Journal entry #001: Mission 51 (success)

26/11/3023

Hello world! This is Starling writing, cause, y’know, it’s my journal, after all. I know it’s pretty old-school to write stuff in a journal, but I think it’s cool, so I’ve been doing it since I was a little kid.

Anywho, if anyone back at Earth sees this (I really don’t think they will, but, it’s worth a shot), Mission 51 is a total success! We’ve made it to Enceladus, holder of many names--Saturn’s second largest moon, the icy moon, so on and so on. That documentary from 2008 was right, it can definitely support life, from what I can see. Oh, and guess what? None of us are dead! We’re only just a tad injured. The pilot injured his abdomen real bad, and I twisted my arm. Luckily, it wasn’t my dominant one (Despite that, Suha’s telling me not to write, but I just can’t help myself. I mean, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!). It’s a lot, but hey, it’s better than being dead.

What’s even better is that, we can breathe! There’s oxygen on this planet- because, well, there’s plants. Really dangerous ones. There’s this one plant I’d seen, and it could paralyse a human being head-to-toe in just a few minutes, seconds, even! Any species that must have evolved to live in such an environment, if there are any (I’m hoping there are), must be really tough. I don’t know if I should wish we run into any, or wish we don’t, but I think I’d gladly take a bit of a beating if only to discover a whole new species on a whole new planet.

God, my twenty-first great-grandpa must be proud.

There’s a whole lot of plants here, and water, too. There was this river- I didn’t see anything resembling fish at all in there, which is a bit odd, since everything on Earth came to be from the sea. I thought it’d be similar to our planet, with the trees and plants and whatnot (although, they’re pretty different, too), but I guess I was wrong?

We’re currently stopping atop this hill. Like Earth, it’s real grassy, and this is confusing me now--it looked so similar to what Earth used to be, I thought we had gone back in time. But there’s differences, tons of differences. Like, for example, I don’t see or hear a critter in sight.

Obviously, Earth is slowly losing her birds and squirrels, too. And I really don’t expect birds or squirrels here, but I mean I just think there should be some sort of life-form here. Oxygen, water, nutrients- all the things that a being needs to survive, and yet, no beings at all. None that I can see, at least. Maybe they’re timid.

We’re off to travel around some more now. Still really unsure about this place, but hey, it looks like it has way more trees than Earth does right about now! That has to be a good start, right? Anyways, I have high hopes about this mission. I pray I’m right about that. I pray I’m right about this all--Lord, answer my prayers.

I wonder if Satoru has really thought about it yet, like what if he's there when she kills Yuzuki's sickness and just has this moment of enlightment of how everyone could take advantage of her and her technique? I think he would want to give her alternatives to it so he can delay everyone from finding out her technique and giving her a few more years until she could handle the target it paints?

Shiki's abilities come with certain implications -in many ways, it's a good thing that it's shrouded in so much mystery at the moment. There will be a reveal eventually, later down the line, and I look forward to writing about it. :D
