US Naval aviator Elliot McKay See awaits medical checkup & laboratory procedures during NASA’s selection process of the “Next Nine” or the “New Nine” group of astronauts.
Elliot See was selected in NASA group 2, announced September 17 1962 and was assigned to the Gemini IX mission. However, on February 28, 1966, See and fellow astronaut Charles Bassett died as their T-38 jet crashed during bad weather approach on Lambert Field airport in St Louis Missouri.
See and Bassett’s names are inscribed on the Fallen Astronaut memorial plaque which was left on the Moon by the Apollo 15 Moonwalkers. They’re buried at Arlington national cemetery.
