Avatar Szeto to star in next Chronicles of the Avatar books?
(Art by Avatar News)
Avatar Szeto, the fire Avatar before Yangchen, Kuruk, Kyoshi, Roku, Aang, and Korra, could be the main character of the next Chronicles of the Avatar novels.
In a recent interview with Nerds of Color, Chronicles of the Avatar writer F. C. Yee said he doesn't know if he'll be writing more books after Kyoshi and Yangchen, but "if he had his choice of what Avatar to tackle next, he named Avatar Szeto as a possible candidate." 👀🔥
F. C. Yee introduced Avatar Szeto's backstory in the Kyoshi books, revealing that he was born in a time of crisis in the Fire Nation due to natural disasters, plagues, and clan conflict. Instead of using his divine position as Avatar to enforce his rule, he joined the Fire Nation government as an entry-level bureaucrat and worked his way up with no special privileges until he was an advisor to the Fire Lord-- that's why he has that vizier-like hat in the few glimpses of him we see in Aang and Korra's eras.
But as we all know, there's more to every Avatar than their legacy, and in the Yangchen books we learn that Szeto's life was secretly messy and "a library of intrigue in the realm of spycraft and trickery".
His name comes from the Chinese Han dynasty title 司徒 (Sītú) meaning "Minister over the Masses".

This is so exciting!
I'm not one to rush the year, but 2023 is too far away for my taste. I cannot wait.

It’s Still Not Cool to Be a Nerd
I have to get this off my chest because it’s been on my mind for a while and especially what happened to me tonight. I still don't believe that it's cool to be a geek now. If it is. It's at the most surface level. Everybody wants to be a nerd, but no one wants to be a nerd.
I just got off someone's live who I asked "how do you feel about cosplayers?" She said “it's cool like taking on a character like how celebrities do”, but then someone commented “when girls do it its fine, but men who do are geeks” and she was said I was going to say something mean, but “I’m just going to say if you’re a man who does it we’re not going to gel.”
That’s not the first time I’ve heard something like that recently either. Earlier this year I was in some line at a party behind a group of girls and one said she was into anime and I mentioned I was too and her friend said “watching anime is cool but once you start dressing up like the characters you doing too much.”
I’ve also gotten weird looks for listening to future funk and video game music in public, coworkers who watch Marvel movies, but get disinterested when I go into detail about the movies, and my brother changing the subject or walking away whenever I mention something nerdy. Nothing has really changed except some movies becoming popular and anime getting streetwear brands and being on streaming services. TCGs, manga, comics, novels, larping, cosplay, and gaming outside of the super big titles is still very niche. Being a geek still feels like a stigma and don’t get me started on how people in the community shit on each other about being nerds.

Kurvitz stresses that Kim doesn't actually have a character sheet hidden in Disco Elysium's code. Imagining that Lieutenant Kitsuragi has only one natural attribute point in Motorics helps the ZA/UM team to understand the depth of his character beyond what's referenced in the game's dialogue. "We just came up with this stuff for coherency," says Kurvitz. "And because we're nerds."
"I like to think Kim has a Thought Cabinet project called Revolutionary Aerostatic Brigades that he's worked on since he was a teenager," Kurvitz says. "This raises the learning caps for his Reaction Speed and Interfacing."
Kim's high Volition skill makes him impervious to prying, Kurvitz says, as the detective can find out on occasions being met with Kim's brick-wall resolve. Kim often chastises these whims of the detective's, but will occasionally play along. The Lieutenant finds his new partner funny, says Kurvitz.
Kim is naturally shit at Motorics and thinks Harry is funny source
