My Comfortember 2022 contribution for the prompt : Afraid to ask for help.

I’m sorry for the mistakes, English is not my native language. I hope you like it.

Summary : Nasha heard footsteps coming towards her. She was in an out-of-the-way place in the forest. No one knew about it except :

“Greige !” She said turning round. “What are you doing here ?”

“You weren't at the guild and no one saw you today. You always come here when something's bothering you.”

“Roar of the Fire Dragon !” Nasha shouted.

The flames sprang up, but they were not strong enough. Nasha sighed. No matter how much she tried over and over, she was still far from mastering this technique. Her father had tried to reassure her by telling her that when he was her age he had not mastered it either and that she still needed practice. Yet, even if she was training, she felt like she was not progressing. She knew she could ask her father for help. He would have been happy to train her. But she wanted to do it alone. She wanted him to be proud of her.

“Roar of the Fire Dragon !”

Annoyed, Nasha stamped her foot on the ground. Why couldn't she do it ? She heard footsteps coming towards her. She was in an out-of-the-way place in the forest. No one knew about it except :

“Greige !” She said turning round. “What are you doing here ?”

“You weren't at the guild and no one saw you today. You always come here when something's bothering you.”

She should have known he would come. This was where they met to play when they were little. She always went here when she was not well, or had problems. She always felt like everything was becoming clearer and that comforted her. But this time it was different.

“Are you alright ?” Greige asked.

“Yes, everything is fine.”

He looked at her perplexed and Nasha sighed in exasperation.

“I can't master the Roar of the Fire Dragon.”

“You can ask your father to help you.”

“No. I want to do it on my own and make him proud of me.”

“Sometimes we need help to improve.”

Greige looked at her with his big blue eyes.

“I can help you,” he said, blushing.

“You use water and ice. They are opposed to fire. You really think you can help me.”

“It is precisely because they are opposed that you can improve. You know I will always be there to help you.”

Nasha blushed. Every time he said that to her, her heart raced in her chest. She was not the sort to ask for help, she had always preferred to solve her problems on her own. But with Greige it was different. With him it was easier and she trusted him.

“Can we start training now ?” she asked shyly.

Greige smiled and nodded. They trained all day. Nasha knew that if Greige was there to help her, she would succeed.

Résumé : Nasha entendit des pas arriver vers elle. Elle se trouvait dans un endroit reculé dans la forêt. Personne ne connaissait cet endroit, à part :

« Greige ! Dit-elle en se retournant. Qu’est-ce que tu fais là ?

-Tu n’étais pas à la guilde et personne ne t’a vu aujourd’hui. Tu viens toujours ici quand quelque chose ne va pas. »

« Hurlement du dragon de feu ! Cria Nasha. »

Les flammes jaillirent, mais elles n’étaient pas assez puissantes. Nasha soupira. Elle avait beau essayer encore et encore, elle était encore loin de maîtriser cette technique. Son père avait tenté de la rassurer en lui disant qu’à son âge il ne la maîtrisait pas non plus et qu’il lui fallait encore de l'entraînement. Pourtant, même si elle s’entraînait elle avait l’impression de ne pas progresser. Elle savait qu’elle pouvait demander de l’aide à son père. Il aurait été ravi de l’entraîner. Mais elle voulait y arriver seule. Elle voulait qu’il soit fier d’elle.

« Hurlement du dragon de feu ! »

Énervée, Nasha tapa du pied par terre. Pourquoi elle n’y arrivait pas ? Elle entendit des pas arriver vers elle. Elle se trouvait dans un endroit reculé dans la forêt. Personne ne connaissait cet endroit, à part :

« Greige ! Dit-elle en se retournant. Qu’est-ce que tu fais là ?

-Tu n’étais pas à la guilde et personne ne t’a vu aujourd’hui. Tu viens toujours ici quand quelque chose ne va pas. »

Elle aurait dû se douter qu’il viendrait. C’était à cet endroit qu’ils se retrouvaient pour jouer quand ils étaient petits. C’était toujours ici qu’elle allait quand elle n’allait pas bien, ou qu’elle avait des problèmes. Elle avait toujours l’impression que tout devenait plus clair et ça la réconfortait. Mais cette fois, c’était différent.

« Est-ce que tu vas bien ? Demanda Greige.

-Oui, tout va bien. »

Il lui lança un regard perplexe et Nasha soupira, exaspérée.

« Je n’arrive pas à maîtriser le hurlement du dragon.

-Tu peux demander à ton père de t’aider.

-Non. Je veux y arriver toute seule et qu’il soit fière de moi.

-Parfois, on a besoin d’aide pour s’améliorer. »

Greige la regarda avec ses grands yeux bleus.

« Je peux t’aider, dit-il en rougissant.

-Tu utilises l’eau et la glace. Ils sont opposés au feu. Tu crois vraiment pouvoir m’aider.

-C’est justement parce qu’ils sont opposés que tu ne peux que t’améliorer. Tu sais que je serai toujours là pour t’aider. »

Nasha rougit. À chaque fois qu’il lui disait ce genre de chose, elle sentait son cœur s’accélérer. Elle n’était pas du genre à demander de l’aide, elle avait toujours préféré résoudre ses problèmes par elle-même. Mais avec Greige c’était différent. Avec lui c’était plus facile et elle lui faisait confiance.

« Est-ce que l’on peut commencer à s’entraîner maintenant ? Demanda-t-elle timidement. »

Greige sourit et acquiesça. Ils s’entraînèrent toute la journée. Nasha savait que si Greige était là pour l’aider, elle finirait par y arriver.
