Floyd's Nickname Analysis
Tumblr media
We all know that they can be correlated to how they look or act, but what if they were also actions or personality traits that each person has?
Riddle- "goldfish" or "kingyo"
He's red (Trigger for Floyd). He feels bad that Riddle is trapped in a "fishbowl" and hopes for him to explore the ocean. Can get violent, unlike what he seems (goldfish eat other fish; they can be at the top of the food chain depending on what fish you consider)
Ace- "crab" or "kani"
He's spiky and red (hair and personality-wise). Eels eat them; they are great prey for them (like in the 3rd arc, with the contracts)
Deuce- "mackerel" or "saba"
Mackerels are called "blue-backed fish", which spoil easily (In Japanese it can be translated to "Fast legs". Mixed with his track/field club). In France, I think, April Fools can be called April Fish day. Mackerels can be caught a lot in April. He is kind of... Stupid (Fool)
Cater- "snapper" or "hanadai" (This is from the wiki, which is correct, but I'll explain why I can't translate this correctly)
I can't translate his name because there isn't an actual fish; there are tons of fish that are called hanadai (just to name a few; akaobihanadai, sujihanadai, nagahanadai), kind of like a sub-family (different personalities). He is the only one so far who has a more vague nickname.The ones I think about have a tall nose, which reminds me of Pinocchio, whose nose gets taller the more they lie. They are pretty though.
Some of them are called “sea goldies” (a clue about how he could have been ex-dorm leader)
They eat shrimp... Maybe one day he'll hurt us
Trey- "sea turtle" or "umi kame"
They're smart, and they can also go on land (Secret?). He's the father of Hearts, and turtles and Disney remind me of a certain sea turtle in the Nemo series. And I think turtles are smart (glasses maybe?)
Leona- "Todo" or "Sea Lion"
As it's called, he is a lion. Sea lions can go on land... I wonder if he knows something outside of the ocean (Twisted Wonderland)..? Reminds me of Grim in a way.
Ruggie- "sharksucker" or "kobanzame"
He's always with Leona, like them with sharks. They eat scraps, and look out for a chance to strike, like for food.
Jack- "sea urchin" or "uni"
He's spikey with his hair. He's different than he appears; Sea urchins look inedible, but they are rich and creamy. I mean rich as with knowledge and mild as in personality in his case. And he is from the north, where I think good sea urchins are harvested. I wonder if the orange has anything to do with his dorm color. I can't say this for sure, but rich as in money.
Jamil- "sea snake" or "umihebi"
He's a snake. And like one, he is pretty, but with poison. I wonder if Floyd knows about the snakes' hint in the mirror. Anyways, I think Floyd thinks Jamil is similar to Jade (Sea snakes can be mistaken for eels sometimes)
Kalim- "Sea Otter" or "Rakko"
I wonder if his hair was brown, and not white... They are gourmets and can't eat without their favorite rock (Jamil). And he is hunted down because he is rich... (Sea otters were hunted down for their pellets). The turban reminds me of the seaweed they wrap around.
Epel- "guppy"
Not good with bettas, and loose to them. They are sensitive with temperature; Epel get heated up sometimes and is usually cool (faking his personality)
Vil: "Betta"
They get tired after flaring too much (overblot; with the issue with Neige). Really pretty, and aggressive. Not good with mirrors because of this (Mira with Vil)
Rook: "black-tailed gull" or "umineko"
He's in the sky, compared to the ocean. They can get wild and fast when they want. He's also a hunter (they hunt fish). He also has cat eyes. (they are literally called sea cats in japanese)
Idia- "firefly squid" or "hotaruika"
They glow like his hair. That's all I can say as for now
Ortho- "sea angel" or "clione"
He is an angle, but they can change rapidly with their looks to be quite... terrifying.
Malleus- "Nudibranch" or "Umiushi"
He's kind of cute with his personality, actually, he's more fluffy than cute though. They have something that looks like 2 horns.
Lilia- "flapjack octopus" or "mendako"
Like Azul, he is strong, unlike his looks. His hair reminds me of a flapjack octopus.
Silver:"jellyfish" or "kurage"
They're usually kind of white. They can hurt a lot when they attack. Unlike the people in his dorm, he is human so his life expectancy is short compared to them.
Sebek- "crocodile" or "wani"
Probably a reference to Sobek, the Egyptian god. He does remind us of a crocodile/alligator; he eats a lot, his phase in battle, etc.
The ones he adds -kun to (Cater, Jamil, Rook, Sam, and Trey) are a bit... troublesome in some way. I think Floyd sees Twisted Wonderland as the Ocean if you couldn't tell, so if they can go on land, they either know something or correlated in some way to MC/the lands beyond it.
~~~~
I was told to bring this post back by someone... But this is how I think
But Floyd is a lot more observant than most ppl think, and I will post something about that soon
"A firestone forged in flames The wildest card, run the game, run the game Can't stay the same in this world of change Don't fear the pain, just break the chain Lookin' out, she calls "Lai, la-da-di-dai-da Who will conquer all, all?"
Her name is She, Queen of the Kings, runnin' so fast, beatin' the wind (hey) Nothin' in this world can stop the spread of her wings She, Queen of the Kings, broken her cage, threw out the keys (hey) She will be the warrior of North and Southern Seas"
"Queen of Kings" - Alessandra Mele
afternoon afternoon!
I managed to find some wifi earlier this morning, and decided to upload this artwork that I managed to finish during my "forced" leave of absence.
I have been working a lot on Dorothea in the past few days, because I honestly missed my Victorian Queen 🌹💓 (I had a bit of a rough few days, mental health-wise, and my Queen is my go-to find some dopamine lolol)
I am quite happy to finally finalize her Grand Master look (one heck of upgrade from her old design, tho I still very much love the old version as well), because this side of Dottie is one that I don't speak enough about, and I truly need to.
Well, I hope you will like it, and I hope I will be able to share soon more artworks (please cross your fingers that my whole wifi situation get solved soon, thank you <3).
Be safe everyone!
Daughter of the Sea (OP AU) - Each sea has a 'daughter' but they are all children of Mother Sea.
Tumblr media
The daughters are somewhat based on the elemental directions;
Nemo (Tempest) is the East Blue so she's air.
Fissure (Fizz) is the South Blue, so fire, and she's based on hydrothermal vents.
Maelstrom (Mel) is the West Blue which is water.
Glacier is the North Blue, and even though the north element is earth, because she's the sea her thing is ice.
They all have white hair and eyes; Glacier is snow and ice, Fissure is a carbon dioxide based thermal vent as opposed to a sulphur one (which would be black,) Maelstrom's hair is like the crashing waves, and then Nemo is the wind.
The spirit of Tempest returns to her mother, and Nemo takes her place, and she doesn't understand who or what she is anymore.
Tumblr media
'Rescued' from the shores of a deserted island where the Big Top docks for a time (because she doesn't know the water cant keep her there,) and she joins the crew. She discovers that she likes painting, so she does that, along with other menial stuff, like cleaning, and is constantly fighting the urge to throw herself into the sea.
At some point when they're in calm shallow waters, she is allowed to dive into the sea, and through some shenanigans she learns she can't drown. Buggy takes advantage of this by appointing her as his treasure hunter where she dives for all the treasure on the sea floor, like he had originally planned to do before eating the devil fruit.
On one outing, she was diving near a nest of some kind of sea beast, and they naturally like her because she is the sea, so it was a lot of fun! A group of pirate upstarts thought she was an easy target, and while Nathan was acting as a sort of navigator for them; he was only there because they were his way off his home island.
Long story short, the crew out in the open get mauled, and Nathan (the only one who wasn't out on the deck) joins Nemo. He refuses to be a pirate because he doesn't mesh morally with it, and he just wants to see the world, so he claims Nemo as his captain (in a crew of 2 lol) and helps navigate the sea so she isn't going just off of a feeling, and whatever vague rumours or map she can't understand that Buggy gave her. When she's diving he minds the boat.
The whole premise with Nemo and Buggy is that he has somehow failed upwards once again with an aspect of the very sea that rejects him as a devil fruit user now embraces him.
Does Brittania Rule the waves in TPOGAF
Absolutely Not.
Far and away the largest amount of ocean controlled by a unified political body is the 3/4ths of the Pacific controlled by Nihofornia's Immediate neighbor, The Republic of Moana*, sometimes called the Kingdom of Oceania, especially in dated public school textbooks. The republic is a constitutional monarchy, which elects a new "monarch" every 10 years or Sooner if the ruling monarch starts falling down on the job. Currently, it is ruled by King Kamehameha the IIVth, who is just starting his second term as Monarch.
*"Moana" means "Ocean". The Disney character's name is "Ocean". :/
The actual size of Moana is up for debate, because while the political borders extend over 8,000 miles from Rapanui (Formerly Easter Island) in the east to Palau in the west, and over 5,000 from the Hawaiian Islands in the north and Definitely as far south as Aoteroa (formerly New Zealand), including the entire South Pacific Triangle centered on Point Nemo, 15 time zones, the equator, and the international date line; some critics (read: whiny babies) try to argue that only the actual landmass counts. Anyone who has tried shipping or moving through Moana will tell you that the ocean ABSOLUTELY counts.
The "Definitely" part refers to the fact that the republic is still growing- After WW3, Moana's borders extended well into what had previously been Melanesia and Micronesia, and into the Coral and Tasman Seas. Currently, there are petitions going around and the beginnings of Legal proceedings for the independent nation of Tasmania to join the Republic, as well as claims on shipping routes that cut through the international waters close to Antartica, which has set the international courts into pearl-clutching mania.
Even more controversial was the not-entirely-joking motion King Kamehamea filed last year that suggested that, as the Republic is extremely large and important in terms of population, land mass (even by the smallest measure), economics and culture, that it was just plain silly that the international date line ran through his country, and that it should be moved to somewhere less populated, like the middle of the Atlantic, or perhaps some small island nation nobody cares about :)
MR TORGUE, HAVE YOU BLOWN UP THE OCEAN YET?? (I dunno who's behind this blog, but, mod? You're awesome!)
TINA SAYS I BLEW UP THE OCEAN IN HER GAME, WHICH IN TURN BLEW MY MIND!!
BUT LET ME BE CRYSTAL F*CKING CLEAR ABOUT THIS:
SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT DREAMS AND AMBITIONS ARE MEANT TO BE METAPHORS FOR SELF-IMPROVEMENT, DRIVING US EVER FORWARD TO A PERPETUAL NORTH STAR WHILE WE REACH HIGHER AND FURTHER. THEY SAID THAT WANTING SOMETHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ACCOMPLISHING IT, AND THAT WE SHOULD WORRY ABOUT THE JOURNEY MORE THAN THE DESTINATION.
AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW WITHOUT ANY DOUBT IN YOUR MIND THAT MISTER TORGUE FLEXINGTON IS NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE
I WILL LITERALLY CREATE A BOMB BIG ENOUGH TO BLOW UP THE ENTIRE G*DDAMNED OCEAN AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF ITS SECRETS. THIS IS A VENDETTA AGAINST SHARKS, OCTOPI, AND THE BARRACUDA THAT KILLED NEMO'S MOM.
BET ON IT
The frigid air is endless down here in the land of ocean and icebergs. The heavy gray clouds make it difficult to distinguish between night and day, while the whipping winds stir mountainous waves that crash overboard like an angry leviathan emerging from the depths below.
It’s here, in perhaps the most isolated spot on earth, where we find Dee Caffari, one of the most accomplished sailors of her era. She is alone, captaining her boat through the hostile waters of the Southern Ocean in a spot known as Point Nemo. The name is most certainly fitting. In Latin, Nemo translates into “no one.” And down here, the closest human you’ll find flies some 250 miles overhead in the International Space Station. The closest person on earth, well, they’re some 1,700 miles away in any direction — maybe to the north in the rugged cliffs of the Pitcairn Islands, or on the rocky terrain of Maher Island off Antarctica to the south, or perhaps on the volcanic mountain of Motu Niu of the Easter Islands to the northeast.
Alice's Wonderland (1923 short)
One hundred years ago today, Walt Disney screened to Margaret Winkler his hybrid animated/live-action short film, Alice’s Wonderland. If the name Margaret Winkler is unfamiliar to you, that is in part due to the fact that much of Hollywood’s mythmaking has obfuscated the impact of certain female creatives during the silent film era. A former secretary to Harry Warner at Warner Bros., Winkler was the premier animated short film executive in the early and mid-1920s. Her company, M.J. Winkler Pictures, flourished at a time before the oligopoly of the soon-to-be-major Hollywood studios, mostly on the backs of Pat Sullivan and Otto Messmer’s Felix the Cat series. At the peak of Felix’s popularity in 1923, a series of arguments between Winkler and Sullivan/Messmer soon meant Winkler was looking for an animated series to replace Felix. She would also be losing the rights to Max and Dave Fleischer’s Out of the Inkwell series, starring Koko the Clown. By the end of 1923, Winkler would sign a deal with Disney to distribute the Alice Comedies.
Impressed by the handiwork of Alice’s Wonderland, Winkler’s deal gave Walt Disney a much-needed infusion of cash. Disney, who founded Laugh-O-Gram Studios in Kansas City, Missouri in 1921, had just barely emerged from Laugh-O-Gram’s bankruptcy. Instead of heading to the then-center of the American animation world of New York City, Walt instead found himself in Los Angeles, partly to help his brother, Roy O. Disney, recover from tuberculosis.
Though a continent away from the major animation players in the U.S. at the time, Disney nevertheless took inspiration from those figures – Bray Productions under John Randolph Bray and especially the animator Winsor McCay (who, by 1921, was forced by employer William Randolph Hearst to stop working on animated film). McCay and Bray were pioneers in gifting animated characters basic personalities and the development of those personalities, growing animated cinema beyond modest gag comedy and simplistic figures. McCay’s Little Nemo (1911) and Gertie the Dinosaur (1914) and Bray’s Bobby Bumps series (1915-1925) may seem quaint to modern audiences, but these films were wildly popular across North America and were instrumental stepping stones to the explosion of American animated innovation in the late 1920s and 1930s.
Alice’s Wonderland was never screened for the public, but it nevertheless spawned a series that lasted for fifty-seven short films. None of it would have been possible without the inspiration Disney and his animators took from the most acclaimed American animation at that time.
With no relation to Lewis Carroll’s two Alice books, Alice’s Wonderland stars Virginia Davis as the title character. Davis, as Alice, is four years old at the beginning of the Alice Comedies series. She visits the animation studio where she sees Walt Disney in the process of drawing some “funnies”. As she sits down, the cartoons on the drawing pages come to life. Most important among those animated figures is Julius the Cat, created by Disney and Ub Iwerks and a predecessor to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse (unlike Oswald and Mickey, Julius has not appeared in an animated film since the silent era). Walt then brings Alice into the animators’ room, where Ub Iwerks, Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising, and others are also enjoying their work acting out various scenarios (remember those names – we will mention them again later). Alice, still giddy after her visit to the animators’ studio, later drifts off to sleep that evening. And, after dozing off, she finds herself welcome to a Cartoonland of her dreams.
At the time, Alice’s Wonderland was the reverse of what the Fleischers’ Out of the Inkwell series and some of the Bray and McCay shorts attempted. Instead of animated characters inhabiting a live-action world, we have here a live character traipsing around in an animated world. In some of the hybrid animated/live-action short films at the time, the reactions of the characters can be noticeably off. Not so much here. Davis’ reactions to the animated animals are timed with admirable precision. But given the technological constraints at the time and how small Walt Disney’s animators’ team was, Alice’s Wonderland makes heavy use of recycled or looped animation. Viewers who know their Looney Tunes or Hanna-Barbera works probably recognize the effects of a wraparound background and identical walking animation. The effects tend to make certain scenes – such as Alice’s celebratory procession during her dream – last several seconds too long.
youtube
Yet, Alice’s Wonderland still charms. With synchronized sound still four years away, the animators of the early twentieth century set the visual slapstick language that continues to course through modern animated cinema. Julius’ hidden fight with a dog within the latter’s doghouse, an animator using a pen holder as a de facto boxing bell, and a hungry lion cleaning and sharpening his teeth are just previews to the absurd humor that will define the next few decades of American animated short films. So too the tubular limbs from the animated characters. The film’s humor came not just from the films of Bray, McCay, and the Van Beuren Studios, but also the comic strips popular at this time – titles which probably read as quite unfamiliar to most today: Bud Fisher’s Mutt and Jeff (1907-1983; Fisher ceased involvement in 1932), George Herriman’s Krazy Kat (1913-1944), and Winsor McCay’s Dream of the Rarebit Fiend (1904-1925). These comic strips, largely unknown quantities to yours truly while researching for this write-up, influenced the comedic pace and tone for the bulk of American animated short films – a near-forgotten legacy, and one worthy of honoring.
Alice’s Wonderland would solidify the careers of all of the animators involved – all of whom were originally based in the Kansas City area. Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks stayed onboard what would be deemed the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio (after several name changes, it is now the Walt Disney Animation Studios of today). Disney’s namesake studio is the most visible animated studio in all of cinema, and undoubtedly the most historically and currently significant, for good and ill. For the Alice Comedies, Iwerks experimented with a “matte” – in which a cutout background would be placed over a camera lens to hide where animated figures might be. Iwerks also developed Mickey Mouse with Walt, was one of the leading hands on the Silly Symphony series, and was integral in developing the special visual effects that made animated/live-action hybrid movies like Song of the South (1946) and Mary Poppins (1964) as convincing as they are.
Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising, who developed the story of Alice’s Wonderland alongside Walt, honed their craft under him. But after Disney sold the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to Universal in 1928 in a dispute with Winkler’s husband, producer Charles Mintz, Harman and Ising’s time with Disney came to an end. Now on their own, Harman and Ising created Bosko. The Bosko shorts impressed Warner Bros.’ Leon Schlesinger and, in 1930, the trio founded the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series. Harman and Ising would eventually leave Warner Bros. in 1934 to develop the Happy Harmonies series for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer alongside William Hanna. Animator Isadore “Friz” Freleng also followed Harman and Ising to Warner Bros. and MGM, and was central to the creation of the likes of Porky Pig, Sylvester, and Yosemite Sam. Also following Freleng was Carman Maxwell, who spent the bulk of his career as a production manager for MGM’s animated shorts.
Actress Virginia Davis also moved out from Kansas City to Southern California to join Disney to star in the Alice Comedies. Davis appeared in fifteen of the fifty-seven Alice Comedies, ending her tenure with Alice in the Jungle (1925). She was able to nab the occasional minor child actress role and ended her career in the 1940s as uncredited dancers or chorus girls. She married in 1943 to a Navy airman and became a real estate agent active in the areas around Irvine, California and Boise, Idaho.
Margaret Winkler could be an exacting critic to Walt Disney and his animators, but she nevertheless sent words of encouragement, making suggestions where she saw fit to the rough cuts of the films. Her critiques plus the relatively expensive cost in making an Alice short saw Disney struggle to meet deadlines at first. But when Disney was able to convince Harman and Ising to move from Kansas City to Los Angeles, the pace of production hastened. Winkler retired from the film business in 1926 after the birth of her first child, with shockingly no one thinking to interview her about her work in the silent era before her death in New York state in 1990.
The Alice Comedies, beginning with Alice’s Wonderland, set the stage for American animated film in the early and middle twentieth century. Several figures involved in the series’ animation and storytelling paved careers that would deeply impact the direction of what today is Walt Disney Animation Studios. Others, like Harman, Ising, Freleng, and Maxwell, took with them Walt Disney’s artistic vision and guidance and spread that to two of the studio’s soon-to-be rivals in MGM and Warner Bros.
A century since Walt Disney screened Alice’s Wonderland for Margaret Winkler, Walt Disney Animation Studios has grown and evolved. The modern-day studio, I will argue, does not adhere to Walt Disney’s vision of making animated movies as dramatically and emotionally powerful as any live-action movie as faithfully as it could – and, in my opinion, has not consistently done so in at least a quarter-century. But the studio, and its legacy, started humbly, just hoping to please a crowd with sharp visual gags in the wild early days of animated silent film. Such were the initial hopes of John Randolph Bray and Winsor McCay. From the Alice Comedies to the Silly Symphony shorts to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Walt Disney and his fellow animators added to the foundation that their predecessors built.
In the simplest terms- What the hell happened in Gorillaz?
Well, here you go!
Phase 0- In two different auto accidents, Murdoc gave Stuart Pot two 8-ball fractures and dubbed him 2-D for the two dents in his head. He liked the look of it and decided to start a band, which then welcomed Paula Cracker, 2-D's girlfriend, and Russel Hobbs, a local hip hop legend that put his soul into his music ;) Well, then they moved into Kong Studios, and Russel caught Paula and Murdoc having relations in the bathroom, then broke Murdoc's nose and Paula was out of the band after that. Then, a box showed up on their door, and inside was a small child, who started shredding her guitar and only said "Noodle". This became her name and she was accepted into the band.
Phase 1- Nothing terribly important happened, it was a very lighthearted phase. At some point during it they all went to Japan, 2-D went back home to work his parents fairgrounds, and Murdoc got arrested in Mexico for giving invalid checks to a prostitute. At some point Noodle was alone in Japan and unlocked her memories, and with it the ability to speak and understand every language.
Phase 2- They were mostly mucking around here, but the biggest thing to happen was definitely the El Mañana incident. See, there was this guy, Jimmy Manson, who wanted to be in the band, but Murdoc did not want him to be because he was a hippie. Jimmy would not stop harassing Murdoc and so Murdoc hatched a plan. He would hole Jimmy up with ammunition and tell him to kill Noodle during the filming of El Mañana, but really, he planned to kill Jimmy himself by catching the windmill on fire with him inside. This went terribly wrong and Noodle was lost to the blaze.
Phase 3- This is by far the most lore heavy so to avoid confusion I will just say, Murdoc burned down Kong and used the insurance money to buy a garbage island at Point Nemo, the furthest point from any existing landmass. The band was separated at this point, with Russel taking a break to work through his demons, literally, by making his own album, before he decided to attempt to end his own life by jumping into the ocean. This just made him ingest ocean garbage which made him a giant. The Boogieman helped Murdoc kidnap 2-D back onto the island, then they turned against each other and the rest of the phase the Boogieman is chasing after Murdoc to drag him to Hell. Also- Using DNA from the accident, Murdoc constructed a robot named Cyborg Noodle to replace the dead bandmate- but during On Melancholy Hill it was revealed that Noodle has been alive (she's been demon hunting this whole time) So! Murdoc is hiding on the island with 2-D in the basement, trying to avoid everyone he's ticked off. Anyway, Rhinestone Eyes is where it hits the fan and the Pirates, the Black Cloud, and The Boogieman all attack the island. Murdoc makes an escape. 2-D is eated by a whale.
Phase 4- Russel was imprisoned and used as an attraction by North Korea before he starved enough to shrink to normal size and was free to leave. Noodle spent more time doing things in Japan. 2-D was eaten by the whale that guarded him at Point Nemo, then was left stranded on an island and forced to eat whale until he was rescued. Murdoc might've been hiding in a submarine this whole time with Cyborg Noodle, it's unclear. Well, then they just sort of decided they wanted to be a band again and reunited to make a new album.
Phase 5- Murdoc went to jail, he was framed for smuggling, and Ace took his place. This phase was largely focused on 2-D dealing with his trauma and the #FreeMurdoc campaign.
Phase 6- Not much! They moved in to Studio 13. Murdoc is chilling out.
Phase 7- We don't quite know yet! They have moved into a new home above a Silver Lake with strange neighbours and that's about all we know. Besides the fact that Murdoc started a cult
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on anything or missed anything important!
2017 VoicePlay winter activities — ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
With a new year came new projects and collaborators, as well as several personal milestones for the guys.
.
Auld Lang Syne
VoicePlay started the year on someting of a bittersweet note, finally making the offical announcement of Tony's retirement from the group. Fans had been remarking on his increasing absences from VoicePlay's content and concerts over the preceding year, so the formal confirmation that he had left was sad, but certainly less upsetting in knowing that it was an amicable decision.
youtube
Five years of frequent, extended travel had taken their toll. Tony wanted to spend more time at home with his family, and refocus his creative energies on new projects through PattyCake Productions, the studio he and Layne had been building over the previous year.
.
On a happier note, Eli and Ashley entered the home stretch in preparing for their wedding.
Tumblr media
.
Hot and cold
As they said in the audition video, the remaining guys didn't let a vacancy disrupt their other plans. They continued to alternate between Erik Winger and J.None as their stand-in baritones as they hit the road almost immediately.
First they picked up Winger and headed south for a stylish wedding in the Florida Keys.
Tumblr media
Then they scooped up J.None and returned to snowy NYC for the annual APAP conference after skipping it the year before.
Once they got home, it was time for some more rehearsals before they performed at a couple local private events and filmed their next video.
This song wasn't fast enough already, guys? Yeesh!
.
Jacobson nuptials
And of course everyone gathered to celebrate at Eli and Ashley's wedding.
From the road to the air
Toward the end of the month, Layne and Tony gathered up a few family members and friends and headed to southern Florida for their next PattyCake project.
When they got home, VoicePlay snagged J.None again and flew out west to "crash Eli's honeymoon" and headline the annual Napa Valley A Cappella Extravaganza.
Part of the extended family
During their week at home between road dates, Earl got to meet Jodi Benson, voice of the animated Ariel, during a Nemo post-show meet and greet session.
Round and round
The next weekend, the guys and Winger headed up to New Jersey for a show in Rahway with opening act Garden State Sound Quartet. The concert received some preliminary hype in the local press, and a very nice recap.
Then they popped home long enough to pick up J.None and Max Herskovitz for a five day trip to the Bahamas aboard the Disney Dream. While the other guys were at sea, Layne got into some tech geekery for an interview with Lens Depot as part of their customer spotlight series.
Once they disembarked, they bade farewell to Max and scooped up Layne for a quick jaunt to Maryland.
.
Making a name
After a few quiet days at home, they met up with Winger again to sing the national anthem as the opening to Full Sail University's annual alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
During a shopping trip the next day, Layne found a hat with surprisingly accurate embroidery. He joked that it "should have a question mark at the end", and his sister noted that a needle and thread could easily amend it. I'd argue that, like a lot of performing artists, they're more "situationally famous".
.
Frozen treats
The weekend took VoicePlay (again with Winger) north to St. Joseph, MN for a show attended by several longtime fans and local gent Chris Rupp.
Home time
Over next week, Layne, Tony, and Earl were busy filming PattyCake's next project, "Beauty and the Bieber", at several locations around Orlando. Meanwhile, Geoff and Kathy took advantage of the slight lull in their schedules and had a babymoon date night at a Take 6 / Manhattan Transfer concert.
But, of course, the VoicePlay momentum picked up again at their weekly planning meeting.
.
Ahoy-hoy
The week after that, they gathered up J.None and Max again for another loop around the Caribbean on the Disney Dream.
When they got home, they headed over to a local art school to perform at a fundraiser for their theater program. The lineup for the evening also included Brian Fortuna from Dancing with the Stars and Orshi Horvath, and a newly formed local boy band called the Beatline Boys.
Family time
The next few days were spent doing their own thing and marking some big milestones. Geoff and Kathy had their baby shower. Earl and Nick bought a new home.
Back to work
The final weekend of the season was bookended by video shoots with new collaborators. Friday saw them team up with theme park pal Matthew Darren for a club jam mashup, while Monday brought a peppy breakup song with Broadway performer John Pinto, Jr.
Once those were in the can, it was time to hit the road again, but that's a story for a another time.
Amsterdam - Canal Cruise
Amsterdam is known for lots of things. From the Dutch Masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer in Rijksmuseum, to neighbourhoods like Jordaan, The Nine Streets & Red Light District.
But most known are the Amsterdam Canals. An Unesco World Heritage site. A canal cruise is a must do when you travel to Amsterdam. This video tour is a travel guide along the famous canals of Amsterdam: from the starting point of the cruise near Wester Kerk (prinsengracht, west side) all the way around.
This canal cruise took about an hour to complete. You can just drift along the boat houses and old Amsterdam architecture. Seeing Wester Kerk, Keizersgracht, the river Amstel with the Skinny Bridge, then around the NEMO Science museum and the VOC Ship (replica of a ship that sailed the world during the Dutch Golden Age).
Amsterdam is located in the province (“state”) of North-Holland. Other places nearby that are worth checking out when you stay a couple of days are: Giethoorn (lots of tourist make the day trip to this Venice Of The North), Zaanse Schans in Zaandam (a collection of Dutch Windmills), Marken (a small fishermen’s village just outside of Amsterdam) and Edam / Voldendam.
If you happen to visit in the spring time: then seeing the Tulips in Keukenhof is a wonderful thing to see.
"Through the darkened fields entranced Music made her poor heart dance Thinking of a lost romance Long ago
Feeling lonely, feeling sad She cried in the moonlight Driven by a world gone mad She took flight
"Feel no sorrow, feel no pain Feel no hurt, there's nothing gained Only love will then remain," She would say
Shadow of the Moon"
"Shadow of the Moon" - Blackmore's Night
*pokes head from outside the burrow*
Evening evening everyone! :)
Just passing by and dropping this little thing that I worked on in the past couple of days.
I wasn't feeling that well, and whenever it happens, I just retreat to my usual hermit self and watch movies and whatnot.
So, the other day, I was watching LotR: The Two Towers, what these books and this trilogy had meant to me when I was a friendless, traumatized teen. They had been my safe haven for a long time, allowing me to find refuge when the world around me was too much for me to handle.
And it was in that period of time that my first proper OC was born, the one that would go on and influence many of my subsequent brainchildren, and the very first one that allowed me to pour all my hopes and dreams into her story. She would also be the one that has lasted the longest in my mind, having worked on her from 2001 until 2015.
That OC is my Elwen Ithildin, Elf Maiden of the House of Celeborn and probably the reason why, believe it or not, I managed to keep my mental health during those awful years.
I wanted to depict her passing her "duty" to Dorothea, the darling brainchild that has been keeping me company all throughout the pandemic and continue to do so to this day. :)
A small fun fact!
By now, you know that Dorothea is known as the "Morning Star"; well, that minuscule detail was actually a sort of personal homage that I did to Elwen and her status, in my old stories, as the "North Star": an ever fixed light in the darkness, a light that would always guide the wanderers through the night <3
(yes, I am obsessed with astronomy, so, as I said multiple times, the whole Sun/Moon/Star theme will be omnipresent in all my characters <3).
I hope you will like this <3
Laptop is finally fixed so I can start making all my OP stuff digital again!
Nemo is a lil different; no more issues with shoes, gets lil star tattoos on her face, hair is more flowy like the air - element associated with the east :)
She's still got no memories, but eventually she finds her sisters and learns who/what she is~
Robur: The Albatross you could think of as a submarine...but in the air!
Robur: We can cast nets over lakes and oceans! See, look we can fish AND harpoon from up here!
Robur: LOOK! We're flying over the North Poll!
Tom: Are you...
Robur: ...Trying to one-up Captain Nemo? No...what gave you that idea? *Starts building a submarine of his own.*
