friendly reminder that yes I still want an animated series set between tpm and aotc focused on the jedi, I just think it would be really fun and there's a lot to explore

I don't understand why Obi-Wan didn't know anything about Kamino in Attack of the Clones when there was literally a Kaminoan Jedi on the Council in the Phantom Menace.

Like, seriously?

The more I think about Tales of the Jedi, the more I realize it makes sense that it would tell Ahsoka and Dooku's stories.
They are the two Jedi-who-left-the-Order that we know best and their stories have many connections that way: why they left and the paths they took after leaving.
Do I still wish we could've focused on other characters (more so in Ahsoka's case)? Yes, but I will take what I can get.

I'm really sick of fandom and narrative alike moving towards treating Mace Windu's character in some bad light whenever he gets any focus as of late.
Tales of the Jedi showcases a fallout between Mace/Dooku from the latter's perspective and it's kind of stupid: Mace does his actual job but the narrative and fans don't exactly paint it in a good light; he is treated as very stoic and cold for wanting to follow protocol and the rules even though it was the right call anyway given the context of the sitation. Just because he wasn't instantly wanting to play detective and stuck to the mission doesn't make him less caring or compassionate.
First off, I'm tried of acting like Windu's willingness to stick to following the Council is seen as something bad: they have to deal with the consequences of unsanctioned actions that creates additional headaches and problems. Wanting to follow protocol and rules shouldn't be a bad thing and is a fucking courtesy to not constantly throw your colleagues in leadership under the bus to pursue your version of doing what's "right".
Secondly, fandom really plays a double standard on Windu. When he follows the rules and protocol, he's uncaring and detached. When he decides more decisive action in a manner even Anakin is on board, all of a sudden, he's terrible for not sticking to his guns and in both things, is regarded as the "embodiment of the problems of the Jedi Order" and it's stupid considering this episode shows how he got promoted. Like pick a fucking point and stick to it. Fandom will find anyway to make him look bad regardless if it isn't even that deep.
Third, I'm so tired of the narrative never giving Mace some consideration. While fandom compeltely exaggerates the narrative being against him, it doesn't help he's often used to contrast to Anakin/Dooku's character. Put him against people who he actually has no problems with. Obi-Wan. Yoda. Depa. And suddenly, you get all the content other blogs have to defend Mace's character. That's what happen when he's there to be a real character with agency, not there to prop Anakin/Dooku's idealism of doing whatever the fuck they think is "right" without any regard to who has to deal with their mess after the fact.
It's so telling Dooku gets validation for his views by even Yaddle despite the fact he is explicitly part of the "coming darkness" he "warned" the Council about even before the Phantom Menace thereby killing all his points to start with while Mace never gets treated as being RIGHT when he is right.

3, about Dooku
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
Oh, great one! Thanks for asking!
I think I’d say inconsistency.
Dooku is an unreliable narrator who lies to everyone and himself. I love unreliable narrator characters. They’re endlessly interesting, it’s so much fun to piece together what’s actually happening through the lens of what they’re deluding themselves about. Limitless opportunities for the kind of dorky analysis I love.
But when you have them set in such a vast franchise that struggles with general consistency, it’s hard to work out what’s a deliberate narrative clue versus what is simply content creators not paying attention to each other, making oversights, ignoring details in favor of the scene they’re writing… And Dooku’s storyline is pretty rotted through with these issues.
Even really big stuff, like his early fall to darkness. Dooku’s Sith ghost from the Yoda comic calls Yaddle his first kill. Yet Tales of the Jedi seems to imply Dooku at least did something to Sifo-Dyas by that point; surely a personal and significant murder. Did he not count that because he didn’t do it in person? So then how do we take Dooku’s claims in the Clone Wars that Sifo-Dyas was actively working with him and understood everything? Lying? But he says that AFTER Obi-Wan and Anakin have caught him red handed covering up Sifo-Dyas’s murder. So is that significant? They were working together, and Sidious still ordered Sifo-Dyas dead? But Dooku doesn’t think he’s to blame for it. Or he does, but he’s lying to himself?
….Or more likely, all these pieces were written by different content creators who were making their specific scenes work and focused on that rather than presenting a coherent, consistent order of events. And okay, this is a pretty specific example about a plot I care a lot about because it’s my little guy, but the Clone bait-and-switch is kind of central and it’s a 20 year old plot at this point.

@oflightsbeam      sent         …       hc + 👪 for a family-themed headcanon
╰► SOURCE: Thematic Headcanons / ALWAYS ACCEPTING
Tumblr media
It is well-established in canonical content that the Jedi Order are one large found family, and this remains true even for Dooku. In his childhood friend Sifo-Dyas, Dooku found a BROTHER IN ALL BUT BLOOD who remained at his side through thick and thin right up until he was ultimately slain by Dooku’s own hand as part of his journey to become Darth Tyranus. In Master Yaddle Dooku found a MOTHER FIGURE upon whom he could rely even in his darkest hours; however, she too was killed by him. In Master Yoda Dooku found many things, but most importantly, he found within his mentor THE FATHER HE NEVER HAD.
Expressing this fact proved difficult due to Dooku’s immense pride, but there still would be occasions where he would SLIP UP and make the sentiment known. Oftentimes, these slip ups took the form of inadverently replicating Yoda’s speech pattern whilst in casual conversation or addressing him by familial nicknames such as Pa. The latter would also happen with Yaddle, whom he has accidentally called Ma on more than one occasion.
Tumblr media
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Engaging in either habit always left the younger Dooku utterly mortified, leading to profuse apologies and deep-seated embarrassment. He grows much more comfortable with expressing his affection for Yoda upon his redemption, and actively refers to the wise old sage as his father figure after his return to the Jedi Order.

a list of things to watch/read after finishing JFO but aren't able to get Survivor yet and the brainrot is too strong
a.k.a. me right now XD
there is a criminally low lack of JFO content out there, so I scourged the canon SW content we have for any CRUMBS of stuff related to it. Yes this is how deep the hyperfixation goes. Someone help me
SHOWS
Clone Wars
S3 E9: Hunt for Ziro (the only Quinlan Vos episode. why? because he's the only other psychometric Jedi we know, and honestly it's entirely plausible that Vos gave baby Cal tips on how to master his psychometry. hmm. that's good fic material right there)
S3 E12: Nightsisters (this one is obvious)
S4 E19: Massacre (also obvious 💀)
S5 E6: The Gathering (Ilum!! because everytime I see it in a show I'm like hey! Cal's been there!)
Bad Batch
S1 E7: Battle Scars (Bracca arc pt. 1, also coincidentally has the same name of the book I Refuse To Acknowledge)
S1 E8: Reunion (Bracca arc pt. 2)
S2 E6: Tribe (Kashyyyk because we've also been there. Also Gungi from The Gathering shows up too!!)
Rebels
S3 E11: Visions and Voices (Dathomir, Nightsister zombies, and possession. Sounds exactly like JFO)
Tales of the Jedi
S1 E4: The Sith Lord (BECAUSE DID YOU KNOW YADDLE WAS JARO TAPAL'S MASTER??? Yaddle is basically Cal's grandma I am so DELIGHTED by this knowledge)
Obi-Wan Kenobi
S1 E4: Part IV (if I had a nickel for every red-haired Jedi that infiltrated Fortress Inquisitorius and shattered the windows in a hallway so that the water outside would start flooding it, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice)
A bonus addition is rebel.resistance's JFO playthrough on YouTube because she's super funny to watch and I would highly recommend watching it if you don't want to play the game
BOOKS
Brotherhood by Mike Chen (but, Lilies, this is about Obi-Wan and Anakin, why would you put it on a JFO list? because there's apparently there's a cameo of Jaro Tapal and Cal Kestis in there that flew over my head when I first read it because I hadn't played JFO yet and I am SO DETERMINED to find it)
Dark Disciple by Christine Golden (if I had a nickel everytime a psychometric Jedi and a Nightsister fell in love -)
I was going to put Jedi: Battle Scars by Sam Maggs on here too, but you know what, don't bother. That book is a disgrace to my hyperfixation. If you read it then that's on you

I might be totally off base here, but I think some of the reason star war dudebros love Satine and that relationship literally just because they feel like it’s somewhat niche lore that they are superior for knowing and can whip out? Like kind of like why they like the darksabre but at least that’s a cool weapon. I’m so far down the SW rabbit hole now I no longer know what is obvious to casual fans, but Satine and the darksabre (and yaddle maybe?) seem to be pieces of lore that are easily held onto and remembered by guys that like memes but haven’t actually consumed that much SW content or want to critically engage with it. And yes this opinion is partially based on that screenshot of YouTube thumbnails with Satine crying at Obi Wans sexuality. Now that I’ve written this out it sounds like *I* am the pretentious fan but I really just think we should gatekeep Star Wars from men.
Agsjagfsah thank you so much for this, you are so right! Both about the "Fun Trivia I Can Mansplain Star Wars To You With" thing and about the fact that gatekeeping is good 😂

okay so i need to talk about tales of the jedi bc if i don't i will explode. spoiler warning, also these are just my opinions, don't come for me please.
the time jumps are so sudden and not very clear. it makes the timeline confusing. knowing where you are in the story is kind of important to this series and yet they make sudden jumps in the last few episodes.
a lot of these concepts need more than 15 minutes to really work. it began showing in the 2nd episode, where it felt like it wrapped up a little too quickly. from there, it just seemed that they were rushing ideas and concepts. it really would benefit from an extra 5-10 minutes
i really think that the episode where yaddle finds out about count dooku is a bit unnecessary. really should have just shown how dooku fell to the dark side in the first place.
i see where anakin is coming from about teaching ahsoka how to protect herself and how the jedi tests aren't reflective of real life, but at the same time giving your padawan a concussion over and over again is not how you do it. plus the time jump in this one was probably one of the worst. i get what they're trying to do, but it's just. it's not connected enough.
that being said the animation is fucking gorgeous. we need more animated star wars content because the art and animation never miss, and because we need animation to be more respected.
i think learning more about count dooku is cool, but i want to see more of the other jedi. what about mace windu? kit fisto? plo koon? yaddle? etc? i need more.
i need to say this but the inquisitor that ahsoka fights sucks ass. he sliced the air once and then she chopped his head off. i get it but also this is ridiculous. clearly vader is desperate.
it is very much worth noting that the clone models in this are still whitewashed, which is a problem. it implies that representing polynesian features is not important, which is racist. disney and star wars needs to do better.
tl;dr, this show is fine. it's not the best. it needs to take time to develop its concepts and not just try to squeeze them into 15 minutes.

I love how in the aftermath of Tales of the Jedi, there’s been a sudden surge of “I didn’t expect to like Yaddle so much!” like bestie my love where have you BEEN? Until about two years ago I had only interacted with the absolute bare minimum amount of Star Wars content and even I knew Yaddle was A. not to be trifled with, and B. utterly awesome. Pretty sure it was a Tumblr post that brought her to my attention in the first place.

Fic Excerpt: Obi-Wan explains ABO issues with Master Yaddle
@masteryaddleisagilf I hope you like this snippet of Yaddle content.
Obi-Wan is doing an internship with Master Yaddle and they end up discussing A/B/O designations and dynamics.
Yaddle looked at him for a long moment.  “Mentioned another master did that advertise your designation you do not.  Unsure I am how supposed to treat you I am.”
“Ah.”  Obi-Wan paused, trying to figure out what to say. He had supposed people must wonder, but no one else had ever directly mentioned his designation.  “No, I don’t advertise it, or really present myself as any designation.  I was already a legal adult when my body finally decided to tell me what I was, and I had been for a while.  I was almost twenty-one years old.  I did not welcome the change.”  He shrugged. “I’ve also been told my designation scent is rather unpleasant, even at baseline, so I block it to avoid offending people.”
Yaddle pondered this, feeling him in the Force.  “Comfortable with your designation you are not?” she asked at last.
“I’m not,” he admitted after a long moment.  “I found presenting to be an unpleasant and stressful experience, and my designation put a strain on my relationship with my master.  My build and body type aren’t suited for any designation, and I had already been an adult without a designation for so long it was just easier to continue that way.  I don’t deny what I am if people ask, but I don’t volunteer the information either.”
“So . . . the only one who does not know how to treat you I am not?” Yaddle asked cautiously.
Obi-Wan shrugged. “You’ve been treating me like a person. A young person, but still an adult. There is no sexual aspect to our relationship, and you are my professional superior many times over, so does it matter?  Would it affect how you deal with me?”
Yaddle cocked her head, thinking it over.  “No. Affect how treat you I do it will not. But so many humans a big deal make of out of it do that concerned me that understand you well I would not and that understand your relationships with other humans I would not.”
“Most humans do make a big deal out of it,” Obi-Wan agreed.  “But they try to apply it to aspects of modern life where it shouldn’t be relevant anymore.”
“Other humans ask you do not?”  Yaddle seemed very surprised give how much attention they seemed to pay to it, how much they talked about it and how much they speculated about the potential designations on initiates and padawans as they grew up.  Still, as Jedi they were not living in isolated communities where marriages and breedings were far more strategic.
“I think Master Jinn was asked a few times when I was a teenager, usually on worlds where there are strict designation roles and restrictions.  But by now, at my current age, I think they just assume I don’t have one. That can happen sometimes, but it’s not always recognized of differentiated from betas.”
Yaddle was staring at him, obviously fascinated.  “But have a designation you do?” she asked to confirm.
“I do,” Obi-Wan conceded.  “Though to be honest, my healers are debating what it is exactly.”
It was clear Yaddle was restraining herself from asking what the hell that meant. “Thought I did that obvious to healers that was.”
Obi-Wan chuckled at her expression. “There are three main designations, alpha, beta and omega, but not everyone fits into those categories perfectly, and some don’t fit into any of them at all.”
“More designations there are?” Yaddle asked, very surprised.
“Yes,” Obi-Wan nodded. “You know how many human traits are on a spectrum, yes?  That they have different degrees of being?  And that they are outliers?  Sexual orientation or cognitive ability or height or coloring.  Designation has a spectrum too.  There are three large peaks, alpha, beta and omega, but they are wide, not sharp categories and there are other points on the spectrum.”  He glanced at Yaddle, cautious.  “But that’s probably more than you wanted to know.”
Yaddle leaned forward. “No, no.  Please, tell me more do.”
“I’m not boring you?” Obi-Wan asked, not quite believing her.
“No!” she huffed. “Explain this before a human has not. Just expect me to know this they do.”
“Okay.”

PT Watches The Mandalorian
S3E4: Good dad Paz. Good mom Bo???? Also this continues to hold my theory that Grogu is a Yoda/Yaddle baby. (ALSO I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS) If this season is nothing but Mandalorians training and riding increasingly terrifying animals, I will be content.
Testible theory: the Empire is watching Mandalore. (..also if Satine was using Beskar to build their buildings-- how the kriff did ANYTHING get destroyed???)
S3E5: No, seriously, what species is Shard. I want to know.

Today’s question: which mutual am I?
There are 25 options. One can be removed bc it is from my secret sideblog. Most of them are not active right now, so I can remove a lot. But then again, who would send me an ask?
Mmmm...... I feel it is either mads back from the death, rune bc of the new poll (thanks for voting correctly the first time), citrus bc of my recent worm content or, zestymelon or red bc of yaddle (<3)
Was I any close?
