
She hid her mouth behind both of her palms, unable to contain her laughter.
Rusty frowned at this point, absolutely baffled by both their reactions. "What's the big deal?"
As Andy instantly started on a mini rant, describing exactly what the big deal was, Rusty just stared at him. For a while now, a big topic in the household was Sharon and Andy's medically conditioned diets. Sharon found it less difficult to make the transition. For as long as Rusty had known her, she was always watching what she ate, and regularly made sure he, too, ate more than just junk food or take out. Andy, however, who had actually had more time to get used to it, seeing as he was on doctor's order ever since his blood clot ordeal, grumbled about all his restrictions often enough that Rusty, and he suspected his mom, too, simply learned to tune him out, whenever he got particularly prickly about it. Like now.
The healthier diet was never forced on Rusty though. He still indulged in plenty of burgers and fries, but it had kind of become the norm for there not to be all that many unhealthy snacks lying around the house. Still, sometimes he'd go out and stock up on some, sometimes his mom would think of him and get him something, even Andy remembered to get something for him if he went on a grocery run. So when he came home last night, he didn't think twice about enjoying the bag he found on the coffee table. Their reactions now though, confused the hell out of him. Hoping to make up for it, and really to just put an end to this increasingly strange conversation, he interrupted Andy and said, "Look, I'll get you a new one."
Two simultaneous, equally as baffling, responses came at that.
"You sure will," Andy agreed threateningly.
"No need," Sharon said dismissively.
Then the duo turned to glare at each other.
Rusty gave the heavens an exasperated look, part of him truly seeking out divine help. "Not this again," he mumbled, ignoring them and going over to the couch.
"Cheat day was yesterday," Sharon said, and this drew Rusty's attention again and he turned his head to look at them. Things were beginning to make a little more sense.
"Yesterday?" Andy threw his arms out. "What yesterday? You mean those five minutes before—" He suddenly snapped his mouth shut, throwing Rusty a quick look as he obviously remembered they weren't alone.
Sharon smirked, raising an eyebrow and taking half a step back as she folded her arms in nothing if not challenge.
Rusty took a sip of his coffee, and actually sent out a quiet prayer for Andy not to take her up on it. He could already deduce much more than he wanted to, and he'd appreciate being spared any more details. Unfortunately, as Andy still considered his response, Rusty's eyes fell on the glasses Sharon had dropped on the couch the previous evening. Having eaten the chips in his room when he came home, he hadn't noticed them before. Now, however, they only further helped his deductive skills and he regretted not drinking his coffee in his room as well. He picked them up, then interrupted them just as Andy opened his mouth to finally say something. "Really?" he drawled, dangling the glasses between two fingers as if they were too sullied for full skin-on-plastic contact.
Andy rolled his eyes and snatched the glasses out of his hold, handing them unceremoniously over to Sharon. "Oh, get your mind out of the gutter," he muttered. "Nothing happened." He shot Sharon, who put her glasses on, an absolutely filthy look, and added, still in a very much grumbling tone, but quietly, for her ears only, "Not here anyway."
Rusty didn't hear what he said, but did not miss his look, and what was more, the way his mother actually squirmed, blushed and laughed all at once. He dropped his head over the backrest of the couch, squeezed his eyes shut and groaned. "Guys!"
Andy must have decided that mental image was enough punishment for his faux pas, for Rusty felt him walking past his head in the direction of the kitchen, a low chuckle emanating from him. Then a hand he knew belonged to Sharon disturbed his hair. When he opened his eyes to look at her upside down, she was smiling apologetically at him. "Sorry," she rolled her eyes at Andy's grouchy mood, "he was really excited about those potato chips."
Completely misinterpreting her words, Rusty's eyes went wide and he lifted his head, a horrified "Mom!" on his lips.
She glared at the back of his head, unimpressed. Having reached her limit for tolerating his exaggerated disgust of them, she pointed a finger threateningly at Rusty's head. "You know what," she then started following Andy into the kitchen, "just for that, you now owe us two bags." She ignored Andy's ensuing victorious laugh, then knowing Rusty would whirl around to stare at her, turned to meet his look, daring him to disobey.
Rusty instantly retreated, muttering a quick, obedient, "Yes, Mom." He flopped his head back down on the couch, and grumbled loud enough to make Sharon laugh, "I'm never eating potato chips again."

Tinsel: All Aglow (A Light Fingers Christmas Special 2/2)
Read Chapter 1 here: First Christmas A/N: We go from happy Christmas fluff to angsty sort of plot relevant stuff. But still kind of soft? Word Count: 2314 Content Warnings: discussion of childhood poverty, social workers, implied/referenced child abuse and neglect (past), references to drugs Cross-posted to AO3: here
“Hey, Y/N,” Klaus asked after the others had left, having stuck around to help with clean up the party and have the chance to get to know you better. “You look really familiar. Have we met before?”
“What?” you asked, frowning in confusion, at the same time Diego did with a seemingly affronted tone, one you knew was a cover for his insecurity at being reminded of your colorful acquaintances.
“Yeah. Yeah, I definitely do. I’d recognize that adorable face anywhere. It’s the eyes I think…I just can’t figure out where from…”
You grimaced. You could think of a lot of places a junkie might know you from: pawn shops, back alleys, sketchy clubs, your fence’s house, to name just a few. Luckily Eudora was long gone, so reference to your illegal activities wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if it came up, but honestly you didn’t want to be reminded of them tonight of all nights, not after the evening had gone so well up until now.
“The mausoleum!” he suddenly shouted with a snap of his fingers.
“What?” Diego asked with real confusion now.
Klaus turned excitedly to Diego. “Remember, I swore you and Ben to secrecy because Dad would have been so pissed? The girl, the one that glowed and kept me company when Dad locked me up, and helped hold the ghosts at bay?”
“I always thought you were making that up. Or that it was a friendly ghost that made the others back off somehow. I never…You’re telling me it was Y/N?”
He turned back to you for confirmation. You studied Klaus, the pinch of your eyebrows as you concentrated creating that cute little furrow that was of Diego’s favorite quirks of yours.
“Oh!” you cried suddenly, remembering.
You had snuck into one of the creepy old buildings in the graveyard near your family’s home to hide from the woman discussing “removal.” You were just making yourself comfortable in one of the cubbies, meant for coffins and just tall enough to sit in, when the doors were thrown wide and a boy about your age had stumbled in.
“Three hours,” a voice which later haunted your nightmares had barked. “Maybe by then you will have learned that death is to be controlled, not feared.”
The boy was crying. You felt terrible. So you made yourself glow, though it was hard without much to draw from, and poked your head out of your hiding spot. He screamed and started crying more. It took quite a bit to calm him down and explain that you weren’t a ghost or a monster, and then he’d explained that he could see ghosts but they terrified him and his father was unhappy with him because of it.
“Your dad is a bully, and when he comes back, I’ll kick him,” you offered your new friend.
While he hadn’t accepted that offer, he had the one to come back again in case he was ever thrown in there again, and to shed a little light while he was there (even though it made you feel sleepy and sick to keep it up for so long. It wasn’t like your new friend needed to know that, and he needed your power more than enough to make it worthwhile).
It was no surprise, really, that you hadn’t recognized Klaus. He looked extremely different from his childhood self. It wasn’t a bad look by any means, but it certainly wasn’t the round-cheeked, freckle-faced and crying boy you had known. And it had been so long ago, a friendship that had ended when you were about seven, after one incident where you'd nearly been caught and he had been more scared of what his father might do to you than he was of the dark and the ghosts. He had insisted that he never wanted to see you again, and not knowing yet how to fight for the things that mattered, you had let him push you away.
“Huh,” you finally said, acknowledging the accusation. “Small world.”
“You knew Klaus? Why didn’t you say anything?” Diego asked, unable to keep the hurt from his voice.
“To be honest, I didn’t realize...I sort of forgot,” you said, hoping to brush the whole thing aside. “I try not to think about...roughly ages four to nine. It wasn’t a good time to be me.”
Diego raised an eyebrow and you knew he wouldn’t let it go, so you sighed.
“Look. It was after Dad died. Mom wasn’t doing well emotionally, and money was tight. Apparently when your kids constantly show up to school with no breakfast in them and no lunch, and their jeans are held together with strips of duct tape because a roll of that is cheaper than trying to get new clothes, it raises questions about parental fitness. There were a lot of social workers in and out of my life, and I spent a lot of time running away. Can we not talk about this on Christmas?” you asked quickly, your voice tight, before turning to Diego’s brother. “Where are you staying tonight Klaus? Our couch is available if you don’t already have a place.”
“I’d love to crash at yours, if my brother doesn’t mind,” Klaus said, offering you a hesitant smile.
“He doesn’t,” you replied determinedly, and both brothers glanced at each other over your head, a silent conversation about your sudden terseness and the ways they might be able to help.
~
Later that night, the three of you sat around the apartment, earlier tension forgotten. Your back rested against Diego's shins from your seat on the floor, head falling on his knees as you threw it back in laughter from some story Klaus was telling about when they were children and he and Diego had started some sort of prank war with Ben (secretly supported by Five or Vanya or maybe both, Diego had said he suspected). It made you happy to hear about the good times, that they had still found ways to be children despite their harsh upbringing.
“The way he stuck to the honey in his mattress was so worth having mine taken away for a month,” Klaus concluded, laughing and oblivious to the horror widening your eyes.
Diego’s fingers combed unconsciously through your hair, massaging your scalp. You started to feel calmer with each pass, matching your breathing to his movements. The physical contact grounded you, reminding you that, despite everything, you had both made it through and made it here.
“It couldn’t have all been like that though...right?” you asked hesitantly. “There must have been just average days where you got to be normal kids?”
“We were allowed to have fun on Saturdays,” Diego was quick to assure you.
“For a whole half hour!” Klaus chimed in, still laughing, false cheerfulness radiating a sharp sting of bitterness. “And on special occasions, Mom made chocolate chip pancakes.” He paused, seeming to listen to something. “Yeah. I think Ben’s funeral was the last time we had any.”
“Oh.”
You sighed, leaning as far into Diego as possible, as if he could give you strength, or you could give him back the peace he had been robbed of pretty much from birth.
“I used to envy you, growing up,” you admitted. “I thought if I had been adopted things would have been better. But really I just wouldn’t have known how bad they were. There really wasn’t a not shitty end of the deal, was there?”
Silence fell over the three of you, uncomfortable and awkward.
“It’s okay though,” Klaus said eventually, shifting nervously and picking at his nails. “We survived it, figured out to be functioning - semi-functioning - adults. And never have to go back.”
“Right,” Diego said and you felt his body shift as he nodded at his brother. “It’s just a thing in our pasts. Everyone’s got...stuff.”
“Yeah,” you mumbled. “I guess.”
“Hey is there any of that roast left? I’m starving,” Klaus said, standing to climb over the back of the couch and wander toward the kitchen.
You stared after him, unsure if he was serious or just trying to lighten the mood. When you shifted your gaze to Diego questioningly, he just shrugged.
“It should be in the container with the blue lid,” he told Klaus, waving vaguely at the fridge.
~
The three of you talked (one might even have dared to call it bonded) long into the night. It was past midnight when Diego finally bowed out, practically asleep on the couch already before he stumbled off to bed. You took his spot, sitting cross-legged and facing Klaus at the other end of the couch, and the pair of you continued to talk for at least another hour.
“Y/N, you should sleep,” Klaus eventually suggested. “You look exhausted, and it’s no surprise, with everything you did today, and putting up with my brother all the time to boot.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right,” you sighed. “I’ll go grab you some stuff to sleep and be right back.”
Quietly you slipped past the screen into the darkened bedroom area and frowned, scolding yourself internally for not doing this before Diego was in bed. He was a light sleeper and got so little of it on a regular basis, and though you could adjust the light to not wake him, it was an imperfect solution. Trying not to disturb your sleeping husband (the word still felt weird and wonderful to wrap your head around and you couldn’t help but smile), you lit your hand with a faint glow and dug through the bins beneath your bed to find your spare bedding.
“You really don't have to worry about it, Y/N,” Klaus whispered, having followed you to the doorway, trying to wave off your efforts. “The couch alone is better than I've had lately. I can just use my coat as a blanket.”
“Absolutely not,” you hissed back determinedly. “You are a guest in my home. I want you to be comfortable, not just 'good enough.'”
He opened his mouth to protest and you held up a finger warningly.
“Klaus, be smarter than Diego, and know that you can’t argue with me and win. Especially not over something as simple as me finding the spare bedding.”
His mouth shut with a dramatic popping sound that made you tense as Diego stirred in the bed.
“Go wait in the living room before you wake him up,” you asked, “please? He’s tired enough as it is most days.”
You felt more than saw Klaus’s eyes as he studied you for a moment before nodding and, shockingly, doing as he was told. A few minutes later, you emerged once more, handing Klaus a pile of bedding.
“Blanket, light sheet, pillow,” you said, patting the pile. “I can grab another blanket if you need, if this won’t be warm enough. I have like a hundred of them.”
“No, this will be fine,” he said sincerely. “I sleep warm anyway. I think it’s the nightmares. Or the drugs.”
“Riiight. Are you sure you’re good? You don’t need anything else? Glass of water? More food? Cup of tea?”
He laughed, reaching out to rest his hands on your shoulders. “Relax, Y/N. I appreciate it, but I’m fine. If I need a drink, I’ll raid the kitchen later. I have everything I need. More than I deserve.”
“That’s not--” he put a finger to your lips dramatically, stopping you short as you squinted in confusion at him, going cross-eyed to try and look at the offending digit.
“Don’t try to argue it. It’s a lifetime of a feeling. But I appreciate you trying. And everything you’ve done, then and now.”
You cocked your head softly. “You know, that offer to kick your father remains on the table.”
He grinned.
“But maybe we should table that discussion for tomorrow, it’s getting late. I’ll see you in the morning?”
“Actually, I’ll be gone then,” Klaus said in a tone clearly meant to be reassuring. “Before you wake up, if my brother’s smart enough to take a day off or learn that there’s no reason in general to get up with the crack of dawn. Especially with a beautiful woman in his bed.” He shot you an exaggerated wink.
You rolled your eyes fondly. “You don’t have to, Klaus. You can stay for a while. Days, weeks, whatever.”
“You’re sweet. But you don’t really want me around.”
“Of course I do,” you insisted, frowning at how casually he said such a thing. “We do. You’re family.”
“I don’t think anyone with the last name of Hargreeves really knows what that means.”
“Actually, I took your brother’s name when we got married so…” you shrugged.
Klaus laughed and you smiled.
“I’m serious though,” you pushed. “Diego will never admit it because he’s stubborn and dumb, but he cares about you, and worries. And I think he misses you.”
Suddenly, Klaus’s long arms were wrapped around you, hugging you fiercely. There were tears in his voice when he next spoke.
“Thank you, Y/N. That means...a lot. And hey, take care of him, will you? He’s gonna get himself killed otherwise.”
“Of course I will, Klaus,” you said, hugging him back. “I do kinda love him.”
The pair of you pulled away to share a smile, and somewhere deep inside, you felt the stirrings of your ancient friendship awakening from hibernation. After a moment, you shook yourself.
“Anyway, I’ll let you get some sleep. And if you happen to stick around, I’ll make pancakes in the morning. See if I can’t scrounge up some chocolate chips?”
“You drive a hard bargain, Y/N. I’ll think about it.”
You chuckled, before flicking off most (leaving the one above the sink to help ease his fear of the dark) of the lights. “Goodnight, Klaus.”

Omggggg you met your husband in art gallery? 😭😍 That's so romantic? And like? Super cute and sweet? Especially when you're an artist? I need to know mooore (if you're comfortable with that of course❤️)
It’s a very ridiculous story, so yes, let’s do it.
Here’s how I met my husband:
As I mentioned, this was an art gallery website that was catered to yaoi art. Specifically, all of the art (and I think maybe there was writing, too? I can’t recall) had to feature men prominently. This meant that, yeah sure, sometimes you had content that was G-rated, but the site was mostly smut or smut-adjacent 80% of the time. Because of that, you needed to be 18+ to have an account—and an account was required to even view the site.
Guess what? I was not 18+ 🤦‍♂️ But this didn’t stop me. (I am not condoning this.)
My gallery was a mix of smutty and not smutty, mostly the latter. I was only just turning 16 (yes, I know, stop judging me) and didn’t have a whole lot of privacy. (My mom is infamous for entering rooms without knocking, even when you’re pooping, and she’d rifle through a lot of my stuff. I didn’t want her finding a whole boatload of porny anime boys, so I didn’t draw that content nearly as much as I drew SFW stuff.) (However, despite these efforts, she did indeed find my stash of smut drawings one day, and that was a hell of a conversation.)
Anyway, all of that to say: my gallery was fairly tame, especially given the usual fare on that site. There was this one drawing of Eiri from Gravitation (if anyone even remembers that show). He’s a writer, and a trainwreck, so I drew him half-asleep, trying to write with his cigarette, with his pen hanging from his lips—it was cute! I really liked the drawing. He was in his PJs, and there was bright sunlight coming in through the blinds on his window. He looked haggard as fuck. I was very proud.
One day, I get a comment on that drawing. I don’t remember it word-for-word. I don’t even remember what else was said, all I remember is that the commenter gave me constructive criticism on the hands. And outwardly I was like “cool thanks 😎” while internally I was like “BITCH DID I ASK?”
So I’m fuming. Because I’m 16 and failing out of my AP art class because my portfolio is coming out like shit. And what was the concentration of my portfolio? HANDS. This comment was like a personal attack on my very soul. (My AP art saga is a whole story for another time.)
I am livid. I am wounded. I have never been so affronted by a stranger on the internet in my life. This man is now my sworn enemy.
But... I don’t have time for a sworn enemy. Especially not for some chucklefuck stranger on the internet. I decide to wipe him from my mind—it was a big website, and most people were there for smut—odds were good we would never cross paths again.
A few weeks later, I get this friendly comment on the main page of my account. Not on any specific drawing, just in this sort of general comment thread every account had. The commenter and I start chatting about our mutual love of Gravitation. Then we decide to move the convo to AIM (really showing my age here). And then we’re basically chatting all the time. Staying up until 3 AM, drawing things for each other, RPing, the whole nerdy thing. His name is Simon (yes, really), he’s in Montreal, I’m in NY—same timezone, not too far away... Everything’s great!
Except he has a girlfriend. But that’s fine! We’re friends! Everything’s fine!
A few months in, he sends me a cute selfie, and I think, “I’m gonna kiss that mouth one day”. And that was that, my fate was sealed.
I redoubled my efforts. His relationship was on the rocks already—we’d had several conversations about it. I was comfortable being the tipping point for him to finally break up with her. (I know, I know, let me live.)
Eventually, they did break up because he realized how difficult things were with her and how easy things were with me. *hair flip*
We officialized our long-distance dating status.
A few weeks later, I’m replying to a new comment on that drawing of Eiri I mentioned earlier... and I see that old comment from the dude who dared critique the hands... and I look at the user name...
Oh my god, it’s my boyfriend!!!! We narrowly brushed “enemies to lovers” territory!!!!!!! How could I have been so foolish as to not really bask in it?!! Where was my slowburn??????!!!!!!!
Apparently, Simon had no idea that I didn’t realize I was talking to the same person the whole time. We had a very good laugh about it.
And... then I got banned from the art gallery website. Simon asks me why, and I say, “well, they found out I’m not 18″, and he says “...........what”
Oops!!!!!
Now, thankfully, I was already 17 by this point, and he is even more ace than I am, so there was nothing sexual going on between us anyway. But yeah, wow, big oops on my part.
So we’re 400+ miles apart, unknowing enemies-to-lovers, I’m a deliberate home-wrecker, and he’s an accidental cradle-robber. Really checking all the boxes for “what the fuck are you two doing?!”
But thankfully, it all worked out. We’ve been married now for 8 and a half years, 🖤 He’s my world.

Eugene Appreciation Week Day Two: Found family
Summary: Horace always yearned for a life he knew he couldn't have. All he has is a dead kingdom, a bleak future and his imagination.
Read it on ao3
@fishskiin
Everyday, Horace woke up early. At some point, he had wished to sleep more so his days would go faster, but he had soon realised that he hated the lethargy even more than the boredom, so he stopped doing it. Since then, Horace woke up early, the grey and gloomy sky he could barely see from his window his only companion.
Then, he got ready to face a new day. He took a long and unneeded time to style his hair and check the state of his skin, before making sure that his clothes were presentable - just in case someone decided to visit for the first time since his birth. Unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibilities, so Horace always made sure to look his best.
Once he got out of the bathroom, he checked each and every room of the castle, making sure that it was tidy and spiderweb-less - which, considering the numerous nook and crannies of the place, was a two-hours occupation at least. By that point, it was 9:30am, so Horace made his way to the main hall, and went to talk to his father.
Well, the portrait of his father.
Horace had always found this portrait somewhat terrifying. Edmund held a sword in his right hand, and a bear head in the other, as if he just killed it and was showcasing his power. Horace didn't like this idea, though, didn't like to think that his father would kill an innocent animal for nothing other than symbolism, so he would rather think that it was, in fact, a costume that he liked to put on when he protected the kingdom. The worst thing about this portrait was the eyes - they were dark and tortured, piercing through Horace's very soul if he ever dared tell a lie. So he never did. Each morning, at 9:35, Horace stood in front of his father's painting, looking up to it as he made what he thought to be a pretty good report about the state of things. It didn't change much from one day to another, so some informations could be repeated, but Horace hoped the man appreciated it.
After that, it was time for his favourite part of the day: going to see his mom. Well, her portrait too, but it was different, because she was different. Her smile was warm and honest, her eyes loving, with crinkles on their corners as if she had spent her whole life laughing. Horace had never lied down under the sun, because the sun never made its way to the Dark Kingdom, but he always thought that the feeling he had talking to her was probably close to that. He didn't know her name - she wasn't mentioned in the history books the way Edmund was, because these books didn't go further than his father's teenage years - but that didn't matter, because to him, she was "mom".
He could share everything with her. His fears, his hopes, the cool new thing that happened, the sadness, the loneliness, the- the- the dreams, sometimes. She could see when he hid something even to himself, and she would smile knowingly at him until he fessed up to it so, when he was sure they were alone, he once admitted that he'd like to leave, one day. Not that he didn't like this, didn't like his duty and his heritage but… One day, maybe. The kingdom came first, the duty given by his blood came first, but Horace could come second, at some point.
Then it was time to eat. His food tasted like ashes but it was better than nothing.
The afternoon was devoted to the library - his favourite room after the one that held his mother's portrait. Despite the numbers of books in it, Horace had already read and reread it all. Even the ones that made him sad - which he didn't like much, because he was already sad enough, but boredom was worse than sadness, so he read them too. Horace especially loved the Tales of Flynnigan Rider. For as long as he remembered being able to read, he remembered loving this story and trying to reenact it all on his own, which was difficult when you were alone.
Thankfully, Lance was here. He appeared one day, when Horace was eight, and helped him relieve Flynnigan's adventures to the fullest. Lance didn't need to eat, or sleep, only appearing when Horace needed him, but he was the best friend one could ask for. He was funny, and he liked Horace so they always had a lot of fun together. They grew up together, Lance always getting them in trouble with Horace's father, but it was always in good fun. Sometimes, Horace daydreamed about leaving together to be go on real adventures, but he couldn't do this to his parents or the kingdom. He had a duty to protect what was left of his ancestors' legacy, and Horace wouldn't be the weak link.
Lance wasn't there today when Horace got to the library.
Rapunzel was.
"Sunshine!" Horace grinned brightly.
"Flynn, I was waiting for you!" She laughed and threw herself at him in a tight hug.
Horace had met Rapunzel as Flynn in one of his solo imaginary adventure. He had found the tower she was kept in by luck, when he was trying to hide the crown he stole, and, since she always dreamt of leaving to see the floating lanterns, he helped her. He often re-imagined the circumstances of their pact, but Rapunzel quite liked the one when she hit him with a frying pan and blackmailed him into helping, so that's the version he went with. He had told her his real name, but Rapunzel never called him that - she always prefered Flynn, and he couldn't fault her for that. Flynn was free and brave, Horace… Horace was stuck in a castle, enacting a destiny he didn't want like a pathetic actor in an empty theater.
Rapunzel was a lot less here than Lance, because she loved to be outside. After all, she had spent eighteen years stuck in a tower, so she wasn't going to get stuck again in a castle, even to keep Horace company. However, she visited often, with always a new adventure to tell Horace. She had tried to convince him to leave, but he couldn't do it - couldn't imagine disappointing his family.
Her arms were light around his shoulders and, when his hands went around her waist, it was like there was nothing at all, but Horace felt warm all the same. He wasn't hugged often. Her short brown hair tickled his nose.
"How have you been?" He asked when she let him go, unable to keep the fondness out of his voice.
"Oh, you'll never guess what happened to me!"
Rapunzel threw herself in a tantalising tale about her outdoors adventures, perching herself on the window's flange as Horace settled on a nearby chair. She was swinging her legs happily, her green eyes full of excitement and glee, and Horace had never been so in love. She was so beautiful, so wonderful, so Rapunzel in every way, and he loved her. He loved her laugh, her hands, her unbrushed hair and sneeze, because it all made her her, and she was perfect.
And Horace was a hopeless sap. She had told him once, because, like everyone in his life, it seemed like she could read his thoughts.
"You can't love me," was her honest and sad reaction, "you can't love what's not here."
Horace hadn't understood what she meant by that, but he hadn't pushed - he was already embarrassed enough.
"... and then, the turtle opened its shell to show that the butterfly was safe in it!"
"That's so cool," Horace breathed, since he had always dreamt of seeing a turtle's house open. They were never any pictures in the book, or much descriptions really, so his imagination ran wild with the scenarios. He was glad Rapunzel got to see them.
Speaking of the devil, she had stopped talking and was looking at him pensively, a hand going to her chin.
"When are you leaving, Flynn?" she asked suddenly, startling him.
"Uh- well, one day, I guess."
"When is one day? Tomorrow? In a year? In a decade?" As she got more worked up, she jumped from her sit and got closer to his face, her arms going wild with the gestures.
"When- when I'm sure the kingdom is safe," Horace settled on, uncomfortable.
"Safe from what? Nobody ever come here."
"Well, one day someone might, and I'd need to be here." Horace nodded firmly at his own words, the script rehearsed since he was able to talk.
"And what needs you to be kept safe? What is so precious here?" Behind the genuine curiosity, Horace could see some deal of frustration inside Rapunzel's grimaces.
He froze up at the question, before shifting uneasily. He had never told her about his purpose here, and he knew she already knew what it was. But she wanted him to say it and, surely, she would want to see it too. He didn't like going to see the moonstone. It was the only thing in this castle that wasn't dead and grey, but it was death all the same. It was cold and draining, a danger for humanity, and it was Horace's duty to keep it safe from the world, and the world safe from it.
Instead of saying that, though, he played Rapunzel's game. He took her arm, even if it felt like a gust of wind in his hand, and led her down the corridors.
"This," he announced, "this is what I'm here."
In front of them was the immense statues of his ancestors, looking down on him with their empty eyes of stone. They were guarding the door to the moonstone, but Horace didn't even need to show Rapunzel that - what mattered to him was the kingdom, and what his family sacrificed for it. Horace had a duty that was bigger than his dreams of another life, where he was free to go on adventures with Lance and Rapunzel and every friends he ever made in his head (because, surely, they were waiting out there for him).
"And why is that a good reason to be here?" Rapunzel pressed anyway, as if she didn't know exactly what he meant.
"I'm carrying my family's legacy."
"Family? How are they your family?"
At that, Horace sputtered, looking affronted at Rapunzel's smiling face. He wasn't mad at her, because he knew what she was trying to do, but that was still the first time she had crossed this kind of line. Usually, when he talked about his family, she changed the subject.
"I- Well, I can show you the family tree," he laughed uneasily, a hand going to his neck.
Rapunzel didn't relent. "Is that enough to make a family?"
Horace bit his lips, his mind flashing back to the years he spent alone inside these walls, knowing he was trapped here as effectively as if there was no door. He was in a prison of his own making, its walls made of duty and cold-eyed pictures of ancestors, and he knew exactly what he was doing to himself. He remembered the years waking up alone, eating alone, sleeping alone, crying alone, until he started talking to the paintings and the characters in his books. Until, one day, he managed to make Lance appear beside him, because if he hadn't, he's not sure he'd have wanted to wake up that day. Was blood enough to make a family, when it was the only thing he had of them?
"It's enough to make a legacy," he whispered in the end.
Rapunzel's face was illuminated by the blue light of the moonstone but Horace didn't know when they got here. The ghosts of his lineage felt heavier here than they did when he could see their tall figures, the energy the moonstone constantly emitted the best reminder of his duty there was. Maybe that was why he didn't like this room.
"When will you see, Eugene?" Rapunzel smiled, her hand going to his cheek.
Eugene. The name meant nothing, and everything at the same time, but Horace couldn't put his finger on it. His body reacted when his mind came up blank, a warm feeling bumbling up in his chest.
"I…"
"Eugene," she repeated firmly, and he shivered, "your family isn't here."
But it was, he wanted to scream, because why else would he be here? Who else could be his family? Horace was the son of Edmund and his unnamed mother the paintings; he was the descendant of Lanrar the one-eyed statue and nephew of Gadmila the noseless; he was the heir of Belund the half-erased illustration from the old book in the dusty corner in the library. Horace was a being created from stones and absence, bound to the ground by an ageless duty, made alive by a sunless moon that kept him cold to his very heart. There was no family for Horace.
"But there is for Eugene," Rapunzel whispered, her thumb warming the grave that was his skin even as he knew that it was not here.
Horace was friend with ghosts of his own imagination. Eugene… The walls shivered, or maybe that was just Horace. He felt like the world was crumbling on itself, his infinite loneliness cracking under pressure, revealing a treasure he wasn't sure he could be brave enough to take. What was wrong with being alone forever in an empty kingdom?
Eugene…
He tried to take Rapunzel's hands in his but his fingers went through. She was still smiling, but he could see right through her, the moonstone shining exactly where her heart should be.
"Come on Eugene, your family is waiting for you," she said, and she was shining too, a golden hue seeping through her fingers and going to his chest, soothing the pain away as she made his memories come back.
He remembered now - Eugene had a family of his own making.
With a full-body jolt, Eugene came back to himself and let go of the heavy orb he was holding in his palms. His body was tense and trembling as he watched the dull grey ball rolling away from him, his mind flashing back to the events that led him here - the weird wedding gift addressed to Rapunzel, the orb that he was too curious not to touch and then… He remembered this other life as if he'd lived through it, remembered the loneliness and the imagined voices to fill it, remembered going crazy and refusing to leave but- that was not him. That was Horace and he wasn't…
"Eugene?" Rapunzel called worriedly, but it sounded from a million miles away. "Are you alright?" Her hand, warm and heavy and real went to his shoulder.
Though, what really shook him awake was seeing Angry and Catalina going to pick up the orb.
"Don't," he yelled sharply, surprising everyone with his outburst - and, thankfully, stopping the girls mid-movement. "Don't touch that," he added tiredly once every faces was turned toward him.
And there were a lot of faces - the girls and Lance, for one, but also Varian who was looking curiously at the orb, Stan and Pete who were looking curiously at their Captain, Pascal who was chirping on Rapunzel's head while said Rapunzel was frowning at him, worried.
"You okay buddy?" Lance asked, and, going by their bemused expressions, whatever happened may have seemed to be years but must only have took a handful of seconds.
"I-" Eugene stuttered, remembering a world where there were all figments of his imagination - a world where his only family was made of memories and obligations, where everything was dark but not only because of the sky, where Eugene never knew how much he needed them. He surveyed the room and watched all the familiar faces he loved being worried about him, about his well being, and he realised that some were missing too, that there were more people who loved him that just weren't here at the moment. Eugene knew he was lucky, but it hadn't felt as sharp in quite some time.
"Yeah, I'm okay," he breathed out finally, because, even if he wasn't exactly fine, even if there still was a weird magical orb trapping people in their worst nightmare rolling on the floor right now that had been sent to his wife, even if he'd need to hug his dad and ask for his mom's name the next time he saw him, well… Even with all that, he was okay.
He had his family with him, after all.

Chapter 12
I’m not sure how much longer Star drags me along before I finally look up, thinking that surely we should surely be home by now. To my surprise, I can’t immediately place where we are, but I think I see the mall fairly close by? That’s halfway across town! How far has Star dragged me? Ugh. I guess I have to put my own personal pity party on hold to ensure I can end up in my own bed tonight. The sheer amount of despair that thought provokes nearly makes me give up and lay back down, but I guess I’ve become more tired of sitting in this wagon than I thought, because the shaking now feels unbearable.
I roll out of the wagon and land on the concrete, but Star continues determinedly pulling her load along. I pick myself up, brush myself off, and rush to catch up with her. It causes a litany of aches and pains to run over my body, unfortunately, but I guess that's what you get for fighting above your weight class twice in the span of two days. Professional fighters usually spend months between fights, but I sure ain’t a professional. Still… they remind me of what I’ve been up to since I met Star. I fought monsters, I just finished fighting a fuckin demon! And I literally haven’t been bored even a single moment, the whole time. In spite of my grief for Rodrigo and his many brothers, I find a smile on my face.
“I see you finally decided to get up.” Star sounds completely miffed, perhaps understandably so. She must have been dragging me for miles. A twinge of guilt runs through me, she protects me (Mostly?) from Janna while I’m unconscious, then carries me away from the queen of creepiness herself? And I respond by making her drag me miles in a little metal wagon. I chuckle a bit nervously, scratching the back of my head. “Yeah, well, sorry about that. Janna… really gets to me. Where are we going anyway?”
Star glances over towards me with her lips pursed, but after only a few moments her gaze softens. In addition, that flush crops back over her cheeks and she looks away. Suspicious. I might have to find out if Star has anything to be guilty over herself. “Uh, yeah. We can call it even I guess. We’re heading to the school! We came out for your bike, we’re gonna get it.” Star declares, before pumping her free fist vigorously to punctuate her statement.
“Star…” I look at her in pity. “Did you take directions from Janna?” She blinks, tilting her head. “Yeah, why?” I grimace and rub the bridge of my nose. Stress levels rising. “Janna will literally never give you correct directions. Something about a middle school dare. We’ve been heading in the wrong direction for like, two hours.” I’m treated to my second view of Star’s cheek marks shattering in the same day, though unfortunately far less enjoyable this time. She groans, tossing herself back into the wagon to take my place. Her gigantic mass of blonde hair cushions her fall and honestly makes the thing look much more comfortable.
“C’mon. We’re pretty close to McDonalds, let's just grab some lunch.” Only unintelligible muttering comes from the bed of the wagon, and so I decide it's my turn to drag her around. I grab the handle and begin wheeling her along the sidewalk, wondering how in the world she’d managed to pull me for so long. A person is crazy heavy! Stupid warrior princess muscles. Probably the very same things making it so heavy for me. Luckily I don’t have to drag her nearly as far, but it's still going to be a grueling ten minutes of exertion all the way to our McDonald’s parking lot. “Listen, Marco, about earlier. You’re my guide to all Earth stuff, right?”
“Urgh. Yeah, that's right.” I answer, grunts of effort sometimes leaking out. Are these wheels even turning? “Well, you’re really smart about Earth stuff, but like… crazy dumb about magic. In the future, I’m gonna need you to follow my lead on that stuff. I’ll be your guide to the weird and wonderful magic of the multiverse!” Talkative when she’s not the one pulling, huh. I take my time to think that over, pondering what that would mean. On the one hand, that means I’m putting my safety and sanity in the hands of someone I’m pretty sure would classify as crazy. On the other hand, I really do have no clue what I’m doing when it comes to magic. That demon could have killed us, and it was all my fault. If we’re gonna keep seeing things like that…
“Alright, alright. That makes sense. We’ll just have to *gasp* teach each other.” Star bounces up onto her knees with a manic grin, shaking the whole wagon. “Great! First rule from your magic teacher: Unless I say otherwise, everyone who claims to be an Earth magician is doing real magic.” I slap my free hand into a vigorous facepalm, already feeling that that particular misunderstanding is definitely going to come back to bite me. “God-fine, sure Star. Every wacko who claims a mastery of voodoo or card tricks is a real wizard.” I hope my heavily slathered sarcasm makes it through that glitter filled skull of hers, but if so, she doesn’t react to it.
“Great! Also, I think we’re here.” Star jumps out of the wagon and points up at the building in front of us, done in beige and yellow. McDonalds written out in nice big letters, guess she’s right. I wonder if her dimension uses English in their writing as well, or if she learned before coming here? She does have a weird accent, now that I think of it. Something distinctly European, almost like a British accent's weird hyperactive cousin? About the best way to explain it. I of course park our wagon perfectly in the center of a parking space, finding myself compelled to click an imaginary electronic key. “Beep beep.”
I feel a hand snag my hoodie and drag me violently towards the door. “Hurry up, Marco! I smell food!” We blast into the door, which is thankfully push, rather than pull. I honestly think we might have busted the glass the other way around. Star thankfully releases me after I give her an affronted glare. The nerve, going after my hoodie. It could have stretched! She herself is bouncing up and down giddily, eyes swerving from place to place at lightning speed. I can tell the only reason she hasn’t gone any further into the room is that she simply can’t decide which to explore first.
“Earth Guide, rule one. When you find yourself in a place you don’t understand, do exactly as I do-or what the majority of others seem to be doing.” I gesture to the line of people getting ready to order, and step into line myself. “Oh, oh yeah. I can do that. No problem.” Star slides into place beside me, rather than behind me. Close enough, I guess… I’ll be paying for her food anyhow. “See that sign above the counter? Some of the items have pictures, some don’t, but that's the menu. Pick out one item from there, and a drink size.”
Star responds only with a few rapidfire nods, eyes already locked onto the menu. I wonder how she’ll do at her first time ordering a meal in an Earth restaurant? Unfortunately she’s not the most observant. I doubt she even hears how everyone else makes their orders, focused as she is on picking out her items. Eventually it comes time for us to make our orders, and she glances at me first. Good girl! She can learn! I step up and make my order quickly. “I’ll take a number three with a large fry and a large drink.” She asks if I’d like to make it a combo, which, obviously. I nod, then glance over at my new friend to see if she can follow along.
Star takes a deep breath, then holds up her wand and points it at the employee taking her order. It begins glowing with a menacing pink light. This isn’t exactly a promising start. “I don’t know what any of these are! I’ll just take the corn nuggets with the largest drink you have!” I quickly elbow her and shake my head, the poor confused lady just staring at us. “Star, there aren’t any corn nuggets on the menu!” She blinks, suddenly seeming just as befuddled as the rest of us. “What kind of food place doesn’t have corn nuggets?! I didn’t even bother looking for them, since I figured they weren’t one of the items with pictures!”
I sigh. Of course she only looked at the pictures. I slowly move Star’s wand arm down towards the floor so she can stop threatening the nice lady taking our orders, and thankfully she lets it stop glowing shortly after. “Look, she’ll take the 8 piece nuggets, large fry, and a large drink. Yes, Combo, whatever. Listen-thrown in a kids meal toy and she’s less likely to cause another scene.” The look of sheer exhaustion on my face must have clued the employee into something, as she suddenly gives me a look of sympathy and nods. I snag our two cups and lead Star over to the drink machine, a confused look on her face.
“Star. Can you tell me what you did wrong there?” She blinks, then frowns, thinking back over her actions. “Well, I greeted the lady, asked her for the food, and told her my drink size. Honestly, I think I did great. Pretty much the only one in the wrong is this place for not having corn nuggets.” Star scoffs, clearly unrepentant. We have a lot of work to do here. “No, Star. You threatened an innocent woman, demanded food instead of asking, and didn’t read the menu. At all. Worse, you didn’t observe anyone else to figure out the right way to do it-even me! You could have literally only repeated what I said and been fine!”
“Ohhhh. I just figured princesses behaved differently, so I never really think about how other people do things.” Star begins holding up fingers in turn as she lists off “Always meet a new person vigorously and with your weapons at the ready, from Dad. Never ask for anything as it makes you look weak, from Mom. Annnd both of them always said it was other people’s responsibility to match my demands. I did it all right! Three boxes checked, woo.” Star pumps her arms, a proud grin on her face.
I simply shake my head, wondering where this spoiled side of Star has popped up from. I mean, when she said she was a princess, it was always kind of hard to see-she treats me like an equal, along with my parents, and even Janna. But I guess service people automatically ping as ‘peasants’ for her royal upbringing? I wonder if it's even possible to overwrite fourteen years of habits built while considering yourself one of the most important people in your country. “Second Earth Guide rule: Marco’s orders supersede princess training. You can’t be a normal Earthling if you follow all the crazy rules of being a princess at the same time-heck, I find it hard to believe you follow them even half the time anyway, so this should be easy!”

Games We shouldn’t play
Chapter Two: Blind Date
You were beginning to wonder where everyone was when you noticed Jaebeom sitting at a table very obviously set for two people by the window overlooking the Han River and the lit up city surrounding it. He was dressed in one of his nicer suits and his hair swept back and styled over the undercut in a way that sharpened his features and made his piercings stand out. He looked handsome and suddenly you were glad you’d taken the time to put on the dress instead of your usual slacks and solid color blouse get up.
“Hey. Why are you sitting here?” You asked an obvious confusion lilting into your voice as you got closer to him. He blinked a moment like he hadn’t recognized you at first but recovered quickly, stood and pulled out your chair for you. You sat down thanking him and smoothing out your skirt from the creases the movement caused.
“No clue. Told her the reservation would be under Jackson’s name and she brought me here.”
“Oh. Well did you try calling Jackson or the others? What about Jinyoung or Youngjae. Jasmine and Sooran were giving me fits about being late so I didn’t have time to make sure we were at the right place. I’m sorry.”
“I tried calling Youngjae and Jinyoung. There wasn’t an answer and I thought maybe there was a mistake about the table, but none of the others are even here.”
“Okay. Well...I’ll text Jackson and figure out what’s going on.”
Tumblr media
“They set us up.”
“They what?” Jaebum was looking at you like you’d spoken a foreign language.
“This. The restaurant, the clothes, your hair. It’s a date. I can’t believe this,” you scoffed.
“I can. It’s Jackson,” Jaebeom replied. He was starting to smile and you pointed at him.
“Don’t you dare laugh. This is so n-not funny.” Even as you said it you were beginning to giggle. It wasn’t funny, no, but it was incredibly absurd. Jackson did stuff like this all the time but for the others to agree to this too was just crazy. The two of you were laughing for a good while only sobering when the waitress came over to take your orders. You told her what food you wanted and looked back at Jaebeom who was wiping at his eyes and trying to catch his breath.
“So now what? I mean we obviously can’t let them get away with this.” You mused out loud even though you weren’t necessarily expecting an answer.
“We could pretend that it worked.” JB said.
“What do you mean?” You asked propping up on one elbow and turning your full focus to him.
“I mean. We could pretend to hit it off. Then after a couple weeks start arguing like we hate each other until we have this big break up. It could work. We get revenge on Jackson. I get to hang out with a good friend and go to nice places. You get to show your stupid ex and Hyeji up. Sound’s good from where I’m sitting.”
"That implies that I care about Jin and Hyeji enough to want to show them up, which I don't, besides what would they care about us dating?"
"Well considering she tried to hit on me first and I turned her down flat and it was only after that she started to cozy up to you and Jin…"
"Wait what?!"
"Yeah. You know she was new here. She was looking for friends that could help her out in the industry and I suggested you and Jin. I mean I would have suggested Mark, but he mostly designs men’s clothes and couple outfits, so I suggested you and since Jin and Jimin are our marketing guys I knew she’d have to talk to one of them, but Jimin was on vacation at the time so I suggested she talk to Jin too. Then she asked me if I knew anyone that could help her personally and kind of made it obvious what she meant and I turned her down flat. I guess after that she asked Jin for the same advice and he told her what she wanted to hear. I’m sorry y/n if I’d known that she was going to do that I would never have sent her your way.”
You were spiraling. You knew that. The idea that Hyeji had planned all of this from the beginning. She’d been your friend. The two of you had gone out, shared secrets, you’d even made sure that she got into some of your best designs and into more than one of the runway shows because you’d thought you were doing her a favor by helping her get a foot in the door. Really you’d just done exactly what she’d wanted. Aside from you she now knew the best of everyone in your connections and probably in Seokjin’s too.
“I’m so stupid.”
“What?”
“You heard me. I thought I was helping a friend out and this entire time I gave her everything she needed to double cross me. Hell I might as well have just let her and Jin borrow my bed.” Hot tears rolled down your cheeks, not out of sadness, but out of anger.
“You aren’t stupid. If anyone, it is Seokjin. He gave up on someone like you for someone just like everyone else in this industry. Now stop crying before someone thinks I’m the biggest jerk here and say you’ll go out with me just so we can break up in a couple weeks and teach our friends a lesson.” He wiped at the tear tracks and teased earning a small and slightly exasperated titter of a laugh from you.
“We have got to work on your sales pitch,” you laughed a little harder at the affronted look on his face and more still when he replied.
“It worked. Why should I fix what isn’t broken?”
“Point made, so, what are we going to tell the team on Monday?”
“Why don’t we just get through dinner first? If we get along well enough here without being awkward then we can make it anywhere else. Food.” He said and the two of you shifted so that the waitress could easily put your plates down.
The first few minutes were quiet as you two ate and thought about what you’d just agreed to do. You were also still hanging up on all the lies that Hyeji had told you and possibly told Jin too to get where she was now with him on her arm at all the appropriate events and you behind the curtains once again with your emergency sewing kit and a broken heart that you couldn’t quite seem to get stitched back together.
“Cats or dogs?” He asked.
“Huh? Oh cats. I have a little ocicat that I adopted in a shelter I volunteer at. He was a runt so he was the last of the litter and they’d been separated too soon from their mom so everyone, but me, thought he wasn’t going to make it. I said I would take care of him and here we are,” you told him smiling after you finished the last bite of your food. You sat your fork down moving the plate so the waitress could access it and pulled out your phone to show a picture of you with a kitten who had his paw extended trying to swat at your phone so it was obscuring a third of the photo.
“He’s adorable. What’s his name?”
“Gureum”
“Well I suppose his fur does look like rain clouds.”
“What about you?”
“Cats. I have three. Nora, Kunta and Odd are their names.”
“That explains the scratches.” You muttered not really intending for him to hear it, but since the two of you were in a more intimate setting than usual he did.
“I thought no one noticed.” He twisted his hands in the light where you could see a few white scars and some raised pink areas along with a few red scabbed lines. To anyone else they probably would go unnoticed, but you had similar ones on your own hands you’d just covered them with a bit of concealer.
The night went on until you were sure there wasn’t much left you could learn about JB that you didn’t already know either from what you’d learned as his friend before or what you’d come to learn tonight. It amazed you also that you had never really realized how funny and extroverted he was up until now.
“I’m sorry to disturb you, but we will be closing soon.” A busser came up to you for his part really looking apologetic to be breaking your night up. Apparently being one of the only few staff left on shift for the night, your waitress long gone after serving dessert and making sure you didn’t need anything else having told you that Jackson had put the meal on a tab for the two of you.
“Thank you. It’s late anyway. I’m not worried about Gureum, Jasmine would have fed him for me. She lives across the hall, but I am worried about whether she waited up.” you said laughing. If you knew your friend she’d probably done that and invited Sooran over to join in.
“I’ll take you home anyway. The busses stopped running for this district an hour ago and I’d rather know you’re safe than have to guess at it.”
“You just want to go ahead and get our prank started.”
“Or maybe I had fun and want to spend more time with you?” He countered.
You flushed a little feeling your ears get warm and tossed your straw paper at him. He really could be charming and it had felt nice to just have someone to talk to like this.
“I’m going to take the silence as a yes. Don’t forget your coat.” He stood and came around to put it on your shoulders and guide you out of the door over to the valet station to get the car brought around. A slate colored Hyundai Sonata was pulled around, not the newest model but a fairly recent one and you nodded. It suited him. It was a very chic car and you couldn’t help but wonder once again why you’d never bought a car of your own but it hadn’t really mattered considering the proximity that your apartment building was to the transit and bus lines and that you were practically in walking distance of all your favorite places and people aside from that.
“This is where you live? I live in the building three streets over.” He laughed when you directed him to a parking deck and swiped your resident card to get in.
“Isn’t that the building where Jinyoung, Sooran, Mark and Jackson live?” you asked, trying to think of the apartments in that direction.
“Nah, Youngjae, Yugyeom and BamBam live in that one with them. I have been trying to get in there, but for now I still live in the same building as Seokjin, Yoongi and Jimin. Made things a bit awkward since Jimin sided with Jin...” That was right, she'd seen him once on the way to Jin’s place when they’d accidentally gotten off on the wrong floor made enough rukus for JB to poke his head out of his room and Jimin and Yoongi had lived right next door on either side with their orange and mint fluffs of disheveled hair popping out of their doors too. She’d forgotten since she never really had stopped by for anyone, but Jin before. Small world.
“I can’t say I blame him. Jimin and Jin went to college together along with several of our other employees, some of our models, and a few of our accounting reps are in that group. Namjoon, Yoongi, and V were really the only ones who really seemed sorry to hear about it but V hasn’t really liked her since she got here, and Yoongi is down there with you most of the time so he interacts more with me than Jin, even though he is on a different team. In fact most of the models haven’t really gotten along with her since Ceo Yoo had her hired on, and it’s strange since Jungkook likes everyone, just about.” The two of you had talked all the way up to your door and just like you thought before you could get the key turned in the knob it opened.
“Where have you two been?” Jasmine said getting a knowing look on her face eyeballing the dress you’d worn and the suit JB was in. She looked a little like she was trying to inspect you to see if there were any signs things had gone really really well and you rolled your eyes a little. Sooran poked her head out behind Jasmine a little later holding Gureum in her arms who was purring away and squinting his eyes in that happy way of his… traitor. Both yours and Jabeom’s outfits were a little crumpled from how long the two of you had sat at the restaurant and the car ride, but not in any more of a disarray than was socially acceptable.
“I gave you that key so that you could feed my cat not so that you could spy on me. I will take away your best friend privileges. Out. You too, Sooran, out and give me back my cat.” You ordered a smile still playing at your lips. They bowed their heads looking some mocking version of pouty and ashamed as they went over to Jasmine’s door which you noticed remained cracked open even though they’d gone in.
“I thought you were joking when you told me she’d wait up,” Jaebeom had somehow inherited the responsibility of Gureum, but he didn’t seem to mind that fact as he scratched at the cat’s head behind his ears.
“Nope. You can sit him down. He’ll just walk back into the apartment when I do,” you told him.
“So is this your way of telling me you’ll see me Monday?” He asked.
“How about tomorrow instead?”
“Tomorrow’s good. Should I pick you up? Or do you want to meet me down at my building and go from there?”
“I’ll meet you. Ten okay?”
“Sounds good to me.”

a wild grab bag of reply-replies
Normally I’d do this in batches of related topics or whatever but something I reblogged got a ton of notifications and for some reason Tumblr’s not grouping them together so I had to scroll for three days to get to any notes about any other posts, so like, yikes, sorry, here’s a firehose of everything interesting anyone’s ever said to me. Thanks, Xkit, for allowing reply-replies, but sorry, Dreamwidth peeps, for what an incoherent mess the crossposter makes this into.

a) sprinklers ≠ whole pool, b) May ≠ August
i mean, fair, but we also had a kiddie pool and we also just sprayed the hose on each other, and it was over 90 yesterday.

That undercut is just magnetically attractive. I was gonna play the whole game with the long hair but the opening screen kept TAUNTING me and I went undercut and haven't changed it since.
I can’t get over it, it’s sort of horrifying to me what a difference it makes for me. I have to re-evaluate myself in ways I wasn’t prepared for.

Uhhh. Remember it’s still May and snowed like three weeks ago so the large bodies of water + water tables are still frigid
I mean, fair, but, I did this in spring as a kid. I have noticed that the temperature of the water at my parents’ house doesn’t vary seasonally, but the municipal water supplies in Buffalo and Rochester absolutely do, which is super weird

My mom used to fill our kiddie pool and then boil several kettles of water to dump in. What a sweet gesture, in retrospect
awww!!!
Last night I emptied the muddy water and refilled the pools with clean water, so that it could be at least ambient temperature this afternoon. Of course, having done that, it’ll be rainy and we won’t play outside, but we need the rain so it was all really kind of a ploy to exploit Murphy’s law.

So of the pig farmer, the military logistics, and the party-planner, which was the one you would ask to hide a body and which one got offended?
The pig farmer! Who, in retrospect, is also super-intense and competitive, so IDK why I didn’t see that coming except I fully expected her to be like “I have a business, I can’t risk the cops involving themselves!” and she was like HOW DARE U. She’s super ruthless but also ride or die and how dare I forget that.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14
*
“Beer?”
Eddie accepted the bottle Ben handed to him and quickly checked the ingredients and alcohol percentage as Ben handed out the rest to the others.
“Thanks, man, but I think I’m gonna cut back on the alcohol intake,” said Richie, and Eddie looked over at him in surprise; Richie was never usually one to decline alcohol no matter how much Eddie pestered him about the state of his liver.
“We’ve got lemonade?” Ben offered.
“That’ll do.”
Richie accepted the glass and leaned back in the deck chair, eyes closed contentedly, his long legs stretched out in front of him and the beams of sunlight that filtered through the wooden planks from the balcony above lighting up strands of his dark hair in streams of gold. Eddie caught himself staring and looked away quickly, accidentally making direct eye contact with Stanley who just rolled his eyes. Eddie scowled at him in return.
Ben’s bachelor party was far more subdued than Bev’s; just the guys hanging out on the back porch of Ben’s frankly massive house, watching fall leaves drift down onto the garden, their warm hues lighting up in the glow from the afternoon sun. Warmth still lingered from summer but it wasn’t sweltering, and the Losers - minus Bev - were able to lounge around in light jackets while Ben grilled burgers and hotdogs on the barbecue, the smell of charcoal mingling pleasantly with the sweet scent of the fall air.
“You know shoes were invented for a reason,” said Eddie, grimacing as Ben accidentally dropped a scolding hot sausage onto his bare foot for the second time.
“If you say that again, I’m feeding you the floor hotdogs,” said Ben. “Shoes are restrictive.”
“Also protective.”
“Those floor hotdogs sure have a lot of germs on them, Eddie. You know this is where Ember does her morning piddles.”
Eddie nearly gagged. “And you’re walking barefoot there?!”
“I pressure wash it.” Ben lifted his foot and tried to stick it in Eddie’s face. “My feet are super clean. Here, smell them.”
“I’m not sniffing your fucking foot.”
“Lick it, Eds,” said Richie. “Once in a lifetime opportunity.”
“You are both fucking disgusting,” said Eddie, shoving Ben’s foot out of the way which threw him off balance and straight into Mike’s lap.
“Christ, man, are you sure you lost weight?” Mike groaned. “I think you just broke both my legs.”
“He replaced it all with muscle,” said Stanley, leaning forward to squeeze Ben’s bicep.
“Ooh, if he gets a squeeze,” said Richie, leaning forward too.
“Nope, nope, nope, we are not doing this again,” said Ben, extracting himself from Mike’s lap. “I have burgers to cook and bicep-squeezing privileges are for Bev’s hands alone.”
“Lucky lady,” said Richie with a wink, and Eddie tried not to let his jealousy show.
“So, guys, is anyone going to tell me what actually happened last night?” said Ben. “Bev refuses to say anything.”
Eddie sank down in his chair a little, hiding his face behind the beer bottle so no one could see how red it had gotten. Richie, on the other hand, didn’t seem at all ashamed.
“Let’s see, we got drunk, hired a stripper-”
“A stripper?” Ben squawked.
“Not as hot as you, don’t worry,” said Richie, winking again. “Got more drunk, played some party games, Eddie apparently decided to fuck off and clean my house-”
“It was fucking disgusting,” Eddie protested.
“He’s always been like that,” Bill snorted. “R-remember when we all had that sleepover at mine when we were like twelve and ss-stole my mom’s chardonnay and he ended up downstairs doing laundry?”
“Oh shit, that’s right!” cried Stan, grinning gleefully. “And your mom’s face when she came home and we were all throwing up but she didn’t even get mad coz the house was so clean!”
“Drunken housemaid, that’s our Eds,” said Richie, grinning over at Eddie fondly.
“Don’t call me Eds,” Eddie grumbled, sinking lower in his chair.
“So what happened after?” said Ben, smiling warmly at his friends’ stories as he piled burgers and hotdogs into buns and passed them out on paper plates.
“Then Richie got super friendly,” said Mike.
“I cannot be held responsible for what I did when drunk!” Richie protested, mouth full of burger. God help him, Eddie even found him cute with food spilling out of his mouth.
“What did he do?” said Ben, grinning already in anticipation.
“Only tried to make out with literally everyone there,” said Stanley.
“Did he now?” said Ben, grinning even harder. “I hope you’re not trying to steal my fiance.”
“She wasn’t into it,” Richie pouted. “But if you’re feeling left out, Benny-boy…”
Richie lunged towards Ben who managed to block him just in time, holding him away with ease and laughing as Richie made kissy noises and grabby hands at him.
“Ok, ok, you can kiss my cheek,” said Ben when Richie didn’t relent. Ben turned his cheek towards him and Richie leaned in but grabbed his face at the last minute and smashed their mouths together.
“Success!” cried Richie, pulling back and raising his hands in victory while Ben wiped his mouth and tried to stop laughing. “I have now made out with every Loser!”
“You d-d-didn’t use tongue with him, it doesn’t count,” said Bill.
“Don’t you dare,” said Ben, holding his hands out in front of him defensively when Richie looked like he was about to try again. “We’ll say it counts.”
Richie held up his hands in surrender and finally sat back down. “Whatever you say, Benny-boo.”
“You know how fucking revolting that is right?” said Eddie. “You know how many diseases pass via saliva? You could get mono, you know?”
“What’s the matter, Eddie-spaghetti, are you jealous?” said Richie, turning to grin at him obnoxiously.
“No, I’m not fucking jealous,” said Eddie which was a huge fucking lie.
“You know you’re still my number one guy, Eddie Bear,” Richie cooed, pinching Eddie’s cheek until Eddie swatted his hand away. “Well, right after your mom.”
“I hate you.”
“If that’s what you wanna call it,” coughed Stan and Eddie glared at him.
By the time everyone had eaten enough food to last them the whole winter, the sun was dipping low in the sky and the air had gained a chill more reminiscent of fall, so the Losers packed up the deck chairs and headed indoors to lounge on the stylish but comfortable couches and snoop through Ben’s things.
“Holy shit, you have all my shows on DVD?” said Richie from where he was sat cross-legged on the floor, eying up Ben’s impressive film collection as Ember snoozed in his lap, something that Eddie found revoltingly cute. “Didn’t know you were such a fan.”
“They’re Bev’s, actually,” said Ben. “From back before we all remembered. She said she never actually watched them but bought them all anyway coz she just liked having them.”
“Huh, that’s so weird,” said Richie, smiling slightly as he brushed his fingers over the plastic covers of the selection.
“I’ve seen them all,” said Eddie before thinking, and Richie looked sharply up at him, eyes wide.
“You have?” he said, his mouth splitting into a very egotistical grin
“Fucking hated them,” said Eddie, which wiped the grin straight off Richie’s face. “Your jokes never felt right. Guess subconsciously I just knew they didn’t sound like yours.”
“But you still watched them all?” commented Stanley.
Eddie shot him a look to tell him to shut his mouth, then shrugged. “I don’t know, I guess some part of me just…”
“Missed me?” Richie finished, that shit-eating grin back on his face.
“Yeah, whatever, dickwad,” said Eddie. “Myra fucking hated you, for the record.”
Richie gasped dramatically. “How could she? The love of my life!”
“I thought Eddie’s mm-mom was the love of your life,” said Bill.
“Same thing.”
Eddie threw a cushion at him and Richie batted it away before it hit the dog.
“You know, I went to one of your shh-sh-shows once,” said Bill as if only just remembering. “Friend of mine d-dragged me to it.”
“Did you at least like it, Big Bill?” said Richie as he put on his most exaggerated puppy dog face.
“As much as you liked the endings of my books,” said Bill, and Richie pouted, affronted. “Nothing beats real Rich’s jokes,” Bill added, which seemed to cheer Richie up.
“Don’t inflate his ego,” said Stanley, rolling his eyes. “He’ll never shut up now.”
“You know you love me, Stan-the-man.”
“So you read Bill’s books?” Ben asked Richie. “Before we remembered?”
“Oh yeah. Got the whole set back home,” said Richie.
“I went to a signing once,” said Stanley, and Bill looked over at him in surprise. “It was like your first book and I had no idea who you were, but you were in town so I went. Had no idea why, but-”
“Part of you knew,” finished Mike. “I went to one of those book signings too.”
It was Mike’s turn to be stared at.
“Yy-you did?” said Bill.
“Couldn’t stay long or I’d start forgetting, but yeah, man,” said Mike. “You were in Maine and I couldn’t resist.”
“But I wouldn’t have-” said Bill. “I didn’t recognise you.”
“No,” said Mike. “But it’s fine, man. You all remember now, that’s what matters.”
“But you could remember the whole time,” said Ben.
“That really must have sucked, man,” said Richie.
Mike shrugged, looking a little self-conscious. “I mean… Yeah. At first, when you’d just moved out and you never replied to any of my letters, I thought… I thought maybe you just didn’t wanna talk to me anymore.”
“Shit, man,” said Bill, reaching out to squeeze Mike’s hand. “You know we would never…”
“Yeah, I know,” said Mike. “I know you guys aren’t like that. That’s when I figured it had to have something to do with It.”
“You were still all alone,” Eddie said, almost a whisper. He couldn’t imagine what it would be like if he remembered the Losers while they couldn’t remember him, if they were out there living their lives while he was stuck at home with his mother, never responding to messages or calls. If he saw them in person only to be met with irrecognition, their eyes passing over him blankly as though he were just another stranger. And, god, if Richie ever looked at him like that...
“It wasn’t so bad,” said Mike, smiling at them all in a clear attempt to be reassuring. “I kept track of you, watched your careers grow. I was so proud of you all… I’m glad I can tell you that now. I love you guys.”
“You better shut up before Richie starts crying,” said Stanley who seemed to be the one actually close to tears. He smiled at Mike. “Love you too, man.”
“Yeah, thanks for dragging us all back to that shithole,” said Richie, “or we wouldn’t be here now.”
“I wouldn’t be getting married,” said Ben.
“I wouldn’t be divorced,” said Eddie. “That’s a good thing,” he added when Mike looked concerned.
“You mm-made me have to go back to speech therapy,” said Bill teasingly before nudging Mike with his shoulder and squeezing his hand again. “But it’s all worth it.”
“Gay,” said Richie.
“Aaand you ruined the moment,” said Eddie.
“Glad I could be of service.”
“God, how did we survive without each other?” said Ben.
“Barely,” said Stan quietly, tugging down his sleeves a little.
The others fell silent for a time until Richie, being Richie, decided to lighten the mood.
“I’m thinking of getting a dog!” he said a little too brightly as he scratched Ember behind the ears. He grinned up at Eddie. “A little pomeranian called Penny. What do you think, Eds?”
“I am terminating our friendship effective immediately,” said Eddie, and just like that, the shadow that had fallen over them was lifted.
Ben lit a fire in the hearth and they all lounged around it, basking in the warm glow as they fell back into easy conversation. Ember migrated to Eddie’s lap which he was very smug about until Richie squeezed up next to him to be able to pet the dog, but Eddie was secretly quite content with a dog on his lap and Richie at his side, like something out of one of his more domestic fantasies.
Bill told ghost stories somehow scarier than their experience with Pennywise, and Stan calmed them all down afterwards by rambling about types of birds, which everyone paid rapt attention to because Stan talking about his favourite thing, his face lit up and hands waving around excitedly, was a joy to watch even if no one else cared all that much about the topic.
Later on, Ben showed them all an old photo album he’d found at his parents’ house of them all as kids, and Mike pointed to the odd picture and excitedly reminded them all about the time they all dressed as each other for Halloween, or the time Richie got suspended for filling a kid’s locker with shaving foam for picking on Eddie, or the time they all went as each other’s dates to Homecoming and tried to dance all together in one chaotic circle.
The fire was warm, and the beer seeped into Eddie’s limbs and made him drowsy, his eyes slipping shut as he listened to Richie and Stanley argue over who had the better homecoming outfit. The next thing he knew, he was waking up in the middle of the night half-draped across Richie with his face buried in his chest, Ember curled up in the small space between them, Mike leaning against his shoulder with Ben against his, and Bill propped up against his legs with Stan’s head in his lap, all fast asleep. He’d fallen asleep with his phone in his hand, and when he checked it, he found a text from Bev who must have come home while they were all sleeping, for it showed a picture of them all cuddled up to one another fast asleep on the couch. He would have been annoyed, but he had to admit it was kind of cute.

[11:25pm] Queen B: My boys <333
Eddie smiled slightly and saved the photo to his camera roll, then let his head fall back against Richie’s warm chest, not really caring that the fabric of his shirt scratched his cheek or that no one had brushed their teeth. This was a night for the Losers.

83. “If you want me, come and get me, motherfuckers.” (boeser and pettersson) kinda has a pissed brock defending petey vibe lol
disclaimer: this is a scarlet letter au! because im stupid! and i have no ideas or originality!
in this universe, people are very homophobic and it is outrightly viewed as a sin. there are no specifics in which there are derogatory terms used. however, there is a confrontational scene where homophobia leads to violence. (the violence is just swearing, but there are no derogatory terms used such as the f word.)
im sorry. but have the scarlet letter au :)
Elias is new to New England. He cannot deny that. The colony is chafing and restrictive, nothing like the wondrous sanctuary that his mother and father once thought it was supposed to be. The climate is harsh, probably not as harsh as Sweden, and the people are stifling. The land and surrounding vegetation are telling of the colony’s future, with its powdery and infertile soil and a multitude of weeds sprung up throughout the area. It will be bleak and miserable. It was nothing like what his parents intended.
At first, New England seemed to be an adventure worth living to experience. The settlers had convinced his family with bold fantasies of a life away from claustrophobic Europe to a place where a new community was to be made; a new religion, a new society, a new start. His parents had believed it, and so had he.
The journey there had been rough; the toiling ocean had been an angry god. The waves had crashed upon their ship ceaselessly, ramming upon the oaken wood with the harsh force of a thousand bulls. They had lost a large portion of their people—their, Elias laughs to himself, he cannot believe he thinks he is a part of this colony—, including his parents and his brother.
Elias was no stranger to death. It seemed to follow him like an evil fiend, one that was ready to take from him everything except his own life.
But even after his family’s passing, he thinks he would have been able to push on and make a living for himself. Yes, he definitely could have lived in this New England society, if only it were not for the mindset of the people. If only he had not journeyed with this specific group of people. If only…
_________
“This boy! This—this wretched wisp of a sinner! How dare he trample upon our consecrated soil that we have just come to bless with our settlement?” a woman exclaimed haughtily, standing near the makeshift scaffold. Her face was wrinkled in an unattractive manner, the shadows draping across the creases in her skin and creating harsh concavity to her visage.
“And with another man!” another woman gasped, her eyes filled with anger and fear.
“Now, now, he wasn’t ever part of our community. Remember, he came to us with his parents from Sweden. We can all discern what type of people are born and bred in those areas.” The woman who made this comment seemed to be wiser, yet her wisdom seemed to strangle its receivers rather than placate and inspire them.
“The nerve for him not to reveal the identity of the other sinner. He should be thankful that the punishment wasn’t dictated to be harsher,” one of the older women huffed, still managing to maintain an air of dignity about her despite the repulsion she felt.
“Hush, ladies! Are we not women of proper breeding and state? We shouldn’t bow down to the boy’s level and consecrate ourselves. Look! Here he comes!” The young woman who spoke pointed her finger at the prison door, which had been pushed open to make way for the young man. She held her child in her arms as the group of spectators diverted their piercing gaze to the iron door.
The young man walked out with disdain in his footsteps. His gaze was cool and sharp, surveying the rest of the community with ice in his light, blue eyes. He was tall and lanky in a way that introduced a sense of elegance to the people who laid eyes on his figure. It could be seen that he came from a line of high standing, not necessarily in royalty but certainly in human nature.
“He thinks he’s better than us!” the first woman shrieked again, holding an affronted hand to her chest.
The young man, having climbed up the stairs to the scaffold just then, turned his long neck and stared into the eyes of the woman who had shrieked the statement aloud. His gaze instilled fear into the woman’s heart; a type of fear that seemed to pierce all the way into the marrow of her bones. She averted his gaze, instead focusing on the black letter S that had been inked into the centre of his chest.
The young man’s gaze followed the woman’s down to the mark marring his skin. The action seemed to shake the man up, as he clenched his jaw and whipped his head away from the group of women, leaving the first woman to smirk inwardly.
Elias seemed to have no place in this godforsaken community.
_________
When Elias is rid of the stupid criminal sentence that the community forces him to endure, he moves to a cabin near the sea. It’s a nice, cozy place close enough to hear the waves crashing against the rocky cliffs. Most days, the seagulls cry out and keep Elias company. It’s pretty lonely, but at least it’s a place where he doesn’t have to suffer under the scrutiny of the community.
In Sweden, he had aspired to be an artist, because he was the second child and his family were supportive. But here, in this small, close-minded society, there was no place for frivolous pleasures like art. So, Elias sets out to find a job that maybe he’ll be able to hold for a while so he doesn’t starve and die.
He ends up working as a carpenter under a man named “Bo”. Bo is his saviour. Bo doesn’t mind Elias’s sin or the letter upon his clavicle or the fact that he slept with a man. Bo helps Elias when he struggles, often sending him home with extra food that would have gone bad if Elias hadn’t taken it or giving him an advancement on his pay because Bo just “felt like it”. Not to mention that Bo lets him paint on the walls, when they work on a religious or decorative building, sometimes instead of calling for another specialized worker.
Elias thinks he might’ve fallen in love with Bo if he hadn’t met Him.
Elias thinks he might’ve left New England if it wasn’t for Him. Or else, why would he take the shitty ostracizing from the community?
_________
“Come ‘ere fellas, look who we have here,” a man calls out, “the sinner himself. In the flesh.”
Elias groans inwardly and glares, huddling into himself.
“It’s him, huh? Didn’t your mom teach you to stay clear from unsafe places? Oh, that’s right, you don’t have one anymore,” the second man laughs, his features twisted from the malicious smile on his face.
Elias grits his teeth and clenches his fists. To a spectator, it only seems that Elias’s glare has become a touch deadlier. “Time for some new jokes. They are not funny.”
The first man has the audacity to laugh, further tormenting Elias. “You wanna go, foreign boy? What a shitty accent, don’t you think?” He nudges his partner.
“Oh yeah, just hearing it pisses me off.”
The first man smirks. “Took the words right outta my mouth! Think we gotta dispel our anger somehow, yeah?”
“Fuck yeah,” the second man chuckles darkly.
They stalk toward Elias with malice, fists balled up and muscles bulging in their arms. Elias backs away, sweat beading from his hairline. He doesn’t want to seem like a coward, but there is no way he can take one of these guys, let alone two.
There’s a rush of adrenaline in Elias’s veins. He’s about to run.
Another pair of footsteps thud across the soiled ground. The two men turn their heads toward the unknown personage.
“Brock!” the second man exclaims happily. “Glad you’re here. I thought it was someone else and it scared the shit out of me.”
Brock stops, his eyes surveying the situation. He freezes entirely when his gaze catches sight of Elias, his body still tense and prepared to flee. Brock’s eyes soften just a little before his mask is put on again.
“Yeah. What are you two doing?” he asks.
“Nothing much, just teaching the sinner a lesson. You wanna join?” the first man laughs.
A brief flash moves across Brock’s eyes. The two men wouldn’t be able to catch it, but Elias it does. The emotion brings more fear to Elias than the two men do. Elias shakes his head vehemently at Brock, pleading him silently.
Brock smirks back at Elias, making Elias’s heart thump, before shaking his head slightly to placate him. Don’t worry. It’s time I do this.
“Why are you guys bothering him, though? Pretty fucking dumb if you ask me,” Brock scoffs, crossing his arms.
The expressions on the two men’s faces change from surprise to confusion to anger.
“You calling us dumb?” the second man speaks up.
“You better not be starting shit, Boeser. Your dad won’t get you out of trouble all the time, you little bitch,” the first man sneers.
The muscles in Brock’s arms bulge through his clothing. “You think I need my dad to get me out of trouble? Fucking idiots. If you want me, come and get me, motherfuckers.”
Elias can only watch in horror as the two men swing their fists in Brock’s direction.

Starker Smut: Love You More
This fic is based off this post
Quick summary:
Peter complains of a tummy ache all day, whining and getting onto daddy's lap. When it gets late, he pouts and makes the littlest bratty sounds saying he wants to sleep next to his daddy because he's too scared to be alone when he's sick so his mom goes to a guest room and leaves them in the master. Peter's tummy makes a quick recovery and he's mouthing at Tony's dick before the guest room door closes but still thinks his daddy should stay home to watch him tomorrow.

Peter was sitting up in his bed with the blanket wrapped around him like a cocoon. He perked up when he heard the slight creak of his parent's door opening, followed by the soft creaking of footsteps on the floor. They were too light to be his daddy’s so it had to be his mom.
The omega carefully peeked into the hallway and smiled when he saw the bathroom door shut. He darted out of his room, dragging his comfy blanket with him until he was able to slip into the master bedroom.
A familiar shape was sprawled in the large king sized bed, a nicely toned arm flung across the empty space where his mom had slept.
Excited, Peter climbed into the bed and wiggled his way beneath his daddy's arm. Instantly, the alpha pulled him in close, his larger body curling around Peter's while he slept.
The omega held still, shivering in anticipation when his daddy's chin settled on his shoulder, his nose brushing against his nape. Peter breathed in, getting a healthy lungful of the alpha’s scent and his mother's coying omega one. His nose wrinkled at the intrusion, but Peter resolutely ignored it.
Alpha's scent was just so familiar and comforting… It was intoxicating and made Peter feel so warm and cared for. Lately though, his alpha's scent started doing other things to him.
His father's scent, even just a whiff of it, always had Peter slicking up instantly and this time was no different. The little omega squirmed in his father's embrace, turning to his side so that he could rub his bottom against Tony's groin.
His dad was responding to his actions, breaths becoming deeper as the alpha shifted a bit so he could get closer to Peter's scent gland. Peter offered it up without any hesitation.
A while ago, his daddy said his scent was starting to change. Maturing into that sweet, mouthwatering aroma that signaled to alphas that the omega was ready. Fertile.
For now, his scent was very similar to his mother's and that actually made Peter pout because he wanted his daddy to think of him first, not his omega carrier. Daddy always kissed his pouts away, promising that he could tell the difference and that the alpha never confused them. He said he loved Peter the most.
Peter could feel his alpha getting hard, the older man's hand slipping around his waist and lightly petting the sharp jut of his hipbone over the little shorts he wore. The omega got easily distracted by the soft breaths tickling his neck, the soft press of his daddy's lips...
And because Peter was so caught up, he didn't realize his mom had returned until the door clicked shut.
“Peter?” Her soft, confused voice came from the doorway.
“'m not feeling well,” he said softly, wide brown eyes peeking out from under the covers.
“Oh, sweetheart,” she said, sitting on the edge of the bed. “You're too big to be running to alpha whenever you're not feeling well.”
Peter couldn't help but give an affronted whine at the statement.
“How are you ever going to find an alpha of your own, hmm?” She teased gently, reaching out to pet his soft hair. “I know you think your daddy's the best, but you'll find your own mate one day.”
Peter's response was to bury deeper into Tony's arms. He was pleasantly surprised when he felt his alpha's chest rumble with soft laughter against his back.
“That's assuming I even let another alpha near this one,” Tony murmured with a sleepy yawn. His voice was rough from sleep, but his daddy sounded alert and awake.
“Tony…” his mom sighed with exasperation.
“Not feeling well, little omega?” Tony murmured into his ear, ignoring his wife.
Peter nodded furiously, knowing that his father would play along with him.
Beneath the blanket, he took hold of his alpha's hand and brought it to where his little cocklet had grown hard and aching. He had to bite his lip when his father took action, curling his fingers around it. Tony touched him, playing with Peter's cute little omega cock right beneath the blanket, unknown to his wife.
“Why don't you sleep in the spare bedroom tonight, hon?” Tony suggested, “Baby boy seems to be catching something. Wouldn't want you to get it, too. Not when you have a big day tomorrow.”
It was hard to pay attention now that his dad was playing with him. His alpha's erection was pressed, hot and ready, against his ass and his mouth watered at the thought. He just wanted to reach back and touch it, maybe rub the tip until his daddy's fluids were wetting his fingers. He couldn't though, not yet.
His mom said a few more words and Peter waited impatiently, only behaving because Alpha was holding him, touching him. The older man's large, warm hand on his stiff erection was just enough to distract the poor omega. Even then, he knew he couldn't move the way he wanted to. The movements would look too suspicious and Peter wasn't letting go of his daddy for anything.
Eventually, his mother decided to leave. She murmured a soft, “Love you, Petey. Alpha's going to take care of you, okay?”
He made a soft sound of agreement, only peeking so he could watch her leave the room  with a shake of her head.
The door had barely closed before Peter was wiggling away. His frail body had made a miraculous recovery once his mom was gone.
He looked at his daddy expectantly and said, “Mom said she loves me.”
“She does,” his alpha greed, “But I love you more, baby boy.”
“Prove it,” Peter dared with a mischievous smile.
Tony, of course, took the bait with an easygoing smile. His father was always indulgent with giving Peter what he wanted
“What do you want, hmm?” He asked.
While Peter had been forced to wait, he couldn't get the thought of sucking his alpha's cock out of his mind.
Tony propped his head on his hand, watching as Peter pushed the heavy blanket aside. The omega ran his hands over the alpha's side and hip, giving a happy purr when he went right for his daddy’s cock. He reached out and petted the hard outline straining the front of Tony's boxers.
“This, daddy.” Peter declared, his eyes darting up to his daddy's. He licked his lips, giving an obvious explanation for what he wanted.
The alpha smiled in response and reached out to thumb his son's soft, pink lips.
“You sure, little omega?” Tony gently teased, “Aren't you sick? Maybe you should just lay back… Relax… Let alpha slip his cock inside that little hole of yours and make you feel good.”
The boy's lips parted, eyes growing dark as his father's words painted such a lovely image. It was tempting… He loved just laying back and letting Alpha do what he wanted with Peter's body. His daddy always made sure to have him writhing beneath him, limbs trembling and eyes rolling to the back of his head. It was always that good.
But it had been a while since Tony let him nurse on his cock and Peter missed the weight of it on his tongue. He missed the way his daddy would pet his hair, encouraging him to take in every inch. His belly felt empty and he knew that his daddy was more than happy to help fill it up.
“I want alpha's come,” Peter pleaded with a tug on the alpha's shirt. “Daddy's come always makes my tum feel better. Can– May I have it, please? Alpha?”
When his daddy didn't immediately agree, Peter was almost afraid he'd actually say no. But then the older alpha's lips curved into a soft, familiar smile and his eyes had that look in them that made Peter's body feel warm.
“Give daddy a kiss first, baby,” Tony rebuked with a teasing smile.
With a bright smile, Peter crawled back up, laughing when his alpha grabbed him and pulled him close. Heart beating fast, Peter pressed a sweet, chaste kiss on his father's smiling lips.
“Thank you, sweetheart,” his daddy said.
Peter barely took the time to say a hasty “welcome” before he was crawling back down for his reward. He considered just pulling his daddy's cock through the little slit of his boxers but then he thought about everything he'd miss out on.
“Alpha…” Peter whimpered when he tried tugging on the offending piece of underwear.
With a huff of laughter, Tony pulled them off before returning to lying on his side. His erection was only half hard but it was already huge in Peter's eyes. He touched it with adoration, fingertips trailing up and down the thick meaty column of his dad's cock.
It always looks so huge compared to his own, but then again, Peter had a typical omegan build. Slender and petite, his daddy's hand dwarfed his own but Peter liked it that way. He loved feeling so small while his daddy was so big.
His father's cock was thick and girthy. It took way too many attempts and sessions for Peter to learn how to take it but his alpha was always patient and kind while he was learning. When he got better at it, he would purposely take it too far, choking on his daddy's cock until his eyes were watery and wet. He found that it turned him on a bit, especially the wet sounds his mouth made as he was being face fucked.
He licked this lips, no longer able to keep himself in check. Instead of pushing his dad onto his back, Peter just slides right alongside his father's body. He leveled his face over his father's groin and breathed in the deep musk and pressing his cheek along the erect length.
He gave his alpha one last peek, a cheeky smile when he ran the wet cockhead along the seam of his lips. Then he closed his lips over the tip, being careful to avoid touching it with his teeth.
Alpha ran his fingers through Peter's hair as he started to suck.
“Ah…” his daddy moaned above him. “That's it, baby boy… Take daddy in…”
Peter hummed in acknowledgment, focusing on sucking on his father's cock. The tip stretched his lips wide, the thick girth of it filling his mouth up nicely. He kept his eyes on his daddy, their gazes locked when he started to take more in.
He loved how his father's eyes were dark with emotions, raw and unfiltered as he watched Peter take him in. The omega wanted to be the best thing his daddy has ever had. Better than any lovers in the past, better than his own omega mom who should be sating her mate's ravenous hunger but she wasn't enough.
No, it was Peter taking over these duties. If anything, his mom had probably thought the alpha's libido had calmed down. Peter took great pleasure in being the one who took care of it now. Little omega though he was, Peter was enough, more than enough according to his alpha.
“C'mon, baby…” Tony groaned above him, “Don't tease. I know you can take all of it.”
He blinked large, innocent eyes at his daddy. As expected, his alpha didn't believe him. Instead, his hips pushed forward while his hand tightened in Peter's hair. That fat cock of his slid further into Peter's mouth and the omega took it, relaxing his mouth and throat as much as he could.
He loved it when his daddy took control and as long as he got what he wanted, Peter was more than happy to let it continue. His little cocklet was still hard and Peter had no shame pressing it against his daddy's leg, humping his daddy with every jerk of his hips.
He fell into a daze, loving the feeling of his dad's cock fucking in and out of his mouth. His lips felt like they were going numb but that barely registered in his mind. He sucked as much as he could but his mouth was so full. Peter didn't even have any room to wiggle his tongue around so he was forced to lay it flat.
He still tried to do as much as he could. His small hands slipped up and down, making sure that none of his daddy's cock was left uncovered. When he finally took it all, his alpha's hand kept him there, his nose pressed against with curls of his daddy's groin. On his tongue, he felt the soft little bulge of the alpha's knot.
Peter was moaning and showing his appreciation when his daddy's hands cupped his shoulders. Ever obedient, he didn't protest when his daddy rolled him onto his back because the older man followed him.
His daddy's cock never left his mouth even as Tony got on all fours, his knees settling beside Peter's head. A slight whine was all the omega had to make before Tony was shifting a bit, giving Peter some space so he could wiggle his arms free.
Didn't matter anyway. All Peter did was curl his arms around his father's thighs, fingers digging into lean muscle.
With a sigh of pleasure, his daddy continued his actions. He started really fucking Peter's mouth, shoving in with pleasured grunts and praising how sweet and warm his baby's mouth was. Peter soaked it all up, pliant and willing beneath his daddy's larger body.
He didn't even complain when the alpha's heavy balls started to smack against his chin. The omega only moaned, writhing a bit, because he loved it.
The omega could feel his little cock swaying in the air, little drops of precome dripping on his belly. His hole was dripping, an abundant amount of slick making his thighs wet. He was sure that it was getting all over the bed but Peter didn't care. All that mattered was his daddy's cock filling him up just right and the words his daddy was grunting above him.
“Hmm… Think… Think you deserve a treat, baby boy,” Tony moaned, sweat running down his neck. “You want Daddy's come, right? Want me to fill your belly with my load?”
Trapped beneath him, Peter couldn't even nod to show how much he wanted it. His high pitched cries and pleading eyes were his only form of communication.
The alpha chuckled, getting the message clear.
“Okay, Pete… You gotta relax, alright?” Alpha encouraged, hips still fucking his erection in and out of Peter's mouth. “Gonna give you my come… Give you every drop… Just… Ah… Open wide for me… Open wide…”
Peter made a sound of agreement, excited. In the past, his daddy had done lots of different things. Pulled out and splattered his come all over Peter's blushing face… Rested just the tip of his cock on his lips so he could come right on the boy's tongue. he had even come into his own hand, feeding it to Peter with dripping fingers until every drop was devoured.
The omega looked forward to any of these things.
He wasn't expecting his daddy to not falter in his thrusting. the alpha just kept keep going, throwing his head back as he used Peter's mouth. The thrusts shortened so that he was grinding against the omega's slack mouth. Peter gave a muffled cry when the little knot slipped into his mouth.
His daddy had never done that before.
The man's knot grew inside his mouth, the soft little bulge expanding until it pressed his tongue flat and rubbed against the roof of his mouth.  It locked behind Peter's teeth, stretching his mouth to the point where it almost hurt. But his daddy was petting his head, whispering encouragements into Peter's ears. It made it worth it.
“Should've done this ages ago,” Tony was groaning. “Always such a good boy for daddy… such a perfect little cocksleeve. Knew you could take the knot in your mouth pussy… Mmm… here it comes, Pete… Oh, here it… comes!”
A surprised squeal and Peter's body jerked when he felt his daddy's cock throbbing, the tip tickling the back of his throat. Then he felt it, the rush of warmth as his daddy came down his throat, depositing his come directly into Peter's belly.
He didn't even realize he was moaning, his own little cocklet spurting in excitement despite being untouched. His daddy was knotting his mouth. His jaw twinged in discomfort but nothing could take away the pleasure of pleasing his alpha.
He was a good boy. A good omega. His daddy said so.
Knotting took a while. Even caught in his mouth instead of his little hole, the knot wouldn't go down for some time. Peter could feel his belly filling up, his daddy's generous load spilling inside him.
It felt good.
And when Daddy moved him further down the bed, just in case his mom came back, Peter sighed through his nose and wrapped his arms around his alpha's waist. Tony would take care of him, he always did. Peter was free to doze off, still nursing on his daddy's pulsing cock.

hunger – grease!shawn
a/n: anon suggested me grease!shawn on my askbox and as an obsessed person that i am for the 60′s, here i am trying this one little thing. depending on the feedbacks, this might turn into a series. let me know if you like it. pairing: shawn x reader.  words: 1,594 warning: hints of badboy!shawn and badgirl!reader ahead. boldness is going to be well appreciated in here, my dudes.
One by one, all of the guys were climbing the bleachers to chill after an intense class. A couple of them quickly grabbing cigarettes, enjoying the opportunity as they couldn’t find that familiar figure of the inspector trailing her way all around the schoolyard looking for people to chastise.  Matt appeared right after, bringing soda drinks to everyone and throwing the cans to his friends and Connor followed, fixing his denim jacket as soon as he made his way to the top.  “Where did you get this?” Brian asked, frowning.  “Uhm... my mom got me this.” He could feel the judgemental stare of the boys nearly turning his body into flames as he checked his own outfit. “Had to drop my leather jacket for laundry...” He tried to justify, tilting his head down in shyness.  “Oh!” Ian aggressively held him by the shoulder and wiggled his limbs after whining. “Is momma’s little boy going to show up in diapers tomorrow too?”  “Shut up!” Connor’s arms tried to push Ian away. “This is trending right now, okay?”  “This is pretty much why the both of you haven’t had sex in 3 months.” Shawn’s raspy voice called them out, teasing them and smirking right after. He pointed his chin to a couple of girls looking up at them and grimacing after walking away.  Everybody in that school knew them. Guys would die to be a part of the crew and girls were always daydreaming about them during classes. Even though they used to give the teachers a hard time, they all had a special place in their hearts as well at the end of the day. And it could be shown by the way the gym teacher complimented their performances in a discreet mode or by the way the biology teacher tried hard to hold back a laugh everytime they joked during a test.  People could either eat them up... or hate the group to death. There was no place in between.  The ones who hated had to hate in silence so they wouldn’t get a taste of Brian’s stupid jokes or Ian’s threatens.  “Why is your girlfriend taking so long?” Shawn spoke in a firm tone, bringing Brian back to reality. “Test happens next class and she’s still not here with her fuckin’ notes.”  "Isn’t she down in there running like a dork?” Matt asked and everyone looked down.  She was hanging out with her old friends Lisa and Claire but holding hands with someone... new.  Lisa seemed to feel annoyed by the situation, so she saved herself from being a part of the party by holding her hands behind her back. Claire and Wendy were carrying the new girl around the school with rushed steps as they talked to her excitedly. Apparently, they were showing her all the spots and places inside the school before french class.  The girl couldn’t help being dragged by the two other loud girls and the grouchy one following behind with eyes constantly rolling. Everybody burning her silhouette with hungry and curious eyes as the skirt of her beautiful dress kept on swaying helplessly because, when her legs weren’t tiptoeing fast across the schoolyard, the wind used to show up a little bit rougher just to collapse against the fabric so it could draw the air with the pretty little patterns of her cloth.  They were all smiles and laughs, curiously studying her eyeliner, the style of her hair, the colour on her lips and the new girl pretended to listen whatever they were talking about as her eyes decided to get lost up in there by the bleachers.  “Who are they?” Capturing at least 5 different pairs of eyes inspecting her, she whispered softly to the girls without breaking eye-contact.  “Shawn Mendes’ stupid gang.” Lisa finally decided to speak, still keeping distance.  “Stupid, huh?” She could barely blink now, trying to confirm the ‘stupid’ concept by finding any typical boyish action.  “They’re not stupid...” Wendy said, toying with her dress to avoid looking Lisa in the eyes.  “You say this because your boyfriend is a part of the clownery.” Lisa calls her out once again, giving the boys a disgusting look and they all look away, except for the curly-haired one.  They start arguing and she seizes the moment to put up an internal challenge of who would dare to look away first?  No need to say that he had the same thing in mind.  “Mendes!” Matt called and he just mumbled a quick ‘Hm?’ “Clean up your chin, man.”  Worried, Shawn raises an eyebrow and has to give up on glancing at the pretty girl surrounded by Wendy’s friends.  “Why?” His hand makes the way up to touch his skin and everyone starts to laugh.  “You’re drooling all over the outsider!” Connor shouted and quickly covered his mouth when he saw Shawn’s fingers making a fist.  “Someone’s getting over Ashley!” Ian teases and the guys are now gathering around to make fun of him while they could.  Because Shawn had been always wearing this serious look on his face and acting like a leader so he would never be seen as the foolish member of the squad – and then nobody would ever try to confront him. And the boys learned to treat him like this after finding out that he wasn’t quite the polite guy when people stepped on his damn nerves.  Lots of hands shaking his body relentlessly and he kept the flat look on his expression, breathing deeply and bringing two fingers between his rosy lips, whistling loud and making the boys step back, fixing all of the jackets and hairs as they kept on joking silently.  Wendy catches Shawn’s eyeballs peeking her and he opens his arms in complain, quietly waiting for her to get the hint of his impatience kicking in.  Wendy finds the stairs and goes upwards, promptly taking a small paper from one of her pockets and giving it to Shawn. When he’s about to grab it, she pulls back.  “Three magic words?” Wendy asks, lips slightly apart as her hand goes to the back of her earshell, waiting for the answer.  “Gimme this shit.” His thick arm stretches towards her, palm open to receive the note as he speaks through gritted teeth.  “Wrong answer, mister.” Wendy turns to steal a quick peck from Brian’s lips and hides the paper filled with the answers to the french test inside the pocket of his black shirt. “Pass it on if he behaves.”  Lisa, Claire and Y/N are down in there near the trees. Lisa checks on her nails and Claire tells the new girl about how lovely Connor is and how she thinks that the rest of the group is about to ruin his innocence. Clearly a crush. And she’s not the only one with a crush.  Wendy has to stop in the middle of her way downstairs.  “Who’s that girl?” Shawn’s tone asks her rigidly.  “What girl?” Wendy plays the fool.  “Don’t fuckin’ make me ask you twice.” He throws and Brian is about to affront. Shawn notices and acts ‘cool’ to avoid fighting his best friend, still keeping his unmistakable attitude. “That one in the pink dress!” He points harshly and then lets his palm smack down against his thigh covered by the tight jeans, trying to vanish away the stress somehow.  Down by the trees, the conversation goes the same way.  “Who’s the curly boy?” She asks and Claire is quick to answer, just like when you ask someone about The Beatles: they could tell you all the details from head to toe by heart.  “Shawn Mendes, the one and only.”  “Her name is Y/N. But you don’t wanna get out with her.” Wendy says.  “But you don’t wanna get out with him.” Claire unconsciously imitates.  “Why not?”  “Her brother is a senior! He’s always bookin’ inside this amazing Camaro and he picks her up after the last classes everyday. You don’t wanna piss him off, believe me. He’s super duper jealous!” Wendy explains.  “He’s a piece of shit.” Lisa gets in the middle and warns. “He broke up with Ashley last summer and I had never seen anyone cry that much after vacation.”  “And no one could ever date him. He’s out of everyone’s leagues.” Claire vents, exhaling deeply. “Lucky ones who ever got their chance to place a kiss right onto his beautiful lips...”  “EW! Seriously, stop that or I’m going to throw up right here right now.” Lisa interrupts and she’s back at glancing him one more time.  As his greenish eyes move to catch hers, she can listen something about how unreal his skills were when things came to music and he could hear how she easily learned 4 languages during her whole life.  “She’s a fox!” Matt slips out... “He’s a hunk!” And Claire copies the context again.  “But you better watch out, ‘cause he’s a badass.” Lisa finishes.  “Go slow, she’s a badass.” Wendy gives her final information.  “Maybe we should see about that.” Both Y/N and Shawn are letting these words fly away from their lips in response and the inspector shows up to call everyone’s attention to head back to their classes. The guys were putting the cigarettes down, the girls were rearranging their skirts and people started walking back to the building.  Classroom filled with nervous students as the teacher walks in.  “Bonjour.” The teacher spoke flatly.  “Bonjour, professeure!” Y/N answers, catching her by surprise.  Well, not only her.  Maybe someone’s not going to need notes in a paper anymore.

Dark Crystal Age of Resistance ep 3 liveblog
“What was sundered and undone”
Just a stream of thoughts.
The Order of Lesser Service.
Everyone is dunking on Brea.
“The order of Lesser Service is not a punishment. Its an opportunity to lift yourself up by performing the lowliest of deeds.”
Its not a punishment but Brea can’t leave and a possible task is to chew up roots and spit it into baby Nebrie’s mouths. It SOUNDS like a punishment.
“I’ve never met a princess before. I imagined they’d have shinier hair.” EVERYONE is dunking on Brea.
So the Order of Lesser Service is TOTALLY not a punishment but you have to wear a jester hat and also this other Vapran gelfling girl Juni was sent to the Order for hanging out with a boy of a different clan.
It really sounds like a punishment.
“I always thought I’d make a fantastic princess, I have the hair for it. Its very shiny.” I kind of like Juni.
So the service for the day is to swan into a Podling village and force cleaning on them.
They seem awfully happy throwing mud at each other. And bellyflopping into the mud. And eating the mud. And rolling in mud.
“There is no filthier creature in all of Thra than a Podling” cool cool cool cool racism, Gelflings.
Yeah it seems gross but its what they like? So don’t be dicks about it, geez, Gelflings.
They seriously seem upset by all this forced bathing. Leave them alone!
Theres a lot of paternalism here is what I’m getting at.
Seladon just spent five minutes complaining about Brea while Cool Sister Tavra is just trying to hone her sword and mind her business.
Tavra really is the Cool Sister. The Cool Very Patient Sister.
“I can’t be washing Podlings, I had a vision that the world was ending or beginning!”
“Sounds like heatstroke”
“FUCK YOU ITS NOT HEATSTROKE”
Brea cuts a deal with a Podling to not wash them and the Podling immediately dives into the dirt to make dirt angels.
Live your truth, Podling. Live your beautiful truth, you actual potato.
Deet: “What if we fail?”
The First Podling Paladin: “Pssh”
Hup has to explain to underground elf Deet that actually Gelflings are pretty racist against each other and may not listen to her just because she’s an underground elf.
“It may be hard at first but like anything else in life, it just takes time to adjust” -dramatically removes blindfold to make a point-
Rian knows that just because you’re on a quest to save the world and are carrying a plot critical item, doesn’t mean you can’t stop to do a random act of kindness sidequest.
“Thank the harvest we have the Skeksis to keep us safe” Dramatic ironyyyyyyy
Rian immediately gives up the game by protesting that the Skeksis killed Mira.
“We protect the lords. The lords protect the crystal of truth. All lies!”
And he ditches all his castle guard gear so he’s not so easily identified in the future.
Brea trying to hide. While wearing a jingly hat.
Tavra: “You ran away? Good.” Such the Cool Sister.
So news of Mira’s death has filtered to the Vapra by this point. And since Rian is of the Stonewood clan, ooo its time for factional tension I guess.
Cool Sister Tavra has to try to keep the peace between her sister.
Tavra: “I think you and Seladon are more alike than you realize.”
Brea: “That’s a mean thing to say!”
Tavra: “Well, you’re both very stubborn!”
Also both Brea and Seladon can tell from Tavra’s silence when she wants to say something.
“The bonds of sisterhood can be tested… but never broken” Awww, Tavra!
Deet, you’re the most sunny person possible considering you’re an underground elf.
There’s a cool ominous pillar full of swords and Hup wouldn’t let Deet ask someone about it.
“Look at that filthy green Gelfling” well fuck you too, background character.
The Stonewood Gelfling at the bar try to rearrange so there’s no room for Deet but she’s oblivious to bullying and just squeezes in anyway.
Apparently a Fizzgig are just fizzgigs. So Kira was like a pokemon trainer who names her dog Dog.
“Go crawl back into the nest you came from you dirty Grottan” and then they shove her. I think she’s less oblivious to bullying now. But also Hup doesn’t approve of that behavior and launched himself across the bar and beat up EVERYONE.
That’s what a paladin is, Avatar.
“Rascal hole” wut.
I was just thinking that there’s been a dearth of Skeksis so far and BAM scene: castle, in saunters SkekSil.
“Not talk. Just listen.” ‘Hey wanna know about this cool beetle that eats eyes?’
“Noooo never use on gelfling. Only on Skeksis who misbehave. Did you hear screams last night? Friend Scientist was naughty, so saw peeper beetle.”
Chamberlain is one of those people who uses friend ironically, I think. And the nicer the term of endearment the more worried you should be, Gurjin.
“Think Gelfing. If Skeksis do that to Skeksis, imagine what Skeksis do to Gelfling that will not talk.”
“Tell Chamberlain where Rian is.”
“Never!”
-actual affronted gasp-
Librarian: “Weren’t you sent to the Order of Lesser Service?”
Brea: “I ran away. I gotta go steal from my mom”
Librarian: “You wut”
OH HEY FLYING SCENE! Wonder how they did that.
Seladon: “So the person Brea mindwiped is here. There’s been a murder at the castle. Creatures going mad. And there’s a bunch of Gelfling worried about the Blight.”
All-Maudra: “I had to send Tavra on a dangerous mission. And Brea to the Order of Lesser Service. My daughters… gone.”
Her other daughter Seladon: “.... wtf mom”
Seladon gives her mom a pep talk to break her out of her funk.
All-Maudra: “You’ll be a great All-Maudra some day. … Straighten your wings. You look like a lopsided unamoth.”
It was almost positive reinforcement for a second but you just had to undermine it, huh?
And then Brea breaks into the room to do a Theft like right after they leave.
So the Brightest Jewel is part of the chandelier? Of what significance?
Scientist: “Treacherous, perfidious Skeksis! Oh, soon… soon they will all see!”
The guy was a Mad Scientist by default of being a lizard nightmare man but he’s going Mad Scientist “they laughed LAUGHED but I’ll show them all” from his default level of Already Mad Scientist.
He’s also saying all this out loud while Chamberlain is just standing behind him.
Chamberlain: “How is friend skekTek? Good? Mm?” You’re a card, SkekSil.
Oh, cool. Scientist replaced his eye with a cybernetic prosthetic.
Chamberlain found some lab assistants for the Scientist called Gruenaks. I guess this is why the other Skeksis managed to put up with him for so long. He backstabs them all but then gives a shoulder rub and goes ‘lol sorry’
First he’s sour, then he’s sweet. Sour Patch SkekSil.
Chamberlain: “So, we are friends? All is forgiven?”
Scientist: -grudgingly- “It's a start”
Deet is off to see the Maudra Fara and is very tired of the myths that the Grottan Gelflings are all dead. Or bats.
And then Rian shows up. Holy crap, two of the protagonists in the same square mile!
Deet: “He’s much dirtier than me, why does he get to go in?”
Guard: “Because Rian is one of us! Unlike you!” Rude.
So the Rascal Hole is just an oubliette type prison dealie. And its right in the Maudra’s court, like she’s a Jabba.
Maudra Fara: “Your return puts the Stonewood clan in a dangerous position. The Skesis have declared you a traitor to Thra.”
I have to wonder how news travels so fast. Do they have female gelfling couriers sent out to all the clans to spread the word? Is there a fantasy telegraph? I guess even a courier on a landstrider would run fastere than Rian’s tiny little legs.
Rian: “The Skeksis are the traitors! They lied to us about everything!”
Fara: “I will not tolerate heresy from a murderer”
Will you tolerate heresy from a counterfeiter? Whats the crime threshold here that will allow you to tolerate heresy?
Heresy is “belief or opinion contrary to orthodox religious doctrine” so are the Skeksis literally the religion of the Gelfling? I guess the Crystal holds a massive spiritual significance to everyone of Thra and the Skeksis as the Lords of the Crystal would have a level of respect but heresy?
Rian: “I have soul goo that proves I didn’t kill Mira!”
Rian: “Dreamfast with me” which should solve everything but Rian’s dad arrived first and told Fara what the Skeksis told him that dreamfasting spreads the Madness.
Good job derailing this guaranteed plot resolution, Chamberlain.
“You are my father, why don’t you ever believe me?” I can’t wait for Rian and Brea to meet so they can commiserate over bad parents.
-Rian sees chandelier, sees rope, thinks Flynn-y thoughts-
Oh wow thats an awful lot of chandelier. And they’re full of fireflies instead of fire. Because you don’t want puppets anywhere near fire.
And Rian did do the thing where he cuts a rope and lets it carry him to escape.
Aughra: -sees the castle, reflexively- “Bah!”
Skeksis spa day???
Emperor: -applying cream and looking into a mirror- “Ah, beautiful!”
Aughra: “Skeksis?”
Emperor: “Oh shit mom’s home!”
Scroll-Keeper: “AHHH I’M NOT DECENT!”
Aughra: “PAH” -rinses her eye in his bath just because-
Aughra: “I’m unwell because Thra is unwell. I’ve come to see the Crystal, see what ails it.”
Skeksis: “NOPE CRYSTAL IS FINE EVERYTHING IS FINE”
Aughra: “Everything is well? You speak and know nothing! Or is it you know and speak nothing?” Well wordplayed, Aughra.
-starts poking the Scroll-Keeper’s belly with her staff so he has to splash her to get her to back off-
It turns out her interrupting their banquet by being kidnapped in the movie wasn’t her being upset. She’s just that rude at a constant level.
Show her the Crystal before she traumatizes the Scroll-Keeper more.
Wow, the Emperor tries a very daring guilt trip on Aughra. Having gotten her addicted to space, he criticizes her for neglecting Thra and leaving the Skeksis to take care of it.
Emperor: “Then go back to your travels and we can go back to caring for the many you left behind.”
Emperor: “Guards. Throw this useless old crone out of our castle forever!”
The Gelfling guards of course do the “i thought she’d be taller” routine.
A Guard: “My grandfather said she cursed his village with ear mites because they forgot her birthday.”
B Guard: “Well I heard she sneezed and a mountain crumbled.”
Aughra: “Its all true so stay where you are or you’ll suffer the wrath of all eight and a half fingers! BAH!” -they flinch- “BAH!” -flinch again- “Ninny wheelers. Ingrates.”
And then the guards just let her wander off on her own.
-wanders past crystal. Stops. Wanders backwards-
She is not happy with how they redecorated the Crystal with EVIL.
Apparently Past Aughra recorded a message into the Crystal for Future/Present Aughra?
And Aughra tells Aughra “The moment Skeksis possessed the Crystal they abused it.” Aughra is a bad judge of character, apparently.
So the corruption of the Crystal creates the Darkening. And the Crystal or Past Aughra also replays the footage of Mira getting turned into soul goo.
“Gelflings return to Thra when they die. That is the natural order. But when Skeksis consume essence cannot return home. Thra is out of balance, thus the Darkening spreads faster.”
Eating souls is bad for the environment. Gotcha.
“You have lost the Song of Thra.” So now Aughra is off on a quest too. Like Earthbound except singing to the Skeksis isn’t going to make them feel so bad they leave.
Deet is still trying to figure out a way to rescue Hup. By wandering around aimlessly.
What a cute random tree snake rabbit.  I keep expecting it to be actually huge and try to eat her.
Dammit Rian, you startled the random tree snake rabbit!
But hey, now two of the protagonists are in the same vicinity and ACTUALLY interacting.
Of course, Rian is massively paranoid now.
Rian: “Who sent you? Maudra Fara?”
Deet: “Maudra Argot! Well, actually it was the Sanctuary Tree.”
Rian: “??? oh.”
Deet has decided that since Rian cut in line in front of her, he has to help her rescue Hup. But he can’t what with being on the run from everyone and having broken all of the chandelier at Maudra Fara’s throne room.
Rian: “It won’t light, the ground is too wet”
Deet: “We’ll see about that.” -instantly succeeds-
Castle living has made you a bad camper, Rian.
Rian: ‘Holy shit the one person who hasn’t heard the lie about me being a murderer!’ -Deet has an epiphany and runs off- “Aww =( .”
It was nice to have two whole protagonists in the same conversation for two whole minutes. =P
Brea returns with the Brightest Jewel. And finds that Onica is now Elder Onica.
Elder Onica: “I served as Cadia’s apprentice for many trine. His memory loss allowed me to give myself a long overdue promotion.”
Hey, whatever works.
Brea was assuming, as I was, that the Brightest Jewel was payment. Which offends Onica because Stereotypes about Sifa. (Sifa Sea Faring? Boo) But the Brightest Jewel is actually a chrysalis and the answer.
Brea: “Oh. …….. I don’t understand.”
Onica: “A great many things.”
EVERYONE dunking on Brea today.
“This is the chrysalis of an Imperial unamoth, the totem animal of your clan.”
Onica: “Ask your question”
Brea: “Ask the moth??????”
Oh thats a pretty moth. Annnnnd it just flew off.
Onica was pretty cool.
Sooooo, wait. Wait. Brea is trying to learn what a vision means and is following a moth.
Annnnnd the moth turned into the symbol on the All-Maudra’s throne and opened a secret passage. Thats some good good fantasy nonsense.
Although I thought the throne room was not on the ground floor so where could a secret throne passage lead?
Questions, questions. Too many questions...
