I think more people (me) should stop using Ravens and other corvids to act as omen's of death when doing a symbolism and start using Pīwakawaka as omens of the death instead.
Tumblr media
You may not like it, but this is what peak death omen looks like.

Fat Kereru
The fat part is obvious really and so inherent to kereru that it can't really be used as a descriptor. They also during some times of the year do great big swoops over the trees to show off to potential mates, and at other times get so drunk on fermenting fruit that they fall under the trees and lie out on the lawn with mates.

Voting for Te Manu Rongonui o te Tau Rautau/Bird of the Year Century is open 30 Oct–12 Nov!
In 2023 the candidates are in competition for the title of Bird of the Century, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Te Reo o te Taiao/Forest & Bird in Aotearoa New Zealand.
This year there are several extinct species in the running as well. Vote for your favourite native birds, support Forest & Bird in their efforts to raise awareness of our many endangered native species and check out the past champions (including the controversial 2021 Bird of the Year winner, the long-tailed bat).

Aotearoa New Zealand Birds Embroidered Shirts by Bird Shirts
Wear the bird. Save the bird
Our native birds are cheeky, trusting and specialised for an island without humans and predators. For the same reasons we get to enjoy close sightings and intimate moments with our birds we need to look after them. Bird Shirts is our helping hand and we are grateful you are joining us.
When you purchase a tee, half of the profits are donated to a bird conservation project.

Bird sings with open wings - procreate
The bird in the picture is a crimson rosella native to Australia. Absolutely stunning birds I’m so glad I get to see them everyday.

This is Ricky (named after Ricky Jervais) and he was the first bird to visit our house when we first moved in and he has visited ever since
I will most likely be drawing the other birds/birds that have visited our house so stay tuned!
