Holy bleeping mother of all the gods in heaven, hell, and everywhere else that has ever existed.
Liquid Death really DOES live up to the hype!
I haven't tried the plain water yet, but I splurged a little on a grocery order and bought the Mango Chainsaw, which isn't only mango but has *orange* in it? And it's so freaking GOOD. (If you like the taste of orange and mango, of course.)
This was a special delight because I had found a carbonated black tea with mango thing on sale in the same order, which Sounded really good in theory, because I like black tea and I love mango, but it was in fact Nasty. I'm not sure how they made black tea with a little lemon and mango taste sour and bitter and sharp instead of refreshing and mildly sweet, but they sure did.
This one's lightly sweetened, so that may be a factor, but every sip is a Delight and I am so, SO glad I bought this.
I like water itself well enough, but this is going to make re-hydrating after barely drinking enough in the past 24 hours Quite Nice.
(I don't usually do food reviews, but this genuinely Wow'd me.)

The day of the event finally came. I’d been looking forward to Emo Nite for almost a month now, ever since my best friend called me screaming that the new date had been announced. You’d think being in university with the event manager would help stifle the excitement over it since we could get any information about it whenever we wanted, but it’d been months since the two of us had gone out anywhere. It was the only thing on my mind as I dragged myself through my lectures, 3 pm could not have come any sooner. Finally, as the last lecture of the day came to an end, I started packing up my notes, trying to figure out what I was going to wear.
My apartment was a short walk away from the university, the club, and our favourite gym, therefore this entire day was made that much easier as I didn’t have to depend on public transportation to get anywhere.
Just as I opened the front door to my place that I shared with my best friend and roommate, I was attacked by my favourite playlist blasting from her room, the playlist I had made for her to get in the zone for these kinds of parties, all consisting of the music I had got moaned at for listening to in my teens. It very obviously was not a phase, mom.
“You should put on 3OH!3” I let myself into her room.
“I don’t know what that means!!” She was frantically going through her wardrobe looking for something to wear.
“Give me the phone, trust me,” I said with a wink.
I clicked on the song and noticed some of my own clothes strewn over her bed, evidence that both of us currently had the same issue to decide on. I loved showing her the music I u̶s̶e̶d̶ t̶o̶ listen to as she never got to experience peak emo and scene culture in the town where she grew up.
“What the fuck kind of line is ‘I’m a vegetarian and I ain’t fucking scared of him’”
“Mai, don’t question peak songwriting. It’s iconic.”
She rolled her eyes, but I knew she was enjoying it.
It was my turn to cook so I got to work preparing food for both of us before a well-deserved rest. Since I’d never been good at estimating the amount of rice needed for two people, there was now a full pot of leftovers that I promptly put away while cleaning up.
The music blasting from Mai’s room was making me dance around the kitchen and postponing the tiredness I’d felt ever since opening my eyes in the morning. To take advantage of that burst of energy, I cleaned up all surfaces in the kitchen and dining room, giving Mai a break from her turn for cleaning that day, and moved on to the bathroom, where I made sure everything looked decent enough not to put me into a slump when we wake up the next day. Satisfied with the work, it was time to take a short nap before going to the gym.
“Maybe this was a mistake, maybe we were too ambitious to plan to go out after the gym.” My friend complained on the way home.
“Well, maybe you should’ve done a low-intensity set like me like I told you! Because I’m feeling great!”
“I’m too old for this shit.”
“You’re 22! I dread to think how you’ll feel when you’re 80.”
She just stuck her tongue out at me in response.
Both of us felt rejuvenated after a shower and it was high time to start getting dressed and doing our makeup. The playlist was back on and so was the random singing and shouting. I decided on a black blink-182 top, black jeans that are so ripped that I put fishnets on underneath, and an oversized denim jacket over the top.
The guitar pick necklace matched the t-shirt and all that was left was to put a fuck ton of eyeliner on. I went into Mai’s room to check on her and, damn, she looked incredible. She’d fit right in with her shorts, completely ripped black tights, Linkin Park t-shirt, and a plaid shirt wrapped tightly around her waist. I wolf-whistled.
“Not sure I can let you out like that, Mai.”
“Is something wrong with it? Is it too much? Oh no it’s too much isn’t it…”
“Hell no I’m just thinking of the best way to swat people away when they start swarming you.”
She smirked at the comment “You look just like you did in your old photos…just with better hair.”
“Please don’t remind me, I can still smell the hair spray.”
We sat on the floor and started doing our makeup, occasionally changing songs on her speakers and cracking stupid jokes. When we were done it was around 10 pm and Mai insisted on taking photos before leaving. My eyeliner sort of matched her plaid shirt, big black wings with red lines underneath, on my inner corners, and slicing through my eyebrows. On the lips, I opted for black-red ombre lipstick hoping it doesn’t transfer onto my cup of whatever I chose to drink.
The walk to the club was pleasant as it wasn’t too cold or too hot. With those last breaths of fresh air of the night, we walked in and found our names on the list to be let inside. The space wasn’t very big, but it had only a few open windows so I felt sweat dripping down my back almost as soon as we got to the dance floor. Waving at the DJ and the event manager, we made our way to the bar. Mai started flirting with the bartender and I really had to respect the swiftness with which she got her first free drink of the night.
I grabbed my extortionately priced can of Red Bull and a straw and headed to the floor. There was quite a big crowd of people on one end of the room so we danced our way to the other side. The big reason why I loved going out with Mai is that she left all her shyness at home and sang from the top of her lungs even if her words were wrong. I, on the other hand, had to be broken out of my shell every time.
After a while, having gotten comfortable with a big crowd of people all around us, I started noticing familiar faces walking in. Some of Mai’s friends from one of her lectures were there and we very quickly joined them in carving out some space for our group on the dancefloor. I could feel the makeup melting and everyone was getting water to freshen up so I decided to venture out to find the nearest toilet. Mai followed me out and kept singing as we walked past a group of guys, one of whom nearly knocked me into the wall.
“Watch it, assholes!” She shouted after them as I was regaining balance.
There was broken glass stuck in the soles of my vans and I could feel it scrape the floor as I walked on.
“I swear some people don’t understand the concept of personal space, are you okay?” her worrying was adorable.
“Yeah, I just have to pick out the glass from my soles now. He didn’t even apologise, did he?”
“Nah, that’s okay I’ll find him back inside and feed him my fist though, don’t you worry.” I laughed as she pretended to punch the hand dryer. We tried to dab some sweat off of our faces with toilet paper but soon gave up as it would probably build up as soon as we stepped back into the room. Heading back, my favourite song came on and I had to sprint to get back to our group and share my excitement with others.
“I really fucking love this song!” I shouted into someone’s ear, only to realise it was not one of my people, but the very asshole that pushed me in the hallway minutes before, along with his friends. He looked me up and down and, smirking like I was a child expressing their enjoyment of an animated film, chuckled “Good for you”.
I turned to find Mai, but she had already seen the interaction and followed what happened with raised eyebrows.
“Was that…”
“Someone that still needs to get punched for being a dick? Yeah that’s the guy.”
“Mai, he’s hot. Why didn’t you tell me he was this hot! I would’ve pushed myself to save him the trouble of doing it himself if he needed me to!”
“I can’t hear half the words you just said and I don’t think I want to. You’re too sexually frustrated for your own good.”
Still I couldn’t stop picturing his face as he looked me up and down. Did he like what he saw? Did he find me cringe? Did he realise I was the person he pushed? I could’ve sworn I caught a glimpse of adorable fangs in his mouth, was he one of those weirdos that wore fake fangs to emo events?
Mai dragged me to the bar to get another drink, but I kept scanning the room to find the asshole vampire guy. With a new can in hand, I went towards the DJ to talk to the event manager. She was a really cool girl I had met waiting for our professor to start the lecture because both of us wore the same band t-shirt. Ever since she started organising these parties, Mai and I have been on the list and stayed until the very end of the party.
“What’s wrong? You never not sing along to Ocean Avenue,” Hana waved in front of my face. Mai chuckled and told her I was just too horny to function.
“Who’s the target tonight?” Hana asked with a massive grin.
“That long-haired asshole next to the bar,” Mai pointed towards him and his group of friends, all of them with drinks in their hands and not really dancing or looking like they were there for the music.
They kept talking while I made my way back out of the room to get some air and space to think. When someone stood next to where I was crouching, I assumed it was Mai trying to get me back inside.
“Sorry about pushing you earlier,” a voice that definitely wasn’t Mai’s said.
I looked up and was greeted by a pair of bronze eyes and a serious face framed by long black hair. Leaning on the wall with hands in his pockets, it was Asshole Vampire from before. The one I couldn’t stop looking for in the crowd, now he stood next to me where I could hear him better. I quickly stood up and swayed a little from getting up too fast.
“I didn’t think you even noticed someone falling and stepping on glass because of you.” My voice was vibrating from screaming along with the music earlier.
“I know it’s not really an excuse, but I tried to get back as soon as possible to hear the song that was playing. I love Black Veil Brides.” He chuckled and looked down.
I looked him over, he was wearing a white button-up shirt that was slightly unbuttoned, black jeans, and black Converse. His hair was long and shiny, falling forward nonchalantly.
“I will say that just might be a good enough reason, I’ll try to call off the hit I put on you.” I tried sounding casual despite the fact that he was standing so close to me I could feel the warmth of his body.
“That would be great, thanks. You have a good music taste, apparently. Good Charlotte is one of my favourite bands.”
I looked at him and blushed, that meant he definitely knew it was me shouting in his ear earlier.
“Yeah, sorry about that, I thought you were someone I knew.”
He looked amused, “I’m Keisuke. Now I’m also someone you know.”
I shook his hand, trying to secretly admire his beautiful long fingers. “Yuna. I don’t think I’ve seen you here before.”
“I’ve never managed to get my friends to come with me before, and I’m not the type to go out to clubs by myself.”
“Well, I hope you get them to come next time as well, I’ve been to every Emo Nite and they’re always amazing. I’m friends with the event manager as well.” Wow shut up, I thought to myself, who gives a shit.
“They’re not really into the same music, that’s why we’re just standing there like statues. Just observing. Like a bunch of creeps.”
That made me shiver a bit. Was I actually holding a conversation with this guy? If only Mai could see me now…she’d probably run over to punch Keisuke in the face.
“I get it, luckily, my friend is discovering this music now and likes it, I’ve been into it since I was probably 10.”
“Ahhh, the right age to sing about all the greatest pains in life, back before you even knew what the real world was.” He stared ahead like he knew that pain now.
“Yeah, but it’s been 12 years since then, and it’s still my day-to-day music.”
“You’re 22 then?” He looked back at me, “Are you from around here? We could’ve been in the same year..”
“I moved here for university.” Okay great, he was my age and he had the same music taste. I couldn’t help but wonder what his lips would taste like…
“You know I can see you staring at my lips, right?” He grinned, obviously very pleased with himself having caught me staring.
“Hm? Oh…yeah. You’re insanely gorgeous, sorry,” I cringed at myself. What the fuck is wrong with me? May as well go get Mai and head home, there is no way I could enjoy my night after this. A soft chuckle escaped his mouth “Likewise, I didn’t get a very good look at you inside, but now that I can see you properly, I’m really glad I came out to check on you.”
Wait, what? “Check on me?”
“It seemed like you were unwell, and when you headed out I wanted to make sure you didn’t collapse or something,” he shrugged. My heart started pounding, he was looking at me inside? He worried about me? He wanted to help me? Woah.
“That’s very kind, coming from the guy who almost flattened me with the wall.”
He threw his head back and laughed, “Are you going to hold that against me forever?”
“Maybe,” I smiled at him, “unless you make it up to me.”
He turned to face me completely.
“Well, how about we head back inside to enjoy some music together, and you think of a way for me to me it up to you?”
I took in his gorgeous jawline and the canines peeking through his lips.
“Lead the way, Keisuke.”
We went back inside, I immediately started scanning the crowd for Mai or Hana. They waved me over to them and I grabbed Keisuke’s hand to lead him to them. Mai’s eyes went wide and I knew we were going to have to talk about this later.
“Keisuke, this is Mai, my best friend, and that’s Hana, she organised this event,” I shouted into his ear, inhaling the scent of his hair.
Mai looked him up and down and Hana shook his hand. I was pleading with Mai with my eyes not to beat the shit out of him right then and there, signalling that I didn’t want him dead.
“I’m going to stay over at Hana’s tonight, if that’s okay with you, Yuna.” Hana turned to her with questions in her eyes, but Mai pinched her arm and smiled at her.
Was she trying to give me some kind of a signal? Keisuke looked between us, all I could do was just nod and go dance. It seemed too convenient that the next song that was playing was a slow one. Keisuke grabbed my hand, “I assume you want to dance to blink-182,” he nodded at my t-shirt and necklace.
I couldn’t believe it. We’d been dancing for several songs now, surprisingly, he’s actually got rhythm. Mai decided to stay with Hana and not come back for me, which normally never happens. It was always the two of us against everyone in the room. Maybe she saw the tension between Keisuke and me - wait…was there tension between Keisuke and me? He was looking down at me and smiling most of the time, save for when he was belting out to the music. Especially when both of us were singing the wrong lyrics to Fall Out Boy. After a while, he dragged me to the hallway to speak to me.
“Do you want to get out of here?” He looked at me intensely. It took me a few seconds to catch on.
“What did you have in mind?”
“Do you live nearby?”
This wasn’t weird, right? To the rational part of my brain, it sounded like a bad idea, but I’d been imagining what his lips would feel like on my neck for a good part of the night.
“Yeah, walking distance,” As soon as I said that he leaned down and caught my lips with his. I reached for his neck and brought him closer, deepening the kiss. His lips were soft and I could smell his shampoo as his hair fell to tickle my face. There was a low vibration in the back of his throat. When he broke the kiss he looked into my eyes like he was trying to read them. I could get lost just staring at his face. He smiled and took my hand, “Lead the way, Yuna.”
I fumbled around my pockets trying to text Mai while he let his friends know he wasn’t going home with them. It seemed like a fortunate coincidence that Mai was staying over at Hana’s tonight.
Yunaaaaasty, 01:28
i’m going home with vampire guy, am i making the biggest mistake of my life?
Mai Darling, 01:29
thought so :) why did you think i made Hana let me stay over?
Yunaaaaasty, 01:29
you’re a mastermind and i owe you for this
Mai Darling, 01:30
oh yes you do but honestly it’s not as fun singing i’m not okay without you <3333
just let me know if you’re dead or alive in the morning so i can alert the police kbye have fun ;)
I looked up as Keisuke reached for my hand, his grip was so warm it immediately made my heart jump. I could feel warmth pooling in my stomach in anticipation of what might happen in just a few short minutes. Keisuke kept asking me questions about my life on our way there, though I wasn’t exactly sure why he was so curious if this was to be only a one-time thing. Maybe he was trying to determine if I was a psycho killer of some sort…or maybe he was? Oh well, he was so gorgeous I wouldn’t mind dying if it meant having some fun with him beforehand.
We walked up the stairs and he started kissing behind my ear. My skin felt tight in anticipation of his touch and I felt myself shiver as his kisses trailed down to my neck.
“You’re distracting me, I’m trying to get us inside at least,” I chuckled at him.
“How long does it normally take you to unlock your front door?”
“Hey it’s difficult finding the key in this mess of keychains, now I have you making me thinking about uhhh…other things as well.”
He moved to my lips and nipped at my bottom lip. “Oh and what is it that I’m making you think about?” There is no way I was saying that out loud outside my apartment, so I just pushed the door open and dragged him inside after me.
~
I started taking my denim jacket off all the while not breaking the kiss and leading him to my bedroom. I shut the door and clumsily shook off my Vans, starting to unbutton his shirt. He looked at me with hungry eyes, his hands travelling along my hips and up to my breasts. Luckily, the fairy lights around my bed frame were left on so I could see his eyes as he was drinking in the lust in my eyes. When he shrugged off his shirt, he started unbuttoning my jeans and pushed me toward my desk, still messy with my coursework and at least four dictionaries and other heavy tomes. I broke the kiss to put the books away when he chuckled, “Damn, I was kind of hoping to knock it over in the heat of the moment and eat you out on top of the desk,” As hot as that would’ve been, this was the product of a month of research and hard work and it deserved to be put away safely.
“If I hadn’t spent all my sanity working on this paper I would say yes.”
“Can I still eat you out at least?” I felt my knees threatening to give out, why was his saying that so damn hot?
“Please,” I moaned into his mouth and started to peel my fishnets off when he grabbed my hands to stop me.
“Keep them on,” his breathy voice rolled into my ear, “but how attached are you to those panties?”
This confused me, but he already grabbed the fabric of my underwear and started ripping them on the side and casting them away. He lifted me up and put me on top of my desk, now trailing his mouth down my torso to where my panties were a few seconds ago. His large hands ripped the crotch of my tights and started putting his hair up into a ponytail. I hadn’t noticed the hair tie that had been around his wrist until he took it off and held it with his teeth.
My head spun when he lowered his lips to my heat and started to lick long strokes between the folds. Leaning back on my hands, I let out a breathy moan that made him chuckle into me and start sucking on my clit.
“Oh my..Keisuke yes,” I couldn’t keep it in anymore, his tongue swirled all around the most sensitive area and when I looked down at his face his eyes were set on me, as if he needed to make sure I was coming undone. As if my moans and hitched breaths weren’t enough of a sign, he needed to see it with his own eyes.
My hand went to the base of his ponytail to bring him closer to me, as I did so it felt like he dug in with an even stronger intensity than before. I was nearing my peak when he inserted a finger inside me. I could feel his lips spreading into a smile when he saw my reaction like he was saving that move until the end.
“Let go, Yuna. If you cum on my tongue now I’ll let you ride me.” That was all that was needed to push me over the edge and make me shake with pleasure while his hand held me down on the desk.
He got up and pulled my t-shirt off, slowly unbuckling my bra and adding it to the pile of clothes on the floor. Keisuke let his hair back down and started pulling my hair into a ponytail, tying it with his hair tie. I pushed him onto my bed and crawled up to his crotch, pulling his jeans down as he pushed his Converse off his feet.
When I pulled down his boxers I was met with his hard cock slapping his abdomen and, looking up into his eyes, gave the head an experimental lick. His eyelashes fluttered and he closed his eyes so I took it as a sign to continue.
Keisuke let out the sweetest moan when I took as much of his length as I could into my mouth, one hand on his shaft, the other on the balls. With long, circular motions, my tongue slid all over his cock, licking off any drops of precum it dripped.
His balls were in my hand, softly being massaged, causing him to huff and moan softly. His hand reached for my hair and grabbed it to lead me how he wanted me. He held me in place as his hips thrust up. As his thrusts got more and more frantic, my throat had had enough, so I released his balls from my hand and grabbed the hand that was holding my ponytail signalling I needed a break.
He released me and dragged me up to his face to kiss me, but I had to get things moving to get him inside of me as soon as possible.
Leaning over to my bedside table, I pushed aside my phone and Polaroid camera, grabbed a condom from the drawer, and turned on some music, “Alexa, play Oh My Word It’s Happening playlist.” When the first song started playing, he let out a laugh,
“Really, First Date?”
“Hey, I want to make this night last forever, okay?”
I handed him the condom and straddled his abdomen, leaning in to kiss him deeply. Keisuke’s hair was spread over the pillow like a dark halo, framing his beautiful face, I almost forgot how to breathe. His hands were trailing along my thighs, still covered with fishnet tights, as I positioned myself above his hard cock, slowly lowering myself down, his eyes rolling back and filthy moans escaping his soft lips.
When I sunk fully onto his cock, I couldn’t help myself but let out a high-pitched moan which seemed to wake him from the bliss he was in. He grabbed my hips and helped me bounce myself on him. The thickness that spread my walls made me feel full, and each thrust scratched an impossible itch inside me. When Keisuke started grunting with each thrust I knew he was nearing his peak. I reached to rub my clit with one hand, but he swiftly knocked it aside and replaced it with his own. I threw my head back in pure pleasure and let out all the pent-up pressure from my throat as I came all over his dick, he followed soon after with an animalistic moan and stopped thrusting.
He looked spent and let go of my hips, I needed to burn the image of him lying underneath me into the insides of my eyelids. I reached over to grab my camera,
“Do you mind if I take one of you?” I motioned with the camera. He gave me a small smile,
“Is this some kind of a psycho killer trophy you’re collecting?”I couldn’t help but laugh,
“Maybe, but I want to remember this.” He nodded with a blissful smile, so I looked through a viewfinder and pushed the button. Putting the camera aside, I got off of him and lay next to him, gently taking the condom off and launching it into the bin.
~
“I feel obligated to mention that I’ve never done this before,” He raised his eyebrow at my comment, causing me to correct myself, “I mean, I’ve never brought someone home like this, especially after just meeting them.” He was tracing shapes on my stomach, all the while staring into my eyes.
“Me neither,” he admitted, “I’m still not convinced you’re not some psycho killer taking advantage of young men, taking salacious photos of them, and then disposing of their corpses in the nearby bushes.” I just had to laugh at the notion,
“You seem to have put a lot of thought into this scenario, are you sure you’re not the murderer?” He leaned over to place a kiss on my shoulder,
“Well, I guess we’ll find out soon enough.” Looking over at him, I took in his loose hair, now messy and half-resting on my pillows.
“Honestly, after this, I think I would gladly let you kill me. I don’t remember the last time I felt this good.” When Keisuke pulled me closer to him, resting his hand on my hip, I swear I could have floated away.
After some conversation that sounded way too casual considering the way we had just made each other feel, I heard Keisuke’s stomach rumble so I offered to get him some food and dragged him out of bed and into the kitchen. He managed to put his boxers back on while I put on my pyjama top and we made way to investigate the food situation.
“I’ve got some leftovers from today, I mean, I guess it’s technically yesterday now.” I pulled out the tub with leftover fried rice and chicken and stuck it into the microwave while he inspected the fridge door that was littered with polaroids of Mai and me, some from our work with other coworkers, some of us cuddling her cats from back home, some of our birthday and end-of-exams parties, and others of my old dance group from different competitions we attended.
“You have cats?” He seemed really interested in all individual photos.
“Ah, no, those are Mai’s parents’ cats. They live in the middle of nowhere and have a bunch of animals, unfortunately, we couldn’t get any of her pets here when we moved in,” I pointed at another photo of me with a big black labrador sitting on the beach, “That’s my dog, but he lives with my parents, as I’m too busy to take care of a dog right now.” He nodded and looked over a few more photos before stepping towards me and pushing a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
At that moment the microwave beeped and I went to grab the food and plate it up. We ate standing in the kitchen, neither of us feeling inclined to move away from each other. Keisuke was stuffing his face like he hadn't eaten in days,
“I think you need to slow down,” I said with a smirk.
“This is amazing, I can’t stop,” he said with his mouth full.
When he was done, he started to put the plates into the dishwasher and I offered him something to drink. With him in the kitchen, I made my way to the bathroom to wipe my makeup off, noticing the lipstick hadn’t transferred at all. Keisuke appeared behind me when I had taken off most of the makeup and started touching my ass. Luckily I didn’t put any underwear on, remembering how he ripped the pair I wore earlier. I looked at him through the mirror and smiled at his gentle caresses. He seemed entranced by my skin and started making his way towards my bare heat. Gently rubbing my sensitive lips, he elicited soft moans from my lips. Our eyes met in the mirror and he returned my smile,
“You’re so beautiful, did you know that? I loved seeing you with  the makeup, but this,” he reached for my cheek with his hand, the other one still rubbing my pussy, “is incredible.”
He grabbed my face and kissed it, making me moan into his mouth which made him change his approach and sink a finger inside of me. He groaned when my walls sucked his finger in, adding another and hooking them to hit the most sensitive spot inside. My legs started shaking with pleasure, which seemed to amuse him enough to giggle and move to stand right behind me, spreading my legs.
“I don’t know what it is about you,” Keisuke whispered, “but you’re making me feel feral, like no amount of touching you will ever be enough,” his voice was making me wet with desire.
“Feral? We can do it like they do it on the Discovery channel then,” I invited him for another round. I opened one of the drawers under the sink and passed him a condom, causing him to chuckle,
“Very convenient.”
“We like to be prepared,” he aligned his once again hard cock with my entrance and pushed in, throwing his head back in pleasure, my back arching to get a better angle, still holding the edges of the sink. He pushed into me until I couldn’t take any more and gasped loudly. He stopped and started pulling out and pushing back in, only up to the point I could handle. This angle made hitting the sensitive spot so much easier, it made me gasp and whine with every single one of his thrusts. His hands were squeezing my ass like it was the only thing keeping him grounded on this Earth. His cock was buried deep inside of me, hitting my most sensitive areas, pulling me apart from the inside.
I threw my head back and Keisuke took the opportunity to grab my jaw and pull me towards his face. He was grunting into my ear and kissing my neck, I was certain I wouldn’t last much longer.
With his teeth, he scraped along my neck. With a cry, I creamed on his cock, which only seemed to make him go faster and harder. “Good girl, hold on tight,” he whispered into my ear, letting go of my jaw and instead holding the base of my ponytail as I held onto the wall in front of me for dear life. One of his hands snaked around me and found my clit, rubbing it in circular motions, sending me into another orgasm, this one louder than the last.
Never breaking pace, he chuckled and smacked my ass three times before returning both his hands on my ass, pulling me into his hips repeatedly.
“Faster Keisuke, please!” I cried out, and he obliged. Soon after that I felt another wave of pleasure threatening to swallow me whole. Just as I started crying out his name again, he moaned into my hair and finished, slowing his thrust leading us both through our orgasms. Once he stopped, our eyes locked in the mirror once more, I didn’t know if I had it in me to smile at him. His cock slid out of me and he took off the condom and threw it away, spinning me around to kiss me with all the energy he had left. I had half a mind to thank him, but I couldn’t form words anymore, I just grabbed his hand and led him back into my bedroom, cuddling into him on the bed.
~
“Yuna?”
“Hmmm?”
“Are you okay?”
Turning around to face him, I caressed his face, taking in his loose hair, soft eyes, slightly protruding canines, and soft lips. I wanted to look at him forever, there’s something arresting about his face making me incapable of looking away.
“Why do you ask?” Was he overthinking this whole night? Is he trying to make me start kicking him out so he doesn’t have to make the first move?
“You haven’t said a word since…since we fucked in the bathroom.” His tone was that of worry.
“I think… you may have taken every ounce of energy that I had saved for conversation,” I said with a giggle, “I came twice before that, and then three times in the bathroom. A girl needs to breathe and rest.”
His smile returned, lighting his face up, I just had to close the distance between us and kiss him softly.
“How are you feeling?” I wondered, gently caressing his arm.
“Completely empty. I feel like all my worries and stress just,” he made a floating gesture with his hand, “disappeared.”
“I think we both deserve some sleep, don’t you agree?”
He looked into my eyes as if to read them again, then rolled me over, pressed me into his form, and softly whispered good night.
I grabbed my phone only to be met with a few messages from Mai:
Mai Darling, 2:30
hope you’re not dead because Hana said there’s another party in 2 weeks and she’ll kill us if we don’t come
Mai Darling, 3:15
ok you’re either dead and i have to clean up the apartment of your blood or you’re still fucking and i hope to everything holy it’s the latter and i don’t have to get the blood out of the carpet
Mai Darling, 4:45
i’m gonna choose to believe you’re so fucked out you can’t even pick up your phone. get it girl. Message me when you can though
Yunaaaaasty, 5:20
alive but barely. came five times. hurts my brain to think we have work today. see you soon.
Mai Darling, 5:21
YESSSSSSSS i knew that little bastard had it in him…or more accurately he had it in you! ;)
i’m home around 9, prepare the report and i’m making us some coffee for that piping hot tea
What a weirdo. My eyelids closed to the soft sound of Keisuke’s light snores.
~
With a start, my eyelids flew open to quickly switch off the alarm before it woke up Keisuke. With a groan, he flipped over to his back, hand reaching over to try and locate his phone. He sat up to rummage through the pile of clothes we left on the floor to fish it out of his pocket.
“Ah, shit. I have work in a few hours,” he looked over at me and smiled, “but that doesn’t mean I can’t stay a tiny bit longer. That is, if you want me here?” His eyes were full of hope.
I pulled him towards me and caught him in a kiss, his hand started wandering underneath the sheets, grabbing my boobs, hips, thighs, pulling me closer. Every time he squeezed me a moan escaped my mouth into his, which seemed to make him more eager each time.
His hands travelled down to my pussy and started to softly spread my folds, ghosting over my clit with each move. In an attempt to get more friction, I started to roll my hips on his hand, desperately trying to unravel the bundle of tension already forming in my belly. He smirked and probed my entrance with a finger, catching the gasp coming out of my mouth with his own.
I was already reaching back into the drawer to fish out another condom, expecting another round, when his mouth left mine to trail kisses and nibbles down my neck to my collarbone while his other hand was holding my neck. Am I getting into this? His hands are so pretty that I kind of want them around my neck for a little longer.
“How are you so amazing at this?” I squeezed out between moans. He chuckled, “It’s a curse.”
“Then please curse me again.”
His head snapped up and we locked eyes. Grabbing the condom from my hand he got in my face, “Only because you asked me nicely, gorgeous.”
This time his thrusts were slower, towering over me, leaning on his elbows, his hair fell into my face, smelling of his shampoo and my perfume mixed together. Citrusy and sweet. I hoped the pillow he had slept on kept the scent a little bit longer. His eyes were focused on my face, following every hitched breath as he hit my sensitive spot with every move.
My insides squeezed his length with the desire to keep him inside a bit longer, the slow and lazy motions we were going through seemed very fitting with the chilly morning air coming in through the open window. As fast and rough as last night’s sex was, this morning’s sex was gentle, careful, and deliberate. My hands were firmly planted on his back, nails scratching slowly. I was soon brought to my peak again, this time it wasn’t sudden and needy, but slow and sure.
“Keisuke I’m close,” I moaned right into his ear, which seemed to set off something in him as his pupils dilated and his movements became needier. Like he’ll drop through the ground into the centre of the Earth if he doesn’t chase our orgasms.
“Say it again,” he squeezed out through his moans.
“Keisuke! I’m so close, keep it going please!”
“More,” his voice was desperate, his eyes were squeezed shut with concentration.
“Please I need you, Keisuke! You feel so good, you’re making me cum!”
With a cry, we finished in sync and he dropped on top of me, barely breathing just like me. He pulled out slowly and discarded the condom, pushing his hair back from his face.
“How many times was that?”
“This was my sixth, but it felt more intense than the ones before.”
The look on his face was that of beaming pride and bliss. “Not bad for one night,” he said with a wink, “but I’m afraid I have to get going if I want to at least shower before work.”
“Where do you work?” Considering how much we talked throughout the night, I didn’t get this important piece of information. Sure, now I knew what his life goals were, how old he was when he broke his first tooth, and how many bikes he had crashed in his childhood, but somehow his place of employment hadn’t popped up.
“Pet zone. The one next to the main square.” He raked his fingers through his hair, leaving me in awe of his lean body and toned arms. He started putting his clothes back on, so I got up to find a new pair of underwear and an oversized T-shirt.
Now that we were both dressed, we met in the middle of the room with another deep kiss, this time he pulled me into a hug. Huh, we had fucked 3 times and I fed him, but we just hugged for the first time. I could’ve just melted in his arms, but the sound of the front door unlocking made me step away and see him to the door.
Mai walked in with a big smile on her face and a bag of groceries.
“Good morning sleepyhead, time to start on breakfast!” She said with too much energy for both of us.
“Actually, I have to get going or I won’t make it to work,” with a quick kiss to my lips, he started for the door.
Mai turned to him as if wondering what he was still doing there.
“Okay, great seeing you, Kazuki,” she said with a smile.
“Likewise, Mirei.”
She frowned slightly, “It’s Mai.”
He smirked, “It’s Keisuke.” He winked at me and closed the door behind him.
Mai turned to me with a grin, “I like him, he can take a joke. Right,” she clapped her hands, marching into the kitchen, “I’m making coffee, you’re getting ready to spill everything. Apart from the coffee, of course.”
With sleep still in my eyes, I made for my bedroom to put the books and papers back onto the desk and let some more air in, since the whole room smelled of sex. As I raked through my hair, I realised his hair tie was still in my hair, I wondered if he left it with me on purpose.

Féile na nÚll Menu & Analysis
I had really meant to publish the menu before the event, but ingredient acquisition took more time and effort than expected. In particular, chestnut flour, which I wanted as a thickener for various gluten-free dishes, just could not be found anywhere I tried. I didn't find that out with enough lead time to order it online. Almond flour substituted, and was fine.
Anyway. Here's the full menu, which fed varying numbers of people, but I think about 45 for the feast.
Travellers' Fare (Friday evening): Beef stew with bread and butter (vegan stew on the side, plant butter available, GF bread available).
Saturday Breakfast was produced by the inimitable Lady Meadhbh Rois inghean Uí Chaoimh.
Saturday Lunch: Chicken soup (vegan soup alongside), bread, fruit.
Feast: Roast pork (vegan nut roast on side), Frumenty (rice on side), apple sauce, green sauce, meat pies (mushroom pie on side), creamed leeks (with fake cream), buttered turnips (with plant butter), roasted onions, purple carrots (with plant butter), olives, anchovies, apple pies, blackberry and apple pies (all pies with GF/vegan versions as well, where possible).
Sunday breakfast: Porridge with cream and fruit, stewed apples, boiled eggs, cold ham, and various leftovers, mostly fruit pies.
The emphasis here wasn't on any particular production of period dishes, but on making sure everyone got good solid food. It's also an entirely plausible English Tudor menu, including the frumenty and green sauce as dishes that didn't make it through the Early Modern. As far as I can make out, everyone enjoyed it (although nobody ever tells the cook they didn't). The coeliac and vegan/vegetarian folk expressed particular approval, which was important. Anything I could make GF and vegan was made so (plant butter and almond flour are the two main tricks here).
Gabrielle and Katie were in the kitchen every hour I was, and possibly a few more, and a great deal of credit for the weekend's food being on the tables on time is due to them. Katie also set in, with very limited prior experience, to making pastry for the non-gluten-free pies, and produced some of the best I've ever encountered. She's been designated Head Pastrychef in Perpetuity as a consequence. There were also many other kitchen helpers, who've been thanked appropriately on Facebook. The relevant note here is that we had 4-5 people in the kitchen at most times, which was more than enough, and kept everyone relaxed. The SCA Kitchen playlist (85% mine, 15% Gabrielle's) was also helpful.
So. The first thing that I want to improve is the gluten-free pastry. Making it vegan as well was trivial; replace the lard/dripping with plant butter, and it's absolutely fine. Any fat will do for that, it seems, although since the traditional use for the pastry is the raised pork pie, the meat fats help match the taste. The gluten-free flour, however, could only be persuaded to make a paste, not a pastry - trying to roll it out into sheets simply didn't work. It would take the form of a sheet, alright, but if I went to pick it up, it just broke. An experimental version that Gabrielle and I did before the event could be sort-of lifted into place on baking parchment, but it broke over the contents of the pie. In theory, with a very dense, relatively smooth pie filling (such as a meat pie that's been well-packed), you could get a coherent crust, but I don't know what would happen to that as the contents shrink in baking. Xanthan gum appeared to make zero difference.
So we've some more experimentation to do there. One suggestion is to use an egg or two, which will take it away from being vegan - but a vegan pastry, using plant butter instead, should not be a problem to produce as an ordinary cold pastry. Various things will be trialled.
The green sauce came out particularly well. Órlaith did her usual superlative job of chopping herbs, primarily sorrel and mint, with some basil and thyme, some black pepper, and garlic salt. The liquid base was about 2 parts olive oil to one part white wine vinegar. We only made a small amount, but nearly all of it was eaten. Green sauce is basically a table condiment for the latter end of the SCA period in Western Europe, and I have vague plans to make and bottle some at some stage, to see how it keeps and matures in the longer term.
I made far too much of the frumenty. Bulgur wheat isn't terribly expensive, so I don't feel too bad about it, and the carbohydrates are absolutely the area in which to over-provide. But for my future reference, about 400g of dry bulgur will provide enough for about 30 people without difficulty.
The roasted onions were surprisingly popular. I think we did 11 whole onions, and only one and a half came back to the kitchen.
The meat pies disappeared in their entirety, as far as I can tell. One was a combination of minced pork, minced lamb, and whatever vegetables were to hand; the other was filled with the remnants of Friday's beef stew. I was very pleased to be able to integrate leftovers into the feast; I am completely certain that a rolling use of leftovers in subsequent days' dishes was a standard feature of any period cookery, and we don't often get to do that over a weekend.
The purple carrots were entertaining. I can't detect any difference in taste from orange carrots, but they stain everything they touch a nice shade of purple-blue. I'll get them again if I can just for that.
Overall, I'm pleased with how things came out, and I'll do either of the Arabic or Pre-Norman Irish menus I had partially worked out for next year.

Best Recipe Development Tips For Food Bloggers
Absolutely, developing unique and flavorful recipes is a crucial aspect of food blogging. Here are some recipe development tips to help you create standout content for your food blog:
Start with a Concept: Begin with a clear idea of what you want your recipe to be. Whether it's a new twist on a classic dish, a fusion of cuisines, or a creative way to use a specific ingredient, having a concept in mind will guide your development process.
Research and Inspiration: Look for inspiration from cookbooks, food magazines, online platforms, and even restaurant menus. Analyze current food trends and adapt them to your style and niche.
Understand Flavor Profiles: Study the basics of flavor combinations and how different ingredients work together. Balance sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami flavors to create a well-rounded dish.
Test and Experiment: Don't be afraid to experiment in the kitchen. Play around with different ingredients, spices, herbs, and cooking techniques to discover new flavors and textures.
Keep it Accessible: While unique and creative recipes are great, remember that your audience should be able to replicate the dish at home. Avoid overly complex or hard-to-find ingredients that might discourage readers from trying the recipe.
Texture and Presentation: Consider the textures of your dish – aim for a mix of crunchy, creamy, chewy, and smooth elements. Also, think about how the dish will look on the plate. Visual appeal is a big part of the eating experience.
Test and Refine: Recipe development often involves multiple rounds of testing and tweaking. Take notes during each trial and adjust ingredients, measurements, and cooking times as needed.
Record Everything: Document each step, ingredient, and measurement precisely. This will help you recreate the recipe accurately when writing your blog post.
Simplicity in Complexity: While creativity is essential, sometimes simplicity can shine. A few well-chosen ingredients can create a remarkable dish. Let the flavors speak for themselves.
Think About Dietary Restrictions: Be mindful of dietary restrictions and preferences such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergen-free options. Offering adaptations for different diets widens your audience.
Test Cooking Techniques: Experiment with different cooking methods – baking, frying, grilling, steaming – to see how they affect flavors, textures, and overall appeal.
Incorporate Storytelling: Integrate a personal story, cultural context, or inspiration behind the recipe. Sharing the story behind the dish can make it more engaging and relatable.
Balance Portions: Ensure that your recipe provides a balanced portion size. Avoid leaving your readers with excess leftovers or a shortage of food.
Consider Visual Appeal: Think about the colors and arrangement of ingredients on the plate. Vibrant and well-arranged dishes are more likely to catch readers' attention.
Taste Test with Others: Have friends, family, or fellow food enthusiasts taste your creations and provide feedback. Different perspectives can help you refine your recipes.

Ted Tonks:
- Always carries toffee with him, Andy always teases him that he’s like an old grandpa, he doesn’t mind
- Is probably one of the least picky eaters you’ll ever meet. Seriously he’ll eat anything
- His all time favourite food is Dino nuggets because it brings out his inner child, that and they’re easy enough for him to make when Andromeda is too tired to cook
Narcissa Black:
- Another vegetarian, stopped eating meat around the age of 9 by herself (meaning her family were not vegetarian)
- Had an unhealthy relationship with food for most of her teenage years but she slowly learned to love it and herself again
- She’s always had a soft spot for eclairs
Kingsley Shacklebolt:
- Very tolerant to spicy food, he would always have competitions with people, James was the only person who ever came close to beating him
- Not technically food but he was an avid tea drinker, he and Remus would always drink tea together
- Kingsley was also that person who would rarely have snacks or packaged food, he would always have proper meals that he cooked

Summary: Now that the Avengers have begun to settle into the Manor, they get to know the inhabitants.
Notes: Yo, I do take requests for scenarios, pov’s, and characters to show up!
Steve awoke in one of the most comfortable beds he had ever slept in. For a moment he was relaxed as the sun streamed in through the large window. Then he sat straight up. How did he get here?
Then he remembered. After the Justice League had left, Batman - he still felt weird calling him Bruce - led them into an elevator which emerged in a richly adorned sitting room. The entrance to the elevator being in the Grandfather clock which lay to the side of the room. A butler - a butler! Even Tony didn’t have one of those - had met them there. Batman had informed him that they would be staying for a while, and the butler had quickly led them to free rooms, assuring the Avengers that clothes would be provided before dinner. He had spoken the truth, as a change of clothes were provided shortly. Steve suspected they were pilfered from the manor’s residents.
Steve got out of bed and went over to the neatly stacked pile of clothes, and got dressed. He had been given cargo pants and a gray t-shirt. He then left his room and began to follow the smell of breakfast - a heavenly mixture of coffee, maple syrup, bacon, and blueberry pancakes.
Nat, Tony, and Clint were already in the kitchen when he arrived. They were sitting on stools at the island along with Tim Drake and Cassandra Cain. The Butler was placing a heaping pile of pancakes on the table whilst handing Tim a pot of coffee.
Steve walked over and sat down. "Good morning," he said. "They look great sir, thank you."
The Butler smiled. "Call me Alfred, everyone else does." He spoke with a crisp british accent, which Steve hadn’t noticed the evening before.
Steve nodded as he took some pancakes and bacon. Everyone else started chowing down as well, with the exception of Tim. Tim looked horrible, if Steve was being honest. He had dark circles under his eyes, and his lids were drooped.
Tim was about to pour some coffee, when Steve noticed he was clearly going to miss the mug. Steve opened his mouth to say something when Cassandra Cain reached over and casually pushed the mug over.
Tim filled up the mug. He either hadn’t noticed, or hadn’t cared.
Cassandra went back to her  seat. "You sleep?"
Tim shrugged. "No more than usual. I had patrol, then worked on that eastside murder case."
Cassandra frowned. “ Sleep ,” she said vehemently.
"What's patrol?" Clint asked curiously.
Tim frowned. “We go out and patrol Gotham. Take care of crime. Typical vigilante stuff.”
This gave Steve pause. “You handle petty crime?”
Tim blinked. “You don’t? I thought you said you were superheroes?"
Natasha nodded. “So you’re like Peter. He protects Manhattan. The rest of us only got together due to an alien invasion. We’re what you would call the . . . heavy hitters.”
Cassandra nodded. “City needs us. Without . . .” She pursed her lips and moved her hands around. “Bad things happen.”
“Once you have finished, might I suggest you explore the manor or cave?” Alfred said as he placed more bacon on the table. “Master Bruce has a full gym and training areas in the Batcave which you are welcome to use. After all, if you are to stay here, you might as well have something to do.”
Steve stood up from his now finished meal. “Thank you Alfred, I believe I will. I think I remember the way to the cave. Thank you for the meal.”
Tony nodded. “See you down there, I guess.” Clint and Natasha agreed.
*****
Steve entered the cave to find that he was not the first one there. Standing on the main platform was an honest-to-god cow.
It was brown and white, with stubby horns and a baleful look. On its forehead was a brown patch that looked suspiciously like a bat. The cow mood.
“Bat-Cow! Get away from the invader!” Damian Wayne swooped in out of nowhere and landed in front of the now named Bat-Cow. “What are you doing in the cave?” He asked, his sword drawn and pointed at Steve’s chest.
“The butler - Alfred -  said I could come down here to workout,” Steve replied. He was still trying to get over the fact that a cow was in front of him, being guarded by an eleven year-old in black training clothes that looked a lot like a ninja’s.
“T-t,” Damian replied, clearly unimpressed.
“Well, um. . . Is that a cow?” Steve couldn’t help himself.
“Yes of course. Are you blind? This is Bat-Cow. Bat-Cow, this is one of the invaders by the name of Steve Rogers. Stay away, he’s probably not even a vegetarian.” With that, the boy and the cow strolled away, and Steve turned to go.
*****
Steve found the gym platform and set to work. It was quite nice equipment, and Steve enjoyed using it. He wasn’t the only one, as both Jason Todd and Stephanie Brown were there with him in gym clothes. They both wore gray sweatpants, but Stephanie also wore a purple sports bra, almost the same color as her suit. Stephanie was using some resistance bands and Jason was bench pressing.
Steve walked in muttering about cows, which gained a smile from Jason, who inevitably heard him.
“If a cow surprises you,” Jason said between lifts, “then wait till you see Goliath.”
“I’m sorry, what?” Steve asked as he settled into a warm-up.
“One of Damian’s other . . . pets.” Stephanie said, a grimace on her face. “But boy, I can’t wait till I see your face!” She laughed as she finished up, and moved onto chin-ups.
Steve frowned, but let it slide. There was silence after a while as he settled into his routine. Eventually he moved over to bench presses. He began to set up the weights, glad there were so many, as he usually needed a lot more than the average man.
Steve looked over at Jason, who was still pressing. On closer inspection he was benching almost 400 pounds.
“Do you have super strength,” Steve asked before he could help himself.
Jason snorted and finished up his last few reps, setting the bar down then sitting up. He wiped his face as he answered Steve. “Nope, I don’t need superstength to get these babies.”
He lifted up his arms and flexed. This sent Stephanie into a giggle fit. “You,” She said between snorts, “Jason Peter Todd, are utterly ridiculous.”
Jason smiled as well before turning back to Steve. “But really, none of us bats have super strength. All we have is skill, and kicka** personalities.”
Steve frowned, but nodded anyway. He went to begin bench pressing when Stephanie asked him, “That Stark guy said you were a supersoldier, I assume that super strength comes with it?”
“Yup. There was an experimental serum that the scientists of World War II chose me to test. I worked in the army for a while, before I got frozen in ice due to taking down a Nazi ship. I got rescued and joined the Avengers to help stop an alien invasion.”
Jason muttered something that sounded suspiciously like “cheater.”
Stephanie glared at him. Before standing up and speaking cheerfully “Well, I’m going to go spar with whoever’s available. See you later?” Stephanie walked off, grabbing a purple water bottle on the way out.
Jason nodded. He moved on in his workout, and Steve went back to his bench presses. After a while, Jason had left to spar. Steve finished up himself, then decided to follow. He remembered seeing a fighting area on his way down, so he left the gym and started his search.
*****
Steve didn’t have to search for long, as the platform in question was easily the most crowded. It was the largest, with some thin mats on the floor. Steve wasn’t sure that they would provide much protection.
Thor was standing near the center, holding Mjolnir, and looking quite uncomfortable. He was seemingly being questioned by Damian, Jason, and Cassandra. Tim, Duke, Peter, Nat, Bruce (Banner), Tony, Bruce  (Wayne) and Clint stood to the side. Their faces were a mixture of worry (Nat, Bruce Banner, Tony, and Clint), Amusement, (Tim, Dick and Duke), and confusion (Peter and Bruce Wayne).
Steve walked up to Nat. “What’s going on?” He asked.
“They're questioning the technicalities of being worthy of the hammer,” She said with a frown. “Specifically how many and how often you murder to be excluded.”
Steve frowned right along with her as he turned to the conversation.
“But is there a time frame?” Jason was asking. “Like say you don’t kill for like two weeks, and you’ve been super good? Would that get you points?”
“Uh. . .” The look on Thor’s face was priceless.
“T-t,” Damian said. “What about the technicalities behind the actual murder? Perhaps if a seven year old went on a killing spree? Would age exempt him?”
“I’m not sure a child would-”
“Not their fault?” Cassandra asked. “Forced? Didn’t know?”
Jason frowned. “Yeah, would the kid be declared unworthy if they were forced to kill? Or they didn’t know what they were doing?”
“Well, I-”
“What about mind control? Manipulation? Amnesia?” Jason asked.
“I’m sorry, but -”
“Do the more you kill, the more unworthy you become?” Damian asked, “Or until you hit a certain body count, it's a free-for-all?”
Thor sputtered. “Free-for-all?!”
“Or what if they were really bad people?” Jason asked. “Like other murderers? Pedophiles? Rapists? Drug dealers who sell to kids? If they did something wrong, would that cancel out your own wrongness?”
“These kids are hard-core,” Clint muttered.
“They raise a good point though,” Duke replied.
Tim nodded. “Ten Bucks its Damian who throws dear Thor off the edge.”
“Cass is feisty though.” Dick replied
Duke snorted. “Hah, never bet against Jason!”
All three exchanged handshakes.
“Okay,” Jason said, waving his arms about as he spoke with the utmost seriousness. “Does the way you kill affect how bad it is? Like would slowly and painfully bleeding to death be worse than a bullet to the head? Or say a sniper rifle compared to a handgun? Since one is more personal?”
Thor gaped at the young man.
“ Why kill.” Cassandra asked. “Told? Want? Accident?”
“What if it was to save yourself?” Damian asked. “If it was self-preservation, would that account for anything?”
“What if you were saving someone else?” Jason added. “Either directly, or just making the world a safer place?”
Thor frowned. “I do not speak for Mjolnir, but I assume all murder is murder.” The kids looked disappointed, so Thor continued. “However, if you wish to try to lift it, You have my permission to do so.”
“Naw, it's okay,” Jason said as the kids walked off looking dejected. “Doubt we could anyways, as Thor here just clarified.”
This caused the most uproar out of everything else in the conversation. Thor looked stricken, along with Peter, Bruce Banner, and Tony. Natasha and Clint looked at each other worriedly, Bruce Wayne, Tim, and Duke just rolled their eyes. And Steve was just confused.
“You kill?” Steve asked, as he started to worry if this universe was much more different than he had originally thought.
“Cassandra, Damian, and Jason had … unusual circumstances.” Bruce Wayne said simply. There was a silence after that. Then Bruce continued. “Well, we were about to start some sparring. If you’d like to join us, you are more than welcome to.”
Steve stood straight. He’d been looking forward to seeing them fight. “Sure,” he said as Tim, Dick and Duke exchanged ten dollar bils. “Sounds fun.”

Things Change - Part One
Pairing: Pezberry
Rating: M
Genre: angst/romance/drama/eventual smut
Set Season 4/5 New York.
Santana is emotionally flailing after her break up with Brittany. She doesn’t know how to ease the pain, until she realises she has the antidote right in front of her. Rachel is desperate to open Santana up to her, lowering her own guard in the hopes of lowering Santana’s. What starts out as a game to Santana slowly becomes something she can’t contain, let alone walk away from.
(authors note: it’s been a hot while since I’ve written pezberry but they are my all time FAVE. gonna post this one in parts because it just feels right, you know? taking prompts/requests so send away !!)
‘Santana, have you seen Kurt?’ Rachel barges through the loft door, straining to pull it closed with one hand, the other weighed down with plates of what appear to be food.
Santana rolls her eyes but keeps them fixed to the TV. ‘No, Berry. I have not seen Kurt. Now if you don’t mind, I’m in the middle of something.’ Rachel slams the plates onto the counter, hands immediately finding petulant hips. ‘Really? Because from where I’m standing, you’re just watching The Real Housewives - again. Have you even moved since I left? Have you eaten? Have you done anything besides sink further into the couch that doubles as your bed?’
Santana raises a hand and groans to cut Rachel short. ‘My god, Berry. Just stop. Stop talking. My goddamn ears are ringing.’ Rachel huffs. ‘Your constant rudeness is clearly just a deflection, Santana.’ ‘No, Rachel. I’m just a bitch.’ Santana shrugs. Rachel, undeterred, noisily places several plates into the already cluttered fridge - Kurt is going through somewhat of a experimental Vietnamese cuisine phase and his discoloured animal parts are far too close to Rachel’s vegetarian (yes, she used to be vegan. Since moving to New York she’s had to make a few sacrifices and some of those sacrifices come in the form of eating cheese) entrées for their annual - this is the first one, but Rachel and Kurt have sworn on the original cast of Rent that it won’t be the last - Valentine’s day feast. ‘You know, Santana. I get it. You don’t think that after Finn and I broke up I didn’t want to sit and binge on trashy television and forget about my talent and my ambitions and responsibilities?’ Rachel slams the fridge closed and begins rummaging in the drawer where they keep the pots a the pans and basically anything that isn’t a fork or a plate. ‘Well, I didn’t exactly forget about my talent or my dreams or the work it would take to make them come true but look at me now. I’m the lead in Funny Girl on Broadway. And who knows, maybe if Finn and I were still together, I wouldn’t have my Fanny.’ Santana snorts. ‘Alright, pipsqueak. I agree. With that puffy giant holding you down, you were literally never going to get anywhere. Those sweaty, oversized fingers would have held onto you so tightly that that nose of yours would’ve turned concave. And yes, look at you now. You’re still the same entitled little freak that you were in high school, except now you’re in the big city.’ Santana wiggles her fingers, as if dazzled by mere mention of their new home. ‘And you’ve got your fanny, and so does that donkey you call a boyfriend.’ ‘Santana!’ Rachel drops a handful of cutlery, scandalised. ‘H-how dare you! Brody looks nothing like - well, he is extremely handsome and I know you know that.’ ‘Yes, Rachel. How could I not have noticed? I come face to face with his teeny, tiny genitalia nearly every morning. Do you know how hard - I’m sorry, semi-difficult it is to focus on breakfast with the stench of your early morning hump session flooding the kitchen?’ Rachel slams her hands on the table and glares at Santana who is now a few steps away, preparing herself for a fight. She could use this today, a little distraction is just what she needs. She smiles, waiting for Rachel’s impending explosion. ‘This isn’t even about Brody or Finn or Funny Girl. This is about you, and how you’re wasting your life away pining for a girl that doesn’t even want you anymore. Wake up, Santana. Brittany moved on. Without you. I imagine she grew tired of your cruelty, just like I have.’ Rachel keeps her tone even, her voice low. Santana just stares at her, caught off guard by her delivery, even more so by the thought of Brittany. It all happens within a few seconds. She didn’t know she was going to press her hands to Rachel’s shoulders, and she certainly didn’t know she was going to pin her against the fridge, Lima Heights style. ‘Tread carefully, dwarf.’ She growls. Her blood feels like it’s on fire, her mouth dry and her teeth sharp. Rachel trembles but tries not to show it. She looks directly into Santana’s eyes. It’s a challenge, and Santana never loses. ‘Just because we live together now doesn’t mean you know me. It doesn’t mean you get to say whatever you want whenever you feel like running that excruciatingly irritating mouth. And it sure as hell doesn’t mean I won’t end you in a second.’ She keeps Rachel there, pressed up against the fridge with her arm flat against her chest. Rachel’s breathing is fast but she still hasn’t looked away. It just makes Santana angrier. ‘Do you hear me, Berry?’ Her voice is gravel now. She feels so close to breaking that she doesn’t know which way she’s going to snap. The truth is she doesn’t want to hurt Rachel. She likes living here, with her and the baby gay. But this constant pain inside of her is making everything blurry. She wanted to talk to Rachel about it after it happened. She even considered asking to share her bed a few nights after she got back from Lima. Thank god she came to her senses. She can’t imagine sharing a bed with Rachel, it makes her teeth ache. And she doesn’t trust herself these days not to do something crazy like try and seduce Rachel just for the thrill of it. This isn’t the first time she’s considered such a conquest, if only to keep her from calling Brittany. She should stop thinking about it, especially when she’s this close to Rachel. When she can feel her breath on her lips. When she’s more confused than she was senior year. She just wants Rachel to do something. Scream at her, push her. Slap her. She can’t feel anything but longing, and sometimes she doesn’t even know what she’s longing for. ‘You’re hurting,” Rachel says softly with those stupid, well-meaning eyes. She says it like it’s revelatory. As if Santana isn’t aware of the searing through her veins every second of the day. She lets go of Rachel, changing tactics. ‘What time is that brick you call a boyfriend coming over?’ She bends over to pick up everything that Rachel dropped, making sure her ass is pointed in Rachel’s direction. So what if she’s wearing sweatpants? Her ass is still magnetic. Rachel stutters and has a few false starts, confused by Santana’s abruptness. ‘6.30,’ she finally answers, residing herself to moving on. She knows Santana won’t open up to her. Not now. Maybe not ever. The thought saddens her enough to make her eyes sting with tears. ‘Well, then. I better start getting ready.’ Santana stands and smirks at Rachel, handing her a few forks and knives. ‘I thought you didn’t want to celebrate,” Rachel says quietly. Santana feels guilty for half a second. ‘Things change.’

do you have any cooking advice? or favourite go-to recipes for meals?? i would love a detailed tutorial/list if you feel like it! :D
So I am cheating a bit here by digging into my recipe docs but here are some fun ones from the household, savory and sweet, and a link to the AnS experimental recipes of yore. Takoyaki (carnivorous and veggie), baklava, the sacred family apple pie, my lemon-ginger cheesecake, and the AnS recipes. Enjoy!
TAKOYAKI (with vegetarian alteration at end)
Tumblr media
Pour the batter into the takoyaki pan (it has half spherical divots to bake them.)
Tumblr media
Throw in the add ins-octopus if you use it (I don’t), mochi (gives you that chewy texture), cheese (mozz and similar work), cabbage, green onion, and let it overflow a bit. fry until it has some  cohesion and a skin but before it’s fully golden, then while it’s cookingusing a skewer or a tool made for the purpose (looks sort of like a leatherworking awl and I use mine all the time for cookie-decoration), carefully turn your htakoyaki to fill the other side with batter, using the overflow to make up the rest. Add the bits, cook  again, and remove when golden. Eat.
This video tutorial is only 2 min but will give a good idea of what I’m describing really poorly. All those people? Takoyaki is often a gathering/party food. The first time I had it was at a get together in Nara and it did sort of look like that.
My fave baklava recipe

My mother’s sacred apple pie (French)

Familial additional notes from my sister in law

My favorite lemon-ginger cheesecake
LEMON-GINGER CHEESECAKECrust2 cups finely ground gingersnap cookies (about 9 ounces) 2 tablespoons sugar½ teaspoon ground ginger HA. Double that shit. at least. I think I used a generous tablespoon.¼ cup (½ stick) unsalted butter, melted (if you’re going to ignore the greasing of the pan as I did, double this)Filling4 8-ounce packages cream cheese, room temperature1 ¼ cups sugar4 large eggs, room temperature1 cup sour cream½ cup whipping cream½ cup finely chopped crystallized ginger (if you don’t want to deal or you like a smooth texture, you can ignore this. Because the people I’m making this one for aren’t huge ginger fans, I skipped it this time, but added an extra half Tbsp of the grated)2 tablespoons finely grated peeled fresh ginger (I was lazy this time and got it out of a jar. This recipe takes forever okay)2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (whatever. I used at least 4. tart)4 teaspoons grated lemon peel Probably 5-6. I wanted a lot.Lemon slices (for garnish) yeah, no. For crust: Preheat oven to 325°F. Generously butter 10-inch-diameter springform pan with 2 ¾-inch-high sides. Double-wrap outside of pan with heavy-duty foil. Blend ground cookies, sugar, and ginger in processor. Add melted butter and process until moist crumbs form. Press mixture onto bottom and ½ inch up sides of prepared pan. Bake until crust sets, about 10 minutes. Cool. Maintain oven temperature.
Real talk. I hate water baths and if it cracks, it cracks. Also, every time I grease the pan, the @#%@#% crust sticks, so I’m taking a note from my mom’s book this time and I doubled the butter in the crumb mix, but no greasing. We’ll see if the crust coheres when I transfer it to a plate.
For filling: Using electric mixer, beat cream cheese in large bowl until fluffy. Beat in sugar, scraping down sides of bowl occasionally. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in sour cream and whipping cream, then crystallized ginger, fresh ginger, lemon juice, and lemon peel.
Pour filling into crust. Place springform pan in large roasting pan. Pour enough boiling water into roasting pan to come 1 inch up sides of springform pan. Bake cheesecake until filling is set and golden brown on top (cake will rise slightly above edge of pan), about 1 hour 25 minutes. Turn off oven and prop open oven door with wooden spoon. Let cake stand in oven 1 hour (cake will fall). Remove springform pan from water bath. Remove foil and cool cheesecake completely on rack. Cover and refrigerate overnight. (Can be prepared ahead and refrigerated 4 days or frozen up to 2 months. Defrost frozen cake overnight in refrigerator.) Release pan sides from cheesecake. Transfer cheesecake to platter. Arrange lemon slices decoratively around cake and serve. Test-kitchen Tip: Use a processor to grind the gingersnap cookies finely for the crust.
>_>
I just throw the gingersnaps in large baggies and attack them with a rolling pin. Catharsis is here.

Between the fact that I don't eat much (certainly not enough to eat 4 cups of produce a day) and the electrical problems in this place meaning the mini fridge the lady gave me won't stay cold and food spoils in there, so I can't eat much fresh fruit+veg...
I take a lot of whole food supplements. After dinner every night, I drink a concoction of supplements including fiber, probiotic, and recently due to the refrigeration issue limiting my fresh produce intake to bananas, apples, carrots, and tomatoes, I also add these smoothie powder supplements.
The greens one smells like matcha tea somehow. There's not even matcha tea in it? No tea at all in fact??? I used to make matcha tea every time I worked a morning shift, and it takes me back then.
And the fruit one smells like some vague nostalgic shampoo from my childhood. I couldn't tell you which one, but it's mostly berries.
Making this thing takes me on a nostalgic scent journey every single night and I still don't know how I feel about that.

Believe in Me - chapter twenty-eight
Summary: Dan Howell is living at home while he’s saving money for college, which isn’t easy since his parents don’t understand him. Unlike them, he loves dogs, is a vegetarian, has no interest in the family business, and he despises the supernatural. He struggles to accept things that are illogical, even though he is a kitsune. Kitsune are foxes whose powers involve the ability to cast illusions, but Dan just wants to be normal. Phil Lester has just moved to London, where he works as a dog walker. When his path crosses with Dan, Phil is eager to get to know him. Unfortunately, Phil soon finds that being friends with Dan is far more complicated than he could have imagined.
Rating: Mature Word Count: 2404 Warnings: Slow Burn, Eventual Smut
Kitsune fact: One of the most important things to a Kitsune is freedom. They do not fare well to being locked away, and do not like to be forced to do something they don't want to. Kitsune love playing tricks. They like to take things and hide them from people, or do just about anything else to piss someone off. Kitsunes' have things called Kitsune balls, or star balls, which is a small white-gold ball that is a Kitsune's most prized possession, since it is almost like their life force in a ball. If you get your hands on a Kitsune's star ball, you would have the ability to control the Kitsune, and make it do your bidding. However, Kitsune hate being stripped of their freedom, and there will be serious repercussions for you to deal with. [http://www.mythicalcreaturesguide.com/page/Kitsune/]
Dan was leaning on the counter at the coffee shop, wondering what he was doing here. The small of his back was aching from being on his feet for so long. He had scalded his hand making a cup of tea for a customer earlier. He had been here for so long that he now hated the smell of coffee beans, a scent he loved before this place had tainted it. What was he doing with his life? Why was he here when he could be sitting on the sofa, playing video games?
A man entered the coffee shop, so Dan straightened his spine and pasted a smile on his face. “Hello there,” Dan greeted the customer.
Rather than returning the smile or greeting, the man frowned at him. “Make me a coffee.”
Dan’s shoulders stiffened, but that was the only visible reaction he allowed himself to have to the man’s rudeness as he went through the motions of taking the details of the order. Then he was able to turn his back on the man as he started making the coffee. Dan grinned to himself as he decided to add something special to the coffee. He had a new pen in his pocket – it was black and filled with liquid ink. Dan cracked the pen and poured the ink into the coffee.
Then he put the lid on the coffee and turned with a polite smile to give it to the customer. If the man couldn’t even return a courteous smile, it seemed right that his coffee should paint his teeth black. Dan was only teaching him a lesson.
A couple mind-numbing hours of work later, another customer stood out to him. The man came in when the shop was mostly empty, and he handed Dan a large bill that required change. While Dan was counting his change, out of the corner of his eye he saw the man steal a £5 note out of the tip jar.
Dan felt his blood boil, but just before he called the man out on the theft he had a better idea. He was holding the man’s change – a £10 note – when he intentionally dropped a coin and ducked below the counter to retrieve the coin. A leaf had blown behind the counter from the front door, and Dan cast a quick illusion on the leaf to make it resemble a 10. Then he handed it to the customer, who smirked like he had outwitted Dan. What an asshole. Dan returned the smile, satisfied with the fact that the next time the man glanced in his wallet he would see a leaf.
When the man left, Dan stuffed the real 10 in the tip jar. As he returned to leaning against the counter, he was still miserable, but at least he felt smug whenever he glanced at the tip jar.
Dan was taking out the trash a couple hours later. He stood by the dumpster for a few moments, staring at the door that would take him back to work, but he didn’t have the motivation to take a single step towards it. He could think of a hundred things he would rather be doing right now, and not one reason to go back inside. Why was he spending his time working? Why did he take this job in the first place? He couldn’t remember what he was doing here.
Dan stripped off his apron and tossed it in the dumpster before walking away. Now that his night was open, he smiled as he realized where he wanted to be, and he started walking in the direction of Phil’s apartment. Knowing that Phil would still be out for a bit longer, Dan used his key to let himself into Phil’s apartment. He looked around the empty room, grinning as he thought of something that would be fun.
Dan found a great place to hide, and he was out of sight behind the back of the sofa when Phil walked in the front door. Peeking around the edge of the sofa, he saw Phil lock the front door and hang up his jacket. Phil glanced at his phone, perhaps checking the time, and then he started walking towards the kitchen.
Dan took a shallow breath, closed his eyes for a moment, and then heard a knock on the front door. When he opened his eyes, he saw Phil crossing the room again so that he could answer the door. Dan covered his mouth with his hand to stifle the laughter he already felt bubbling in his chest.
When Phil opened the door, his jaw dropped. A grizzly bear was standing on its hind legs in the doorway. As Phil stared at it, the bear rumbled with a growl and reached forward with its claws. Meanwhile, Dan bit his lip, a bit disappointed that Phil wasn’t running or screaming. Did he know it was an illusion? It looked perfectly real, and Dan was even putting in some effort to make the bear’s breath stink like rotting meat. Frustrated, Dan decided to take this to the next level.
The bear’s jaw dropped further, slobber hanging from its sharp teeth as it let out a roar loud enough to make the pictures on the walls shake. Then it flailed its claws in the air, getting closer to Phil this time. Phil let out a small shriek as he retreated a few steps. He glanced over his shoulder in the direction of the stairs. The bear was too tall to fit through the doorway on its hind legs, so it dropped to all fours. Phil screamed again as he ran for the stairs. The bear snarled as it lumbered after him.
Dan could no longer contain his laughter, but Phil didn’t notice as he sprinted up the stairs, away from the bear. Dan had to wrap an arm around his stomach because it ached from laughing. Just as he was gasping for breath, he heard Phil shout again, but this time the sound was followed by a crash. Dan looked up in surprise. His bear illusion had been shambling near the stairs, and it popped out of existence as Dan’s chest squeezed with worry as he listened harder – Phil wasn’t making a sound.
Dan scrambled to his feet and ran to the stairs. Standing at the bottom, he looked up and saw Phil sprawled across the stairs. Dan’s breath caught in his chest, but as he watched Phil started to move as he tried to sit up. He sprinted up the stairs to Phil’s side. “Are you okay? Please tell me you’re okay.”
Phil’s eyes widened, but he allowed Dan to help him sit up. He glanced downstairs, and then to Dan again as Dan settled onto the step beside him. “The bear? That was you?”
“Yes, I thought it would be funny. I’m so sorry. I didn’t think that you would get hurt. Are you okay? Please Phil, tell me if you’re hurt.”
Phil flexed his arms experimentally and stretched his back, all without complaint, but he hissed in pain when he moved his left ankle. He drew his knee closer to his chest so that he could reach his ankle and rub it. “I don’t think it’s broken. It feels like I twisted it when I fell.”
Dan stared in horror at Phil, who was sinking his teeth into his bottom lip as he moved his foot, testing the range of motion he was capable of, which didn’t seem to be that much. “I… hurt you,” Dan whispered in disbelief. “Oh God, I hurt you.”
Phil shook his head, though they both knew it was true.
“I’m sorry. I’m… Let me help you. You need ice. You need to lie down somewhere comfortable. Let me take care of you,” Dan insisted, and Phil didn’t protest. Dan carried Phil down the stairs and placed him gently on the sofa. He arranged the pillows behind Phil’s back and under his injured foot while Phil smiled as if to reassure him, and then Dan ran to the kitchen for an ice pack. He carefully removed Phil’s sneaker from his foot, but he couldn’t do it without causing Phil some pain, and Dan cringed every time Phil winced.
Finally, Phil’s foot was bare except for a batman sock, and Dan placed the ice pack over the injury. Sighing, Dan settled on his knees beside the sofa. Hoping that Phil didn’t hate him too much, Dan leaned forward to rest his face against Phil’s stomach.
Phil ran his fingers through Dan’s curls. “What are you doing?” he asked.
Dan shook his head and mumbled against the front of the t-shirt, “I’m sorry.”
“It wasn’t your fault.”
Dan turned his head so that he could see Phil’s face as he asked, “In what way was this not my fault?”
Phil bit his lip and looked away. Then he said, “It’s not your fault. This is just something that happened to you. I don’t blame you. You didn’t want this. You’re different now, but that doesn’t change how I feel about you. Please know that.”
Dan shivered as he realized what Phil was saying. “It’s the fox. I’m… I’m different? Oh, fuck. I’m different. I hurt you.”
“Shh shh,” Phil tried to comfort him by stroking his hair and rubbing his neck. Phil was lying injured on the sofa, and he was actually trying to comfort Dan. Phil was too good for him – how could he not see that?
Dan shook his head, but he didn’t pull away from Phil’s soft hands. He said, “You don’t understand. I’ve been doing awful things all day. I feel like I’ve been riding a high, like I was on a drug – and I’m only just coming down from it right now. I couldn’t see that my actions had negative consequences because what I was doing just felt so good and right, even though it was terrible.”
Dan started breathing heavily as he thought back on his day with a clear mind. He had walked out on his job because he couldn’t remember that he was there to earn money for college. His mind had been so clouded by the fox that he had completely forgotten about his life goals. How is that possible? His eyes widened in alarm as he looked at Phil, “I could have killed you, Phil. And I would have laughed while you were dying.”
Phil closed his eyes and swallowed heavily. Then he opened his eyes and took a steadying breath before saying, “I can’t say that this doesn’t scare me, but we can get through this. It’s no different than how things were before your birthday. We still have a problem, and all we have to do is work on it. It’s going to be okay, Dan.”
Dan’s jaw dropped slightly as he understood what Phil was thinking. “You want to do research again. You think there’s something we can do to fix this. I… I’m not sure we’ll find any answers, but I want to try. I don’t want to hurt you or anyone else.”
Phil smiled and found Dan’s hand so that he could give it a squeeze. “You won’t. We’re going to fix this. I promise. Believe me.”
After Dan cooked dinner which he brought to Phil on the sofa, they ate while watching tv. Dan ate sitting on the floor beside the sofa, but after he’d finished dinner Phil wrapped his arms around Dan. He coaxed Dan onto the sofa beside him with soft kisses to his neck and assurances that his ankle felt fine and Dan wasn’t disturbing him. Once Dan joined him, Phil rolled them onto their sides and wrapped his arms around him. Dan melted against the touch, but his brow was still creased with worry. He asked, “Phil, what about your job? You have to walk Rotty tomorrow. What about your ankle?”
“Hmmm,” Phil sighed as he thought. “I don’t think the sprain is that bad, but I’ll see how I feel in the morning. If my ankle still hurts, I’ll call out sick – I don’t want to make it worse by forcing myself to walk on it.”
“Could I fill in for you? I don’t want you to get in trouble for calling out, and my day is free. I sort of quit my job today.”
Phil sighed and hugged him tighter. “I thought you were home a bit early… Um, no. Thanks for the offer, but I don’t think that will be necessary. I also don’t think that’s a good idea, considering…”
Dan bit his lip as he thought about what Phil was saying: it wasn’t a good idea for him to walk Rotty, considering… considering everything that was going on right now. He remembered the day that Phil had encouraged him to pet Rotty because in his opinion ‘Dan had a good nature’, so the dog would like him. Things had changed, though.
Dan’s breathing got a bit heavier as he was getting very close to losing the shaky grasp he had on himself, and tears were already threatening to fall from his eyes. As Phil’s arm tightened around him and his chin rested on Dan’s shoulder, he felt himself being anchored by Phil. By his warmth, his touch, and his scent. Phil grounded him when Dan thought it was no longer possible to touch the ground.
Phil promised, “It’s going to be okay.”
Dan didn’t believe him, but the words were enough to calm him for the moment.

Hsiao-Ching Chou’s latest cookbook invites readers to savor the world of Chinese vegetarian cuisine
Tumblr media
Three years in the past, Seattle-based cooking teacher Hsiao-Ching Chou launched her debut cookbook, Chinese language Soul Meals. Dubbed “the definitive primer on Chinese language dwelling cooking” by Seattle Journal, the favored information enabled family cooks to create genuine Chinese language recipes in their very own kitchens. Even with its many successes, Chou’s one want was that the e-book had included extra vegetable dishes. Now, with Vegetarian Chinese language Soul Meals, she brings these dishes collectively in a group of their very own. Writing in her normal welcoming model, Chou turns the highlight in the direction of mushrooms, greens, tofu and different meat-free mainstays as she explores the wealthy world of Chinese language vegetarian cooking.
Since giving up meat greater than 20 years in the past, I’ve achieved my share of dwelling cooking. Through the years, my culinary repertoire has grown to incorporate regional cuisines from world wide. However regardless of Indian, Japanese, and Center Jap dishes frequently showing on my eating desk, I’ve by no means delved deeply into Chinese language cooking. Maybe I used to be postpone by well-known dishes like Peking duck and kung pao rooster. I imagined making an attempt to adapt Chinese language delicacies to a plant-based food plan as one thing akin to visiting a connoisseur pizzeria and ordering a salad. Irrespective of how good the salad, I knew I’d be lacking out.
But vegetarian cooking has lengthy been a part of China’s culinary historical past. As Chou definitively declares, “Greens are important in Chinese language cooking.” Vegetarian Chinese language Soul Meals relates how the nation’s Buddhist delicacies fostered a long-standing appreciation and acceptance of vegetarian diets. Meat substitutes constituted of plant sources have been consumed for over a thousand years, permitting individuals from all backgrounds to get pleasure from culturally vital dishes no matter their dietary preferences.
The e-book’s 85 featured recipes embrace soups, noodle dishes, salads, stir-fries and extra, together with Mu Shu Greens, Hong Kong-Model Crispy Noodles and Scorching-and-Bitter Soup. Additionally included is a group of detailed directions for making Chou’s ever-popular handmade dumplings. There’s even a instructed menu for Lunar New Yr, that includes a “Fortunate 8” stir-fry recipe impressed by Buddhist vegetarian temple delicacies. Many of the recipes’ substances are available in main supermarkets, however a couple of objects, resembling recent bamboo shoots, could require a visit to your nearest Asian grocer.
Whereas Chou’s recipes are genuine, she streamlines cooking strategies to permit cooks of all ability ranges to get pleasure from their time within the kitchen. She contains useful ideas for alternate substances and notes time-saving ideas for cooks desirous to get dinner to the desk in a rush. She desires her readers to learn to assume like a Chinese language chef, encouraging flexibility and experimentation, fairly than strict adherence to a recipe. “There are few mixtures within the recipes that comply with which are sacred,” she writes. For readers unfamiliar with Chinese language substances, an illustrated glossary will can help you distinguish your bean threads out of your rice noodles. And for anybody who thinks all soy sauce tastes the identical, simply check out the two-page chart evaluating the flavour profiles of practically a dozen widespread manufacturers.
Devotees of the writer’s earlier e-book can be happy to study that Vegetarian Chinese language Soul Meals features properly as a companion quantity. Satisfying in their very own proper, the recipes work equally effectively as aspect dishes to a meat-based predominant course. Though the e-book’s subtitle advertises “plant-based substances,” vegans must be conscious that one chapter facilities round eggs, that are additionally utilized in a number of different recipes. In some circumstances, the eggs could be safely omitted, however different dishes would require extra intensive modification. As well as, one recipe makes use of gelatin, a product derived from animal bones.
All through the e-book, the writer shares anecdotes from her childhood rising up in a household restaurant in addition to info on key features of Chinese language culinary tradition. Cooking strategies, menu planning, and correctly stocking a pantry are all mentioned, with the writer providing insightful ideas based mostly on her ample expertise. Whether or not you’re questioning whether or not it’s clever to choose up a high-tech rice cooker or contemplating how a lot cash to spend on wok, you’ll discover recommendation written in Chou’s heat and inspiring tone.
Above all, Vegetarian Chinese language Soul Meals is one other instance of the writer’s ardour for sharing China’s storied delicacies. She’s dedicated to encouraging individuals to attempt their arms at creating thrilling home-cooked meals that can depart them happy and maybe somewhat stunned at their very own talents. NYC’s New Restaurant Openings (11) added to Google Docs
NYC’s New Restaurant Openings (11)
If you tried to keep track of every brand new restaurant in New York City, you might go a little bit crazy. So just read this list instead. These are the new restaurant openings that seem like they have the most potential - although keep in mind, for the ones we haven’t tried, we make no promises. Go forth and be a pioneer.
Editor’s Note, 6/30: All restaurants listed below are currently open for takeout, delivery, or outdoor dining.
AUGUST  Drift in Drift In $$$$ 389 West St
The Island Oyster team (who specialize in serving oysters and cold beverages next to water that leads to the Atlantic Ocean) have a new waterfront restaurant in the West Village called Drift In. It’s right on the Hudson River path across from Christopher Street Pier, and while they’re still waiting on their alcohol license, you can stop by for a wagyu beef hot dog or a lobster BLT.
The Bronx Ice $$$$ 782A Amsterdam Ave
Even when it’s raining, summer days in NYC are best experienced with something ice-cold in hand. And if you want that cold thing to be Italian ice, you can try flavors like “Strawberry-Blueberry Lemon Swirl” and “Pink Peach” from The Bronx Ice, a frozen dessert takeout window with new locations on the Upper West Side and in Greenpoint. For more information on specials, hours, and new flavors, check out their Instagram.

Oh Craft $$$$ 1739 Amsterdam Avenue
This new beer bar in Hamilton Heights has plenty of sidewalk tables where you can drink an IPA that’s more experimental than your new summer knitting hobby, and snack on things like sandwiches, salads, and charcuterie boards. Right now, they have 16 beers on tap and they’re open every day for you and your beer drinking friends.
Wicked Jane $$$$ 15 W 8th St
If you’re looking for a new restaurant where you can show off your new haircut wearing something other than running shorts, the Wicked Jane in the West Village might be your best bet. This upscale American spot is open for outdoor dinner service Tuesday through Saturday, looks perfect for a special occasion outdoor meal, and you should head to their Instagram if you want to know more about dishes like their monkfish and cauliflower puree.

 iSouvlaki iSouvlaki $$$$ 139 E 12th St
You can’t tell us that a pita filled with greek sausage, fries, onions, and tomatoes doesn’t sound like something you should probably eat this summer. Unless of course, you’re vegetarian. In which case, you can try the veggie skewers or one of the loaded salad options at iSouvlaki, the new Greek takeout spot on East 12th Street in the East Village.
Two Girls and A Cookshop $$$$ 1005 Broadway
This new Jamaican pop-up at Bunton’s World Famous in Bed-Stuy looks like the exact place you should be eating jerk chicken tacos with sweet plantains, jerk cheese nachos, and fried fish every Sunday in Brooklyn. Not convinced? The new taco-inspired rap single they just dropped on their Instagram should do the trick. You’re welcome.

JULY Outerspace $$$$ 99 Scott Ave
The people behind 99 Scott, a huge warehouse space in Bushwick where you may have seen a James Blake DJ set last summer, just opened a new outdoor restaurant on their back patio. And since all of their socially-distant picnic tables are surrounded by bamboo fencing, Outer Space might be one of the safest restaurants in the city to eat sourdough pizza and drink natural wine outdoors. They accept walk-ins during specified hours, but you can also reserve a table here.
Love Nelly $$$$ 53 Rockaway Ave
Love, Nelly is a new Colombian bakery in Bushwick where you can get things like chicken empanadas, pina colada raspas (shaved ice), or a few slices of dulce de leche cake. They’re open 8am to 7pm, Wednesday through Sunday, and you can head to their website if you want to sweat with excitement while looking at their full menu of sweet and savory baked goods.
Caravan Uyghur Cuisine $$$$ 200 Water St
One of NYC’s few Uyghur restaurants, Caravan is a new outdoor dining option in FiDi where you can eat dishes like lamb kebabs, hand-pulled noodles, and beef dumplings. And if you’d rather take your food back to your apartment and eat it while your roommate glares at you with jealousy, just place your order at their takeout window on Pearl Street.
Pasta Louise $$$$ 803 8th Ave
Park Slope now has a new neighborhood Italian spot where you can pick up homemade sauces and fresh pasta by the pound. While Pasta Lousie doesn’t offer outdoor dining just yet, this place seems like a great weeknight takeout option for when you want something more impressive than what you usually pour out of those blue boxes in your cabinet.
The Rogers Garden $$$$ 708 Rogers Ave
If you replace the acoustic guitar chords with upbeat R&B, this new outdoor rum bar in Prospect Lefferts Gardens seems a lot like Berkeley in the ’60s. The socially-distant seating at Roger’s Garden is mostly made up of colorful patio furniture that looks ideal for drinking mojitos and eating paninis in 90 degree weather. This place is open every day, except Monday, starting at 2pm.
Good Judy $$$$ 563 5TH AVENUE
Jell-o shots, drag shows, and glitter bombs are all things you can expect to enjoy at this new bar from the people behind C’mon Everybody. Both the curbside seating area and the back patio at this Park Slope spot are open everyday, and if you want to stay up to date on Good Judy’s event calendar, be sure to follow them on Instagram.
 Sushi Lab $$$$ 132 W 47th St
Sushi Lab, the hotel restaurant in Midtown with a relatively affordable omakase, isn’t new. But, Sushi Lab, the rooftop restaurant with a la carte options and omakase sets, is new and looks like a great place to bring someone you don’t plan on ghosting anytime soon. Before you make any big plans, you’ll need to reserve one of the socially-distanced outdoor tables, or a few seats at the chef’s counter, on the restaurant’s website.
Finback Brewery $$$$ 545 President St
If beer with notes of orange pith sounds like something you’d be into, you probably already know that you can find it at Finback Brewery in Queens. We’re just here to tell you that this brewery opened a new taproom in Gowanus with outdoor sidewalk seating. You can stop by starting at noon, Tuesday through Saturday to make a final decision on whether or not to make your Zoom name “Orange Pith” sometime in the near future.
Emmeline Zhao Silver Apricot $$$$ 20 Cornelia St
The rolled scallion puffs from Silver Apricot look like a good enough reason to try this new upscale Chinese spot in the West Village on their own. But if dishes like poached arctic char, skirt steak, and black sesame panna cotta also sound good to you, they’re all available for takeout, delivery, and outdoor dining, Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30 to 9pm.
Green Garden Buffet $$$$ 332 E 9th St
There’s a new pay-by-weight buffet in the East Village where you can pick up healthy-ish French dishes like baked sweet potatoes and samosas from Chad. Green Garden Buffet is open from 11am to 11pm daily, so if you decide you want something other than the usual ‘nachos larger than your head’ order after 9pm, keep this spot in mind.
Pupusas Ridgewood $$$$ 71-20 Fresh Pond Rd
We don’t want any trouble, but it’s likely that you’re not eating enough pupusas right now. The good news is you can change that by ordering lunch or dinner from this new, woman-owned, Salvadoran restaurant on Fresh Pond Road in Ridgewood. Whether you want cheese and squash, revueltas, or chicharron in your pupusas, this spot has them all available for takeout, delivery, and outdoor dining right now.
Tradisyon $$$$ 792 9th Ave
For dishes like squid adobo, sisig, and lumpia outdoors, try Tradisyon in Hell’s Kitchen. This new Filipino spot is open every day except Sunday, and if you’d rather order a few dishes for lunch or dinner at home, their entire menu is also available for takeout and delivery.
 Maki Kosaka Maki Kosaka $$$$ 55 W 19th St
If a romantic relationship with high quality sushi is the only one you’re willing to fully commit to right now, Maki Kosaka in Flatiron might be of interest. Nothing on its menu of sushi and hand roll combination sets costs more than $50. And if you want to know more about the onigiri fillings like yellowtail, snow crab, and spicy salmon offered here, you can check them all out on their website.
Blume Blume $$$$ 1652 Second Avenue
Blume is a new outdoor wine bar on the Upper East Side, located behind Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar. There are only 20 tables here and they’re all painted gold with pink chairs tucked underneath them, which makes this place look like the one baby shower we might actually want to be at. So if you’re in the mood to try some Austrian wine and snack on charcuterie plates, cheese boards, sandwiches, and sorbets give this spot a try.
Village Square Pizza $$$$ 118 Christopher St
Every once and a while, it’s good to switch up your pizza order. And since Village Square Pizza is opening a second location in the West Village this week (July 15th), you can swap your usual pepperoni and sausage pie for a few grandma slices topped with things like mozzarella, tomato sauce, and pesto.
Travis W Keyes Photography Ampia $$$$ 100 Broad St Fl 2
Ampia is a new rooftop Italian spot that has a few two-top tables inside individual greenhouses that you can reserve for lunch or dinner. The Fidi restaurant serves a bunch of seafood-filled paninis, a few pastas, and some small plates like calamari and grilled octopus. And if the greenhouses are booked, you can always eat at one of their socially-distant outdoor tables.
Brooklyn Noosh $$$$ 988 Atlantic Ave
Whenever you’re ready to check ‘eating Flaming Hot Cheeto-coated wings’ off your bucket list, head to Brooklyn Noosh in Bed-Stuy. It’s a new outdoor spot surrounded by tall trees and string lights, with a menu that also includes some of the more classic wing flavors like buffalo and BBQ, a burger, and a few different meat kabobs. If you’d rather order takeout, you’ll find their online menu here.
The Good Batch Creamery $$$$ 995 Fulton St
The people behind The Good Batch Bakery in Clinton Hill are opening this new ice cream shop right across the street this week (July 15th). To celebrate, they’re offering a free scoop of ice cream to anyone who registers using this link, between now and Friday, July 17th. The flavors here include cookies, cakes, and other sweets from the original bakery.
Baylander Steel Beach $$$$ West 132nd Street
This new restaurant on an aircraft carrier near the West Harlem Piers is run by the same team behind Prohibition on the UWS. And since it’s an aircraft carrier, you can drink cocktails on its massive top deck while eating lobster rolls and wondering when the engineers working on the simulation you call your life will fix all of the glitches. Check out Baylander Steel Beach’s website for more details on their hours.
JUNE Dante West Village $$$$ 551 Hudson St
A new cocktail bar from the team behind beloved Greenwich Village Italian spot Dante just opened for outdoor dining on Hudson St. In addition to negronis and other cocktails from the original location, Dante West Village is offering a bunch of specialty martinis, spritzes, and dishes like roast chicken from 3pm to 11pm, Wednesday through Sunday.
Pulkies $$$$ 428 W 16th St
There’s a new Jewish BBQ spot that just opened in Chelsea Market and the dishes on their menu are a blend of Southern cuisine and things you’d find at a classic New York deli. From chilled borscht gazpacho and pastrami turkey breast to honey butter cornbread and brisket, you can order a bunch of entrees and sides for takeout and delivery on Pulkies’ website.
Kokomo $$$$ 65 Kent Ave
Kokomo is a Caribbean spot in Williamsburg where you can get pastas, flatbreads, and more topped with things like jerk chicken and oxtail. This black-owned restaurant opened in late June, offering delivery, takeout, and dine-in service on their outdoor patio. For more information on specials and updates, check out their Instagram.
The Beer Garage $$$$ 148 5th Avenue
The Beer Garage in Park Slope seems like a great spot to send someone who misses the feeling of sitting at a bar with a tall glass of beer. There are a few outdoor bar stools where you can order drafts, wine, oysters, and clams. And if you stop by this beer bar between June 29 and July 5th for its opening week, you’ll get 25% off your entire bill.
Magdalene $$$$ 524 Lorimer Street
Like many restaurants on this list, Magdalene first opened in February and has since reopened for takeout, delivery, and outdoor dining. This Lebanese spot in Williamsburg has mezze like babaganoush, edamame hummus, and more, plus entrees like a falafel fried chicken sandwich and huge shrimp caesar salad that you can eat on their back patio. While you’re at it, be sure to take advantage of their natural wine selection - they’re offering 20% to 30% off every bottle right now.
Merchants NY $$$$ 190 7th Ave
Chelsea has a new American restaurant with sidewalk seating, that’s open for every day from 3pm to midnight. So if you’re looking for a spot to sit down for a spicy fried chicken sandwich and a spiked lemonade after 8pm this summer, try Merchants.
Dame $$$$ 85 MacDougal Street
The next time you’re in the mood for fish and chips, disco fries with curry sauce, or a parfait with earl grey meringue, try this new English restaurant’s pop up in the West Village. After halting their West Village restaurant opening, Dame has opened a temporary spot with outdoor seating, and all proceeds benefit organizations like the NAACP and Harlem Grown. Stop by Dame’s summer pop up from 5 to 10pm on Tuesday through Friday or 1 to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Sami & Susu $$$$ 279 Grand St
Here are just a few things you can expect from this new Mediterranean spot in Williamsburg: grilled shrimp pitas, rolled bourekas, ratatouille, and bottles of sparkling wine with labels designed by people who apparently love hand drawings, symmetry and pastel colors. Opened in June, Sami and Susu is currently offering delivery, takeout, and limited outdoor dining in the old Marajuca space on Grand Street from 12 to 9pm daily.
Santo Brúklin $$$$ 548 Court St
Now that the backyard is open at this new Brazilian restaurant in Carroll Gardens, you can eat steak sandwiches, pão de queijo (cheese bread), and brigadeiros (fudge balls), while contemplating why you didn’t rent that apartment 250 square foot apartment with the nice back patio after all. They’re open from 4pm daily and since they’ll be starting weekend brunch service on July 4th, you should follow their Instagram for menu updates.
Forsythia $$$$ 104 East 7th Street
It would be strange if this new pasta spot in the East Village didn’t have picnic kits with bread, cheese, and cured meats since they’re located within a few blocks of Tompkins Square Park. But since they do, you can pick one up the next time you’re in the area, or go for one of their Italian dinner kits, which they say will only take 20 mins to prepare at home. Forsythia is offering these kits for pick up and delivery right now and their Instagram is the best place to check for updates on their rotating three-course menu options.
Pineapple Club $$$$ 509 E 6th St
There are many things you could do to remind yourself that it’s summer. But ordering a mezcal ginger margarita, an oyster platter, or a plate of fried jerk chicken on the turf-covered outdoor patio at this new tiki bar in the East Village will probably be one of the more memorable options. Pineapple Club is open from 3 to 9pm daily, and if you’d like to make an outdoor dining reservation here, call 212-697-8600.
Rothschild TLV $$$$ 1129 Lexington Ave
If you’re looking for a new Kosher spot to try while taking in the outdoors, Rothschild TLV is an upscale option on the UES where you’ll find things like a short rib flatbread, lamb shank, or a piece of fish on the menu. They’re taking reservations for patio seating over the phone at 917-341-4169, but if you’d rather get takeout, you can place your order online.
MAY The Bun Hut $$$$ 178 Stanton St
Since May, this new Caribbean spot on the LES has been making Chinese bao buns filled with things like coconut shrimp, oxtail, and jerk chicken. It’s a new black-owned restaurant that you can support by ordering takeout and delivery online, and if you do it soon you’ll get 20% off their entire menu. Head to The Bun Hut’s website for more on their dishes, like chicken roti and coconut tarts.
 Soothr $ $ $ $ Thai  in  East Village $$$$ 204 E 13th St
Soothr opened its doors In May, serving Thai dishes like chicken khao soi, roasted duck with jade noodles, and massaman potato curry. And ever since then, the food photos from this East Village spot have made us want to leave everything we know about “picnic food” behind and push for Thai noodles the next time we’re picking up something to eat in a park. If you want to do the same, they’re open for pickup and delivery from 12 to 9pm daily.
High Low $$$$ 295 Wyckoff Ave
For beer, wine, coffee, and pastries near the Bushwick and Ridgewood border, try this new all-day bar. Since May, they’ve served things like sugar doughnuts filled with sour cherry lime leaf jam and a bunch of other pastries that sound like something you’d find in a bakery that’s core mission is to excite you with orgasmic menu titles. So if you need to stock your bar cart and load up on baked goods, you can do both at High Low, which is only open for takeout.
Tamam $$$$ 1106 Lexington Ave
The UES has a new vegan Middle Eastern spot that serves falafel bowls, pita, and shawarma filled with things like roasted cauliflower and crispy eggplant. And if you want to pick up an order from Tanam, which is just below E 79th on Lexington Ave, you can do it any weekday from 12 to 7pm. The restaurant is delivery-only on weekends.
Pizza Collective $$$$ 2060 Broadway
We’re not sure what’s better, the fact that you can pick up a slice of pizza with speck and toasted walnuts from this new shop on the UWS or the fact that the spot’s website looks like a relic from the Y2K era. Right now, Pizza Collective has a few outdoor tables where you can order a carbonara square slice or a calabrese pie, but you can also just order takeout and delivery online.
Haizea $$$$ 142 Sullivan St
This new Basque spot has a few sidewalk tables where you can eat an Iberico sandwich, spanish omelette, or grilled octopus in Soho right now, but since they’re also doing takeout and delivery from 12 to 8pm daily, you can enjoy all of these dishes from the comfort of your apartment. Recently, Haizea announced it’s offering brunch service from 11am to 5pm on Sunday and if you want more updates on what’ll be on the menu, check out their Instagram.
Sofia's of Little Italy $$$$ 143 Mulberry St
Since March, Sofia’s has been selling DIY meal kits for pasta, sourdough starter, and a bunch of other Italian options for an easy dinner at home. But now that their LES restaurant space is open, you can enjoy things like tuna and watermelon crudo, sourdough margherita pizza, and a glass or two from their extensive natural wine list on their garden patio from 5 to 10pm, Wednesday through Sunday.
Shinn East $$$$ 119 E 7th St
Like us, you’ve probably been craving some great sushi. So the fact that this new East Village spot has a good-looking 12-piece sushi omakase that costs $45 and is available for takeout right now will probably excite you. They’ve also got eel unagi, akami tuna, and other seafood boxes that you can order online, from 12 to 8pm daily.
Claudy's Kitchen $$$$ 5981 Broadway
Previously an empanada delivery-only spot, Claudy’s opened a restaurant on West 242nd Street in the Bronx, with a menu of Peruvian-style roast chicken dinners, ceviche, lomo saltado empanadas, flan, and more. This new spot sits right across the street from Van Cortlandt Park, so if you’re looking for somewhere to grab food for a picnic, this is a great place to try.
APRIL Saigon Social $ $ $ $ Vietnamese  in  Lower East Side $$$$ 172 Orchard St
After years of doing pop-ups around the city, Saigon Social has officially opened its own location on a sunny corner of the Lower East Side (formerly Mission Taqueria). They’re currently offering a rotating takeout and delivery menu of Vietnamese dishes, like a bowl of chicken pho, a banh mi burger with oxtail gravy, pork ribs, and so much more. Check their Instagram for updates.
Rangoon $$$$ 500 Prospect Pl
Rangoon is a Burmese spot that you might remember from its years of doing pop ups around the city. After briefly opening a new Crown Heights restaurant in March, the team pivoted their menu toward takeout and delivery. For dishes like tea leaf salad, coconut chicken noodle soup, or prawn curry, call 917-442-0100 or place your order online.
Niko's Souvlaki Handmade $$$$ 1933 Ditmars Blvd
New Greek food in Astoria might not sound like earth shattering news, but the juicy-looking meats covered in lemon juice and tzatziki sauce on Nikos Souvlaki’s Instagram have us contemplating a big shift in our weekly diet. And since this place is still doing takeout and delivery, along with dine-service on their outdoor patio, you can join us in whatever way makes you comfortable.
Kings Kolache $$$$ 321 Starr St
This new Bushwick spot specializes in Czech kolaches, which are fruit dough pastries filled with things like apricot preserves, blueberry, and sweet cream cheese. Along with the classics, Kings Kolache serves them Texas-style with things like candied jalapeno and bacon inside. If you want to get your hands on one, or try one of their good-looking breakfast tacos, Kings Kolache opens at 8am daily for takeout and delivery.
Winner $$$$ 367 7th Ave
Whether you’re looking to pick up a freshly baked sourdough croissant for breakfast, a BLT on ciabatta for lunch, or a roasted chicken with butterball potatoes for dinner, this bakery in Park Slope has you covered. Winner does it all from 9am to 6pm daily, and you can pre-order your takeout by emailing [email protected]. And if you want to know more about their friends and family weekly meal series, you can read more here.
Public Display Of Affection $$$$ 669 Union St
This new pizza place in Park Slope is offering wood-fired sourdough pies for takeout, plus a bunch of other things you’ll probably want to eat like breakfast burritos, chicken wings with chili jam, and crispy Cameroonian croquettes. You can order online or you can text the restaurant at 718-635-1678 to schedule your pick up.
Dr. Clark $$$$ 104 Bayard St
The people behind The Izakaya in the East Village have opened another Japanese spot during quarantine, and its dishes like lamb curry, cold ramen noodle salad, and Hokkaido-style fried chicken all look promising. Dr. Clark is currently offering delivery, takeout, and limited outdoor seating on Bayard Street in Chinatown.
Public Village $$$$ 23 Essex St
For Sichuan dishes like chili oil dumplings, dan dan noodles, and grilled noodle wraps with sausage and cheese, try Public Village. Since March, this Chinatown spot has been offering a rotating menu of dishes for takeout and delivery, so be sure to check their Instagram to stay up to date on specials like their spicy beef jerky. You can order takeout or delivery from Public Village from 11:00am to 8:00pm daily.
March Karazishi Botan $$$$ 255 Smith St
One of the original chefs from Ippudo has opened his own walk-in only Japanese spot in Cobble Hill. Karazishi Botan is a narrow, brick-walled room with about ten bar seats and a menu of just three ramen options, including less common ingredients like oxtail, lemon broth, and pork bone.
American Brass $$$$ Center Blvd & 49th Ave, 2-01 50th Ave
This huge, bright waterfront restaurant in Long Island City serves seafood towers, steak frites, and pig-shaped charcuterie boards covered in American ham and cheeses that look good enough to make this Queens spot a go-to for dinner in the neighborhood.
Omar's Mediterranean Cuisine $ $ $ $ Mediterranean ,  Middle Eastern  in  Midtown East $$$$ 154 E 55th St
If you spend a lot of time in the East 50s, you’ll be happy to hear that Omar’s - the Lebanase counter-service spot with incredible chicken shawarma - has reopened in the same space on East 55th Street. And if you’re new to the area, you might want to break up with your go-to healthy bowl place and start getting meat platters with tabbouleh, hummus, and eggplant salad for lunch here.
Loulou $$$$ 176 8th Ave
If you want to feel like you’re at a mountain wedding while you eat a duck leg or steak frites for dinner, try Loulou, a new French spot in Chelsea. And if you’re looking for somewhere dark to get cocktails, take the stairs down to the underground speakeasy.
Ama $$$$ 37-06 36th St
We love an all-day spot just as much as the next chronically hungry busy body, but Ama’s looks especially nice. This huge Long Island City restaurant feels like an upscale diner with cement floors and fiddle leaf fig trees where you’ll want to spend hours eating piles of fried chicken, and dim sum-style seafood dishes like poke, oysters, and clams that are pushed around the room on a service cart.
Good Bar $$$$ 1 Bedford Ave
The team behind Good Room, one of the best bars where you can dance in NYC, have opened a new cocktail bar in Greenpoint where you can listen to someone’s vinyl collection. There are also cheeseburgers, fried chicken sandwiches and beer on the menu in a room with a colorful mural that opens at 5pm every day.
Ras Plant $$$$ 739 Franklin Ave
Ras Plant is a vegan Ethiopian spot on Franklin Ave in Crown Heights where you can eat things like red lentils, beets, collard greens, and potatoes all wrapped up in a mound of injera for lunch, dinner, or weekend brunch. Whenever you try the food here, we recommend sitting as close as you can to the colorful graffiti mural that runs along the back of the casual dining room.
 Skin Contact $ $ $ $ Lower East Side $$$$ 76 Orchard St
A narrow, candlelit natural wine bar has opened on the LES. It’s from the family behind Chamber Street Wines, so you can expect this place to be packed from the long bar up-front to the small tables in the back.
Bohemien Bar $$$$ 97 Atlantic Ave
If listening to vinyl through floor-to-ceiling speakers while drinking an Old Fashioned at a marble-top counter sounds like a good time to you, try Bohemien Bar. It’s a shiny new Brooklyn Heights spot where you can eat snacks like chicken sliders and duck confit tacos.
Spicy Moon $$$$ 66 W 3rd St
The original location of Spicy Moon is one the best places to have a vegetarian birthday dinner in the city. And now that there’s a new West Village location of this vegetarian Szechuan spot where you’ll find a similar menu involving Beyond Beef dan dan noodles and dry pot with tofu.
Nakaji $$$$ 48 Bowery
Nakaji is a new omakase sushi spot in Chinatown from a chef who used to work at Sushi Inoue. To eat here, you’ll have to find the hidden entrance at the intersection of Bowery and Elizabeth Street, ring the unmarked door bell, take a seat at the modern sushi counter, and order either 12 pieces for $165, or the same omakase, plus sashimi and appetizers for $195. There is also a cocktail bar at the front of the restaurant called Bar at Nakaji, where you can order la carte sushi or a $30 cocktail omakase.
East Hae $$$$ 98 N 6th St
East Hae is a Korean bar that’s attached to the Urban Outfitters in Williamsburg. Before you stop reading, you should know that this place has decent-looking bar food like grilled octopus skewers, scallion pancakes, bulgogi burgers, and katsu sandwiches. Plus Happy Hour goes till 8pm, when you can get half-off of all skewers, wings, and cocktails.
Thyme Bar $$$$ 20 W 23rd Street
This new cocktail bar in Flatiron is in an underground cellar where you might be tempted to order a whiskey neat even if you’ve never ordered whiskey in your life. If you decide to go into full hibernation mode down here, there are a handful of snacks, in addition to a full bar menu.
Kuih Cafe $$$$ 46 Eldridge St
You’ll mostly find pastries like pineapple tarts and kuih serimuka (steamed, glutinous, layer cake) at this casual new Malaysian cafe in Chinatown. But if you want something more substantial for lunch, there’s also a plate of nasi lemak (coconut rice topped with fried anchovies, peanuts, cucumbers, and hard-boiled eggs) on the menu.
Gatsu Gatsu $$$$ 196 Smith St
Cocktails on fire, pork buns, vegetable gyozas, and tonkatsu ramen are all things you can expect from this Japanese izakaya in Cobble Hill. So if you’re looking for a dimly lit, brick-walled room to decompress after work in the area, this place is open at 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
Nisi NYC $$$$ 250 W 47th St
One of the chefs who used to cook at Anassa Taverna has opened his own Mediterranean spot in the Theater District. Starting at 11am every day, you can get a mezze spread or some shrimp paella at this two-floor, sit-down spot on W 47th Street.
The Izakaya $$$$ 215 E 4th St
The Izakaya has an unassuming name, impressive Japanese small plates, and now, a second East Village location that looks like what would happen if a merchandiser from Anthropologie designed the inside of an underground bunker. You’ll find some of the same dishes from the original spot at this new location, plus new ones like BBQ duck wrapped in eggplant and jalapeno fried chicken.
february Barbuto $$$$ 113 Horatio St
Barbuto is back in the West Village, along with its popular roast chicken. It’s right around the corner from its original location, and it seems like nothing has changed, except there are no garage doors.
Sushi on Jones x Don Wagyu $$$$ 600 11th Ave
There’s a new sushi spot in Gotham West Market that looks like it could become one of the best restaurants in Hell’s Kitchen. It’s run in part by the Sushi on Jones team, who are serving a la carte and omakase sushi. And if you’re craving a beef katsu sandwich, you can order one during your omakase experience or from the takeout window run by Don Wagyu.
Thai Diner $ $ $ $ Diner ,  Thai  in  Nolita $$$$ 186 Mott St
Lower Manhattan has a cool new diner to get excited about, this time from the people behind Uncle Boons. Thai Diner is currently serving Thai breakfast and lunch until 4pm every day, including a dish with five nouns we like a lot: Thai tea babka French Toast. No need to freak out if you don’t spend daytime hours near Nolita - they’re extending dinner hours soon.
We checked out Thai Diner and added it to our Hit List.
Hakata Zen $$$$ 31 St Marks Place
After a 12-month closure, this Japanese hot pot place just reopened on St. Marks. Hakata Zen specializes in motsunabe hot pot - a red or white broth typically made with intestine, chives, cabbage, and tofu.
Top Thai $$$$ 55 Carmine St
The West Village has very few casual Thai spots in the neighborhood. So if you live in the area, take note of Top Thai Vintage on Carmine Street.
Factory Tamal East Village $$$$ 63 E. 4th Street
If you spend time on the LES, it’s possible you’ve been meaning to check out Factory Tamal for a while now (or you go every other Sunday morning for breakfast sandwiches and tamales). Consider their new second location in the East Village a further incentive to get involved with a chipotle chicken tamale.
Indika House $$$$ 943 Broadway
Indika House is a casual Indian restaurant in Bed-Stuy, right across from the Myrtle Broadway subway station. The menu seems pretty straightforward (full of dishes like biryani and vindaloo), and we can only describe the walls as having a similar aesthetic to the Rainbow Road level in Mario Kart.
Citizens Of Soho $$$$ 201 Lafayette Street
Did anyone ask for a new place to get charred broccoli bowls and lattes in Soho? Likely not. But if you work or live in the area, this location of an Australian cafe chain is here for your light meal needs.
& Sons $ $ $ $ Wine Bar  in  Prospect Lefferts Gardens $$$$ 447 Rogers Ave
If you’re into wine and charcuterie, you’ll probably want to become a regular at this new Prospect Lefferts Gardens wine bar, which specializes in American country ham. It’s owned by an ex-sommelier from The French Laundry in Napa Valley who also used to run the beverage program at Per Se, which is to say, you should expect to learn more about great wine (and ham) in this tiny, brick-walled room on Rogers Ave. Just keep in mind that, for now, & Sons is only open Thursday through Sunday.
Bar Camillo $$$$ 333 Tompkins Ave
The people behind Locanda Vini & Olii and Camillo, two solid neighborhood Italian spots in Brooklyn, just opened a third spot in Bed-Stuy where you can drink negronis and eat Italian food. They specialize in Roman-style pizza called pinsas, but you can also order things like baked cacio e pepe and beef short ribs here.
Dashi Brooklyn $$$$ 119 Ingraham St.
Eat outdoors at Smorgasburg all winter if you want to. But first, you should know that the team behind a couple of regular vendors at the weekly food fair (including a fried chicken truck and a pho bar), just opened an all-day Japanese comfort food place in East Williamsburg. To no one’s surprise, you can find a fried chicken sandwich and pho on the menu, but there are also some donburi rice dishes, sandwiches, and avocado toast served with an optional $6 slab of hanger steak.
Rome To Brooklyn Pizza $$$$ 755 Grand St
There’s a new slice shop in Williamsburg where you can get toppings like blueberry and pancetta, or pear and gorgonzola on your pizza. And if you’re looking for a sit-down lunch or dinner, you can grab a seat at one of the two-tops inside and think about adding a rosemary focaccia panini, hellboy panzerotti (essentially a fried calzone from the heel of Italy’s boot), or a beef-filled arancini to your order.
Strings Ramen $$$$ 188 2nd Ave
Our good friends at The Infatuation Chicago love Strings Ramen, so we’re happy to see that the first NYC location of this counter-service spot just opened in the East Village. In this small dining room on 2nd Avenue, you can get things like duck ramen in pork bone broth for lunch, dinner, or just before you go into hibernation for the next three months.
Da Toscano $ $ $ $ Italian  in  Greenwich Village $$$$ 24 Minetta Ln
The Italian spot Perla in Greenwich Village was an all-time Infatuation favorite until it tragically closed several years ago. Now, the team behind Perla is back in the same space with their new restaurant Da Toscano. You can expect to eat unusual dishes like octopus carpaccio, veal parm, and a giant porchetta chop wrapped in pork belly here.
Quality Bistro $ $ $ $ French  in  Midtown $$$$ 120 W 55th St
The people behind Quality Eats, a chain of steakhouses trapped in cool restaurant bodies, just opened a huge new French brasserie in Midtown. Quality Bistro has a few luxury hotel lobby-sized dining rooms where you can eat steak frites and stare at hundreds of framed bird photos lining the walls.
We checked out Quality Bistro and added it to our Hit List.
Taqueria Al Pastor $ $ $ $ Tacos  in  Brooklyn ,  Bushwick $$$$ 128 Wyckoff Ave
Taqueria Al Pastor is a new counter-service Mexican spot with a meat spit in the kitchen, which makes us confident that they’re serious about tacos. This small Bushwick restaurant has only a few counter seats, but the al pastor tacos served with hand-made corn or flour tortillas seem good enough to eat standing up.
We checked out Taqueria Al Pastor and added it to our Brooklyn Hit List.
Paisley $$$$ 429 Greenwich St
If you’re looking for a new place to have a business meal in Tribeca, this new upscale Indian restaurant could be a solid option. The chef at Paisley used to cook at Tamarind, another upscale Indian spot that’s just a few blocks away, where we like the fish curry and paneer lababdar.
January Bar Goto Niban $$$$ 474 Bergen St
The team behind Bar Goto, where we go when we want to pretend we’re at a tiny bar in Tokyo for a few hours, just opened a new, slightly-larger bar in Park Slope. The new location has different bar snacks and Japanese-inspired cocktails than the original, but you can get their incredible miso wings in this dimly-lit, wood-covered room near Barclays Center.
Kissaki $$$$ 319 Bowery
Kissaki is an upscale omakase sushi spot with a colorful space on Bowery. For $160, you get 12 pieces of nigiri plus four small plates.
Two Wheels $$$$ 426 Amsterdam Ave
Two Wheels is a new counter-service Vietnamese spot on the UWS where you can get pho, banh mi, and vermicelli noodles in a white brick-walled room that looks like a mini Sweetgreen. It’s open from 11am to 10pm and (unlike when you add too many premium toppings at its salad chain doppelgänger), nothing on the menu costs more than $15.
Sushi Ishikawa West $$$$ 207 W 80th St
The UES location of Sushi Ishikawa made it into our guide to Where To Eat Omakase Sushi In NYC For Under $100, but the second location from the same team is slightly more expensive. This new UWS Japanese spot offers a 15-piece sushi omakase option for $125 or a 16-piece option for $155.
Kettl Tea $$$$ 348 Bowery
If the green tea packets from your office cabinet aren’t keeping you awake anymore, you can get the strong stuff, straight from Japan, at Kettl in Noho. This is the second NYC tea shop from the Kettl team, but it’s the first to offer things like a four-course green tea tasting, tea-based gelato, and hot tea from a to-go window on Bowery.
Somtum Der $$$$ 380 Van Brunt St
Somtum Der is one of the best Thai spots in the East Village and now that the people behind it have opened a second location in Red Hook, we’re hoping we can say the same for this South Brooklyn neighborhood.
Izakaya Toribar $$$$ 164 E 56th St
This new Japanese izakaya on E 56th Street in Midtown East looks like a good spot to eat things like skewered eggplant, pork belly, and short rib on a causal weeknight. And if you also want to get drinks with your snacks here, Izakaya Toribar has a long sake list and some good-looking cocktails.
Casa del Toro $$$$ 626 10th Ave Ph B
There’s a new Mexican restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen that looks like the dimly-lit lair of someone whose goal in life is to take over the world by way of a five for $20 taco deal. You’ll find this and dishes like queso fundido and elote on the menu at this casual sit-down spot on 10th Ave.
Dun Huang Miss Noodles $$$$ 531 Myrtle Ave
If you’re a fan of noodle soups and wall art involving majestic wildlife, this new Lanzhou noodle house in Clinton Hill could become your go-to for a casual weeknight dinner in the neighborhood. Dun Huang Miss Noodles serves good-looking bowls of hand-pulled noodles in a small room with red leather booths and a deer mural that could be a film still from Pocahontas.
Eleni’s $$$$ 226 3rd Ave
Eleni’s is a new, all-white, Greek restaurant in Gramercy that’s decorated with rope chandeliers, sailboat murals, and small (definitely artificial) olive trees. If you’re looking to eat seafood dishes like lobster pasta or octopus with a group in the area, this spot might be a good fit.
Ms. Ohho $ $ $ $ Korean  in  Greenpoint $$$$ 146 Nassau Ave
If you’re looking for a Brooklyn coffee shop that also serves good food, try Ms. Ohho. This new Korean counter-service spot in Greenpoint is only a few blocks from the Nassau Ave G stop and the menu has things like japchae, bibimbap, and kimchi stew.
We checked out Ms. Ohho and added it to our Brooklyn Hit List.
Sanpoutei $$$$ 92 2nd Ave
If you’re the kind of person who prefers your ramen served on the saltier side, you’ll probably like Sanpoutei. This casual ramen place has several locations across Asia and specializes in soy sauce-based broth. Now that it’s open on 2nd Avenue in the East Village, you can come here for lunch or dinner in the neighborhood.
Sushi By Bou $$$$ 218 Newark Ave
We’re fans of the $50, 12-piece omakase at Sushi by Bou in Flatiron, so it’s comforting to know that a new location just opened in Jersey City. It looks like a strong contender for our new guide to The Best Restaurants in Jersey City.
Sally's $ $ $ $ Chinese ,  Caribbean  in  Bedford-Stuyvesant ,  Brooklyn $$$$ 151 Tompkins Ave
If you like Sally Roots, you’ll probably be into Sally’s, a new Caribbean spot in Bed-Stuy from the same people. It looks like a good spot to drink tiki cocktails and eat things like curry crab rangoons and jerk pork bowls for dinner - and like Sally Roots, nothing on the menu costs over $20.
Jiang Diner $ $ $ $ Chinese  in  East Village $$$$ 309 E 5th St
Jiang Diner just moved to a new location around the corner from its original spot in the East Village. Unlike the first version of this Chinese restaurant, the new place is counter-service, so it’s a good option if you’re looking for some quick congee in the area.
Peoples Wine $ $ $ $ Wine Bar  in  Lower East Side $$$$ 115 Delancey St
A new natural wine bar from the team behind Contra and Wildair has opened inside of The Market Line (a big food court on the LES that also just opened a few months ago). Peoples Wine seems like a good spot to drink and learn about wine or just snack on things like lobster pasta and cream puffs. Plus, if you like something you drank at the bar, you can buy one to take home.
Ernesto's $ $ $ $ Spanish ,  French  in  Lower East Side ,  Two Bridges $$$$ 259 E Broadway
A chef who used to cook at Frenchette has opened his own upscale Basque restaurant on the LES - it has exposed brick walls, leather chairs, and a chandelier that looks like a map of the solar system. Dishes like grilled Iberico ham, lamb-stuffed peppers, and monkfish with clams and salsa verde look promising.
We checked out Ernesto’s and added it to our Hit List.
Tiki Chick $$$$ 517 Amsterdam Ave
Tiki Chick is a new bar on the Upper West Side from the team behind Jacob’s Pickles and it looks like a strong contender for our guide to 15 Uptown Spots That Feel Like Downtown Spots. If you’re looking for a place near W 86th St. to meet someone who you might take on a tropical honeymoon in the future, consider getting mai tais here.
Boca Santa $ $ $ $ Mexican  in  Bedford-Stuyvesant ,  Brooklyn $$$$ 480 Madison St
This plant-covered Mexican spot in Bed-Stuy looks like a convenient and affordable way to eat things that you’d otherwise have to fly over 2,000 miles to try. Plus, all of the vegetarian-friendly Mexican dishes here, including dishes like chicharron and butternut squash quesadillas, cost less than $15.
Alison $$$$ 1651 Lexington Ave
Alison is a neighborhood restaurant in East Harlem where we’ll probably eat some oysters and a burger alone at the bar on a Tuesday night. There are also some good-looking pancakes and a smoked salmon croissant available here during weekend brunch.
Anassa Taverna $$$$ 28-10 Astoria Blvd
Anassa, a Greek spot that works well for a Last-Minute Group Dinner in Midtown East, has opened a second restaurant in Astoria, which looks like it might also work well for a spontaneous dinner in the neighborhood.
