How Good the RvB Main Cast is at Cooking, Ranked from Best to Worst

1. Donut

Donut gives off the vibe of one of those gay men with a baking channel on YouTube. This man's out here rolling up to the red team monthly dinner club with frenched rack of lamb with a pistachio mint crust and wine accompaniment, then earl grey souffle with creme anglaise for dessert. He spends hours experimenting with new and interesting ingredients. Remy Ratatouille, send-you-back-to-rural-France ass man. Donut's food fucks hard and everyone knows it.

2. Grif

You really think my man Grif loves food as much as he does and doesn't know how to make it? C'mon. He doesn't, like, relish the act of cooking as much as he does having a good plate of food at the end of it. And he's not typically much for sharing. But my guy makes a damn good short rib and bechamel lasagna. Give him the day to let something slow cook, and god damn.

3. Wash

Wash has been living off of MREs for probably his entire adult life, but I feel like he's got a few dishes he can whip out for a date night, or if he's feeling fancy. He knows how to read a recipe, and he has a pretty good idea of what flavors go together to make something good. He probably has a really nice papardelle with vinho verde sauce that he has sitting around in the back of his head for special occasions.

4. Tucker

Okay, Tucker isn't a bad cook by any means, ok? He's great with breakfast food specifically. It's just that he isn't especially fancy about it. He was probably, like, a line cook at Denny's in high school, so all his food tastes like food you would get at Denny's. Which isn't a bad thing! You would just never call Denny's "fine dining". He has his niche, and he does it well, and he never feels even a little bit inclined to do anything different or better.

5. Church (Alpha)

Church isn't much of a foodie right off the bat, but someone's got to pack Caboose's lunch, and he ends up learning how to cook fairly well after that. After a certain point, he figures out how to make things from scratch--mostly things like chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, pancakes.

6. Simmons

I feel like Simmons mostly lives off of shit like green smoothies and homemade granola. Like, hardcore, low carb, vegan, all organic, high protein diet. And, like, it doesn't taste BAD. But it definitely isn't the kind of thing you bring to the red team dinner club. He does make a really nice sunbutter brownie that he has to hide from Grif.

7. Caboose

Caboose has been banned from using any objects in the kitchen that involve a heat source--which isn't HIS fault! How was he supposed to know that you're supposed to take the spoon OUT of the mac and cheese before putting it in the microwave? That's just a recipe for a cold spoon! Anyways, he manages just fine without the microwave, thank you very much. He can make ants on a log like it's nobody's business. Cleaning up afterwards is another matter entirely.

8. Carolina

Carolina is one of the most competent individuals you will ever meet. She could kill you in under a minute, in 30 different ways, and that's just with her bare hands. The fourth time Sarge tries to recruit her into red team is by inviting her to the monthly dinner club. She shows up empty handed, and when Donut very politely asks what she brought, she replies that it's very interesting that they expected the only woman on the team to go all out with cooking. They move on. Carolina spent 5 hours in the kitchen this afternoon trying to figure out how to use the oven. But they don't need to know that.

9. Tex

Now, listen. Tex can't be called a bad cook, precisely, because that would require she cook for herself or others. Which is something she does not do. That's what Church is for, isn't it?

10. Sarge

Sarge refuses to step foot in a kitchen after the fifth shouting match about how flamethrowers are not a universally recognized kitchen appliance.

11. Church (Epsilon)

One time, while blue team is shooting the wind, Caboose asks Epsilon what his favorite breakfast food is. Instead of calling Caboose a dumbass, as per usual, he instead goes into extensive detail about how he eats computer keys like cereal. Caboose tries it. It isn't very good.

This Week in BL - No Thoughts Only Bed Friends

March 2023 Wk 3

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Bed Friend (Sat YT, GaGa & iQIYI uncut) ep 5 of 8 - Consent King is great. The nail clipping injury thing was absurd. I love King’s admission that he’s attracted to Uea’s cool aloof meanness. Also I like that office politics and nepotism have come in to play, this is an office romance after all. King’s “back the fuck off” expression is one of the best. And then there are bits of the friendship/work dynamics that are laugh out loud funny. This is a great show.

A Boss and a Babe (Fri YouTube) ep 3 of 12 - I honestly can’t decide about the babe character. Do I like him or is he too much an idiot? There is a way to play innocence where it’s cheeky not frustrating, but this is edging on frustrating. Mr Boss is a hard core flirt. What is this I feel? Just… old fashioned trope exhaustion. I HATE the younger brother character but love the home family. All in all, this show still makes me smile, not sure why, but it keeps me watching.

Tin Tam Jai (Tues Gaga & iQIYI) ep 3 of 12 - Continues to be slice of life sweet and somewhat silly. Second lead syndrome strikes... and then vanishes.

Pastsenger (Thai Weds Gaga) 2 of 12 eps - I just don’t like any of the characters. They’re boring. Also we are back to that old pulp mistake of not matching foundation properly and not blending at the jaw line. Which I find endlessly distracting. I do like that the sunshine idiot time traveller is trying to take care of his dead bestie’s kid and said kid is hella gay for it.

The Promise (Thai Weds YT) ep 3 of 10 - I’m bored.

Chains of Heart (Sat iQIYI) ep 5 of 10 - A confession is not an excuse. Do we trust Leu or not? Now a random doctor character has shown up? It feels like we are watching the whole thing out of sequence, not just the flashbacks but as if the story hasn’t been edited together properly. what is going on?

Our Winter (Thai & Korea YT & TikTok under ThaiMiniSeries) ep 12-13 of 14 - whatever.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Our Dating Sim (Korea Thurs Viki) eps 3-4 of 8 - I can’t. It’s so good. They’re so good... and so bad at flirting. And SO into each other. The saddest part of my week is reading the phrase “the next episode will not be available for 7 days.”

All the Liquors (Korea Thurs Gaga & Viki) eps 5-6 of 8 - That’s it, that’s the reason? The chef is allergic to alcohol? I don’t understand, why such a big deal? What happened to that plot point? Why did he change his mind? OK, I guess that is the end of that conflict? Now we’re in it just for a cute romcom? Fine. Who needs story structure? Especially when they have a date that is all about tasting local food and baby boy has a cute striped sweater with extra long flappity-flappy sleeves. The credit extras sequence was GREAT! I found the two gay boys expressions over the hets flirting = one if the most relatable moments in BL cinematic history.

Unintentional Love Story (Korea Fri iQIYI) 1-2 of 10- Ji Won Young is intent on winning over the heart of Yoon Tae Joon as he's the boss's favorite artist. Plot: evil corporation is evil, artist is DEEP and not evil. Opens with a wrongful termination, debt issues, bird poop, & broken plate = our poor sunshine cutie can’t catch a break. Gongchan (maknae of B1A4) is GREAT in this role. Like really good. The tsundere ceramicist better be in hiding for a DAMN good reason. I don’t wan’t to be in another Liquors sitch. Meanwhile: “just a little kabedon to see if you’re gay“ really? That’s your excuse? Love the cafe owner & combative foodie romance boys, side dish syndrome coming on strong already. (The guy playing the muscled waiter is the lead from You Make Me Dance). [FYI I had to search on Google to find it on iqiyi, for some reason they weren’t listing the first 2 eps internally: Ep 1, Ep 2]

A Shoulder to Cry On (Korea Tues Viki & Gaga) eps 1-2 of 7 - Adaptation of Dongmul's manwha, high school set, features a teasing confident gay, and a rich/poor pairing. Star idols Jaehan & Yechan BOTH from OMEGA X, a first for the industry. AND..... I don’t like it. Very bully romance, without the mature teasing of Semantic Error or the kinky hotness of My Beautiful Man. I HATE outing with false accusations (implication = to be gay is evil), aided and abetted by adults. (It’s as close to a trigger as I get.) It makes for an unforgivable bad-boy character. Lots of the “crash into me“ trope. (Who do they think they are? Taiwan?) I’ll keep watching but I’m not happy about it, and I don’t see how they can possibly redeem the bad boy - tragic past or no. Now that he switched to flirting the dynamic is better, but I will never trust him.

Jack o’Frost (Japan Fri GaGa) ep 5 of 6 - Honestly? Perhaps their relationship should end. Why do I care? They seem ill suited.

It’s Airing But ...

Love Syndrome (Thai Sat WeTV) stopped at ep 2 of 12 - I’m just not into any aspect of it (except Lee Long Shi and I can watch him in Tin Tem Jai) - saving to binge if the end is solid.

Blue Sky Complex (Japan ???) 5 eps for VR - Kei Ichikawa's manga is getting a JBL adaptation. Weird distribution though, it started Feb 27 sequentially on 360 Channel (SHOCHIKUch) a VR video distribution service. Will inter-fans ever get to see this, and if it’s filmed for VR will it adapt without being overly dark and fuzzy? I have questions. But as usual, you do you Japan and we will wait (im)patiently to see if you remember the rest of the world exists. This is my preferred kind of live action yaoi, so fingers crossed.

Boyband (Thai) ep 2 of 10 - Stopped airing on YouTube, and only available in Thailand & Japan. Not sure if they’re working a distribution deal or just fucking with us.

Cafe In Love (Thai ???) 10 eps on Ch3+ - Thai pulp, about trying to save a coffee shop. FairyGodBLer came through for me, but I’m collecting to binge just in case. It’s my new policy with the grey stuff.

Destiny Seeker (Tues WeTV Thailand) 10 eps - it’s not on any WeTV I can get ahold of. Bad Buddy the pulp rebirth meets Japanese handsome host club action. Same as above.

Heesu In Class 2 (Korea Thurs unknown, I check Viki Gaga iQIYI & WeTV nada) - A gay(er) version of Sex Education. I’m still not sure this one is actually happening.

Laos produced their version of Boys Over Flowers called Oh My 4. It is... not very good BUT 2 of the F4 have a BL arc with each other!!! (The bad boy and the musician.) You know I’ve been wanting the all gay BoF for YEARS but this is as close as we’ve gotten. Don’t ask, I have no idea how to get it all. But some of it is on YT.

Tomorrow: Future (Thai Sun YouTube & Gaga) ep 1 of 5 - Based on a y-novel by Faddest (En of Love) about an engineering student and a dentist. We can expect this one to be soft, it’s from the 21 Day Theory people.

3/22: Make a Wish (Thai Weds YouTube) from WaGa Creative staring Fluke Natouch (OhmFluke UWMA etc...) & Judo (The Miracle Of Teddy Bear) in a medical-fantasy. It seems to be a light-hearted romance with a comedic flair. About a doctor who sees ghosts and a deity who resides in a Bodhi tree that earns merits whenever he fulfills a wish based on a y-novel by Sammon (Manner of Death, Triage).

content: super macho man, mr. sandman, bear hugger, great tiger, don flamenco, aran ryan

super macho man the world's most ambiguous bisexual. he is aware what a big part of his fanbase is gay people esp those who find him hot as fuck and he loves them. he's so jennifer coolidge thanking all the evil gays when he was named #1 at the title in the world

he enjoys whenever anyone tries to "secretly" or flat out ask him what his sexuality is because he takes the time to make fun of them. "i heard you perform for the many gay men in your audience-" "i do." (refusing to break eye contact until they move on)

he also loves going as rocky from the titular horror picture show for halloween. or anytime he already dresses like him on a regular basis

he has serious face blindness and due to this he unintentionally got himself into a situationship with disco kid (one sided. disco doesn't care what they are) and has multiple* girlfriends from spain

(* it's one woman and you'll never guess who. she's hitting him with the fujiko mine maneuvers)

they really ramped up the comparisons between mr sandman and mike tyson in wii but since he was his own character way before that, i'd like to believe sandman knows nothing abt him outside of cultural osmosis. he just wanted a cool alternative haircut that wouldn't expose just how emo he really is

he's the youngest of three kids. oldest is santino middle is shireen and sandy's real name is samar. yes god patterns

(btw what made me hc samar is bc in sanskrit it can mean success after hard work. that's him i know him)

he only goes to his sister for his haircuts because she's a booked and busy hairstylist and that's pretty much all thanks to sandy. growing up she took issue with how black hair was such an afterthought in hair styling so every chance she got she sat sandy down and tested her designs on him (and if it looked good she applied the same methods to her own hair)

the rest of his family tree is a little convoluted though. his parents divorced when he was nine, and shortly after his brother santino emancipated himself and then won the lottery at 16?? so at that point sandy and shireen were dividing their time between three homes

his sister was kind of the only person who was a constant source of stability after that. like don't get him wrong his parents absolutely adored them but their dad put a lottt of emphasis on putting in hard work to become the greatest while their mom lives by the rules of self care and knowing your limits. spending time with their parents took a lot out of them and they would have gone insane without each other

unfortunately sandy didn't come out of being raised like that. unscathed. he heavily compartmentalizes his own emotions into the "boxing him" (feels no emotion, strong, unbeatable) and the "other him" (everything else, i.e. weak). that need to be the best is why his weakness is exhausting himself

yeah sandman's the best. at first he enjoyed the performance of it all, and especially how proud he was making his family. he's still an expert on making the media work for him but for the first time in his life he's starting to get more out of what he does for himself

sandman and joe are real close nowadays. it's interesting to understand basically your polar opposite so deeply and all that but joe brings out sandman's genuine laugh like no one else

(who framed roger rabbit moment. "what do you see in that guy anyway" "he makes me laugh.")

every time bear hugger tastes something good in a restaurant he shouts out "THIS is de-LICIOUS! whoever made this should be VERY PROUD! (pointing at the waiter) THANK YOU FOR BRINGING ME THIS" and tips a small fortune

yes he did do this multiple times at a high dining restaurant and was solemnly asked to leave. he was laughing about it though bc all the snooty foodies hated it. the chef sent him an invitation for two seats in a private dinner because he was so charming. bear brought along hondo because "you know about food eh"

great tiger was pretty shy and antisocial as a bab especially due to his parent's fame. (his mom was an actor n his dad of course is a magician) to help him get over that his mom often brought him on set to her acting gigs and his dad let him watch his shows offstage. he learned that everyone would awww and be more friendly if he acted a little shy first

he had a system. come in holding mom/dad's hand. mom/dad introduces me and tell me to say hi. i act like i'm about to speak UNTIL i hide my face behind mom/dad's leg. everyone smiles. shout hello and smile big. everyone now loves me

actually his first movie role was with his mum at three years old. it was nearly 3 am and he was sound asleep waiting to go home. there was only one more scene to film; a flashback where the main actor came home to see his wife (played by mumma tiger) tucking their child into bed. in order to wrap filming, tiger's mom suggested using great tiger since he was sound asleep already. he semi woke up in bed being kissed on the forehead, and assuming he was back home, mumbled "baba" and hugged the actor. that went into the final movie

he was the world's cutest kid and his parents smothered him in love. they're still very close although mumma tiger is always prepared with embarassing baby pictures and purposefully ruining his untouchable facade

the first time great tiger used magic he had no idea it was impossible. tiger got into a tiff with his father and he got so mad when he was told to get in the corner he stomped up the kitchen wall and nestled himself in the ceiling corner glaring. his dad was so shocked that he just went silent

(and then great tiger nearly passed out from magical exertion and his dad had to dive across the room to catch him)

tiger is very much a professional. no one has ever been in the same room with him before he was 100% ready and flawless either for public outings or for the ring

you know how i mentioned smm's spanish girlfriend. well

don doesn't really encourage carmen's "money making schemes" but he loves her anyway. i mean god forbid women do anything

he did show up undercover in a really big hat and sunglasses to try and tell carmen to ease up but macho said i'm gonna do what's called a pro bisexual move

now don is involved in the smm polycule. he tried not to be because he felt bad that super macho man didn't recognize him but he will not lie he enjoys having lunch with smm once carmen goes back home. plus he enjoys fighting over who pays the bill

he calls his disguise self juan ricardo. and juan can sit on a 200 pound weight and be benchpressed if he wants to

aran ryan watches every movie. doesn't matter what it is who it's intended for or how many times he's watched it he is in that theater. he does shout at it though so for everyone's safety his home cinema gets the most milage

his favorite genre is science fiction. mostly because a good number of them are reeeeeal bad but also because he wrote copious amounts of space exploration stories as a kid

he has reaaaaaaaally strong emotions about the movies he likes and even the ones he really hates. if someone gets the reason why it's good or bad wrong (in his head) he would like to hit them with a hammer

he made a knockoff of calvin and hobbes's "spaceman spiff" for his middle school newspaper called Geordie v. The Galaxy where the first man in space keeps accidentally insulting every alien and getting chased off the planet but he can't stop traveling because Earth banished him for being annoying. there were absolutely no reasons why the character had that backstory. (/lie)

his sister calls him irn bru. she is the only one who can because otherwise he will grip you by the shoulder and explain to you calmly but unmistakably threateningly how you really ought to reevaluate your mindset on the people of ireland because either you are ignorant or actively choosing to be an ignorant asshole in order to make stale jokes.

Sabai (สบาย) means to be at ease or relaxed, and this book promises recipes that you can cook yourself even on a workday evening. 😍

You can pre-order Pai's new book at this link here. (This is not a paid promo by the way, just helping to spread the word and hopefully a little gastronomic happiness as well.)

On her YouTube channel, Pai also has recipes for some of the dishes you see in Thai BLs (no idea if she watches them though; they're just well-known dishes that she did her own spin on).

You can follow her making them there, and this trained Thai-born chef is also wholly, dazzlingly articulate in English (as fluent as actor Bible Wichapas) so there are never any lost-in-translation moments:

Last tv show/movie: Hoo boy, I watch a lot because I have stuff on while I draw, and also while I had covid and couldn't do anything else. I'm currently rewatching Elementary, just finished rewatching Deadloch too(I like my repeat watchings!). I watch Taskmaster with @shadowthehedgehog1 as they come out and am giving Attack on Titan a go with my spouse. It's a bit overly angsty/dramatic for my taste in places but I reckon i'll stick with it. Oh and I finished Scavengers Reign a few days ago too, top notch sci fi! Movie wise the last one I watched was Dungeons and Dragons Honour among thieves and I loved it.

Spicy/sweet/savory?: Savoury, but I'm a big foodie and love sweet and spicy too. Franks Red hot my beloved.

Currently reading: Focusing on reading physical books drains my spoons unfortunately. I am snail crawling my way through 'who hunts the whale' by Laura Kate Dale and Jane Earith Magnet. It's great! It'll just take me forever.

Last thing I googled: Is there a way to do oil paint glazing glaze technique in procreate digital painting (short answer: no! Or at least no one has written a tutorial about that specifically so I'll have to just keep doing my own chaotic thing. Anyway I ended up down an oil painting rabbithole and am now drawing fruit with a new brush pack instead of the piece I was actually trying to draw lmao)

Some of my Marauders era/Harry Potter Headcanons

Professor McGonagall was considered a patient teacher until the Prewett twins and the Marauders, so when the Weasley twins and Prongslet started Hogwarts, she just knew it would be a chaotic repeat of events.

"Well, thank you for that assessment, Mr Weasley. Perhaps it would be more useful if I were to transfigure Mr Potter and yourself into a pocket watch? That way, one of you might be on time."

Of course, we can't forget Ron. He was just as much Gideon and Fabian as Fred and George, but to a lesser degree.

He's brilliant and gets a lot of hate for always making Hermione cry (which im totally not ignoring)

Ron is an important part of the trio, even if the movies do kinda portray him as a replaceable, dickish, himbo, carrot top cunt, who purposely hurts Hermione.

ive always been confused as to why people ship edxling, it feels so random. nothing against it, it just feels like one of those ships with no basis in canon and is just people wanting to ship two dudes because its gay. also i noticed edxling shippers basically ignore winry and lan fan's existence. so i wanted to ask you, since you seem to really like the ship but also are knowledgeable on fma beyond just shipping, why exactly do people ship edxling and why is it more popular than lingxlanfan?

okk so i DO NAUT know if i'm really the BEST person to answer this cuz i'm rly into a specific niche of ling/ed and not much interested in them as a couple during canonverse (post-canon boys ofc, as i'm known for ^_^)!!!! but i'll like... try to answer why i THINK people like it (′︿‵｡)

○ PART 1. - HOW THEY INTERACT IN CANON

ed and ling have a (relatively) strong basis in canon! they actually often interact from the time they meet, getting more screen-time or time to be around each other in canon than some other characters we see associated with them. and i think the widest appeal most people get from them is that they're boys in the same rough situation around the same age so they can relate to each other, so just the main concept behind their interactions as characters?

i also think a big thing with the interest in them is interpretation. a lot of people kind of feed off of crumbs in canon and view them a certain way which wasn't originally intended but is nice (and entertaining!) to view in a romantic light lol

i personally know that ofc, my main interest with them as a PAIRING isn't in canon but more post-canon starting with ling as emperor and ed ambiguous where there's more interpretation for how they turn out, how they would interact with each other; since they're essentially a blank slate if i wanted to fiddle with a few things whereas with other pairings in fma i can't really do that with because their roles are definitely set and i have to jump over hoops unless i just want to make something not resembling the epilogue in that regard which, if i'm not very interested, makes things difficult for me to really care for a couple which is a big appeal for me imo for them (but i'll stop rambling about that because it's hyperspecific as a writer and getting to analyze the characters and tear them down). so most of why i care for them is really just my interpretation of them and that's why i can't really speak much for why other people are into the pairing

another part of it is tropes..... i think tropes are a BIG one for a lot of people :-) you've got a makeshift and universally accepted sun and moon dynamic with the canon yin and yang colour scheme, you have idiots/idiots, royalty/commoner (who defies the regular trope just by being an asshole and ling not really giving a shit about the royalty thing beyond the principal of him being born into it alone so it isn't tacky ya novel tropey), tall/small, foodie x foodie, battle couple, and just them being a generally normal couple beyond their lives being a gd trainwreck with their positions and shared traumas because the dudes are just kind of chilling out personality-wise with how they act towards each other. they're The Buds Of All Time In Canon If You're Into A More BROTP SItuation™.

there's opportunity for pretty much any genre with them as well in regards to the most simplest categories of angst and fluff because they're both dorks and, as is fma, have Loads Of Baggage and can butt heads if you so wanted to set that situation up :o) they're very flexible characters when it comes to a dynamic!

○ PART 2. - I MEAN YEAH THEY'RE GAY I GUESS

yeah they gay keep scrolling :o))) i don't really have much to say about this one beyond personal takes because i see a lot of people going "people are just shipping this because it's gay!" about literally any m/m or w/w pairing ever and like....... as a gay man i just.... like seeing characters be gay, i don't see issues with that unless it's people fetishizing my identity. i don't want to go too deep into this one because it's more just my personal feelings as a gay man when i hear this sort of thing whereas i usually don't care unless asked out of someone's morbid curiosity

it's one of those things where i think most of the fandom just likes seeing themselves represented and i think worrying about people ONLY liking them from them being a male/male ship isn't an issue at all that you need to really worry about tbf

again it's just one of those things where i think if a person's reasoning for it is "it's gay i like it" is because they identify with the identity they assign to the characters in some way, just like giving an interpretation, so i could care less really........... most of the appeal i'd feel is them looking at ed and ling both and going wow they're both boys and they can relate to each other and they've been through a lot together in the span of canon, and they're (maybe) my favourite characters! i wonder what they'd be like as a couple?

or they fall into the aforementioned trope thing, etc and i honestly don't think that's a big part of it it's just an "oh i like them" thing. it's like picking out barbies at the store like i couldn't really care less if that were the case and if that is a personal issue it's one that shouldn't really be an issue just in a "minding your own business" way

○ PART 3. - NOT CARING IS A WARCRIME

honestly in terms of ling/ed enjoyers "typically" not caring about winry and lan fan, i haven't seen that, like... much if at all but that might only be because i DO NOT interact with the edling enjoyers in this fandom outside of like two other people that aren't me, one of whose favourite characters jump between lan fan and winry when i actually like them a lot myself... because.... they're the girlies of all time

(also i suck at paying attention and i don't mean to it's just a Thing That I Do)

most people into them though that i've observed (at least recently which is kind of skewered since ling/ed content only happens every gd blue moon we are fighting for our gd lives out here it's usually only a few people actually consistently posting on social media beyond casual writers on ao3) usually like edwin and lingfan, put them in a polycule, stir until well mixed, or actually draw/write/like one or the other MORE than them because edling is one of those things where it's like most of us go "well cool! i'll do a thing for this and probably never again" which is COOL and amazing but it's mostly one of those things we look at collectively and go well theyre neat. anyways,

like i don't ONLY focus on ships or certain characters in fullmetal alchemist as a watching/reading experience while definitely having favourites and i usually don't pay attention to people who only do so that............... that might be my issue here.........! :o) give me the clown nose boys

also when it comes to 'ignoring' winry and lan fan i don't think there's much of a basis when it comes to ignoring them because some people might just not really care for them as characters and honestly that's their cup of tea, not much to really get curious or worried about; same with their respective ships

while i personally ADORE lingfan winfan and winpan and can talk about them for a while i don't really care for edwin much because i'm not into childhood friends to lovers and i don't much care for how they were written in canon. it's just a matter of preference really with anything, and on the topic of wondering why lingfan isn't as popular i simply think it's a matter of them being less popular characters and the reason they DO get as much content as they do at all is likely because they're implied to be canon in the same boat royai is

...because ed and roy are, ofc, the titular characters in the franchise :-)

edling/linged being more popular i feel is a case of "edward is the protag that most of the fanbase will cling to immediately therefore it's popular" and people attract to it because if into it they WILL usually want to headcanon him as bi or gay and have a ship catered to their interests to view him in that light

being cross-platform with twitter, ao3, and tumblr altogether i've seen more of people asking why people are into the pairing or saying people into the pairing are overbearing than literally any content or people actually talking abt the gd dudes because it's again.... it's.... it's literally just like six of us locked in this homosexual little room altogether, me included, speaking from experience because i have been Producing Content For Them Consistently For A Few Years Now! Most Of What You're Seeing Is Either Years Old Or Just Word Of Mouth, Goddammit

obviously i'm not gonna toot my own horn about being dramatic over being into a pairing and be like 'fullmetal alchemist fandom.... UNITE to create edling content!' because it isn't worth my time and i'm not THAT invested in them, especially not more than the series itself since it's far more intriguing and open for possibilities to me without romance at all, but like guys we r people just vibing we just think they're neat

○ PART 4. - CONCLUSION TO MY... THESIS

i actually have no idea how long this is or where i was going with this but i tried to address anything from the ask! yeah no i don't really care about debating these guys on the internet or anything about the fandom at all and i try to avoid it the best i can but this just seemed like a question so hopefully this sated ur curiosity anon :^) thank you for letting me rant about my blorbos and hopefully u don't think any part of this was meant to be condescending

obviously no one has to be into these guys but hopefully this helped u understand a bit from my experience :o)

TL;DR: i think people are into it mostly because of how they interact, wanting to project their own identities onto their favourite characters, tropes, and enjoying the character dynamics together! can't really talk about the lan fan and winry situation because i haven't noticed it and i don't think ling and lan fan being less popular is something to get worked up about, relatively

ACTUAL TL;DR: none of the points i've made are relevant to the ship in my personal opinion there is no reason for this post to even Exist. i just like them because i think they're cool. sometimes you don't need a reason u just like them. the pairing doesn't have to be interesting, can be Average or Mid™ just don't be a dick and don't be outwards about that sort of thing with your thoughts in that regard as is common courtesy

Gendered Canning

See my first strawberry jam attempt? Turns out, like the raspberry jam, it tastes far better than any jam I have ever had from the store in the last decade.

I ended up making some gender based observations this weekend. My goal was to can up some raspberry and strawberry jam this weekend, and yesterday I went ahead and bought a stupid amount of raspberries and strawberries to do it.

I am new at this, and wasn't sure what constituted 5 crushed cups of fruit, so this saw me in the check out line with six containers of strawberries and four of raspberries.

The cashier was a bit odd about it, and asked what I was doing with so much fruit, and I said I was canning.

I am a 51 year old, heavily tattooed man. I am also transgender, but she would not know that to look at me.

Instead she was completely bewildered that I was canning jam. She nosed around why, and I said becuase it tastes better than anything store bought, and you can't even buy some of the flavors.

Then she asked if I was doing it as a gift with someone, and I was nope. Just me, canning jam for the year for my wife and I.

I then stopped at a grocery store for sugar, and bought a single 10 pound bag. I was asked why I was buying so much sugar by the clerk and the bagger, and I said I was canning jam.

The bagger, a young man, was completely gobsmacked. He was like why? Did you pick a bunch of berries? I said it was too early in the season for that, but I was making a years worth this weekend.

Before I transitioned 11 years ago, I don't recall anyone caring at all what I bought for food, and being a weird quasi-foodie that does a lot of odd ball things from scratch? I have purchased some empirically odd food combinations in really large amounts before. Nobody has ever said a word.

Now that I am read as a man? It's like my very existence beyond buying beer and snacks, is read as odd, and worth further questioning.

It reminds me the first weekend of the pandemic. I was in the grocery store with my wife stocking up on things, and being the primary cooks I had the cart stocked. The lines were stupid, so I sent my wife with the cart to the line while I grabbed a loaf of bread and some beer.

A middle aged gal saw me walking back to the line juggling a loaf of bread and several IPA's, and just made eye contact and smirked at me. I knew instantly she thought we were in the middle of a national emergency, and this dumb dude was buying nothing more than bread and beer. She was laughing, and I am sure I presented a hilarious picture in the half panicked grocery store.

It's such a weird gendered construct that men can't cook or or take care of the home.

I find I also get questioned a lot more in fabric and craft stores. I still sew, and make clothing for my wife and I, and now I get questioned a lot in fabric stores. I think there is a social construct for the gay designer, so if I look competent they immediately shoot me into the expert category. It's like there is no middle ground in perception. I am a dumb man who is invading women's spaces or I am a gay expert. The truth is I am a confident middle of the road seamster, that is bi, and married to a woman.

Conversely, I am treated way better at Lowe's Hardware, and any of the other hardware stores I end up in. People just assume I can do the work I am asking about. They start from an assumption of competence first, then back up if I tell them I need more information.

This is in stark contrast from when I looked like a woman. I have literally had hardware store guys argue with me over basic information I was correct about, because they assumed anything that came out of my feminine mouth must be wrong.

I just find it interesting what people seem to expect is so gendered. Maybe we could just abolish useless gendering of activities, and I think we'd all be better off.

haha! Knew someone would notice it, lol.

Also, since I mostly deleted my OG post of Trazuil (I didn't like it so I wanted to remake it) I might as well dump all my info about xem right here on this ask. And heads up, there's mentions of violence and abuse up ahead in this post btw:

-to start off, Trazuil is a AMAB nonbinary person (he/him and xe/xem), he is also an arospec gay

-Xer autistic, borderline (like me), have PTSD, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, gender dysphoria, is a selective mute and also has ASPD

-He's a slasher (a killer who mutilates/kills people with knives, blades, chainsaws, etc; just wanting to save you the google search of the definition of a slasher)

-OG idea was that Trazuil was mostly going to be Nigerian; but I was also leaning that he would be Afro-Latine instead, so I went ahead and made him both afro-latine AND nigerian. He would be VERY fluent in both Spanish and Swahili.

-I was struggling a bit for this one, because I couldn't find a good VA that would fit Trazuil, so given that, my choice would have to be Joel Perez (aka, Valentino's VA from Hazbin Hotel). Of course, Trazuil wouldn't be acting like Valentino because there is a HUGE difference between the two. One is, of course, Valentino is an abusive rapist pimp while as Trazuil is a slasher with a dark past. Oh, and Trazuil would absolutely OBLITERATE Valentino when you put them in an room for an hour and half an hour in you'll be hearing Val's screams and his insides just PAINTED the entire room.

-Personality wise, he would be a mixed of Shadow the Hedgehog and Spawn from Todd McFarlane's comics. He would also be a bit of a foodie like Hannibal Lecter.

-Another difference would be between Val and Trazuil xemself would be that Val most likely has killed innocent people (cuz it was mentioned that Valentino in Episode 4 has killed past sex workers/employees of his that didn't do a good job before and/or during when Angel Dust arrived in Hell). Trazuil, on the other hand, is basically like Dexter Morgan; he mostly killed people that were murderers, abusers and rapists since he still has moral values and also because he was a victim himself. He only has killed a few innocent people only because they were pissing xem off.

-Xe are younger and somewhat shorter than Bezel; his age range would probably be mid-20's but he kinda acts like a bit of a grumpy old man lol

-Going back, he would often times keep the flesh of his victims for meals. Like being said before, he's a bit of a foodie like Hannibal, always finding creative ways to upgrade his meal. Sometimes, when the kill is slow he'll just hunt animal meat as a substitute.

-He wears mostly long-sleeved or any long clothing to cover his body because of the scars he has all over xer body. Xe's insecure the most about them since they were a reminder of the way he was abused--hence his gender + body dysphoria

-Mentioning, he was mostly abused by his family when he was young. Xe were raised by a group of fallen-angen-turned-powerful-demons that had a toxic tradition of viewing one's values. Hence, he was abused and almost left to die on Earth because his family exiled him and took away his powers. Afterwards, he was left to defend himself and mostly replied on sharp weapons.

-Trazuil mostly lives in the woods in his cabin, and he keeps all his weapons in a shed he built

-He knows color theory, astronomy, and vintage stuff really well; someone would ask "how do you make teal?" And he'll be like "Just use equal amounts of blue and green, that'll do." Along with having an knowledge for exo planets, black holes, etc.

-He's a big softie for dogs and other species in the canidae family

-Oh, and I should probably mention: whenever he's angry (not pissed) xe'll swear/mutter in either Spanish or Swahili as a way to censor himself. HOWEVER, I do imagine that he's a bit sadistic and unhinged when it comes to killing his victims. Like picture that one scene in the movie adaption to "The Shining" where Wendy is scared for her life while holding that bat to defend herself as Jack is walking up the stairs to her while saying "Wendy, dearest, love of my life...I'm not gonna hurt you...I'm just gonna bash your brains in" in the most intimidating way. Imagine that in the woods, but Trazuil is holding an axe and he's chasing his future victim.
