I really think Mal Oretsev is the worst endgame romantic interest in existence.

Really.

There are many canonical ships I disagree with, but Malina ? This is the worst of all for me.

Alina had so much potential, and it was all wasted on a stupid tracker ; When she could have had the Darkling or Nikolai !

As much as I will always wonder what could be wrong in Alina's head to prefer her childhood friend to these two, and also what could have been going on in Leigh Bardugo's head when she wrote the character of Mal and the Malina relationship.

Like... she didn't notice that the character and the relationship were catastrophic ? Is that the height of romance for her ?

It sucks...

okay, call me stupid, but my mind just never computed the fact that people will watch or read a piece of media and only ship the canon relationships. like, WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!??! crackships are EVERYTHING to me and it's sooo funny having a debate with someone and they're like, “well, i don't ship them because they aren't a real relationship” and it just like, yeah, that's the point!!!! i live and breathe for crackships, what do you mean you don't ship people based of one interaction????

nikolai and alina’s relationship is so important to me. not even in a romantic way, because personally i don’t ship them (i’m a zoyalai stan first and foremost), but their friendship just means so much to me. and the way that nikolai does love alina, even falls in love with her, but never pressures her to return his affections. understands that love, romantic love, is not something she is in need of. and i think paddy and jessie really brought their relationship to life. it was one of my favourite parts of the season.

Or will his skin have shed and be replaced with one the generals of the army wear? “I'm a fox, sunshine, not a snake.” He'd probably say and laugh if he knew her thoughts Yet the foxes they had seen a year ago were still in area. The cubs her and Nikolai had helped were now grown and hunting. Nikolai was gone, yet the foxes lingered. This is their home. Just like the Grand Palace is Nikolai's. Alina wondered what that would be like, to have a home, a place to go back to.

Rereading Ruin and Rising and wow Nikolai and Alina have insane chemistry. I feel like I wrote something similar about siege and storm but their banter, conversations, humour etc... It's all so good. I hope the show goes into that a bit more.

Spoiler for Shadow and Bone season 2...

So... Alina killed the Darkling. She didn't hold his hand and didn't whisper his name. She was standing there watching him die... Nice.

My tears flowed as he swore he had found peace for a while, and closed his eyes thinking of the first time Alina kissed him ! And don't even get me started on the "My little Saint" he utters just before taking his last breath...

Oh and she finally chose to become queen of Ravka... ?!

And in the end six of crows grisha drug (jurda parem) is introduced.

Nikolaï and his scars are also present. Which implies that we will definitely see the Darkling again if there is a sequel. (We know King of Scars)

And a grisha tries to kill everyone at the coronation after take the jurda parem, and Alina uses the fucking Darkling power to cut her in half and... very clearly she likes doing that. She had a kind of almost pleasurable grin ?!

I forgot to specify that suddenly Alina keeps her powers finally. A good thing at least.

But... I'm very angry.

They took away the good Darkling death scene from me which was a nice Darklina scene. And obviously we are not rid of her and badly for the future.

They will continue to link all grisha and six of crows characters. Except that I don't care to see Alina and company again ! Was it so fucking hard to wrap up grisha and move on to six of crows ?!

On the other hand, the little scene between Alina and Nikolaï at the end... The chemistry is there. But I know she'll end up with Mal later for the futures seasons... 😒

Besides, damn how well did they shove Malina down our throats this season ! From episode 1 damn ?!

Also, Zoya ogling Nikolai was fun. (These two were literally the only thing I have love from the King of Scars crap duology)

Also, I feel that Alina may be turning dark... Because, the look she had after cutting this woman grisha in half... 😶

And a part of me wants to see this so badly... Give me a corrupted Alina ! Give me Alina becoming a monster to protect people ! (As the Darkling said)

I swear his little smile at the end is so pleasant. She liked using the cut. She liked cutting this woman in half. She liked to feel the power surging through her...

Obviously, they will try to adapt King of Scars at the same time as the sequel with Six of crows... Knowing that Nikolai's duology was full of inconsistencies, I don't know how they will adapt it, especially with the change of Alina keeping her powers, being queen, and with the power of the Darkling as a bonus...
