How are trans men real men, and how are trans women real women?
Tumblr media
before i answer i'd like to mention that i have a degree in biology, so i know what i'm talking about.
sex and gender are two different things. biological sex is not as cut-and-dry as many people think. sex is determined by both genotypic (chromosomes) and phenotypic (genitalia) expressions. most people with XX chromosomes have internal and external female genitalia, and most people with XY chromosomes have internal and external male genitalia. but there is not an insignificant number of people who don't fall into either camp. it's estimated that about 1% of the population is intersex, but we don't have an exact number because so many intersex conditions are purely genotypic. many people aren't even aware that they're intersex. there are XX people with internal and external female genitalia who have a genetic mutation that causes them to produce higher levels of male hormones, there are XX people with female genitalia who have the SRY gene (typically only found on the Y chromosome) who have small testes, there are X people with internal and external female genitalia who are missing a chromosome and have limited development during puberty, there are XY people with penises and testes who have a genetic mutation that results in them also having a uterus and ovaries, there are XY people who have a genetic mutation that causes low dihydrotestosterone which can result in either male internal and external genitalia or female external and male internal genitalia, there are XXY people who have an extra chromosome and present along a spectrum of male and female genitalia. here's a diagram that shows just how complicated biological sex really is:
Tumblr media
(to read the article this is from and zoom in on the diagram click here).
and that's just sex! we haven't even touched on gender yet! gender is a combination of personal identity, expression, and cultural norms. many things you would consider to be exclusively feminine or masculine traits are unique to western (or just anglican) culture. in many cultures hair length has nothing to do with gender. men all over the world wear what some would consider dresses. in ancient and modern tribal societies all around the globe, child care is everyone's duty, not just women's. everyone hunts, not just men. men are expected to dress extravagantly and paint their faces to impress women. cooking, cleaning, and other domestic chores are done communally. in hunter-gatherer societies, both ancient and modern, gendered division of labor depends on latitude-- the closer to the equator, the more there is to forage, so everyone gathers, not just women. the idea that there are inherent biological traits (such as tendency for violence or care giving) that each gender has comes straight from white supremacy and their racist belief that the more civilized the society, the more pronounced eurocentric gender roles are. this is why women of color, especially black women, have their womanhood questioned and scrutinized, and why they're often characterized as brutish, violent, and mannish. it's why black female athletes are far more likely to be singled out for transphobic accusations and "gender confirmation" tests. and, by the way, there's no such thing as a male brain or female brain.
so to answer your question: trans men are real men and trans women are real women because sex =/= gender, and gender is not as rigid or well-defined as you think. neither is biological sex, for that matter. and before someone says "but 1% is so small, why should we count them?" australia holds only 0.33% of the world's population, but they still matter.

I'm gonna try to start making the stuff for pride month soon! I like to start as early as possible, so I can guarantee a post every day.
Note/Edit: I am not an artist, I have no clue how the weird art edits would turn out XD
I'm going to make some of everything, I'm just basing the amount of everything on the votes :) every 3% will mean at least one post of that type.

They're really pulling some niche figures for these new Personas, huh?
Tumblr media
Prosymna is one of three naiad daughters of the Greek river god Asterion. Along with her sisters (Acraea and Euboea), she served as a wet-nurse for Hera. The name Prosymna means "celebrate in song," which explains her harp-like design.
(Prosymna is also a genus of snake!)
Tumblr media
Erytheia is one of the three (or four, or seven) Hesperides, nymphs who presided over evening and sunsets. The name Erytheia means "the red one." There doesn't seem to be much mythos surrounding Erytheia specifically, but her name was assigned to a small island northwest of Gilbraltar. (Nowadays it's part of Spain! The city of Cadíz can be found there.)
Preceded by Leucothea, Erytheia is one of the two (possibly 3?) P5X Persona to be rendered as a masculine entity despite being based off a distinctly feminine mythological figure. Not sure why they're doing that, but hey, the designs are great!
Tumblr media
Syke is a bit of an oddball. While it would be easy to presume it's meant to represent Psyche, the Greek goddess of the soul…Psyche has already appeared as Metis' Persona back in P3 FES, so it's possible this one is a different entity. However, something worth noting: like the other Greek myth Persona in this post, Psyche came in a set of three, having been the youngest of three sisters.
Of what I've been able to dig up, Syke (or Syca) was also the name of a town in ancient Cilicia, a region in southern Anatolia. Another name for Syke was Setos, possibly based off the primordial sea goddess Ceto. Ceto is considered one of the oldest-known deities in Greek myth, and was mother to a myriad of monsters, such as the Graiae and Gorgon sisters.

Meng Po is the Chinese goddess of forgetfulness, tasked with ensuring that souls headed for reincarnation are reborn with no memories. To accomplish this, she serves a memory-wiping soup to souls crossing the Naihe Bridge out of Diyu, a subterranean maze that serves as an equivalent to hell in Chinese mythology.
This lore explains both the bowl and lantern in this Persona's design. The bowl represents the soup, obviously enough, while the lantern can be interpreted as symbolic of "guiding the dead."
Tumblr media
Cleodora was one of the three Thriae, prophetic nymphs who lived in the Corycian Cave of Mt. Parnassus. Though the Thriae are often considered to be the "bee-maidens" (women bearing human heads/torsos and bee wings/lower bodies) described in the Homeric Hymn to Hermes, it's possible they're different trios; the Thriae predicted the future through throwing stones (pessomancy/mantic pebbles), while the bee-maidens predicted the future through casting lots (cleromancy).
The only info I can find on Cleodora as separate from the Thriae states that she was the mother of Parnassos, who invented a way to predict the future based on birds (ornithomancy).

Oooooh will you tell us your rules / guidelines for responsible moodboarding???
oh ok it's something like:
provide image sources (the only times i don't do this are if the images are screenshots from a movie, or by an artist who died hundreds of years ago, or something like that. i'm still trying to think of a way to cite those.)
make sure the images are creative commons or otherwise free to use
if the images contain people, make sure that the people consented to being photographed
avoid culturally appropriative imagery. i'm not sure exactly how to do this one because i think if you avoid everything that doesn't belong to your own culture, then the images you share will feel limited, status quo-affirming, and maybe even close-minded. but there are certain objects and symbols to avoid putting in moodboards because they're too significant to reduce to an aesthetic
no ai-generated images. this one is getting harder and harder, sometimes i can't tell anymore. but it's still something i want to avoid using
these are the personal rules i set for myself. other people's rules might vary a bit for whatever reason and that's completely fine. but i think these are the general guidelines that are good to follow

Opinion Post!
The annoying thing about using a vessel is having to deal with all the things they deal with. Hunger, sleep deprivation, waiting for your fur to dry because your hairdryer went missing again. I still don’t know where it is.
But in a way, when I deal with these annoyances, I almost forget that I’m a demon. I don’t think about the murder and possession, and I just feel… normal. Guilt-free.
Is it just me? Arch thinks it’s weird.

Not aesthetically pleasing, but this is my reading corner. I love it because it’s so cozy and has everything I need. Not everything can be aesthetically pleasing especially if you don’t have the funds or place for it.
I love it and that’s all that matters✌🏼
What does your reading corner look like?
