A smol treat....
Since I'm deep in the process of writing up my lengthy interviews with the developer and creator of David's 2001 unaired pilot, Only Human, for a long-form post (and waiting to get some of my other questions answered) - in the interim, I figured I'd pass along an adorable little tidbit I found. Enjoy!

So I found what may be some of the earliest media mentions of Pepe - these newspaper articles from 1996 reviewing episodes of Muppets Tonight:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how nobody even knew what kind of creature Pepe was (the show doesn't say he's a prawn until season 2), so they just call him things like "a hilarious, pinheaded French character" and a "bizarre little character and his elephant friend."
By the time Muppets from Space came out, though, he became "Pepe the Giant Prawn, who's actually a small guy":

(The first two articles are from The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa, CA, June 23, 1996 and July 14, 1996. The last is from the Philadelphia Daily News, July 14, 1999.)

In the age when Savile Row was synonymous with men’s style, an innovative Italian, Gaetano Savini, put his country on the map, forever reinventing menswear. From the first men’s fashion show at Florence’s Palazzo Pitti in 1952 to his craftsmanship influences still evident in today’s styles, Savini was truly a creator on the cutting edge. His legacy as the visionary and designer extraordinaire behind the Brioni luxury brand is celebrated in this spectacular illustrated edition. Highlighting examples of Savini’s innovative cuts, bold colors, and the psychedelic patterns that led the Peacock Revolution of the 1960s, The Man Who Was Brioni includes sketches and newspaper articles illustrating how the man became the legend. Replete with letters, photographs, and personal anecdotes from Savini’s daughter and Brioni heir, this volume details the brand’s far-reaching influence, and how it came to be known as “the Dior of menswear.”

Been going through the series lately and like I said before, I like to pause to see what the animators put into the wording/backgrounds. ^_^ These news articles are either just from the 70s or are spread throughout a couple decades.
1. Mentions Baron von Steamer attacking Torii Gate Bridge.
2. Shows the Shimamoto statue at SFAI (I think mentioning the rivalry week statue grab) as well as SFIT hiring the youngest dean of students ever (possibly talking about Granville if the article’s not from the 70s, either that or she’s older than we thought o_o).
3. Mentions Krei’s dad winning the “Mayor for a Day” bid that we see Fred do in Season 3.
4. Wow. Truly shocking that cupcakes are just smaller cakes. XD
5&6. Looks like Orso Knox purchased the Noodle Burger Factory that we’ve seen the team visit a couple times when it was just starting out. Don’t know if he still owns it, but it’s just very interesting to see him mentioned in something not monster related; it might also have helped keep him wealthy beyond his trust fund. O_O

“As well as his talent and beauty, River was famous for seizing any opportunity to discuss vegetarianism and the environment with often bemused entertainment reporters. [Samantha Mathis] told me that, while River loved the work and the opportunities to talk about his beliefs, he hated the “industry bullshit”, and his relationship with success was complicated.” — The Guardian [Nov, 2019]

“Forgiving who you are, for what you stand to gain. Just know that if you hide, it doesn’t go away.”
Secrets are an essential part of life. Not having a secret is impossible. It is said that people with the most perfect, pristine and visible life, have the most horrifying secrets to hide. Secrets are a way to lock away whatever that is troubling you or causing you something other than happiness, in a lockbox, seal it in the back of your brain, and never look at it again. But, that doesn't happen. Maybe in a movie. Secrets have always, since the beginning of time, found a way to come out. The way they come out is - well, they’re secrets, they won’t come out in a glorified-happy-yay-joyous way. But do remember, secrets are pleasant.
I have always found secrets to be fascinating. I am no philosopher, but the thrill of keeping a secret, or having a secret, maybe sneakingly sharing it, is exhilarating. It is an adrenaline rush in itself. I thought about how there are two types of secrets: the kind you want to keep in, and the kind you don't dare to let out. It is an honour to keep a secret, and a betrayal to let one out.
But, how does one, say, develop a secret? Theoretically, Oxford Dictionary defines ‘secret’ as something known about by only a few people; kept hidden from others. Practically, it is something you don’t want other people to know about. Maybe it’s embarrassing, or uninteresting. So you might think. Secrets are known to be interesting, no matter how big or small, how boring or juicy they might be.
The idea that a person is hiding something and it is something they are scared, emphasis on the word scared, to share, is exciting. Least of all, it is stem-winding.
Beware, readers, harbouring tempting secrets, they are bound to come out. There are no secrets that time does not reveal.
I won’t be telling anyone, and neither should you.

New Post has been published on https://bloornews.com/blog-toronto/misunderstanding-caused-bc-company-to-say-health-canada-licensed-it-to-sell-cocaine-trudeau-says/
‘Misunderstanding’ Caused BC Company to Say Health Canada Licensed It to Sell Cocaine, Trudeau Says
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it was a “misunderstanding” that caused a British Columbia-based company to say Health Canada granted it permission to produce, sell, and distribute cocaine.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaks to the media in Ottawa on Feb. 12, 2023. (Patrick Doyle/The Canadian Press)
Trudeau told reporters in Winnipeg on March 3 that he was “as surprised” as B.C. Premier David Eby when he heard that the company Adastra Holdings Ltd., which produces marijuana for adult use and medical sales out of its headquarters in Langley, B.C., announced on Feb. 22 that it was permitted by Health Canada to “legally possess, produce, sell and distribute” cocaine.
The company said in a news release that it had been granted a Health Canada amendment to its controlled substance dealer’s licence on Feb. 17.
Eby first responded to the company’s statement on March 2, saying he was “astonished” that Health Canada would grant the amendment and that his government would be contacting Health Canada for answers.
“I was as surprised as the premier of British Columbia was to see that company was talking about selling cocaine on the open market or commercializing it,” Trudeau said on March 3.
“There are limited and very restricted permissions for certain pharmaceutical companies to use that substance for research purposes and for very specific narrowly prescribed medical purposes, but it is not a permission to sell it commercially or provide it on an open market.”
The prime minister said his government is actively addressing the issue.
“We are working very quickly with this company to correct their misunderstanding that their press release has caused,” he said, adding that decriminalizing the commercial sale of cocaine “is not something that this government is looking at furthering.”
Decriminalization B.C. decriminalized possession of up to 2.5 grams of certain hard drugs, including cocaine, beginning on Jan. 31 following Health Canada’s approval of three-year experimental decriminalization exemption program back in May 2022.
Federal Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett has said that B.C.’s decriminalization plan will reduce “the stigma, the fear, and shame that keep people who use drugs silent about their use, or using alone.”
In 2022, B.C. had an average of over six people dying from drug overdoses every day, and over 11,000 people in the province have died from illicit drug overdoses since the provincial government declared a public health emergency in 2016.
Federal Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre has criticized the decriminalization policy, saying the solution to the issue of addiction is “more treatment and recovery,” rather than “more poison.”
Both Trudeau and Justice Minister David Lametti have said Ottawa has no plans for a national drug decriminalization policy.
The Canadian Press and Marnie Cathcart contributed to this report.

The New York Times

Dwarf inventions might result in countless casualties
A dwarf artificer who wishes to remain anonymous has created a new invention with potential military uses that could result in thousands of casualties and leads to the creation of an effective hell on Earth. The device in question is called a land ship. The original intent behind its creation was to act as a cargo ship but functioning over vast amounts of land instead of Ocean. The device which is essentially a Square metal box on train wheels linked together with rubber known as a caterpillar track designed with the intention that it would carry large amounts of goods and people across the American west abeling them to travel from the East to as far west as California without the need for railroads. Although several railroad companies and age coach companies are looking into it the likelihood of its adoption is rare however. certain militant abolitionist groups most prominently dwarf lead abolition group known as The Hammers of freedom have expressed various interest in this and journalists working for the New York Times have discovered that people within the faction intends to weaponize it turning it into a walking fortress. They plan to use this both as part of their underground railroad network if violence are upset but also to use it as an above ground combat vehicle should a civil war break out. How's the slavery question grows ever more present on the Minds of Americans the question is will this erupt into Nationwide fighting like has been seen in Kansas. or will it ultimately fizzle out with compromise or something else.

Stats still in the fantasy wild west I've just decided to use a different format. Also sorry if the lack of punctuation is confusing. If you like this kind of format then let me know and I'll probably write some more in there I'm also planning to do maybe like a series of short form content like on tiktok for YouTube shorts set in this world so let me know if that's something you'll be interested in because I honestly don't know if I'm going to do it. Also to people who are following my account sorry I haven't been posting in a while I just haven't really had the energy. I am still working on the fantasy World West but I just haven't had the energy to post it or do anything on here in a while and honestly I'm considering getting off Tumblr I will still be doing this project and sharing my art and stuff but it'll mostly be on Instagram or short form content or something like that.
