I close my eyes and listen for my heartbeat. It is strong but steady. I listen for his breathing and when I hear it like a ripple over water my heart skips. I exhale steadily into the pipe and as my fingers move over the holes I imagine they are his fingers on my arms, trailing down my trunk, my hips, my legs. When I open my eyes to look at him I know he is imagining it, too.

He rests the lyre against his knee and joins its notes to mine. Though we sit apart I can feel the vibration of the strings as heat spreading through me. He raises his voice in song, a hymn of praise, and I can feel the breath of his singing, the movement of his lips all around me. My melody quickens, and his harmony keeps time, becomes richer, more complex, even as my playing turns frenzied, erratic, but he ties my notes together, he makes it into music. A long, piercing vibrato, the rush of a vibrant glissando, and we are falling apart in each other's Song. Sound becomes the touch of calloused fingers around my wrists, the colour of his flush, the sweet taste of his seed, the scent of my desire.

Bitter (2308 words, G, Maedhros & Fingon)

Three meals and three conversations between Maedhros and Fingon (mostly about food but not only). This was an easy fic to write. Everything just came together and I still like it very much. It also has art made by lorica-art!

Chronicles of Grief (2392 words, T, hints of Russingon)

This fic is just Fingon coping with Fingolfin’s death by writing letters to Maedhros, which can also qualify as diary entries. I’ll be honest, I haven’t reread it since I posted it, but I still think it’s pretty good.

A King, Uncrowned (A King, Enthroned) (5026 words, T, Maedhros & Fingolfin)

A TRSB 2021 treat for navyinks, this fic chronicles the day of Fingolfin’s coronation from Maedhros’s perspective. I tagged it as 5000 words of anxiety and I stand by it. I wrote most of the fic pretty easily and then was stuck when it came to the ending. But eventually, I wrote it and I’m proud of it. Navyinks also made another wonderful artwork for the fic!

Dearest Cousin (5614 words, T, Russingon)

My entry for Tolkien Secret Santa 2021. This was so fun to write! Probably the most fun I’ve had writing a fic. A series of misunderstandings, pining and a resolution thanks to a failed prank. I think it’s one of the funniest fics I’ve ever written (not that there are a lot of them).

Play Like It Is the Last Time (9808 words, M, Russingon)

This fic is special in several ways. It’s the latest fic I’ve posted, the longest fic I’ve written for this fandom, the first (and probably the last) modern AU I’ve written for this fandom. I jokingly call it my magnum opus. It’s not perfect, I know, maybe I’ve even written better fics, but I had wanted to write a football AU for such a long time, and then the perfect opportunity presented itself during TRSB22. I think one of the reasons I was distant from the fandom for the last months was because after writing this fic I thought well, my job here is done, I combined my last and current fandoms, there is nothing more left to do :D

Turgon/Finrod, Daeron/Maglor, Galadriel/Melian for the bingo? 💗

Turgon/Finrod

I don't see it as romantic...I'm not into the cousin ships generally. Their friendship though is SO important to me; they are BFFs for all time which makes them practically married. Finrod and Amarie and Turon and Elenwe spent SO much time together in Tirion and anyway the Arafinweans and the Nolofinweans are basically siblings. Also, iirc Finrod and Turgon are, at least in one version of the story, canonically born in the same year so they can literally have been friends from birth and that is so sweet. I love it. Turgon was definitely around to fuck up anyone who talked shit about Finrod growing up and they were always busy with shenanigans. And of course, I'm destroyed about how they were separated by necessity and then Turgon wasn't around when Finrod got killed :((( I think their reunion would be one of the happiest and least complicated among the Finweans.

Daeron/Maglor

This is one of those ships I ended up in simply because I like both of the characters individually, and Daeron gets very little content outside of Daemags :') BUT there's also sooo much drama potential here. Did they get together earlier in the First Age? Then Daeron gets to hear about how his (ex? former?) boyfriend/lover/hook-up slaughtered his people and destroyed Daeron's home beyond recovery. And you thought YOUR ex drama was bad. Do they not get together until after the First Age? Then they're both sad sack shells of their former selves and Maglor STILL has a lot of mea culpa-ing to do. There's a lot to tap into here what with the loneliness, trauma, and at some point, the desire to move on? Idk there's just a lot going on there and it's all messy. In any case, their one-sided Maglor --> Daeron musical rivalry is very important to me.

Galadriel/Melian:

This one I got into recently, mainly because this fandom NEEDS more femslash, dammit! I will admit it's not quite as compelling to me as Galadriel/Luthien, but it's still a good ship! I don't see them as long-term, honestly. I think Melian is devoted to Thingol and when Galadriel left Doriath with Celeborn that was the end of things and neither of them deeply regrets that, even if they might occasionally think of/miss each other. I don't see it as an inherently fucked up ship, but the potential for it is so there and that's also fun to explore. And we know that Melian taught Galadriel a lot in Doriath yk ;DDDDD

Fathoms Below

@nailsinmywall, @foxleycrow & @navyinks seem to have dragged me into something called Mayglor with mer-Maglor arts and I am *living* for the potential of Eldritch Uinen and Maglor friendship implied by this... so I maybe wrote a fic. (Partially inspired by @bloodwingblackbird‘s TRSB concept, too...)

Uinen moves, fluid as water, sinuous as a snake, her limbs – green-webbed fingers longer than fingers ought to be, skin decorated with the lumps of pale barnacles clinging to her, a body that is thick and feels strangely nurturing in a sense he does not quite understand, ending in a mass of squid-like tentacles each thicker than his legs – flowing like she is following her own current.

“Beautiful, is she not?” The words, the light wry voice turned sweetly loving, right next to his ear are even more startling than the knowledge that when the sailors who heaved him overboard to calm the storm cried out a sacrificial prayer to Uinen, she actually listened.

He nods, dumbly.

She is, the savage beauty of power leashed if barely, the roar of the seas hers to command or calm, and he knows who is beside him, foam-white hair floating in a current that doesn’t exist in this strange bubble of air beneath the waves.

“Ossë,” he breathes, fear-tinged.

Ossë laughs, high and bright, and an elf-shaped hand darts into view, gripping his shoulder. The bruise beneath flares to life, hot and painful, and the best reminder than this is no drowning-dream.

He is fathoms below, dropped into the depths of the sea.

And he is alive.

For now.
