Sweeney Todd headcanons

• Sweeney is the type to accidentally stare at people when he zones out.

• Mrs. Lovett’s favorite poem is Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe. (I mean, it’s about a girl who lives by the sea with her goth boyfriend.)

• Sweeney’s favorite Edgar Allan Poe story is The Cask of Amontillado. He just loves a good revenge story.

• If these characters knew about horror movies, Toby would be the type to swear he’s brave enough to watch one, but would end up being very scared by it.

• Anthony goes to Sweeney for relationship advice regarding Johanna.

• Prior to being sent away, Benjamin Barker was a major soft boy, and actually quite similar to Anthony.

• Johanna likes to paint and write poetry & short stories in her spare time.

• Mrs. Lovett stress bakes. A lot.

• Sweeney struggles with showing people that he cares, but he tries his best to find little ways of showing it.

• Due to the years she spent unable to afford basic necessities for survival, Mrs. Lovett’s health has been not-so great. She has been recovering, but every now and then, she still feels weak, and she sometimes gets body aches. She also tends to get sick easily. Whenever that happens, Sweeney and Toby both help take care of her.

• Johanna, Anthony, and Toby would all be really good friends.

• Also, they would try to play matchmaker with Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett. (Especially Anthony.)

• Anthony has a list of places for he and Johanna to visit. Johanna also has her own list of places she wants to go to once she finally escapes from Turpin.

• Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett always hang out after work. Usually they either talk, read together, dance, or he’ll listen to her play the piano.

sweeney todd backstory hc’s 🖤🥧🔪

- benjamin barker was a surprise child!!! his older sister and brother were already 11 and 13 years old when he was born. his father was distant and rarely home, and was far from thrilled about another baby, another mouth to feed, a boy to raise. so he just ran from his responsibilities for benjamin. ben always knew he had rejected him, yet still fought for his affection to no avail. picture a little cat bringing dead mice to his owner to please him, and only getting scolded. that was ben. always trying to be a good boy.

- soo he was a total mommy’s boy. and she adored him back, being the baby and an arguably perfect child. he was intelligent, compassionate, gentle, mature, and SO polite. his mother loved him dearly and doted on him until she passed away from illness when he was a teenager. he was devastated. it was his first experience with profound loss. AND DEFINITELY NOT HIS LAST (edit: him being a mommy’s boy and having a bad father is Very Important bc he loves women and hates men once he becomes sweeney)

- once he was grown and met lucy, she turned his whole world upside down in the best way. she was the first person to show him what love could be after his mother. they were dizzy for eachother, and once the initial high of infatuation had worn off, they had just begun settling into the comfortable domestic bond of marriage & parenthood. (then turpin ruined it Lol.)

- when lucy told ben she was pregnant, he internally vowed to be the father he always needed. to protect and love and be there. he hated himself beyond words for breaking his promise to his girl and believed he had failed in the most unforgivable way possible.

- tobias reminds sweeney of young benjamin barker. his innocence, his bright eyes, being glued to his mom’s hip. he always keeps his distance from toby because its just too distressing to remember what he used to be.

- nellie was 20 when she married albert, who was almost forty. they met through him butchering the meat for her pie shop, which she had been running since she was 17. he was not at all what she imagined for a husband, but he had the money and good standing in town for them to get by.

- she had to marry the first stable man she could find just to survive, with no family she knew of left. she loved him — kind of in the way you love an uncle. familiar and warm, but nowhere near the passionate relationship she longed for.

- she always felt like her young womanhood had been stolen from her by her bleak situation. she knew she was beautiful and charming, and she always wondered how marriage would’ve turned out if she hadn’t been so desperate.

- and then there was benjamin barker, her secret dream. he was a few years older than her, dark and handsome and kind, with strong features but the softest eyes she’d ever seen. though she was confined to her marriage, she never stopped herself from indulging in fantasies of the man.

- since he had moved his new barbershop into the space above her, they had been cordial. benjamin thought mrs. lovett generous, pretty, and friendly. that was about it. he was pretty clueless to her feelings about him. besides, she was a married woman.

- lucy came along, and the wedding, and the baby. nellie was terribly jealous and dissatisfied with her life as she watched another woman, a woman with the privilege of settling with a man who had practically nothing, live out her desires. she felt equally guilty for her dark envy of a happy little family who only treated her with kindness and respect.

- when benjamin barker was sent away she fell into pieces. that was when she realized just how terribly she loved him, how deep in over her head she was with her obsession. that impossible ember of hope that one day ben would be hers was the only thing motivating her.

- when turpin ruined lucy and stole johanna, mrs. lovett was not at all happy. it was a heartbreaking situation she tried to not get involved in for her own sake. yet, a rotten tendril of content would worm into her chest sometimes, reveling in what had happened as some sort of rotten justice for all the pleasures lucy had enjoyed in her life. especially the perfect husband she never knew she stole. nellie used to hate that evil, selfish part of herself.

- a couple years after ben was sent away, albert died. then it was just her and her pies and some loyal customers. gradually, even they stopped coming, and business came to a screeching halt. she had hit rock bottom— no money, friends, or family.

Give me your Fiske Cahill headcanons

Ooo yes okay! It’s been a while since I reread the series so apologies if some of these are incompatible with canon or are included in canon lol

AUTISM.

He refuses to eat fish on principle. When anyone else eats fish around him, he’s convinced they’re making fun of/insulting him.

He’s slightly weary of Saladin for the same reason.

Sure, he wears black to blend in and be drama queen. But also because he can own like twenty copies of the exact same piece of clothing so he knows it’s comfortable and he doesn’t have to waste time deciding what to wear.

He’s definitely forged at least one Janus painting and they still haven’t noticed.

He thinks it’s funny to pretend to be a helpless old man and/or confused American tourist to get out of complicated situations

Fiske and McIntyre would play chess and other strategy games while Fiske got filled in on Grace and her grandchildren.

His music tastes have been heavily influenced by Nellie. Dan finds it hilarious to see Fiske, dead to the world, with wired white earbuds tethered to Nellie’s hand-me-down past-generation iPod (it’s stained with spots of chipped nail polish and a sharpie-scribbled skull). He tells no one that he actually enjoys garage band punk.

He regularly painted Hope and her family, but would always burn the works as soon as they were completed so he didn’t put his loved ones at risk.

In the same vein, he now has an art studio in the mansion full of paintings of Dan, Amy, Nellie, and the rest of the people he loves; as well as landscapes of his travels.

He has mailed Beatrice varieties of smelly fish on more than one occasion. You know, since she must love fish so much.

Nellie tried to teach him to bake… let’s just say it wasn’t his calling. Something about Dan thinking the Vesper’s were burning down the mansion again, fire departments were called- it’s all a bit of a blur.

As far as Furina ships go I don't really have anything in particular for her. I think she would be compatible with Lumine, Nilou, Yun Jin and maybe even Ei & Miko (as a pair, don't tell me Miko wouldn't delight in teasing this turbovirgin).

It doesn't suit my headcanon for her (I relate to her as a strongly closeted lesbian since she had to basically put her whole self in the closet) but I also don't *mind* her shipped with Neuvillette, which I think the Genshin writers should take as an extremely high complement to their writing. I view their relationship more as close siblings though, but if a fic seems to be of exceptional quality I'll read it. Especially since it's near impossible to find fics involving exploring them from the siblings dynamic (I am asking for recs).

I have the headcanon that Nick is very jealous, come on, the fact that he made Zoey angry with Bill was because Ellis liked seeing Zoey and he even told Nick about it.

Zach and American Girls Headcanon

Y’all forgive me, this is probably going to seem like such a cursed headcanon, but I do not mean it in any bad way! This is actually a headcanon I love for him.

But… here it is, I think Zach’s mother collected American Girl Dolls and their book series, and she passed her love for them on to Zach!

I was an avid American Girl fan as a child. I have 9 dolls total, 7 of which are in the Historical Doll collection, and during the massive cleaning/revamp I’ve been doing in my room I have been planning a display location for my dolls with their books.

And of course the selfshipper in me thought of Zach…

Last summer @creativegenius22 and I were gushing over Zach and she mentioned that his swimsuit had a historical theme to it, which it obviously does, and since both of us enjoy history we naturally headcanoned that Zach himself just had to be a history lover too, lol.

So that, in combination with my American Girl display idea resulted in this….

My headcanon is that his mother became an avid collector of the dolls when they were still owned by the Pleasant Company and continued to grow her collection with each new release. She had a special room in their home where she displayed the dolls with their books. Each time a new doll, book, or doll’s outfit was released she bought them. If she had holiday or seasonal themed clothing for the dolls, she dressed them up whenever Christmas, their birthdays, summer, etc., rolled around.

At first Zach was annoyed by his mother’s insistence that he appreciate the dolls and read their books, but Zach reluctantly gave in to his mother. He grew to know every doll’s name and story, and once he’s learned their stories, he realized that their stories were not just “sissy girl stories.” They were actually filled with drama, humor, angst, and awesome historical facts.

Zach’s mother didn’t really allow him to play with the dolls, but he sometimes snuck into the “doll room” and took the dolls from their displays to reenact some of his favorite scenes from the books. As Zach grew older he stopped this, but he never forgot the dolls, and he secretly developed an appreciation for history because of his association with the dolls and their historical journeys.

So much so that he decided to embody his favorite dolls/characters: the turn of the century (1904-1907) best friends and adoptive sisters Samantha and Nellie through pieces in his wardrobe. His swimsuit (loosely) resembles Samatha’s bathing suit and his pajamas (closely) resemble Nellie’s nightwear.

And why were these two Zach’s favorites? Because they are my favorites he felt like he related to Samantha. She was upper class and was an orphan, although he was not an orphan he felt distant from his parents making him feel like something of an orphan. Nellie was also an orphan and he loved the idea of them both becoming sisters and finally feeling like they had a family by the end of their story: something he longed for from his busy parents.

As a side Headcanon, I also imagine this being a topic of discussion in my AU. Zach learns that Violet has a few of the dolls herself, including Nellie and Samantha, and he realizes they have yet another thing in common, so he admits his love of the dolls/books to her. And, knowing this, Violet would gift him one of the doll’s book series or a doll at some point.

So there is my Zach American Girl Headcanon! I know it is odd, but it makes me so happy!

Sweenett headcanons, ‘cause I love these two & I have a problem

(Disclaimer: Feel how you want about this ship, but disrespect and general rudeness will not be tolerated)

• Dancing has become a regular thing for Sweeney and Nellie. It's rare for them to go longer than a day without dancing at least once.

• For a while, Sweeney struggled with expressing his feelings out loud, so he'd express them by writing love letters to Nellie.

Even after getting better at expressing those emotions out loud, he still likes to write her letters.

• Sweeney and Nellie always hang out after work.

• Sweeney likes to play with Nellie's hair, especially when it's curly.

• Nellie likes to play with Sweeney's suspenders.

Sometimes she'll pull on them when she wants to pull him close.

(She also likes to play with his hair too.)

• They have a very similar sense of humor, as well as a ton of inside jokes, and always find ways to make each other laugh.

• Nellie fell in love first, but when Sweeney fell, he fell hard.

• Sweeney is extremely protective of Nellie. Not in a possessive way, he just doesn't want her to get hurt, and has an intense fear of losing her.

• After finally saving up enough money, they took a trip to the seaside.

Nellie drew a heart with their initials into the sand.

• Sweeney is actually really strong, and he tends to carry Nellie a lot. He often lifts her and spins her around, and sometimes he'll carry her bridal style.

• After the years they spent alone, Sweeney and Nellie are both extremely lonely and touch starved. They hold hands and cuddle up to each other as much as they can.

For a while, Sweeney tried to keep himself from doing this because he still missed Lucy and also felt guilty for being like this with someone else, but he couldn't help but really like Nellie's affection, and he also quite liked the deep connection he had with her.

• Nellie absolutely loves cuddles. Any chance she gets, she'll cling tightly to Sweeney. She loves holding him, and she loves being held. They often snuggle on the sofa and talk for hours.

• One time, Nellie fell asleep on the sofa while she was sitting next to Sweeney. He didn't want to wake her, so he fell asleep next to her. Since then, she would try to purposefully fall asleep on the sofa so she wouldn’t have to leave him. They eventually began to share a room once they started dating, but every now and then, she still tries to fall asleep on the sofa with him, as if it still is her only chance to fall asleep and wake up in his arms.

• Nellie plays the piano often, and she had started to make up little songs and sing them while playing. Sweeney always found it quite endearing. One day, she started singing and playing love songs for him, which he especially thought was adorable.

• Even when Sweeney was more indifferent towards Nellie's affection, he couldn't help but still find it endearing deep down. He tried to pretend he didn't care, but he couldn't help but want tenderness and love.

• When Sweeney first started to fall for Nellie, he tried desperately to push it away. When that failed, he tried to deny it. Eventually though, he couldn't help but love her, and he didn't want to stop himself anymore.

• Despite Nellie having loved him longer, Sweeney was actually the one who first asked her to be his official partner.

• Even after they began to use each other's first names, Nellie would still call Sweeney "Mr. T."

As an adorable retaliation, Sweeney would occasionally call her "Mrs. L," as well as "The future Mrs. T."

• Nellie was the one who helped Sweeney be able to finally start letting his guard down a little.

After they started dating, he became way more affectionate, and less afraid to show his love.

• A stranger in town once mistakenly assumed that they were married, and referred to Nellie as Mrs. Todd. She quite liked the sound of it, and was so happy that she didn't think to correct them. Sweeney couldn't deny that he also quite liked the sound of it, and decided that he wouldn't correct anyone if they made that mistake.

• Sweeney's first love confession was entirely accidental. Nellie had said "I love you" to him in passing, and he casually responded, "I love you too." He was shocked once he realized what he had said, since he was still nervous about admitting his feelings, and Nellie was quite shocked too, but happy nonetheless.

• They absolutely love using pet names for each other. Nellie's personal favorite is "my love." It's very sweet, and also gets to the point- He's her love, and she loves it whenever he calls her his love. "My love" is also a favorite of Sweeney's, but he also likes to be dramatic with it and use several at once. Examples: "My dearest love," "My dear, sweet Nellie," "My dear, sweet love," "My sweetest love."

• Nellie loves to lean her head on Sweeney. Usually on his shoulder, though she also likes to lie her head on his chest and listen to his heartbeat.

Sweeney also likes to lean his head on her every now and then. He loves listening to her heartbeat and closing his eyes as she pets his head and runs her fingers through his hair. He finds it very calming.

• Sweeney doesn't particularly like to admit to being soft and loving, but he's always very soft with Nellie.

Earlier on in their relationship, he'd try to deny being soft at all, though it would quickly be pointed out to him how sweet and loving he was being towards her.

• Sometimes, in an attempt to be cute and affectionate, Sweeney will bring up incredibly morbid stuff. Usually it's him mentioning death in some way or another, like him saying that he hopes they die in each other's arms and are buried beside each other, and that he hopes to spend his life after death with her as well. Nellie will tell him that this is sweet in a way, but also they'll cross that bridge when they get to it, and to maybe not focus on that right now.

He also tends to threaten to kill anyone who dares to hurt her. (Not to their faces, just something he mentions to her.) Nellie feels a little bad for finding it endearing, but she really does love how protective he is of the people he cares about, not to mention she ends up remembering that she's already helping him commit crimes, so it's not really any worse if she finds it cute that he'd kill for her.

• Sweeney and Nellie are both prone to nightmares, though Sweeney has them a lot more often. Any time that either of them has one, the other always comforts them.

Sweeney frequently has nightmares about his time in prison, and also ones about losing Nellie (or anything bad happening to her). Whenever he wakes up from said nightmares, he immediately pulls Nellie close and holds her as tightly as he can, extremely grateful that she's still there.

• Sometimes Nellie gets really emotional when it comes to their relationship, specifically because she had spent so long loving him, and so long dreaming and pining from a distance. She gets really emotional (in a happy way) whenever she's reminded that it's all real now, that they're really together and he really loves her.

Usually this results in her holding him tightly while crying and saying "I love you so much" a whole bunch. Sweeney can't help but find it adorable.

The Abyss: Death Knell

Shorthand to Nells, these creatures (sometimes also called Nellies) are of the abyss. They live in dense vegetation, using the coloration of their bodies as camouflage to hide themselves amongst foliage. Their coats function well for this, as do their tails, which can fold over themselves when they rest on the ground. They have some control over the tail feathers' texture and coloration, and given some time can alter them to better mimic the area, for more effective ambushing. They are carnivores, eating any animals drawn in by the flowery dapples to their coat or to the 'safety' of the thicket they can make with their tails when they are in wait, but they have specifically evolved to hunt humanoids and other large animals.

The Nells have multiple features that assist them in their hunts. They have prehensile claws on their forelegs, which allow for grasping and tearing when dealing with meat. They have spurs for fighting one another, but also a defense against creatures approaching from an angle that they cannot reach easily with their beak. The beak itself is tough and thick with a sharp tip, used for rending meat and snapping bones, and inside their mouth are serrated teeth, which allow for grabbing on and keeping something from pulling free easily if it still lives. Even their tails can be effective, able to to flip as they do and knock prey to the ground. The feathers may also be 'condensed' by folding over one another into a thick tail-like structure, which can be used for balance while a Nell is running, or weaponized by swinging it with less resistance and more weight to the impact.

Their camouflage is still one of their greatest features, as it allows for ambush to be further effective, and their head, often colorful in a geode shape with 'gemstones' inside, often attracts creatures who care for shimmering objects or stones of value. Inside the stone is where they can release black tendrils of varying thickness, as they stay curled up inside the hollow until an animal is too close. They are prehensile, and can be used as a mechanism for subdual, and carry an electric current that can incapacitate.

The most devastating for humanity is their voice, however. Like mockingbirds, they can near perfectly emulate a call they have heard, down to the pitch. Often, they will hunt a person, and then use their own voice to call for help often with their panicked cries, to attract others to their location. Using bodies as bait, they will lie in wait in their self-made foliage, and ambush any human that wanders close enough. They are fast moving on all fours with such long limbs, and can fold their feathers together to make one long tail for balance if need be, but it often doesn't come to that. Instead, they conserve energy and wait for their prey to come to them, using familiar voices, or ones in need, to lure others to them.

When their prey is dead, they will use their beak to feed and tear a hole in the abdomen, which they will then use their electric tendrils to enter. The electric current they possess can bring false 'life' to corpses, which they can use to make them move and twitch; such movements can fool humans into believing the body is still alive.

While they cannot mimic a person they have not heard, if they manage to find a body that is fresh enough, using the same currents, they may be able to force the lungs and muscles to constrict in order to 'speak', which may allow them to learn a new voice they can utilize.

Nells all have the same gemstone on their face above their beak, which for a long time was assumed to be their eye, and a potential weak-point. It was quickly discovered that was not the case, and their eyes are actually what appear to be nostrils on either side of the eye (it is thought that they might breathe through the geode on their head instead). The piece itself is theorized to be used in mating rituals for Nells instead, as larger or unblemished stones seem to attract mates more effectively, paired with tail length and thickness.

Nells have some degree of sexual dimorphism, with female Nells appearing in blues, with ripples in their coats that are more effective to hiding in aquatic environments. Their 'geode' head appears more like coral or stone, and they keep it above water to breathe, and the gem they use to mate will often be blue and much smaller than a male's.

Once a year, the males and females meet at a mating grounds to have offspring, which are born with blue coats and stay with the mother until maturity. The males (and a few females) will have their coats change over time into more vegetative coloration, while most females and a few males will remain blue into adulthood.
