The writing process seems counterintuitive to me. It makes more sense to start writing, then edit to make things fit. College teaches you that you should plan and do the opposite, organize first then write.
Is there a writing process that better fits neurodivergent brains? College makes me feel broken sometimes.

The Stomlight archives, badly summarised. Book one, The Way of Kings.
In a world where no one is white other than some weird weebs in Shinovar, a twenty something Emo drops out of med school to experiment with war and slavery, and wins PTSD to go with his existing Seasonal Adjustment Disorder and Depression, decides that a wise man builds a longer murder-bridge and not a higher murder-fence, and mentally breaks so badly that the universe sends him the mathematical average of superman and spiderman’s powers and an emotional support goddess. Due to the paperwork of this particular universe being irreversibly fucked by squabbling super-powered Mormons, the goddess in question is a 5,000 year old teenage girl with ADHD.
Meanwhile, an actual teenage girl with ADHD and trauma related D.I.D tries and fails to steal magic jewellery from the human embodiment of a ND dark academia moodbord, and breaks so badly that the universe takes pity on her and grants her an emotional support god who is the embodiment of math and also has Aspergers.  The human moodbord then adopts her because they can both nerd so hard they enter an alternate dimension made of abstract ideas and fucking glass ball bearings of all things. They then go of on a quest to tell the world that slavery is wrong, but only because the slaves might get their minds back and also get superpowers soon (due to one the aforementioned super-Mormons being a prick), and that could cause them personaly trouble.
Also meanwhile, the moodbords cousins are a man so autistic he somehow invented the fidget-box while living in a world that’s every Warhammer faction at once, and a dyslexic himbo who talks to his sword. The father of these two is this universe’s only neurotypical person, who happens to be an angry boomer who’s so metal as fuck his heartbeat is the Doom 2016 soundtrack, but everyone thinks he’s going senile because the ghost of a god keeps prank calling him each time the weather gets bad. He’s fighting a war against crab people, but mostly against the rest of his faction who are at best his useless nephew (whose mom he wants to bone) and at worst the human embodiment of that sneer Joffrey makes in game of thrones.
Also the coolest fantasy swords of any work of fiction exist, and one of them belongs to a bald weeb who has to murder every world leader because someone stole his pet rock.

I treated myself to a guzman bfast burrito this morning because the bread at home looks different to normal and I can't eat it. I'm sure it's fine, but it's like white bread with dark spots in it, and I don't know what the dark spots are, so I can't eat it. And I already triggered my gag reflex and did some lovely dry retching after brushing my teeth this morning. So I couldn't face trying to eat something weird as well.
Great start to the day! I'm doing my best. At least I look cute today, and I remembered to put on some of my new beaded bracelets.

ADHD is so weird some days I’m an absolute beast of accomplishment and then others I have to make shady deals with myself like “ok brain you just have to do this ONE THING and then once you’re done you can switch off until the rest of the day”
And then of course I’m like “ok just these TWO things” bc I forgot one when I started these negotiations 💀
And my brain is like “Or we could take a nap right now did you think of that”
(I’m doing the thing I’m doing the thing I’m not getting distracted I’m doing the thing)
(SHIT I’m posting on Tumblr that was NOT the thing)

Ok ok on second thoughts i most likely shouldn't drink atm
We are likely just watching a movie tonight anyway and i usually like to get things done when i drink bc that's a time when i am truly chill (the daily pharma drugs sedate but don't chill me out so instead i am just left a half-asleep yet still anxious mess too fatigued to really do any activity to distract myself - even watch tv and movies is too hard for me a lot of the time especially if no subtitles available) and not absolutely bombarded with racing thoughts I am compelled to keep running to Notes to scribble down every 2 minutes, leading to thousands of unsorted notes probably on the same topic bc i forgot having already rambled on it before just in different words lol.
Also i am aiming to cook us tea (pork chops) tonight if i wake up able to, and don't drink + fry my friends. (Me and mum melted the end of the handle of a fish slice turning on the wrong element the other month between the two us that way lol 😬 even tho she always makes me swear not to cook drunk bc of one mishap a few years ago but i guess she was feeling a little silly that night plagued with the munchies for 🌶️✨ jalapeno bites ✨🌶️)
But yeah mum has worked hard this weekend (bc EOFY) and this month so I think she deserves a cooked meal at the very least, if i can manage to get my tired neurodivergent ass out of bed
Gotta try get my sleep better for Easter weekend when brother will come over to play Buzz games and hopefully I can wrangle someone into playing Just Dance with me. So pray I don't get hit with the ole restless legs again and have to go lay down half the time
Now i seriously must stop rambling on the internet and try to do a chill activity (maaaybe Fae Farm finally???) and drink my Relaxing Tea and power this ship down for nap time

Majority of the Doctor Who viewing audience: switches on to watch the show, has a good time and then gets on with their evening.
Me: watches the show. Needs (at minimum) 5 hour to work through my initial thoughts and emotions before I can even contemplate going to sleep tonight.

OKAY who wants to hear about why i think nimona challenges amatonormativity? you do! 🫵
one of the main ways this is accomplished is through ballister and ambrosius’s relationship. it’s arguable that it doesn’t necessarily fit the traditional model of romance - not only are they a queer interracial couple, and not only is their relationship ambiguous in the book, but there are certain instances, especially in the movie, that subvert traditional ideas of romance and friendship.
one instance that really stands out to me is when the director asks ambrosius what’s on his mind and he goes on his imagined rant about how arm-chopping isn’t a love language - you know the one. when he mentions ballister, he refers to him as “the man i love, my best friend.” and not just one or the other, but both! the man i love, and my best friend. he places equal emphasis on both the romantic and platonic aspects of the relationship, valuing ballister in both a romantic context and a platonic context without treating either one as more important than the other.
and even moments such as the first “i love you” and the kiss manage to subvert tradition. both of these things are generally seen as a pretty big deal, especially in fiction - if the characters are kissing or saying “i love you,” it’s usually a moment in which everything changes. a line is drawn, dividing the story into after and now. sometimes it’s dramatic and climactic, with fireworks and a swell of music, but even when it isn’t it’s still seen as a turning point of sorts. now it’s official, now it’s real. but this isn’t the case in nimona. both moments are certainly significant - they do a good job of showcasing the character development and where ballister and ambrosius are on their respective journeys, and are certainly important in terms of representation - but neither one follows the path that most fictional romance does.
another way in which nimona challenges amatonormativity would be the emphasis on friendship! in the tavern scene (in the movie) when ambrosius suggests killing nimona, ballister disagrees and says “she’s my friend.” ambrosius replies with “aren’t i more than that?”, implying he’s more important than a friend - thus upholding amatonormative ideas. ballister becomes angry at that and leaves - challenging this idea and prioritizing his platonic relationship with nimona over his romantic one with ambrosius, as nimona is the one he wants to defend.
additionally, a big part of this scene is the way ballister deliberately rejects institute values while ambrosius unintentionally upholds them. and because the story challenges homophobia and transphobia (and other forms of bigotry) through the lens of the institute, it would make sense for it to challenge amatonormativity too! it’s something that’s become incredibly normalized, to the point that lots of people don’t even know it exists, and this is reminiscent of the institute brainwashing, especially when it comes to ambrosius - he’s been manipulated his whole life and probably genuinely doesn’t understand the level to which he’s internalized institute beliefs.
ballister prioritizes nimona many times, actually. when he tells ambrosius she’s “smart, kind, and quite sophisticated,” when he’s overjoyed to see her again at the end, when he refuses to kill her and saves her instead. over and over, he proves how much he cares about her, even when this involves directly going against what ambrosius wants - which, of course, is really what the institute wants. a core tenant of amatonormativity is the false notion that romantic relationships are more important or valuable than other types of relationships, but ballister actively goes against this!
to conclude, as a story that at its core is about identity and challenging societal beliefs, nimona defies expectations and traditional ideas of what it should or shouldn’t be. it’s possible that amatonormativity wasn’t what the creators had in mind, but the story still manages to challenge it with grace and elegance. just like its main character, nimona refuses to conform to what others want it to be.
