So Dan after going through rehab is cleared by clockwork, the observents and Danny to be released with regular checkups
Dan after having an identity crisis (he's part future Danny part future Vlad, he's got to have some identity issues ) and dosen't want to keep the name Dan so he chooses the name Willis
Things happen, Danny gets an engendering degree and is successful in his field
Jazz is a talented psychiatrist
Sam is a activist
And tucker is a freelance programmer
The rogues have been less of a problem after they agreed to stay in the zone, and if they want to fight they can call danny
They've all grown successful
But Dan/Willis can't accept that this doesn't feel right, everything feels wrong and he can't handle that all the people around him are moving forward
This leads to him lashing out and fights
After a particularly big fight Dan/Willis decide to leave, informing Danny and click work that he just needed to leave and find himself
He agreed to let an observant come check on him every year but didn't want contact with Danny
Danny agreed but gave Dan/Willis his number in case he ever wanted to contact him again
.
.
.
Time skip a couple years, Dan/Willis became a degenerate in Gotham, has a kid and is serving prison time
One day red hood got severely hurt and needed a bit more medical treatment and some DNA test were required where it was discovered that he had lazerous water in him before he died
Now he has to meet his father face to face and get answers
Note: I am finally posting this (something that has been in my drafts for actual months) because @pinkeoni hurt my feelings talking about Will and Alan Turing). So...you can inavertently thank Robin for this LMAO
I don’t delve much into Stranger Things analysis anymore, but having just watched The Imitation Game, the biopic they made about Alan Turning in 2014—I’m thinking that maybe Will doing his presentation on the man might have an delightful (secondary) parallel to this film’s exploration of him, given Will’s burgeoning queerness + ongoing relationship with normalcy.
Throughout the film, the ongoing theme of "differences bringing about greatness/change" permeates every character, but Turing especially—something that the conversation he has with a character named Joan near the end of the film showcases well:
In this conversation, Joan is trying to encourage Turing to come out of depression and rely on her, given he is struggling immensely with physical effects of chemical castration—which he obviously resents, but feels is better than giving up the life he has and being “entirely alone” because of his sexuality / desires (sound familiar)?
This ongoing exploration of queerness as tied to greatness and/or otherness is something that is very often explored in Stranger Things as well, primarily with Will—to the point where Will has nearly the exact conversation Alan has with Joan with Jonathan in S2:
—in addition to us exploring the relationship between a lack of normalcy, queerness and even nerdiness through/by other characters like Robin, Mike & Lucas.
Now (as we all know), Will’s homosexuality has been forever and inherently linked to his otherness/lack of normalcy—whether with how he was bullied in S1-S2, his struggle to be open with his feelings for Mike in S4, or the million literal / metaphorical things in between, Will has always been encouraged not to conform, but still struggles to self-actualize enough to embrace himself fully…which most of us expect for him come S5.
Basically: the underlying theme of this film for Turning (much like the underlying themes at the heart of ST) revolves around how most people strive for normalcy, despite normalcy being undesirable if you expect to do anything great/interesting. While Turing was a homosexual man, he was also one who struggled greatly with fitting in overall—much like Will, which I think perfectly reflects how the Duffers have set up their S5 resolution + solving Will’s ongoing internal struggle with his romantic feelings for Mike + ongoing dissonance with normalcy.
(sidebar: there are articles exploring the idea of "embracing difference" in this movie that parallel Will's "Being Different." See: Embracing Difference - The Imitation Game)
Both TIG!Turing and Will exist in on the fringes on their respective worlds due to their differences and homosexuality—just as both of them are both most inspired by their (romantic) love for their male best friends....to the point that those relationships define their contributions to the story: Turing with the machine that helped the Allied powers break the Nazi Enigma code, and Will in ways I'm sure we'll be talking about in 2025.
TL;DR: While Will still has another season to sort through what his love for his best friend means for both his rejection of normalcy and his greatness, it's fairly apparent that (much like Turing) it is the embracing of both difference and homosexuality that leads to greatness—no matter how the world feels about that overall.
(We love it when the gays learn life lessons (and when they win)).
I love mike walters so much. Saying you'd rather cut your arm off while living a normal life? Classic hyperbole (if oddly specific). Saying you'd rather cut your arm off (again) after having already had to cut your arm off? Wild, but coping is weird. Saying you'd rather cut your arm off (again) after having already been called on your bluff???
Something that for me is so heartbreaking and upsetting is the fact that Buck's entire storyline somehow gets turned into Buddie.
A storyline that is about a character discovering himself, finally having that puzzle piece slot in place, exploring his sexuality, all of that gets turned into Buddie discourse.
We are being show a beautiful storyline with an incredible actor that is so realistic to a lot of people's queer experience and yet there are a bunch of fans who don't even care about that because their favourite ship didn't become canon and how it should have been this character.
We have these wonderful moments, these genuine positive reactions to a coming out, a healthy start of a queer relationship, an overall entire team that is dedicated to showing a happy, a joyful queer storyline but people refuse to see it because they are so focused on one thing.
There is so much to be said about how grateful queer people like me are to finally see a bisexual character in a storyline that is purely about positivity yet a good portion of the fandom uses this and twists it into something negative just because what, the focus is on this journey right now?
Without wanting to assume anything, this feels exactly like the typical queer experience that so many people have to go through when straight people make coming out about them instead of, you know, the actual person who is coming out?
"But Buck should have kissed Eddie."
"Here is how Buck's coming out is actually about Buddie. "
"Here is how Buck being terrified about coming out is actually about his hidden feelings for Eddie."
Do you know how fucking sick that is? To see this heartbreaking storyline, this honest reality that every queer person goes through no matter how supportive people might seem, be turned into some tool for some relationship? To see everything be complelty used in agenda like Buck's storyline is some tool to use?
To see everything that is so fundamentally about Buck being turned into something where he is somehow not an active participant anywhere just because you want to make it about something else? To take a person's story and make it about someone else entirely.
What the fandom is doing is exactly what so many dismissive straight people do.
It's making a queer experience, a queer person's feelings all about themselves.
So confused where fandom/fic writers got this interpretation that Miles does stupid shit that doesn’t make sense or barely works out in the end or puts his friends in unnecessary danger all the time. Like in both movies the others simply underestimate him and don’t understand what Miles is doing cause he thinks like Miles, not like your everyday Spiderman. He uses his Venom Strike to throw Kingpin in the ITSV movie and literally saves Gwen and Peter because they went into battle less than ready. Then had the entire plan to lure the Spiders in ATSV, yet I keep seeing him written like he doesn’t think or gets his friends in trouble even when he understands the danger. Most of the time his different thinking has helped or led people to fix personal issues.
The first movie alone pretty much sets in stone that the exact opposite of what he wants is others to get hurt by his actions, inactions or the actions of others and trying to live up to that belief and the expectations it carries. Across the Spider-verse hammers it home with how he constantly tries to save people because that’s what he should do, rather than listen to some theory that is clearly not absolute at best and outright wrong at worst. Every fic has him being the one to cause issues and not fix them when his planning and actions literally helped save Gayatri and her father. (c’mon we know the glitching was the spot)
Yeah, I get making him stubborn or strong willed cause he doesn’t listen all the time but usually it’s for a good and valid reason, if he listened every time he was told not to, guess how many of our beloved characters would be dead?
so I decided that nendou a snake person thing and akechi is an ELF because elves are MISCHIEVOUS and SHORT and TINY ASSHOLES. and also kinda sweet. and awesome
