There are cameras everywhere, a resounding click of the shutter one after another. Oh, and there's a lot of the color red present in the studio.

People are scattered all over the spacious room that you almost feel small as if every single thing and person in sight is intimidating you. And you're not going to lie, they surely do.

Frankly, if it weren't for your manager who's standing beside you, you might've immediately turned on your heel and walked your way back to the glass doors that you entered earlier, a minute just after arriving at the studio and finding how large of a scale this project actually is. Oh, to be back outside where you didn't feel suffocated and where you couldn't feel anybody's eyes on you.

"What would you do if I backed out…?" You tentatively asked your manager in a low voice, making sure that you were the only ones who could hear it.

You know that she heard you, but still, her eyes remained at the center of the room, where all the cameras are pointed at, and where all of the people's attention are currently drawn to.

"Where'd your previous confidence go? I don't remember seeing this hesitance of yours when I first suggested this project." Your manager replies, eyes still not leaving the subject of everyone's attention.

Because standing and posing effortlessly in the middle of everything is Choi San.

The renowned model, Choi San, whose face and body is probably the cover of every magazine you can think of, and who's dominated all the fashion shows you could only dream of attending, this year alone.

He's the king of the fashion and modeling industry, someone who is highly sought-after by every famous designer that you could possibly name at the top of your head. Choi San is a crowd favorite, he practically owns the runway, and he's a total icon to many—the young and the old, the rookies and the veterans.

And not to mention, he's your role model. Someone who you really look up to and perhaps, someone who you wanted to work with.

Right now, you're about minutes into turning that dream into reality, thanks to your manager and your incredibly impulsive self.

"Your thoughts are so loud, I could practically hear it." Your manager suddenly speaks, cutting through your abysmal thoughts. And then she turns to you, jabbing a finger right at your chest and saying, "But there's no way in hell that I'm letting you back out because, first of all, you'll be working with a supermodel, and second, hello?!" She exclaims the last part in a hushed voice with matching wide gestures, that you visibly flinch. However, it seemed like she couldn't care less because she cups your face and turns your head towards the side of the room where a stunning man dressed in an expensive sparkly black suit with a diamond logo on the tie, stood.

"You'll be wearing his creation! The Damian Luxe!" She squeals near your ear, and you grimace, because she is loud, alright.

Damian Luxe is the owner of one of the biggest and leading fashion brands ever known all over the world—Luxe Looks. And right now, you still can't quite believe how he's just a few steps away from you, seemingly engrossed in a conversation with one of the photographers.

You're not sure how he ended up picking you out of all the models out there. Somehow picking you alongside one of the top iconic faces of the fashion industry, to serve as his muses for his newest fashion collection, which is set to be released and made known to the public in less than a month. The pressure that is placed on you is quite heavy since it's just your second year into this modeling career.

And it is a sudden twist and turn from your usual looks and gigs. From being known as a model who has summer vibes, cute, and freshness up their alley, to starring in an intimate and quite sensual photoshoot in honor of Luxe's brand new and bold fashion collection entitled, Pleasures of the Heart.

"Believe me, I was overjoyed when you first told me about it. But really? You didn't even bother telling me that I'll be partnered up with Choi San? The Choi San?" You put quite an emphasis on the word 'the' in order to get your point across and make your manager realize your current dilemma at hand.

Because knowing you? There's a ninety-five percent of you messing this up because of your clumsy ass, the remaining five percent will be you fainting, by the way.

Oh god, you can't possibly do this right?

What if you embarrass yourself in front of him? Would you be able to live with that memory for the rest of your life?

You think not.

However, you weren't even given that much choice when one of the stylists arrives and steals you away from the comfort of your manager's side in order for you to get dolled up and ready for your photoshoot with Choi San.

Here's to fucking it up, I guess, you think, heaving a sigh as you followed the stylist in one of the rooms.

You don't think that Choi San is actually real.

Heck, you didn't even think that someone could possibly make blowing bubble gum as something sexy.

Shivers ran down your spine and goosebumps littered your skin as you watched Choi San angle his face and send sultry looks to every camera pointing at him. If you were confident enough, you might've jumped him already, popping that bubble gum in his mouth and licking it off his lips right after.

Wait what-

You frantically shook your head. Is this what Choi San's alluring effect feels like? Because if it is, then you're so fucked.

Your manager and the stylist earlier, told you that there'll be some duo shots so that means, yes, touching will be involved.

When they first told you that, you weren't sure if you'll be able to pull it off because one, Choi San, is incredibly gorgeous. And two, he's only donned in a coat and pants, and no undershirt in sight! Which leaves a portion of his abs in display for anyone's eyes to feast on—not like you're feasting on them or anything.

You gulp.

Is it really too late to back out?

Moments later, you begin internally thanking the heavens, when Choi San's individual shoot has come to an end and he's called back by one of the stylists for a wardrobe change. Which you think will be in match with the pitch black bodysuit you're currently wearing underneath your robe. The robe isn't part of the look at all, you simply have it on for now because you aren't that confident yet. You honestly think you'll never be but maybe you'll be fine since the stylist said you'll still have one piece to wear later.

A red overcoat to match the red stilettos your feet is currently clad in.

One of the staff tapped you on the shoulder and led you closer to the center, saying that you'll be starting the duo shots in a few minutes.

The staff said it with a sweet smile that you have no choice but to smile back as well even if your insides were already churning and you're starting to break into a cold sweat.

You were in the middle of doing a breathe in and breathe out exercise in order to relax your nerves for a little bit, when you suddenly felt another tap on your shoulder. Thinking that it was probably one of the staff or stylists again, you turned around, only to be met with a pair of deep black cat-like eyes and a dimpled smile.

It was freaking Choi San.

"Nervous?" His voice was a clear rasp. Your knees growing weak at the sight of him in a sheer black tank top, which showed how buff he really was, and the same pants as earlier. His hair is still slick-backed with a few gelled-strands hanging against his forehead. A black biker glasses snugly sitting on top of his head served as his only accessory.

God, he's breathtakingly gorgeous being so close to you like this.

"U-Uh, yes, very, Mr. Choi."

Well done! You just stuttered in front of Choi San. But who wouldn't?

To your surprise, loud laughter comes out from his lips. His pink plump lip—oh would you please snap out of it?!

"Mr. Choi? Oh my, just call me San!" He chuckles. "You're Y/N, right?" He asks, a few moments after, and it prompts you to nod your head.

"You're a pretty little thing aren't you?" San says this so casually that it catches you so off guard, you choke on nothing.

While you're busy trying to re-organize yourself and your breathing, San makes it a mission to further turn you into a flustered mess as he gently pulls you by the waist. Then he leans in, mouth dangerously close to your ear and whispers the words that will certainly haunt your insides for the rest of the time that you'll be stuck in his presence.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of you, pretty."

You and San have been receiving praises from left and right ever since the shoot started. You even heard from the head photographer that you two surprisingly share quite a chemistry in front of the cameras even though it's only your first time pairing up together.

Although, you do admit that you've had your awkward moments prior because, first, it is your first intimate photoshoot, second, your outfit is so far the most revealing you've ever worn despite the overcoat you're wearing, and third, San was very close. Too close.

But it's not like you're complaining anyway. In fact, you think you might be enjoying it a little too much than what you've anticipated. And, you just hope it's not noticeable to him or you'd die of embarrassment as soon as you step out of the studio.

Anyway, you felt every exhale that San had made in the past half hour, and it's very ticklish. But you also felt quite feverish with the way his rough hands seemed scalding hot against your skin, despite his touches and hold on you being gentle.

San was nothing but sweet and kind as he gently coaxed you out of your shell, always guiding you with every pose and expression. Because of him, you're starting to get more comfortable with the theme of the set and the overwhelming attention being poured on you two.

But of course, another challenge was bound to appear and send your mind into a haywire.

"Perfect! Now, let's have you sit on top of San." The head photographer suddenly instructs. "But first, I want you to sit on the floor, San." He adds.

All the while San's following the photographer's direction, you're left frozen, standing on the side, not quite sure if you heard the photographer right.

By the time you've snapped out of your thoughts and you're back to your senses, San's already sitting on the floor with his legs slightly spread out, his arms are kind of spread out as well with his palms completely flat on the floor, and he's slightly leaning back with his toned arms supporting his upper body's weight.

And he's looking at you. Looking at you with an expression you can't exactly figure out.

Before the photographer could even call your name and give you instructions as well, San's already beckoning you over with his index finger.

As if entranced, you walk towards him without any word. And when San told you that you should take off your overcoat, you followed him, dropping the piece of clothing to the floor. Then, when San told you to straddle his lap, you did it without any fuss despite your visible shaking which you're certain that he noticed because he's leaning towards you again.

"I got you, pretty. Didn't I say I'll take care of you, hmm?" San whispers against the shell of your ear. "You'll let me take care of you, right?" He asks when he still gets no response from you.

Inhaling deeply, albeit shakily, you nod your head.

Still not shying away from the close proximity, your breath hitches when San's hands come to wrap around your waist, one of them caresses your side, slightly making you jolt at the suddenness of the action.

"Words, pretty. I need words." San hums.

"Y-Yes. I'll let you take care of me."

"Good girl," He purrs and playfully bites your ear lobe, which, again, sent you lightly trembling as you felt the heat which started to creep its way from your lower abdomen and up to your face.

"Now, I want you to only look at me, alright? Can you do that for me?" San asks, thankfully, now with enough gap between the two of you, enabling you to breathe more easily.

"Yeah, I can do that." You reply and this makes San smile, dimples adorning his face once again.

San shifts underneath you for a bit, his palms at the small of your back. He adjusts your position on top of him and then his hands leave you as he goes back to leaning, but this time, with his hands much further back than before. This subtle change enables him to look up at your face more comfortably.

San instructs you to put your hands on his chest instead of being on top of his shoulders as what the photographer has instructed for you to do. And then, he retracts his right hand from the floor and puts it back on your waist instead.

And just like that it has the photographer screaming delightedly the word, "Excellent!"

"Excellent," San mimics in a soft voice, tongue darting out to lick his own lips, all the while his eyes never left yours. And you reckon, yours didn't leave him as well throughout the entirety of the photoshoot.

Well, after having him this close and looking so out-of-this-world while under you, where you can basically see every twitch of his eyebrows, every contraction of his arm muscles, and every bob of his adam's apple, with his attention all on you and you alone the whole time…you're quite not sure if you'll be able to take your eyes off of him ever again.

If this is how it feels to be under Choi San's alluring gaze, then, oh, you're so fucked, because there seems to be no possible escape, at all.

Champions tirelessly for better roles for black women in TV and film. Outspoken advocate of the #MeToo movement. Passionately antiwar, and works with a number of educational advocacy groups. Has even made a formal speech before Congress.

Her energy is infectious, and her charm is unmatched. A real sweetheart, too. Loves dogs and is a vegan. Advocates tirelessly for animal rights.

Sevika: A rising star, and a fan favorite. She was a former MMA fighter before an accident left her with a paralyzed left arm. She'd been content to go the rest of her life as a trainer, until a talent scout noticed her. She was cast as a supporting character in a cop procedural. It ran three seasons, but her charisma made her a longstanding fandom icon. Audiences in FnF have been clamoring for more screen time, and the writers have been accommodating. Rumor has it that they're working on an origin story arc, where she'll be the main character.

re: the AMVs: "How'd this become a thing? You're all fucking weird." Has an opinion on every video. Doesn't hold back. Her reviews are highly anticipated, and fans love her blunt commentary. She doesn’t ship anyone. But she will like any MelCo tags that cross her Twitter feed.

Not because she thinks they're hot, but because she hates Jayce, and thinks it'd be fun to watch him suffer.

Caitlyn: Nepo baby. Her parents were both Academy Award-nominated actors, who met while filming a romcom. They've had an on-again, off-again relationship for the last thirty years. Cait has been in the industry her whole life, and acting professionally since she was five. Her resume is filled with romantic comedies and period pieces. She's been compared to Audrey Hepburn, and is considered a classic Hollywood beauty. Originally, she was cast in the role of Nandi, opposite "young" Silco. But the Vekauran community derided the casting as whitewashing, and her chemistry with young Silco was totally lacking. She was recast as Vi's romantic interest, and the rest is history.

She's a huge fan of CaitVi, and is known for her frequent appearances at Comic Con. Always happy to pose with cosplayers of her character. She also has a penchant for weird memes.

re: the AMVs: Has a very strict rule about never Googling her name. Opts out of the shipping wars, too. "If it makes people happy, who am I to judge?"

Vander: Former action star, and a fan favorite. Played a superhero vigilante in the late 80s. Known for his iconic lines: "We can do this the easy way. Or the hard way." He had a string of hit films before the industry shifted away from the genre. His career suffered, and he found himself typecast in a string of poorly-received knock-offs of his old films. His final movie tanked at the box office, and he nearly threw in the towel. But his manager convinced him to audition for the show.

He and Silco are known for their on-screen chemistry, and were the subject of a lot of "Are they?" questions. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Vander even stated, "Look, I'd do Silco. It's no secret." Which caused quite the stir on the internet. Sources still aren’t sure if he meant the actor or the character.

He's a huge fan of the show, and a proud member of the fandom. He ships Jinx & Silco, but as platonic soul-family. He's also a CaitVi and Timebomb fan.

re: the AMVs: "Aww, this is cute." He's the most positive out of the bunch.  Is a bit weirded out by the fan obsession with his love life. "I mean, I'm flattered, really. But c'mon, guys. I have a husband." Is super active on Twitter, and frequently replies to fans.

Viktor: Little-known actor from a small country in Eastern Europe. He'd been an up-and-coming romantic hero, guest-starring in a popular soap opera. When a visa snafu kept him from appearing on the show, he was replaced. But the fans revolted. They loved the character, and didn't want to see him gone. The studio listened, and after he found good legal representation, he was able to secure a permanent work visa and keep the role.

Very sweet and reserved; he's not really into social media, or even the internet.

re: the AMVs: Totally geeking out over them. Has a huge crush on Jinxtor, but doesn't realize it's a no-no in the USA as Jinx is 18, and Viktor is 34. He enjoys JayVik as both a scienbros dynamic and as a romantic couple.

Favorite ship is SkyVik. He's even collaborated with a few AMV creators on Youtube on a whole collection of SkyVik videos.

Silco: Indie darling. He was a teen star in the early 80s, and garnered a small but loyal fanbase. His first film was a horror flick, where he played a troubled runaway who'd been possessed by a demon. The raw animalism of the performance garnered him a Golden Globe nomination, and his subsequent projects had a similar gothic flair. He's also starred in a number of subversive art house films. His breakout role was the dissolute vampire king in the cult classic, "Blood for Blood" - for which he snagged an Oscar nod.

IRL he's a vocal advocate for unionization, and regularly attends protests in support of worker's rights. Conversely, he's also a vocal proponent of capital punishment.

re: the AMVs: Is mystified at first. Then intrigued. Then appreciative. "This is quite good. The editing. The cinematography. The music. It's not all amateurish, as one might expect." Mostly, he's a silent observer. Always watching, and seldom commenting. A veritable mystery.

He ships CaitVi, but only for the aesthetic. Jilco gets a raised eyebrow and a headshake. Vanco gets a crooked smile. Sevilco, and he'll actually chuckle.

"You are a strange, strange people."

His favorite ship is Melco. Largely because he and Mel had a fling irl during his tenure on the show.

Ekko: Hearthrob of the fanbase. He's an influencer, and runs a YouTube channel where he reviews tech toys and gadgets. His fans are mostly teens, and he has an adorable 'too cool for school' schtick. He's a huge nerd, though, and is actually a prodigy when it comes to mechanical engineering. His parents were scientists, and he was homeschooled his whole life. He got his first TV role by winning a game show, where he had to create a prototype toy that would be marketed and sold to kids.

He's also the funniest out of the cast. And he knows it. Always quick with a zinger, and can turn even the most awkward situation into a comedy routine.

re: the AMVs: Cracks up over the first few videos. Then becomes an avid fan of the whole genre. Has a soft spot for Timebomb, but he and Jinx are friends irl, so he doesn't want to make things weird. Comes up with his own random ships to troll the fanbase.

Diana Rigg - (The Avengers, Diana) - Honestly? Just check her out as Emma Peel in any episode of The Avengers. The character herself was a legend - an exceptional spy, wonderful fighter, certified genius, a true feminist role model - not to mention a renowned sex symbol (that leather catsuit... heavens help me...) and fashion icon. As for Diana personally, she was once described by Michael Parkinson as "the most desirable woman he ever met, who radiated a lustrous beauty". She could pivot from funny quips and endearing jokes to stone-cold badassery like it was nothing, and she looked stunning either way. I adore her most for her haunting turn in Sapphire and Steel opposite similar babe material David McCallum. Her cheer shines through a chilly exterior, and she balances underrated scream queen content with caring and heartfelt moments. When people think of The Avengers, they think Steed and Peel (or they think the marvel property but that’s neither here nor there). I know people who thought Mrs. Peel was the ONLY woman Steed worked with, Diana Rigg was Just That Good (she was only on two seasons!). She was one of those actors that could so perfectly play comedy in any form, her dry, sardonic wit was marvelous, but so was her physical and slapstick comedy, and she could do drama too! If you’ve seen her in interviews you’d also know how fabulously humble and kind she was. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more attracted to a TV woman than I’ve been to Diana Rigg. Some photos of her:

First of all I hope I'm not overstepping by doing this on your blog and for staying off anon because I'm frankly too old to be hiding behind the little gray icon dude I've been doing the fandom thing for close to 15 years (God I'm old).

As someone who came back to tumblr (hadn't opened tumblr in like 6 years) exclusively to keep an eye on the TZP tag because he's the first actor I have a genuine interest in years, not only because he's the most beautiful man I've ever seen but also because he's engaging and funny and charismatic and because I think he could really go places if he was allowed good roles, actors can be naturally talented but most actors really get their chops from working with good directors and actively learning on set from their peers.

(As a disclaimer, I love Nick he's great and I hope his career thrives.)

Which is why the fact that people who constantly compare his career to Nick's is incredibly belittling, as your anons pointed out Taylor isn't white and that cuts the roles he can auditioned for by like 80%, the fact of the matter is TZP is always going to have a hard time finding roles because to most casting directors casting a white man is going to be easier than having to make space for a POC.

I can only assume that most of the vitriol from Nick's (who is an absolutely lovely dude) fans comes from plain old jealousy, TZP is out here hustling, attending events, etc. While Nick is not, how this is somehow Taylor's fault in their eyes? I don't even want to guess. The truth of the matter is that Taylor has to do all those things because he runs the risk of fading, he needs the networking and the connections if he wants to continue his career which is a sad truth.

On the topic of fashion, I'm only a casual observer but my god is it hard in the fashion world. Making a foothold in an industry that is filled with old brands set in their ways and where nepotism is rampant, more so than Hollywood, is almost impossible so that fact that Taylor has is beyond impressive. A career in fashion could even be more lucrative for him than an acting career which is unpredictable, a lot of people forget fashion is not just the models and the designer but all the behind the scene people that run the fashion houses, so saying Taylor is just a fashion boy? Sure, but fashion would be an amazing career path to follow, specially because Taylor believes deeply in sustainable fashion, he could really make a difference working in a behind the scenes role.

Ngl I've been giggling about the anon saying that Taylor isn't filming anything right now because he said he had a movie coming up, as if saying that somehow makes Taylor a liar. Here's the thing about that no one is filming anything right now, award season just started, Hollywood is too busy making nice with each other to make movies or shows right now, half the battle of winning awards is kissing the ass of the voters, as someone who enjoys the fashion of award season the sheer amount of events for the next month or so is wild, the stars are going to be very busy looking pretty.

No point to this rant really, just as someone who chooses to lurk around here and other places, is really starting to grind on my gears that some of Nick's fans will put down Taylor for no really reason while I've never seen this behavior from a Taylor towards Nick.

But there are people who are terrified there is someone other than Nick out there who is appreciated and loved and continuing to tear Taylor down like that only shows how privileged they are for not seeing the reality and the struggle that poc have to do, and Taylor specifically in this moment, in that industry.

By the way how sad and insensitive it is after seeing a movie like rwrb and the people who worked on it and seeing how much heart they put into it to keep saying that Nick is the only good one who works and will works and he is done and over rwrb and he doesn't need that movie when even Aneesh some days ago in her stories said she hasn't had any roles yet and is it so difficult for her to find a job?

Okay, this question is fascinating because it really gets at the what the Social Model of Disability means by disability being situation-specific and society-constructed.

The Social Model defines disability as any bodily difference that is treated as abnormal, undesirable, and incorrect by society. For example, some types of facial scarring fit, and others don't. Harrison Ford and Jason Momoa likely don't count, because their facial scarring is widely considered normal or neutral. Seal and Kane Hodder might count as disabled, because Seal has endured many rude comments on his appearance and Hodder has been barred from a lot of roles due to his. If this seems arbitrary and cruel, then that's because discrimination is, in fact, arbitrary and cruel. A person with a cast on their arm is treated as infirm and needing help, albeit temporarily; a person with a compression brace on their arm gets the prosthesis ignored or othered. Deafness is a disability if no one around knows Sign and assistive technology is stigmatized; it stops being a disability the moment 3+ Deaf people hang out together. It really is that arbitrary, whom society treats as being disabled.

Anyway, within that framework, I would say that needing glasses used to count as a disability, but doesn't anymore.

Glasses certainly used to be stigmatized, because that's ableism for you. I have two loved ones (spouse, high school BFF) who A. can't read the top row of an eye chart that's 3' away, B. love learning and school, and C. refused to wear glasses in the 1990s even though it made learning impossible, because of the bulllying they got for needing lenses. And those are just the ones I know. I think about both of those kids, voracious learners who sacrificed their ability to read the board in order to avoid stigma, and I compare them to the (at least two) kids I know today who endure unneeded pain because they're too ashamed to use their canes in public.

However, there was a change in the mid-naughts. More and more TV characters had glasses, and not just the socially incompetent nerds anymore. Harry Potter becoming the icon of the naughts with glasses (and facial scarring!) probably helped. Fashion models wearing those black plastic frames certainly helped. A critical mass of so many young people needing corrective lenses (because of increased screentime in childhood) definitely helped move glasses away from "abnormal".

One signal for me that glasses no longer count as a disability is It (2019). The It novel and 1998 movie portray Richie Tozier's needing glasses as his qualification for the Losers Club — a group of kids who are friends because for various reasons (fatness, minority status, poverty, etc.) they're not allowed to fit in and will never fit in. The 2017-19 It movies give Richie glasses, but make it clear that he qualifies for the Losers Club not because he's myopic but because he's queer. (For example, he's chased by a living eyeball in the book, but the movie instead has him attacked while carving his initials next to another boy's.) A related example is the subtitles for Ouran High School Host Club; Honey's line from the scene where Kyoya gets hit in the face was translated in 2006 as "Bully! You can't hit someone who wears glasses!" but in 2022 as "Bully! You knocked his glasses off!", which suggests glasses are no longer viewed as an infirm condition.

So. I think an andalite would have to have any disability explained to them before they started stigmatizing it, because wheelchair use only counts as a disability because people make rude comments and refuse to build elevators. And I think that an andalite who arrived on Earth in 1996 might develop a different view from one who arrived in 2022. But it'd also depend on what part of Earth they explored, who they talked to, and a million other horribly arbitrary factors that determine whose body gets counted as being "wrong" by society.

Louis Tomlinson - LGBTQ icon

A moot on Twitter asked me for some sources, so I decided to put them here in case it was helpful to others. I don't claim that this is all encompassing or definitive.

There isn’t only one instance of Louis alluding to being a part of the LGBTQ community. It’s repetitive and continuous across years. It’s the cumulative instances that make it definitive for me. While he has said that he’s straight a couple of times, it’s been in writing (most notable on Twitter on 11/10/14, and detailed in this article: 'F***ing ridiculous' 1D Louis in meltdown after wrongly thinking reporter called him gay - Daily Star, which was notably the day after he wore this shirt in support of Apple CEO Tim Cook and a couple days AFTER Harry Styles said "not that important" in reference to a dream date being female--there's some debate as to whether Louis was in control of his SM that day, but I digress), and he never once adequately denied being in a relationship with Harry verbally. It’s important to remember he’s closeted.

While I personally think he’s been in a long term monogamous relationship with Harry, most of these aren’t about Larry. I think it’s important that both men stand as strong LGBTQ icons/role models apart from their connection together.

Nothing here proves anything about his sexuality or how he personally identifies. I don't claim to know how he identifies. This is simply a list of ways he seems to message that he aligns himself with the LGBTQ community. For me, it’s the cumulative moments that make it impossible to dispute. Anyone reading this is entitled to make your own opinion of what he means.

Love her or hate her, Barbie is iconic. I have no clue why she was stereotyped as an airheaded bimbo, when canonically she has been a doctor, astronaut, scientist, etc. Like most girls, I have fond memories of playing dolls with friends, and not-so-fond memories of siblings, cousins, etc ruining my toys, cutting their hair, covering them with mud, tattooing them with sharpies, etc.

In girl scouts, I remember each troop had to represent a different country/culture for world tolerance day or some such. So our project was singing the Barbie song in German! I still kinda remember the lyrics. 🎼Ich bin ein Barbie frau, en einer Barbie velt...🎶

On a side note, I also remember our troop representing the UK one year, because I was obsessed with The Beatles and JRR Tolkien. Good times, good times. I was a weird, nerdy kid, and I haven't changed much over the years. This is kinda embarrassing, but I played with dolls well into middle school. What can I say, I loved making up stories in my own imaginary fantasy world. Still kind of do, as a writer.

I had a Pocahontas Barbie... Hip to be Square Barbie...Of course I had the mermaid that changed the color of her hair and tail, depending on if the water was hot or cold...I had a slumber party Barbie with a soft body like a stuffed animal, so you could snuggle in bed. She also came with accessories like an inflatable chair, a box of pizza, a houseplant, and a globe. Perfect for 90s sleepovers!

One Christmas, I was gifted a special edition millennium Barbie for the year 2000. I was too young to understand collectibles, all I knew was it was the prettiest doll I'd ever seen, with her fancy gold dress and matching Christmas ornaments, and couldn't wait to play with it, so I didn't understand why everyone was so shocked when I opened the box and did just that.

I had a few of the Mattel pets, including a fluffy white cat, and a fancy Collie dog. Of course I had the sparkly white unicorn/pegasus horse with wings AND a horn, and a long pretty mane and tail that you could brush, braid, and style. I had a ton of horses in general. Including My Little Pony. And lots of dolls, not just Barbie, but also Polly Pocket, random stuffed animals, etc. Another random sidenote... I remember I used to watch a lot of PBS as a kid... I was fascinated by The Nightly Business Report... So I had my own version, The Nightly Horse Report, and all the new anchors, journalists, and correspondents were horses... Facepalm. 🤦🏽‍♀️

But in high school, I was an edgy, angsty teenager. I rejected Barbie as a sexist symbol of rigid gender roles and corporate greed. One of my aquaintances had dismembered Barbie body parts dangling from her backpack, which I thought was pretty cool. I also took the Barbies from a classmate's diorama when they didn't want them anymore. I don't know what book they were reading in the other Senior AP Literature Class, but it must have been a dark one, because the Barbies were scantily clad in plain white robes/togas, their hands were bound, they were blindfolded, and they were hanging from nooses. Yeah. Yikes. Anyway I used them for home decor in my college dorm, and even in my first apartment. Like I said, I only seem to get even weirder and creepier with age!

Then again, when I was a bratty teenage girl, my idea of feminism was misguided. In retrospect, I actually embodied a lot of internalized misogyny and toxic femininity myself. Joining the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance), poetry club, yearbook, and other extracurricular activities helped me keep an open mind and learn better social skills. The brand Tupperware has become so synonymous with food storage that many people use its name when referring to any old plastic container.

But the 77-year-old US company is seeing cracks form in the once revolutionary air-tight sealing business that made it famous, with rising debts and falling sales prompting a warning it could go bust without investment.

Despite attempts to freshen up its products in recent years and reposition itself to a younger audience, it has failed to stop a slide in its sales.

The firm's 'Tupperware parties' made it an icon during the 1950s and 1960s consumer revolution, and its air-tight and water-tight containers took the market by storm.

But its core business model of using self-employed salespeople who sell primarily from their own homes has been going out of fashion for a while, and was retired altogether in the UK in 2003.

Now company bosses have admitted that, without new funding, a brand name which has passed into common parlance could vanish from the market.

"We use it (Tupperware) as a noun, which is quite unusual for a brand," said Catherine Shuttleworth, founder of retail analysis firm Savvy Marketing.

"I think a lot of younger people will be surprised it is a brand in itself."

While Tupperware was a "miracle product" when first sold decades ago, Ms Shuttleworth added, the market has been flooded by companies offering cheaper alternatives in recent years.

A resurgence during the Covid-19 pandemic, buoyed by people taking up baking and cooking more at home, reversed sharp falls in Tupperware's share price.

But the rise turned out to be temporary.

Sales have slid again since then, largely because the firm has not been "innovative enough" over the past 10 to 20 years to keep up with its rivals, according to Ms Shuttleworth.

A lack of innovation is a far-cry from its early days.

The company was founded in 1946 by a man, the inventor Earl Tupper, but its public face was a woman: Brownie Wise.

Tupper's product was a big deal - it utilised new plastics to keep food fresh for longer - invaluable when refrigerators were still too expensive for many - but until Wise came along, it was not selling.

She had already started organising events to sell the containers, meeting directly with the housewives and mothers the company wanted to reach, at gatherings which were as much about socialising as they were about business.

Her innovative style - and her sales figures - caught the eye of Tupper, and she was promoted to executive level at a time when women were largely excluded from the boardroom.

Wise's and Tupperware's impact is still debated by academics, but many say it played an important role in bringing women into the workforce in post-war America, and provided a source of income to other women around the world.

Tupperware has been trying to change its image from house parties in years gone by to younger shoppers

One of them is Alison Clarke, professor of design history and theory at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, and author of Tupperware: The Promise of Plastic in 1950s America.

"I think its legacy is the way in which it has provided a source of employment to women who don't always have access to flexible labour," she told the BBC.

"At the time it was first being sold at parties in the US, lots of women were isolated in new post-war suburban towns away from their families.

"The Tupperware parties glamourised dull housework, and you could only buy it if you knew someone who sold it, so it was exclusive, and social, and about relationships with other women.

"I started off thinking it was an exploitative capitalist conspiracy against women, and then I met all of these women who had a fantastic life because of it and saw how it was empowering for them."

'Failed to change'

While the company has always been woman-led on the ground, that has not necessarily been the case in the boardroom - and Prof Clarke says it has struggled to tell its own positive story, or keep up with the times.

"It was a brilliantly designed product that was made magical by the way it was sold," she added, "but in this digital world, that face-to-face model is no longer as relevant".

That is an analysis shared by Neil Saunders, managing director of retail at the consultancy GlobalData,

He said Tupperware had "failed to change with the times" in terms of its products and distribution, highlighting that the method of selling direct through its parties "was not connecting" with either young or older customers.

Younger consumers have also embraced more environmentally-friendly products such as beeswax paper to keep food fresh, he added.

Richard Hyman, another retail analyst, said the basic principles of Tupperware's products were "not difficult to copy" by other firms. Given that fierce competition, he said the company had "had a good run".

The company has made some efforts to diversify its strategy, including by selling in US retail chain Target and others around the world, and expanding its range to include other cooking products.

Had Tupperware made bigger changes 10 years ago, Mr Saunders added, the firm might be in a different position now.

But now there is no time for Tupperware bosses to wonder what might have been. The company could go bust without a rapid cash injection - and with such a well-known brand name, the prospect of a retail giant like Walmart or even Amazon swooping in cannot be ruled out, Mr Saunders says.

Hearing that is honestly sad because at their age, usually adolescents simply want to be accepted by society and their peers and when individuals don't identify with their sex, it is deemed "weird" and "unnatural" by society, causing them to be bullied and ridiculed which no one should have to face by simply being themselves and not what society claims they are.

There's always debate on what looks good and doesn't or what is considered fashionable or not. I love to dress how I want and wear what I want and some people don't agree because it doesn't fit in their definition of what is considered "fashion". I've always loved dressing differently and I don't let other people's opinions dictate how I feel about myself and my choice of what I wear. I always say that fashion has no rules or no definition. It's what you want it to be. I'm not saying that she's a fashion icon or anything, but I've always taken inspo and look up to India Love in terms of fashion. She dresses literally however she wants and looks good doing it and I think the majority of society needs to pick up on this mentality. People are so critical and judgy nowadays it's disgusting, but I won't go on a tangent about how bad and sh*tty society and the world is today.
