Are Captain Rudolph Rudy Ransom and Commander Jack Ransom related?

Like maybe Jack Ransom primarily joined Starfleet to try and find his father who was lost commanding the Equinox. Depending on his age, Jack probably would’ve joined around the time of the Dominion War. Lower Decks seems to establish that Starfleet isn’t the most attractive career option around this time, so it seems conceivable he would join up to follow in his long-lost father’s footsteps rather than a sense of duty to the Federation. (See that post about Una being the Starfleet recruitment poster girl, hearkening back to a golden age of exploration in the wake of the war. Una represents be a strategic revamp since wartime recruitment numbers probably dipped quite a bit. Who wants to get sent to the front lines to fight a war in a post scarcity society?)

If Voyager got back to the Alpha Quadrant in 2378 and Jack is a commander on the Cerritos in the early 2380s, he wouldn’t have known about what happened to the Equinox when he joined Starfleet. By the time he’s posted on the Cerritos, he would know the fate of the Equinox and exactly what his father had done. I highly doubt Janeway would hide Rudy’s level of crime in her logs, especially after dressing down Ransom (and letting him live out her self-sacrificing tendencies) and demoting the remaining crew she brought in from the Equinox. When Voyager returns (or Starfleet gets Voyager’s logs and eventually releases relevant info) Jack taking a post on a California-class ship makes sense. After learning the truth, he wouldn’t need to be a great explorer seeing what it did to his father. In fact, his character seems to try to overcompensate for the ruthlessness that characterizes Captain Rudy.

Hello lovely anon - thank you so much for your kind words, I'm so happy you've been enjoying Terrible People.

I'm sorry if this is disappointing, but I don't have any more fics planned - you might spot one or two shorter works from me this year, but as it stands, I don't have any more long WIPs in me until at least 2024.

According to ao3, after the final chapter of Terrible People has posted, I've written 210k words this year! That's a lot, and I've really felt it, too. I'm tired. Happy, but tired. It takes a lot of headspace to come up with ideas, and even moreso to put those ideas into words. My little brain needs some rest before I can even think about doing either of those things. Writing is my hobby, and I want it to be joyful.

That said, if anyone ever has any prompts for me, or things they'd like to see me write, I'm always interested to know!

Hey, @staff. I gotta say, it really sucks to not have the double-tap zoom feature anymore. Like, it REALLY sucks. It's actually one of my favorite features, one that I genuinely talked to friends about the app having. It's so important for easily accessible zooming, and the fact that you could zoom in TWICE was just great. Also, the pinch zooming decided to not work on one image, and the app kept trying to get me to switch images or scroll down to a new post altogether(???), which was pretty frustrating.

So, yeah, do a rollback on that one.

Edit: Am I going insane? On a single image post, the double-tap zoom still works as before, but it didn't work on the multi-image post I was viewing before I made this post. So weird.

Edit 2: Now, I'm tapping to view some art, and the app is opening entirely different art—each time. Every single time it's a different art from someone I am not following, let alone the art I'm trying to view. What the fuck, @staff? It's like I'm getting gaslit to look through my For You page. It stopped doing it, which further makes me feel like I'm going insane, but the double-tap zoom disappeared again, so that was unfortunately real.
