Summary: Neville Longbottom accidentally starts a raunchy rumor about the popular girl in his potions class. And rumors fly. 1.0k words.
Warnings: ‘snogging’ help im not british and it shows, rumors, allusions to sex/promiscuous acts, teasing, pining, strangers/friends to lovers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Somehow Neville started a rumor about you. And somehow, through the unbelievably slippery walls of Hogwarts, the rumor made its way to you in less than a week.
It was an accident, honestly. And people kept blowing it way out of proportion. You were popular, more popular than he could ever hope to be, and when he said it, he had already accepted that nothing would ever really happen between the two of you. But this awful rumor made him sound boorish and borderline rabid when really it was supposed to be a harmless confession between friends.
"I heard Neville Longbottom wants to shag you out by the Quidditch pitch."
Even from a few tables down, he could see the mortification fall over your face like a black veil. Your friend giggled as she pulled away from whispering in your ear, and you clapped a hand over your mouth. He had to look away when your eyes flicked to meet his. Your friends spend the rest of lunch hour teasing you and snickering about him while you seem to shrink in on yourself.
Neville manages to avoid you where he can in the halls: taking the longer route, hiding in large groups. But none of it is very fruitful when you've got a very similar class schedule. In fact, despite his efforts, he spends nearly every passing period just behind you and sometimes even right beside you. Apparently, he's also got a clear shot of you from where he sits in the classes you share and you're even table mates in potions. Of course, he knew all of this before that nasty rumor was spread, he's just become hyperaware of it since then.
After making it through the week without too much tension, he finds himself scanning the pages of his Water Plants textbook in the Great Hall and not retaining any of the information. And as he props his chin in his hand, he notices you settle into the seat directly across from him, flashing him a quick smile before opening your own book.
He sits up, glancing around the room to find Snape preoccupied with a group of raucous students from Slytherin.
A small, crumpled piece of parchment rolls its way to your side of the table, stopping just before it topples over the edge. You set your book in your lap and look over your shoulder before unraveling the torn paper.
"I'm assuming you've heard the news by now."
A smile creeps onto your face as you flatten out the slip of paper and write your own message on the backside. You slide it across the table and just barely catch his eye.
"Here and there."
But he knows you mean just about every five seconds because this cursed rumor has been inescapable for as long as its existed. You slide the cover of the Hogwarts Gazette over as well. It's entitled, "Things Heat Up Between Popular Witch and Nerdy Wizard" just above a picture of the two of you smiling at each other in class with a few smaller headlines like, "The Rumors are True!" and "What's Next for the Unlikely Couple?"
He blinks. Who's reading this rubbish? Scratch that, who's writing this rubbish and how hard would it be to mame them?
"I'm sorry about that, it was supposed to be an inside joke. Honestly, I would never say something that awful in the first place. And especially not about you."
You give him a sympathetic smile and crumple the page and his note into a ball before sending back a new slip.
"I know."
He half-smiles before attempting to read again. But you toss him another scrap of paper.
"So what did you say then?"
You giggle when he flushes a bright pink before squinting at you and scribbling across the page.
"Something or other about wanting to snog a certain pretty girl. It was never meant to go past first base, honestly. Pure intentions!"
You shove the used paper in your pocket and glance over your shoulder with a mischievous look before delicately folding another piece and setting it in the center of his textbook. He opens it. But he doesn't get the chance to read it before it's snatched out of his grasp by a pale hand.
"Mr Longbottom," Snape drawls, "would you care to read this aloud since you two have insisted on interrupting your fellow students' focus?"
You hide your giggles behind your hand and Neville glares at you while Snape ushers him into the aisle.
He looks down the note and groans.
"How about those Quidditch Pitch seats?"
...
"Very funny," Neville grumbles while you hold his shoulder to steady yourself from convulsing with laughter.
"Your face! You should have seen your face!" You tease, tears nearly streaming down your face when you clutch the sleeve of his sweater.
"You set me up," he says, trying not to smile when you purse your lips.
"You started a rumor about me!"
"On accident."
You cross your arms over your chest and tilt your head to the side. "Then yes. I set you up. On accident. Walk me to Trelawney's?"
He rolls his eyes and offers his arm for you to loop yours through. You walk beside each other in silence nearly half the way, dodging confused looks and bothersome jeers from your friends.
"So," you mumble, looking at him with a cocked brow, "you really think I'm pretty?"
Neville shrugs. "And snoggable, I suppose."
He looks down at you and thinks he's never acted so cool around someone he likes so much. He thinks you're more than pretty and he wants to be able to tell you, but as you round the corner, the open classroom leers at you like a slippery snake. He spares you one last look and you peer up at him like a little dove. He goes pink.
You stop in the doorway and beckon him closer. And you think the nearly contemptuous smile on his face is new and ill-fitting but he's handsome nonetheless. You hold his chin and press a sweet kiss to his cheek before ducking into the classroom.
"See you in potions, Neville."

I can’t believe I agreed to another blind date. Tiffany owes me a lifetime of Cauldron Cakes if this doesn’t work out. The last time I went to one of these, she set me up with Justin Finch of all people and all he did was talk about himself. I just drank Butterbeer until he become barely. The date finally ended about two, agonizing hours later. As soon as we got back in the castle, we went our separate ways and I have not talked to him since.
Now, I’m sitting in Madam Puddifoot’s, in a corner, ten minutes early, trying to guess who my mystery date is. Tiff knows pretty much everyone at Hogwarts so it could be anybody really, but she only dates tools so I doubt it’ll be anyone good.
Five minutes go by before I hear the bell above the front door ring. It’s Neville. He looks a bit nervous. This is honestly the last place I thought I would see him. It’s not a very crowded place, so it’s good for an introverted person like him, but it’s a bit.. girly for him. But since he’s here, I can’t help but admire him. He’s gotten taller since we first got to university. He towers over a good amount of people at school. Even some of the professors.
His eyes wander around the room as if he’s looking for someone. Considering the only single person in here is me, I’m guessing that I’m his date. I get up from the table and walk over to him. His height is definitely intimidating up close, but his shyness makes it less intimidating.
“Hi Neville,” I say as gently as possible. I guess it works since I can visibly see him relax.
“Hi y/n,” He says not quite at a normal tone, but not a whisper either.
“I guess I’m your date,” A small smile wipes on my face. He nods his head, and we walk to where I was sat.
“I wasn’t sure what you’d like so I ordered an herbal tea. That alright?” I ask as we sit down. He nods his head again and I nod in acknowledgement.
It’s quiet for a bit before Madam Puddifoot comes back with our tea.
“Anything else for you dearies?” I look over at him to see if he wants anything.
“Ginger Newts? Please?” She warmly smiles at him and toddles to the back. The quietness takes over again. I reach a hand over and hold his.
“You don’t have to be nervous Nev. It’s just me.” His eyes soften and he lets out an exhale.
“Y-You’re actually the prettiest girl in our grade.” My smile can’t help but widen at getting a full sentence out of him.
“Only in our grade? Damn, looks like I gotta aim for prettiest in the school.” He smiles at that, and we drink our tea.
The conversation goes smoothly after that. He loosened up. Even started telling some jokes. I laughed so hard that people started looking over in our corner. We would just shush each other and continue laughing. As we finished the tea and Ginger Newts, we decided to go walk around outside. The snow hasn’t hit us quite yet, so the weather is bearable. I learned that he loves Herbology. He has almost every type of plant at his house. He learned that I had a crush on him from our 1st to our 3rd year. The time went by fast. Too fast.
We barely make curfew as we stumble in. Our laughing turns into hushed tones, but smiles stay upon our faces.
“Do you want to come to my room? I think Harry and Ron said something about going to Hagrid’s and Dean and Seamus snuck off somewhe-“
“Are you trying to get me into your bed Neville?” My tone is teasing, but his face still turns red.
“No! No! I just thought-“
“You’re okay Neville. Let’s go. I’ve always been curious as to what boy’s dorm rooms look like.” I take his hand and lead him to Gryffindor tower. The walk isn’t long. That’s a lie, it’s very long. Especially with all the steps, but being with him made it go by faster. We continued talking, kind of loudly, while the painting looked at us with disdain.
There aren’t many people in the common room. A few stragglers. Dean and Seamus are there, but they’re so wrapped up in each other that they don’t even notice Neville and I walking upstairs. He opens the door and sure enough we’re the only ones there. I walk all the way in and take a look around. It looks a bit different than the girls dorms. It also smells a bit different than the girls dorm. I can tell the one in the middle is Harry’s. Seems fitting as he’s “the chosen one”. Whatever that means. I look back and see Neville standing next to a bed.
“I’m assuming this one is yours?”
He nods.
“Wanna sit?”
He nods again. I walk over and sit down while he’s unmoving.
“Nev, I thought we got over the shyness?” I pat the spot next to me and wait for him to sit down. Once he does, I hold his hands and look at him.
“Have you ever been with a girl Neville?” He shakes his head no. I lift a hand to his cheek and look into his eyes.
“Do you want to?” He doesn’t say anything. Almost like he’s frozen.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to do anything, but if you do, I need a verbal answer.”
“I,” he clears his throat, “I do.” I smile and lean in closer to him. My nose lightly bumps his before I peck his lips. I lean back to assess how he’s feeling. His eyes are still close, and his lips are slightly puckered, stuck in this kiss. I chuckle and lean back in. I reconnect our lips and at that moment swear that I will study every day as long as I get kiss Neville for the rest of my life. He says he’s never been with a girl but the way his lips move against mine tell me differently.
My legs straddle his lap, and my hands move down to the side of his neck. I can tell he’s hesitant to do anything else, so I help him by wrapping his arms around my waist. His arms tighten around me, bringing up closer. I move a bit to settle on his lap and feel a slight bulge meet my clothed core. Our lips momentarily part, but not by much. He groans against my lips and it’s one of the most beautiful sounds to ever reach my ears.
I kiss his cheek, his jaw, his neck. He shudders underneath me which motivates me more. I remove myself from his lap and stand up. My top is first to go. His eyes are darkened as they stare at my figure. I raise my blouse slowly above my head. Only left in my lilac lace bra, I slowly unbuckle the belt to my jeans. I move them down my thighs and they fall down to my feet, revealing the matching panties.
“You gonna leave me half-naked by myself?” I tease. He gets up and takes his clothes off in record time. I try not to laugh so I don’t ruin the moment, but the way he almost trips on his trousers has me smiling to myself.
I take my place back on his lap and roll my hips against his crotch. My lips reconnect to his neck, and I kiss around until I find what I’m looking for.
“Fuck me,” I hear escape his lips.
Found it.
I suck on it while continuing to roll my hips. His noises become whimpers which goes straight down to my pussy.
“Can we- fuck. Can we try something?” I nod my head yes while slowing down my motions. His hands take a hold of my hips and bring me to a complete stop. I whimper at the loss of friction. My eyes move with the motion of his hands. He pulls his dick from his briefs and moves my panties to the side. He runs a finger through my folds and collects my slick, groaning at the feeling. He takes his finger and rubs it over his tip. It’s my turn to groan. I think I know what his idea was.
I wait until he moves his finger to place my pussy right on his shaft. He closes his eyes and I take the chance to place my lips on his. His arms take their rightful place back around my waist and I continue rocking my hips. His tip brushes up against my clit and I can’t help but to moan into his mouth. I rock a bit faster, and I feel him throbbing underneath me. I pull back reluctantly to catch a breath and his lips chase after mine. I’m embarrassed to admit how much that one simple thing turned me on. One more hip roll and my orgasm unexpectedly washes over me. I shudder and collapse into his figure but don’t stop. The overstimulation has me moaning in his ear. His hips start to roll up and meet mine. His soft moaning turns becoming louder, mixing with mine. His hold tightens and then his hips shudder to a stop. The sound he makes, makes me want to go a second round.
He loosens his hold and I look down in between us. His cum is still coming out in spurts. The sight alone should be in a porno. I take my index finger and swipe a bit of cum. My eyes close as the tanginess hits my tongue. The sound of the doorknob makes us turn our heads in sync. I reach over for my wand and close his curtains around us.
“Who’s been fucking in here? Damn!” Dean exclaims from the doorway. I hide my face in Neville’s neck as we silently laugh.

Good evening,
Could I request a Neville Longbottom x reader where she has a nightmare, so she goes to the common room to calm down, but she runs into Neville there (also had a nightmare), and they comfort each other.
(That was the longest, most incoherent sentence I've ever written. Holy cow.)
Have a lovely night,
-V

warnings: mentions of panic and fear, nightmare
a/n: this was so cute and i loved writing it thank you so much for requesting!
you were drowning, at least that’s what it felt like when you woke up gasping for air in the middle of the night. your throat closed up and your palms sweating as you grasped at anything for you to calm yourself down. you hadn’t had a nightmare in months however now they seemed to be coming back in waves, why? you had no idea.
you knew trying to get back to sleep would be fruitless so instead you shakily climb out of bed and slip on your shoes to make your way down to the common room to do some light reading in order to calm yourself down.
you can’t stop your breath from coming out panicky and neither can you stop the tears from cascading down your face, it all felt so real, too real.
as you reach the bottom of the stairs another shivering figure is sitting on the couch, a tall and sad neville longbottom, you both had spoken in passing and when put together for assignments but you would not class yourselves as friends in the slightest.
you wordlessly make your way next to him and softly sit down not to scare him and he lifts his gaze up to yours where he can clearly make out your tear stricken face and he frowns almost comically if not for the fact that his nose is red and his eyes rimmed the same.
your hand softly reaches out in comfort to place over his and he almost retracts his before finding comfort in your warm gaze and softly moving to lay his head on your lap.
words aren’t exchanged between the two of you as you softly show him your book in question and he nods in favor of you reading it softly as the fire illuminates your flushed face.
your left hand holds your book as your softly read through the passages whilst your right simultaneously runs through neville’s hair and flips through the pages.
after a while neville begins to notice your eyes dropping ever so slightly because his main attention is rather on your face than whatever book you’re reading and he tugs your wrist urging you to lay beside him on the small couch.
you know you won’t be able to fit and you softly tell him so and he frowns not wanting to be away from you.
his eyes light up slowly and he urges you to lay down before grabbing a blanket and laying down on your chest.
the position is surprisingly comfortable and you both slowly begin to doze off, not before neville brings your hand up to place back on his head silently asking you to play with his hair again and who are you to deny him the simple pleasure.

She had expected everything she got from her parents. The silence, the disowning, the forgotten birthdays. She was basically a stranger living in their mansion. A ghost wandering through the corridors, ignored by everyone except the house elves and her younger brother (only when her parents are not around to avoid reprimanding and punishment). From the very moment she was sorted into Gryffindor when she was eleven, she was no longer considered a Malfoy to her parents. They disowned their eleven-year-old daughter because of blood-purity.
One thing she never expected was this. Standing there, in the empty corridor. Her brother, Draco stood across from her, his stance defensive and agitated as he snarled at her. The deep emerald on his Slytherin robes was illuminated by the flickering flames in the torch - a contrast from Y/N’s own scarlet on her robes. “A Longbottom? One of the very families who fought against our own parents, Y/N?” He spat at her, different words but the same sentence over and over again. He was talking in circles at this point.
Draco had been the one she never expected to turn on her. She had tried her best to keep him from being compelled to their parent’s side. To keep him from being brainwashed, to protect him from the harsh and bigoted views of the Malfoy clan. “Your parents, Draco,” Y/N spoke back, voice broken and quiet, but Draco heard it - evident by the flare in his nostrils. “They stopped being mine when I was eleven.”
“You still have loyalties, Y/N. Regardless of if they ignore you or not, you are still a Malfoy,” Draco boomed. Y/N closed her eyes, willing the stinging in her eyes to cease - knowing that she couldn’t cry in front of the one person she would seek out for comfort. He wasn’t her little brother anymore. He was a product of the indoctrination of the Death Eaters. “You can’t date that Longbottom boy, they are one of our people’s sworn enemies.”
“Neville is not his parents, nor are his parents the bad guys, Draco. Godric, I have tried so hard,” The stinging was back, worse this time as a ball formed in her throat, the words of her sentence breaking. “To keep you from falling into their trap, but I guess I failed. I guess they painted your mental picture of me with doubt and contempt when I tried to show you their true colours.”
Draco strode towards her, but she stayed there, unmoving as he approached her. Her younger-than-her-by-a-year brother is now towering over her and how she missed the days when he was running around, pestering Potter and throwing out insults he would regret. That Y/N had taught him was wrong but his impulsive mind would act before thinking. “How dare you speak of our parents that way?” Draco practically growled. As if he were a guard dog for the people that just view him as a puppet to carry on their harmful and immoral morals when they are gone.
“Again Draco, they are not my parents anymore. Their morals are not mine and they shouldn’t be yours, but I failed you and for that, I will forever be sorry, but I will not sacrifice my happiness by leaving the one thing I have left.” She stood her ground, despite Draco’s long finger pointed in her face accusingly.
“You’re dead to me.” The words rang cold in her bones, her heart practically stopping, shattering as if those words were a curse. Penetrating a wall that took years to build, but only took three seconds to break.
It was as if the world around her had stopped moving, screeching to a halt. But, at the same time, it felt as if the spinning picked up, swirling around her in blurred colours. Fighting the weight settling on her chest, she couldn’t let him know his words hurt her. That’s what he wanted. To hurt her. To force her to stop fighting. She could remember when he called her brave for fighting so hard and now, he was one of the ones who wanted to tame her. To restrict her.
Her resolve broke as his cold, grey eyes stared into hers angrily. Her chest heaved as tears filled her eyes. She doesn’t have it in her to leave with grace. He had been one of the only people who stuck with her. Grace be damned, she was going to hit him where it hurt. She was going to sink his ship just like he sunk hers. She’s going to kill him just as he killed her. “Just know that I love you, Draco. You and Neville were the only two things I had, and now I’ve lost you to save him, but regardless of that, I will always love you until my dying day. Just like I promised.”
Her words didn’t seem to hit him, but he could see the change in her from utter brokenness to fire. She was still fighting, just not in the same way. She was fighting her sadness, her grace. She was fighting the one thing she said she would never do - leave him. To haunt him. To forget him. “Do what you want, you’re nothing to me but a ghost.” He spat, turning on his heel and striding away. The echoes of his shoes hitting the stone echoed faintly the further he got. Even when he was out of sight, she could still hear him.
Standing there, she blinked. Wanting to sink to her knees and cry as if she had witnessed someone meaningful to her be killed mercilessly, she stood there, unable to do it. She hoped that she had killed him just the same, but she couldn’t be sure. Draco is a guarded person, he doesn’t let the hurt show. He was trained not to by their father. Taking a deep breath, she turned around and walked away from the spot she lost her best friend. Lost her brother forever.
____
No angry letter. No Howler. Nothing, just further disappointment and disowning. Y/N had expected her parents to do something to express their displeasure to her about her dating Neville when the news finally broke beyond Hermione and Luna, but nothing. They had sent Draco instead as the final blow to her. The secret weapon they held in the arsenal for years, waiting for the right time to cut her deep. They knew nothing they would do would hurt her quite like them turning her brother on her.
“What are you thinking about love?” Neville asked, settling next to Y/N as she sat on the couch, staring intently at the roaring fire in thought. She felt his comforting arm wind around her shoulders, making her tear her eyes away from the flickering flames to look at him.
His round face was alight with the orange glow from the fire, looking as comforting as ever. His brown eyes, soft and calming, stared back at her, surrounding her with more warmth than any fire could emit. “Oh, nothing.” She sighed, falling into his body, cuddling in under his arm, head falling to the crook of his neck. She felt the weight of his head settling on top of hers, leaning into her too.
“You’re thinking of your brother, aren’t you?” He whispered, fearful of breaking the serene energy of the room. Heaving out a sigh, she glanced down at her fingers. Almost as if he knew without seeing, Neville reached blindly towards her hand, intertwining their fingers together.
“Admittedly, yes. Do I want to? No, but he finds his way back in,” She revealed, staring down at their combined hands. “He’s turned into my worst fears. Everything I didn’t want for him. Now, I’ve lost him.”
Neville, with his hand holding her bicep, squeezed her to him affectionately. For a quiet, mousy boy, Neville never stood back when his loved ones needed comfort. The surest Y/N had ever seen him was when Luna was crying over something to do with the Nargals and he didn’t even waste a second wrapping her up in a hug. That day was the day she knew she loved Neville. “You know, in life, you gather people like stones. You never know what the rock is for. Sometimes, you just throw them away and sometimes you make diamonds out of them. Sometimes, family are the rocks you throw away. Sometimes they are the ones you turn into diamonds.”
She paused with furrowed eyebrows. Slowly, she turned her head to look up at him, seeing him looking intently at the fire. “And Draco was one meant to be thrown away. No matter how hard I tried, I would never turn him into a diamond?” She questioned softly.
Turning his head, Neville’s eyes seemed to pour into her soul in the purest and most loving way. “Sometimes, it’s up to the rock if it wants to be a diamond or if it just wants to be a rock. Draco is the only one who can turn himself into a diamond at this point.”
“You know, you’re smart and wise, Neville. I wish more people would see that,” She hummed. “I just hope Draco wished I was still in his life.”
“I am sure that he’s cursing your name, wishing you would see things his way,” Neville spoke. “He's a victim of his own mind. He thinks he’s right and you’re wrong because that is what he is made to think.” He pointed out, giving Draco the benefit of the doubt despite all the horrible things Draco has said to him (and done). Another reason Y/N loved Neville. His selflessness, his ability to see the slightest of good within people.
Now, without Draco, she only had one person in her corner - Neville, but my Godric, she wouldn’t want anyone else. Telling her she was brave for the fight she fought every Godric-damn day of her life. Giving her nothing but love, and support. Unlike her brother who, even though he said he loved her, still put her through hell every day. Unlike her parents who threw her away like a useless rock - undestined for a life of a diamond. Neville would never throw her away - he would display her proudly on the mantle even if she was just a boring rock. “I just want to run away from all of this, Neville.” She muttered, twisting around to bury her face in his sweater-clad chest, fighting against the tears.
With a soothing ‘shush’ and large, gentle rubs over her back, Neville pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “When we’re both out of Hogwarts, we can go anywhere you want, because you can go anywhere you want.” He reassured her.
“I can go anywhere I want-” She whispered back to herself, her voice muffled by Neville’s sweater. ‘Just not home.’ She thought in her head. She would never find the comfort she had with her brother. Never feel the warmth of familial love again. Instead, the mansion that awaited her visit for the summer holiday would be even colder. Void of comfort and love. No, the mansion was not home, Draco used to be her home. But she could never go back there now.
____
Laughter filled the Three Broomsticks, and Y/N sat in the middle of it all, surrounded by her closest friends and acquaintances. At the beginning of it, she had longed to see her brother walk through the door to join in on the joyous festivities, but that platinum hair had yet to grace the threshold of the warm and overcrowded pub. Her heart had burned in disappointment for a while, but as her friends poured around to congratulate her on being top of her class, the thought of her brother faded, but still lingered in a last-ditch effort of hope settling in the bottom of her arching heart.
Neville, despite his dislike of crowds and loud events, sat next to her, sipping at a butterbeer, talking to Luna beside him about the plants each animal eats and what benefits they gain from it. Hermione sat at Y/N’s other side, eyes darting around the party to ensure her perfectly planned event was running as smoothly as possible. “Madam Rosmerta,” She flagged the owner down as she breezed past, laughing and talking to one of the students who frequented the pub. She treated most of them like her own children sometimes. “Could we get two more butterbeers, please?” Hermione handed her the exact change for two butterbeers.
“You know, I can pay for my own butterbeers, I worked enough hours over the summer holiday, it won’t put me out, Hermione.” Y/N informed her as Madam Rosmerta stuffed the coins in her apron. Hermione shushed her. Y/N loved her friends and boyfriend, but they had never allowed her to pay for anything if they were with her. Always spewing something about her not having access to the Malfoy fortune and they didn’t want her to spend all the money she’s worked so hard for since she was Eleven.
“This is a celebration for you, even if you weren’t disowned by your parents, we would still not let you pay for anything today.” Hermione informed her, leaning back against the back of the round booth they sat in. Rolling her eyes, Y/N scoffed. As much as she hated that her friends and boyfriend babied her that way, she couldn’t argue that she loved it all at the same time.
Hands clasped together with her aforementioned boyfriend, Y/N looked over at him as he took another swig of his butterbeer. His brown hair was combed perfectly, his bangs swept in a swoop running across his forehead, his round cheeks puffed with all the liquid he just sucked back. He pulled the mug from his mouth, a bit of foam remaining on his upper lip that he hurriedly swiped off with his tongue. “You’re adorable, you know that?”
Y/N’s comment obviously caught him off guard as his eyes grew wide and a blush invaded his cheeks instantly as he snapped his head to look at her. She giggled at this, heart the lightest it had been since the incident with Draco in the dark corridor. And, to think, people thought they weren’t a good pair simply because Neville is quiet and shy. They said she would corrupt him, that the relationship would be over in a week. They hadn’t known that they were already six months into it before the secret fought its way out.
“Ron! I told you to keep an eye out and you abandoned your post for what? A turkey leg?” Hermione’s harsh whisper caught the couple’s attention, making them look over to her just in time to see her whack her not-official boyfriend with a napkin.
“Keep an eye out for what?” Ron asked, his mouth full of a bite of turkey leg, a clueless look on his round, freckled face. Harry, who sat across from him and was on a Hermione delegated break from the door watch for some reason Hermione refused to tell Y/N, turned in his chair. Following Hermione’s line of sight, Harry sighed.
“I would reckon she wanted you to keep an eye out for that, Ron.” He sighed, nodding towards the door. Out of curiosity, Y/N looked over. There, towering over the students crowding around the door due to the high volume of people crowded in the already warm and foggy room, stood the slim figure she was sure would never appear here today. Draco.
His sharp, grey eyes landed on her, meeting her eyes as if the sibling bond was not severed. Begrudgingly, he weaved around the people. Part of Y/N wanted him to come to their table. Another part of her hoped he wouldn’t. It has been hell for her. He has put her through nothing but hell with him breezing past her if they hadn’t stayed up confessing every deep, dark secret that swirled beneath their surfaces. As if she was not even there. As if she were a ghost. The glares he sent her across rooms when she would send him letters without signing her name off. She should have known he would know it was from her. The sight of the anonymous gifts she would send him that he would break beyond the point of repair and stick outside the Gryffindor Common Room. It had been hell for her.
Part of her was delighted and part of her nearly died when he stepped up to the table, blocking the sight of Harry and Ron’s table. Hermione glared up at him and Neville (bless his soul) was practically shivering in fear, but still gripped Y/N’s hand tighter in a sign of support, comfort and protection. “What do you want, Malfoy?” Hermione was the first to speak with a snarl, her nose turned up slightly as she raised her chin, sitting up again.
She knew how her family (Draco included) was spinning the story to anyone who matters. She was the ungrateful daughter who left the family. She abandoned them. She made their life hell. Regardless of the gifts she poured all over Draco. Ring encrusted with diamond. A snake ring with emeralds. She had used the little bit of money she was able to squeeze from her parents to buy them. She was the bad guy in their story laced with lies and now she was the bad guy. They had killed her hard work, killed her chances. They had killed her and now she was staring down a life of fighting tooth and nail to crawl her way out of the grave they buried her in.
“I heard you are top of your class after exams.” Draco ignored her. He wore his black suit, his hair perfect. But it wasn’t in the same endearing way Neville does, it was in an I’m-better-than-you-because-of-my-father way. As he crossed his arms over his chest, a gleam of jewellery caught Y/N’s eyes. His rings she gave him. Was he wearing them because he longed to be connected to her again? Because he missed her? Or was it to wear them as he continued to bury her? Another nail in the coffin of their once-strong sibling bond.
“If I’m dead to you, why are you here at a celebration of what is to come in my life, Draco?” She questioned. Was it a ploy to dig the dagger in further? To dangle the memory of the good times in front of her before ripping them away again - reopening the wound?
“I just came to say congratulations.” Draco looked down his nose at her. It took everything within her and she still failed to take the high road.
“I am sure you mean it, just as much as when you said that you loved me,” She quipped. He told her repeatedly that he loved her, that she was his favourite. That she was so strong and that he looked up to her. “Just know, Draco, that I know I linger in the back of your mind, haunting you. Taunting you. Eating away at your soul because as much as you try to hurt me, I am sure you still miss me in your bones. You can aim for my heart with your attacks, you can go for my blood - for my head, but I know you hear my voice on repeat when you’re lying awake at night, like a stolen lullaby. I haunt you, but I never wanted to-” She paused. “Remember that.” She couldn’t go with grace, she needed to hurt him. To plant herself in his mind, engraving herself in his mind. He was aiming for her heart and seeking out her blood and so was she.
Releasing Neville’s hand as she maintained eye contact with her fuming brother, she nudged Hermione. “Where are you going?” Neville asked her, brown eyes clouded with concern, his eyebrows furrowed.
“I’m going for a walk, I’ll be back soon.” She informed him, breaking her eye contact, to look back at him, reassuring him that she was fine. Their eyes meeting, the world slowed, but also seemed to speed up its turning. The same sensation that happened to her in the corridor, but a completely different feeling attached to it. She barely recognized the sound of Draco striding back out of the pub.
“I’m fine, Love,” She reassured him. “I just need to clear my head.”
“I’m sorry for all of this, Y/N.” Neville called out to her, guilt sitting in his throat and oozing out with his words.
The second she stepped out the back door of The Three Broomsticks, the rain pelted her, soaking her clothes in the spring rain. She didn’t care about the way her clothes and hair stuck to her skin, or the chill the cold rain brought or the feeling of the breeze hitting her body full force. She just continued to walk a distance. The wind and the sound of the rain hitting everything around her drowned out any noise.
“Godric, why you? Why did I need to lose you,” She sobbed, tears mixing with the rain hitting her face. Her voice strained as she screamed at the grey sky. “Why did I have to fail you? What did I do to deserve this hell? Not even on my worst days, did I do anything to merit this hell! Never did Neville deserve to feel guilty for this!” She screamed as if she were talking to Draco, knowing that he would most likely never talk to her again after this day.
As much as it pained her, she knew she wouldn’t have it in herself to allow him to get away with hurting her. She couldn’t live with herself if she went with grace. She needed to have that in Draco’s head. She needed to sink her parent’s secret weapon against her. She needed to allow herself the chance to haunt them. All of them. But what did it cost her? It cost her ever going home.
Suddenly, she felt the familiar sweater-clad arms wrap around her, slowly guiding her down as her knees gave out. Her sobs were drowned out by the sound of the rain as he held her, slowly rocking her back and forth as they sat in the mud and allowed the rain to wash over them. “It’s not your fault, Neville.” She sobbed, wanting him to stop feeling guilty. She might have lost one home, but she now has the best and most loving home in Neville’s arms.

When he first sees you walk into the room, your blood red dress swaying as you walk with confidence, he is stunned into silence. All he can do is give a goofy smile and admire your beauty as speaking is not an option unless he wants to say something embarrassing.

Oh Christ.. As soon as he sees you, it takes his brain a minute to fully comprehend the absolute goddess standing in front of him. When he finally snaps out of his daze, he gives this really dumb laugh and smiles, blushing before looking down at the ground, not wanting you to see him looking like a fool.

Once he sees you in this gorgeous, innocent yellow coloured dress, he smiles, his hand out for you to take as he asks you to dance with him. He looks cool and calm on the outside.. but he is screaming on the inside at how flawlessly beautiful you look, and also hoping that he won't embarrass himself tonight.

Most people would probably think he'd be the most foolishly in love out of all the boys, but I disagree. He would smile gently, his eyes lovestruck as always when he sees you. He acts pretty normally around you other than his constant smile. He's not freaking out like the others because, in his eyes, this is how you always look; like a goddess.

The fact that you look like an Angel next to these to mischevious demons is no coincidence. All three of you have agreed that your their Angel to their Demon. So when they saw you in this pure white dress, they laughed, knowing what you were going for, while also staring at you with so much love in their eyes.

pairing: neville longbottom x fem!reader (use of she/her pronouns)
request: Hello! I'd love to order from you, Neville x female reader. Reader is Snape's goddaughter, reader's parents trust Snape a lot so they made him reader's godfather and he can watch her almost ALL the time at school. Reader and Neville become boyfriend and girlfriend (THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH), you know, reader is extremely affectionate with Neville even in public, hugging him, wanting to kiss him every so often and although it's nice to have his bubble of love, it also gives Neville some fear since he feels Snape's murderous gaze on himself every time his girlfriend wants to express her love xD Snape would be like a jealous father and Neville the son-in-law afraid that Snape would poison him
warnings: yule ball is in fifth year instead of fourth, snape being snape
note: i've been WAITING for someone to send me a neville request, he deserves all the love in the world <3
Tumblr media
your parents trusted your uncle severus a whole lot, and part of you believed most of that trust stemmed from the fact that he works at hogwarts and is able to keep a watchful eye on you.
they, as in your parents, have never denied your suspicions, but simply respond with, "uncle severus has shown how much he cares for you, and being a professor at your school is just a bonus."
oh, it was indeed a bonus. but at times it was as if you were suffocating.
you loved neville longbottom more than anything in the world, and him, you.
ever since that god-awful professor gilderoy lockhart had unleashed pixies into the classroom and strung neville high up into the air, questioning, "why me?" neville genuinely believed that he was never going to get a break. however, that changed once he heard the incantation, "wingardian leviosa!" and he felt his body being lifted until he hit the floor.
your second-year self had rushed over to him, asking if he was alright after the fiasco. he looked up at you, eyes wide in admiration while nodding his head, "t-thank you, y/n!"
you had smiled brightly, "of course neville! now, let's give those pixies a piece of our minds, yeah?"
from then on, you and neville were two peas in a pod. he knew of you and your family, yet was never one to judge too quickly. sure, your family had power in the wizarding world, but he never heard of any ties to you-know-who or even the malfoys. maybe you were good.
and that you were.
as time went on, well into your third year, neville had learned that you were genuinely the nicest, sweetest person he had ever known. he knew you like all of his plants, and had even named one of his mallowsweet leaves after you. you had patience for him, were willing to hear him talk about herbology or his parents, or how much gran upset him whenever she said that he would never live up to their family's expectations.
as your friendship evolved, you had eventually told neville of snape's relation to you in your third year, calling him "uncle sev" as neville looked at you as though you had three heads. you wanted neville to know that professor snape just wanted to look after you, and if snape was ever mean to him, you would talk to him.
by fourth year, it was evident that you and neville longbottom were best friends - and uncle severus was not a fan. his rude comments toward neville seemed to intensify and though he wanted to say something to you, he was not one to step into family business. he had never told you about what your uncle would say, but just the glares that he would get from snape if he were around you was enough to shut his mouth.
then, by merlin, on the train to hogwarts in the beginning of your fifth year, neville had asked you to be his girlfriend. while he was unbelievably nervous because he did not want to face snape's wrath, you held his hands in a hidden corridor of the express and he calmed almost immediately. your eyes had lit up and allowed neville to hold your face between his hands, your noses lightly brushing. you had considered that your first kiss.
neville loved you with his whole heart, but sometimes he thought that you actually wanted him killed by professor snape.
you loved showing neville attention, whether it be holding his hand when walking to class, kissing his cheek at breakfast, rubbing noses in the transfiguration courtyard, or, at this present moment, kissing under the starry night of the great hall during the yule ball.
neville had asked you weeks ago when you cuddled in his bed, poster curtains giving you both privacy as he gently ran his fingers over your back. your head was on his chest as his head laid atop of yours, pressing his lips into your hair ever so gently.
"petal," he began, "i know this is probably a given, but would you like to go to the yule ball with me?"
you lifted your head, an adoring smile on your face as you lifted a hand to his cheek, "of course, handsome. i would love to."
neville blushed and pulled you closer, his free hand catching your cheek as you both leaned in, lips meeting in a soft kiss. with a rub of your noses as you both pulled away, you gave a soft laugh, "I'm going to blow your socks off, longbottom."
neville brushed some hair out of your eyes, "you do everyday, petal."
you were right, of course. your dress had simply blown neville away and he was rendered speechless when you had walked down the stairs. you met your boyfriend at the bottom of the staircase, "where are your socks?"
neville chuckled, dipping his head as he grabbed your hand, "off somewhere in the world, i suppose, dove. I'm not sure that I'm ready to show you off to the school, you uncle especially."
you blushed, brushing your nose with his, "I'm only focused on you, nev. plus, my uncle can shove it tonight. now c'mon, i wanna dance with you."
the ball was spectacular, and it was an experience to be within a huge group of students dancing together as music played beautifully in the background. however, through the night, a slow dance was needed, and though neville hadn't seen your uncle severus yet, he was still nervous to put his hands on your waist.
you had looked up at him, settling his nerves immediately. with a small smile, you wrapped both arms around his neck, "just me and you, handsome."
he grasped onto your waist, breathing a bit steadier, "just us, petal." neville leaned down, capturing your lips in a kiss as you sighed, relaxing into him. he had that effect on you, calming you and just allowing you to feel him.
he pulled away, admiration clear in his eyes, "i love you, flower. with all my being."
tears found themselves at your waterline as you smiled at him, holding his cheek in your hand, "and i love you, nev. more than you could ever know."
soon enough, the song ended and you had excused yourself to the bathroom, kissing neville's cheek before you left. he watched you go from one of the pillars, eyes following your figure as far as he could just to see you.
that was until one professor severus snape stepped into his view.
neville let out a yelp, taking a step back and meeting the cold stone of the pillar. severus towered over him and his eyes were the most unkind he had ever seen.
"pr-professor snape, didn't see you there! enjoying the ball?" neville asked, voice full of nerves as he prepared himself for his untimely death.
snape almost growled at neville as he whimpered, "don't play coy with me, longbottom. who do you think you are, kissing my goddaughter like that? did you poison her with amortentia? I'll have you found out, longbottom, and torture you until you are deemed worthy of mercy."
neville stopped shaking, his fear turning into...anger? he furrowed his brows, "amortentia, sir? you really think i would do that to someone as, as beautiful, as kind, as loving as y/n? no, sir, respectfully, you have it all wrong."
snape glared, "watch your words, longbottom."
"no, sir - i think you better watch yours," neville began, "i love your goddaughter, and i am doing everything in my power to keep her safe, to protect her from this world, and she has shown me what it is like to love so strongly, that it hurts. she is my world, professor snape, and while i am deathly afraid of you, she is worth it. so, in the words of my girlfriend, shove it."
both men hadn't realized it, but you were back from the bathroom, directly behind your uncle as neville had confessed everything to snape. your breath hitched, and snape turned around, eyes meeting yours as a smile appeared on your face. snape glanced at neville, the tiniest hint of a smirk on his face, before he turned and kissed your forehead. then, he was off.
you immediately pranced onto neville, kissing him with all the love you could muster. your heart was full, as was his, and neville couldn't stop his heart from beating so fast. neville pulled away, letting you breathe as you laid your hands on his chest.
you played with the buttons on his suit, "he wasn't too mean, was he?"
neville shook his head, "nothing i couldn't handle, flower. all for you."
with a small nod, you looked at neville, "just give him time, you'll grow on him. with the way you put him in his place, seems like you've already proven yourself. not that you need to, nev, uncle sev is just-"
neville rubbed his nose with yours, "i know what you meant, petal. i just hope i didn't overstep and he poisons me tomorrow morning."
you giggled, "oh, my love. you did exactly what he wanted you to do."
neville cupped your cheek, "you're my world, petal. you know that?"
with a smile, you leaned into his hand, "and you're mine, nev. forever and always."

The Great Hogwarts Storm
Tumblr media
fem!reader x boyfriend!neville longbottom
{{a storm hits hogwarts and neville makes it his job to protect you...}}
Tumblr media
. . .
A grueling Thursday night fell upon the inhabitants of the old school: strings of charcoal clouds smothered the castle's turrets, shattering pangs of rain hammered the weathered tiles, sending a few slates down onto the courtyard with a crack, whips of blinding light drew across the angry skies aiding the few flames that flickered in it's windows, thunderous echoes being the only thing to muffle the wet droplets bouncing off the pooling puddles.
'One of the heaviest storms Hogwarts has seen'. A sentence reiterated along the halls - every professor warning batches of students to stay in their dorms, close all windows and have their wand on them at all times. Uncertainty, fear and the odd pang of excitement washed upon the witches and wizards as they scurried away to the safety of their dorms, ordered and guided by prefects.
"Gryffindors this way please!", a tall, auburn haired boy yelled, dressed in his red robes. A gaggle of tiny students wearing the same robes chased after him eagerly, shuffling their feet and bumping into one another as they went. Another group, slightly taller, wondered the same path, yet ten steps behind, traipsing rather casually and sparsely in comparison.
The chilling hallways were swarmed with robes of red, green, blue and yellow, darting every which way, squeezing narrowly through the doorways, as the lighting illuminated the large windows, exposing spooked expressions.
"Come on Ravenclaws! Follow me, follow me!", bellowed a tall, dark haired girl with a stern look about her.
"Quickly! QUICKLY!", spoke a honey haired slytherin with an annoyed huff, just after a rosy-looking girl beckoned the hufflepuffs down the stairs.
"N-neville", y/n trembled, her voice a whisper in the chaos. Her head twirled in a fashion not dissimilar to an owl, as she desperately searched for reassurance. Her fingertips drifted to her parted lips, her eyes doelike in worry, only enhancing when other students swayed her from side to side as they passed.
Her skin prickled in shock, an icy hand grasped her delicate wrist with a tickle of rough fabric, at the same time a familiar voice called, "Y/n, gah there you are". She swivelled around, her body physically responding to his presence, softening and relaxing. His gentle voice like a blanket of honey.
"Ah Neville!", she planted her arms around his body, letting his, drape around her frame. Whilst her face snuggled into his chest, she felt a feathery kiss drop onto the top of her head.
With a beckoning, Neville tenderly laced his fingers into hers and edged her away from the crowds until they reached the gryffindor portrait, widely open as the fat lady sat sleeping in her frame while students poured in.
Neville tightened his grip on her, yet still loving, as he pulled her to follow behind him as he weaved between gryffindors.
"Oi Neville, that you?", Dean questioned over the heads of the crowd in the common room.
Before she had time to realise, he hid her and her differently coloured robes behind his stature as he replied to his friend. Over the calls and chatter inside, and the stomping thunder and rain outside, she could only make out snippets of their conversation, but she gathered that the boys in Neville's dorm were going to camp out with some others in their dorm, a sleepover of sorts, since lessons were cancelled tomorrow and students advised to stick together.
"I- I've got... plans... tonight, sorry", Neville explained quickly before wrapping his robes around her, covering hers so people wouldn't see or question her presence in the wrong common room.
He guided her up the stairs quickly until the two of them were left alone in his dorm, the majority of beds stripped of their blankets and pillows, and only one flickering candle perched next to Neville's bed.
He turned to her, sighing, with a big grin and led her to his bed.
"No one should come in, they're all in the other dorm, just us", he admitted.
She nodded in response, jumping out of her skin whenever the thunder struck, silently wishing she was back in the populated common room, at least then the raging weather was dulled by overexcited students.
He came up beside her, placing an arm around her shoulder, as they sat next to each other in the candle light. She could tell Neville was hiding his own worries behind the adrenaline of keeping her safe and cosy, he wanted to put up a brave facade for her sake.
"Can't believe it, was only sunny the other day", he remarked, aiming to diffuse the tension.
"Hey, it'll be alright, we'll be fine here, no safer place than Hogwarts", he continued, seeing his small talk made no difference in the grip the harshness of the weather seemed to have on y/n.
She sat subtly shaking, "Y-you don't have to wait with me, really, you can go to the other dorm with your friends...", her voice trailled off.
He was quick to reply, "They're big boys they'll be alright, plus I'll be glad to get a night away from Ron's snoring, and Seamus mumbles in his sleep did you know?".
The pair smiled at eachother.
The truth was that Y/n was never fond of bad weather, the loud thunder startled her, and the lighting was unsettling. Neville knew this, so when he heard the news of the storm his first thought was y/n. He ran through the halls, the opposite of the crowd, searching for her. It wasn't that she didn't get along with the others in her house, she did, for the most part, but no one seemed to make her feel as Neville did.
After a few moments of couting the time between thunder calls, and deciding that the storm wasn't getting any further away, Neville got up from the bed and kneeled down by his shabby trunk.
"I think I've got some warm clothes in here", he dug around for a moment before pulling out a pair of pale blue and white linen pyjamas, two pairs of wool socks, two knitted jumpers, and finally, another pair of red pyjamas with small green leaves embroidered on them. "Mm 'ere", he threw the red pyjamas, a pair of socks, and a jumper over to y/n perched on the bed, "try this on".
He sat there busying himself with closing his trunk and standing back up before his gaze met hers. His face instantly reddened. "Oh, yeah, um, I- uh I'll turn around, yeah". Neville turned his back on y/n, allowing her to get changed out of her black robes into something cosier.
"Okay, ready", she whispered meekly, watching his expression as he turned back around to face her, regarding her cosy feet, baggy jumper and cheerful trousers. She smiled. "How do I look?"
"Brilliant, you should wear my clothes more often", he mumbled, before changing his own clothes and calling her back over to his bed where he pulled the duvet back and wrapped her in a blanket. Neville drew the rich red curtains closed that bordered his bed, pulling the blanket up over her ears to mute the noise of the storm, as she cuddled against his warm chest, her face in his jumper.
"My gran always says rain before seven will clear by eleven... It will pass, muffin, and I'll be right here next to you until it does", he gave a dopey, boyish smile, as her eyes fluttered shut, her eyelashes tickling his neck gently.

Cute lil’ thing ain't you..
Neville Longbottom x Black!femreader Slytherin
Short!
Warnings: teasing, Not proofread!
Tumblr media
It wasn't often you found yourself looking over at the Gryffindor table, just for the back they annoyed most of them anyway. Nonetheless, you found yourself looking at a tall white boy who caught your eye. He was a shy little thing well not little he towered over so many people.
“You're staring again.” your friend said.
“How could you not look at him he's fine, would mind me a piece of him.” you spoke ending with a giggle, watching the girl roll her eyes at your comment.
“Girl be fuckin real he's probably scared of you, the poor kitty probably thinks you’re gonna eat him alive.” she taunted eyeing you.
You only glared at her but she was right, you felt as if he were afraid of you in a way but it didn't stop you from purposely sitting next to him or bumping into him in the castle halls.
Eventually, you found yourself with him in the library, he was in the herb section. Why not start a conversation, what could go wrong?
You walked next to him pretending to scan the books you saw him look down at you but only to hurriedly look back that the shelves. A small grin appeared on your lips. “Your Neville, right?” you asked looking to start the conversation. Your eyes glimpsed over at him, his dark fluffy hair covered his face you could feel the panic on him.
“It's alright I don't bite.” you joked, his head snapped to look at you. “I- I know sorry I.. Yeah I'm Neville.” he shutters over his word his body slightly moving toward you.
You let a chuckle come from you his shyness taking him over, his face was beat read yet you could still see his freckles his eyes squeeze shut. “Such an intimidating size yet you quiver like a kitten without it's mother..” you spoke softly.
He grabbed his book holding it close to his body looking down at you his mouth barely gaped, you could see his uneven teeth his heart-shaped lips pink just the same as his cheeks. “I don't quite understand what you mean..” he uttered, his bodyweight shifting on his feet nervously.
“Neville, hun you are well over six foot, yet you act like your tiny like a kitten, not a lion,” you stated simply. The words sounded harsher than you indicated it caused his brows to frown.
“O..oh is that bad..? I don't exactly want to be scary..” he stated nervously he's eyes finally meeting yours.
“I wouldn’t say so personally I think your a cute lil’ thing.” you said your arms crossing smirking you at the boy.
His body stood up straight, he hugged the book tighter his face once again going dark red.

I just managed to sneak away from Umbridge, thanks to the twins. Honestly, I do not know what I would do without them most of the time.
Having just caught a break, I decided to go give a surprise visit to my one and only sunshine. Obviously, I knew exactly where to find him.
As I took my stroll to the greenhouses, I looked around the path, admiring the nature. Hogwarts had such an overlooked beauty. I could not believe how ignorant most people could be, I did not care what you told me, being at Hogwarts was a privilege. I could not understand why some would risk getting pitched out.
If only to remind me of things I should be grateful for, I arrived at the glass door to one of the castle greenhouses only shortly thereafter.  Within, I saw my sole source of happiness, bent over a pot on the long wood table inside.
I opened the door and was about to make my presence known when I stopped myself, taking in the scene around me. When I had thought that Neville was simply working on his plants in the comfort of his own silence, I was very clearly mistaken.
Somewhat loud music was playing from no particular, identifiable source, its tone wrapping the room up in a bright and warm aura. Magic, I thought, isn't it beautiful?
The true beauty, though, was coming from the boy standing a little bit in front of me. The boy who still hadn't noticed my being here. I couldn't blame him, necessarily. The music was quite overbearing, not really in a bad way but I was rather quiet in comparison.
I recognized the tune to be from his personal herbology playlist. He was very proud of it but he never let me listen to it. Typically, he noticed when I came in or was expecting me so it was switched off at the moment of my arrival. I had never really known why that was but it was then that I started to pick up on it.
As a new song came on, Neville started humming along to himself. Or, at least he thought he was by himself.
I leaned against a sink near the door with my bag still slung over my shoulder as I watched him and a small grin tugged at my lips.
When the song picked up, he really started to get into it, singing the words and moving around a bit as he went on.
As time progressed, he started twirling and dancing around the room, his head matching his excitement as it bobbed to the music.
I really had to hold my breath so as not to laugh at his passion when he sang into his wand, or makeshift microphone in this case.
"Put your hand in mine, you know that I want to be with you all the time." He sang out. I really couldn't help thinking that he wasn't half bad. Was that just me simping? Perhaps.
My smile only grew as he continued on with, "You know that I won't stop until I make you mine. You know that I won't stop until I make you mine. Until I make you mine."
He was still spinning around and singing, "Put your hand in mine. You know that I want to be with you all the time. Oh, darlin', darlin', baby, you're so very fine." I had started to pick up on why he wouldn't let me listen to this playlist and why he only seemed to listen to it when he was alone in this very greenhouse. It had never crossed my mind that the songs reminded him of me, much less that he got so excited about the thought of me.
I was grinning and most definitely blushing profusely as the song began to wrap up.
Neville really got into it at the very end. He did a pose, still with wand in hand, his fist balled around the handle, the tip pointed towards his mouth, when the music dimmed and slowed down gradually.
"You know that I won't stop until I make you mine." Neville began to finish up, "Until I make you-" he jumped just about six feet in the air as he cut himself off. He had just turned and saw me watching him. In an instant, he had flicked his wand in the air and the room went silent.
"How... uh, how long were you there, Sunflower?" He tripped and fell all over his words.
With a sly smirk on my face, I simply stated, "Long enough."
He turned a deep crimson as he started fiddling with his wand and fingers. It was clear that he didn't want to know when he mumbled, "Meaning?"
"Meaning," I chuckled breathily, "I think you're only more adorable than before." I scratched the side of my head with my wand tip, throwing a convincing look of confusion into my eyes, "Which I didn't really think was possible."
He smiled lightly as he looked at the floor.
I took a few steps closer to the table and dropped my book bag on the surface. As I walked down the significant length of the table towards him, his feet shuffled in embarrassment.
"What? Are you embarrassed, Sunshine?"
He only blushed in response, his eyes now on my shoes which wasn't saying much considering how much shorter I was than him, he might as well just have looked at my face.
I put my dainty pointer finger under his chin and pulled it up so as to allow him a look at my eyes.
"You never told me that you spend so much time thinking about me in here."
He blushed again. I loved how I knew just the way to get him flustered.
"I like that," I added proceeding to go on my tiptoes to try and plant a kiss on the very tip of his nose. I pouted when I came over a foot short. He chuckled a bit.
When I tried again, I made sure not to fail. I grabbed his tie, which had been tucked into his matching uniform vest and slid out effortlessly as I tugged on it, which only gave me more hold on it. I dragged his face towards mine, him not resisting at all, and when he was stooped so far that I could reach while on my very top tiptoes, I landed the kiss. He laughed out loud this time.
"What? I don't give up! You know that."
"Oh, yes. I do. And you know I won't stop until I make you mine."
I chuckled at his little reference to the song he had been rocking with.
"Well, I think you've already got that."

rubbish and the weather
A/N: my first hp universe fic 🥺 i hope somebody enjoys this because i LOVE neville and i LOVE friends to lovers tropes
Pairings: Neville Longbottom x Fem!Reader
Summary: Neville is hiding two things from you: the chest under his bed and his affections for you. 1.5k words
Warnings: fluff, face kisses, friendly teasing/bullying, SICKENING pining, neville being borderline creepy but in a sweet way, cursing, friends to… lovers?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"'Some have begun to question whether or not the Sorting Hat even exists'. Oh, be serious, there's no way anyone would believe this rubbish"—you toss the flimsy tabloid to the foot of the bed, nearly pelting Neville with the busily patterned cover—"Now, if they'd asked, does the Sorting Hat actually sort... well, then I'd have to think about it."
"If you think it's rubbish, then why are you subscribed?"
He doesn't even have to glance up from his almanac to know you're glaring holes through his skull. And you don't have to see the other side of his skull to know that he's borderline laughing at you.
"Oh, and I'm sure what you're reading is much more enlightening. What is this?"—You snatch the thin booklet from his lap, illuminating the soft yellow cover under your suddenly glowing wand—"Last year's Farmers' Almanac?"
"Give me that—I'm trying to follow weather patterns to understand what crops might attract juvenile basilisks to common gardens in order to decrease slug attacks on spring harvests. Are you even listening?" he whines, smacking your calf with the booklet as you reach for a worn quill and a shred of parchment.
"Mhm! Baby basilisks, slug attacks, harvests, got it!" you coo, scribbling across the paper flattened against the headboard of his bed.
"What are you doing?"
"Nothing, plant boy! Go back to reading."
"Actually, I prefer plantsman, thank you very much."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, plant boy."
He turns his back to you again, sitting criss-cross on the edge of the bed, hunched over as he scans the pages for keywords and uncommon patterns.
You shift across the bed, draping one arm over Neville's shoulder and dropping the slip of paper into his lap. Your head rests on his other shoulder while he picks at the edges of the piece and ignores the fire in his face.
"For me?" he says, holding it in his palms like it could rip at any second. Like he'll blink and it'll turn to shreds in his fingers.
"It's your little basilisk"—you run your fingertip along the bottom corner where a tiny, overly worried snake sits looking up at a gigantic slug with sharp teeth that towers over him and his tomato plant—"I don't know how he's going to defend his crops this spring."
You blow a puff of air against the back of his neck, chuckling when he startles and slips the comic into the breast pocket of his pajamas.
"So you were listening after all," he teases, turning over his shoulder to find you splayed out across the bed, face buried in his pillows, arms outstretched like you're reaching for something. He wants to reach back. He wants this kind of view for the rest of his life, if only from afar.
You mumble something into the fluff and shriek when he grabs for your ankle.
"Can't hear all your whining through the bedding."
When you look at him, he thinks he could die. Your eyes sparkle in the dim and awfully warm lightning. If he's lucky, you'll brush off all of his feverish blushing as some sort of medical condition. But he's never been very lucky which is why he reaches for the back of his neck when you grin and roll over.
"I wasn't whining, I was saying—"
Light floods the room as the door flaps open to a few familiar faces that look like they've seen a ghost. You spring out of Neville's bed and gather your supplies. He feels a buzzing in his palms that begs him to beg you to stay. But it's against the rules. Even more so than your presence alone in the boys' dorms.
"I guess that's my cue to leave," you chirp, saluting to the quartet of boys shuffling through the doorway with wide eyes and shy smiles.
"Goodnight, Neville."
You kiss his cheek, patting his shoulder and flitting back through the door with one last wave. Neville sighs and tosses his almanac aside, swinging his legs off the side of the bed before he hears a chorus of high-pitched teasing:
"Goodnight, Neville! I love you, Neville!" Not to mention the kissing sounds and squeaky sighs from the group of Gryffindor imbeciles.
He would never admit it out loud, but even imagining you professing your love for him gives him butterflies. His heart races at the thought of your voice wrapped around the sweet words, your lips forming the dewy syllables just right. But he rolls his eyes and groans, settling across his mattress and forgetting the drawing in his pocket.
...
You'd been wandering around the boys' dormitories in your house sweater, humming the song that played in the pub down the road. Usually you invade Neville's space to study or catch up on tabloids, but tonight you're restless. His quill is flicking away at a sheet of classwork he forgot about until the last minute.
As you press your fingertips to each quilt stitch and dresser decoration, you notice a piece of metal gleaming at you from underneath his bed. A sharp corner protrudes from the edge; it belongs to a small brown leather chest buckled in brass and blooming with rust.
"What's this?" you coo, holding the chest across both of your palms, nudging his calf with your foot and grinning mischievously down at him. And he looks genuinely scared. Pale as a ghost and scrambling after you as you take off across the room with elated giggles and chirps.
"No—no! Give that back, it's personal!" he whines, panting as you bound over one of the beds and curl your arms around the box.
"What's yours is mine, Longbottom! Come on, whatever it is can't be that bad—"
He grabs the back of your sweater like the scruff of a puppy, dragging you backwards and knocking you off kilter. He nearly catches the chest with his hands, but you duck out of reach and jump onto his bed before he can get to you again.
"Tell me, what on Earth could Neville Longbottom be hiding—"
His heart stops when you flick open the latch and toss the lid wide. Then your smile falls.
You finger over the contents of the chest, scraps of parchment and ink fill it to its brim. They nearly spill over the edges when you plop down onto his mattress with the chest in your lap.
Your mouth opens and closes with revelation and awe. Each page is one of your spontaneously dorky animations. Spiky creatures and demon garden spawn and caricatures of Professor Snape litter the pile. They're all drawings you remember, each connects to a moment between the two of you.
Neville takes a deep breath and doesn't dare step closer, "It's not what it looks like—"
"You kept them?" you whisper, looking up at him in shock, "All of them?"
You're still flipping through the stack when he shrugs with a worrisome smile.
"...Yes."
You pause. You pause and take a sharp breath in because he's never sounded so sure in a word. You do a double take at one of the sketches. He sits on the edge of the bed, wringing his hands and glancing over at you anxiously.
"Neville"—and here it comes, he thinks, creepy, perverted, obsessive, and those sorts of things. And you wouldn't be wrong. But then he thinks he might be wrong. Because you set the box aside and spring toward him like a goddamn panther, landing him flat on the floor with a groan.
"That's adorable!
Your wet lips find his cheek and the rest of his face, hands wound into the collar of his sleep shirt as you leer down at him with a grin.
"I didn't think anyone paid attention to those stupid things."
"Well. I do," he huffs.
"I can see that, you sicko!" you shriek, "You better thank your lucky stars I'm so nice. Any other girl would've sent you right to Snape for being so perverted and creepy."
Called it.
"That's why I did it to you, not some other girl."
He doesn't know what to do with his hands, and you go shy thinking you might've crossed a line. Maybe you got too excited, flew too close to the sun, lips too close to his own. But the closeness had felt nice, and you want to make him blush like that forever.
"So you're saying it's not because I'm the prettiest girl at Hogwarts."
And you bat your lashes, pouting and leaving him weak in the knees. With your palms on his chest and you leaning closer, he's tempted to admit he's taken with you. To admit he's loved you since first year. To admit you are the prettiest girl at Hogwarts and in London and the rest of Europe. Forget the world, you're his.
"I never said that," Neville mumbles. It’s the closest he'll ever get to a real confession. At least this year.

“We’re almost there babe. Just ten more steps.” My stomach spins as I try to focus on his voice. I’m about to puke my guts out, but at least I won £20.
Five steps later we made it to the bus stop. I let go of Neville’s hand and hold on to the pole as I bend over to heave. Nothing is coming out. It’s like it evaporated. His hand rubs in circles on the middle of my back. My ponytail feels tight and I feel a migraine coming on. I stand up as the light on the sidewalk gets brighter. The automatic doors open and Neville holds my hand. I follow him up the stairs. I hear two beeps before he leads us deeper into the bus. There aren’t many people as it is 2 o’clock in the morning.
“Can I sit on your lap Nev?”
“Do you promise to behave?”
“Scouts honor.” I raise three fingers to show how serious I am.
“You were never in the scouts,” he laughs as he helps situate me on his lap.
The bus takes off suddenly and I accidentally hop on his lap. I hear a groan from behind me, but it’s not from pain.
“Sorry,” I squeak as I lean back against him. My skirt is splayed on his lap. The only barrier between us is his clothes and my underwear. The bumps on the road don’t seem to seem to cease. I rock against him with each one.
“Baby,” he warns.
“I can’t help it.” I defend.
But what if I can? I look around the bus and everybody is either asleep or too tired to pay attention to us. I slowly grind against him. His hands gravitate to my hips and stop me.
“Please, babe? I just want to play.” I turn to him with my big, doe eyes. He sighs as one of his arms reaches around my waist.
“We’re in public.”
“No one is paying attention to us.”
I scooch off of his crotch to his thighs. I reach behind me and slowly unzip his pants. I pull down on his briefs enough to let his cock free from the restraint.
“You know I’m not quiet when it comes to sex,” he whispers the last word.
“It’ll be okay. Just mark me whenever you feel like you’ll make too much noise.”
I pull my panties to the side and lift myself until I’m directly over his ever growing cock. My eyes do one last sweep to make sure no one is paying attention to us before I slip the tip inside of me. The bus hits a pothole and Neville accidentally slips all the way inside of me. I slap my hand over my mouth and Neville tucks his head into my neck. His teeth sink into the flesh and my grip around my mouth tightens. I look around and everyone else is still preoccupied in their own worlds. My walls become accustomed to his size and I trust myself to put my hand down. I lean against his chest. His hands lay on my stomach and I can practically feel his heartbeat on my back.
“Good boy.” I raise a hand and run my fingers through his hair to calm him.
I moan at the bruise that is now forming on my neck. I don’t even care about the rest of the people on the bus anymore. My arousal is becoming evident. I slightly shift my position and he slips deeper inside of me. I clench on reflex and I feel his teeth bite a little harder and a groan rises through his throat.
“It’s okay. We’re okay,” I coo to try to get him to loosen his grip.
“Sorry,” he whimpers. I tell him it’s okay and slowly grind my hips over him.
I can just barely hear the noises my slick makes when our skin rubs against each other. I raise my skirt up to see the mess. The milky white substance contrasts with my dark skin and I crave to see more of it. With this idea in mind, I lean forward on the seat in front of us and lightly bounce on him. My eyes squeeze shut and unintentionally hold my breath. His hands make a home on my hips. I slightly look back and see his eyes screwed shut in pleasure and I can tell he’s trying so hard not to make noise. His cock twitches inside of me which makes my walls constrict around him and my clit throbs. I look back forward and reach my hand down to rub my clit while speeding up my bounces. His tip is kissing my cervix. It’s getting harder to stave off my orgasm. He lightly taps my thigh and I lean back against his chest. The position makes me lose momentum, but he continues thrusting up inside of me.
“I think I’m going to cum.” *he hoarsely whimpers into my ear. I look down and lift my skirt to see the action. I notice the cream that covers his shaft. The sound it makes as our skin slaps against each other is lewd. The throbbing in my clit increases and I feel the band in my abdomen about to snap.
“Fuck it,” he says. His grip on my waist tightens as he ruts into me. His whimpers turn to moans. The melodic sound is right in my ear which triggers my orgasm. The cream washes off as my arousal soaks his dick and makes a pitter patter sound on the floor. My thighs are shaking and my body becomes overstimulated. A second later, ropes of his cum shoot into me. I squeeze my legs together and sigh with content. I feel completely sober as I relax into his arms.
“Do you think they heard that?” He asks. We both lowly laugh as I stand up. His cum drips out of my pussy and on to his softening cock. A “fuck” whispers out of his lips. I push more cum out of me and completely remove myself from his leg space. I lean down lick all of his cum off of him. I hear his head knock on the back of his seat and his thighs tremble.
“You’re evil.” He says with his eyes closed. He opens them as I swallow the rest of his cum.
“You love it.” A mischievous smile graces my lips as I think about what I’m going to do to him when we get home.

The rest of March passed by at an excruciating pace. True to his word, Harry had essentially isolated you from everyone you held dear. He glared at you in the corridors when you passed by and you felt the familiar gutting feeling of guilt every single time. Especially when Ron had finally been released from the Hospital Wing.
You found out that Ron was finally out through Neville Longbottom, who had asked if you'd spoken to Ron since he'd returned. He looked surprised by your confused face and told you that he would be officially out after lunch that day. Not even Hermione had come to find you, not that you were entirely surprised. You had made your way towards the ward with Pansy's elbow crooked in your own, for stability, when the trio and Ginny exited the double oak doors.
The look that Harry gave you was gutting, but the look of utter betrayal on Ron's face made your heart stutter in your chest.
"Ron-" you begin, but he cuts you off before you can even begin to explain yourself.
"Don't." he spat, voice raspy from sleep. "Harry told us what you obviously weren't ever going to."
You inhaled harshly, the arm looped with Pansy's tightening imperceptibly. "Let me explain, please."
"I don't want to hear any of your excuses, Meadow." the way he said your name was so foreign to you. "How could you fuck the enemy? Seriously, you know who his father is."
He's not his father! You wanted to scream; to shout to the rooftops. But words had evaded you. Tears filled your eyes immediately and you barely hear as Pansy shouts at him, no qualms for the fact that he had only recently recovered from being poisoned by her friends.
Hermione and Ginny barely spare the two of you a glance as they push the two pissed off boys away and down the corridor, the sound of Hermione defending you and chastising Ron for his cruelty is merely a whisper to you.
Pansy puts a hand on your forearm, thumb tracing soft circles. She breathes your name so delicately that you're surprised you even hear it. "Meadow? They're gone."
Your breath hitches minutely and your lip trembles as the tears that had been collecting in your eyes, finally fall.
"Oh, honey." she murmurs before pulling you into the tightest hug ever. "It's okay." she says over and over as she comforts you. "If they can't see how extraordinary you are, then they didn't deserve your friendship in the first place."
You only sob harder.
"Let's go to my dorm, yeah." she says. "Have a girl's day, just us two?"
You nod once and allow her to guide you down to the dungeons, both of you ignoring the circle of your friends in one corner of the Slytherin common room, who look at the two of your passing figures in bewilderment.
You spent a whole weekend with Pansy. But the hole in your chest never seemed to go away, no matter how much the two of you gossiped and laughed.
~∞~
True to his word, Mattheo tried to help in his own way, by providing ample distraction in the form of siphon training. He had told you that his friends were willing to help you, too. It was the least they could do, he had said. And thank Merlin that they were so willing.
You had finally mastered effectively drawing an adequate amount of power from random magical objects that Mattheo would spell, but you couldn't fight the dizzying feeling that overtook you each time you succeeded.
One day, he came to you in the library, Blaise in tow.
"Hi boys." you say with a small smile, but Mattheo could tell that you were hiding your emotions from them – Harry, Ron and Hermione were only sitting a few bookshelves away from you and you had never felt more alone.
"Hello, love." Mattheo mumbled as he pressed a featherlight kiss to your cheek, taking the seat beside you and tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear before his hand rested on the top of your thigh. He watched as your pretty eyes brightened almost instantly, but the faint sound of Ron's guffawing laughter made them dim as if the light had never been present in the first place. His hand squeezed your thigh affectionately.
Blaise took the seat opposite the two of you and having grown used to the two of you acting 'disgustingly coupley' over the course of the month, he didn't react to Mattheo's blatent concern. You noticed that he toyed with some sort of spherical object as he made himself comfortable.
"What's that, Blaise?" you ask, and he holds it up so you can see a transparent glass sphere that was barely the size of a golf ball. You tilt your head curiously.
"It's a conduit." he says, dark brown eyes tracing the smooth edges with precision. "When you siphon from anything with a form of magic imbedded within it, like the ground or a person, you can transfer it into this and it will hopefully take on the strain of the power, while also giving you access to it."
"So in simpler terms," Mattheo says, hand stroking up your thigh lightly, "you'll be able to do what you've been successfully practicing without worrying about passing out. In theory."
"What do you mean 'in theory'?" you ask, turning to Mattheo, who looks contemplatively at the conduit in Blaise's hand.
"Well there's no information about it helping a siphoner. Only that wizards use them to trap an extra bit of their magic in, just in case their magical core is compromised."
Like a horcrux. You thought to yourself, not noticing the way Mattheo imperceptibly tenses. He had a constant foothold in your mind, because it brought you comfort. But he could hear every one of your thoughts.
"So we – well actually Theo – thought that it would work in the same way." He hesitated to mention that Theo had had a hand in helping you. You still had not spoken to him. Not since you found out about his obvious involvement in poisoning Ron. You hadn't so much as uttered a word to him: not when you're in class and certainly not during patrols. "He just wants to help."
"Right." you hummed, "Well hopefully it does. I don't particularly feel like passing out today."
Blaise and Mattheo exchanged a look that you failed to miss. You huffed.
"Thank you Blaise." you say, and through gritted teeth, you ask him to thank Theo too.
~∞~
By the time April had come around, you had made peace with the fact that your friendships with the Golden trio and company were well and truly over. Your time was spent with the Slytherin group in their common room, instead. You wondered how you'd gone so long without fully knowing the whole group (you knew it was because you couldn't think of anything worse than jeopardising your existing friendships at the time of getting to know Theo and Pansy last year). Being around them filled a void that you didn't know existed in the depths of your very being.
Blaise shared your affinity towards muggle literature (he was currently reading the Great Gatsby and the two of you found immense joy when raving about eachother's annotations and perspectives).
Enzo was one of the funniest people you'd ever met and both of you enjoyed pissing Draco off to the maximum. He was also very sweet and caring under his nonchalant exterior but his wit was sharp as a knife – your twin snark was received abysmally from everyone else.
Draco was a little harder to get along with, considering the hatred he harboured for Harry, but he was, perhaps, the most sympathetic with you (besides Pansy, Theo and Mattheo) over your lost friendships.
These people were the only ones who did not outcast you, because they understood you – even your own housemates saw how you had become distanced from your old friends and they began to grow weary of who kept you company instead.
You were a group of pariahs, a wide berth always separating you from the rest of the student body.
You couldn't find it in yourself to care.
You finally talked to Theo and he apologised profusely for his part in Ron's hospitalisation, as did Enzo and even Draco. But like Mattheo, they seemed to find great difficulty in explaining themselves to you, clutching at where their hearts were as he spoke, as if it was trying to claw its way from each of their chests.
That's how you figured out the Unbreakable Vow that came hand in hand with the Dark Marks marring their left forearms. Mattheo, Theo, Enzo and Draco could not utter a word of what they were tasked to do, otherwise they would die a slow and painful death. It gave you even more incentive to get them out somehow. It would be difficult, but you'd never stop trying.
The conduit that Blaise had given to you, lay against your collarbone on a dainty chain of sterling silver, gifted by Pansy. It had developed whorls of varying shapes and sizes as you practiced siphoning day after day and you could feel the hum of power within it. It would only be released upon you shattering the glass. You were gaining control with each practiced session.
You were sat with Mattheo in a quiet corner of the Slytherin common room, focusing on a box of marbles that he had charmed individually for you to practice. The hum of your magic was faint, but the indigo glow was bright and pulsing as invisible hands sifted through the glassy orbs collecting the surges of magic with each stroke, reflecting rainbows of colour across your faces.
He had thought of this idea one evening while you laughed with Enzo at Draco's expense. He had been admiring the way your head tilted back as you heartily laughed, the way your hair cascaded over your shoulders and over his hoodie that you donned, how your eyes sparkled under the low light of the common room. He thought it was possibly the most ethereal sound he'd ever been blessed to hear.
Mattheo began with small objects. Putting a little bit of his magic into them for you to siphon out. Your magical cores mingled and danced around eachother every time you did so successfully and your conduit would glow with a symphony of colour before it would extinguish until the next time you channelled the combined power into it. He found you extraordinary.
He knew he was treading on dangerous waters. He should've never let this thing – this beautiful thing between the two of you – get as far as it had. He should not have been the cause for your broken friendships. But he couldn't help it. He was addicted to you in all senses of the word.
He couldn't get enough. And maybe that made him selfish. But everything he did in this life was for his friends, his family. So he wanted to be selfish, just this once.
Because Mattheo Riddle was in love with you.
You had integrated into his found family with ease. He protects his family. So he would protect you, too. You had lost your old friendships, but new ones had formed. Fresh, pure and innocent.
But war has a funny way of sullying the beautiful things in life. It's only a matter of time before it's ravenous claws ripped through his brief moment of peace.

Hey! I have an idea for a Remus x fem!reader. They volunteer to babysit Neville and Harry(both James, Lily and Frank, Alice are ok) and kids try to set them up, get them to play games like Reader being a princess who they have to rescue and Remus - the knight, who has to kiss her (smth like Sleeping Beauty).
true love’s kiss

Laughter filled the Potter household as James hoisted his son, Harry, and the Longbottom’s boy, Neville onto his shoulders. Harry threw his fists into the air, obviously used to his father’s antics. Neville gripped onto James’ arm and held on for his life.
“Potter and Longbottom have done it again! The quidditch cup goes to Gryffindor! The crowd goes wild,” he yells, bouncing up and down as if he were celebrating a big win from back in his quidditch days.
“Inside voice, James Potter,” Lily remarked, entering the room with her purse in hand and James’ coat thrown over her shoulder. He groaned and rolled his eyes playfully. “Fine.”
The boys giggled as James pretended to drop them and quietly mimicked the loud murmur of a crowd.
Lily plopped her stuff down on the table and turned to Alice, who was making sure Neville had everything he needed in his bag.
“Okay, I’ve got all my stuff, Frank is laying out the boys’ pajamas, James cast a protective spell on the house, I think we’re good to go!” She turned to look at the clock on the wall. “Remus should be here any minute now.”
“Uncle Moony!” Harry cheered, having overheard his mom’s conversation. “He’ll give us lots of chocolate. Just don’t tell my mom,” he informed Neville who nodded his head eagerly, pretending to zip his lips shut.
Alice turned to Lily with a confused look on her face as she queried, “You asked Remus to babysit?”
James walked towards the pair and grabbed his coat from Lily, kissing her cheek. “Well yeah Alice, leaving them with Sirius would be as good as leaving them alone.”
“It’s not that, I just thought I was supposed to find someone to watch them. Y/n is on her way.”
“Aunt Y/n!” both the young boys cheered. They couldn’t believe their luck at having two babysitters instead of one. Alice, on the other hand, was not as pleased with her mess up. She brought her hands up and covered her face as her cheeks flushed in embarrassment.
“Hey, it’s not a big deal. Two for the price of one,” James joked, slipping his coat on. He paused momentarily. “Except we’re not paying them, right?”
"We might have to pay Y/n if Remus loads them up with sugar," Frank chuckled, entering the room and throwing his arm around his wife’s shoulder.
“Maybe the boys can play matchmaker,” Lily raised her eyebrows and smirked. “Give them that little push they need.”
“The one they’ve needed since third year?” Alice adds. A knock at the door had everyone’s heads turning. James turned to walk toward the door, but the boys beat him to it.
“We’ll get it!” Neville exclaimed, racing Harry to the door. They opened it and you scooped them up immediately, playfully tickling them.
“How are my favorite boys in the whole world?” you asked, pinching their cheeks which earned a groan from both of them.
“You better not let Moony hear you say that. He might get jealous,” James teased. You rolled your eyes at James and set the boys down. You had just stepped foot in his house and he was already teasing you about your crush.
“Well it’s a good thing he’s not here, isn’t it?”
Lily and Frank looked at you apologetically, Frank sucking in through his teeth. James and Alice shared a similar expression of holding back laughter.
Your face dropped. “What did you do?”
James grabbed you and pulled you into the kitchen, Lily following suit. “So there may have been a wee bit of confusion on our part,” Lily starts to explain.
“No no no, this is a good thing!” James started, attempting to keep the situation strictly positive. He gripped your shoulders and looked into your eyes as if he was about to give you a pep talk. “You get to be alone with Remus for a whole afternoon. When was the last time you two were alone together?”
Lily was about to chime in that they would be watching his son, not alone, when there was a knock at the door.
“There’s your Moony,” James teased. He smoothed out your hair, jokingly making sure you looked good for Remus. He had known about your little crush since third year, but he still acted as if it were a big deal.
“You see him all the time Y/n. Just act like you always do around him,” Lily rubbed your shoulder comfortingly, then exited the kitchen to greet the second babysitter. You turned to follow her but stopped momentarily to punch James in the arm.
Lily opened the door for Remus who kissed her on the cheek. “Where’s the little tyke? Haven’t seen him all week,” he moved into the living room looking for Harry but was met with another familiar face.
He straightened up at the sight of you, his features softening slightly as a smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “I didn’t know you were fifth wheeling with these guys tonight,” he joked, butterflies filling his stomach as you laughed at him.
“I’m not. They’ve started a babysitters' club and were the only two members.”
Remus looked between the two couples who just shrugged at him.
“Do you four not communicate?” Remus scolded playfully. Hearing his voice, Harry ran into the room and jumped into his arms. Remus threw him in the air and you couldn’t help but smile.
“You’re lucky I like Remus,” you quipped. “Had it been someone else, I would’ve gone straight back out that door.”
James snuck a quick look at Remus and wiggled his eyebrows. He walked towards him and took Harry, all the while leaning in to whisper in his ear teasingly “She said she likes youuuu.”
Had James not been holding his son, Remus would have shoved him.
“I’m sorry you guys, I’ve just been so scatterbrained lately,” Lily apologized, kissing both of your cheeks in passing as she headed to the table to grab her purse.
You both reassured Lily that it was okay and both couples were ushered out of the door by their excited children.
“We love you, Harry, behave!”
“Mind your manners, Neville!”
The boys shut the door behind their parents and turned to each other. Neville winked at Harry in a way that looked a lot more like an exaggerated scrunch of his face. Harry nodded and scurried back into the living room, Neville a few steps behind him.
“Aunt Y/n, will you read to us?” Harry begged. Neville assisted by giving you the cutest pleading eyes you had ever seen. And although they looked adorable, you couldn’t help but think they were up to something.
You shot Remus a confused smile at the boy's behavior. He just shrugged his shoulders and chuckled. “Of course, she will. You boys go pick out a book.”
You giggled as they scurried away towards Harry’s room. You turned to Remus, who was already looking your way, a soft smile on his face. A blush ran up his face as he averted eye contact and rubbed the back of his neck.
“I can go make them a snack while you read,” he pointed his thumb over his shoulder in the direction of the kitchen. He wanted to stay and listen to your pretty voice, but he was discouraged at the idea of you catching him staring again.
“What? You don’t want to stay and hear me read the story they pick?” you pouted playfully.
Remus bit back a smile, pretending that he was having to think about it. On cue, the boys came running back in with their choice of book and settled on the couch beside you. They looked expectantly at Remus.
“Well, make room for me.” You met his eyes and smiled brightly at his statement. You grabbed the book from Harry’s little hands.
“Hmm, Sleeping Beauty. This is a very good pick.”
Harry and Neville snuggled into either side of you as you read. Remus observed the way you animatedly told the story. The way your lips moved with each word had him in a trance. It reminded him of how he used to sit in the library, hopelessly watching you study with a lovesick smile. He closed his eyes and imagined what it would be like if you read to him—just him.
Before he knew it, he was being shaken out of his trance by two eager little boys. The story was over and they needed something else to entertain them.
“Uncle Moony, will you please be the prince? Please please please?” Harry begged, holding his hands together in front of his face. Remus couldn’t help but scoff, seeing so much of his father in him. He looked at you for help as to what exactly they were asking him.
You giggle at the boys. “They want to play knights, Remus. They need a prince,” you playfully cleared up his confusion. He smiled at you and turned back to the boys.
“Oh, I see now,” he nodded his head in understanding. “And why do I have to be the prince?”
Harry and Neville shared a look as if the question was absurd. Remus could sense them growing impatient, so he stood up and allowed them to drag him away. He turned back to you and playfully mouthed ‘help’. You giggled and he couldn’t help the feeling of pride that came along with making you laugh.
Harry stopped and ran back towards you. He stood on his tiptoes and cupped his hand to the side of his mouth. You leaned down and craned your neck for him to whisper in your ear, a skill he hadn’t quite honed yet. “You’re the princess. Pretend to be in a deep sleep like Aurora.”
You pulled away and Remus held back a laugh as you wiped your ear. You mouthed an ‘OK’ and he ran back towards Remus to drag him away.
Once alone, you couldn’t help but ponder Remus’ question about having to be the prince. He was always like a prince to you. A blush creeps up your neck as you recall all the books you read about princes, and how you pictured them as Remus every time. The longer you thought about it, you realized that you pictured him as the love interest in every book you read.
You could hear them rustling around upstairs in Harry’s bedroom. You imagined how Remus looked playing along with them. How the sleeves of his sweater were pushed up. The way his eyes would crinkle as he laughed along with the boys. How soft his voice would get comforting them if they got hurt.
It got quiet for a moment, and you almost stood up to go check on them. Suddenly, there were three sets of footsteps running down the stairs. You quickly laid down and shut your eyes, trying to hold back a smile.
The ‘knights’ rushed in and kneeled at your side. Remus stayed back, standing in the doorway. His chest rose and fell in a soft sigh as he studied your ‘sleeping’ figure. He took advantage of the situation and allowed his eyes to linger. He noticed the corners of your mouth twitch and he felt his stomach do a flip.
Neville put his hand to your forehead to ‘check your pulse’, to which you could hear Remus softly blow air out of his nose. He moved from the doorway to kneel beside them whispering, “If only we had read a book that told us what to do to wake her up.”
“A kiss!” Neville exclaimed, earning a harsh shush from Harry. Neville giggled and whispered the same words again. Remus ruffled his hair and nodded down at the boy.
“That’s a good idea, Sir Neville. Try it and see if it works.”
You couldn’t help but smile at the soft voice Remus used with the boys. You always admired how the marauders played with Harry, but there was something extra special about the way Remus did it. He was so gentle and encouraging with them.
Neville began to lean in to kiss your cheek but was stopped by Harry’s small hand on his lips. He shot Neville a look that reminded Remus so much of the one Lily gave James when he says something stupid.
“True loves' kiss, Sir Neville! Remember?” he asked, the last word spoken through gritted teeth as if he was conveying something secret. Neville's face changed to one of understanding, before scooting over and making room. Harry turned to his beloved uncle Moony,
Remus’ eyes widened and his cheeks flushed immediately. His first thought was how much he wanted to, but his second was how much he couldn’t kiss you right now. Not while he’s playing pretend. This scenario had played out in his head over a thousand times and none of them involved children.
Remus shook his head and went to stand up, but Harry grabbed his hand. “But you’re the prince! You have to save the princess!”
You opened one eye and could visibly see how nervous poor Remus was. Since he had the boys’ attention, you took the opportunity to reach for his hand. He startled at the touch, then relaxed when your eyes met. You nodded at him softly as if to tell him it’s okay, just play along.
And you had meant that he could just pretend to kiss you. You figured he didn’t want to and was uncomfortable at the thought. That was not how Remus understood it. Remus took your actions as an okay to kiss you.
He blushed and squeezed between the two boys who were watching in anticipation. He leaned down so that his face was hovering over yours, and you felt his hair fall against your cheek.
Before you could start acting, you felt his lips graze the corner of your mouth. Your eyes snapped open as the younger boys both cheered. Remus pulled back suddenly and looked down at you horrified. Had you not wanted him to kiss you? You brought your hand up to touch the place his lips just had.
Before Remus could see your face break out into a smile, he abruptly stood. “Tell Y/n goodnight,” he stated, turning away from you and waiting. Both boys kissed your cheeks and followed Remus up to Harry’s room.
—————————————————————
Remus entered the kitchen to see you sitting on the counter drinking out of a mug. You offered him one, but she shook his head. He didn’t want it to throw him off the apology he had just rehearsed over and over.
“I’m so sorry Y/n,” he started, running a stressed hand through his hair. “I don’t know why I thought that was okay. I clearly misinterpreted what you meant and I hope you can forgive me.”
“Mus,” you called softly. He turned to you, making eye contact for the first time since the kiss. “Come here.”
He walked towards you slowly, as if he were a scared animal. The smile you gave him has the crease between his eyebrows relaxing. You motioned for him to come closer. He listened to you and slotted himself between your legs.
You slowly moved your hand to the back of his neck, lightly running your fingers through his hair—something you had wanted to do since you felt it against your cheek earlier. The other hand rested on his broad shoulder. He leaned down and placed his head in the crook of your neck to hide his blush.
“If I didn’t want you to kiss me, I would have stopped the game.”
You felt Remus nod against your neck, his eyelashes tickling your skin. He places his hands on your waist, rubbing his thumbs slowly against the fabric of your sweater. He retracted his head from your neck, choosing instead to lean against your forehead.
“Can I do it again?” he whispered shakily. You could feel his breath against your lips as he looked at you with pleading eyes. You bit your lip and nodded. His hands tightened on your waist as he eagerly crashed his lips against yours. You tugged on his soft strands and he groaned against your lips, pulling you flush against him.
He pulled away with a sigh, keeping his eyes closed and resting his forehead against yours. He started laughing and you were brought back to reality. Your face grew hot and you removed your hands from his hair.
“What?” you pulled back to get a better look at him. He opened his eyes and shook his head, unable to control his laughter.
“Remus, what?” you whined. He brought his hands up to cup your face and kissed you softly again. This kiss was much shorter, but you felt the same amount of butterflies in your stomach.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.”

"They kissed? Blimey, you exceeded my expectations kid," chuckled Sirius, handing Harry the new toy motorbike he had promised him for playing matchmaker.
“8 years. We tried to set them up for 8 years and my son does it in an afternoon.”
