Posted @withregram • @streickercenter In 2021, Dr. Dara Horn published “People Love Dead Jews: Reports from a Haunted Present.” Two years later, people have felt like they were seeing the title of her book, unfortunately, coming to life before their eyes.
When the award-winning author stopped by the #StreickerCenter to speak on our “Jewish Challenges, Jewish Solutions in the Wake of the Unthinkable” panel, we asked her what she would like to say to people who didn’t fully believe her warnings before October 7th. Here’s what she had to say about the impact of her book in today’s world.
A common miconseption about feminism is that it’s the same as white feminism. White feminism is something that only includes straight, white, cis, females. Feminism is something that includes everybody because everybody is how we are going to get our freedom. LGBTQ people can be feminists, POC can be feminists, trans people can be feminists, women, men, and non binary people can be feminists. Thank you.
Yesterday our town woke up to a horrible site. Our beloved “No Place For Hate Mural” had been defaced. (Swipe for its current state) It’s crushing to see a treasure to this town treated this way. It is Building A Better Boyertown’s vision to ensure that Boyertown is a welcoming, vibrant, and engaging community for people from all walks of life. We have started a fundraising campaign to save our beloved mural. @pahwf and @berksfoundation have generously offered to provide a dollar for dollar match of up to $2500 each for a total of $5000! Please considering donating and show everyone that Boyertown is NO PLACE FOR HATE! Link for fundraiser is in our profile. Before commenting, please know we are all aware of Boyertown’s history, hence the mural and the desire to rise above. We only want to cultivate a community with love in their hearts. This takes time and we know the community isn’t perfect. Repairing this mural is the first steps in fostering change. Please know, hateful or unhelpful comments will be removed. #boyertown #boyertownpa #pennsylvania #berkscountypa #noplaceforhate #mural #fundraiser #defaced #destroyed #publicart (at Boyertown, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUu1dfQr-fL/?utm_medium=tumblr
#NoPlaceForHate: Call to oppose racist rally in Stockton-on-Tees
Teesside People's Assembly is urging all who oppose racism and Islamophobia to support an anti-fascist protest in Stockton-on-Tees on Saturday 28 July.
Known fascist activists, previously involved with the EDL and similar groups but now part of the far-right 'For Britain' party led by Anne-Marie Waters, plan to hold a march and rally in Stockton under the banners of 'Gays Against Sharia UK' and 'Standing for Britain'.
The 'No Place for Hate' action will protest against the far-right's presence in the town.
Teesside PA activist Barbara Campbell commented: "Gays Against Sharia and Standing for Britain are fronts set up by far-right groups intent on inciting hostility towards the local Muslim community, which they seek to scapegoat. We are organising this counter-protest to oppose the fascists' message of intolerance and to make it clear that Stockton is no place for hate."
The campaigners are asking those opposed to racism and fascism to assemble at 1.30 pm on Saturday near the fountain in Stockton town centre, where Dovecot Street meets the High Street. There they will distribute leaflets that promote a positive message of unity and equality.
Teesside PA's action is being supported by Stand Up To Racism - North East and Unite the union: Teesside Local Government branch.
Local Labour parties in Stockton North, Stockton South, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough have also declared their solidarity with the 'No Place for Hate' demonstration.
ENDS.

Notes for editors
Teesside People's Assembly is part of a nationwide anti-austerity movement fighting to defend public services and the welfare state against cuts and privatisation.
It has also played an active role in supporting anti-fascist and anti-racist actions in the North East region as far-right groups have sought to exploit the social problems caused by austerity policies.
How much hatred does a person have, to have so that he has to hand it out against someone completely strange to him⁉️ Incidentally, Hate , also makes ugly
