Those blissfully peaceful months we spend in the womb before being born could be where our language learning starts, according to a new study that offers fresh insights into the ease with which newborns are able to pick up listening and speaking skills. A team of researchers, led by experts at the University of Padua in Italy, observed specific changes in brain patterns in newborns when the babies were exposed to speech – suggesting that their brains are already attuned to their mother's language, and to the basic rhythms of speech. "These results provide the most compelling evidence to date that language experience already shapes the functional organization of the infant brain, even before birth," write the researchers in their published paper. The study setup involved 33 newborns, aged between one to five days, with French-speaking mothers. The babies were played audio of the Goldilocks and the Three Bears story in French, in English, and in Spanish.

cute spring themed swing set!
Japan April 8, 2023 release. Likely next year for US/UKComes with a newborn baby sweetpea/milk rabbit in a pink dress. One swing is a pink butterfly shape a good size for toddlers and the other is a bumble bee for newborns! The tulip on the side can move up and down and looks like it fits newborns as well. There is a face cut out to pretend to be a snowman. there’s a ladder and walkway on top to the big yellow slide. I like the weather themes for these sets, as they all feature a sun, clouds, umbrellas or rainbows.

Shout out to Alma Madrigal, who managed to flee from raiders when she was only hours post partum. Like it takes weeks for women to recover but she managed to help lead their town and carry her newborns, then watched her husband die. That day must have been a nightmare.

Lambing season is coming!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Farmers county-wide are saying there's going to be a down tick in the lamb population this season but, they are not overly concerned. As of now, ewes are being scanned and marked.
We all are excited to bring these beautiful babies into the world. It's a miracle to behold. Sheep farmers are the best in understanding the process and are quick to diagnose any problems . Sometimes ewes can be negligent and cold towards their new offspring and push them from feeding. A sheep farmer has to be diligent particularly if he's got multiple ewes birthing at once. An extra pair of hands is always the ticket.
We won't see much of James since he and his partners will be 'on the road'. We do hope though that all the lambikins will make it into the world and our farmers will have a prosperous 2023.
Huzzah!

Drawing WIPs and other updates.
I have been super quiet here due to feeling a bit overwhelmed by social media in general. However, I've been quietly plugging along writing AiP and Birthday Wishes both of which should be updates soon as well as AiP art and art for friends.
My incredible sister, @mrsmungus wrote When One Door Opens for me and it's safe to say I'm obsessed to the point I need to get some artwork done for it. Not sure when I'll be able to get to coloring them in but I'm really happy and want to share them.

The date is wrong. Lol Should be 1999.🙈

As soon as this next chapter of AiP is published I'll be returning to the tag games and try to catch up with what I've missed, too.

Contrary to current understanding, the brains of human newborns aren't significantly less developed compared to other primate species, but appear so because so much brain development happens after birth, finds a new study led by University College London researchers. The study, published in Nature Ecology & Evolution, found that humans are born with brains at a development level that's typical for similar primate species, but the human brains grow so much larger and more complex than other species after birth, it gives the false impression that human newborns are underdeveloped, or "altricial." Lead author Dr. Aida Gomez-Robles (UCL Anthropology) said, "This new work changes the overall understanding around the evolution of human brain development. Humans seem so much more helpless when they're young compared to other primates not because their brains are comparatively underdeveloped but because they still have much further to go." One way that scientists compare the brain development of different species is by measuring the size of their brains as newborns to their brain size as adults. Humans are born with a relatively smaller percentage of their adult brain size, compared to other primates, making it seem they're born less developed. However, this new research shows that this measure is misleading as other measurements of human brain development show humans are largely in line with other species of primates such as chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orangutans.
