Summary: Beau reckons with the weight of his orders and his untold feelings.

From the moment he was ushered into Iceman's office last week, Beau had been dangerously on edge. Thoughts of how his vision got blurry when the candidate list crossed his desk and the way his voice threatened to waver each time he had to mention your name rang loudly in his mind. 

The cherry on top of his miserable cake was getting your text this afternoon. Even after months of radio silence, you still regarded him so sweetly— a fact that only worsened the hurt and guilt living in his chest. 

He had typed and retyped a reply a thousand times by now, but no response would ever feel right. Beau tosses his phone onto his desk and lets out a sigh before reclining further into his leather chair. He stares up and watches the lazy ceiling fan spin as he ruminates over the situation he's found himself in. 

Being in silent, helpless love with his subordinate-turned-closest friend was a fact that kept him awake more nights than he'd ever like to admit. Worse still was how his biggest curse also happened to be his largest saving grace, seeing as how for the last 4 years you had been stationed in Key West or shipped off to the other side of the world. Another fact that he, by yet another miracle, had nothing to do with. Above all else, he wished you were back in town under better circumstances. If this was the situation of one of his colleagues, he'd give them a dry laugh and simply tell them to man up and get their priorities in check. But he wasn't them, and you were, well, you.

Steeling his nerves, he types up yet another reply, only this time he hits send before he can second guess himself. The nerves set in quickly, but It's too late now. Leaving him to resume his watch of the ceiling fan as if there isn't a mountain of paperwork calling his name. Paperwork that has your portrait pinned to the top.

He lets out a silent prayer, asking that somehow you never receive his words at all. He briefly considers putting his phone on airplane mode, but he knows his meager words are already illuminating your phone screen. With the weight of the world resting on his shoulders, he swallows the lump in his throat and forces himself to begin tackling the ever-growing mountain of paper that has found a home on his desk. Even though his mind is anywhere but here, he knows most of it needs to be signed off on before tomorrow's debrief. With each stroke of his pen his thoughts spiral harder, leaving him to simply hope that over the next two weeks, you won't grow to hate him for what he's been ordered to put you through.

Yeah as per usual Faysal has made a dumbass decision! He has 0 friends on the other team and contrary to popular belief moriah’s team is actually absolutely STACKED! They have Devin and Nurys for mental challenges, all of them are good endurance runners AND decent swimmers, they also have Jordan, Moriah and Horacio for anything strength related, and their weakest member (Nany) can at least hold her own in running and swimming as opposed to the other team’s weakest member (Aneesa) who is terrible at both. The other side has brute strength sure and Aneesa is decent at mental challenges but definitely not incredible and nelson is a horrible swimmer! I think this is going to be a blow out for moriah’s team unless the challenge is holding a 500 pound rock for as long as possible standing in one spot.

Seated around a table, the 4 members of "The Rogues gallery" have gathered together, called upon by their leader, The Director

The group were Murmuring amongst each other, wondering as to what they could had been called for, their questions would then be answered as The Director entered the room and took his seat

“Evening, I’m sure you’re all wondering what you’re here for, but first, roll call: Igor Inkwell?”

“ ‘ere”

“Wally Warlock?”

“Aye!”

“Emilia Esqueleto?”

“here!”

“Mr Mech?”

“For the last time, it’s ドクターマスターセンシ Mech!”

“Whatever you say, Mr Mech, The green hoods?”

The room remained silent, “Seriously?” Wally groaned in frustration, “those three maggots go on ONE expedition and suddenly they can’t be arsed to show up?!”

“Tell me about it, if it weren’t for them telling me about our latest target, they’d be axed by now” The Director continued as he reached into his pocket, “speaking of which, do any of you remember, Tumbleweed?”

Suddenly the room lit up with furious roars 

“Ugh, that bastard’s got some nerve trying to see the light of day again!”

“Oh, what I wouldn’t give to lay a katana on the neck of that dishonorable dirtbag!”

“Everyone, calm down!” the director ordered, “I’ve had an encounter with the traitor not too long ago”

 he continued as he held up and revealed GG’s wanted poster to the team, “he was ruthless as always and worse yet, he’s indoctrinated a plucky sidekick for his antics, poor kid, I tried to get him to see the light, but not only did he refuse, he had the GALL to act as though I was the bad guy! I saw their plans to flee for the toppat rocket, but I’ve since learned this plan of theirs bombed and they’re still on earth”

“So all we have to do is pop the little palooka’s head off?” Igor inquired as he anticipatedly jammed his fists together

“Believe me, I’d like to for both the traitor and the brat, but their bounties require them to be brought alive”

“Ah, phooey! What difference does it make anyways?”

“Igor, you remember the last time we were supposed to bring a target alive?”

“I’ve still got stains on my hat” Emilia interjected 

“And the worst part, we were supposed to receive $2000 for the target but because of you going off script, we got $500, in monopoly money”

“Cry all you want, I’m never giving up boardwalk!” 

“So what is the plan?”

“Well, that’s what I’ve called you all for, we’ll need to put our heads together if we want to see our antagonists fall, ideas anyone?”

Wally proceeded to continually clear his throat, obviously intending to draw attention to himself

“Wally, you have the floor”

“Well, I’m glad you asked” He proceeded to slam down a large detailed diagram across the table, “As you can see, my strategy is nothing short of fool-proof, accounting for every last possibility right down to what those Maggots had for breakfast! I’ll just be needing an increase in my budget for a little heavier artillery, a bit of extra ammo, maybe another spell book”

“Wally, you’re sitting on a bucket right now”

“Oh, come on! I won’t even need to hire any soldiers! I’ll just borrow Emelia’s-”

“There’ll be a blue sky in Mexico before I think about letting you lay a FINGER on my friends!”

“Emelia, they’re skeletons”

“Well they still have souls unlike your war-mongering arse! And they wouldn’t be caught double-dead with a bazooka!”

“Both of you, calm down! And Wally, could you please try to stay on budget?”

“Ahem” Mr Mech smugly remarked, pushing up his glasses, “unlike the rest of you, I know how to really get things done even under the tightest wad and I’ve already got something quite extraordinary prepared…” 

“Lemme guess, another giant robot?” “NANI?! How did you know?”

“I had a hunch, just make sure the self destruct is away from the on button this time”

“Hey! That only happened once!”

“Well all those explosions are bound to mess with that noggin o’ yers, ain’t it?”

“Shut it, you monochrome meathead!”

The meeting devolved into pointless bickering yet again, as the Director slumped back in his seat he muttered to himself, “ugh.. How can this get any worse?”

At that exact moment, the door swung open and three short figures made their entrance

“not these tontos again…” Emelia said with a sigh

“Sorry we’re late, Boss! No one told us where the meeting was s’posed to be, also I think you accidentally locked the door, but hey, happens to the best-a us, don’t it?”

“Yes, it does…” The Director responded behind his grit teeth “Do any of you three have something to add?”

“You bet D-man! So me n’ camera was just relaxin, y’see? and lights comes up to us all bright eyed…”

“No, you don’t have to… ugh..”

Action continued to ramble on and on and on about every tiny thing about what happened between the trio in long, excruciating detail, leading to the rogues being literally bored to sleep

Some time later…

“And so camera ovah here being a whiz with tools n’ tinkerin', you can imagine the excitement when they told us it’s actually possible! But heck, what am I doin blabbin about? Lemme just show ya… uhhh.. Did you fall asleep?”

Suddenly the director shot awake, “huh, wha? Oh, sure I’m sure it’s great you three, run along now!” He condescendingly remarked as he began to push the three out the door

“Wait, ya didn’t even-”

“Yes yes, I couldn’t ask for a better backstage!” he continued as he shoved them out before the rest of the team groggily woke themselves 

"Oi, wait a minute.." Igor questioned, "where are those two exactly?"

The Director opened his mouth to respond but quickly stepped down as he had a realization

"Oh don't tell me… you didn't put a tracking device on either of them?" “In my defense, I’d like to see you get a clear shot from a discreet bush in the middle of a war-zone!”

“Point is, how the hell are we finding the targets?” 

“Isn’t it obvious?” Mr Mech answered, “Clearly we’ll just have to split up”

The Director attempted to interrupt, “Wait no, that’s an awful-”

“Well that settles it, I’ll meet you all back when I’ve got those bastards bowing at my feet!”

“Pfft, after you cut 'em with that ridiculous haircut?”

“Why you little…!”

“Ya still got more of a fighting chance than Ms Mariachi over here”

“Oh muerde tu lengua!”

The group proceeded to argue and argue as they went their ways, not even bothering to listen to the input of their leader who could only watch in dismay, he sighed to himself before getting up and retreating to his own office

He gazed at the previous leader’s portrait that hung above the fireplace before opening it up, revealing a single USB stick containing camera footage of when the former leader was shot and killed, “I’ll never forget what happened to you” The director solemnly said

But he quickly changed his tune “but they will…” he sinisterly remarked before throwing the stick into the flames, taking great pride as the only evidence to his deeds burned before his eyes

Ok actually I have accepted the presence and passing of that korean restaurant in my life with gratitude and detachment BUT the food I miss most is the tripa mishky sold in my neighborhood when Nanis used to take us around 5-6pm and get a small yellow plastic bag full of tripe and it was soooooooo gooooood 😭 I've never tried tripa mishky that is as good as that ever again. Maybe it was because I was a child and if I tried the same exact one again it wouldn't be as good but 😢 I miss it...

Also the honeydew melon ice cream and boba tea sold in the states and those korean seaweed snacks from ann arbor I cherished so dearly... Oh my God that lamb shawarma from Saint Marks in NYC.

The pesto and manaba creamy cheese Lino's mom used to make my God. Also that vanilla passionfruit juice I was never able to replicate.

And above all the cow tongue stew Nico's family makes like I would literally pay $500 for that recipe no joke. They cooked so fucking good but that one recipe is genuinely one of the best things I've ever tried in my entire life.
