Laulun kuvaamat onnettomat kohtalot ovat Nestori Miikkulaisen erehdyksen (hamartia) seuraamuksia, ja Miikkulainen suuntaa hautaan tajuamattaan erhettään. Tässä esseessä...

Okei vähän tiiviimmin ja vähemmän muodollisesti: Nestorin mielitietyn lähtö esitetään laulussa neutraalina faktana tai "houkutellun" morsiamen hairahduksena:

Osasyy eroon on kuitenkin Miikkulaisen itsepäisyys asuttaa torppaa luodollaan. Miikkulaisen halu asua saaressaan on ilmeisessä ristiriidassa naisten asuinpaikkatoiveiden suhteen, mutta vain naisten mieliteot kyseenalaistetaan.

Edelleen, norppa esitetään Miikkulaisen kohtalontoverina:

"Myös sen kumppanin kohtalo vei"

Laulu ei mainitse norppakannan kutistumisen juurisyitä, kyseessä on vain "kohtalo". Miikkulainen siis samaistuu norppaan kohtalontoverina, vaikka on itse syypää tämän yksinäisyyteen – ja omaansa. Fatalistinen puhe kohtalosta häivyttää hänen vastuunsa.

Tästä kaikesta voisi tehdä laiskan tuomitsevan tulkinnan, "Miikkulainen on incel" jne., mutta silloin laulun todellinen traagisuus jäisi huomaamatta.

Miikkulainen samaistuu tuhoamaansa luontoon sillä hän tuhoaa myös itsensä, koska ei osaa kuvitella itseään muuten. Kylään muuttaminen tappaisi kalastaja-miikkulaisen vielä varmemmin kuin yksinäisyys. Kummassakin tapauksessa saaren torppa jää tyhjilleen. Parempi siis jättää edes paha haju mökkiinsä.

Yhteenvetona siis: Vanhoja poikia viiksekkäitä kertoo traagisen tarinan miehestä, joka on tarrautunut identiteettiinsä kalastajatorpan asukkina. Hän ei suostu näkemään omia valintojaan, vaan syyttää kohtaloa, joka ilmeisestikin on pois hänen hallinnastaan. Hän samaistuu rinnallaan häviävään luontoon, vaikka aiheuttaa myös luontokadon itse: Nestori Miikkulainen sahaa omaa oksaansa ja uskottelee puun olevan hänen ystävänsä.

Mielestäni tämä vain syventää laulun koskettavuutta: laulu ei kerro vain naisettomuudesta kuten pintatasolla, vaan syvemmin ja yleismaailmallisemmin itsensä eristämisestä ja keinoista joilla kiellämme edes tekevämme niin.

I can try to do some headcanons if you want?

another one of those couples that hardly even look at each other during world meetings because they don’t want people to ask about their relationship and bombard them with nosy questions

but actually they are quite affectionate with each other in public if there’s not dozens of people around who know them

subtile touches and little gestures are their love language. hand holding across the table in a small cafe or the classic hand on the others thigh or knee or ass or crotch if it’s safe to go unnoticed..

they have this very special way of turning each other on in public through dirty talk except they wrap all their intentions into completely mundane sentences and it’s all about implications, pronunciation, speech patterns and the accompanying brush of hands, fingertips wandering over the others palm, a quick wink and a blown kiss.

It’s a game between the two of them to find out who reaches his breaking point first and almost jumps the other before realising that they’re not at home and fucking on the table in the middle of a cafe is not a viable option.

It’s not about public sex for them but about the humiliation. Norway having to sit still and hide a raging boner while Japan keeps talking in that voice on the train ride home? Japan’s knees being close to giving in when Norway grinds against him on the subway during rush hour?

They would never do this during a world meeting, but around strangers.. there’s something about the knowledge of what they are doing, what they are going to do with all these unknowing people around.

There’s no strict top/bottom and dom/sub roles between Norway and Japan, they both enjoy whatever the other has to give or to take.

Happy Birthday to my good girls Hina (left) and Norpan (right). These two are turning four years old today and they deserve all the good things! 

Hina is a rainbow budgie, and I’ve had her since she was about 6 weeks old. She’s such a character and has the biggest personality, despite being a regular budgie and therefore one of the smallest in my flock. 

Norpan came to me when she was about one year old. She was severely overweight and could barely fly. Since then, she has made an incredible transformation. She’s now really fit, flies amazingly and is just such a happy girl. She’s half-English budgie, and just the fluffiest little girl.

I managed to take pictures of my new budgies today, and while I’ve already shared them on their Instagram, I thought I’d share them here too!

There’s actually quite a bit of a size difference between them, but the first picture really doesn’t show that that well. Norpan, who’s the greenish-blue in the back, is actually half English budgie (and a bit overweight), so Pim looks tiny in comparison. But hey, here’s my babies, they’re so cute.
