17 - did any books surprise you with how good they were?

I'm not sure if it was my favourite book I read this year but I really liked The Apollo Murders by Chris Hadfield! I've loved his non-fiction but I'll admit I was wondering if his fiction would hold up. And it did! It was gripping, the last half or so I was totally glued to the page and I really liked how he kind of snuck little infodumps in about flying or being in space or what have you.

I also feel like I haven't read many if any cold war thrillers and I had a lot of fun! So maybe the way to get me to read a new genre is to make it also about space :P

god yeah the plotting is So Good and I do genuinely also really love how like. even though pretty much everything that happens is very complicated and has lots of moving pieces, they do a really good job of laying it out for the audience and I like to see things happening and plots coming together from different angles, it’s very neat!!

I’ve read What We Pretend We Can’t See! gyzym, always so good. and such a gift to see they’re still writing fic in 2017, too, ‘cause i remember their night vale and captain america fic and those were from 2012

when by now and tree by leaf looks lovely. Unfortunately mpreg and infidelity are not my thing, though the author’s note was very much appreciated, and from the number of kudos and comments they have, i’m sure they don’t need my opinion hahaha

Dwelling took me all day to read, and every word was a joy! The Boy Who Lived working through his trauma and balancing the feeling of not being needed with the overwhelming warmth, friendship and love he has from his best friends, and addressing his longing for the family he never had, and people who died and can’t come back. it’s so sweet, tender and painful, and dives into the complicated after-effects of its magical premise and everything that it says about its characters. In a more lighthearted fic, the premise would be the sort of thing you class alongside sex pollen, tropey and fun and a perfect plot device for getting people together but here it’s so much more than that. Heartbreakingly soft and Inception levels of mindfuck, I loved it

five favorite fruit flavors? (not fruits, but fruit flavors!)

Ooh, a good question! Thank you!

1. Lemon: Not like, super sour lemon, but the stuff that aims to taste more like lemon zest or even mellower than that? Not only do I enjoy it, but it’s a relatively reliable bet for fruit flavored things.

2. Lime/Lemon-lime: Similar to the above, but slightly more likely to be a miss on its own. Lemon-lime is usually acceptable and also tasty, though.

3. Orange: Can drift to the syrupy/cloying, but usually has a little bit of tartness to it and is generally pretty mild. A tasty option!

4. Watermelon: Does Not Taste At All Like Actual Watermelon, but generally mild and fairly sweet without being overly so, so I’m pretty fond of it!

5. Tamarind: I’ve only had a few tamarind flavored things, but I’ve really enjoyed them! I actually currently have a bag of tamarind hard candies I need to dig out of the pantry that remind me a little of like, watermelon jello but better.

Hiya, just dropping a note to thank you for the tip about the silicone garlic peeler tube thingies. I bought one and tried it out, and I have already realized that it's lifechanging!

Glad to be of service! There are too many elaborate, pricey kitchen gadgets with which to clutter the cupboards. A cheap and simple one which works so well and takes up almost no shelf space deserves to be better known, especially if you like garlic like I like garlic, and I like garlic a lot. (That could be a song. Take “If you knew Susie” and mess with it...)
