Bob took in a deep breath as he walked up the long, dirt pathway that lead to his parents’ farmhouse. It’d been months since he’d been back in Kentucky - years, even, and as he approached the sounds of the party his family was throwing in the backyard, he felt himself fighting harder and harder to resist the overwhelming urge to turn around and run as fast as he could back to his rental car, hop in and catch the next flight back to San Diego. He contemplated the excuses he could come up with to explain his sudden disappearance, but before he had a chance to figure out the minor details, a familiar voice called out to him.
“Bobby! There’s our favourite lil pilot!”
His uncle shouted from across the yard, coming over to him with a firm slap on the shoulder as he greeted him. Bob tried not to cringe at the juvenile nickname his family still called him - he hated being called Bobby. No one back in San Diego knew him as anything other than Bob - it felt more grown up. He was the baby in his family, often called Bobby in a condescending way to remind him of how much younger he was than everyone else.
He’d been the surprise baby in the family - born unexpectedly when his mother was 37, following behind four older sisters who were 6, 8, 11 and 13 when he was born. Now, at 32, Bob felt himself recoil internally everytime someone called him that, especially if it was his family. His dozen nieces and nephews were about the only ones he’d tolerate it from, and occasionally his grandmother - who at this point was over 90 years old, and who was he to tell her no?
Bob adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose, forcing a smile as he turned to face his boisterous family. Growing up, he’d always wondered if he was adopted - he was quiet, reserved, and shy - the complete opposite of everyone in his family tree. In fact, it was a running joke with his older sister Kate that he was adopted. He believed it for a while when he was 6 - it explained so much about him, or so he thought. Until, that was, the moment that his eldest sister, the often bossy and in control Jennifer, pulled out the home videos that had been recorded when Bob was born - a sight that Bob still couldn’t erase from his memory, regardless of how hard he tried to.
“I’m not so little anymore, Uncle Don,” Bob said with a sheepish smile as his uncle pulled him in for a bear hug.
“No, s’pose you aren’t now, are ya? You got yourself a little lady now, Bobby?”
“Not yet. I’ve been busy - haven’t been stateside in months, actually. This is my first chance at leave in over a year. Just never bothered taking it, I guess.”
That was a lie - Bob had taken a couple weeks leave last year, but he spent it at his home in San Diego, refreshing the decor and repainting to make it more to his tastes and basking in the peaceful quiet of his new space. He’d spent a day or two wandering around downtown San Diego with his friend, Bradley, the two of them exploring the area together - Bradley showing Bob all the sites he’d remembered from photographs and childhood memories. Bob couldn’t tell his family that though - they’d be crushed to learn that he had time off and chose not to spend it with them.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to see them, he was sure of it. He just didn’t want to field all the questions he knew came with each visit. Nothing was off limits to his family - his love life, relationships, his personal details - he’d lost count of how many phone calls included a casual “So, meet anyone special yet, Bobby?”. He knew they meant well, but God, was he ever tired of it.
That was the other thing he’d grown tired of - watching his language all the time. His family was religious - far more so than he’d ever been, and the idea of swearing and cursing was scandalous to them, but it was something Bob’d grown used to in his 14 years serving in the Navy, between the Academy and on base. Trying to curb it around his family members was a task in and of itself.
“Robert!” His mother's arrival interrupted his ruminations, her fervent embrace enveloping him in a maternal cocoon. "Your accent's gone already, I knew California would be bad for you," she lamented, a tinge of jest lacing her words.
“Hi Ma, missed you,” He nodded, hugging her back firmly with a smile, “Relax, Ma, I’m still a Southern boy at heart, even if I don’t sound like it. Two of the guys in my squad are from the South too. Jake’s from Texas, Bradley’s from Virginia. I’ll probably find my accent again soon now that I’m stationed with them at North Island. At Lemoore I wasn’t paired up with anyone from here.”
“Ooh, Robert,” she said softly, rubbing his shoulder as she spoke to him, “There’s someone who’s been askin’ ‘bout you.”
Bob was about to ask who it was when the question was answered for him. He turned in the direction his mother was facing and felt his cheeks flush a bright red as he saw you. You and Bob had been friends as children - best friends, in fact. You’d kept in contact over the years, but eventually, around your 24th birthdays, the hangouts became less frequent, the phone calls grew further apart and texts took longer to answer, until eventually, they stopped. Standing in front of him now, eight years later, he couldn’t imagine for the life of him why he ever stopped talking to you.
His mind raced with a million thoughts at once, visions of what life would have been like if he’d manned up and asked you out. If he’d decided to risk it all in high school and take you to prom, or if he’d asked you out when you went to university a couple hours drive away from the Naval Academy. He figured he probably would have married you, if given the chance to go back and do it again. Own a house with a big yard, a half a dozen kids running around, some just like him, with sandy blonde hair and deep blue eyes, and some just like you - a vision of beauty in his mind.
He snapped back to reality when he felt you wrap your arms around him, a wide smile spreading across your face. He hugged you firmly, not wanting to make his sudden desire to hold you close evident. For all he knew, you could be married with a family by this point - it wouldn’t be odd at all, not now in your early thirties. In fact, he felt like he was the odd one out compared to everyone he’d grown up around in Kentucky. Most of the people he’d gone to school with were parents to kids approaching third grade.
“It’s so good to see you!” you exclaimed cheerfully as you pulled back from Bob’s embrace, sporting a warm, friendly grin.
“Yeah, it’s great seeing you too. Wow, it’s uh…it’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
“Eight years, give or take.” You nodded quickly, shrugging the idea off as you met Bob’s cobalt blue eyes, finding it hard not to get yourself lost in them. He always did have the prettiest eyes you’d ever seen, framed perfectly now by silver wire framed glasses.
“How have you been?” He smiled as he guided you over towards the kitchen, grabbing a glass from the cupboard and turning to look at you, “You want some sweet tea?”
“I’d love some, thanks Bob,” you nodded, remembering that he preferred going by that now that he was older.
As Bob poured two glasses of his mom’s homemade sweet tea for each of you, your eyes wandered over him, taking in the sight before you. The last time you’d seen him, Bob still resembled the teenage boy you’d crushed on throughout high school, but now, standing in his place, was a man. He stood at a solid six foot one, his blonde hair neatly combed, and a more adult style pair of wire glasses adorning his face, as opposed to the thick, dark square frames he wore throughout the time you knew him.
“I’ve been good,” you nodded slowly as you sipped the cool, brown liquid, the notes of lemon, sugar and black tea dancing on your tongue, “How about you? I heard you’re stationed out west now?”
“Yeah, I was at Lemoore, which is further north in California, but now I’m at North Island, in Coronado. Just outside of San Diego, actually. Other side of the bay.”
“How do you like it there? Bet the weather’s great, like, all the time, isn’t it? Much better than what I get out in D.C.”
“You’re in D.C. now?”
“Yeah,” you nodded, smiling softly, “Never left after college.”
Bob listened empathetically as you filled him in on everything he’d missed in your life over the past eight years. As you spoke, he couldn’t help but feel his attention wavering, not because he wasn’t interested in what you had to say, but because he couldn’t help but envision all the things that could’ve happened had he been brave enough to ask you out earlier. He wanted to kick himself for not trying for you - he’d always been fond of you. The sheer thought of you asking about him, and coming back to Kentucky to see him when he came home was enough to make him think of how much he’d screwed up before.
You felt yourself rambling nervously as you talked to Bob, trying to avoid any awkward silence between the two of you. You were so relieved to have this moment with him - just to talk to him again. You heard he was single, and you knew you still had unresolved feelings for him so when your mom had told you about the homecoming barbecue that Mrs. Floyd was planning for him, you knew you had to make the drive home, just to see what could’ve been between you both, and to see if anything remained between you.
As the night carried on, you felt yourself falling further and further for Bob - and now, you were left wondering why you hadn’t been bold enough to ask him out before. Why now, when it was the least convenient for the two of you, had to be when you realized this. You lived on the complete opposite coasts from one another - a six hour flight spanning the United States between the two of you. Although, the more time spent with Bob that evening, the more you found yourself considering taking a transfer to your job’s California office. Los Angeles was a much more doable three hour drive to San Diego - you could manage driving three hours every few days to see him if you needed to.
By 9pm, the party had dwindled down to a few members of Bob’s family, his parents, and you - everyone else having turned in for the night or headed home earlier. You, however, were staying a couple of houses away at your parents’ home, and could manage to stay as long as Bob wanted you to. He looked around the party, and, upon realizing he wouldn’t be missed anymore if he disappeared, he took you by the hand playfully, leading you to the old tree at the back of the property.
Nestled in the tree sat the treehouse you’d spent so many hours in together as kids, looking completely unchanged from when you’d last seen it. Bob smiled as he started climbing up the makeshift ladder, looking back at you with a mischievous grin - one you hadn’t seen in him since you were children.
“You comin’?” he ribbed playfully as he swung himself up into the treehouse, reaching his hand down to offer you help.
You shook your head, laughing at how ridiculous you felt, but quickly climbed your way up the tree to join him. He helped you into the treehouse, smirking at you as he adjusted his glasses. The treehouse was still decorated the way you’d left it - old toys sitting out on the table, a small toy chest full of Nerf guns and playing cards, a couple of toy cars and action figures joining them. Bob picked one of the action figures up, laughing as he held it in his hands, as if all the memories of you two playing together came flooding back at once.
“I forgot about this place,” you mused softly, your voice barely a whisper against the backdrop of forgotten treasures.
Bob nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips as he regarded the toy with a mix of fondness and amusement.
"Yeah, my nieces and nephews use it I guess sometimes. Glad to see they've left Batman intact for me though," he remarked, lifting the action figure as if to emphasize its importance.
A nostalgic chuckle bubbled up within you as you recalled the shared adventures of your childhood. "Hey, I remember that one! Batman used to come in and rescue Barbie for me all the time."
A playful glint danced in Bob's eyes as he remembered those innocent days of make-believe. "And then you insisted that Batman had to kiss Barbie."
"Listen, Barbie wanted to thank him," you protested with a playful grin, memories of imaginative play flooding back with each word.
"I think you just watched too many romcoms," Bob teased, his voice laced with affectionate banter.
Shaking your head, you couldn't help but laugh at the playful exchange, the echoes of your shared history ringing through the air. But as your laughter subsided, you found yourself drawn once more to Bob's gaze, the warmth of familiarity mingling with the weight of unspoken questions.
"Do you ever think about what would have happened if we dated in high school?" you ventured, the words hanging in the air like a delicate thread connecting past and present.
"All the time, actually," Bob admitted, his tone tinged with a hint of vulnerability.
"I always figured I'd end up marrying you," you nodded, your cheeks flushing with a mixture of embarrassment and sincerity as you confessed the thought that had lingered in the depths of your mind for far too long.
The air seemed to crackle with tension as your words hung in the space between you, each syllable echoing with the weight of unspoken truths and long-held desires. Across from you, Bob's expression shifted, a kaleidoscope of emotions flickering across his features before settling into a mask of gentle surprise.
The soft glow of the evening sun cast golden hues upon the scene, lending an ethereal quality to the moment as you both grappled with the revelation that hung heavy in the air. For a heartbeat, the world around you seemed to stand still, as if holding its breath in anticipation of what would come next.
Bob's gaze softened, his cobalt eyes reflecting the vulnerability mirrored in your own. "I… I never knew you felt that way," he admitted, his voice a gentle murmur against the backdrop of fading daylight.
A rush of uncertainty washed over you, mingling with the warmth of raw honesty that spilled from your lips. "I think I just, pushed it away, you know? I didn’t want us to stop being friends over it or anything as kids." you confessed, your words a whispered confession carried on the breeze.
Silence enveloped you once more, punctuated only by the distant chirping of crickets and the rustle of leaves in the evening breeze. In the quiet of the moment, the weight of unspoken possibilities hung heavy between you, a delicate dance of hope and fear weaving its way through the air.
Then, with a soft exhale, Bob reached across the space between you, his hand finding yours with a gentle certainty that sent shivers cascading down your spine. "Maybe… maybe we should talk about this," he suggested, his voice tentative yet filled with a quiet resolve.
As his fingers intertwined with yours, you felt a surge of courage swell within your chest, buoyed by the warmth of his touch. With a nod, you met his gaze, the tension hanging in the air melting away as you closed the distance between the two of you, locking your lips with his in a gentle, tender kiss.
Time seemed to slow to a standstill as the world around you faded into oblivion, leaving only the two of you suspended in a moment of pure connection. His lips met yours with a softness that belied the depth of emotion coursing between you, igniting a spark that set your heart ablaze.
The sensation of his breath mingling with yours sent shivers cascading down your spine, each touch igniting a symphony of sensations that danced across your skin like a gentle breeze. In that fleeting instant, you lost yourself in the warmth of his embrace, the weight of the world falling away as you surrendered to the intoxicating pull of desire.
The soft murmur of the evening breeze whispered through the air, carrying with it the promise of a new beginning as you reveled in the sweetness of the moment. His arms enveloped you in a tender embrace, pulling you closer until there was no space left between your bodies, only the shared warmth of your intertwined souls.
For a heartbeat, the world ceased to exist beyond the two of you, each touch a testament to the depth of feeling that bound you together. In the embrace of his arms, you found solace, a sanctuary amidst the chaos of life's uncertainties. As you finally pulled away, the ghost of his touch lingered on your lips, a lingering reminder of the passion that pulsed between you.
Bob’s cheeks flushed bright red, and he began to stutter as he spoke, a trait he’d long grown out of. “I, uh, I…um, that was…something,” he managed to spit out before beginning to ramble about how much he enjoyed kissing you.
“Bob,” you began, laughing softly as your hand gently rested on his cheek.
“Mhmm?”
“Shut up and kiss me again.”

Everyone knows that Daemon Targaryen is crazy about his niece! Everyone can see that!
But is he looking at her right now? Noooo, he's looking at another flower that just appeared within the walls of this castle. Young Y/n Hightower walked around the courtyard and didn't know where to put herself. Alicent was standing next to the king, and the girl was not well acquainted with Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra had changed a lot, and she didn't want to get in her face.
Daemon watched the girl's tossing carefully, he wasn't listening to what his brother was telling him. He wanted to laugh heartily, watching the sweet and funny Y/n. She had always been like that. He remembered that. She hid behind her older sister, acting quiet and demure. But it seemed to Daemon that there was more to it than that. The girl was clearly hiding something inside herself.
"The weather is wonderful today," Daemon decided to walk over and speak to Y/n.
"Oh my prince!" she perked up "You're right, it is very warm today and I'm glad of it."
"Do you like warm weather?" The man walked past her, sitting down at the table and taking a goblet of wine in his hands.
"I love it! When the cold weather comes, I feel like I'm withering like flowers in a royal garden. I get so sad." the girl said and took the goblet of wine as well.
Daemon liked the way she spoke. Easy and casual. No playfulness, no fear, no vulgarity. Calm, outgoing, smiling. Daemon wondered how Otto could have such a beautiful daughter. The man wondered, if they married and had a daughter, was she just like her mum, or just like her dad?
Daemon grinned to himself again. He thinks like a fourteen-year-old boy who has fallen in love with the first girl .
The lords who saw the young Lady Hightower and Prince Daemon chatting involuntarily cast a glance at Princess Rhaenyra, who sat off to the side, bored. She occasionally cast her glance at her uncle, but her face expressed nothing.
Tumblr media
"Look Daemon, it's the irises, they're so amazing," the girl ran around the garden dragging the prince behind her.
Daemon only smiled and followed the little lady.
"Does my lady like flowers? Which ones do you like best?" asked Daemon squatting down next to the girl.
"I like n/f," replied Y/n simply and quickly.
They moved over to a tree and sat under its crowns. Y/n told the prince about her day, occasionally distracted by the maids passing by. Damon only smiled.
"kepus!" came a voice from somewhere in the distance.
Princess Rhaenyra was approaching the pair. With a slightly annoyed mood. She hadn't reacted to her uncle's attitude towards the younger Lady Hightower, because she knew he would soon get bored of her. But it had been a week now, and her uncle had not visited her once.
"Princess," the Lady immediately stood up and bowed her head.
"Lady Hightower, shouldn't you be with the queen and serving her?" Rhaenyra immediately decided to point out the girl's place, for her place was next to traitors and liars.
Lady Y/n was dumbfounded at such a harsh behaviour of the princess, but what the girl definitely did not like was people who stick their noses where they are not asked. Clenching her fists, Y/n grinned:
"Princess, I'm not a servant. My sister has enough of them. My job is to enjoy my life and look for a potential suitor," the lady replied.
Rhaenyra blushed, coughed and looked at her uncle. There's that dreamy look again, but he's not looking at her, he's looking at the girl who first bared her teeth.
"Ao didn't visit nyke, uncle. Gōntan mirros massigon? ao promised nyke iā kipagon va se zaldrīzoti!" Rhaenyra pouted, feigning innocence (You didn't visit me uncle. Has something happened? You promised me a ride on the dragons!)
"Iksan mirrī busy bisa week. Ivestragī's gaomagon ziry another jēda, Rhaenyra," the man replied (I'm a bit busy this week. Let's do it another time Rhaenyra).
Rhaenyra was a little taken aback. She was about to hit the young Lady Hightower with her shoulder, but surprisingly the girl managed to dodge, causing Rhaenyra to trip over the hem of her dress. She didn't fall, but her ears lit up even more with shame.
"My lady, would you care to dine with me?" asked Daemon.
"My pleasure!" pronounced Y/n.
They began to walk slowly towards the castle, they were in no hurry, they had all the time in the world.
"You know Daemon, I dream of riding a dragon with you too," the girl said quietly, she turned to the measuring man and smiled at him, walking forwards.
Damon smiled even wider.
Tumblr media
Y/n didn't realise how she'd ended up in that position.
She and Daemon had just decided to read a book about the Ancient Kings.
It all started when Daemon decided to play a prank and as soon as the book started to get interesting he just slammed it shut and lifted it up, and of course Y/n tried to get it. She jumped up so hard and pushed off Daemon's arm that he didn't keep his balance and fell off the chair. And Lady found herself in his lap.
"Gotcha!" exclaimed the girl joyfully, and made herself comfortable on his lap. "You've thrown me off my reading, now I won't be able to find the moment!" whimpered Y/n and turned away from Daemon, showing her back.
"Please forgive me, but you were so sweet, lady, I just couldn't help myself," Daemon frivolously hugged the girl from behind and rested his forehead on her shoulder.
"I wonder if there's ever been one king who loved his wife so much that he was willing to die for her? Reading all these stories, no one narrates the relationship of the royal consorts. And if they do, it's cheating, strife and jealousy. It's not even pleasant to read," the girl turned the page.
"I wish I could use my brother as an example, but..." Daemon rested his chin on the lady's shoulder.
"Yes.... if you were king, who would you want to choose as your wife?" the girl asked.
"What is it, little flower? You want to be my wife," smirked the man.
"Maybe. But then I'd want to be the only woman in your life. And if I found out you kept going to Silk Street...but I'd treat you to manhood and turn the brothel into a bloodbath," the girl smiled and turned to the surprised man.
All Daemon could do was close and open his mouth.
"Oh, what am I...so what's up with Aegon the Conqueror?" the girl changed the subject and sat down on the soft sofa next to the man.
Tumblr media
And so for a month Prince Daemon and Lady Y/n danced between each other. It was already clear to the whole council and the king that the prince was very warm to the girl. So rumours of the wedding had already spread far beyond the Royal Lands.
Y/n walked around in high spirits as everything she had planned began to come true.
"Sister!" came Alicent's voice from the empty corridor.
"My queen," the lady bowed respectfully, preparing to listen to a lecture from her older sister.
"The rumours are growing. You must not see Prince Daemon. Father is furious, I'm amazed that he's holding back from screaming at you," The queen equalled her sister and they walked further down the corridor.
"He yells all the time, I'm getting tired of listening to him. And what if it's Daemon, he's a prince!" the girl resented.
"But his reputation," fretted Alicent.
"I don't care. I hear King Viserys is getting worse. Who knows what might happen," Lady Y/n sniggered and walked on.
"What?" The queen stopped.
"Viserys has not yet appointed Rhaenyra as his successor. Father is doing a good job, if this continues, Daemon will be king as a sibling. The council may be outraged, but he will have a short conversation with them," Y/n continued to explain.
"You...want to be queen?... "Alicent looked at her sister with fear.
"Why not? I'll just combine my desire to be queen and my desire to have the right man by my side. It's not all about you being on top of things," Y/n continued walking, ignoring her sister.
Alicent now understood why her father didn't scold his youngest daughter, she was so much like him. Cunning and secretive. Alicent became even more worried, she no longer knew the girl who was walking down the corridor. It wasn't her sister.
Tumblr media
"What do you mean?" turned sharply to her faithful maid Y/n.
"They were seen in the brothel. Rumours have already spread through the castle and the prince has been dragged before the king, my lady" Tala looked worriedly at her mistress, so gentle yet strong.
"Sir Conyn is finding out the circumstances?" asked the lady turning away from the girl.
"Yes, he went there as soon as we heard. They were in the brothel, but it's not known if they were asleep or not," Tala continued her explanation.
"He can't, can he? I'm...boring him so much..." Y/n settled into a chair next to the fireplace.
"My lady...rumours of his love for the princess have been floating around the castle for a long time. It was said that he was obsessed with blood purity and that he wanted to have a 'pure' child," Tala said.
Lady Hightower sat holding back tears, then stood up.
"I'll go and hear what's going on over there," Tala didn't follow her Mistress, only bowed her head.
Her heart pounded frantically, the closer she got to the throne room, the more clearly the voices of the enraged king and prince could be heard. There were no guards and the door was slightly ajar, you could see the king pinning the prince to the ground and shouting some questions.
"Wed her to me?" came Daemon's voice.
"Who?" gasped Viserys, hoping his brother would say the name of the younger Lady Hightower.
"Rhaenyra...Wed her to me," Daemon said.
Y/n stepped away from the door. Breathing hard, her heart began to pound even harder.
"I thought so," came the princess's voice from the shadows, and then she stepped into the light.
"How long have you been standing here?" Lady Hightower didn't dare look into the princess's eyes; she didn't want to see arrogance and self-righteousness.
"Since the beginning. Just as I thought, my uncle doesn't care about you ladies, he will choose me. As the heiress to the throne, as the one that will give him children of pure blood," her voice was quiet but cutting at the deep wounds of her heart.
"Princess...You cried out about never marrying and that you didn't want to bear a child because otherwise you would be treated like an animal. What has changed?" Y/n shifted her tearful eyes to Rhaenyra.
Rhaenyra was once again taken aback. She had said those words at every corner, that she didn't want to be a 'laying hen', she wanted freedom. She looked into Lady Y/n's cold eyes and realised that she had changed herself for the sake of defeating her 'rival'.
The doors of the throne room opened. Guards dragged Daemon out. The man glanced at the two girls and his gaze darted to Y/n, but she paid no attention to him. She turned and walked further down the corridor.
"Y/n!" shouted Daemon, but the girl didn't turn around. He shouted once more, but was faced with silence and emptiness.
Daemon felt like he had crossed the line. Crossed it in everything. He looked at his niece, who was looking at him hopefully, but he only grinned and let himself be led away by the guards.
When he left King's Landing, Rhaenyra saw him off from afar. But he did not see the queen of his dreams.
And two moons later, the young Y/n Hightower left King's Landing, returning to Old Town.

I Am Your Dad But Also Not?
[DPxDC Week 2023 Day 7: Clockwork // Accidental Baby Acquisition // Misunderstanding]
• In which, Danny is Richard Grayson from an alternate universe (the dna matches even if all the names and history don’t)
“Papa, hold me!” The words were Danny’s only warning before the bundle of flying child plowed into him. He spun with the momentum, hands quickly gripping the little girl so she didn’t go tumbling away.
Despite her sure and enthusiastic greeting, she was not in fact Danny’s child. Or maybe she is now? He’s starting to get really confused. Apparently he looks and feels like her dad since she’s so clearly attached herself to him. Clockwork’s cryptic smiling is not helpful so he takes his newly acquired magical toddler and leaves.
At least he’s assuming her powers are magic or something. The last time he tried asking something that “obviously papa knows already” she got a look not dissimilar to a sad baby seal. Sad baby seals are not something Danny can resist evidently.
So, asking Clockwork is out and asking the child in question is out. Danny is running out of options and he has half a mind to just assume she’s his child from the future.
Luckily Danny is a genius, maybe not literally but his point still stands.
His idea? Brilliant.
Implementation? Flawless.
Hotel? Trivago.
The little one is outgoing enough that when Danny prompts her to introduce herself to Sam and Tucker (visiting on holiday), she goes off into a rambling of questions and information without even pausing for anyone to answer her questions.
That’s how they learn that she’s Mar’i Grayson and she lives in Blüdhaven most of the time, except when her Papa and Mama go on trips, then she’s stays with Grandpa Alfie and Grandpa B and Uncle Damian, but also sometimes Uncle Damian comes to stay with her and Mama and Papa because he sometimes gets into disagreements with Grandpa B.
She says disagreements in such a careful and proud way that Danny makes sure Sam and Tucker compliment her on her awesome vocabulary.
That just leaves them with the problem of getting Mar’i back to her own home dimension and parents, who are probably worried sick by her disappearance.
Danny really really hopes that Mar’i’s actual dad and mom have such an abnormal life that they might be able to find the infinite realms because trying to find her exact universe from his side of things without Clockwork’s help will be nigh on impossible
He really hopes she’ll recognize her real dad. Danny is not equipped for parenthood.
Or at least not equipped for a toddler. He was able to skip the whole toddler part with Ellie.
Speaking of Ellie and her horrible timing, she has chosen this exact time to get back from her grand adventure aka traveling the worlds and she proceeds to laugh so hard she can’t even stay on her feet. She resorts to floating along behind Danny and Mar’i cackling and occasionally heaving non great gasps of air only to fall back into the laughing cycle once more.
Danny’s shooing motions are ineffective and he’s not about to show a five-year-old the violence or language necessary to get Ellie to go away.
When she finally does stop laughing, she starts snapping pictures at every angle she can imagine. Which is a lot given that she’s a half ghost like Danny. She has yet to let her feet touch the ground but that doesn’t bother Mar’i who seems to have similar ideas about gravity. Her own feet rarely touching the floor as soon as she realized that beings work differently in the zone.
~•~
In the end Danny can only keep the ruse of fatherhood up for a couple of days. Mar’i is no fool even if she is five. She figures him out and she’s not even mad when he explains that he didn’t want her to be scared if she knew she was alone with strangers in a new place like this. Her magnanimous forgiveness is one of the best things Danny has ever experienced. He understands why people have kids now.
At the end of a week with no news from Clockwork and an increasingly homesick Mar’i, Danny takes her back to Clockwork’s tower to demand some action himself or at least get some ridiculous riddle to keep him and Mar’i occupied until the “time is right.”
Clockwork’s smile upon their arrival is bordering on deranged in Danny’s eyes and he hugs Mar’i closer as though to protect her from Time’s hands.
“It is time,” the god says and bangs his staff on the metal flooring of the tower.
Before Danny can demand an answer about that, a portal opens beneath him and both he and Mar’i go tumbling through.
YOOOO by my time, I am not late on any of these prompts (even though they are a lot shorter and more vague than I’d like. Can’t help it with the thumbs being the way they are). But like legit I am proud of myself. Deadlines are a thing I struggle with especially when it comes to writing. But I’m finally getting better with it. Middle school and high school me would both be crying tears of joy rn.
I love that we started with found family fluff and ended with it. Danny and Mar’i are going to have a very lovely and entertaining adventure together. It’ll be great.

"Jason, would you please take your kid this weekend. Jude misses you."
"You know I cant."
"Jason please."
"It's dangerous."
That was the last conversation you had with Jason before he went no contact. A phone call where you asked him to be in his daughter's life. Your daughters life.
You had made countless calls to Roy, trying to see if he had any contact with Jason. Alas, he told you no.
Jason's family had been all over when you told them, Bruce even bought you an apartment that was closer to the Manor since you wouldn't move in with them. He always tried to be helpful. They all did, but Judith isn't their child. She's yours. They shouldn't have to take care of her where Jason was lacking.
When you told him you were pregnant, he had promised to always be there. But promises are just words.
Around the time of your due date, he had been doubting if this was a good idea. He was doubting if having your daughter was a good idea. After Judith was brought home, you and Jason started having fights, fights that ultimately led him to move out. He was still present in her life after that. When she was around three, his visits became spotty. You knew about his work as Red Hood, so you understood.
When he missed her birthday party and then didn't show up on her actual birthday, was when you went ballistic. You called him up and screamed your throat raw.
Judith never once complained. Well, at first, she gave out the occasional, "Where's daddy?" "Can we see daddy?" "I miss daddy." And you would have to try and explain as to why she couldn't see him. Even though you yourself didn't understand.
But she was usually quiet about it, never once questioning his actions. She loved her father, no matter if he didn't love her.
×
"Momma." Judith loudly whispered, trying to wake you up.
"Mmm, yes, sweetheart?" You groaned, furrowing your head into your pillow.
"Breakfast!" She excitedly asked of you, climbing up onto you.
"What d'you want?" You croaked, rubbing at your eyes.
"Pancake!"
"Alright.."
Judith let out a squeal as you picked her up and carried her into the kitchen, setting her down at the breakfast bar. You reached into your cabinets and pulled out the needed supplies, then grabbed for the pancake mix and began making the batter.
A knock on the door caused you to stop mixing. Both you and Judith sent a look over to where the front door was.
"Stay right there." You told her, walking over to the door and looking out of the peephole. Dick's face is what greeted you, his dark hair falling in his face, causing him to push it away.
"Dick?" You opened the door. The older man just gave you a big smile and a hug. "Hello, Y/N!"
"Hey..."
"Can I come in?"
"Of course, I'm making breakfast."
You moved to the side so that he could walk in. Immediately, he walked into your kitchen, sneaking up behind Judith and putting his hands over her eyes.
"Guess who.." He sang out.
"Uncle Dick!" She yelled.
"Good job, Judy Jayne!" He chuckled, leaning in and pressing a kiss to the back of her head. "What are we having?"
"Panc-"
"Pancakes!" Judith yelled, interrupting you. "Pink ones!"
"Since when did we choose pink?" You asked, going back to stirring the batter.
"They always have to be pink," Dick defended "and have glitter on them.
"Ohh, momma do we have glitter?" Judith asked.
"We should have some left over." You responded, talking about the edible glitter that she had on her birthday cake last year.
"Yay!" Dick and Judith smiled together.
"Will you be joining us Dick?" You asked, putting food dye in the batter.
Judith stared up at the man with a wide smile, begging him to say yes. He cast a sorry look down at her, "I can't, I've got to get to work."
"Aww." Judith pouted. The both of you knew that she would be over it in two seconds.
"So why stop by?" You questioned, setting down the raspberries that were in your hand and looking at Dick.
"Well...we need to talk."
Wordlessly, you walked back out of the kitchen, Dick following right behind you.
"Whats up?"
Dick sent you an anxious look before hesitantly speaking, "Um, Jason's back in Gotham..."
You stared up at him, eyes wide for a few seconds before your face returned to expressionless.
"Very well then." You spoke. "Who cares?"

☆ for blurb night requests; Jake's nieces and nephews calling Ace aunt for the first time
frat!jake seresin x f!reader
wc: 632
warning(s): 18+, fem!reader, no y/n (reader goes by nickname ace)
catch up with jake and ace here!
a/n: decided to write a lil bit for these two before bed, it's missing jake and ace hours (oh my babies...) maybe this will get me to continue writing some bradley and clover too….
»»————- ♠︎ ————-««
The familiar feeling of love and pride swells through Jake’s veins as he watches you with his nieces and nephews. This wasn’t the first time you’ve come home with him, yet he still felt the same excitement that came over him every time you visited.
There was always that small feeling of disbelief, almost like he couldn’t believe that you were real. That you chose him and his family to give you the love you deserved and to keep you safe. He always thought there would be a day where you would wake up and realize maybe he wasn’t what you wanted. But that day never came and here you were still as in love with him as ever.
Jake laughs as he watches you take his youngest nephew and lift him off the ground, spinning him in a circle before putting him back down. The little boy joyously giggles, demanding another round of “spins” with grabby hands.
You comply with a smile and lower down to the boy’s height before sweeping him off his feet and whirling him around once more.
His nephew’s laughter mixes with your own as you put him back on his feet and ruffle his hair.
A feeling that’s not unfamiliar to him stirs inside of Jake at the sight of you suddenly being surrounded by two of his younger nieces and nephew. All of them clamor over with excited chatters neither of you could understand.
You shake your head with a smile and exasperated eyes as you look at Jake who already has his gaze set on you.
His smile is just as wide, if not wider than yours, as he walks over with his hands on his hips. “Alright, alright, what’s going on here?”
His niece, Rebecca, reaches for her Uncle Jake who swiftly lifts her in his arms. “We want Auntie Ace to give us some spins!” The little girl’s exclamation is paired with her throwing her arms up in the air.
“Yeah, Auntie Ace, spin! Spin! Spin!” His nephews and Rebecca’s sister begin chanting over and over.
Jake sees the look on your face just as the words fall from the kid’s mouths. You’ve come home with Jake and met his nieces and nephews twice before then, only talking with them occasionally when they were on FaceTime with Jake. This was the first time they have ever called you “Auntie.”
Your eyes are slightly glassy as you gaze lovingly at the little kids around you before locking eyes with Jake and Rebecca who was already reaching for you. You take her into your arms with ease, not once breaking eye contact with Jake.
“Yeah, Auntie Ace, give ‘em some spins,” he tells you endearingly. The words fall easily from his lips, just as it did from the little ones’.
You smile, wholeheartedly with eyes filled with stars for all of Jake’s little nieces and nephews. Auntie Ace–you have never felt so loved in your life. Brushing a few of Rebecca’s stray strands of hair from her face, you give her a kiss on the cheek. “Oh, alright. Line up, kiddos, everyone’s getting two spins each.”
There’s an eruption of cheers, making you laugh once more with the little girl in your arms.
Jake steps back, taking in the scene in front of him. For a moment, he’s able to imagine you, the love of his life with smaller loves, just like these. Two or three little ones that were half of you and half of him running around a yard with a white picket fence. He knew it was a little early for the thoughts that came to his mind but there was no doubt that he was ready to commit to it all.
For now, he admired your new title. Uncle Jake and Auntie Ace. He loved the sound of that.

Are there any silly or interesting Itachi/Sasuke/other character headcanons you've always wanted to share?
Some of these will be Modern-AUish, some canon compliant, and some Akatsuki AU.
Whenever Sasuke sees something that's interesting to (only) him as a child he rushes to Itachi to share it. Itachi is his go-to person whenever he wants to share something. Itachi sometimes lets Sasuke's excitement slide because he's too busy/too tired, and little Sasuke is infuriated. He expresses his fury in form of stomping his feet, walking around the house with a pout. He keeps yelling in front of Itachi's room that no one loves him and genuinely looks sad. No one understands why Sasuke is acting so weird until Itachi picks on it and gives Sasuke some treat. It's super easy to please him.
Itachi is a bad cook. Sasuke is even worse. That's why whenever their parents aren't home, Itachi cooks and Sasuke waits instead of helping him. One time when Sasuke "helped", it almost invited disaster. Itachi swore to never let Sasuke in since then. Sasuke is super salty because what he did at 12 shouldn't be held against him, right? Itachi won't listen. Their parents have no idea about it. So, whenever Itachi cooks something in his millionth attempt, certain that he made the dish perfect, Sasuke always shoots him down with "I've had better". Though later at night he sneaks into the kitchen to finish the rest, because why not.
Sasuke likes to hang out with Madara, but he's always been scared of the old man. Sasuke says he looks good only when he's not speaking or smiling. He always hides behind Itachi whenever Madara is visiting them. Itachi often uses it against Sasuke when he won't let him finish his work. "Go to sleep, Sasuke, or Madara uncle will come." It's an inside joke and Madara is definitely not pleased because he loves kids. He doesn't want to be the bad guy in Sasuke's eyes.
Both the brothers love to go on long cycle rides, especially in summers.
Naruto and Sasuke have a lot of sleepovers. Whenever Sasuke has to go to Naruto's house, Itachi drops him there. And when Naruto has to come to Sasuke's house, they want Itachi to tell them horror stories. Not overly keen on scaring them both, he tries to evade, but Naruto wouldn't listen. To set the mood, all the lights are kept off, and as soon as Itachi starts, Naruto hides himself in covers, and Sasuke rolls his eyes. Although later at night neither Naruto nor Sasuke want to go out alone to pee. Sasuke is just as scared as Naruto. He just doesn't want to show.
Minato and Kushina love both the brothers. Because of them their families are super close as well. Occasionally, Minato would take all the three kids to some other city/fun place, and come home super exhausted, because Naruto and Sasuke are a menace.
When they're kids, and Mikoto and Fugaku have to leave for a few hours, Kakashi and Yamato have to babysit them. Kakashi hates it because he'd rather be reading his books, but Yamato loves spending time with them. He loves to spoil both the kids. Sasuke just ends up pulling Yamato's hair and also tries to pull Kakashi's mask. But he can't.
Itachi has a Danzo plushie, decorated with red marks and is beaten down badly as if Itachi likes to punch it every time he's mad. Mikoto is horrified because since when her sweet child become this violent. Fugaku gives Itachi a treat when he learns this. Sasuke just likes to pull Danzo plushie's ears because they're fun to him.
Sasuke hates Shisui and Izumi at home. They steal the time he can spend with his nii-san. But when Itachi is not home, Shisui takes Sasuke with him and they train and Shisui deliberately loses his matches. Sasuke tells everything to Itachi with glee that he defeated Shisui when they trained together. Sasuke grudgingly admits to himself only that he likes spending time with Shisui too, but he won't ever feed Shisui's ego, because his nii-san is still the best.
Kisame is another person Sasuke is scared of. But he gets to like him. If anything, if ever Sasuke is mad at his brother, Kisame sides with Sasuke, and tells his brother how terrible of a big brother Itachi is. One day, Sasuke spent exactly 30 minutes complaining about Itachi to Kisame. And obviously, Kisame lectured Itachi that evening.
Being Itachi's little brother, Sasuke is the unofficial member of the Akatsuki. He has his own tiny Akatsuki robe. He doesn't understand why he doesn't get "dangerous" missions like his brother does. They tell him he's the most important person in the Akatsuki, so he must get special treatment. They keep all the gory shit out of his knowledge.
Sasuke really, really dislikes Kakuzu. He also finds Hidan weird. He wants to protect his brother from Deidara because Deidara just seems like he's obsessed with his brother. Itachi must be protected from him.
The people Sasuke loves in the Akatsuki after his brother are Konan and Sasori. Sasori makes puppets/toys for him (without all the blood and stuff) and gifts them to Sasuke. Konan is like a mom to him. In Itachi's absence she takes care of Sasuke.

Adam warlock x fem!reader
Summary: You were a guardian of the galaxy but when your team broke up you decided to stay in Knowhere attending to other types of tasks. Now Adam, Kraglin, Groot, Cosmo, Phyla, and Rocket are part of the new team. And while you help with Nebula and Drax to take care of the children, Adam has an eye on you.
Warnings: none
Word count: 3k
⋘ 𝑙𝑜𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑎… ⋙
Since you left the guardians things had changed a lot. Although, well, it couldn't be said that you really "left" the guardians because you were still working in Knowhere, only now you were doing less dangerous missions. Now you were in charge of taking care of the rescued children and some animals as well. Your specialty was teaching them basic things like reading, writing, etc. Thanks to that, you were now nicknamed "Knohere's teacher" and you could only laugh sweetly when you heard it.
But you weren't the only one who helped with the care of the children, occasionally Drax and Nebula also gave you a hand, but you soon discovered that the children adored you more than the other two, maybe it was because you had more patience or instinct Motherly, you weren't sure. You still remember that time a girl approached you happily saying something that makes you smile to this day.
(flashback)
You left your room always well ordered and full of several different species of plants that you watered daily. Even though you no longer went on missions with the team, you still wore your special suit because it was comfortable and beautiful. You walked out the door tying your hair into a messy bun ready to greet the kids and teach them something new today. You were reunited with Drax and Nebula when a girl with close-cropped platinum hair and purple eyes approached smiling with a notebook in hand.
"Well?, are you ready to learn about animals today, Ulani?"-Drax said
The girl in response began to jump happily while nodding her head fervently.
"Good, Come with me and Drax so we can teach you.."-Nebula said as she took Ulani's delicate hand to gently drag her towards a room, but the girl stood stoically in her place as if she was bolted to the ground and looked at them with a frown.
"I don't wanna"
Nebula was puzzled looking at Drax as if asking for an explanation. He crouched down to be at the height of the little girl.
"What's wrong? Don't you want to come with Uncle Drax and Aunt Nebula?"
Little Ulani shook her head with a pout without breaking eye contact and then to your surprise she pointed a chubby finger at you.
"I want her to teach me"
Now Ulani was looking at you with those beautiful little purple eyes shining with enthusiasm while a big smile returned to her face. Nebula crossed her arms in confusion as Drax patiently asked why she wanted to study with you.
"Because she has a nice smile and she always draws pictures for me"
you couldn't help but cover your mouth to hide your laughter as you grabbed the girl by the hand and took her with you to study.
(end of flashback)
This is how all the children of Knowhere, especially Ulani, would visit you in your room so that you could teach them numbers, colors and other things that seemed to be fun and useful to them. Meanwhile, the new guardians kept traveling through space fighting aliens and all that stuff you used to do. Of course, the newest member that got everyone's attention was Adam, especially your attention. Several times when they returned from missions and went to work on Knowhere, you had noticed how Adam would look at you while you played teacher. Even sometimes when he stared at you and you noticed it and turned to see him, he quickly turned his head and looked in another direction pretending that nothing had happened.
You were heading towards some tables and chairs that were outside the Knowhere dining room with your bag with everything you needed: pencils, papers, etc. There were already four excited children waiting for you and clearly among them was Ulani. You had grown fond of the girl and she with you. She was the most energetic of all the kids you taught and was always the first to ask when she didn't understand something.
"Hello miss (y/n), we are ready!"
you smiled at such a cordial welcome and sat down in the chair next to them ready to teach them how to write. You took out a couple of papers and several pencils for them while you dictated a few simple words. They obeyed you, paying attention and copying the words in big, messy letters. While you was reading what they had written and correcting them, a somewhat deafening noise accompanied by a fresh blizzard that made the papers fly was present. Out of the corner of your eye you saw how the guardians' ship landed near you and Captain Rocket and the others came down from it. They got out and people came up to them surrounding them and cheering like they were rock stars. They was always received like this and it seemed that the mission was successful. Rocket thanked and retired to his room drinking from a glass with a straw, the others stayed greeting the people of Knowhere. You smiled admiring them from afar. Suddenly you couldn't help but see Adam, he was greeting an old woman listening to her praise while he gently held her hands, you tilted your head a little and an "aww" escaped your lips without even thinking.
Ulani noticed your sigh and raised her head from the paper to look at you. You had lost sight and smiled like a fool. The intrigued little girl followed your gaze and noticed that you were looking at the sovereign.
"They're amazing, don't you think?"
You shook your head in confusion with raised eyebrows looking at her.
"What do you say, little one?"
Ulani pointed to where the guardians were. "They, are the best warriors in the galaxy, especially that tall golden boy"
Your smile became small while Ulani smiled, it seemed that the girl knew how to hit the nail on the head or she just couldn't imagine that you had some kind of crush on Adam. You blushed, muttering a vague statement, you felt ashamed for having been caught red-handed. But just like that, you looked at Adam again only to find his gaze fixed on yours, now he was looking at you with a tender smile. You felt your ears redden and you smiled nervously greeting him with one hand, he returned the gesture.
When the class ended and the dictations were corrected and scored, you announced that the next class you were going to read them a story so they would learn to read. They squealed with excitement while you laughed in amusement. So much fuss caused the sovereign looked at you smiling delighted. You collected your things while you said goodbye to the children with a kiss on their foreheads. Adam put what he was doing aside and turned to you. You put your backpack on your shoulder and you were going to go to your room when you saw him approach you with a happy step, you felt butterflies in your stomach.
"Greetings (y/n), how are you today?"
Adam hugged you leaving you speechless, he always used to hug people including you but every time he did it you felt a roller coaster in your stomach, of course he didn't know
"Hello Adam, I'm very well thank you. In fact I just finished a class with the children"
"Yeah, I saw you guys. It looked like fun"
Thousands of thoughts passed through Adam's head and they were all about you. The sovereign couldn't stop thinking of you every time he went on a mission and when everything became dangerous and they were at risk of being seriously injured, he thought of you, and your sweet face filling his mind comforted him and gave him strength to continue. Go ahead and tell himself that he would finish the mission so he could see you again. And now seeing you educate the children his heart melted, your patience and the love you gave to those kids made him feel things in his stomach, he remembered that someone had told him what that was called… butterflies? Yes, that was it, he felt butterflies and he couldn't help it.
"The effort he puts into the education of these children is beautiful"
The words came out of Adam's mouth like a torrent, he didn't want to say them but they escaped. You looked at him surprised, not really knowing how to react. When he realized it, he looked down with regret and blushed, placing his hands behind his back and kicking an imaginary stone with his foot like a child would. At this behavior you giggled
"Thank you so much Adam, it's nice that you say that"
Now you looked down and they both blushed like two college teenagers. Why did you behave in such a foolish way when you were around him? Couldn't you act like a normal person? And why did he have to look at you with puppy dog eyes all the time? He was about to say something when a scream interrupted him.
"Adam come here! the roof of a house fell again!"
It was Kraglin, Adam looked at me as if apologizing while you just nodded smiling. He floated away and you went back to your room with your pulse racing.
🍀💮🍀💮
The next day you woke up and remembered that you would read something to the children today, so you grabbed a children's book from a shelf, "Little Red Riding Hood". You were sure that the children would find that story curious. You smiled and left your room smiling with the book under your arm and your backpack hanging from your shoulder. You saw out of the corner of your eye that Adam was helping Rocket with some boxes. He looked at you and greeted you, you greeted him back and kept walking. Adam felt in the clouds every time he saw your eyes, that's why with a lost look he didn't realize that he had a box in front of his feet and when he wanted to take a step forward he tripped and fell with his red cape throwing on his face ahead and covering his head. You stopped, startled by the noise when you saw Adam lying on the floor and covered your mouth laughing in embarrassment. Rocket who was next to Adam did it too, but less subtle.
"HAHAAH, what's wrong Adam, did you want to kiss the ground?-Rocket exclaimed throwing his head back while slapping his knee.
Adam stood up quickly as he pushed the cloak away from his face with a flushed face as he watched you walk away shaking your head and smiling, surely now you thought he was a fool. You went to the usual place and you met your faithful student and two other children.
"Hi miss (y/n)! They are Ciro and Eber, they are my friends. I told them to come to hear the story!"
The two boys seemed more shy than their eloquent friend but they smiled at me with kindness and devotion. You greeted them gently and began to tell the story. You stood next to them so they could admire the drawings on the pages and continue reading with you.
"Once upon a time there was a sweet girl who loved her mother and grandmother very much. He helped them in everything he could and since he was so good on his birthday his grandmother gave him a red hood. Because she liked it so much and went with her everywhere, soon everyone started calling her Little Red Riding Hood."
you would read and point to the images, they would pay attention to you with eyes wide open. You never considered yourself a good storyteller, to tell you the truth, you didn't like your voice, but these kids seemed to like it. As you were turning the pages, you were pointing to the words so that they could repeat them slowly. You emphasized each letter and separated them into syllables to make it easier. Also, if they didn't understand something or didn't know what was mentioned in the book, you patiently explained it to them. Adam from afar looked at you curious and enthusiastic again, when he had finished his work (and after some reproaches from Rocket) the sovereign came a little closer to where you were to better listen to what you were saying.
"...The wolf sent Little Red Riding Hood the longest way and arrived before her at granny's house. So she pretended to be the little girl and knocked on the door. Although what he did not know is that a hunter had seen him arrive. "Who is it?", answered the grandmother "It's me, Little Red Riding Hood," said the wolf. "How good my daughter. come on, come on" The wolf entered, pounced on the granny and ate her in one bite. She put on her nightgown and got into bed to wait for Little Red Riding Hood to arrive."
A gasp came out of the mouths of the little ones who looked at the book with surprise, you smiled delighted by their attention. Adam seemed surprised and amused as well.
"..When Little Red Riding Hood entered, she found Granny different, although she didn't quite know why. "Grandma, what big eyes you have!". "Yes, they are to see you better, my daughter". "Grandma, what big ears you have!". "Of course, they are to hear you better". "But granny, what bigger teeth you have!". "They are for eat you better!!" As soon as he said this, the wolf pounced on Little Red Riding Hood and ate her too. His stomach was so full that the wolf fell asleep"
With each part of the body that Little Red Riding Hood named, you pointed to the eyes, ears and mouths of the little ones who laughed with amusement. But when the part came where the wolf ate Little Red Riding Hood, you growled as if you were the animal from the story and you began to tickle them and the children kicked their feet laughing happily. Adam also chuckled softly with a tender look. Ulani, Ciro and Eber were impressed by the story and above all by the way you told it, you gesticulated a lot and you knew how to interpret each emotion as if you were a theater actress. Suddenly the youngest of the children became serious and with a trembling voice said
"I don't think I like this story, the wolf is very mean"
You looked at him like a loving mother and caressed his cheek
"But don't be sad, the story isn't over yet"
This is how you reached the end of the story when the hunter found the wolf and filled its belly with stones, throwing it into the river, thus saving Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother. The children clapped happily and cheered, while you laughed lovingly. And again you promised them another story for the next morning, since it seemed that they adored it. You went back to pick up your things and Adam came over to help you.
"What a sweet voice you have to tell stories…"
You were surprised by his presence so close and his words charged with love that you awkwardly dropped the book you had in your hand. You and Adam reached under the table to pick it up when your hand accidentally touched his. They stared at each other for a few seconds until you looked away feeling your cheeks burn. You got up from under the table but not before Adam covered the edge of the table with his big hand so you wouldn't hit your head, he smiled innocently at you and said "careful". You thanked him, still blushing, and brushed an unruly lock away from your face, placing it nervously behind your ear.
"It seems that the children love that you read them stories…and I do too"
This last he said in a low voice, hesitating whether to confess it or not. You were getting redder, was he…flirting with you? It just can't be.
"I really don't think I have that good a storytelling voice.."-you whispered lowering your head
Adam stared at you stunned with a frown in confusion, did you really think that of yourself? The sovereign was about to reply "Oh if you could see yourself as I see you…" but he bit his tongue and didn't say it.
Since he didn't know what to say, you were about to leave when in an attempt to keep you longer he grabbed your wrist. your breathing quickened a bit
"Is it true that tomorrow you will read them a story again?" You nodded "Then I think I'll be there too, I want to hear you"
You smile perplexed, you were supposed to teach children to read, not adults, but you thought it was a tender gesture.
🍀💮🍀💮
As you promised, now you were heading back with another book in your hand, "The Little Prince". But this time you were a little nervous because you knew that among the children would be Adam, who was not a child. When you arrived at Knowhere Square there were at least 15 children waiting for you. You swallowed scared, you had never read for so many people. You thought that there would only be three or four children like the previous days but this time it was a whole contingent and not only that, now instead of reading in a small and private room or at a table outside the cafeteria you would have to do it in the middle of the square where people passed. Your palms sweated.
Nebula walked over to your side and looked at the children who were already sitting on the floor in a circle.
"I think you have a great audience today"
But you were pale and serious and you were squeezing the book as if it were going to fly away, Nebula noticed it and placed a hand on your shoulder rubbing it.
"Don't worry, I know you'll do well. I've seen how you read to them, you really do well and they love you. I'll be around if you need anything"
You nodded gratefully and when he left you sat on the floor next to them, you opened the book and were about to read but the words got stuck in your throat, unconsciously you searched for Adam with your eyes and there he was at the bottom of the room. He rounded sitting like a Buddha with his elbows on his knees and his hands on his chin, looking at you and encouraging you to continue. His presence gave you the courage you needed, you began the story with more relief and encouragement.
"isn't she fantastic?"-Adam whispered with a lovesick face to a boy who was sitting next to him.

biased as always, the number one Anne Stan, ofc i gotta christen this returned account with my girl <3
hlc react to mc developing a crush on anne? from the consistent visits to feldcroft to the occasional outing that mc can take her on, it’s obvious they’re growing to be a little more than friends…
A/N: Anne Sallow simping content coming right up lol
HLC REACT TO MC CRUSHING ON ANNE SALLOW
It all started the day Sebastian introduced MC to her. Even with her tired eyes, they were enraptured by her sweet voice and good nature despite being in such pain. Even if Anne was convinced there was no real help for her, MC was determined to make life just a bit more enjoyable.
At first, It was letters with little gifts. Those turned into visits without Sebastian tailing them. Eventually, sneaking Anne out of the house for some "fresh air." Even without Sebastian around, her uncle was rather unpleasant. Always hovering, to the point of being overbearing.
Their most memorable date outing by far has to have been when MC offered to fly her up the hill on their broom to overlook Feldcroft. She sat sidesaddle on the handle in front of MC and she held on to them as they gently glided up into the air. MC struggled to focus on where they were going having her so close.
So close in fact, that if MC hadn't been so distracted, maybe they would have heard the faint but distinctive whisper of ancient magic coming from the scar on her side.
SEBASTIAN SALLOW: He gets suspicious when MC starts asking too many Anne centric questions. Then he gets REAL suspicious when he walked in on MC and Anne playing wizard's chess. He hadn't announced that he was going, so he was shocked to see MC with his sister alone.
Protective Brother™ mode activated. What were they playing at? His sister had enough to deal with right now, she didn't need MC drooling all over her. He doesn't fall for any of MC's excuses, no one visits Anne more than he does, not even her old school friends. There was no way MC's intentions were "just being friendly".
He keeps an eagle eye out for MC. If he can't find them anywhere, he goes straight to Feldcroft to break up the fraternizing. Anne will have to tell him off multiple times.
OMINIS GAUNT: He doesn't know this is going on until Anne casually mentions it in her letters. This....he struggles with this. Anne is very special to him. They'd been close since first year, she was one of his first and few friends and now she...she seems so...taken by MC.
He wrestles with his own pride and self loathing. He should have said something sooner. He should have told her how much he....it didn't matter now. MC was braver. She doesn't deserve a coward like him anyway. He's happy she's happy. That's all that matters...right?
IMELDA REYES: She knew Anne. They were on the Slytherin quidditch team together before Anne fell ill. She reads about Anne and MC in letters and snorts. She advises Anne to not be so quick to admire MC, they aren't that amazing.
NATSAI ONAI: She finds it absolutely adorable. MC always thinks of Anne, constantly asking her if Anne will like what they've found or bought. Even asks for advice, not that she knows much about relationships, but she tries her best.
GARRETH WEASLEY: He gets nosey, seeing MC almost always nose deep in a letter that smells floral with a touch of birch. He'll poke fun that they're infatuated with their special pen pal and not so subtly imply that he has the perfect potion in mind if they want to speed things along. *Wink*
LEANDER PREWETT: Anne who? Sebastian's sister? Pfffft, good luck with that. Sebastian is a bulldog when it comes to family. Very protective, almost possessive.
AMIT THAKKAR: He first realizes that MC is acting strange when they started daydreaming heavily in class. Even in the more interesting classes. What's got them all starry-eyed and distracted from learning? ....he should have known. A girl.
EVERETT CLOPTON: He hears about it second hand from someone else who heard MC and Sebastian going at it over MC seeing Anne without supervision. Rumors spread like wildfire, especially when the arguably most interesting person at Hogwarts apparently developed a crush on Sallow's sister and was sneaking around with her. Made for very juicy gossip.
POPPY SWEETING: She hears about it through the rumor mill as well and tells MC to fly in on a hippogriff next time. That always impresses the ladies, trust her on this.
ANNE SALLOW: MC brought some color back into her life. They wanted to know all about her, they showered her with gifts, and would come to see her even without reason. She caught on fast that MC fancied her and she had fun playing coy.
Oh, MC wants to know what she likes for her birthday? What an odd, totally random question. MC has been staring at her for the last five minutes, not realizing she's stopped talking, how interesting. She loved pointing out MC's blatantly odd behavior and watching them fluster within an inch of their life. It's the Slytherin in her, she thinks it's funny.
When MC starts asking for more private outings, that's when she really starts to feel special. MC was willing to accommodate her in any way she needed. If she grew exhausted from a walk, they would carry her back. If she was having a particularly rough day with the curse, they'd tend to her hand and a foot, almost fussing as much as Sebastian. Almost.
The time MC flew her up the hill to the lookout, she felt herself falling, in the figurative sense. MC may have fallen for her first, but she fell harder. Holding on to them as they flew, she couldn't take her eyes off their face. She almost kissed them. She didn't, however, miss the fact that her scar hurt a lot less that day.

In your au, did uncle Owen and aunt beru help anakin with Leia’s early years?
yeah!! so for the first few months, Anakin was raising Leia alone while on the run and also trying not to be depressed about 1. the entire republic falling, 2. him almost being involved in that, and 3. losing his wife and son for the foreseeable future. this is, as it turns out, not very sustainable AND he wants to help the fight against the empire -- which he absolutely cannot do
n he realises his only option is what he considers the Ultimate Worst Option Ever: go back to Tatooine and hope the Larses will be able to help even the tiniest bit. which he hates bc tatooine and he's gotta basically beg for help -- except it doesn't come to that bc Owen and Beru take one look at this depressed ball of self hatred and recently aquired fatherhood and IMMEDIATELY are like yes come in we can help oh my we thought you died in those Jedi purges!!
so yeah for a while Anakin's basically just Recovering from the insanity of the past few months (and paying them back by upgrading the farming equipment in ways thought impossible) but after a while he gets in contact w the fledgeling rebellion n starts doing missions and Owen n Beru look after Leia during those!! but yeah she's mostly living on Tatooine, occasionally goes w Anakin places as she gets older (NOT missions, Jedi training lol)
but as with anything nice that happens to a Skywalker, it doesn't last and long story short when Leia's abt 12 someone tracks Anakin to Tatooine!!! luckily he deals w them before they get to the farm, but he realises Huh I'm Putting Owen and Beru in a Lot of Danger w harbouring 2 Jedi -- which they insist is fine but Anakin's... well he's Anakin so he's like nah ok Leia and I should stay w the Rebellion more I'm so sorry ):
Leia n Anakin still visit after that (and Luke & Padme will too, eventually! bc they don't get a new hope'd) but yeah!! Leia loves her aunt and uncle a lot they're great and Beru absolutely has a spritzer to spray Anakin w when he gets too broody lol

Mending a Family 10/?
Prev | Next
Jason finds out shocking news about his family, and Bruce is an idiot who can't admit he just misses his son.
Jason smiled as he pushed Danny on the swing. Lian was laughing beside them. Jason turned toward Roy and grinned at the man as both children’s peals of laughter echoed around them. (Jason had built a swing set, so Danny had something to play with. Next would be a slide.) Raven was talking to Jazz and rocking Ellie. Raven had seemed to become attached to the kids quickly. It helped that they weren’t fully human like her.
Plus, it must be nice for Jazz to have another girl to speak to.
Jason was so glad that Raven had suggested she cloak Jason and his small family so that she and Roy could come to visit. The Bats were still looking for Jason. According to Roy, Batman and Nightwing were going crazy trying to find leads on Jason.
He didn’t know how to feel about that.
A part of Jason hoped that his old family missed him, but a bigger part of him knew that they were only looking for Jason to keep an eye on him in case Jason went insane again. Jason knew their worries were justified.
It wouldn’t happen, though, not with the family that Jason had built. He couldn’t risk losing Danny and, to the same extent, Jazz and Ellie. He had already gotten attached to the sweet baby girl, and Jazz was nice to talk to.
She almost reminded him of Barbara. Barbara, the only person from his past who talked to him occasionally, was the only one who checked on him and ensured he was fine. She sometimes talked to him during patrols, making those nights less lonely.
Jason was brought back to the present at Danny’s and Lian’s giggling.
“Uncle Jay, Uncle Jay, tell Danny I’m your favorite niece.”
“Nuh-uh, Ellie is his favorite niece.”
“Guys, guys, no fighting. Besides, I love my two nieces equally.”
Roy started fidgeting beside him while Lian looked at him, confused. Raven had a strange look on her face. Before he could ask what happened for them to start acting weird, Lian said, “What about Mar’i? Don’t you love her, too?”
Jason looked at Raven and then Roy.
“Who the hell is Mar’i?”
“Jay,” Roy asked cautiously, “Didn’t you know?”
“Know what?”
Roy sucked in his breath, “Mar’i is Kory’s and Dick’s daughter.”
____
Bruce couldn’t believe what Alfred was saying.
“So, you find out my son is alive, have proof, it takes you a few days to tell me, and then you say I shouldn’t look for him?”
“That’s exactly what I did and am saying, Master Bruce. The boy wants to be left alone; I think we should give him his space and let him come back to us when he feels like it.”
“What if the Pits take over, and he goes on a killing spree? What if he gets in trouble? Injured or, God forbid, what if he gets killed?” Again.
“What if—what if he never comes home?”
“Master Jason has suffered enough. If he felt the need to leave home, we should honor that. Besides, he came home once. He’ll do it again. We have to give him his space, Bruce.”
Bruce stared out the window from his office. A part of him wishes he could’ve reconnected with Jason sooner.
Would he have left if Bruce had extended an olive branch?
No, it was too late to think about ‘what ifs’ now. He had to find his son and bring him home. It’s the only way he can keep the world and Jason safe. Bruce had a better handle in Gotham than anywhere else in the world. He would bring Jason back and ensure his boy was again protected by his cape.
He had to. There was no other choice.
Special thanks to rpglady76 for suggesting that Raven cloak Jason and his family. I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how Roy and Raven would be able to visit Jason and had completely forgotten Raven knows magic. I also want to thank Breesperez139 for suggesting I put in Mar'i so I can have even more angst.

Fall in Ered Luin 🎃
Summary: Family Fluff - Thorin spends the day with his young nephews Fili and Kili. Thorin thinks that after a couple of successful times, he has babysitting under control, but does he, really?
Inspired by, but not specifically for @fellowshipofthefics fotfictember I just finally have vacation and my muse showed up 💜

Tumblr media
Sunrays were illuminating the damp, mossy grounds of the Ered Luin woods, which were covered in an array of pretty red, yellow and brown colored leaves. The air was filled with the scent of Fall. Thorin took a deep, soothing breath and closed his eyes, the sunrays warming his face. For a moment, Kili and Fili’s chatter and laughter softened and a smile played on his lips. He was content. No, he was happy. A welcome change to the feelings of sadness which usually haunted him.
He opened his eyes again and looked at the boys scouring the ground for acorns, twigs and leaves and their little treasures, aka rocks.
Thorin had offered to take Fili and Kili for a walk in the woods, while Dis, his beloved sister, would get supplies from the market for a nice dinner and a pumpkin pie.
Usually, when they went into the woods, the boys, especially Kili, wanted to bring home all kinds of things, including animals, but Thorin could proudly say that so far, he had managed to get home without much more than pretty rocks and pebbles and the occasional stick.
Today, however, he had told them that they could bring anything home with them, so that they could make a nice Fall project from what they would find. Both Fili and Kili had brought their tiny rucksacks to carry their precious collection back home.
“Put the bunny down, Kili,” Thorin bellowed, when he saw Kili trying to stuff the animal into his rucksack.
“But Uncle! “ Kili protested, “You said we could take anything!”
With a sigh, Thorin crouched down beside his nephew and petted the bunny, before taking it and releasing it. Kili’s chin wobbled and tears sprang to his eyes.
Thorin gently stroked the little pebble’s head and explained, “You can take any leaves, acorns, flowers and things like that, Kili. You just can’t take home any animals, ok? They belong here, in the woods” He smiled at Kili, pulled out an acorn from his pocket, which he had picked up earlier and Kili’s eyes lit up. Sorrows all forgotten, he sprang up and ran towards his brother to show him the gift.
Fili was crouched down, curiously studying some pretty colored mushrooms. “Uncle Thorin!”, he yelled, “come look”. He proudly pointed at his find. “Aren’t they pretty!” he exclaimed and Thorin had to admit that the big red mushrooms with white spots were a pretty sight on the green, mossy forest bed. He just loved the Fall and its colors and scents.
After having roamed around a while and the pebbles having collected their treasures, they walked back home, where Dis was already unpacking the goodies she got from the market.
“Can we help make the pie?” Fili asked, having climbed up on a chair to look at the supplies sprawled out on the kitchen table.
“I’m not sure that’s …” Dis started, but Thorin stepped in and offered to make the pie with the boys, so that she could rest a bit. Dis hesitated for a moment, but having some time to herself sounded wonderful.
“I got this and the boys,” Thorin reassured her and gently ushered her out of the kitchen.
“All right then.” Dis smiled and left them to it.
“So boys, what do we need?” Thorin asked, rolling up his sleeves.
“Forks!” Kili shouted.
“No, dumbass,” Fili laughed. “We first need to make the pie before we can eat it. We need the recipe, Uncle Thorin,” he said and climbed off the chair to grab the book from a side table, which was filled with cookbooks and notebooks with secret recipes by Dis. He had helped his mother in the kitchen many times before and he knew exactly which book had the recipe for the pumpkin pie.
For the next hour or so, Thorin and the boys managed to put the ingredients together and the pie was finally in the oven. When Dis entered the kitchen, she found Thorin, Fili and Kili and the entire kitchen, covered in flour and remnants of ingredients. Thorin looked a little guilty and the boys, well, they just looked proud. She couldn’t help but giggle. “Need a hand, my dear brother?” she asked.
Thorin sighed gratefully and a while later, the kitchen, as well as Thorin, Fili and Kili, were spotless again.
“Why don’t you go rest a bit near the fire?” she told Thorin.
“Can we have a story, please, Uncle Thorin?” the boys pleaded, tucking on his shirt.
“Alright, alright,” Thorin agreed and swooped the boys up into his arms and onto his shoulder. With the boys dangling from his broad shoulders, giggling and squealing, he retreated from the kitchen, leaving Dis with a smile on her lips. She loved the boys so much and her brother wasn’t too bad either.
When Dis entered the living area a while later with a tray laden with hot chocolate and pumpkin pie, she found the boys lying on their tummies on the soft rug in front of the fire, glued to Thorin’s lips, who was telling them a scary story. They ooh-ed and aaah-ed and were completely engrossed in the story.  When they saw her with the goodies, however, they sprang up and took the pie and hot chocolate, only to sit down again and beg Thorin to continue the story.
When their bellies were full and the story finished, the boys were visibly tired and yawned. They curled up beside Uncle Thorin, who had a hard time keeping his eyes open himself.
“I should change my profession to babysitter. I’m good at it.” he whispered, proudly. He smiled and gently pressed a kiss on Kili and Fili’s heads.
“I guess you are,” Dis humored him, holding back comments about the state of the kitchen and the boys earlier. They love you, my dear brother, as do I. Days like these are my favorite, especially in the Fall and I’ll make sure they stay in my memory forever.
“Likewise , my dear sister,’ Thorin agreed. “Family time is the best.” and with those words, Thorin dozed off, holding his beloved nephews Fili and Kili close.

I just wanted some modern besties Phillip and Penelope vibes being single parents and raising their kids together with occasional visits from crazy uncle Michael. Kinda like Full House style.
Phillip and Penelope met when her cousin Marina and his brother George started to go out with one another. Both being the quiet introvert types they got along well. When they both realized they were going to the same university they started to hang out more.
Sadly tragedy struck when George, who was a solider, was killed in action. This news made Marina, who was already suffering from postpartum, fall into a deep depression. So bad that she ended up taking her own life. The parents left behind a pair of twins Oliver and Amanda Crane.
Phillip ended up stepping up and adopting the twins. He didn't trust anyone else to take care of them despite the doubts he has for himself, and he felt like he owed George for taking care of him all those years ago.
Penelope herself also ended up having twins, Agatha and Thomas Featherington, after a drunken one night stand with "a random man in London."
"Penelope!" Michael laughed. "How scandalous! You don't who your baby daddy is?"
"Nope," Penelope said, rubbing her pregnant belly. "Black out drunk. My mother is not happy either."
The three friends were at Phillip's ancestral home visiting. Well, Penelope was actually hiding out after revealing to her mother her pregnancy, and Michael likes drama, so of course, he had to come hear the story.
"You know you could just stay here," Phillip offered later that night. "This house is too big its not like three more will make a difference and the twins love having their Aunt Penelope around."
Penelope happily accepted her friend's offer. The two friends happily live with one another doing their best to raise the kids. Michael came to visit every once in a while. Making sure to bring gifts and sweets for the children.
Things took an interesting turn, though, when the Crane twins were 8 and the Featherington twins were 6.
The cousins were playing in the park when Penelope heard another mother say. "Did I have another son?"
Penelope looked over. A pretty blonde, pregnant woman who could be Cinderella come to life was looking down at four boys. One of those boys being Penelope's son.
Penelope sighed. While both her children could be little troublemakers, just like their older cousins, Thomas has this charm about him that could get him almost anything he wanted.
Picking up Agatha Penelope made her way over to the other mother. "I'm sorry, I think our sons are playing a prank."
Penelope looked down at the four boys and whoa. They really did look a like. If Thomas eye's weren't emerald green, Penelope might not have been able to tell them apart, especially with the oldest boy.
"Oh, it's alright," the blonde woman laughed. "You think I would be used to this. My children's cousins all look alike to some degree and some could potentially switch places with one another." She held out a hand. "I'm Sophie Bridgerton."

Promised Part 6 - Tom Riddle x reader
Tumblr media
Info: This is a rewrite of a story I've posted on my old account years ago. If it sounds familiar, that might be why :)
Summary: In this story, Tom didn't grow up as an orphan, but with his grandfather and uncle. Reader's sister got very sick and the Gaunts offer their help. But not without asking for something in return.
Warnings: Arranged marriage
Word count: 2k
Masterpost | Masterlist | Part 5 | Part 7
Part 6 - Of Vows and Wrangles
Winter came suddenly this year, and so did Christmas. With all the schoolwork you had been doing for the upcoming N.E.W.T.s in June, the weeks had passed by as quickly as a snitch on the Quidditch field. The holidays were a much-needed break and to see your family again was an even bigger delight.
Elsie did great. She looked like nothing had ever happened to her. No curse, no apparent illness that had almost taken her life, apart from some occasional coughs here and there. She ran around the house like the years before, excited for Christmas to finally come. The house elves seemed glad to have her and all her shenanigans back as well, much to your parent’s dismay, but they let most of it slide. They were thankful their daughter was healthy enough to fool around again.
Christmas day was as cosy and joyful as ever. You spent the whole day with Elsie and your parents, exchanging gifts and playing together. Elsie got her first broom and started her first attempt at flying, which resulted in a knocked-over vase, that split into a million pieces, and a crash landing into the fireplace. Some tears were shed and dried again, and a “no flying inside” rule was established, which resulted in another crying fit. Oh, how you had missed it all.
Mother had waited until the late evening to tell you that the Gaunts would come to visit for lunch the next day. She must have known that you would pepper her with questions again. It was necessary and polite, she said, to invite the future family and show them your interest.
There was certainly no interest to be given to Tom’s grandfather and uncle, but now that you thought of Tom, you had to admit that you missed him. How he had held your hand, how surprisingly cautious and gentle he had been. This memory was embedded in your brain. You would have expected anything but this from him. Anything but that soft and coy demeanour. And still, it made you nervous thinking about meeting him along with his family again. They were the ones that must have made him so cold. So you fell asleep, anticipation and tension crawling through your every vein.
The Gaunts arrived in a rush and brought in a whiff of cold air that couldn’t even be drowned out by the fire in the chimney. Tom acknowledged you this time though. Not like months before when they had come to your house. You could have sworn that there was even a hint of a smile on his lips when he laid his eyes upon you. A smile that you reciprocated, rather faintly as well.
Lunch was alright. A lot of forced formalities and small talk, some tired attempts to get to know the future family. Tom was quiet, as usual, only talked when someone asked him something directly, while Morfin and Marvolo ate so voraciously, the house elves had trouble filling up their plates in time.
The Christmas spirit was spoiled when presents were brought up. Marvolo asked about Elsie’s new broom and why on Merlin’s green earth your parents would gift such a thing to a girl. He held back his laughter and shook his head when Elsie explained so excitedly that she couldn’t wait to learn how to fly in Hogwarts. Bastard.
Marvolo noticed the look you gave him and seemed to take it as a challenge, so he stared back at you, his filthy grin still in place. His head leant sideways as he waited for you to say something, his eyes squinted as if to tell you to go on and tell him what bothered you.
How you would have loved to smash his face against the table or curse him into oblivion. Your teeth hurt from how hard you clenched your jaw. You couldn’t. You wanted to tell him so badly what an awful, disgusting, obsolete excuse for a man he was. But you mustn’t. He still had Elsie’s life in his hands. So you stayed silent when he whispered, “That’s what I thought.”
“Anyway,” Father said in an attempt to ease the tension. “What are your plans for the remaining holidays?”
“There’s not a lot to do these days, is there?” Marvolo answered. “But now that you bring it up, we had something special planned for today.”
Morfin grinned as he shoved the last spoonful of mashed potatoes into his mouth.
“And what is that?” Father asked.
“Well now that your little one is doing much better, which I assume you’re very thankful for,” he paused to wait for your parents to agree. “We decided to accept your invitation for today to bring our mutual pact to the next stage.”
Mother quickly told the elves to take Elsie upstairs, while you looked over at Tom in question. He only shook his head, letting you know he didn’t know what was going on either.
“The next stage?” Father asked. “What do you mean by that?”
“Since we’ve done our part of the agreement already, exceedingly fast and precise might I add, and the wedding is still months away, we want to make sure we will get what we asked for. You see, I respect you and your family of course, but one can never be sure enough. We don’t want to be tricked or exploited. So we’re asking for an unbreakable vow. Between Tom and your daughter.”
“A vow?” Mother was appalled. “What for?”
“For the marriage of course,” Marvolo said. “A promise that the marriage will be solemnised, that cannot be withdrawn from either side.”
A breath got stuck in your throat. First the marriage and now this? If you agreed, the Gaunts would have both Elsie and you under their control. Infringing an unbreakable vow resulted in death and they would never stop asking for things if you agreed to this.
“Marvolo,” Father sighed. “Don’t you think it’s enough? That we agreed to do this for the sake of my youngest child? You haven’t broken her curse entirely so you can use her as leverage. And now you expect me to bring my eldest daughter in mortal danger as well?”
“There’s no danger if the plan proceeds as we agreed,” Marvolo answered. “The vow can’t harm her if she plays by the rules.”
“She played by the rules,” Mother said. “She still does. Everyone’s been playing by your rules, so why do you want to add the vow?”
“As I said, I don’t want to be tricked. It’s merely a way to protect my family. And with all due respect, your reaction makes it seem like you’re up to no good already. Who knows? Perhaps you’ve changed your minds.”
Protect his family… He would sell both Tom and Morfin for a galleon and a half if he could. He was paranoid. Tom watched you in silence, his face void of emotion as your eyes met. What could you possibly reply to such an insane proposal? Every word that could leave your mouth right now would be filthy and full of anger, and Marlovo was already waiting for you to burst.
He turned to you. “What do you say, child? Don’t you want to prove your loyalty?”
You sucked in a breath and were about to answer when Tom suddenly stood up.
“Enough! I want a word.”
“You want a word?” Marvolo laughed disparagingly.
“Now,” Tom turned to your parents. “Is there a room we can go to?”
“The reading room, right across the corridor,” Mother said and showed them the way.
You followed the three men and watched them enter the reading room before Mother turned towards you. “Don’t eavesdrop, darling,” she said. “Give them some privacy.”
“Do you really think Marvolo deserves privacy?”
“No. He’s an awful man.”
“He is,” Father said as he joined you.
“We’re not going to let him do this to you,” Mother promised. “You’ve already done enough. Marvolo is out of his mind.”
“He’s greedy,” Father added. “Unreasonable.”
You leant your head against the door to the reading room and pressed your ear onto it, trying to hear what they were talking about. Mother motioned for you to stop, but didn’t prevent you from listening.
First, you heard nothing. Silence, then footsteps tipping across the room. Mumbled words that were so washed out you could barely understand what they meant.
Tom’s voice echoed from the walls. “You can’t be serious. Why would you ask for more? And why didn’t you tell me?”
Marvolo answered quietly. You could only guess what he was saying. Something like “Why would I?”
Mother appeared next to you, visibly displeased with herself as she flicked her wand and cast a spell that diminished the sound barrier, so you could hear every word that was spoken inside the room. Privacy has to be earned in this house.
“I’m not going to let you go through with this,” Tom said.
Marvolo snickered. “And you think I care what you’re allowing me to do?”
“I know you don’t,” Tom answered. “But I won’t comply. You can’t force anyone to make an unbreakable vow. Not even with the Imperius curse. And you know that.”
“What are you doing this for?” Morfin suddenly participated. “For the girl? You know things will only get worse if you refuse.”
A moment of silence occurred.
“Oh would you look at that,” Morfin chuckled. “You do like her, don’t you? Well, at least Father’s letter wasn’t in vain then.”
Tom didn’t answer.
“And her? How will you make her fall for you?” Morfin asked. “If you need a little love potion, I can provide that.”
“How dare you bring that up?” Tom spat. “You're very brave today, uncle. Comparing me to her.”
“Well, Father,” Morfin went on. “Looks like Tom thinks he can do it all on his own.”
“Now listen to me, son,” Marvolo said. “If you think you can disobey me like that, without any consequences, you must take me for a fool. To say that I’m disappointed is an understatement. Just know that there will be more to it.”
They scurried around. Marvolo and Morfin seemed to leave through the Floo Network. You assumed Tom would follow them but could hear him roaming around the room for another minute until his steps wandered towards the door.
Both you and your mother stepped away quickly. Mother fixed her hair and you had suddenly found a deep interest in your nail beds, studying them as if your life depended on it.
Tom stood in the door frame, chest heaving slightly, with the doorknob in his hand.
“Grandfather and uncle left through the fireplace,” he said. “I’ll go too, I just need a minute, if you’ll allow.”
Mother looked at him like she looked at Elsie when she grazed her knee or hit her head. Her eyes weren’t as stern as you expected them to be, but soft and full of pity.
“Why don’t you stay for a bit, Tom?” she asked. “We still have so much food left from lunch, we could need a bit of help before it goes to waste.”
Tom looked at her and nodded slowly. He must have known that she didn’t invite him to prevent wasting food. But apparently, he didn’t care what her reasons were. He just accepted it and that was fair.
“Would you show him around, darling?” Mother asked you. “While I tell the elves to prepare the guest room.”

So I know your doing anime headcanons right now but I've been dying to know the relationships that your OC's have with their parents! Like I want to know about Evan's mom or Walter's parents. Btw I've been a huge fan of your blog for a long time and I really love your work!
Tumblr media
Walter's mother and father both passed in a car accident. It was while Walter was near the end of his formal medical education. Around this time, Amira was still in high school and was not handling the loss of their parents well. Walter had to learn to juggle medical school, his own mental health, his sister's mental and physical health, Amira's education, finishing his fellowship with the hospital he was studying at, and making enough to survive.
- This is the time Walter started taking a few under the table jobs to make ends meet and met Evan. He is somewhat of an on-call doctor for Evan's miscellaneous adventures.
Tumblr media
- Evan was raised as a mafioso's son from a very young age. His grandmother on his father's side is his only living relative besides a spare few cousins. Evan got along well with his father, and it was clear Evan had absolute respect for his father in almost all regards. His mother was not a prominent part of his life and tried to walk out on the family when Evan was six, he never saw her afterwards but knew better than to question his father about a traitor.
- When Evan's father was killed during Evan's first wedding, Evan lost almost all of his young and reckless outlook on life. He became much more intimidating and serious after the death of his father and his impromptu accelerated promotion to head of the family. Only Evan's Grandmother is allowed to get on him for any behavior without Evan becoming angered. He's used to her harping and nagging.
Tumblr media
- Carlos is still close with his family, though they are rather spread out world wide. Carlos' father was a renowned medical practitioner who specializes in pulmonary procedures. Carlos' mother travels with his father to various communities to aid in treatment of mycoorganisms and Tuberculosis. His uncles and aunts range from professors to large land owners with various ranches.
- Carlos loves when his mother and father come to visit because he loves cooking dinner with his mother. Carlos has two sisters, one of whom is already doing well with her thriving family and the other is working on the conservation of Asian Elephants.
Tumblr media
- Jackson... Misses his family with almost every part of his soul. Family and heritage is important to a Native American and the true unity that came with being in an established tribe gave him a sense of belonging. He no longer has access to that sense of belonging or support due to his unofficial excommunication from his home.
- Jackson got along best with his mother who was always there for him in the hardest of times. Despite the potential repercussions, she still occasionally reaches out to check in on Jackson, though she can't talk with him for long.
Tumblr media
- Hahne only has his sister, Hada. He learned long ago that he would have to find his family instead of living with the ones he was related to by blood. Hahne's parents were rather absent if they weren't busy trying to overwork Hahne and ride on his success in swimming. Hahne raised Hada from a young age as his parents were always busy with work.
- After Hahne's parents disowned him, he moved with Hada to escape the persecution the family brought on him. He found a family in Evan and the mafia, but still cares deeply for his little sister.
Tumblr media
- Orion still speaks with his parents frequently. They returned to a villa in Tuscany where they live comfortably and happily. His father still thinks Orion is one hell of an author and can do no wrong. Orion's mother always sees him as a scrawny lad who needs more supper and a nice lover.
- They have brunch every other month when Orion flies out to visit them.
Tumblr media
- Amira is close with her older brother and sees him as her primary support after their parents died. They were not very close when their parents were alive but the simultaneous passing of their family brought the siblings together to support one another in grief.
- Amira still misses her family every day.
Tumblr media
- Maya's father was a professional surfer before he got into an accident during a competition and lost his legs. Kaya's mother takes care of her father most of the time and the two are hobby farmers. Kaya does what she can to help them enjoy their more self sustaining lifestyle.
Tumblr media
- Julie never met her father but always was told that he was a good man who had some hard choices in life to make. Very close with her mother and has little art get-togethers with her mother almost every week. Julie inherited the shop from her mother and grew up painting along side her.
Tumblr media
- Hada has not spoken with her parents ever since her brother was kicked out for being trans. She decided to cut all ties with everyone other than Hahne because he had always been the one who was there for her when she needed him to be.

Can you write something where Jack just came home from tour and hazel is just so happy but the next day she has to go to either school or daycare and you find her and jack in the morning begging you to let her miss one day 🥺
-🐈
One more day.
Tumblr media
Sometimes Jack would go away on tour and you and Hazel would stay behind so that she could continue her schedule for pre-school. Of course there was the occasional visit, you couldn’t stay away from each other for extended long periods. It was hard but you were trying to get her into a “normal” routine. You both missed him a lot and you would try to make things extra special when he would come home.
Jack came home tonight which meant that you and Hazel spent all evening after school decorating the house. You tried to always make it a special event when daddy came home. You and Hazel decorated your living room with balloons, streamers, flowers and a welcome home banner that you both made together with some poster board. You also made him some dinner and Hazel made him cookies. He always pretended to like them for her sake.
Jack usually had his driver drive him home from the airport so you didn’t have to worry about things like that. You looked over at the clock and realized that he was probably going to be home any minute. “Wanna get the silly string out to spray daddy?”
Hazel nodded eagerly before running to a bag and pulling out two cans and handing you them to open.
You quickly opened them as you heard some noise outside, you assumed it was your husband. “Quick, let’s hide behind the couch” you grabbed Hazels hand and you both ducked.
When the door finally unlocked you both popped up and sprayed him with the purple silly string.
Jack laughed and dramatically fell to the floor “I’ve been shot, I’ve been shot” he yelled dramatically while the three of you couldn’t stop laughing.
“Daddy!” Hazel ran over to Jack who is still on the floor and tackled him.
“Hi Hazey!” He peppered her little chubby cheeks in kisses.
You put your hand out to help him off the floor as your daughter stayed attached to him at the hip. “Hi beautiful” he grabbed you softly by your face and pulled you in for a series of long kisses.
“Get a room” Hazel giggled.
“You listen to Uncle Urb too much when he talks” Jack laughed.
“Down! Down!“ Hazel kicked a little to let her dad know she wanted him to put her down so she could show him some thing.
“Mommy made la la lapasta?” She looked at you to see if you were in agreement, while she tugged at her dad‘s shirt to take him to the kitchen.
“Lasagna and salad” you told Jack with a small laugh “oh and garlic bread” and you motioned towards the countertop. “Close Hazel, close.”
Hazel just giggled as she pointed to her cookies “I made these.”
“You did?” Jack acted surprised as if she didn’t do this almost every time, sometimes it was cupcakes but usually it was cookies.
“But mommy said we have to eat dinner first” Hazel said in hopes that she would change her dad‘s mind.
“We’ll mommy’s right, go sit down and I’ll get your plate.”
Hazel ran and sat down at the table.
“I got you both babe, I don’t mind. Go sit down” you pecked his lips and he squeezed your butt now that your daughter wasn’t in view.
“Are you sure? I can-“ you cut him off “you’re probably exhausted, just go sit down.”
He kissed you again “I love you.”
“I love you too” you hummed as you got all three of your plates ready.
After dinner was over, you three sat in the living room and attempted to watch a movie but Jack was knocked out cold within 20 minutes. Hazel giggled as Jack snored louder and louder. “Daddy is sleepy” Hazel covered her mouth and tried to suppress a giggle.
“Jack Jacky Jack” You shook him awake softly.
“Oh wussup?” He said with one eye open trying to pretend he wasn’t asleep.
“It’s time for bed” Hazel giggled and you agreed.
Both you and Jack tucked her into her bed and said your goodnights before heading to your own room.
The next morning your alarm went off and Jack was already out of bed. You thought this was out of character for him so you wondered what he was up to. When you walked out of your room you saw both him and Hazel sitting on the floor with some of the leftover posterboard from the banner you had made him the night before.
“Good morning mommy” Hazel nudged her dad who currently had the end of a glue stick in his mouth. He took it out of his mouth quickly “Hi baby good morning” he said with a voice full of guilt.
“What are you two up to?” You laughed and looked over at Jack for answers.
“Don’t be mad” Jack stood up hiding the poster board from you. Hazel hid behind him and you could hear her giggling.
“Jackman, when you say that it instantly makes me mad” you raised an eyebrow but you were still being playful with him.
Jack turned the poster board over and said “TA-DA!”
And Hazel echoed “ta dahs!”
The posterboard was definitely DIY and 100% obvious that a four-year-old child had a lot to do with it. However the message was loud and clear and written by your husband.
“Let Hazel stay home today” is what the posterboard read. At first you didn’t say anything which made Jack turn to Hazel and mumble “plan b” and they both got on their knees and gave you puppy dog eyes with their hands clasped together.
“Pwease mommy. Just one more day” Hazel said in a very obviously coached voice as she looked at Jack for approval and he gave her a thumbs up.
You couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculous they both were being.
“ Yes Hazel you can stay home! Get up you two!”
Hazel ran over to you and gave you a hug.
“Really?” Jack laughed “good because plan c was all I had left.”
“Plan C? Do I even wanna know?”
Hazel giggled, she was happy as can be that she got to stay home with you both today.
Jack whispered what plan c was in your ear and you laughed. “You’re crazy, you could’ve just asked me you didn’t have to put on a whole show.”
“Putting on a show is what I do best” Jack smirked.
You loved when he said stuff like that so you couldn’t help but blush “Ahhh, very true Harlow. Very true.”

***************
Ellie couldn’t say she had grown up sheltered, not with Lorenzo as an uncle, and she knew that life ‘before’ had teenagers much more sheltered and confined than her. She was taught how to shoot by her uncle Tommy early on and had a gun Tommy kept locked in the gun cabinet. She could break the glass for emergencies, but she knew he thought this would prevent her from sneaking out at night if she had no protection. At 16, she was participating in patrols with other youths although it was a position more for practice than anything. They were inner, barely treading more than a mile outside of Jackson at most. The adults did the real patrols, but everyone started somewhere she supposed. Everyone had a job here except for the sick and very young, Ellie had gone the route of patrols, even though Uncle Tommy was less than thrilled. He had tried to encourage her towards medicine, seeing as Ellie was never phased by the idea of violence or blood or bodily fluids, but Ellie wasn’t a book person, she barely managed in school as it was, only suffering through another few years to not disappoint uncles. She loved them all, very much, but they could be a lot, especially Tommy.
Tommy raised her, Tommy was who she lived with. He could be overbearing, over protective, intense, but kind and understanding. Ellie never found much of a reason to complain about him the way others her age complained about there parents. He never raised his voice in anger, never hurt her, insulted her, demeaned her the way she knew others parents did… still, Ellie couldn’t help but feel… stifled. That’s why she started sneaking out. She didn’t do anything bad, it was just getting out of Jackson and walking, occasionally taking Uncle Zach’s horse if she was feeling daring. Tommy would know if she took his horse. Tommy always new. He was so attuned to her, she felt bad being annoyed by it… he was such a good dad… and he was her dad, even if not by blood. Well. A little by blood.
Ellie knew since she was young that Tommy wasn’t her dad, she didn't really remember a time when she didn’t know; she was always just raised by her uncles. From what she was told, her mom and dad met in Boston, but they were unhappy in the QZ and decided to venture out west with the little family they had. Her dad, Joel, had a brother Tommy. Her mom also had a brother, he uncle Zach, and Zach’s husband Lorenzo. With them was Tommy’s friend Jack, Jack’s cousin Maura, and Ellie’s mom’s friend June. June and Maura fell in love on the trip and lived several miles outside of Jackson, coming to visit often, and thank god for them. Ellie loved her uncles but she did not want to get the ‘changing body’ talks from them. It was on the journey westward that her mom became pregnant with Ellie, and Tommy told her how Joel protected her mom, cared for her, and died trying to save her. Joel was killed by an infected as she gave birth to Ellie, and her mom died in childbirth, Tommy found her bleeding out and promised to take care of Ellie… and that he did. That’s why he was so protective, she knew; he felt guilt over her parents deaths. This is the story Uncle Tommy, Uncle Zach, Aunt Maura and Aunt June repeated to her growing up, sprinkling little details and side quests of the journey, making it come alive….
Renzo never told her the story. She had the distinct feeling they all were lying, but about what, she didn’t know. There was a point in her youth she had wondered if Tommy was a real dad, but that was a passing phase. Uncle Lorenzo never lied, though. She could tell. He wouldn’t tell her the story even when she was sleeping over at her uncles who lived next door and was in the stage she wouldn't go to sleep without it, Uncle Zach always told it, not Lorenzo. Lorenzo talked about her mom, however. He told her stories about the fun they would have, the things they would do at the house they had all settled in, the time they spent together, they were really close it seemed. Lorenzo never talked about her dad. Lorenzo was the fun uncle, always taking her out for adventures as a kid, sticking up for her when she wanted to do something Tommy didn’t like.
Zach was the easiest to talk to. His calm demeanor was soothing, he never had big reactions to things. It was Zach that she told she got her period. Not that she thought any of them would cause a fuss or be grossed out, but she knew she could count on Zach to calm her when her sheets and clothes were red that morning. And that he did. When he heard her call down the hall to him as he had coffee with Lorenzo and Tommy, he came to the bathroom and explained the situation through a cracked door. Zach simply nodded, told her to take a shower and he’d take care of it. When she was done, Tommy had clean clothes, some pads he’d gotten from the neighbors, and had put her soiled sheets and clothes in the wash. He asked her if there was anything else she needed or wanted to talk about or ask, Ellie said no and he said okay and that he’d tell Tommy to make sure to keep pads from the store from then on. Maura and June came by a few days later for a ‘surprise visit’, but Ellie knew Zach asked them over in case there was anything you’d rather talk to a girl about. Uncle Zach was thoughtful like that.
She had a good life in Jackson, she knew. Horror stories of the likes outside her home town were proof of that; infected, yes, but the raiders were often worse. Murder, torture, rape…
Still, Ellie found herself wandering outside the city late at night, sneaking out the window on her ground floor bedroom. She didn’t have her gun, which she knew was stupid, but she figured her knife was enough; there wouldn’t be any dangers here, not with patrolmen out. Tommy had given her the knife when she was 8, saying that her mom had used it to kill the infected while in labor, protecting baby Ellie even though she just watched her husband get torn apart… the knife would protect her, he said, just like her mom, dad, and big sister Sarah did in heaven.
She was smart, she knew the patrol pattern, able to dodge the faces she knew that would turn her in to Tommy in a second. What would he do? He wouldn’t yell. He’d be disappointed. That was worse.
Yeah, she wouldn’t get caught by the patrol. She wouldn’t be caught by infected.
But the man she didn’t recognize in front of her was not something she was prepared for. A raider. Is he coming to steal a few horses and go? Is he scoping out the place for other to attack? Is he going to rape her, or kidnap her and traffick her and-
“Ellie June Miller.” The old man spoke soft as he stepped into the light of the stars, revealing his features. He was older, a few years older than Uncle Tommy at least with much more gray hair than him, shorter and a gruff beard. He was about the same height too, but broad, intimidating…
And he knew her full name.
She took a step back as he took a step forward. The man’s hands were stuffed into his jeans, a flannel over a gray t-shirt in the mid-spring night, an easy express on his face. “I know you’re probably confused.” He stopped walking when she startled at his words. “Can I just… lay it all out for you? Maybe that’ll make things easier on us both.” A light chuckle, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
Ellie was terrified, but she tried not to let it show. “O-okay.” She managed to only stutter a little bit on the words, forcing her voice to go deeper in an attempt to sound older.
A deep breath. Release. “I think your Uncles have been lying to you. Name’s Joel Miller” He reached out his hand, but Ellie was too stunned to speak, so Joel put it away, tucked back none threateningly in his pockets. He seemed to allow her a moment to put the pieces together herself before being straightforward as promised. “I’m your dad, Ellie, and I’ve been waiting for a chance to meet you. I didn’t mean to run into you just now but when I saw you… wow.” A light smile spread on his face as he chuckled. “You grew up. I just had to meet you.”
A faint eeeeee in her ear, she barely heard what Joel said, still trying to process the news. “No…” she shook her head. “No fucking way, my dad died, Tommy wouldn’t lie to me.” Despite the fact she knew they were lying… she didn’t think it could possible be about something as huge as to whether or not her dad was alive… was her mom? Why was she with Tommy? Why did they lie? How much did they lie about? Ellie’s world shattered beneath her, crumbling down as she picked apart every bit of her identity in milliseconds. She could hear his voice calling her name, but she couldn’t brake out. It was all muffled around her, and Ellie found herself suddenly breathless, chest aching for air she couldn’t grasp. What was happening to her? Was she sick? Had he poisoned her with some kind of toxic gas? Everything was falling apart around her.
“Hey” His voice broke through, suddenly closer and hands on her face. “Ellie June, look at me” Ellie’s eyes snapped up to his, deep and brown and worried. “Hey it’s okay, it’s okay baby girl, I need you to breathe, alright? Deep breath in, deep breath out- look at me- deep breath in, deep breath out.” Joel continued to guide her, focusing her breaths until she calmed down, taking a small step away from the stranger whose hand was on her face, and he took a step back in turn.
Ellie still felt unwell, but more like she was going to live.
“I think you had an anxiety attack.” Joel spoke in a soft tone. “I get them sometimes too. Never when I was so young but… you’ve gotten some big news.”
She shook her head. “You gotta be fucking lying to me,”
“Wouldn’t lie to you.” He paused, allowing Ellie some time to breathe. “Can I… can I explain things? You don’t gotta see me again I just… I don’t want you think’n I didn’t want yuh or noth’n.” He shuffled in place, eyes glancing down.
“Um… yeah, I guess…” She wasn’t sure how much information she could take, but she was determined to know the truth.
Joel took a deep breath. “I know the story your family told you. Some of it’s true, some ain’t.”
“My mom…” A glimmer of hope.
“I’m sorry, but she really is dead. Not entirely different from what you know. I can give you the whole story if you’d like but… it’s getting late, sun will be up soon. I’ll give you the run down and if you decide you wanna see me again… we can meet here next week? Around midnight?”
“Tell me first. Prove to me you’re not lying.” Ellie insisted, refusing to be lied to again.
With a nod, he began. “I met your mom a few hours from Jackson. Your grandpa was a right bastard, I think Zach’s said something similar, but telling you he’s from Boston. That ain’t true, but his dad was a horrible person. Tommy and I had a group stationed a few hours south, we offered protection to land we controlled for a fee and-”
“Raiders.” She said plainly. Uncle Tommy was a raider? She couldn’t believe it. “I know you’re lying, Tommy wouldn’t do that shit.”
“I assure you,he would.” He spoke with a smile. “But he was always the softer one. Raider ain’t what you think, not how we did it, not how I do things now… we offer protection, we keep people safe. Jackson has been under that protection for free since you got here, Ellie June. I wanted to keep you safe.”
Growing impatient, and maybe a little tired, Ellie motioned him to go on. “Keep talking, I don’t have all night”
“No” He chuckled, “I suppose you don’t. Anyway, your grandpa’s farm was on my property, and we fell in love. I took her away from the abuse she was suffering, we got married, became pregnant with you.” His smile was wistful, bittersweet in the memories, but sad in the loss. “That knife you have, that used to be mine. I gave it to her and I sure am glad, she used it to defend you from an infected, that much is true.” The tears in his eyes were evident, and Ellie felt her own emotions mirroring the pain in his voice. It was clear he loved her mom very much, he spoke with the same reverence uncle Tommy did. “I may have lost her, but I couldn’t have lived with myself if I lost you too. Well, I supposed I did, but… you were alive, you were being taken care of.” He smiled proudly. “I was furious with Tommy, but I knew he’d care for you. And he did. Grew up strong, just like your mama.”
“They wh-y” Ellie hated how her voice croaked, how she choked up at the hurt of being left behind. She was supposed to be better than this, stronger… “Why did you leave me?”
The sadness flodded his face again. “Oh baby girl, I never meant to… Tommy he…” Joel hesitated, opening and closing his mouth like he was trying to find the right words.
“He what?!” She pleaded for answers, she needed to know, she needed to understand how much of her life was a lie.
“I was trying to find a better way to phrase this but… He took you, Ellie June. Said I wasn’t fit to raise you, and fucking took you. Only gotta hold you once, and he left… I couldn’t do anything about it, I had just lost your mom minutes ago, I just…  I was so broken down, I felt like a failure of a father, a husband, I couldn’t protect the two of you… I was afraid I’d lose you like Sarah.”
You had been told about Sarah, his daughter, Tommy’s other niece, your older sister you never got to meet that died on outbreak day. Every September 26th, Uncle Tommy spends the day alone. “Uncle Tommy just… took me?” Tear were in her eyes now, threatening to spill over, but she refused to allow it.
“Yeah, he did, but I don’t want you blame’n him, he was doing what he thought was best for your, for your moms memory. They were good friends… He didn’t think an old raider was fit to raise a little girl.”
“But he was a raider!” Ellie shouted, everything was confusing, her head hurt, her heart ached as she felt core things she knew slipping away. The man she loved the most in this entire world had lied to her about the most fundamental aspect of her identify and existence and now nothing made sense. She didn’t know who to trust if she could trust her uncles. She couldn’t trust Maura or June. The only person she trusted in this moment was the man she just met.
“I know, I know. But he did good, took you here to Jackson… Honestly thought he’d raise you with Maria, but that didn’t pan out.”
You know Tommy used to be involved with the town's leader, Maria, simply stating it ‘didn’t work out’, but you now wondered if there were other factors. Maria had always been kind to you, either way.
“Uncle Zach, Uncle Lorenzo, Aunt June and Maura… what about them?”
“Lorenzo was on my team.”
Renzo was a raider? He definitely was more believable than Tommy. Uncle Lorenzo was a ‘spitfire’ as Uncle Zach would say… but her uncle was so kind, so fun loving, so down to earth… she couldn’t imagine him like that either. “Was Uncle Zach?”
Joel denied that, and Ellie let go of a breath. Zach was someone with very strong morals, strong will. He knew what he thought was right and wrong and stuck by it, which Ellie found admirable. If Zach was a raider, nothing would be left in his world that would make sense to her.
“Lorenzo met Zach through her, they hit it off, been inseparable ever since. Heard Zach took his last name? They get married or something?”
Ellie confirmed this, making Joel hum. “Good for them. I’m glad they were there for you, baby girl.”
“Aunt June and Maura?” Ellie pressed on. She needed to know everything, who knew what, what happened, how much each individual person lied to her…
“June was your moms friend back when lived on your grandpa’s farm. Jack was one of my men, and when your mom was pregnant with you, he brought Maura to be the midwife. Maura eventually met June and I suppose they got together at some point. If I’m being honest, I didn’t know them very well, just that your mom wanted your middle name to be June.”
If I’m being honest.
Nothing made sense anymore. Her dad was alive. Tommy essentially kidnapped her. Her dad was a raider. Tommy was a raider. Renzo was a raider. Hell, fucking Jack, her distant relative she’d only met twice was a raider and even that was enough to cause her to feel nauseous. She was furious, she was confused, she had to be wrong…
If I’m being honest.
“No” Ellie whispered, shaking her head. Why would she believe a stranger above the men who raised her? Above Tommy? Tommy, who had always done right by her, always been good, so, so good… how could she think he was capable of all Joel accused him of. “No. Fuck you! I DON’T BELIEVE YOU!” Screaming, Ellie turned around and dashed back towards the house, not stopping as Joel called to her, the pain and hurt clear in his voice as he begged and pleaded for her to stay… but she couldn’t.
Ellie made it back before sunup, staying up the rest of the night with eyes wide open, thinking… it was wrong, it was all wrong. He had to be lying, he had to be fucking with her… but how did he know who she was? How did he know her full name? No one ever called her Ellie June…
“Hey honey bun” Tommy called her by her nickname as she trotted downstairs. Tommy said he always called her mom ‘Honey’, so it seemed fitting that you liked honey buns so much as a kid. The name stuck. “You’re up early.”
“Meeting up with Dina” Ellie couldn’t tell Dina what happened last night… but any time Ellie saw her, she felt better.
“Alright, can I get you to stay for breakfast? I made your favorite. I feel like I never get a chance to talk to you anymore, always wanna hang out with your cooler uncle who lets you do dangerous things.” He lamented, but his tone was joking.
Ellie agreed, sitting down at the table as she watched her beloved uncle make her breakfast, eventually setting a plate, making a terrible joke about ‘honey buns for my honey bun’ that he made every time. They talked, like they always did, like it was easy to. Tommy was easy going like that. Outside of him being her family, Ellie really did enjoy being around him. This, this was right. Tommy wouldn’t lie. Tommy isn’t a raider. Tommy wouldn’t steal his niece. Tommy was good.
“Uncle Tommy?”
“Si, Ellie belly?”
“I’ve been thinking a lot… about my parents.”
Ellie watched as his face fell, sadness and pain in his eyes. “What about? Anything specific?”
She decided to test the waters. “I’ve just… been dreaming a lot lately, having a bunch of dreams my dad is alive.”
It was a spit second. It was barely there. She wouldn’t even notice if she hadn’t been looking.
But Tommy looked like he got caught, right before reverting back to his normal self. “I’m sorry, Ellie. I wish he was alive as much as you do. Your dad was a good man, and a good brother. I miss him every day.”
Just then, Ellie realized Joel was telling the truth, or at the very least Tommy was lying.

THE GANG IS BACK!!!!
Someone too my shift tomorrow and I have the forth off so I think I can actually get the alt ending out this week!!! Im sorry its taking forever but I wanted this out first so that when I put the alt ending, I can let everyone know the canon story is continuing for 5 chapters with Ellie 16 years later.
I really hope you guys enjoy this, I know it wont be nearly as popular but genuinely I think this will be a good story and tie more things up.
I love you all, Thank you so much for all the support you've given.
Remember, reblogs are the only way this gets spread and while likes are lovely, they don't help it come to other people unlike other social media. Comments keep me writing and mean the entire world to me.
