A question I've been dwelling on recently: the Egoist Four each have two goals apiece in the Neo Egoist League.

Bachira had his Bee Shot, and also scored FC Barcha's sole goal against Ubers.

Kunigami scored the last goal against Barcha, and BM's second goal against Manshine, threatening to break the net each time.

Chigiri got to show off his 44° Panther Snipe against BM, and also managed to score against PXG. (Someday Episode Nagi will show us how he did it!)

Slow to start, but Isagi is now level with his buddies, following his two goals against Ubers.

While Isagi is undoubtedly the star of the bunch, the other three are important companions of his. Narratively, they've followed and kept up with him through every arc shh blame Ego for making Kunigami for missing the U20 match

They're his friendliest rivals. But I'm so curious about how they'll all fare at the end of the NEL.

Isagi has to score against PXG... if not twice, then certainly once.

So too has Kunigami, if they don't completely fumble his character development in favour of Isagi, Kaiser and Rin (the outcome I fear).

Chigiri and Bachira have two matches each to play. It's almost a given that they'll each score at least once. Besides that, Bachira doesn't have a rival striker on FC Barcha, unless Otoya decides to up his game.

So, what will the outcome look like?

Isagi: 3 goals? He could hit 4 if he humiliates both Rin and Kaiser to beat PXG. He's also got three assists to his name.

Kunigami: 3 goals. Please. It's all I want for him as a player. I'll be so cross if he doesn't score against PXG.

Barchira: 4 goals...? 5 goals...? Best case scenario... 6 goals? Cos Barcha ain't beating Manshine or PXG, let's be real.

Chigiri: 4 goals, one each against Ubers and Barcha. The number 4 is a recurring motif for him. Besides that, the dramedy that is the Nagireo show means our princess is unlikely to do more. But that's still better than Yukimiya or Kunigami... or possibly Kaiser.

Either way, Isagi will come out on top. But I sincerely hope he's closely followed by his three Team Z companions.

Our Skyy 2 x Bad Buddy X A Tale of Thousand Stars Ep 4 (Finale) Stray Thoughts

Yesterday, we transitioned into the A Tale of Thousand Stars portion of this crossover, and the mood shifted to match. There’s been a lot of consternation about the episode, and whether it represents a weak outing from Aof and friends. I have decided that it doesn’t matter for me, because it mostly worked for me. I understood the intention of having these characters get lost in the woods repeatedly no matter who they were with. I’ll have more to say this weekend, I’m sure.

Not these two coming for my man Phupha’s back during their roleplay!

I’m glad Pat and Pran got to have a cute montage before they left.

We will finally be free of the Our Skyy 2 theme.

I like that Pran made a friend out of Tian on this trip. Pran has so few friends, and I’m glad he was able to make one on his own.

Pat, please never stop terrorizing Phupha.

Unsurprised that Tian broke first on the apology, but glad to see Phupha getting flirty.

You just knew he was going to sign. I’m not even worried about the conditions. He wouldn’t be himself if he didn’t force you to meet him where he is.

Phupha and his surprises. I’m okay with it for today, but I hope his next step is being more forthright.

I love that Tian’s parents led the conversation for Phupha. He needed their approval, but respects them too much to ask for it.

His errand was a ring for a proposal. I forgive him for everything.

“We finally have a thousand stars now.” Okay, gonna lie down and cry. I don’t know what it was, but something old in me just snapped.

I really like Mix and Earth as a pair. They play their dynamic differently with each couple. Tian and Jim kiss differently than Wen and Jim.

Yes, give us the same unhinged outro that Pat and Pran gave us in episode 12.

Final Verdict: 10, Highly Recommended (Primarily for Gay Reasons). I understand a lot of the complicated feelings everyone has about Pat and Pran, but I personally loved all of this. I respect Aof telling something mildly dissatisfying with Pat and Pran, because that is honestly at the core of their dynamic. They are constantly subject to outside influences that make it difficult for them to be happy the way they want to be, and that is most evident in Pran. I really liked them crossing over to meet Tian and Phupha, because we got to see both couples really face who they are.

Part of the big difference here is that we are still seeing Pat and Pran in the middle of their story, and Pran especially still has things he needs to sort. With Tian and Phupha, we’re seeing them after their show ended. We’re seeing them face themselves with the help of the Chaos Gays that showed up on their doorstep. As a result, everyone got to see themselves differently, and we the audience got some of what we needed from both shows.

For me, I just love that both of these couples are “in repair” and are trying to be present for each other. Like Uncles Cheep and Dej said, once the infatuation fades, it’s about trust and commitment. I like that we walked away from this with me feeling like that’s the goal for both of them.

anyway i had a yuri light novel concept involving Vtubers and net culture--- one of my many yuri romcom concepts actually. i have a lot of romcom lesbian OC brainrot for a while and i guess i'll just reveal it one by one here a little because having it on my head only kind of sucks after a while but i'm not ready to write everything yet. and tumblr is probably my safe place to do this while making it a lot more searchable with tags

setting / chara names are Japanese bcos I'm a weeb who does feel comfortable writing it more like that. but i'd like to take notes from indie Vtuber communities internationally so pls do not mind it much!

This one's temporarily called Offcam-Collab. There are slight cw on mentions of children exploitation and neglect due to the basic concept of the protagonist.

Plot:

The introvert Iino Mieru is an unfortunate girl who is a victim of an exploitative family vlogging since young age. While her siblings thrive and survived and gained fame and strength on their own, she grew even more introverted with the infamy. Everyone knows her embarrassing childhood stories even long after her careless parents stopped as they got caught by the police due to a case of neglect and child exploitation.

In college age, she now lives with her siblings as a leeching NEET--- though she made money being on Youtube by doing clips and video edits for Vtubers.

Worried about her future, her brother Neo and twin sister Meiru decided to reconnect with one of her only childhood friends to the house; Shiina Kiyoko aka Kii-chan upon finding her in the same college Meiru was in. They invited her to their house without telling her at first.

Unknown to her siblings though; Mieru aka Mii-chan had a crush on Kii-chan back in the days-- she was her first love. They had an awkward reunion at first and Mieru had a gay panic, but as she learned that Kii-chan is still the same as before they were separated, Mieru wanted to take a step forward, too....

Well, it came to some form immediately. Due to an accident in her room, Kiyoko learned that Mieru was doing a clip for a popular Vtuber on her PC. Kiyoko revealed that it was her dream to be a Vtuber idol of a certain big agency.... but she had no portofolio at all and didn't know where to start.

Mieru, realizing that Kii-chan deserves to shine as bright as a star more than she wanted to be her lover, decided to help her in her dream with her knowledge of content creation that her parents had been using out of her in the past.

Thus started Mii-chan's journey as the shadow, nameless producer of an indie Vtuber project, Kagerou Shiori-- aiming to be 'reincarnated' in her dream agency.

....It's a romcom, but I have a lot of ideas for drama too.

Recent Reading and Watching

This is How You Lose the Time War surprised me with the identity of the Seeker; mid-book I thought there might be another operative tailing them, or a Purple child, or a third side to this war. That last prediction was quite close!

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - Bande Dessinee Episode: 0 wasn't particularly thrilling, but I value it because it fills out the characters of Full Frontal and Angelo Sauper, and how the Zeonist public sees things before the initiation of the Third Neo Zeon War, aka The Laplace Incident.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been good through season 7; I ned to track down season 8 to see if they later appearance of Ashoka in Star Wars Rebels makes any sense.

Legend of Galactic Heroes: I have finally finished this. RIP to a legend, but we all knew that the death flag for the last person to die was waved at the end of the third season. Rubinsky's end was also fitting: reflecting of how he was no longer part of the plot, he was also no longer part of politics. His last gasp felt irrelevant, and really was.

Pacific Rim: The Black is a 3dcg film that's reminiscent of RWBY and Dragon Prince in style, but with the same Ramin Djiwadi soundtrack, and some neat twists that really delve into the fridge horror of the setting. But this is a kids' show, so there's little blood, the decapitations happen out of frame, and the heads don't roll too far. Episode 7 has a nice "it's dangerous to go alone; take this" moment.

Computing

A 2.1A powerbank is not enough to stably power a Pi 1 B+ with a 4.0" square Hyperpixel Touch display and a wireless keyboard. Big Sad. Next question is if a PiSugar 3 battery controller will work with a Pi 1 B+ or if I should splurge $75 on a Pi 4 for this device.

I'd like to have a mobile compute terminal that's smaller than a 13" laptop, but still has USB ports. Scrollwheel and a button to toggle the OSK would also be nice.

Primary nonwork laptop's keyboard continues to degrade; It's becoming a desk item. Its degradation is the primary driver of the new palmtop development.

Actually, wait, I have a spare CM4 from a StereoPi 2 device. I could use that, with a compatible breakout board maybe. Or I could test the Hyperpixel screen on the Stereopi board directly. Then I'd have a 4" touchscreen mated to a … 5" wide board? Well, it'll at least let me test some things, like whether the CM4 works for this use case. Bonus dual cameras is a questionable bonus.

Crafting

KInda burnt out on crafting, tbh. Last two weeks were full of crunch before Pemmi-Con/NASFiC, which netted me a "Judge's Choice in Novice Class" award and "Best Use of Modern Tech" in the Masquerade competition.

Next up, over @glowingskull, I plan to post rundowns of the stuff I made, and maybe some shapefiles, but there's a lot of work left in this costume and I plan to redo large parts of the headgear.

Because, let's be honest, the post-con todo list for that costume is basically:

Write up the project

Print off a holder for these parts, because I'm retiring them to mount on the wall

Redesign snout, again, to remove grilles and double-thicken all the parts

I think my next costume goal, after the revised Turaga Vakama, will be an Earth Federation Space Forces officer uniform, so I can give the planned "WTF is Zeon" lectures in character.

The next head goal will be a Deinonychus head with articulated jaw, which requires advancements in augmented reality. Need to get the StereoPi working, or ditch/sell it and switch to paired NVG monocles.

I think it's time for Pacific Rim soundtracks. Pacific Rim: The Black sounds somewhere between the Pacific Rim movies' soundtracks and the tense violin work from the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie with RDJ and Jude Law, soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. Not particularly Australian, unfortunately.

Quick plays of a bunch of Neo Geo Pocket and Neo Geo Pocket Color games in Mednafen!

Kikou Seiki Unitron JP-only RPG sequel by SNK 2nd party Yumekobo. My old notes say this came bundled with a Japanese "slim" NGPC I wanted, that I had only played the first game, Biomotor Unitron, very briefly, and that I wasn't impressed with the "Pokemonesque" gameplay here, greatly preferring the likes of Card Fighter's Clash. That will probably still be the case. Nice presentation though. Translation patch from romhacking.net only does 1st few minutes of intro, and menus. Could be a decent RPG.

Neo Turf Masters Saurus' (SNK 2nd party?) version of Nazca's Neo Geo golf game. Doesn't have RPG stuff like Mario Golf but I was getting into the actual golf part. Some wild course stuff like being atop a huge waterfall. Can't save mid-course in-game? Emulator solves that I suppose. Want to play this more. Waitasec, I have MVS/AES version from the Humble Bundle NEOGEO collection. Well now I gotta try that (I think I thought at some point MVS/AES ver had flashing FX? Not seeing them at the moment).

The King of Fighters: Battle de Paradise Your avatar hops around a board triggering King of Fighters-themed button mash minigames, most of which aren't very fun. (There's a pretty fun hidden game if you put the cart in a b&w NGP, haven't done that yet, need to use an older emulator.)

Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams Amusingly drawn cutscenes with a silly young witch; boring horizontal shooting.

Faselei! Rather lovely solo mech tactical strategy by Sacnoth. "Program" your mech's next series of moves by socketing action-specific, upgradeable "chips," then watch them play out alongside the enemy's moves. Lush presentation.

Neo 21 The card game in slightly jank graphics.

NeoGeo Cup '98 Plus Initial, b&w version of…

NeoGeo Cup '98 Plus Color Kinda cute national team tournament soccer w/ absurd clothing stat-boost items to collect (don't get too attached--thieves will steal them). Gameplay's a bit maddening as it seems nearly impossible to pass to your CPU teammates, who a) are usually offscreen and b) always seem to run the other way than you'd expected; meanwhile, the CPU always has 2-3 players right on you. Back in the day I found a spot to shoot from pretty far out and to the side that goalies couldn't block; darned if I remember where it was. ; )

Dynamite Slugger Seems like a pretty good baseball game by ADK and I am terrible at them, specifically here the very streamlined pitching, and the fielding where I always press the wrong base button to throw to. Not as flash-screen heavy as the "Baseball Stars" games (Saurus did the NGPC version of those), but there is a strobing effect for a home run. : P Nice graphics. Maybe some day I'll have an inning where I hold the CPU scoreless…

Pocket Tennis Earlier, more challenging version with fewer characters and less animation--more challenging because serving is touchier and your character has a shorter reach. : P

Pocket Tennis Color By Yumekobo. Movement feels good until you try to coordinate it with hitting the ball, at which point I encounter mysterious whiffs, dives that take me away from the ball, and hits that often don't go in the direction I wanted. Feels more like ping pong than tennis a lot of the time. Some weird courts with hard-to-read nets. : P My old notes point out that the CPU doesn't move on defense, so you just hit it past them.

Of these, the games I have marked to come back to are Neo Turf Masters (the MVS one, at least, and possibly this one to compare), KOF:BdP for the b&w hidden game, and Dynamite Slugger.

Cygnus, with the essence of Amphidamas within her, stood as the final bastion against this digital maw.

As the Leviathan’s drones descended upon the city, Cygnus engaged them in a ballet of light and electricity, her movements orchestrated by the tactical genius of her ancient mentor. Her armor, infused with nanotech, shapeshifted to counter each attack, becoming blade, shield, and net in the span of a heartbeat.

The people watched, some from the safety of their homes, others from the chaos of the streets, as Cygnus danced with death, her laughter ringing out amidst the symphony of war. It was not a sound of madness, but of defiance, a testament to the human spirit that refused to be extinguished even in a body of wires and steel.
