More Framing

Brett stopped by the site yesterday and was able to check out the framing of the walls around his new office addition in our back yard.

In this photo you can see the sloping top of the east wall of the addition.  This sloping top plate will set the new slope of the roof above the office and the space below will be vaulted - so that wall shows how tall the room will be inside.

You can see the 2 openings for his new 4′ x 4′ south-facing windows.

In this image above you can see the new header beam that holds up all our existing roof rafters that have been cut off and are hanging off that beam now.  The bottom of the beam is at 8′ above the floor so that’s how high the new big sliding glass pocketing door will go.  Then the wall in front of our fire place has been re-framed - that’s where our 75″ TV will go!

In the photo above you can see the outside of Brett’s office with the new Simpson Strongwall steel shear wall in the corner.  Between that strongwall and the existing chimney will be an 8′ wide by 8′ tall sliding glass door that connects the new office to our new covered patio.  On the other side of the chimney will be another 6′ wide by 8′ tall sliding glass door that connects the living room to the new covered patio.

Next they have to tear off the existing roof so that the new roof framing can be attached to the existing roof framing.
