on the topic of milo humphrey, i wish we had seen a little bit more of what happened between georgina showing up heavily pregnant at the loft and georgina fucking off to st. barts. like, what on earth does dan humphrey attempting to co-parent a newborn baby with georgina sparks, of all people, look like? as toxic as she might be, georgina’s dynamic with dan was always darkly hilarious to me, and im very curious about how they uh, dealt with each other during that time period
this is actually something that WILL come up eventually in my wonder how; wonder why verse! (even though that’s the one with the dangina wedding and all that.) i think it’s notable that when georgina says she’s taking milo, dan doesn’t really protest re: her mothering skills. if georgina was an abusive/neglectful mother At That Stage i feel like dan might have put up more of a struggle, some sort of “he may not be biologically mine, but i have been taking care of him better than you have!” but there’s no hint to that sentiment, nothing like that at all.
and i KNOW that dan’s self worth is shit, i know he wouldn’t outright go “you involved me in this, i became his parent when i signed that birth certificate” (he could’ve contested legally to keep milo, and he might’ve actually won that case, but we know he would not have done that.) but remember in s1 when alison comes back and dan yells at her about leaving because “jenny needs her mother”?? if georgie wasn’t good to milo, i think we would’ve seen it.
the canon implication is extremely very much that georgina and dan were actually splitting responsibilities more or less evenly, before she abandons him briefly (& then comes back and takes milo away for good.) they probably took turns staying up if needed, feeding milo, changing milo, etc. and given the fact that dan seems a lot less :/ about the situation as i would expect him to be, i really do headcanon georgina to have been. uh. actively involved in co-parenting milo, for that period of time.
i do think that georgina has a sort of soft spot for dan - which is not to say she’s good to him or anything, but more like that relationship is one that she enjoys (even though it’s absolutely objectively not a healthy one.) the fact that dan was ready to turn his life upside down inside out for milo INCLUDES georgina - in the sense that he was turning his life upside down to let both G & milo stay with him. and if what she was telling him about the circumstances that led to her being pregnant and needing to flee and get help were true - even if they weren’t true, her desperation seemed pretty real - i think she really needed the sort of stability and grounding nature that being at dan’s would’ve provided.
so i think she would be Nice to him for a bit. and he’d get lulled into a fake sense of stability, which - georgina sparks is the exact opposite of stability. the only thing consistent about georgina is that NOTHING is consistent about georgina.
a miniseries that just goes into the antics of dan & georgina raising milo (while georgina causes trouble and vanessa & nate try to ensure that dan is okay, because georgina sure as hell isnt doing that) would be such fun. just 10 episodes. i haven’t watched shameless, but isn’t there a moment where one of the kids snorts cocaine by accident? i feel like that’s pretty much what’d happen if georgie was on her own with milo. and dan of course knows this, knows georgina, so he overcompensates. he’s taking care of everything all the time. he would wrap milo in bubble wrap if that’d keep him safe. and nate and vanessa are just chilling in the loft watching everthing burn (metaphorically) like ‘wow, dan and his ex girlfriend objectively have no chill. wow.”
