the great irony of early one piece antagonists believing zoro was the actual captain and using luffy as a puppet ... oda really threw us a bone and curb-stomped it right in our faces. yes, zoro could be a captain in his own right. yes, zoro could match luffy in strength. yes, zoro knows this perfectly well. and you know what? he chose luffy two years ago, and he will continue to choose luffy again and again. roronoa zoro, the pirate hunter, who followed a wannabe pirate with a nonexistent crew on a whim because luffy brought him his swords and made a half-assed attempt at a bargain. zoro, who made a vow to never lose again on both his and luffy's honor. zoro, who told luffy he'd make him commit harakiri if he got in the way of zoro's goal, only to turn around and be willing to sacrifice his dream if it means that luffy reaches his. zoro, who stood in place and took luffy's pain and told a warlord to take his head instead of luffy's, who got down on his knees before his supposed rival and begged mihawk to mentor him so that he could return strong enough to protect his captain. zoro, who has conqueror's haki- a natural born leader- but chooses to stay at the right hand of a man he has deemed greater than himself.
and the thing that luffy fears most? being alone. being rejected. being left behind. and what should have been his foil- the pirate hunter to his pirate king, the nonbeliever to his divine, the king of hell to his sun god- instead becomes his first and most devout follower; the one who demands to follow him to hell and back. oughhhggg i'm sick to my stomach

I'm using a metal band name generator for some inspiration and some of these names I can't
Sonic Pentagram
Heavy Snake
Final Ashes
Demonic Demons
Mutilated Dust
Rusted Force
Immortal Dust
Mega Terminator
Evil Dust
Sacred Goblin
Holy Jesus
Demonic Dispair (yes, with i)
Pulsing Flesh (tbh that sounds like a real death metal band alright)
Then there are some really valid ones like
Atomic Horsemen
Burning Goddess
Suicide Cross
Graveyard Riot
Beyond Enemy
Red Funeral
Morbid Inquisition
Blasphemous Flesh (again, an excellent death metal name)
I love how you can just point out genres from these names like "yeah, that's definitely black metal, that's death metal, that's power and that is a clear folk metal name, and that could work for a doom band".

Thinking about how Leo says he uses his jokes to cope and y’know, thinking harder on it I think it may very well be because of what else uses one-liners and puns and that type of humor.
Specifically, 80’s action movies and campy sci-fi. Even more specifically, the protagonists of these.
So I can imagine why, exactly, Leo leans toward this brand of humor. It’s directly linked to things he loves! But even more than that is why I think it’s used as a coping mechanism.
In these genres, these quips tend to be said by the winner - or, if not a winner, then someone who will stay alive. So there’s a confidence behind them, an assurance, almost, that even if things go wrong, things aren’t ever too serious. There’s no bad endings here! It’s all good fun, even if the stakes seem high.
Leo canonically has been known to steer his brothers away from the more brutal villains and toward more fun, lighthearted activities and not-so-dangerous criminals. So for Leo, these jokes definitely make things less heavy, make the situations they find themselves in less intense.
It’s kinda not just coping, but also can be seen as a form of escapism. A safety blanket. A way for Leo to defuse the tension of knowing just how dangerous their lives are and replace that with a levity which implies that things will be okay.
Unfortunately, levity alone does not alter reality.

dont get me wrong i LOVE jealous obi wan but what i prefer is absulately PATHETIC jealous obi wan. like he sees quinlan flirt w cody and brush up against him every opportunity he gets just to annoy obi wan and he's fuming so much he trips and falls flat on his face. or when he sees ventress throw herself into codys lap and is about yell but smacks into a wall. or even better some random local on the planet they're staying offers to show cody around and he's too busy starting at every move they make and he full on headbutts a tree branch and cody has to call the medic to come aid him. obi wan is v smug that cody forgot his guide existed the moment he saw obi wan. VERY smug.

me, mumbling to myself: i recognize the desire to call decked out a roguelike or a roguelite but it's not really either of those things; the dungeon is a fixed map, which on its own kind of disqualifies it from being either, since a key element of the roguelike is randomized dungeons. additionally, though, it can't be a roguelike, because you can keep progress between runs and don't lose it all whenever you lose; calling it 'roguelite' because you lose everything when you lose but get to keep some permanent progress (the cards) would be more accurate, except, of course, for the fact the dungeon has a completely fixed layout that you can learn (and also that you keep your deck; even in a roguelite normally the progression you keep is more ephemeral). really, it's more of an old-school dungeon crawler that uses modern deck-building game sensibilities as its progression system as opposed to an rpg system. this isn't a knock against it--i LOVE grindy dungeon-crawlers ask me at some point how many hours i've put into etrian odyssey--but it's also fundamentally like, not a roguelike. comparisons to slay the spire (actually a rougelike) are fine, it has a similar deckbuilding concept and that's the deckbuilding game a lot of gamers are familiar with, but why do people keep calling it a roguelike, guys please you'll give people the wrong idea it's not a roguelike,

I maintain that the animated Harley Quinn show has the best understanding of the modern Joker. He's Batman's mortal enemy. His other half, the color to Batman's gloom. Joker literally PROPOSES to Batman at one point.
Sure, he's terrible and sadistic and he absolutely hurts and kills untold numbers of people but like. Not because he likes killing, but because everything else is part of their story, and this is how the story goes. He doesn't want to KILL people, he wants to fight Batman, and in this universe Batman wants to be the good guy.
As soon as Batman is gone, he's done. Over and out. Almost capable of a normal life (as much as you can in Gotham). Finds himself a girlfriend and kids in the suburb. Willing to do his ex a favor every now and again.
Anyways I'm just obsessed with a show where it's so obvious that the Joker isn't the antithesis to good, he's just the antithesis to Batman. They really said the Joker only exists because Batman wants him to, and then actually backed it up. Insanity.

as someone with a guilty pleasure for isekai and time regression stories I am just thinking of a story where Husk dies and wakes up during the height of his Overlord days with the memories of everything that would happen and has just. From the outside perspective become a completely different person overnight and changed his ways (read: the morals he gained during his afterlife he applies to how he, uh... Overlords?). A Husk whose last soul deal is to get Angel Dust away from Valentino (and offers Angel his freedom, which Angel possibly decides not to take for the time being bc it'd be safer for him to be under contract than not, with Valentino as mad as he is), and who avoids making bets/deals with Alastor like the plague. Starts building alliances with other Overlords (maybe even including Alastor, albeit reluctantly) to steadily create a support network/team (which is also useful when going up against the Vees once they're established), and just bides his time until Charlie and Vaggie open their hotel- which, at the time of his death, he had come to love and support the cause of.
And Husk is ready to be the hotel's sponsor, immediately. Alastor gets there and finds Husk beat him to it (seeing as Husk knows about it before the interview even airs), but unlike Alastor with his ulterior motives, Husk actually wants to help.
After all, he died for the hotel, and its people, once upon a time

I think it’s inherently a little ridiculous to insist that certain topics are too uncomfortable for horror, which is famously the Genre That Makes You Uncomfortable. I also think there exists for each individual a list of concepts that make them uncomfortable in a thought-provoking and even disquietingly reflective way as well as a list of concepts that make them uncomfortable in a skin-crawling throat-itching sick-to-stomach i-can’t-handle-this way. so to this end I think it is a little bit more than a little ridiculous to insist on one universal list of acceptable and unacceptable categories of Personal Uncomfort. and this is why I will always be a staunch advocate for and (as best I can) diligent provider of content warnings

Literally everything about the Fishing Rod Incident is just peak sibling energy. Pearl doing something dangerous and joking about it to the others. Grian watching her and calling her dumb but instead of stopping her he just goes "oh but what if we made it even better". The two of them laughing it off because even though it's very possible that Pearl could die she hasn't so far so "iT mUsT bE sAfE". And as soon as they get in trouble Grian immediately turns on Pearl like, "oh it was all her fault, she coaxed me into it you should be mad at her not me", thinking that Joel and Etho aren't that mad at them and will most likely just burn her house down or kill her dog. But then they kill her and Grian's like "OH NO DAD AND DAD ARE ACTUALLY MAD ABORT ABORT ABORT RUN AWAY RUN FAR FAR AWAY".
Also Scott going "guys this is a bad idea, guys here are all the ways this could end horribly, guys if someone gets hurt you're gonna bring me down with you, guys cut it out or I'll tell on you" and then as soon as it all goes wrong he's just, "I TOLD YOU SO NOW DAD AND DAD ARE GONNA PUNISH ME TOO EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING THIS IS WHY I DON'T SIT WITH YOU GUYS AT LUNCH".
