isn’t it awful? how i met you, once, how you laughed at something i said so offhandedly, and i showed you a half-written poem pieced together in my notes app, and then one day you let me follow you home. i kept you tucked between the margins of my messy class notes and you walked me to the train station at the end of the day. how i kept all your texts even when i stopped wanting to reply to them anymore, and then my phone crashed and the next day i woke up from a dream where you had your back turned to me the entire time. isn’t it awful. how i knew you, once, how i know you, still, and how i’ll know you always. even if just a moment captured in time. and you’ll have known me, too.

The stages of Vampiric Thirst

I realised I write Clarisse being thirsty quite a bit here but I’ve never really written about how thirst affects vampires,so here we go, the stages of being Thirsty af.

01 - Vampire subject seems normal, no loss of strength or speed, though they will notice a slight tingling in their throat and healing may be slightly slower. 

02 - Tingling of the throat becomes an insistent itch. Healing is sluggish and large wounds struggle to heal. Vampire will be distracted by the sight or smell of blood but able to hold themselves in check. Slightly slower and weaker than normal. 

03 - Tingles across the whole body, a light headache starts. Minor wounds heal slowly, major wounds not at all.Sight or smell of blood is painful to abstain from, causing a spike in their headache. Sense of smell and hearing increase, vision and touch become dulled. Sunlight becomes uncomfortable. Significantly slower and weaker than normal. 

04 - Full blown itching across the entire body, headache becomes almost unbearable, control will be lost at the sight or smell of blood, kicking them straight to 05. Body begins to shut down non-essential processes, the subject losing their ability to sleep or keep food or non blood liquids down.  Essentially a moving corpse and it really shows as their skin takes on a grayish tinge. They shake constantly and struggle to think. They become sluggish and struggle with remembering simple things. About as strong as a regular human of their muscle mass would be. 

05 - Complete loss of control, known as a “feral” state. Will lunge for anything with a beating pulse and once latched on to a target it’s a struggle for them to stop gulping down blood until the victim is dead. If a vampire is trapped without blood and so goes feral and stays that way for longer than a few weeks, their mind shall deteriorate until there is no way back to the person they used to be. Most agree in this case the best option is to mercy kill them. However, if the time spent feral is short, they are able to return. (Note: Feral verse is slightly different to this, but if you’d like to write with a full blown permanently feral Clarisse,,, hmu).

 Another interesting tidbit about a vampire’s thirst is that there are rarely permanent effects from being thirsty for along time (unless one goes perma-feral) unless they are starved for the first week or so after being turned.A newborn vampire who has been starved will never gain the regular vampiric strength and speed, though they may gain qualities that appear through aging, such as the venom and ability to manipulate the will of others with their voice.
