This is just for fun, and is in no way to be taken seriously I was just having a little fun with giving them Norwegian names.

Ballister Boldheart - Balder Dristhug/Djervhug/Dristhjarta/Djervsinn (I honestly don't know which title he would have)

Ambrosius Goldenloin - Ambros Gullkvist/Hoftegull (I recently learnt the -loin part means the crotch or the male genetalia down there and so I tried to play with it)

Nimona - Nimona (Just Nimona, it is too awesome to change)

The Director - Direktøren (Boringgg)

Kwispy Dwagon - (K)naske-djagen (I had to)

Diego the Squire - Våpenberaren Diego

Hi!! I’m learning Norwegian right now and I was wondering if you have any tips about the language as a native? Maybe some slang or good books you could recommend! :D

I'd def recommend having a look at NRK's website for free shows and films if you have a VPN. As for book recommendations I'd suggest the Phenomena series (I loved them as a kid), or Alvetegnet with Gravbøygen Våkner as an absolute favourite of mine with great folklore inspirations, and Sigurd Drakedreperen by Torill T. Hauger.

Some slang(?) for you:

Skjer? - What's up? lit. trans.: Happening?

Serr? - Seriously? shortening of "seriøst"

Hils - not really slang, but means to say hi to someone else for someone. Like "Oh, you're seeing them later? Hils", and when they see the person they'll say "Oh btw, I hilse from that person".

Lættis - Funny.

Klein - Awkward. Older meaning: ill/sick.

Legg - ID. short for Legitimasjon.

Those are the most common ones I can think of, but there's plenty more in different dialects; sju (skjønner du - you see) and læll (allikevel - regardless) from my own.

so one thing about language is that not everything is a one-to-one translation.

one thing that's different between Norwegian and English is the term "gender nonconforming" or "gnc" for short. In Norway the term is more exactly "gender-overstepping" or "gender-exceeding", (kjønnsoverskridende). Idk if I can trans' it perfectly (pun intended), but it is more about doing more and stepping out of the box than not doing something.

I just started learning Norwegian on duolingo and during one question, I got an option to choose the name Nilsen, which is just too similar to Nilcent that I couldn’t not notice it. And then, during the same lesson I had a question that had an option to pick Erik, and I was just like, what are you trying to do to me duo??? This is too much.

Norway, a country of 5 million people, has 2 official written spellings/dialects, Bokmål & Nynorsk. Failed attempts to merge them over time mean that a spectrum between them has formed, with many variant forms being used. Norway's largest newspaper for example, uses a pre-1938 version of Bokmål.

i also like music, both listening to it and making it. i mainly play the guitar and the bass but also the piano sometimes. and the drums very sometimes. my taste in music is very diverse but i like it that way. my favourite bands are stray kids, muse and sabaton.

Doing my Russian Duolingo and it's like "my girl" (Russian) -> "my girlfriend" (english). And it's interesting, I think English does the same. If you said that in Norwegian that would not be the meaning, it would be "my girl" (Norwegian) -> "my daughter" (English). The Norwegian equivalent would be "my lady/woman" (no: "dame") (Norwegian) -> "my girlfriend " (English).

I need to know how to correctly pronounce a word, but it is evidently a very uncommon word: vivendel (a word for honeysuckle). I need what syllable is stressed, too.
