“God I’m so fucking sick of this semester and it hasn’t even started yet.” You complained, lying on your roommates bed flipping through one of your textbooks for the upcoming semester.
“Relax, at least you have money and you’re smart y/n, you’ll be fine.”
“Easy for you to say, you’re an arts major, not an architecture student.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?!”
“Nothing! It’s just different!”
“Mhm sure I’d love to see you paint a landscape or sculpt something.”
You gave your best friend a dirty look before focusing your attention back to the textbook.
Mia had been your best friend since 2nd grade and she had lived with you since you were 18. She had always been the more artistic one, doing dance from a young age and taking all sorts of art classes whenever she could. Her overall view on life was quite different from yours. She saw the world through the lens of an artist, and an optimist.
Her views on relationships were very different from yours as well, with quite the laundry list of exes, each one more thrilling than the last. You honestly loved hearing all her stories and found it impressive how well she seemed to have the dating game figured out. You on the other hand, could count the men you’d slept with on one hand, and aren’t one for parties or anything like that, preferring to stay home and study or watch a drama.
With your dislike for parties and dating apps, you stayed pretty single. Not that you minded, being too swamped with schoolwork to make time for a real boyfriend anyway. Sometimes you thought about going out to parties and trying to find yourself a hookup but you never followed through, not wanting that kind of intimacy with a stranger.
“Did you see Baekhyun again last night?” She asked casually, knowing all about your work. Although for her, asking if he was there really meant ‘are you going to buy me my lunches again this week’.
“Yeah...” You contemplated for a second if you should tell her, but you quickly decided to just say it, not wanting to keep things from your best friend. “I told him my name. Like my real name.”
Her eyes went wide, definitely surprised by your confession. “Wait seriously? Why?”
“He asked and I just couldn’t tell him no.” You replied, much quieter now.
“Well it’s your choice but that really wasn’t a good idea, he’s already way too into you and now he’s just gonna think he actually has a shot with you.”
“Yeah I know I just.. I can’t explain it but it felt different.”
“He’s just another pervy dude who wants tits in his face! There’s a reason he pays you.”
“He’s not a perv! He’s still a guy of course, but he’s sweet.” You felt a twinge of embarrassment at how quick you were to defend him.
“All that matters about this guy is that he gives you nearly a thousand dollars every night he sees you, right?” You nodded. “You don’t want him thinking he doesn’t have to pay you anymore do you?”
You stayed quiet, because you knew she was right. This was the nature of your relationship with Baekhyun, and straying from what you had with him now just meant opening yourself up to the possibility of losing a lot of money, money you needed.
You were kind of surprised by how opposite you and Mia seemed to be in this situation. Usually it was you talking to her about boys, telling her not to make reckless decisions.
“Yeah you’re right. I’m gonna go to bed. I have classes starting pretty early tomorrow.” You told her as you left her room for yours.
You needed to sleep, but your conversation with her left you with the same uneasy feeling you’d had after last seeing Baekhyun. The longer you stared at your ceiling, the more you felt like you did the right thing telling him your name. He really liked you and it probably made his day, and you knew he wouldn’t use it against you in any way. He was too nice for that.  What’s the worst that could happen, right?
~
The first few classes of the day had gone okay. Your physics and statics professors didn’t seem like complete assholes, and you only had one class left for the day, philosophy. Part of you was annoyed you even needed to take the class, since you wouldn’t exactly consider yourself a very “deep” person, but you figured it would be easy enough.
Being the good student you are, you decided to get there early to get a seat close to the front to make a good impression on the professor. When you arrived the previous class hadn’t finished yet, so you sat down on a bench nearby and opened a book.
“Hey, are you waiting for philosophy class too?”
You looked up to see a rather cute boy, books in hand, looking down at you with a smile on his face.
“Yeah, do I know you?”
“I’m Lucas.” He sticks his hand out for you to shake, so you do and he sits down next to you. “Are you a philosophy major?”
“No, architecture. And I’m y/n.”
“Damn you must be really smart then! I’m a business major.”
“You also just have to take this for the humanities credit?”
“Yeah, but I’m excited, the professor seems cool I met him earlier today.”
“Really? What’s he like?”
“Super cool and smart, kind of young, but like a genius.”
“Yeah well hopefully he’s nice too. Especially with grading”
Lucas laughed and you noticed the previous class leaving the lecture hall so you got up and made your way in, sitting down in the second row, Lucas sitting down next to you. The professor hadn’t showed up yet so you turned to Lucas again, making small talk to pass the time. As you talked to him you realized he was actually fairly funny, although not the smartest. You had to admit though, he was pretty damn handsome. He had to be an entire foot taller than you, with beautifully tanned skin and a smile that would make any girl weak in the knees.
“Are you going to any parties this weekend? I’m going to one at my buddies frat Friday night if you wanna be my date.”
You frowned “Sorry, I don’t really do parties.”
You could see the disappointment on his face. “Damn really? Well if ever change your mind you can text me.” He said as he scribbled something down and slid a piece of paper with his number on it across the table to you.
You internally cringed, but took the paper anyway and give him a small thank you. You weren’t lying when you said you didn’t do parties, but you still felt bad shooting him down, especially since he was actually pretty cute. That was the problem with you and dating in college. No matter how cute a guy was, what they wanted and what you wanted rarely added up well.
You’d bought your textbook already so you decide to get back to looking through it before class started. You also just wanted an excuse to stop talking to Lucas. You got lost in the book, finding yourself surprisingly interested in different moral theories and types of ethical arguments.
“Ahem.”
You heard who you assumed to be your professor and looked up, not expecting to see Baekhyun of all people smirking back at you. Fucking smirking.
You almost choked on air when you realized who you were looking at. Not only was it Baekhyun of all people standing in front of you, but he was wearing a fitted white button down and slacks with his hair styled out of his face, and glasses abandoned on his podium. He looked hot. You felt your face getting warmer and warmer.
“Hey you ok?” Lucas asked, having seen your reaction to Professor Byun.
“What? Yeah I’m totally fine why wouldn’t I be?” You responded, too loudly. Loudly enough that Baekhyun noticed. And laughed.
“Do you guys know each other or something?”
“Don’t be ridiculous.” You told him while giving Baekhyun your best version of a death stare, but he didn’t seem to care.
“Hello everyone I’m Mr. Byun, I’ll be your philosophies of life professor.” He said, starting the lecture with a fairly neutral look on his face, although you noticed him looking in your direction often, and smiling.
You had to admit, he was smart. Not that you were particularly surprised, he seemed fairly intelligent from the conversations you’d had with him at work, but granted those weren’t always the most intellectual conversations either. The way he explained what you had read in the book was both interesting and informative, but you couldn’t focus on him talk about Socrates when just two days earlier you had been grinding on him, and had even let him touch you. Especially when he looked like that now. Your whole body felt hot and you knew you were probably as red as a tomato.
You tried your best to focus on what he was saying for the sake of your grade, but he wasn’t making it easier by the way he kept looking in your direction with that smile on his face. Now, often looking you directly in the eyes with the same intensity from the club. Only this time, while sounding incredibly, frustratingly, smart.
As much as you tried, you couldn’t focus. Not when you had to process the fact that Baekhyun was now your college professor, and knew way more about you and your life than you ever wanted him to. You were hit with the realization that he now also knew you’d lied to him about nearly everything.
You became painfully aware of how you looked compared to him. While he looked exquisite in his business-casual attire, you had barely rolled out of bed in time to throw your hair up in a messy top knot and apply some mascara. Your hoodie and leggings combo wasn’t your best either, and you started feeling more and more embarrassed by the second.
Every other time Baekhyun had seen you, you had been dressed in expensive lingerie with your hair and makeup done perfectly. You had always been the one in control of the situation. Now, you only felt small and underdressed.
After what felt like hours he finally ended the lecture. But he wasn’t done yet, not with you at least. And you could tell by the way he was staring at you, smile now gone and replaced with a much more serious  expression. As soon as he dismissed everyone to leave, you frantically started shoving your things in your bag, trying to get out of the room as quickly as possible but your hands were shaking so badly that you ended up fumbling and dropping most of what you’d been holding.
“Shit, shit, shit” you whispered to yourself as you desperately reached for your belongings, feeling Baekhyun’s eyes on you, but it was too late and right after you saw the last student leave the lecture hall, you heard your name.
“Y/n come here.”
Not really having the option to say no, you walked up to him, trying to look as annoyed as possible.
“You look cute like this, without the heels and everything. I like it.” He said, now smiling down at you. Despite the mocking feeling of the statement, his face was soft now, the smug smirk from earlier gone.
Baekhyun was absolutely thrilled. The girl he usually looked forward to seeing all week long was right in front of him now, within reach. And he’d get to you see you much more now as well. He had to keep himself from looking too happy since he knew you weren’t in nearly as good a mood as him.
You’d never wanted to disappear as badly as you did in that moment. Here, Baekhyun was the one with all the power, and you despised it. He was the one all dressed up and making all the rules. You felt small and embarrassed, having little choice but to listen to whatever it is was he had to say to you. You hated the feeling.
“What do you want?”
“You lied to me.” His face didn’t look angry at all, just blank, void of any emotion.
“Why are you making me do this can I please just leave?” You asked, hoping he’d have some sympathy but you have no such luck.
No answer
“Baekhyun, please. Just let me go home and switch into a different section.” You look at him with pleading eyes, wanting this nightmare to be over.
His face hardened, now slightly annoyed.
“Professor Byun, and I’m afraid you’re stuck with me y/n. I’m the only one teaching this class this semester.”
“Well, fuck” You muttered, looking down at the floor.
“Is that how you speak to your professors?”
Your head snapped back up, and you narrowed your eyes at him.
“You know, y/n, I’m not mad that you lied to me. I should’ve assumed as much. After you told me your name and I saw it on the attendance sheet I had been hoping you’d been lying.” He still looked annoyed, but his face had softened a bit.
“Oh fuck off Baekhyun”
Immediately his expression went sour again, jaw clenched and brown furrowed.
“Here it’s Mr. Byun. And don’t use that language with me again, I’m serious.”
“Why are you doing this?”
“What do you mean? I didn’t know you’d be here. It was just yesterday that I even realized your name was on my roll sheet.”
He had a point. He couldn’t have planned this, you’d signed up for the class months ago and he didn’t even know your name until two nights ago.
“Why aren’t you freaking out then? Shouldn’t you be worried about having me in your class?”
He only let out a chuckle.
“Why would I be worried? As far as I’m concerned this only means I get to see you more often, which I’m fine with. And you need to pass this class to graduate on time, so shouldn’t you be glad you’re already friends with your professor?”
You knew it wasn’t what he intended, but the smile on his face felt like it was mocking you.
“Yeah. Friends.” You scoffed. “Can I go home now?”
“So this is your last class of the day?”
You internally cursed yourself for giving up that bit of information.
“Yeah. Now can I leave?”
“Well you’re not in a hurry are you? Since you don’t have anywhere to be after this.”
“Baekhyuuun” you whined “please, this sucks, just let me go home.”
He smiled, seemingly amused by you begging him.
“Okay. I’m not gonna make you stay any longer since you obviously don’t want to. But let me make it clear, I’m not gonna go easy on you here just because I like you. You still have to try.”
“Okay, that’s fine.” You reply, picking your bag up to leave, wondering what exactly he meant by like you.
“I’m really looking forward to reading your essays by the way.”
He flashed you a smile as you finally turned to leave, and you hated yourself for not doing a better job at looking mad. As much as you hated to admit it, he had a damn beautiful smile.
“See you on Wednesday!” He shouted after you as you left the room. You didn’t respond.
When you arrived back at your apartment your mind started to fill with panicked thoughts. He wouldn’t come to the club anymore now would he? That meant having to try to mingle with strangers again, something you hated about your work. It also meant less money. It’s not often that customers bought hour long dances.
And what if he did show up again? How would you even act around him? Part of you wanted him to for the easy money, but you just couldn’t imagine grinding on your professor. Your face heated up just at the thought, especially since you knew he could look that good now. Would you even be able to give him a lap dance without losing your own mind?
You had trouble processing the fact that this was even able to happen. You’d  never thought to ask Baekhyun for his last name, and since it had been summer break he didn’t mention his job. The whole situation seemed bizarre.
And what about class? Will he make it more difficult if he doesn’t get what he wants?
No. Baekhyun isn’t like that, you tell yourself. As much as you disliked having him in a position of power over you, you’d gotten to know him well enough to know that he wouldn’t abuse it.
The more you’d gotten to know him the more you liked spending time with him rather than other customers, regardless of the money. And for good reason. The longer you knew Baekhyun, the more you realized he wasn’t like the other guys who came to the club. You could tell he was good, decent guy.
He was always there to see you, and only you. You had several other regulars, but none of them had any qualms about talking to and getting dances from other girls. Not that you minded, but you’d never seen Baekhyun even speak to another dancer.
He’s also just nice. The kind of nice that you don’t see in people often anymore. He was always incredibly respectful and would never do anything you weren’t comfortable with. Very few of the guys you came in contact with cared at all if they made you uncomfortable. They’d just assume that’s a part of the job for you.
Baekhyun was actually interesting to talk to as well. Since you’d met him at the beginning of summer, he usually told you about adventures he went on with his friends, most of whom you knew from the night they’d dragged him into the club.
They were a genuinely cool group of people. The one he was closest with, Chanyeol, was a music producer, another named Kyungsoo was an up and coming actor, and the one who’d introduced himself as Jongin was a professional dancer. Chanyeol had been the one to come with the idea of taking Baekhyun to the club in the first place.
Baekhyun would tell you anecdotes from nights out he’d had with them during college, as well as other wild stories and you’d often find yourself laughing and smiling so hard your face hurt. Ever since your first night with him, you noticed how good he was at making the people around him feel at ease. He always knew what to say and when to make people laugh.
Baekhyun was different from the other men at work because you liked being around him. You’d be lying to yourself if you said you didn’t find him attractive either. If you’d met him anywhere else, and he wasn’t your professor, you’d probably be more than willing to go on a date with him.
But unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
You tore yourself out of your thoughts and realized how late it had gotten. Although it was only the first day, you already had homework you needed to start on. You spent the rest of the evening trying to be productive, but you couldn’t stop thinking about Baekhyun. How good he had looked, how attractive he sounded giving the lecture, how he wouldn’t stop looking at you.
He was going to be much more present in your life now, whether you liked it or not.
                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wednesday morning Baekhyun felt stupid for how excited he was to see you. He’d decided to get up early to work some exercise into his day, and hopefully clear his mind, but even as he took a shower and started getting ready to leave for work, he couldn’t get you out of his head. He’d decided to wear something a bit more casual and stylish, opting for a new pair of glasses, striped red t shirt, and cream slacks. He tried to make other excuses for why he wanted to look nice but in the back of his mind, he knew he wore it because he wanted to look good in front of you.
During the class before yours he noticed a female student in the first row chewing on the back of her pencil as she very intentionally leaned over her desk to grab a pen, putting her cleavage on display to him.
He only rolled his eyes, but he was pleased to see that his outfit was getting good reactions. He just hoped you’d like it.
When the class before yours left, Baekhyun felt his heart rate go up. What if you’d found a way to get out of his class? Would you even show up? Or if you did, would you just end up sitting as far from him as possible?
Usually he’d leave to go get a coffee during his break between giving lectures, but today he stayed in case you came early again. As the minutes went by students started to fill the lecture hall. Baekhyun couldn’t help but keep his eyes fixed on the door every time he heard it open, but he just kept seeing everyone but you.
A minute before class started, you walked in and sat down in the second to last row.
Baekhyun felt his face light up as soon as saw you, only to immediately turn into a frown when he saw where you chose to sit down. It was as he’d suspected, you wanted to be as far away from his as possible. But at least you were there.
As Baekhyun started the lecture, he couldn’t help looking in your direction every few seconds. Even though you were in casual clothes without any fancy hairstyle or makeup, this was the version of you Baekhyun loved seeing the most. He was used to the perfected product you presented yourself as at your job, and he knew that wasn’t the real you. This was. You in leggings and a t shirt, your hair messily falling over your shoulders as you scribbled down notes. He could watch you like this all day. He noticed how your brows would furrow in confusion whenever he’d bring up a new concept, and how you chewed on your bottom lip when you were concentrating. Ever since he’d seen you like this on Monday, he couldn’t get enough. It was you, the real you.
He also noticed how you seemed to look everywhere in the room except for at him. You spent as much time as possible with your head down taking notes, even when there wasn’t much to write down. Other times your eyes would stay glued to the power point slides, or wander around the walls and ceilings. He understood why you weren’t exactly comfortable looking at him.
Despite being on the other side of the room, he was still able to pick up on little things. He noticed your leg bouncing, fingers tapping on the desk, and how much you would fidget when you weren’t writing notes.
He knew you were uncomfortable, and he hated it. He hated himself for being the reason. He wished there was something he could do or say that would make you enjoy being in his class more. Anything that would make you feel more at ease with him in this situation. If he wasn’t the only one teaching the class he wouldn’t have minded if you’d switched to a different professor, if it meant you were more comfortable. Of course he would’ve missed seeing you, but he also knew that was a selfish thought. He felt guilty that you had to be there and be uncomfortable because of him.
At the end of the lecture he gave the class their first proper assignment, a short essay analyzing Plato's “The Ring of Gyges”. It was an assignment he always gave at the very beginning of the semester, since it was a quite difficult read and gave him a good idea of how everyone would do in the class.
He was especially excited to see how you would do.
When class ended, you were the first one to leave and this time he didn’t stop you. He knew you wanted to leave and didn’t want to bother you again, still feeling slightly sorry for how late he’d kept you the first day. He’d only done it to try to reassure you about having him as your professor, but he hadn’t been expecting you to be as distressed about it as you were. In hindsight he realized he’d probably only made things more stressful for you.
Once the room was empty aside from him he packed up his things and left as well, hoping that you could become less anxious over time, and eventually, maybe even enjoy being in his class.
For now though, class had not been something for you to look forward to at all. You’d been dreading it ever since Monday afternoon.
That morning as you were getting ready, you tried to make yourself look a bit more presentable than you’d looked Monday, not wanting to live through the embarrassment of seeing Baekhyun look so nice while you were basically wearing pajamas again.
For the first half of your day you threw yourself into your other class work, successfully taking him off your mind for a while, but when your physics class ended and your next class was with him you felt yourself starting to panic.
You thought about skipping class, but you cared too much about your grade. You decided your best choice was to just get there as late as possible and sit as close to the door as you could so he wouldn’t be able to get you to stay after class again.
As you walked across campus you felt yourself get more and more nervous. Despite being there 20 minutes early and the room being open to sit down in, you sat down outside. As the minutes drew closer to class starting you felt your heart start to race and had trouble controlling your breathing. One minute before class was to start you got up, walked over to the door, and took a few deep breaths to calm yourself down a bit. You pushed open the door with shaky hands, and the second you could see into the room you notice Baekhyun's eyes on you, and his beautiful smile. You quickly looked down and hurried to the closest available seat in the back of the room, cringing at yourself.
As much as you wished you could, you couldn’t just ignore Baekhyun. He was the professor, you had to listen to him. But you had a hard time doing anything when he looked like he did. His shirt showed off his broad shoulders and he was wearing different glasses now too. He looked even better than he had on Monday. Had it not been for you already knowing him, you probably would’ve found him distracting for different reasons. You did everything you could not to look at him directly, knowing he’d catch you and see you blush. But who wouldn’t blush if he was staring at them while looking like that? You could tell some of the other girls in the class liked his outfit as well by the way they whispered to each other while shooting glances his way.
You wondered if maybe this was something he did often, if he liked starting things with students. If maybe his whole nice guy persona was fake and he really was just another scumbag.
But you soon realized that was just the bitterness speaking. You wouldn’t admit it to yourself but the thought of other girls trying to seduce him was bothering you. Baekhyun wasn’t a scumbag, not when he’d dedicated his life to teaching people about ethical issues and moral arguments.
As the class went on you couldn’t help but fidget and shift around in your seat. Even though you were avoiding looking at him, you knew his eyes were on you for much of the lecture. You’d figured it would be like this.
As it got closer and closer to the end of class you felt yourself get more and more panicked at the thought of him keeping you after again. You didn’t know what he could possibly keep you after for, but you didn’t want to stick around and find out, so as soon as he dismissed the class you nearly ran out without looking back.
“Hey, y/n!”
The sound of your name nearly gave you a heart attack, thinking it was Baekhyun who was going to force you to talk to him like this again but when you saw Lucas waving at you, you let out a relieved sigh.
“Hi Lucas.”
“I thought you’d come sit by me again today what happened?” He asked.
“Sorry about that, I was almost late today so I didn’t want to walk out there in front of the whole class” you said, hoping he wouldn’t see through your lie.
“Well I hope next time you’ll sit with me again.”
You managed to give him a small smile and nod, still a bit too frazzled over everything to want to talk to him.
“I have to get home, but I’ll se you Friday. Bye Lucas.” You waved at him as you went in the opposite direction.
You felt bad for not talking to him any longer, but you just weren’t in the right headspace.
On your walk home you felt weird. Had it really been that bad? Or were you just overreacting? Although he did look at you a lot Baekhyun seemed to teach the class as if everything was normal, more or less unaffected by your presence. He hadn’t seemed to mind your leaving either. Maybe he’d hadn’t planned to make you stay again. Maybe, it seemed, he was going to leave you be.
You knew Lucas would bother you about it if you didn’t sit with him again next time, but would you be okay to sit that close to the front again? Or even worse what if Lucas caught on that there was something going on between you and Baekhyun? He’d already seemed suspicious on the first day.
You decided your best course of action was to just do it and tough it out. All you needed to do was act like you did in all your other classes and everything would be fine right?
First however, you had to go home and face your roommate and tell her about this nightmare, having bottled it up until now. You weren’t exactly sure why you hadn’t told her right away. Maybe you felt strange about it since she had already told you you needed to keep him from getting any closer to you. Obviously that wasn’t going to be easy now.
As soon as you got home and put your things away you knocked on her door.
“YEAH?” You heard her yell through the door.
“Can I come in?”
“One second!”
A little while later the door opened.
“What’s up?”
“Can we have a girls night? I have some shit I need to tell you.”
You couldn’t remember the last time you saw Mia look so excited.
“You?? Have tea for ME??? Fuck yes!”
You thought about it, and this was pretty rare. 90% of the time she was the one unloading her boy problems on you, or any other kind of drama too for that matter. Not that you minded, that was just the dynamic you had gotten used to.
“Wanna order some food and put on a movie?” You asked.
“Sure.”
Your food eventually arrived and you put on a chick flick you’ve both seen a thousand times.
“So?? Are you gonna tell me what’s going on or what?” She asked turning to you, obviously looking forward to whatever you were about to fill her in on.
You sighed.
“So my philosophy professor this semester...” You swallowed, now having trouble getting yourself to say it.
“I know this sounds fucking insane but, Baekhyun’s my philosophy professor.”
The look on her face told you everything you need to know. The two of you had known each other for so long that words weren’t needed.
“I don’t know how it happened either. I signed up for the class forever ago anyway, before I even met him at the club. Just a bizarre coincidence. And he’s the only one teaching it and I need the credit to graduate so I'm stuck.”
“Shit dude.”
“Yeah I know. He kept me after class Monday and it was a fucking nightmare.”
“What did he say?”
“Basically just that I’m stuck with him. He also called me out for lying about what university I go to at work. And he said he liked me better ‘like this’ whatever the hell that means”
“He’s like obsessed with you isn’t he? He’s probably over the moon that he has a way into your personal life now which really fucking sucks for you.” She had a point. “Do you think he’ll still come see you at work?”
“I honestly really don’t wanna think about that right now.”
“Be careful, y/n. A customer having a crush on you is one thing but having him in charge of your grade is another. What if he starts trying to make moves on you and you shoot him down? He could fuck up your GPA just to get back at you or something.”
“No.” You responded, perhaps a bit too quickly. “No, Baekhyun isn’t like that. He’s not a bad guy, and I don’t think he’ll try anything anyway.”
“Really?”
“I’m not sure of course but he’s also a lot older than us and this is his job, I can’t see him risking his livelihood just for me.”
“He’s a college professor who’s giving you a thousand dollars a week, how does he even have that kind of money anyway? No way he gets paid enough as a professor to be giving you that much. He either has some other source of income or you’re already making him broke.”
You felt stupid for not having considered that yet. How the hell was he giving you so much? She was right, unless he was secretly rich or something there was no way he could afford to give you so much money every week without fucking himself over. Your stomach started to churn with the idea of him possibly even putting himself in debt just for your Saturday nights together. He couldn’t be that stupid right?
She could tell how much the conversation was stressing you out at that point.
“Listen,” she said, grabbing your hand “you just need to get through the semester. You can handle 16 weeks, class with him will get less awkward, and hopefully he’s at least smart enough not to come see you at work anymore now.”
The thought of him not coming anymore wasn’t a good one either though. You made much more money when he was there, and in under 2 hours. Staying at the club until 3am with school going on now, only to take home less money wasn’t really a good option either.
“I don’t wanna see him there but I need his money.”
“You’ll find some other guy who’s rich and in love with you soon enough, don’t worry, it’ll all be fine.” She said, pulling you in for a hug.
“Yeah..”
You knew she was just trying to make you feel better, but realistically you weren’t going to find another guy like Baekhyun at work, Even if someone came along who gave you as much money as he did, they wouldn’t be as fun to talk to, or as respectful as him. Guys like that just don’t come to strip clubs. You still didn’t even fully understand why he did.
“Just think of him as another one of your professors. It might be tough at first, but I think if you can do that you’ll be okay.”
“You’re right, I just need to get my shit together and not let him distract me.”
“See? Of course I’m right.” She grinned, and you couldn’t help but smile back.
Eventually the movie ended, and by then it was late enough for the two of you to get ready for bed.
Talking to your best friend about it had made you feel slightly better. At least whatever happened, she would be there for you to talk it out with. Baekhyun wasn’t a bad person or anything either, it was just the situation that was stressing you out. As long as you could get ahold of yourself enough to focus on his lectures and do well in the class, you’d be fine.
You kept reassuring yourself as you closed your eyes, and for the first night that week you didn’t stare at your ceiling for hours worrying, you went right to sleep.
A/N: so there wasn’t really like, a full plot request so I just kinda went with this...hope you like it!
Outer Banks Masterlist
♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
JJ stood in the entrance to the dressing room, phone in hand as he texted back and forth with Pope and swiped through different online stores. He was shirtless, wearing a pair of actual trousers, a far cry from the cheap ones he used to wear when he bused tables at the island club. He was supposed to be trying on different suits but it’d taken you an hour just to get him into these pants, you couldn’t imagine how the rest of the shopping trip was going to go.
“Matching sweatshirts?” JJ asked, holding his phone out to show you a picture of dorky matching sweatshirts that said ‘player 1’ and ‘player 2’ respectively.
You fought the urge to roll your eyes as you rubbed a hand against your forehead and took a deep breath. You should have known that trying to shop would go south with JJ. “I love you so much but there is no way in hell I’m wearing matching sweatshirts with you.”
“I can’t believe you’re not gonna wear matching sweatshirts with me.” JJ whined, pulling his phone away to send the picture to Pope. “I’m gonna get a new girlfriend who will.”
“Ask Pope.”
“I am.” He replied, continuing to text.
“Not right now JJ! You’re supposed to be getting a suit anyway, not standing around on your phone shopping for cheesy sweatshirts.” You sighed, finally standing up from the ottoman that was available for seating outside the dressing room. You tried to grab his phone from him but he slid away, socked feet gliding on the laminated floor. He backed further into the dressing area, toward the stall you’d ushered him into earlier.
“What if you didn’t have to wear it out?” He asked, holding his phone out of reach when you tried to grab it again. As much as you enjoyed the sight of JJ in nothing but a pair of nice pants, and you did enjoy the sight quite a lot, he was starting to get on your last nerve. Especially when he wrapped his arm around you and pulled you against him, still holding the phone away with his other hand.
“So what I’m just gonna walk around our house wearing a sweatshirt?” You asked. The little blue ranch house that you and JJ were renting on the cut was set back a little from the road but it wasn’t entirely void of neighbors. Not to mention the amount of times any of the pogues dropped in without warning. When you looked up at him you realized his eyes had glazed over, pupils dilated as he stared, completely unashamed, right down the front of your tank top. “JJ!”
“What...you in only a sweatshirt? Let’s skip all this and go straight to the honeymoon.” He suggested, grinning as he leaned in to kiss you.
You let him, though you finally gave in to the eyeroll as he pulled away from you. It was like trying to corral a child into doing something. “Not exactly doing the big tent wedding here J. Now pick a suit.”
“But if you don’t have to go out?” He whined, mind still on his stupid sweatshirt idea. You’d never matched clothes before and you’d heard him on more than one occasion mock couples who did, so why he was suddenly interested in the cheesy tradition was beyond you.
“Oh my god, buy the sweatshirt, please.” You groaned, stepping completely away and heading back out of the dressing room, “but finish trying on suits first!”
“Love you!”
Your mom wanted a big wedding with all the people she was friends with invited as well as family members none of you had even seen in your lifetime but you had refused. It felt silly to do the big white wedding, silly and costly and not like you and JJ at all. The money saved for it had been spent on converting a VW bus that was a nicer version of the Twinkie, that he had parked out front of the house you’d been renting together since you turned nineteen.
Still, even without the wedding, you wanted a semi-nice dress and him in a suit when the two of you went to City Hall at the end of the week to get married.
Married. You were waiting for the word to make you feel different but so far it just felt normal. Like it was just supposed to happen.
-
“Why are your eyes covered?” You laughed, walking into the living room to see JJ standing there in his suit with his hands covering his eyes. He’d obviously just been smoking before you came in because his juul was still in his hand too, trapped between his fingers.
“I don’t wanna see you before the wedding!” He exclaimed.
“You’re driving,” You laughed, grabbing at his hands. When you pulled them away he had his eyes shut. “JJ, open your eyes.”
He opened one eye and then the other, slowing smiling as he took in the sight of you in the simple white dress, you’d picked out with Sarah a few weeks ago. It’d been sitting wrapped up in the closet so he couldn’t see it without you in it. “You look really beautiful.” He finally said, kissing you. “You’d look even more beautiful in matching sweatshirts.” JJ teased.
“Oh my god JJ. I’m not wearing matching sweatshirts to get married.” You replied, taking the juul from him so you could put it away.
“Then I guess the dress works.”
“Wow thanks.” You laughed.
Before you could walk away from him JJ grabbed your arm, drawing your attention back to him. “Hey, before we go-“
“We have like thirty minutes to get there.” You said, cutting him off. There was no way the two of you were going to make it in time.
“It’ll be quick, promise.”
“What?”
“I know we’re not doing vows but I didn’t exactly get any points for a romantic proposal either...considering. So I just wanted to say something before we leave, without everyone else around.”
JJ’s ‘proposal’ had come about on a Tuesday morning. It wasn’t romantic, there wasn’t even a ring picked out yet. Instead JJ had been sitting on the other side of the island, trying to steal pieces of bacon off of Pope’s plate while he was in the bathroom, when you told him that your mom was giving you a hard time about the two of you living together.
Your mom’s favorite words were ‘just a phase’ when she talked about you and JJ. It was just a phase that you were going through that had you attracted to someone she viewed as a ‘bad boy’ in every cliched sense of the term. Though you highly doubted at 22 that it was a phase. Especially when you’d spent the last ten years basically dating. Since the 6th grade winter formal when JJ asked you to dance with him.
“She said ‘once you get out from under that roof you’ll see’ and I told her that I’m never moving. We’re gonna like get married and get a cat and have windchimes like Lana.” You had said, smacking JJ’s hand, “stop eating Pope’s food.”
“He abandoned it.” JJ pointed out.
“He’s in the bathroom, stop it.” You said, waving the spatula at him. “Anyway...she just...” you groaned, “I can’t stand when she does that like. We’re not in highschool anymore. Why can’t she drop the whole ‘this is temporary’ thing like...do you see these four walls? Not temporary.”
“Marry me?”
“What?” You froze, spatula in hand, staring at him in surprise.
“Marry me.” He shrugged. “You said it yourself, this isn’t temporary. So, marry me.”
The wedding day, though it wasn’t really a wedding, had come quicker than the two of you had expected and now, if you weren’t out the door in five minutes, you knew that you’d be late. JJ was an erratic driver but nothing would get you to the other side of the island on time.
“You’re gonna make me cry before we even get to the courthouse?” You asked, already feeling yourself get teared up. “That’s mean JJ.”
“I just want you to know,” He started to say, trying not to laugh when he realized you were starting to cry, “hey, come on...I didn’t even say anything yet.”
“I know, I know I just-” you looked up at the ceiling and blinked a few times, “oh god this mascara isn’t waterproof.”
“We’ll survive if your makeup doesn’t stay intact.” He promised.
“JJ!” You laughed. “Okay fine, go, I won’t cry. I just...won’t look at you.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“Just say the thing.” You insisted, waving your hand for him to go ahead.
“When I asked you to marry me it was spur of the moment but it wasn’t just something I said because I thought it’d be fun or cute or whatever. We’ve been through...hell...together and I know how hard it's been and there isn’t any guarantee that it won’t be hard-”
“That sounds awesome,” you laughed but JJ could already hear the slight crack in your voice.
“-shut up. You never let me finish anything.”
“I do too!”
“You literally just interrupted me trying to be nice and tell you something romantic.”
“I’m sorry...go ahead.”
“No, the moment’s ruined.” JJ shrugged, grabbing his backpack off the table so that the two of you could leave.
You grabbed JJ’s hand, trying to pull him back toward the middle of the living room and away from the door, “no finish, tell me!”
“Fine, fine. You’re such a brat.” He laughed, “I was gonna say-”
The door opened and you groaned as Pope stuck his head in, “yo...guys, lets go.”
“Hold on!” You whined and JJ wrapped his arms around you, holding you close and kissing your forehead.
“I’ll tell you later, while we’re in our matching sweatshirts.”
“Unbelieveable.”
Ocean Eyes - Part 9
Tumblr media
A/N: Finally another chapter is done! 😂
Please like/share/comment, It makes me write more when i know you’re all enjoying it 💕💕
Chris opened up the back door and Dodger jumped out making a run for the house while i unstrapped Mason from his car seat. When i turned Lisa was already walking towards us with a huge smile on her face, Scott walking beside her.
"Hey Ma" Chris called out greeting his mom with a quick wave.
"Hey baby" she smiled coming to a stop in front of us "Y/N.....its so good to see you sweetheart!" She pulled me into a hug and squeezed me tight, i couldnt help but smile and return her hug.
"Hey Lisa, its good to see you too"
"Okay okay, enough! Where's my hug?" Scott asked pouting at me, i laughed and gave him a quick hug.
"Oh my god, you must be Mason" i heard Lisa say "he's a spitting image of you Chris.... i mean wow"
"Mason say hi, this is your Nana Lisa"
"Hi" he said quietly clinging to my leg.
"Oh you're gonna act all shy now bud? You were so excited to meet Nana Lisa before" i stroked his hair smiling down at him "Give him 5 minutes he'll soon be talking your ear off"
"Its fine hun, come on inside i've made some lunch for us all" Lisa said happily and turned to head inside.
"Mace, baby you're gonna have to let go of my leg"
"Come on pal lets go eat" Chris picked Mason up putting him up on his shoulders causing Mason to laugh loudly.
"Oh god be careful...."
"He does this with my sisters kids don't worry he's a pro" Scott laughed throwing an arm around my shoulders and leading me towards the house.
Tumblr media
After lunch i was left with Lisa, we were laughing as we watched Chris, Scott and Mason running around playing some kind of ball game, Scott and Mason were apparently ganging up on Chris.
"I haven't seen him this happy in so long" Lisa suddenly said with a huge smile on her face.
"You haven't?"
"Nope, he's not been the same since you left. He puts on this front of being happy but i know its bullshit"
"He's the one who left" i mumbled quietly.
"Oh i know sweetie, he told me everything, i just mean he's been different since he's not had you in his life".
"When you say everything....."
"I know about the vegas wedding" she smiled "and how you're still married"
"Not for long, i signed the papers again..."
"Are you sure that was the right thing to do?"
"I thought it was done years ago" i shrugged "besides he asked me to sign them because things are getting serious with Lindsey"
"Ugh" Lisa mumbled under her breath but i caught it.
"Not a fan of Lindsey's then?" I chuckled.
"No, not at all! That girl gets on my last nerve"
Mason suddenly run over to us but his attention was on Lisa.
"Nana can i have a drink please?"
"Of course sweetheart" Lisa offered her hand to Mason and he happily accepted following her inside.
"Y/N your kid has worn me out!" Scott said dramatically collapsing on the grass beside me.
"You getting too old Scotty?" i laughed
"Definitely!"
"He'll crash out soon don't you worry"
"Oh thank god" Scott laughed "i might crash first just a word of warning"
"Come on Uncle Scott!" Mason called loudly running back out and diving on Scott.
"You okay?" Chris asked me quietly, i nodded yes with a smile.
Lisa came back out holding up a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses.
"Oh god, my mom's trying to get you drunk" Chris shook his head and laughed.
"I am not! A few glasses of wine with lunch is fine. Besides, you're the one driving not Y/N"
"She's got a point there" i smiled up at Chris wiggling my eyebrows.
"Fine, you ladies have fun" he rolled his eyes looking amused.
"Dad come on!" Mason called from across the yard.
"Okay i'm coming pal" he called back with a smile, every time Mason called him dad he'd light up.... it was the cutest thing i had to admit. Chris's cell phone started ringing and he pulled it out checking who it was, he sighed before answering it and walking away for some privacy. His phone had been ringing all afternoon but he hadn't taken any of the calls until now.
"Lindsey...." i heard him say as he answered the call, i couldn't hear any more than that though. I took a mouthful of my wine trying to act as if i didn't hear who had called Chris, that it didn't effect me.
"You wanna know something?" Lisa suddenly said making me raise my eyebrows at her.
"Sure"
"You and Mason are all that boy of mine talks about, i've not heard him even mention Lindsey"
"I don't know what to do with that information Lisa...."
"Just keep it in mind" she smiled lovingly "its so nice having you back sweetheart, i've missed you"
"I missed you too".
"So tell me, any guys on the scene?"
I laughed and shook my head.
"Honestly? No, well not really"
"So there is someone?"
"No, there's a guy i meet who has asked me out a couple times but...."
"You not interested?"
"If i had met him before Chris showed up  again, i would have accepted in a heart beat. He's so sweet and hot! But its not fair to start something with him while i'm trying to navigate things with Chris and Mason.... i just don't have the time"
"You know it might be what you need..."
"You think i should accept a date with him?"
"I do, Y/N you deserve it"
"Maybe i'll go on one date.... see how it goes" i shrugged "i haven't been on a date in years, i'm so bad at dating"
"You'll do fine sweetie, text him"
"I'll think about it" i chuckled shaking my head, maybe Lisa had a point though....
Tumblr media
Mason was asleep the minute we started the drive back to Chris's, he had done well staying awake as long as he had.
Chris carried him in from the car and put him to bed while i made tea and fed Dodger.
I was sat reading a news report on my phone when Chris came back and sat on the opposite end of the sofa.
"These COVID reports are scary, have you read the latest? They're talking about a lockdown...."
"What?? Are you serious?" He asked raising his eyebrows.
"Yeah look" i passed him my phone to read it for himself.
"Wow this is crazy....."
"Do you think it will happen?"
"I wouldn't be surprised if it did" he shook his head as he continued to read "If it does, i think you and Mason should stay here"
"What...."
"Yeah, i mean... i think it would be best. I can help out with Mason and id know you were both safe"
"Oh... okay" i nodded, i guess it made sense....Besides, Chris wouldn't want to be apart from Mason.
"You'd be okay with that?" He asked me looking a little nervous
"Yeah sure, it makes sense" i shrugged.
"Cool, then thats settled. If this lockdown happens you guys will stay here with me"
"If it happens yeah" i nodded giving him a quick smile. Chris suddenly cleared his throat passing me my phone back.
"You've got a message" he said before getting up and storming off into the kitchen. When i looked at the screen there was a message from Derek.
Derek: Hey, i was so happy to hear from you.
I would still like to take you on that date.
When’s a good time for you?
Oh shit.... Chris just had to see that!
But why did he react like that?? He was with Lindsey! And why did i feel so guilty about it??
au! baker gojo x bookstore owner getou
warnings: none
wc: 2254
The snow fell softly as it crunched under the long-haired man's feet, his cheeks nice and rosy as of course it was winter. The bell rang out signifying that a customer had entered the bakery. He looked around to see decorations being put up with faint Christmas music playing in the background. One of the regulars at his bookstore always told him the fruit tart from the bakery across the street was to die for. Suguru decided that today would be the day for him to try it out, so that’s how he ended up here.
“Oi, old man someone’s here to order! Hurry up,” The girl called out before quickly turning around and instructing the two boys where to put what decorations.
This made Suguru laugh a bit to himself, but he turned around to face the counter, coming face to face with a man he did not expect, he was tall with white hair, and bright blue eyes. A quite attractive young man at that with the softest smile he’s seen in a while.
“Uh hello! Welcome to Satoru’s Bakery, how may I help you today? Sorry for the commotion, we’re setting up decorations,” He said softly.
Suguru blinked twice, before blushing again, he was staring into the man’s eyes.
“Oh well, I’m the owner of the bookstore across from this bakery, and I would like to buy one fruit tart please? I’ve heard they’re to die for,” Suguru said smiling back and Satoru nodded.
“Alright, coming right up!” Satoru said while humming the song playing in the background softly.
Suguru watches as Satoru slips on a glove and carefully slips the fruit tart into some wrapping and then into a winter themed box, taping over some doodle (drawn by Itadori) and then placing the box down while turning to the register typing in the price for the fruit tart.
“That’ll be $3.50 sir. Hello, are you alright? You seem spaced out,” Satoru says with a small laugh after.
Suguru’s heart clenched slightly upon hearing his laughter, before he noticed he found himself laughing with the baker. He handed the money to him with a polite smile while Satoru received the nicely decorated box. Thanking Satoru quickly, he waved goodbye and went out of the shop, the same bell jingling accompanying him.
“He was completely lost in your eyes Satoru,” Nobara said, leaning her head on her hand as she smirked up at him.
Satoru blushed slightly, before waving her off quickly.
“Don’t you have more decor to put missy? Also, don’t call me an old man. I'm only in my late 20s,” Satoru said with a frown.
Nobara laughed a bit but nodded before turning back around to instruct Itadori and Megumi on her vision for the rest of the decorations.
Itadori quickly put down his decoration taking the hands of Nobara and Itadori before pulling them away as Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas played. “What are you doing idiot?” Megumi asked with a sigh.
“Let’s dance together cmon,” Itadori said and the other two gave in, swaying with him slowly.
Satoru walked in with a soft smile, taking a picture of the trio, making a mental note to print it out for the album Satoru has filled with their christmas pictures. Megumi caught Satoru looking at them and quickly pulled him over so they could all dance together. The bakery got busy again after as it was lunch time, so many people would be stopping by. The bakery was split into two, an area to eat, accompanied with an outside area as well, and where people could buy their food. After quite the busy day Satoru found himself sighing while he stretched, he had sent the kids home, he looked out the window to see the bookstore keeper locking up and making his way home, oh how he envied him. Satoru looked back making sure that the birthday cake he was making was in perfect shape, which it was of course. Once he finished, he locked up his bakery and got in his car commencing his drive home.
Satoru slipped on his jacket calling out after Megumi, Satoru had promised to go with him to this place he’s been wanting to go for the past week. Megumi never exactly told him where it was but that it was nearby. Satoru decided to humor the boy as it was the holiday’s and the holiday spirit was quite contagious.
“Okay, you two call me if the shop picks back up ok?” Satoru says while looking at Yuji and Nobara who nodd.
Megumi walks out, his scarf covering half his face Satoru, who insists he bundled up as the temperature was dropping. It’s quite the short walk until they are facing the bookstore, which looks a bit lively. Megumi opens the door, Satoru follows, taking in the space, looking around. The lights were slightly dimmed in some areas, decor was simplistic, nothing too flashy fitting for a bookstore.
“Hey! How can we help you today?” A girl comes up to them with a smile on her face accompanied by what seemed to be her friend.
Megumi began chatting with her about some book while Satoru just peacefully looked around. He decided since he was here he might as well just get something for himself, but he didn’t know what.
“Hey, be careful,” A familiar voice called out, a soft warning, Satoru looked over to see the man that was in his bakery earlier that week.
They both blushed slightly, neither expecting to see the other soon. Meanwhile on the other side of the bookstore three people were busy talking.
“I didn’t know he was a dad, you two look nothing alike?” The one with the ponytail asked, Nanako.
“Yeah, he took in my older half sister and I, she’s off in college right now though. Anyways, I’m glad you two came up with this idea. Do you think it’ll work?” Megumi asked and both girls contemplated.
“I think it will, from what you said, Suguru couldn’t stop staring,” Mimiko said and Megumi nodded.
“I should have brought Nobara with me, she was the one to catch on after all,” Megumi and the two girls nodded.
“Well, let’s go see how they’re doing,” Nanako said and they nodded.
Satoru caught himself staring for a bit, before blushing offering a smile.
“I apologize, I actually want to buy a book but I don’t know which one, do you have any suggestions?” Satoru asked while looking around taking in the rest of the shelves.
“Well, it depends, which kind of genre would you like, Satoru?” Suguru asked softly.
“You remember my name?” Satoru asked, blushing to which Suguru nodded.
“Yeah, I mean it says on your shop as well but, I rarely forget names. Comes as a bonus with owning the store,” Suguru said with a soft laugh after.
“Right, genre hm, I like science fiction? Like Ray Bradbury, got into him recently,” Satoru said and Suguru nodded.
“Oh, good choice, do you want to read more of his works?” Suguru asked to which Satoru nodded his head.
Suguru with a simple gesture motioned for Satoru to follow him, the two of them making small talk, not noticing they had a few eyes trained on them.
“They seem to be hitting it off well Nobara, yeah you were right, take a picture are you insane?” Megumi whispered, his voice as hushed as he could possibly make it.
After slight back and forth he gave into Nobara’s request quickly snapping a picture of the two walking. The two girls laughed slightly, while Megumi just shot them a glance.
“I’ll bring her with me next time, I think you three would get along well,” Megumi said and they nodded.
Soon the pair arrived at the section of shelves Suguru was looking for, he hummed quietly as his eyes roamed. Satoru watched in silence as his hand stopped pulling out a book, handing it to Satoru with a smile. Suguru’s hands felt warm as they brushed against Satoru cold ones, as it was nearly freezing outside. The book was titled the Martian Chronicles, and Satoru quickly flipped it over, scanning the brief summary in the back before looking back up with a smile.
“Well, thank you, I have to go find Megumi, I came in with him,” Satoru said and Suguru nodded slowly.
“When you go to check out, request Suguru and I will ring you up, give you a discount as well,” Suguru said and Satoru nodded, turning away quickly texting Megumi to meet him at the cash register.
Megumi replied with a brief okay and Satoru stood waiting patiently for Megumi to show up. Once he did they both went up to pay the girl they greeted them earlier was going to check them out.
“It’s okay Nana, I can check them out,” Suguru said from behind her with a soft smile.
Megumi put his two books on the counter accompanied by Satoru’s, who began to take out his wallet to pay. Suguru wrote down something on a piece of paper, slipping it in with Satoru’s change.
“Those are some more suggestions if you come back,” Suguru said blushing while rubbing the back of his neck with a smile.
Satoru nodded before heading back over to the shop with Megumi, slipping his change into his pocket. Satoru flipped the note over and saw that Suguru had written down his number on the back with a simple call me when you’re done. Satoru’s face flushed, which Megumi noted but decided to stay silent about it, opting to tell Nobara and Yuji when he got them alone. The bakery seemed to be buzzing, people were sitting down and chatting about the holidays while Nobara and Yuji worked to dish out orders, accompanied by another presence, Tsumiki. Megumi’s eyes widened at seeing his sister home so early, but Satoru beat him to her. He went over hugging her tightly, ruffling her hair after with a smile.
“You’re home early, sorry we weren’t here to greet you, you should have said something,” Gojo said and she smiled softly.
“It was meant to be a surprise, it’s nice to see everyone again,” She said softly, her eyes glancing over to Megumi who was behind Gojo.
“It’s nice to see you Tsumiki,” Megumi said quietly with a nod before putting his books away.
Gojo sighed as Megumi was always like this when his sister came back, granted the two of them had a rocky relationship after she left for college. Tsumiki just smiled softly, while asking Satoru what he needed help with within the bakery. After a few more hours of the shop being busy they soon closed, Satoru making sure to drop off Nobara and Yuji this time, as he opted to come in early in the morning to set up. The drive was silent on their way home, tension between Tsumiki and Megumi a bit higher than anticipated. Satoru knew it would be like this for the first two days and then things would be fine after so he didn’t worry much. He quickly showered when he got home, and then sat down on his bed pulling out the book he got earlier. His phone rang, he looked at the contact name, it was Shoko calling him how odd.
“Hey, everything alright?” Satoru asked, obviously surprised.
“Yeah yeah, now… WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME YOU HAD A CRUSH?” Shoko yelled in the phone as Satoru held it away from his ear.
Satoru was a bit confused as to what she was on about until he looked down at the paper slip he was holding in his hand, everything clicking.
“Shoko, who told you? And anyways it’s not a crush he’s just kind of handsome, you’re always pressing the gas with these things,” Satoru said with a soft sigh.
Pressed up against his door was Tsumiki and Megumi, who had Yuji and Nobara on the line listening in on Shoko and Gojo’s conversation.
“See I told you Goomi, it was a good idea to tell Shoko,” Yuji said with a triumphant smile.
“Alright alright, let’s all calm down so we don’t get busted,” Megumi said with a sigh.
Tsumiki had an all knowing smile on her face as she looked at the way they interacted, Satoru definitely would owe her money by the end of the holiday big time. She heard Satoru stop talking and grabbed Megumi, quickly pulling him into the kitchen. The two of them quickly began to talk, while Satoru walked into the kitchen making himself a cup of hot chocolate.
“Don’t stay up too late, tomorrow is Saturday and you know how crazy the shop gets, off to bed c’mon,” Gojo said and the two nodded while going off into their rooms.
“Do you think they’ll go on a date soon?” Nobara asked, a hopeful tone to her voice.
“They seem to be hitting it off well, so far so I think so yeah,” Yuji said and Megumi nodded.
“Have you two been on dates before?” Nobara asked while yawning after it was getting late.
“I’ve only been on one,” Yuji said with a sigh holding onto his pillow tighter.
“I’ve been on none, the three of us should go on one sometime,” Megumi suggested with a small blush.
“Yeah that’d be nice, well you heard Gojo, we better get to bed,” Nobara said.
With that the three of them hung, letting themselves fall asleep peacefully.
Fluff 3 and 9 with Hannah and either WinWin or Xiaojun pretty please
hiii! i made this with one with xiaojun if you don’t mind :3 thanks for the request luv!!! 🥰 we need more whipped/shy xiaojun tbh ✊🏻
italics for this drabble means mandarin instead of english~
prompts: “Have you seen my hoodie?” “Nooo.” “You’re wearing it, aren’t you?”, “Sleep over? Please?”
Tumblr media
Hannah was walking back to the practice room with Jaemin when her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID a little confused. Jaemin looked over her shoulder.
“Why’s Xiaojun hyung calling you?”
“I don’t know, Nana. Hold on, Let me just pick it up. Hi, gege.”
“Hey, have you seen my hoodie?”
“Nooo.”
“You’re wearing it, aren’t you?”
Hannah looked down at the black hoodie that drowned her figure then looked at Jaemin who shrugged and opened the door to the practice room.
“No,” she drew out.
“Yes, you are,” Xiaojun chuckled. Like a ghost, he appeared right in front of her and hung up his phone. “When did you even get this?”
“Sorry, gege,” Hannah apologized. “I thought it belonged to Jaehyun oppa. I’ll give it back.”
“No, it’s okay,” Xiaojun reassured her with a soft smile. “Keep it on. It looks nice.”
Hannah smiled up at him before running over to Taeyong to ask about the schedules for the whole of November. Somehow, she had managed to drag Shotaro with her.
Xiaojun watched fondly as the younger girl listened to their leader excitedly. He never thought he’d get used to having a girl in his group, but he found himself a little too fond of Hannah. He was confused about how Yangyang had gotten so close to her even before the big project. He was also even more confused on how Hendery could ask her over to the WayV dorms to hangout and vice versa without a struggle.
He remembered asking Lucas how to get close to Hannah, but Lucas’s idea sounded a little far fetched. The older 99 liner had told him that he slept over at the Lee siblings dorm back in 2017 when they were first preparing for the NCT 2018 project. He found it a little bit off, but Lucas insisted that Hannah loved having sleepovers with other members. How could Lucas ask the Hannah for a sleepover that easily when they weren’t close yet?
“Gege? Dejun gege, are you still here?”
Xiaojun was brought back to reality when he heard the very person taking up his mind talking to him. On accident, he said the first thing that came to mind.
“Sleepover? Please?”
Hannah blinked slowly, a little confused at the his sudden request. He thought he had made a mistake until Hannah gave him a soft smile.
“I was asking you if you wanted to come over for dinner with me and Taro, but a sleepover is a better idea! You can borrow clothes from Mark, Channie, or Taro!”
Hannah then skipped away to ask the other boys to come over to the Lee siblings +Sungchan and Shotaro dorm because she was going to cook that night. Xiaojun sighed a little bit and pulled out his phone to text Lucas and Yangyang. He needed to know what to do or how to act during a sleepover with Hannah.
16 + Fitz & Deke for your new prompts please!!
Thanks for the prompt, Dani! This is getting added to Learning Curve, if you want to read the rest of the Deke & Bobo prompts there.
16. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows; sometimes it just sucks.
Fitz hadn’t seen Deke in twenty-four hours and while usually that would be delightful, the fact that Daisy and Mack also hadn’t heard from or seen him was concerning. He had promised Jemma that he’d keep an eye on Deke while she was on mission, and he… hadn’t.
“Anyone seen Deke?” he asked to the control room, and everyone shook their heads.
Except Agent Trevor Kahn.
“Trevor?” Fitz asked.
“I don’t know for sure,” Trevor said. “He’s avoiding me right now, but -”
“What did you do to him?”
“He’s been acting weird recently, and when I asked him about it, he told me it was nothing. He also won’t reply to my texts or let me talk to him, so clearly, not nothing.”
“Where do you think he is?”
“He goes to this room, it’s a storage room now, but I think it was where he grew up.”
“Where?”
Trevor led him into the depths of the Lighthouse and pat Fitz on the shoulder at the door.
“Good luck,” he said.
“Thank you,” Fitz replied and waited as Trevor retreated to knock on the door.
“Go away, Trev,” Deke called from inside.
“It’s not Trevor. Can I come in?”
“Bobo?”
“Yeah.”
There was a moment and then the door opened. Deke looked ragged, the circles under his eyes more pronounced, his hair a nest, and his clothes rumpled. He looked worse than when they’d met in the apocalyptic waste he’d grown up in.
“You okay?” Fitz asked tentatively.
“Yeah, absolutely,” Deke replied, and he gave Fitz a smile that might have fooled anyone else. He always seemed so sure of himself that FItz had never considered his confidence might be paper mache like everyone else’s, pasted together and painted to look pretty.
“Are you really?” Fitz asked.
“Why? What did Trevor say?”
“Just that you’ve been acting off and now you won’t see him.”
Deke sighed, and the smile dropped off his face.
“Come on it,” he said, stepping aside and letting Fitz into the room. It wasn’t terribly big, and was stuffed full of crates and boxes, except for a cot tucked in the corner, clearly slept in recently.
“What is this place?” he asked, looking around.
“Oh, uhhh, it’s a storage space right now, but it was converted into a bunk when the world cracked apart, and -”
“You grew up here.”
“Yeah, you and Nana had one of the original bunks since you were here first. You raised my mom in your bunk, but when Mom and Dad got married, they moved into their own space. I was born in this room,” he said, sinking onto the cot. “I stumbled onto it a couple weeks ago, and I haven’t really left.”
“You miss your parents,” Fitz filled in.
“Yeah, and I know you and Nana could still have my mom, but it’s not the same. She won’t ever be my mom the way I know her.”
“Yeah, I know. That must hurt.”
Fitz almost leaned against a tower of crates, but thought better of it. Deke gestured to the cot next to him, and Fitz sank down.
“It’s my birthday,” Deke finally said quietly.
“What? It is?”
“Yeah, I, uhh, I realized it earlier this week, and that I had to tell people in order for people to know, and that felt embarrassing for some reason. I couldn’t do it, and I couldn’t fake that I was okay, so I hid away.”
He paused and Fitz let him.
“I used to do this when I was a kid, actually. When kids were mean, or the Kree were too scary, I’d hide in the bunk, tucked under my parent’s bed, with this little stuffed monkey that my mom gave me, and I’d just pretend the rest of the world wasn’t there. If I couldn’t see it, it couldn’t see me.”
“A stuffed monkey?”
“Yeah, you gave it to her, and she kept it and gave it to me.”
Fitz couldn’t stop himself from smiling a little at that, that a gift he’d given to his daughter in that hellscape of a world he raised her in had made it to Deke, and that Deke had found some comfort in it.
“You know, you don’t have to hide. Trevor, me, Jemma, the team is here to help on bad days.”
“It’s embarrassing.”
“It’s not. We all have bad days. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows; sometimes it just sucks. And we have friends and family to hold us up when we want to collapse. It’s okay if you want to fall apart,” Fitz said.
“I can’t. That’s - that’s not how you deal with things. If I fall apart, then I’ll lose.”
“Oh, Deke,” he said.
“You sound just like my mom,” Deke said, and there was a wobble to his voice. Fitz held out his hand, and let Deke take the next step.
“Happy birthday, Deke,” Fitz said softly, and let Deke lean into his shoulder. “I’m sorry your mum can’t be here, but I am. If you want, we’ll celebrate your birthday however you want. Or we can forget your birthday happened.”
“You’d actually do that?”
“No, we’re going upstairs and I’m telling Daisy immediately.”
Deke laughed, and the sound was loud in the quiet of the room.
“I think there’s a chocolate orange left in the kitchen,” Fitz said.
“Chocolate orange?” Deke asked.
“Yeah, come on, let’s get it before Daisy finds it.”
Baby Blues 6/?
Summary: Alex accidentally shares Ace's first milestone on IG before Chris.
Warnings: Baby shaming (is that a thing?), arguing, rude IG/Twitter comments
A/N: Would you guys like to read any of my original works? My friend has me thinking about posting my chapters on here.
~~~~~~
4 Weeks (and 3 Days)
Although she didn’t want to give into co-sleeping, Alex found that it actually helped her sleep better having Ace closer. The self-soothing was still working for him, but rather than going back and forth during the night to feed, Alex moved his bassinet into her bedroom. Much to Dodger’s dismay.
“It’s temporary bubba.” Alex assured him
Ace gurgled from his place on the play mat, ideally set up for Alex to attempt some writing but once she was him practically hypnotized by the colorful toys hovering over him, she decided to put it aside for the moment.
"Are you having fun Alexander?" Alex cooed and tickled his little belly "You like the pretty colors?"
He kicked in response. Alex pulled out her phone, going to Instagram. She was happy when Chris finally caved and got one, she sent him so many Hamilton, puppy and Disney related videos. Now she would gladly flood his messages with videos of Ace.
“Say hi Ace, say hi to Daddy.” Alex tickled his tummy again
Ace squealed and flashed a smile.
“Was that a smile?” she repeated her actions, and he smiled wider, gums on full display and a happy grunt “You’re smiling! Look at you, your first smile!”
Alex quickly hit the send button before putting her phone aside, then went back to playing and cuddling with Ace.
“Wait until Daddy sees that smile.” She turned him over onto his stomach. He whined, tummy time was his least favorite thing to do "I know, I know but we gotta do it."
Alex moved so she was across from Ace, resting on her stomach too. He bobbed his head up and down until he met Alex's eyes and smiled again. She decided writing could wait until tomorrow.
When Renee got back from the grocery store the two duo were all smiles, Alex half singing a long forgotten nursery rhyme and Ace still enjoying the tune.
"He's smiling?" She rushed over
"Say 'yes I am, and it's not gas this time'." Alex said in a high pitched voice, getting another joyful squeal from her son
"I like smiling babies, come to Nana." She pulled Ace into her arms "Did you tell Chris?"
"Yeah I sent him a video. I don't think he replied yet." Alex looked around for her phone, finding it on the far side of the couch.
She was positive Chris replied over an hour ago, but she just wasn't paying the phone any attention. And surely enough there were missed calls and texts flooding her notifications. The most recent one being from her friends:
He's so cute Al!!
Looks just like Chris, but has your eyes 👀
About time you shared a pic!
You're trending rn
She came across the missed calls and texts from Chris.
Chris: Al call me back
Confused, Alex went through Twitter. She and Chris were in fact trending, the headline reading 'Alex Evans shares smiling video of newborn son on IG!'
"Oh shit." Alex jumped up from her spot on the floor
"Everything alright?"
Alex sped dialed Chris "Kinda sorta."
"Al?" Chris answered on the second ring
"Hey babe."
"Are you aware that you posted a video of our son on Instagram?"
"Now I am, I get that you're mad-"
"Mad, why would I be mad? Just because his first smile was shared with the rest of the world before me." He said almost accusingly
"Chris, it was an accident. I thought I sent the video to you."
"I'm not-" he sighed "I'm not blaming you."
"Kinda feels like your are."
"I just said I wasn't."
"Well your tone says otherwise." Alex snapped. Renee signaled that she was taking Ace into the other room. “Chris, I can’t undo what happened.”
“I know that, but you just opened up a flood gate of self-entitled requests and opinions from people who have no right to our son’s life.”
Alex suppress a scoff but rolled her eyes “Flood gate is a bit of a stretch don’t you think.”
“You haven’t seen the comments have you? And I can feel you rolling your eyes.”
“No, I haven’t read them, because it doesn’t matter what they think, plus I stopped reading them after we got married.”
“Well a few of the following include: ‘He shouldn’t be on the floor like that, he’ll have to were a helmet.’  ‘Wow his wife just had a kid and he’s down in Mexico? What kind of guy does that?’ and my least favorite ‘isn’t he a bit dark? Cevans might wanna get a DNA test done.’ All the other ones I already have blocked.”
“You know that last one is just some asshole troll. And why are you taking it out on me? I already told you it was an accident.”
“I’m not taking it out on you.”
“Yes you are! Otherwise we wouldn’t be having this conversation. You’d just be happy that your son smiled for the first time.” Alex snapped
“I am happy.” Chris half shouts, then he took a deep breath “I gotta go, they need me.”
“Sure fine.” Alex huffed out
Even over two thousand miles away, Chris could sense Alex’s aggravation “Give Ace a kiss for me.”
“Always.”
Both waited for the other one to speak up, but they were too stubborn for their own good. Alex could hear Chris being beckoned to join the rest of the cast before it got too late.
“I gotta go.” he repeats
“I know.” Alex opened her mouth to speak again when she heard the beep “I love you.”
* * *
 Chris stared at his phone, stupidly ending the call before he could say anything else.
He believed Alex when she said it was an accident, a few birthday and party surprises had been spoiled from her hitting the wrong speed dial button or accidentally using  ‘reply all’ in an email. But having to catch his son’s first milestone after two million strangers bothered him. The thought of being away for any other big moments, only seeing them through screens, pissed him off even more.
His anger got the better of him this time, he knew it.
 He wanted to call back, text, hell he’d hire a sky writer to make sure Alex got the message.
“I love you.”

For Baekhyun, the first half of the week was spent preparing. For the first date of all first dates. A first date that would be heart flutteringly romantic, yet private and comfortable. Exciting, but also intimate. Something where he could talk to you, where he could touch you if he wants, where nobody else could see and judge. But also somewhere where he wouldn’t be able to bend you over and take you if you decided to start teasing him again. That would need to wait until after the date, for which he also had big plans.
 Endless phone calls were made. Flowers, chocolates, and champagne needed to be bought. His mind was set, this date would be nothing short of perfect. So perfect in fact, that you would have no choice but to fall for him the same way he’d fallen for you. The man was dedicated.
First though, he needed to ask you in a way that would guarantee a yes Baekhyun, I would love to go on a date with you, and not just an ‘okay’.
His first stop was the florist, owned by his friend Minseok. It was a quaint little shop where he knew he’d be able to get a perfect custom arrangement with all your favorite flowers. Little did you know Baekhyun had used his professor status to look up Mia’s school email, and had been in contact with her in order to make sure he got the best possible things to fit your preferences.
“Lilies and roses, those are her favorites. As many of them as you’ll give me.”
Minseok ended up putting together a box, a wide white cylinder overflowing with lilies and roses in all shades of white, red, and pink. It was big, a bit extravagant, and quite expensive. But Baekhyun did not care, if anything he was trying to go as over the top as possible, to really show how much he cared and wanted to make this special. No purchase was too large, no gift too much.
The chocolates were imported from Switzerland. A large box with endless flavor varieties, each one more delicious than the last. The last time he’d had them had been on vacation in Europe, and it was not so easy for him to get his hands on them outside of the EU. But after a few phone calls, he had them on their way over with 2-day shipping.
Baekhyun wasn’t one to usually spend much money at all. Not because he didn’t have it, he just didn’t feel the need. He had a nice home and a nice car. There wasn’t anything he regularly bought, aside from food. Most purchases would either be related to movies and games online, or would be for his friends.
But he loved spending money on you, because for the first time in his life there was a girl who cared about more than just his family’s wealth. You actually cared about him. He’d never wanted to spoil someone like this before out of fear that they might only stick around for the financial benefits, but that didn’t worry him when it came to you. He found it almost laughable that after so many years of dating ‘proper’ women, women his family would’ve liked, women who looked great on paper but brought him no excitement and used him for his money, he finally found someone who actually cared for him at a strip club. The universe sometimes works in mysterious ways, he told himself.
Once the chocolates had arrived and he had acquired the flowers, it was time to get going.
~
Wednesday afternoon you and Mia decided to put away your homework for a while and bake something together. Apple pie was the agreed upon project for the day. You were in the process of slicing up the apples when you started to wonder just what was taking Baekhyun so long, after all he’d already told you he was going to ask you out. Why couldn’t he just do it?
“I wonder why Baekhyun still hasn’t actually asked me on a date yet, he said he was going to on Saturday and it’s Wednesday. Do you think he might’ve changed his mind?”
Mia had to work to hold back her smile. Not only did she know when he planned on coming to ask, she knew the exact flowers and chocolates he was bringing, as well as the date and time of the date itself, all of which Baekhyun had carefully discussed with her.
“He definitely hasn’t changed his mind, that’s for sure. He’s probably just taking his time to make sure it’s special.”
“He’s only asking me on a date. He could literally just text me. It’s not like I’ll say no anyway.”
At that, Mia couldn’t help but crack up. Maybe that was the norm for college guys, but Baekhyun? Ask you in a text? After everything he’d done? It was laughable.
“What’s so funny?”
“Nothing!” Mia said and put two hands up in the air in defense, but you’d known your best friend for long enough to tell when she was lying.
“You know something. Tell me.” You demanded, taking your apple slicing knife and pointing it towards her.
“Get that away from me! And my lips are sealed, sorry.”
No matter how much you annoyed her about it, she wasn’t going to tell you. Not only was she sworn to secrecy, she wanted you to enjoy the surprise.
“Come on, did he say something to you? Just tell me.”
“I’m not saying anything. You’ll just have to see, but I promise it’ll be worth the wait.”
“You are so evil.”
“You still love me”
The pie was eventually assembled and put into the oven, at which point you returned back to your own room to continue doing homework. Mia stayed out in the living room, since she knew there was a guest arriving shortly.
~
It was finally time for Baekhyun to go to your house to ask. After approximately 30 minutes of just making sure his hair looked right, he finally grabbed the chocolates and flowers and got on his way.
It was a pretty warm day, but even with the AC blasting as high as it would go Baekhyun was still sweating. He knew you would say yes, but his hands felt slippery on the steering wheel of his car anyway. It had been almost 5 years since he had last done this, since he had asked a girl out. It had been even longer since he’d asked someone out that he was actually excited to spend time with, and really hoped would say yes.
The closer he got to your home, the more nervous he became. He couldn’t even explain to himself why. He knew you were home, he knew you would say yes, he knew you were free the day he was going to take you out, and he knew he had the perfect gifts. This was exactly why he’d interrogated Mia via email for days, but when it actually came down to it he couldn’t help worrying. What if you were mad that it took him so long to ask and wouldn’t wanna go anymore? What if something came up last minute and you wouldn’t be able to? He wasn’t sure if his heart would be able to take a response like that. Especially since setting up the date itself had been a whole other story, one that not even Mia knew about.
Baekhyun could feel his heart thumping in his chest as he got the chocolates and flowers out of his trunk and started walking up to your front door. When he knocked, Mia was the one to answer.
“Hi Baekhyun!” She said, looking him up and down, and then to the flowers and chocolates he was holding, a wide grin on her face. “I’ll go get her.”
You heard your name being yelled from the living room so you peeled your thighs off your desk chair and made your way into the common space to see Baekhyun, holding the most enormous flower arrangement you’d ever seen.
Mia went to her room, leaving you standing before him, slightly flabbergasted.
“Sorry I didn’t do this sooner, but can I take you out on Saturday?” He asked, peeking over the mountain of flowers that hid the bottom of his face.
You immediately grinned and nodded enthusiastically, pulling Baekhyun through the doorway. You grabbed the flower arrangement and set it down on the coffee table before sitting down on the couch with him.
“I would’ve asked days ago already but I wanted to bring these too and it takes a little while for them to get shipped from Switzerland.”
The flowers had distracted you so much you hadn’t even noticed the box of chocolates he was holding as well.
“Baekhyun this is crazy, how much did all of this cost?”
He only rolled his eyes. “You know none of that matter, I just want to make you happy, okay? And you like them right?”
“Well of course I love chocolate, and the flowers are beautiful, roses and lilies are my favorites.”
“I know.” He grinned at you.
“I never told you that?”
“I might’ve found your friend’s school email...”
Your eyes widened. “You did not-”
“Professors have access to every students files and that includes school email addresses, and you mentioned her a few times so I figured I would ask her some stuff.” His hand made its way to the back of his neck and he looked down at the ground nervously. “Sorry if that’s weird, I just wanted to make sure I’d get the right things and that you wouldn’t already be busy or anything.”
You smiled “It’s alright, this is definitely the most anyone's ever done for me for a first date, or any date for that matter, sorry if I don’t really know how to act right now.”
“Nobody’s ever bought you flowers or chocolates before? Really? Are those boys you go to school with that dumb?”
“I don’t really date around much anyway, and maybe once or twice for valentines day or something, but definitely never like this.”
“Well you deserve to be showered in flowers and chocolates all the time.” He smiled and grabbed the box and untied the fancy looking ribbon holding it together, and removed the lid. “Try one, this stuff is crazy, no other chocolate has been the same since I first tried it on vacation in the alps a few years ago.”
Of course he went on fancy European vacations. You wondered if someday you’d get to tag along.
He picked a piece and held it up to your mouth and you took it between your lips. He was right, it was amazing.
“Oh my god this is so good. Holy shit.” He was right, this would pretty much ruin all other chocolate for you.
He watched you as you finished eating it and placed a hand on your chin, bringing your eyes to meet his. “Give me a taste.”
He pulled you in for a slow open mouthed kiss, savoring the flavor of the chocolate on your tongue and leaving you breathless. You weren’t sure if you’d ever be able to get used to the way he kissed you. He was so good at making you feel like your insides were melting with desire it felt almost dangerous.
“You’re intoxicating, I could kiss you all day.” He said as he pulled away from the kiss just enough to speak. You could feel his breath on your face and his eyes as they bore into your own.
“Oh come on you’re just saying that because of the chocolate.” You laughed as you pulled away further, face now a bright shade of pink.
“The chocolate is amazing, but your lips are even better.”
“God you’re so cheesy.” You rolled your eyes at him, but he still just smiled back. “So where are you taking me Saturday?”
“It’s a surprise, I’ll pick you up here around 3:00 and it’ll be a bit of a drive but I promise it’ll be well worth it.”
“Can you give me a hint at least? Will there be food? What should I wear?”
“Yes there will be food, and just wear something comfortable and weather appropriate.”  He considered it for a moment, trying to think of something that wouldn’t be too obvious. “It’s an outdoor thing, and something I’m almost 100% sure you’ve never done before, but that’s all you’re getting out of me. I don’t want to ruin the surprise.”
“You’re so mean.” You pouted. “You make me wait for days and now you won’t even say where you’re taking me.” You really wondered what was so special that he couldn’t just tell you. It was only a first date so it wouldn’t be anything that extravagant anyway right?
“Once you see you’ll understand why I want to keep it secret, just trust me, okay?” You rolled your eyes again, “Hey, y/n, look at me.”
He put his hand on your thigh before giving you a serious look. “I know this might not seem like that big of a deal to you, but it’s been over 5 years since I’ve taken someone out like this, and even longer since I’ve been this excited to. I just, I really want to make this special, so can you trust me?”
You gave him a soft smile and a nod. “Of course, I'm impatient is all... And I haven’t really done this in a while either...”
“It’s really shocking to me how someone as beautiful as you doesn’t have a constant stream on boys trying to take you out.” You chucked, and thought back to Lucas and how he’d asked you to a party.
“Me and college boys don’t really mix well, I’m not someone who enjoys big parties and they usually aren’t really interested in getting to know me anyway, or once they do they realize I’m just a boring STEM major. You saw that guy Lucas, I’m sure he was just hoping I’d go party with him and get wasted enough to end up in his bed. No thank you.”
“He was so pushy too.” Baekhyun said as his face fell into a frown at the unpleasant memory.
“Boys will ask me out sometimes, sure, but it’s always just to a party or a movie or something, somewhere you can’t really have any kind of meaningful conversation anyway, so I assume they just want to sleep with me. And I’m not really interested in that.”
“You seemed more than happy to let me rail you in my office last week.” Baekhyun laughed, making your face blush an even deeper shade of red.
“That’s different!” You said in defense, giving a light slap to his shoulder. “You’re not some college boy, and we have technically known each other for a while already.”
Baekhyun had a wide smile plastered on his face again, “Doesn’t change the fact that I’m the one who had to keep it from happening.”
“Which I still think was pretty lame of you...”
He caught your eyes again, before leaning in to whisper in your ear, “Baby I’ll make sure that was worth the wait too.”
You shivered, and as soon as he had pulled away you couldn’t help but throw your arms around him and pull him into another kiss. He quickly deepened the kiss and pulled you onto his lap. The two of you sat like that for a while, exploring each other’s mouths, enjoying the closeness and intimacy of it. Eventually you ended up laying down next to one another, still kissing lazily in each other’s embrace. You knew better than to escalate it into anything sexual now, so you just enjoyed the softness of his lips on yours and his arms wrapped around your waist.
After some time Baekhyun had to go, and you thanked him again for the chocolates and flowers. As soon as he closed the door behind him, Mia emerged from her bedroom.
“See! I told you he’d ask soon! Also, he’s even cuter in person.” She giggled and you laughed in agreement.
“Did he seriously email you about me? What all did he say?”
“He asked about your favorite everything pretty much, when you’d be home this week for him to ask you, when you’d have time over the weekend, all that. I assumed you wouldn’t mind missing work for the date so I told him Saturday night.”
“Was there anything else? Any idea where he’s taking me?”
“No, I asked but he wouldn’t tell me either. It was really cute though, the way he was talking about you. He’s seriously whipped.”
“You don’t say.” You laughed gesturing towards the huge flower arrangement and box of chocolates still on the coffee table.
“You have to tell me where he takes you, I’m really curious. Did he tell you anything?”
“Just that it’s outdoors and I don’t need to dress fancy.”
You could tell Mia was thinking, trying to figure what it might be the same way you had. “A picnic maybe?”
“That feels almost not fancy enough for him, but I don’t know. I really can’t think of anything outdoorsy that nice.”
“Well, I guess you’ll just have to find out! Come on, let’s cut into this pie.”
The evening was spent eating pie, and with Mia showing you Baekhyun’s emails to her. They made you feel like your heart might explode from the sweetness and consideration he had when planning everything. He’d even made sure to get you milk chocolate rather than dark chocolate. There were a plethora of other seemingly unrelated questions as well, including your favorite snack foods, colors, and more. You felt a little bad for how much he’d asked her about.
As the hours went by, you were looking forward to the date more and more.
 Saturday afternoon couldn’t arrive soon enough.
Next Chapter
A/N: Sorry this one is late and a bit short, but the next update will be *much* more exciting I promise ;)

☮︎ ☮︎ ☮︎ ☮︎
You slipped passed the group of party-goers in the hallway, ignoring the person calling your name though you knew that he knew you had heard him. Why else would he be following you through the house, weaving around drunk couples and friends of friends as he called your name again. The sound of your name wasn’t completely drowned out by the bass of the sound system in the living room but you pretended it was as you opened the door and walked outside, the cool night air hitting you like a wave, washing over you as your feet hit the driveway. You were almost free, almost to your car.
The door slammed behind you and a warm hand grabbed your upper arm, turning you around and forcing you to come face to face with Rafe Cameron.
Despite the look on your face, on of complete shock, you weren’t surprised at all that he had followed you outside. It had been months since the two of you had talked, since he told you that he was “over” the two of you and moved on. And just when you thought unblocking his number didn’t matter, he started calling you again, texting you about how much he missed you and asking for another chance.
“Let go.” You insisted, standing there slack and not bothering to fight against the hold. As if Rafe would simply go back inside, poof away like smoke.
“Can we just talk?”
You blinked, looking up when you felt the familiar sting of tears. You’d given him months of them and you wouldn’t cave again. Not this time. He was the one who showed up to this party with his new girlfriend, how was he going to follow you outside like this now.
“Just go back inside. She’s probably waiting for you.”
Rafe scoffed, “I don’t give a shit about her.”
“You didn’t give a shit about me until two weeks ago. So what else is new?” You replied, pulling away this time. Stepping back so there was space between you. The further away the better, you kept telling yourself.
The further away the easier to remember who he really was.
“I didn’t mean it like that.”
“About her or me?” You asked. He’d been through plenty of different girls since he broke it off with you. You’d seen them all on his timeline. And maybe you shouldn’t have been looking or maybe you shouldn’t have let yourself believe that him hoping from girl to girl meant he was unhappy but you couldn’t do this. You wanted to, you wanted to let yourself trust him, to let yourself listen to whatever excuse he could muster.
You weren’t the center of universe though. You weren’t his other half, his partner in crime, his confidant. You weren’t anything but another way to pass the time.
“Why do you have to make this so hard?” He commented, running a hand through his hair. The frustration showed as he cracked his knuckles and tried to regroup, to say something.
“It’s hard cause you don’t mean any of it and I know that.” You replied.
“I just-”
“What?” You asked, “weren’t in the right headspace? Didn’t mean it? Was afraid? Of me, of commitment, of your feelings. What Rafe? Which one is it?”
“Why can’t you just let me fucking apologize?”
“Because you don’t mean it!” No amount of blinking could stop the tears this time, your voice cracking at the end as you tried desperately not to lose your composure. You could feel it slipping out of your fingers though and there was nothing you could do.
“I came all the way out here.”
“Congratulations. You forced me to pay attention to you. Once again.” You replied. “It’s always the same with you. Screaming ‘look at me’, you always have to be so important.”
When you turned this time Rafe didn’t follow after you, watching you walk to your car instead. “So that’s it?” He called after you, “you just don’t care anymore?”
You stood at the door, clutching the handle. Deep breaths, the outside lights were bright enough that you could see your reflection in the car window and you wanted to put your fist through the glass. “No.”
You waited, holding your breath as you listened to the slamming of the front door, before you got into the car. You shut the door, leaning back against the seat and screaming. It was loud and awful and you imagined it smashing all the glass around you but the car was still intact when you opened your eyes. Alone, in your car, in the dark. You slumped over the steering wheel, pressing your forehead to the leather and crying.
“I’m losing my fucking mind.” You muttered, hands shaking as you reached for the seatbelt, a knock on the window making you jump in your seat, startled in the dark of the car. You look out the window before opening the door. “Did Rafe send you out?”
“No, I saw you guys come out here and when Rafe came back in I figured it was worth it to check that you were okay.” Kelce replied, holding the door as he stepped into your space a little more.
“I’m fine.”
“Okay.” He nodded, looking back at the house, “I’ll head back in.”
“Wait, Kelce.” You stopped him, though he hadn’t moved at all. He turned his head to look back down at you, “I can’t drive.”
“Scoot over.”
You climbed over the center console, falling into the passenger seat as Kelce climbed in the car and took your keys. You pressed your hands against your face, as if you could soak up the tears that had already fallen, trying desperately to erase the image of Rafe asking you to forgive him. When you got home you knew there would be messages from him, ones that you would stare at, tempted to read them even though you knew that all it would be was the same meaningless bullshit he’d tried to feed you outside.
“Can we go somewhere?” You asked, “I’m not ready to go home.”
“Sure, lets take a drive.” Kelce agreed, passing the street for your house and continuing on toward the beach.

Ocean Eyes - Part 8
Tumblr media
A/N - Finally an update!! Im sorry of this is bad but im trying to get back into the swing of it! 💕💕
My week had been long! Or at least it felt that way. Work had been busier than usual and Mason was being extra clingy. If he wasn't hanging onto me he was throwing a tantrum because he wanted his dad. Chris had been stopping by every day after he got off from work, most days staying for dinner and then leaving once Mason was down for the night. On the few occasions Chris couldn't make it..... i knew Mason was going to act up. It was nice having Chris's help with Mason, but i couldn't help thinking about how much easier life would have been with him around from the start.
Another person who had noticed Chris's increased visits was Brian! My god he was driving me mad!!
He would show up all the time at the coffee shop trying to talk to me about random things. He would always be out the front of his house when i arrived home, it was getting ridiculous and honestly a little creepy! Even to the point of him showing up when i was grocery shopping with Mason.
Friday evening quickly came around and I packed a weekend bag for Mason and I ready for our weekend in Boston visiting Chris's mom Lisa. It had been agreed that we would stay at Chris's house after Mason found out Chris had a dog.
He wouldn't shut up about meeting Dodger!
Chris came by to pick us up, he grabbed our bags and took them out to his car with Mason following him while i double checked the house was locked up and i hadn't forgotten anything. I set the alarm and locked the front door, as i turned Brian was walking over.
"Hey, you going somewhere?" He asked like it was something he should be aware of.
"yeah, just a family thing" i nodded shrugging casually as i continued towards Chris's car.
"How long you gonna be gone for?"
"Only a few days, goodnight Brian"
"You okay?" Chris asked walking over to me while throwing a glare at Brian who wasn't too far behind.
"Yeah lets just go"
Chris put his arm around my waist and led me to the passenger side while standing between me and Brian as if shielding me from my creepy neighbour.
"I know its not my place to say, but i don't like that guy. He freaks me out the way he is with you" Chris said quietly once we were on the road.
"I know, i hate it too. He's gotten worse since he's seen you around more"
"I really think you should think about moving"
"Ive been thinking the same thing actually"
"You have?"
"Yeah, i don't feel safe in my own home anymore. The guy is literally everywhere i go"
"He still coming by the coffee shop?"
"Everyday" i nodded "now he shows up when i'm getting groceries with Mace....."
"Maybe you and Mason should stay with me until you find a new place, or i'll stay with you....."
"Chris...."
"Im not trying to overstep i swear, i just want to know you're both safe"
"I'll think about it".
Tumblr media
To say Chris's house was impressive would be a huge understatement. When we walked in we were tackled by the brown and white dog Mason had been dying to meet. Dodger was so happy to see people and so gentle with Mason, the two were hitting it off already. I stood looking around the house and couldnt believe how clean and tidy everything was.... it looked like something out of a magazine....I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my mouth, that got Chris's attention.
"What?"
"I was just thinking about how tidy it is.... you do realise thats gonna change with a 5 year old running around?"
"Of course i do, i'm not stupid.....Im looking forward to it"
"We'll see if you feel that way later" i shook my head before bending down to fuss Dodger who was now wanting my attention.
"Pizza okay for dinner?" Chris asked after he had shown us to the guest room and got us settled in.
"Thats fine, Mason will be thrilled" i smiled "must get his love of pizza from you".
Chris just smiled proudly as he pulled his cell phone from his pocket to order.
"Your favourite still ham and pineapple?"
"Of course!"
"So gross"
"Christopher don't start that argument with me again.... pineapple is good on pizza!"
"Keep telling yourself that sweetheart" he chuckled shaking his head as we made our way back downstairs. We had argued about pineapple on pizza for years!
"Mason agrees with me" i shrugged with a smug smile as a look of horror spread on his face.
"No!..... say it ain't so....."
"Sorry its true, ask him"
"Hey buddy?.... what pizza do you want?" Chris called over to Mason who was sitting with Dodger in front of the TV.
"Ham and Pineapple please"
"Thats my boy!" I grinned at Chris before going to sit with Mason and Dodger.
Tumblr media
I was standing in front of the mirror looking at my outfit choice for the day, maybe i should change..... i had already changed 3 times!! My stomach had been in knots all morning, the nerves getting the better of me, Id barely touched the pancakes Chris had made us all for breakfast.
"You look so pretty mama" I heard Mason say and turned to see him standing in the bedroom doorway smiling at me.
"Thank you baby" i smiled back lovingly at him before taking one last look in mirror and taking a deep breath.
"I guess its time to go meet your nana huh?"
"Yep! Come on lets go! Dad said Dodger can come too" he was so excited!
"He did?? Wow bud thats great! Come on then lets go".
Chris was sat on the sofa waiting for us, he was looking at something on his cell phone that made him frown.... he looked pissed off truth be told.
"Hey, we're ready when you are" i said casually letting him know we were in the room. He looked up instantly, his eyes looking me up and down as a smile spread on his face.
"Wow you look nice.... both of you"
"Thanks, we wont embarrass you then?" I asked only half joking, even though i knew his family this was still nerve racking.
"Why would you ever embarrass me?"
"I...."
"Mama can we go?" Mason interrupted walking over with Dodger on his lead.
"Wow someones eager to meet his nana huh?"
"Sure pal, lets go" Chris beamed grabbing his car keys and slipping his phone in his jeans pocket.
Chris's cell was blowing up in his pocket as we drove to his moms place, 5/6 ignored phone calls followed by a shit ton of text messages. I could see him getting more and more irritated the longer they kept coming through.
"Everything okay?" I finally asked looking over at him.
"Huh?"
"Your phone?...."
"Oh yeah, i'm sure its nothing important"
"The person trying to get your attention seems to think differently"
"It can wait" he quickly looked at me with a tight lipped smile before turning his attention back to the road.
"You sure? You can pull over and check...."
"Im positive"
"Okay if you say so"
"I do say so, now shush i like this song" he said smiling as he turned up the song on the radio drowning out the sound of his phone.
My knee was bouncing and my heart racing from my nerves as we drove up the drive way to Lisa's house.
Chris put the car in park and looked over at me with a smile.
"You know you have nothing to be nervous about? My mom loves you, you were always like another daughter to her"
"I know, but i left..... she's gonna hate me for leaving the way i did.... for not telling her...."
"Hey, she knows this is on me. She always knew it was my fault we didn't work out...." he looked down at his lap "she was so happy to hear you were coming to see her. She can't wait to see you and meet Mason"
"She was?"
"Yeah, now come on you got this"
I nodded and took a deep breath before throwing open my door and climbing out of Chris's car ready to face the music.

“In and Out the Exits and Entrances”
Tumblr media
A/N: Supposedly inspired by the above quote but… I overdid the concept. Damn. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. It was supposed to be cute tsundere fluff all the way thru. What happened? Can’t believe my MayaKuro (Maya x Claudine) debut ended up like this. Pre-relationship stuff. Credits to @quotemadness and the original quote source. I always find their quotes so prompt-worthy.
Enjoy?
~Shintori Khazumi
“In and Out the Exits and Entrances”
“I wish you’d find the exit out of my head.” Claudine grunted to herself as she fell face-first onto her large bed, exhausted from yet another spat with the insufferable woman whose name she would not mention. Why? She didn’t need another reason to think about her right now.
She’d rather forget her all together, if anything.
Yes. Forget. Erase everything that had to do with her existence in the plane that was Saijou Claudine’s mind. Blot out any and all evidences, any trace, every step the brunette trekked along the paths of Claudine’s thoughts. Destroy all tracks for any train of Maya-related thought-
“GAH!” And here she said she wouldn’t put a name to the face that plagued her every night, who visited her dreams both in broad daylight and under the soft rays of the moon.
She cursed her feeble mental defenses, pounding a fist into her fluffed pillows before flipping herself over to lay on her back. It shouldn’t be such a big deal, really. Why was she so irritated today? It wasn’t like they never fought. On the contrary, no day would pass where they wouldn’t bicker.
So what was the big deal?
Why was Claudine so… infuriated? Vexed? Exasperated? What term would fit the bill to her feelings as of the moment. Was this frustration at the fact that-
Ah. Yes, maybe that was it.
Claudine was frustrated with Maya. Tendou Maya, who so strong and confident, so prideful, poised and elegant- yes, the perfect top star was… just suddenly not. And for what reason? Her ever good-for-nothing parents who Claudine couldn’t be bothered to even pretend to like. That was probably the one role she would fail at acting out.
Yes, that was it. Not pain or worry or anything… right.
“Damn you, you insufferable- nggh!” As Claudine continued to grumble and groan as she rolled along her massive mattress, memories of earlier in the day intruded her thinking space.
The 99th class was gathered in one of the practice rooms, everyone throwing their all into one-upping one another… at uno. Yes, they had settled for a quick round of cards after a particularly intense rehearsal for their new play that was showing in a mere two days.
It wasn’t a particularly grand production, and it certainly wasn’t well-known enough that they would expect a humungous audience. Maybe with a bit of advertising, they’d be able to gather a decent crowd, and each member of the team had built enough rapport with audiences that they expected to see a few familiar, regular faces attending.
Still, it was something they chose together as a class after having fallen in love with the story of a young lady who was cursed to go blind in seven days, and she decided she wanted to see everything in the world before that happened, and as she began her journey out of town, she met various people along the way- one of which was an adventure, volunteering to be her guide, who she would fall desperately in love with but never see again. A young soul who was cursed to only exist if they could be “seen”.
Right away, they were captivated by this and unanimously agreed upon it as their next project.
Everyone was excited for it; they were raring to go. Claudine had snatched the leading role as the blind young lady and she couldn’t be more thrilled. And maybe, somewhere deep down, her heart was also thrilled that cast opposite her as the love interest, was no other than Tendou Maya.
The infuriating woman, obviously, threw her a smirk in the most infuriating away she knew how. And she clearly knew she was pushing all the right buttons for Claudine to react to her… infuriating-ness... if that was ever a word.
All was normal, all was good.
Then it wasn’t.
Barging into today’s practice, through the wooden doors that could have broke from the sheer force with which they had hit the wall, was Tendou Maya’s father. Claudine would have applauded his dedication to acting, perfectly imitating a red chili, face scarlet with rage and fuming a few degrees, making the room they were all in, rise in temperature. She would have had he not marched straight up to Maya and landed a resounding smack across her face.
Claudine’s blood ran cold in contrast to the scalding gaze she threw at the elder Tendou. “Excu-“ Before she could move to her rival’s side and interrogate the sudden intrusion, the man began yelling.
“THIS is what you’re ignoring all my calls for the past week for? Slacking off and wasting your time and potential with silly games and silly girls, and useless productions!”
Claudine seethed. Her eyes travelling down Maya’s frame as the girl had her back to her. Her gaze found Maya’s tightly clenched hands- nails buried so deep they could draw blood. She wanted to reach out and ease the grip of the taller girl, wanting to bring her comfort, but at this moment, it was as if there was this wall that prevented anyone from stepping in to the father-daughter’s space.
“I texted you to come home right away. I told you, you were to meet some distinguished guests and perform for them. I told you to practice at home and prepare! DO YOU WANT TO SHAME THE PARENTS WHO GAVE EVERYTHING FOR YOU?!” His hand had lifted, and Claudine felt her body shift forward, mind telling her to block the blow.
Someone was faster, however. Nana had already caught the man by the hand, and even he was surprised at the strength that he couldn’t seem to overpower.
“Excuse me, not to sound rude, but are you allowed to be in here sir?” She asked with a bone-chilling smile.
“Even if you are a parent, it’s disrespectful to just barge into school grounds and intimidate students, visiting without prior notice.” Junna piped up from beside her. “We could inform a teacher and have personnel remove you for harassing students.”
“I’m her father.” The man breathed through gritted teeth, gesturing with his thumb to the girl who had yet to release a single word from her tightly pursed lips. Her head had been down the entire time since he hit her, and she had not moved an inch from her spot.
“Well, you sure don’t act like one.” Hikari remarked, not even sparing the man a glance.
“Why I-“
“Excuse me, the students have reported an incident, and I’m here to confirm.” Sakuragi-sensei entered the room, and the students felt relief flood their system, some tension fading away from their mentor’s presence. Behind her was a security guard and they could see Mr Tendou’s frame turn rigid as he coughed into his palm, regaining professional composure, before standing up in a confident posture.
“Ah, yes, sorry. No, it’s nothing. I’m here to speak to my daughter, that is all. Her… companions seemed to have the wrong idea.”
“Did we now…” Futaba slapped a hand over Kaoruko’s mouth before things turned worse.
“Even so, we have protocol, sir.” Sakuragi-sensei returned the professionalism, smiling as she led the man out. “We can discuss this further in the office with your daughter.”
“Maya. Come.” The man commanded, and Claudine flinched. What was he calling for? A dog? This was his daughter.
“…nt to…” The room’s occupants heard the soft mumble.
“What was that?” The anger seemed to be returning to Mr. Tendou’s voice as he took a step towards Maya’s direction.
“I-I…I don’t… I don’t want to!”
“You-“
“Mr. Tendou.” Sakuragi-sensei’s voice was firm, and the girls could never be more thankful for the strength their teacher displayed in moments like this where they needed her the most. “We’ll have the talk in my office.” She turned to the unfamiliar young lady in the middle of the room. Unfamiliar, not in the sense that they didn’t know who she was, but they could barely recognize her as she was. “Maya?”
Her invitation was gentle and kind, offering an option that Maya could say no, and not go with them, and that would be fine. She nodded her head, however, and Claudine had just enough time to react and grab the taller girl’s arm, all actions out of her control as her tongue slipped and she pleaded with a weakness she loathed,
“Don’t go.”
Maya laid her hand over Claudine’s, warm. She gave her a smile, and for a moment, Claudine’s heavy heart lifted, before her smile fell.
Maya went.
~0~0~0~0~
After that, the group of friends were only left with a message of a verdict and no sight of one Tendou Maya.
The top star was to go home with her father tonight, no questions asked. It had been her decision- or so Sensei had told them.
“It obviously isn’t.” Claudine sighed against the pillow she now found herself tightly embracing.
She lay on her bed in silence, feeling her head pound, heart heavy. It was so quiet in the dorm today. She could hear the fast ticking of a clock in her room. She could hear the footsteps of whoever was padding down the hall, possibly about to pass by her room.
It was nine pm, Claudine had checked the time. Maya should have been long gone by now-
A knock came on her door.
“Saijou-san?” The door opened the tiniest crack.
Should have, is certainly the right way to say it.
“What in the world are you doing here, Tendou Maya?” Claudine wanted to sound irritated, or her usual tone of annoyance, but somehow it came off as a gentle whisper- so soft, Maya could have missed it.
But she didn’t.
“I… may have ran back.”
“ALL THE WAY FROM YOUR HOUSE?!” Claudine could see a bit of dirt and tatter all over Maya’s wear, and she could see small beads of sweat on her brow.
“No, just the road. I-“ she swallowed a breath, “I told my father I didn’t want to go… He…” Her eyes flitted towards Claudine’s bed, and she finally realized that the other girl must be incredibly exhausted, so she led the way as they say side-by-side on the soft cushion.
Maya didn’t continue right away, but that was fine. Claudine was content on letting her take her time. She could tell her when she was ready. Claudine may not have been able to support Maya through actions or words earlier, but she sure as hell could do it through listening to her every worry and being by her side (forever, if possible) if that would help.
In Maya’s eyes, it was everything she ever really needed.
“I… those… my father. Well, you know how he said he messaged a week ago about having “distinguished guests” over.” She spoke with air quotes, and Claudine couldn’t help the small smile that formed on her face at the sheer cuteness of this creature before her.
She nodded as if to say, ‘go on’.
Maya smiled in appreciation at the lent ear. “Well, I am aware that what he means by that is that they are the families of potential suitors- or well, no, not suitors. Potential… marriage partners, you could say.”
Something didn’t feel right in Claudine’s chest. It felt constricted, and her throat ran dry as she nodded another response instead of speaking.
“Well, yes that, and I suppose to once more parade me like the trophy I am.”
Claudine frowned at those words. Finding her voice, she spoke with conviction. “You are wonderful, you are amazing, but you are not a display for their entertainment.”
Maya genuinely smiled at that, fingers tentatively reaching out to touch Claudine’s. The French girl made a small jump, but then relaxed, fingers intertwining with Maya’s as if it were the most natural course of action. She felt Maya squeeze her thanks, and she squeezed back.
There was always this warmth with Maya, a feeling she couldn’t quite name. It had planted itself in Claudine’s heart for quite some time and had only grown, having no plans of leaving, taking no steps towards the exit. It wasn’t just friendship; she knew that for certain. It wasn’t a negative feeling at all, either. She only ever felt this way around Maya.
Wait. Her thoughts were getting distracted again. She internally sighed.
“Continue?” She offered her ear once more, certain that her constant partner had more to tell.
“Ah, yes. Well.” She cleared her throat. “No one would fancy that. Being…yes. That. Um.” Was it always this hard to form words? Maya thought. “I- he, we talked. And. I-“ She could usually speak her mind so confidently, unabashed and eloquent. As of now, she was reduced to a bumbling pile of fool.
But Claudine never saw her that way. “Take your time.” She whispered, squeezing Maya’s hand once more, red eyes offering mental solace to Maya. “Take your time.”
Maya nodded, breathing in and out. “Long story short, I told him, I finally told him with enough conviction that… I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to be his trophy, I didn’t want to be his shadow, I didn’t want to be his little doll or mascot, or toy or tool; I-“ She grinned, turning to face Claudine fully with a blinding smile. “I don’t want to be married off to whatever buffoon he chooses, who has clearly just the same amount of toxic ego as him. I can only imagine the people he currently associates with and favors.” Maya shook her head in disgust.
Claudine simply ran her thumb over the back of Maya’s hand, humming in reply.
“He wasn’t always like that.” The way Maya said that broke the child actress’ heart for the umpteenth time that day. “He used to be so much more than… whatever remains of him now.”
Claudine could only go on with her nonverbal responses, continuing to play with Maya’s hand in an effort to send her comfort. The latter appreciated it greatly.
“He was a better man… you know?”
Claudine offered the back of Maya’s hand a kiss, barely missing the blush that was quick to come and go on her face. “I know. Where would such a wonderfully, captivatingly, infuriatingly, charming lady such as yourself come from, otherwise?”
This time, Maya did blush.
The silent awkwardness made Claudine follow suit.
They sat there in discomfort as time passed before Maya broke the tension with a gentle tone.
“Ma Claudine.” That one phrase sent the said girl’s soul soaring. Maya shifted closer to her, blush still apparent on her face as she leaned over to lay her head on Claudine’s shoulder. “Don’t you want to know why I don’t want to get married to anyone my father chooses?”
“Aside from the fact that they might as well be narcissistic, idiotic pricks?” Maya burst into a sweet laughter at that, giving Claudine the sudden urge to embrace her and pray to hear that sound forever and ever-
These thoughts really, never taking a break.
Wiping a happy tear from her eye, the brunette responded, “Aside from that, yes.”.
“I-“ Claudine chanced a glance at the girl resting on her shoulder before staring up at the ceiling. “I don’t really know. Maybe you have someone e-else in mind?” Curse her stuttering. What was that all about?
“Oh! As expected of Saijou-san. How bright~.” Maya teased, and though her voice was playful, Claudine couldn’t find it in herself to play along. She didn’t like the sudden need to pull away and put distance between herself and Maya at this knowledge that the other actually had someone she liked. “Yes, this person seriously plagues my mind. At the start, I may have found it the slightest bit annoying.”
“Oh yeah?” Claudine knew her voice held that tinge of anger that wasn’t her usual schtick. This, she knew, was laced with hurt and a jealousy towards someone she probably had never met before. It made her feel pathetic. She pulled her hand away from Maya, extracting her whole body, stunning the said girl before she regained her composure, shocking Claudine with her next action.
Arms on either side of her head, Claudine was successfully pinned down by one Tendou Maya, eyes screaming an emotion that felt familiar, yet not to Claudine at the same time.
“Yeah.” Claudine could feel the ghost of Maya’s breath at their proximity. She swallowed.
“Well, lucky them, huh. Snagging the oh-so-great Tendou Maya.” Claudine made for a break once more, only to have her exit blocked as Maya now held her hands, lacing their fingers once more as she held Claudine in place, bent over her.
“Yes, I would hope they do feel lucky. After all, my father told me if I really wanted to do what I wanted, to marry whoever I wanted, to live as I pleased; If I wanted to prove that I could make it on my own, with my own efforts, without the name of my parents, or their backing…” She leaned down just another inch closer.
Far too close in Claudine’s honest opinion.
Maya continued. “He said I could start by walking all the way back here without calling for help, a ride, or anything.” She chuckled. “That sadistic ass even rode alongside me just to make sure. I’m glad I made it. I’d do it again if this is all it took to shut him up.”
Maya was so close now, her forehead bumping Claudine’s. The blonde could only stare mesmerized by those determined eyes.
“Gosh, and to think it’s partially just for that one infuriating person.”
So the infuriating person could find someone else infuriating huh?
“Yes, I can.” Maya laughed.
Ah, so Claudine had spoken that aloud.
“Yes, you did.”
Claudine rolled her eyes. “Well I apologize for that if it happened to offend you. Not that I haven’t said it before.”
“I’m used to it, I would say.”
“It would do you good. What if the person you like finds you infuriating as well one day?”
Maya’s laughter could only grow as she nuzzled her nose against Claudine’s.
“Ma Claudine, how can you be so dense? Ah certainly the person who plagues my thoughts makes it difficult for me to control myself, to bear my emotions and my musings, and all of those above. Really,” Maya brought a hand to cup Claudine’s face gingerly. “I think of you so much I wish you’d return the sentiment. Otherwise, I wish you’d find the exit out of my head-”
Claudine felt her breath stall in her lungs.
“…And find the entrance to my heart instead.”
That certainly did her in, the damage to her heart so great no coherent thought or word could hope to be formed as Claudine could only manage to splutter out noises as her face burned with emotion.
Well, she probably didn’t need her lips to speak anymore anyway, not when they were now occupied with reciprocating the tender embrace of Tendou Maya’s.
If Claudine could combust… oh, but she probably already did.
She had wormed her way in through the entrance to Maya’s heart, and she supposed it wasn’t so bad if she never found the exit.
 A/N: I appreciate any and all feedback!
Sudden spur of the moment to write this so I sped through it in under 2 hours. Ciao!

Light After Dark: Chapter Two
Summary: Brooke Harris was trying her best to be grateful. As the world tackled the COVID-19 pandemic, she was healthy and safe and so was the rest of her family, but her dreams had very quickly been crushed by the economic fallout. Trapped on the quaint island of Jersey with nothing, but free time to wallow in her mistakes, Brooke’s mental health was taking a hit, but when she collides with a handsome stranger she starts to realize that the future might not be so bleak and there might still be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Pairing: Henry Cavill x OFC
Note: I was planning for this to be longer so I’m sorry if this is a bit of a boring chapter, but I figured something is better than nothing and it gives some more insight into Brooke’s life. The next chapter shouldn’t take me as long as this one did so don’t lose hope! And a big thank you for every like and reblog of chapter one!
______________
April. 17. 2020
Considering I was anxious and restless before injuring my ankle, the few days after were fairly close to absolute hell. I couldn't put much weight on it, not enough to walk on, so I was stuck on the couch with my foot raised up on the ottoman unable to hobble away from my mother's fussing. She felt guilty for forcing me out of the house the day I got hurt and therefore felt she needed to hover and fret around me all day to make up for it. I mean, it was nice to have someone bring me drinks and snacks whenever I needed them, but for the most part constantly being asked if I was alright and the endless fluffing of cushions was suffocating.
There was a reprieve though on the fifth day after my injury. For once, during the evening, everyone was off doing their own thing and I had the living room to myself. I had a full glass of wine, a bowl of popcorn and I was enjoying the peace and quiet. It was just the break I'd needed and I was feeling fully refreshed as my movie finished and my sister flopped down on the couch next to me.
"Hey, Cassie," I greeted her, but was met with a simple grunt in response. "Where's Molly?"
"I sent her out to the garden with Mum," She sighed. "I just got off the phone with Luke."
I shot her a sympathetic look before nodding my head towards the bottle of wine on the table.
"Pour yourself a glass," I instructed. "You look like you need it."
She nodded, quickly dragged herself off the couch and headed to the kitchen before appearing moments later with a glass in her hand. Once she'd poured herself some wine, topped mine off and settled in, I resumed my questioning.
"Is Luke doing alright?"
She sighed again and took a large gulp of her drink before nodding.
"He is, yeah," She assured me. "It's just hard. He misses us, Molly in particular of course, and he's down about all the horrible things he's been seeing. So like, he's fine, but he's not. He's struggling emotionally, I can tell, but he doesn't want to talk about it when I call. And I'm so worried about him. They don't have enough PPE, supplies are dwindling, as if his job just isn't dangerous enough at times like this."
Her words came out in practically all one breath as she toyed with the necklace around her neck, one that Luke had bought her just before we left London. Her grip on the wine glass in her hand had me worried she would snap the stem, but my heart really went out to her.
"He's going to be fine," I assured her, knowing my lack of expertise on the subject would really do little to comfort her. "Luke is responsible and cautious. Even if they don't have enough protective equipment, he won't go running into a situation that isn't safe. He knows what he has to lose if he gets sick, he'll do anything to make sure he gets back to you safely at the end of all this."
"I know, I know," She took another swig from her glass. "But it's not always in his control and I know him well enough to know he wouldn't ignore someone who needed help just because he didn't have the right protection."
"But he'll take whatever precautions he can," I insisted. "He loves you more than he loves the job."
"I know," She repeated with a sigh. "It's just hard being apart for so long. I really miss him."
"I know you do," I smiled sympathetically. "I can't even imagine how hard that must be, but if we all just stay home and away from other people this whole mess can't go on forever."
Cassie shot me a suspicious look with a smirk on her face.
"That's the most positive thing I've heard you say since we got here. Are you feeling okay? Did Dad slip you some good painkillers?"
I tried to swat at her from my side of the couch, but my elevated ankle restricted my movement.
"Shut up," I rolled my eyes. "Being the tortured, mopey one is my thing. I'm just trying to stop you from stealing my aesthetic."
"Your aesthetic?" Cassie raised an eyebrow at my word choice. "You sound like a wannabe teenage Instagram model."
I giggled, realizing it was true.
"What can I say?" I asked in a very bad valley girl american accent. "I like totally have to keep my followers happy or I won't get any likes."
She stared at me blankly for a moment before she burst out laughing.
"That was horrifying," She informed me. "Please, never do that again."
"Oh, you just wait," I teased. "Only a few more years until Molly discovers the world of likes and followers..."
She cringed at the thought.
"A few? I'm hoping for at least ten..."
"Ten?!" I laughed at her optimism. "Maybe five, but I seriously doubt she'll stay off social media until she's seventeen."
"I didn't have Instagram until I was twenty-four."
"Only because it didn't exist," I scoffed. "If it was around when we were teenagers, you would have been all over it."
"But we didn't so I can still hold that over Molly's head when she starts insisting she needs it," She smirked as she reached for the bottle of wine on the table. That was when she noticed that Man of Steel was on the TV. "Oh my god, are you watching his movie?"
I felt my cheeks up as I realized she'd caught me, but I tried to play it cool.
"I've never seen the whole thing," I shrugged. "It was on Netflix so I figured I'd give it a go, it wasn't because he's in it."
"Oh, I see," She nodded as she filled her glass and poured the last splash into mine. "It's just a coincidence that after being carried around in Superman's arms, you're suddenly interested in watching his movie."
Her words were dripping with sarcasm, but I just rolled my eyes.
"He carried me out of necessity," I reminded her. "And I told him he didn't have to."
"How was it out of necessity if he didn't have to?" She smirked. "And then he just had to have your phone number, was that out of necessity too?"
I tossed the last few kernels of my popcorn at her, but she just shielded her face as she laughed.
"Asking for my phone number was clearly out of politeness," I informed her. "Since I haven't heard anything from him."
"Didn't he message you that night after you met?"
I nodded, but felt a familiar disappointment.
"He did," I confirmed. "And we chatted a bit, but I haven't head from him since."
"Well that was only, what? Four days ago?" Cassie pointed out. "That's not long enough to give up hope, he's probably just busy."
I raised an eyebrow at her suggestion.
"Busy doing what? We're in the middle of a pandemic, no one can go anywhere or do anything."
"People still have commitments," She reminded me, frowning at my pessimism. "And mum says he hasn't been home for ages so he's probably got a lot of catching up to do with his family."
"I guess that's true."
"Besides," She started, a smirk replacing her frown. "Why do you even care so much?"
"I don't!" I lied. "It doesn't even matter. Nothing could happen between us anyway with all this going on. He's just nice to look at so it was nice to daydream for a moment."
"Of course something could happen! My friend met a new guy on a dating app since all this started and she seems really happy with him."
"Have they even met yet?"
"No," Cassie admitted sensing my skepticism. "But you have met Henry so you don't have that issue!"
"But we wouldn't be able to get within six feet of each other for potentially a few months," I resisted. "And even when we can get closer to each other, kissing or whatever might not be allowed until there's a vaccine so what’s the point?"
"Ooh, ‘or whatever’," Cassie wiggled her eyebrows, her low alcohol tolerance clearly showing. "But seriously, if things start easing up in a couple months then kissing a man might not be so dangerous."
"I have asthma," I reminded her. "Kissing a man could actually kill me."
She tossed her head back and groaned at my stubbornness.
"Well by the time you're able to, you might not even want to. But you won't know unless you send him a fucking text."
As she was speaking, the door to the back patio flung open and a tiny, but very loud voice filled the room.
"Mummy said a naughty word!"
My niece, Molly, screamed as she flew through the door.
"She did!" I agreed. "That wasn't very polite of her, was it?"
"No!" Molly shook her head, dirt that had been smeared in her hair falling to the floor from the motion. "Naughty words hurt people's feelings!"
"They do! My feelings are very hurt."
Molly frowned at that information as she put her dirty little hands on her hips.
"Mummy, you need to apologize."
Cassie rolled her eyes as she turned to me and I smirked.
"I'm sorry for using a naughty word and hurting your feelings, Brooke," She said reluctantly. "But I stand by what I said. You don't have to wait for him to make the first move."
"The first move?" Molly questioned, her face lighting up. "Are you playing a game? Can I play?"
I laughed at her enthusiasm as her mother and I shook our heads.
"No, sweetie, we're not playing a game," Cassie told her. "And you can't do anything until we get you all cleaned up! Shall we go run you a bath?"
Molly looked disappointed, but nodded her little head.
"I got really dirty helping Nana plant some plants..."
"I can see that," Cassie smiled. "Let's go wash it all off."
I smiled as they left the room, leaving me to my thoughts. I went back and forth on whether I should message Henry and was just about to pull out my phone to maybe write a draft when my parents came through the door Molly had just appeared in. Taking it as a sign to not do what I was about to do, I locked my phone and put it back down.
"Hey, sweetie," My mum smiled at me. "Do you need anything?"
"No, I'm fine," I assured her. "And honestly, my ankle's a lot better. I can hobble around enough to look after myself."
"I know, but you don't need to while I'm here," She insisted. "I never get to dote on you girls much anymore, it's been nice having an excuse."
"I know and I appreciate it, but I'm fine."
My mom nodded and kissed my head as she walked past on her way to the stairs that Cassie had just chased Molly up.
"Just shout if you need anything," My dad added as he followed her. "Goodnight, kiddo."
The days were getting longer so I hadn't realized it was almost eight o'clock already. I shouted my goodnights before putting the empty wine glasses in the empty popcorn bowl, scooping up my phone and limping into the kitchen. Once the dishes were tidied away, I went up to my room and quickly changed into some pajamas before getting comfortable on my bed with my foot elevated once again.
I set my laptop up next to me with something mindless playing on Netflix before turning my attention back to my phone. I opened my conversation with Henry, but I was at a loss for words. He was a world famous superstar. He worked with and probably dated some of the most attractive women in the world. Why would he want to hear from me?
I closed the conversation again with a sigh, wishing I had some more wine to relieve some of my inhibitions. I was just about to put my phone away in defeat when a stroke of curiosity hit me and I opened Instagram instead. I liked a few posts that friends had made before tapping on the search bar and tentatively typing Henry's name. A few fan pages popped up, but his account was there with that coveted blue tick. I felt a strange nervous bubbling in my stomach, like I was somehow infringing on his privacy, but it was there for anyone to see so I decided to scroll just a bit.
He didn't post much, but that made sense from what I knew of him. He didn't strike me as the kind of person who wanted everything in his life to be on display plus he was a pretty busy guy with all the movies and shows he'd been in lately. There were a few pictures of Kal, a few pictures of some baking and cooking he'd been doing, a few horses and some lovely selfies. One in particular caught my eye. He was wearing a rugby jersey and his hair was long with a slight curl. His jaw was strong and he looked incredibly handsome.
I clicked on it eagerly, hoping to get a better look, but my heart sank instantly as that little heart popped up. I'd liked it. A picture from six months ago. He would know I was creeping through his photos, it was such a rookie mistake! I cursed myself, quickly closing the app and tossing my phone onto the bed as if it never happened if I couldn't see it. My cheeks burned with embarrassment and I suddenly remembered why I always felt like social media was much more suitable for the younger generations.

Love is confessing
Part 1. Love is a lot of doubts
Part 2. Love is a lot of texts
Part 3. Love is not knowing
Tumblr media
I hadn’t felt the need to write in days as I had before and I thought that meant I’m getting over it but I woke up this morning to a text of his and I felt a pinch on my heart so I guess I’m just better at not thinking about him constantly, which then again sounds like a part of getting over it.
The next thing I wanted to write about was the moment he knew about me and Luke. I hadn’t told him but then again I hadn’t told anyone. I didn’t even tell Cody. In fact, Cody still doesn’t know. It was not that I was ashamed of it. Not at all. In fact, at some point I was dying to tell somebody especially because I needed someone to just hear my doubts out and help me get my thoughts- and my feelings- straight. But still I didn’t tell anybody. I also wanted to keep it to myself.
Yet he did. It’s not like Luke and I have talked about keeping it a secret or anything but he had been the one to make clear that we were nothing more than friends with benefits and that he didn’t have feelings for me. I was okay with that. I then learnt that Sam, another friend of ours, had liked me since he met me at the villa and that was why Luke was keeping it low-key when we were all together and despite what Harry said, I knew then he actually did not want a relationship with me because he was the one who talked to me about Sam’s feelings.
We were lying in bed after sex and I was caressing his hair. It was the night of my birthday and we had had sex at my room at my nana’s house. Obviously she wasn’t home- she hadn’t been home in months for she lived with us then since she didn’t want to live alone. My room at Nana’s had a huge mirror occupying a whole wall for the closets’ doors where mirrors so I could look at both Luke and myself while we were having sex. I think that was the first time I ever rode a man and I had always thought if I ever did that it would be with a bra on but that night I wasn’t wearing a bra at all- for it was summer and my jumpsuit was strapless so it would have looked terrible- and I was just there, straddling him completely naked, bouncing up and down, and my hair had been down initially because it felt like some sort of cover up but then I had tied up my head in a bun- and I had always hated how I look with my hair up- but otherwise my hair would get in the way when I leaned down to kiss him and it was very hot and we were both sweating and he kept having to spit my hair out of his mouth so I just leaned back and tied it up and I can still remember the way he looked at me as if he had never seen something quite like that.
I felt beautiful, I felt sexy, I loved my body then. I looked to the side so I could watch us and I could see him staring straight at me, not even paying attention to the mirror much, and I could tell he liked it, that I would want to watch us, that I was so comfortable in my own skin, that I would let him see and touch and enjoy but not own, for I was the owner and it was clear, but I was sharing with him and he liked that.
That time he came before I did and he had rolled us over so he was on top and then he had cum in no time and I had chuckled a little and he had said “well that was too much, with you on top and that mirror... Mate, I thought I was dying” and I had kissed him and then he had lied down on top of me. I didn’t even mind not having finished- I had enjoyed that from the begining to the end- and then I thought sometimes it wasn’t necessary to have an orgasm to have good sex. I didn’t feel let down either and I hoped he didn’t feel like he had left something undone.
But then when were lying there and I was caressing his hair and he had his cheek resting against my bare chest, he started talking. He asked me if I liked somebody and I said I didn’t and in that moment, this I know for sure, the thought of Harry didn’t cross my mind once. Then I asked him. Maybe he was asking me as a prelude before he told me “oh yeah, her name is Mary but she doesn’t like me back” but he never did and then I learnt he really didn’t like anybody else. He kept asking me.
“Well, who do you think there’s anyone who might like you?” He asked.
I looked up at the ceiling. Sam had been talking to me quite a lot and I rather liked Sam- as a friend- so I thought it might be the same for him because I did text him back and we did share songs and stories and it didn’t mean anything for me so why would it mean something for him? But then again he was a guy and one of my friends had said once a guy who isn’t your friend wouldn’t text you every day for no reason- even a guy who is your friend apparently wouldn’t text you every day for no reason- so I just sighed and spoke my mind.
“I think, even though it sounds a little self-important, that Sam might be flirting with me.”
He looked up at me from my chest and gave me a knowing little smirk. He knew something.
“What has he told you?”
“He didn’t tell me.” He shook his head. “Sarah did.”
Sarah was his best friend after all. Sarah was both their best friend.
“Do you like him?” He asked and he seemed rather relaxed as if he was saying “because if you do you just have to say it and then I’ll be out of the picture”.
“I don’t.” I shook my head.
“I don’t want him to get hurt.” He sighed and then he looked up at me again and moved a little up my body so his lips were on mine and he smiled before he kissed me. “But I like fucking you.”
I smiled in the kiss as well and I supressed my will of telling him “well this time, I think I fucked you instead” because I knew how guys were and I knew he wouldn’t get it. He pulled apart after a long kiss and then pecked my neck and then laid his head on the mattress next to my ribs. His arm was intertwined with my leg and his fingers caressed the inner side of my thigh until his hand slowly moved to my core and then I whimped and he started touching me and after some torturous, slow circling movements, he changed his position so he was hovering me and he slipped his fingers inside my wet channel and touched me until one of my legs fell from the bed and I came undone, hard, against the mattress. He hadn’t forgotten I hadn’t had an orgasm.
Then that weekend he went up to Harry’s sister’s house at the beach with Aiden and he told him. Aiden alright knew. In fact he had made some jokes about it to me, knowing me well enough to know I would just laugh along, but then when he told Harry I wasn’t expecting that reaction from him.
Harry and I were really close at the moment. We would text every single day, all the time, it was just a never ending conversation really, and in fact I would chat more with Harry than I did with Luke; and I was sure Harry knew me better than Luke did, even if Luke had seen me naked and had been inside me. I don’t know why my friends’ words about a guy texting you every day hadn’t rung in my head when it came about Harry; but I guess somehow I just assume we were nothing more than friends and his texts were just so frequent because he wasn’t home so we couldn’t just hang out and have a beer and talk; but the night he heard about me and Luke, he didn’t text me.
I woke up that night at 4 am because of a nightmare, and this is one hundred percent true, and I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I texted him because that’s what I always did when I had a nightmare and his answer was “why don’t you text Luke?” . I remember those words hurt like a slap on the face so I texted him back “are you up?” and he said he was so I asked if I could call him and he gave me the permission I was hoping for.
I went out to the balcony at my father’s house and the moon was shinning bright still up in the sky and I sat down on a black metal chair, knowing the tiny holes on the seat would leave marks on my bare legs and the bars would be uncomfortable on my back. It wasn’t hot anymore but it was nice to be out in nothing but a thin cotton t-shirt and shorts. He picked up after the second ring.
“Hi” I whispered, afraid I was to wake up my father.
“Hi” He replied.
“Where are you?”
“I’m at the beach.”
“Where are the lads?”
“They took a cab. I suggested walking home from the beach bar we were in along the beach but Aiden had a way too big burger and he says he can’t walk so they took the cab. I still wanted to have a walk though.”
“Are you mad?” I could tell he was. I have always been able to tell when he was mad or serious by the tone of his voice. He’s very expressive. “At me?”
“Yes.” He was kind of drunk too.
“Why is that?”
“Why didn’t you tell me about Luke?” He sounded so hurt by that I got up from the chair.
“Is that why you’re mad?”
“Well, yeah, I mean... We talk every day... I thought I knew like... Everything about you... I mean you do know everything about me... And then he comes here and Aiden is giving him a hard time about you and he blushes and giggles like a fucking teenager and I’m just there not knowing what the fuck is going on and then he tells me... Do you know how stupid I’ve felt? Like... If you had seen my face... I looked like an idiot.”
I frowned. I didn’t know where all of that was coming from but it was as if I could see him just standing at the beach alone at 4 am, with the white moon shining bright on top of his head, and I could listen to the waves brushing against the shore and I wanted to understand what he was saying but the only thing that was in my head was him going “actually no, I have never thought about it” and I didn’t know what he meant anymore.
“Well, I mean it’s not like I have to tell you who I sleep with or who I don’t, Haz.”
“I know” he pointed out “but you didn’t even tell me you liked him like how the fuck did that happen?”
“Well, I don’t know.”
Except I did know. I had tried to flirt with him and he had rejected me so then I had flirted with Luke and that’s how that had happened and in that moment, I actually liked Luke. I was going to Italy in a month anyway but I liked him. That was the truth.
“You don’t know?” He almost mimicked.
“Well, you know, Haz, how these things work. It’s not like you’ve never slept with anybody.”
“I didn’t know you had a thing for Luke.” He insisted.
“I don’t have a thing for Luke, we’re just fucking.”
“Is that right?”
“Yes, haven’t he told you? We’re just friends, nothing more.”
“No, Anna, we are friends. He’s doing you.”
“Don’t say it like that.”
“Why not? Isn’t that what’s happening?”
“Well I’m doing him too. Don’t be sexist.”
“Of course you are.”
I had had enough.
“Okay, you know what? You have no reason to be mad. Me not telling you I’ve fucked somebody is not a reason to get mad so when you’re done being an asshole and you’re back to being Harry, please let me know so I can catch up with my friend.”
With that I hang up. What an ass! I couldn’t believe Harry out of all people was slut shaming me. As if I had done something wrong. And having to tell him? As if he was my guardian or as if I needed his permission to sleep with whoever the fuck I want. He had told me that fucking story about Maria and how he wanted to sleep with her and then he acted as if he somehow owned me. That was just wrong. And selfish. And stupid.
The good thing was I had forgotten about my nightmare. The bad thing was I couldn’t sleep anyway. He sent me a long text about thirty minutes after I had hang up on him and I don’t remember the whole thing but I do remember reading “out of all the guys in the world, you had to fuck my best friend” and that sentece got stuck in my head. I didn’t reply of course and when I woke up the next morning, I found out he had erased the text so I knew he had written that drunk and in the heat of the moment and I was relief he had regretted it because I thought that meant he wasn’t mad anymore.
He texted me the following day. “I’m not an asshole anymore and I’m sorry.” I still had to wait for another week before I could see him and when I did I almost killed him.
We all went out to a club we got obsessed with over that summer the night Harry finally came back after his summer family holidays. It wasn’t like anyone else had gone away with their families and then come back but Harry was just that charismatic and he managed to get almost everyone together when he came back. I was dying to see him. After our first fight we had gotten even closer together, I guess because we found out our friendship was a real one, strong enough to overcome a fight and still be closer than the rest of people.
I remember his smile when I arrived. I got to our bar a little late as usual when all of them were already there, except from Luke whom I bumped into at the entrance of the bar and we both chuckled and entered together. Not many people knew about us, or so I thought, for I hadn’t told anybody and I didn’t know how many people he had talked to about it; yet Harry did. He still grinned at me as I made my way inside the bar and even though he was sitting in the middle of the table and he didn’t fit between the chairs and the wall so he had to make everyone stand up, he did just that and everyone just looked at me and then stood up without a single complaint and he wrapped his arms around me and held me close in his warm embrace.
“You’re so tanned.” He noticed.
“How are you not? You’ve been to the beach.”
“You know I’m a health-freak using sun protection every twenty minutes.”
I laughed out loud. He then looked at Luke from the corner of his eyes and wiggled his eyebrows.
“Fourth round?” He whispered.
I giggled and swatted his shoulder making him chuckle. He was counting. I shook my head and explained I had just bumped into him at the entrance.
“He’s lucky even for that... Fucking bastard.”
He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and walked with me to the bar, ordering two pints and grinning and staring at me until our pints were on the bar.
“You look fucking beautiful.” He complimented.
“How many pints have you had already?”
He threw his head back and laughed and I remember I felt a warm wave starting in my heart and gradually lighting it up. I smiled at him. God, how much had I missed him and how much was I going to miss him when I was all the way in Italy! I tried to push that thought away from my mind. As happy as I am in Italy now, I can remember at the time I didn’t even want to go, and it was for things like that. I felt Luke’s eyes on me as I talked to Harry but all my attention was on him and on his stories about the songs he had learnt and the things he had not told me through text so he could tell me then.
I don’t know how many beers we had at our bar but I was already drunk when we made our way inside the club and Harry was even drunker but he kept drinking. Luke didn’t seem to be in the mood for drinking and for some reason that day I felt him a little more distant than he had been the weeks before.
That was the thing about Luke- he was a roller coaster. One day he was all over me and he was stealing kisses or grabbing my bum when no one was watching and then other times he wouldn’t even talk to me like I remember he was doing that night. Being drunk and happy and feeling like I could because after all he had told Harry without my consent, I told Joey as we both waited for our drinks at the bar.
“What?” He grinned.
“Yeah!”
“You’re lying.” He set his blue eyes into mine, as if challenging me to spill out the truth but I just shook my head, grinning like a little girl.
“Am not.”
“What?” He laughed. “So you’re not... But... Dude, I thought you and Harry had a thing.”
“No.” I laughed. “That’s what you guys all think but we’re just friends.”
Joey kept looking at me with a grin on his face. He still thought I was just messing with him.
“We’ll go find Luke so you can ask him.” I laughed.
“Okay.”
As Joey and I walked back towards the group, Harry lifted his eyebrows at me as if he had been waiting for me to come back and I gave him a smile and let him know I’d join him in a minute. Luke was sitting on a stool on the table next to Harry’s and all around them, sitting on stools or standing, there were all our friends just chatting and drinking still before they played the music.
“I told Joey about us because you told everybody else and I wanted to tell him.” I explained to him cheerfuly but Luke didn’t even smile. “But he doesn’t believe me.”
“It’s true.” Luke told him.
“Well then kiss him.” He challenged me.
I laughed.
“Are you serious?”
“Yeah! I mean if it’s true that you’ve fucked him you’ll have no problem kissing him, right?”
“Well, no.”
I smiled amused at Joey and his childish antics and then I turned my head to Luke’s and cupped his cheek with my hand so I could peck his lips. He let me but I could tell he had tensed up. I looked back at Joey and rase my eyebrows, trying to dismiss Luke’s rejection, and Joey just laughed and shook his head.
“You guys.” And with that he left.
I tried not to comment on Luke’s attitude but I’d lie if I said it didn’t hurt me a little. I felt like I was very opened to him- in every sense of the word- but then he could make me feel like this very easily. Then I was afraid I had crossed a line because I had never been friends with benefits with anyone but maybe this was exactly where it ended and kissing each other on the lips out there in public wasn’t something friends with benefits did. I just wanted to walk away from him and chat with other friends but he grabbed my wrist and pulled me a little away from the group so he could talk to me.
“Hey” he started “it’s not that I didn’t want to kiss you, okay?”
He bore his hazel eyes into mine and a sudden atmosphere of intimacy wrapped around us but I avoided his eyes and looked ahead. I could feel his eyes on mine even though I was looking far into the distance because I was embarrassed and I didn’t want to see myself in his eyes.
“It’s just that Sam is here and ever since I learnt about how he feels about you I’ve just been feeling awkward when he’s around too, you know? I mean, he’s my friend, I don’t want to hurt him.”
“Yes, you’ve said that.”
With that I walked away from him and towards Harry and I rested my buttocks against his lap since he was sitting on a high stool. I wanted the Earth to swallow me when I realized he had probably seen the whole thing- my pathetic peck, Luke’s rejection, and then my face of an idiot as Luke talked me down like an upset little girl.
“Not really.” I confessed. “I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with Luke.”
He had been listening to the rest of the people at the table before but the minute I arrived he gave me his full attention and nobody thought of interrupting us.
“What happened?”
“Well, it’s just... He keeps telling me pretty much every day that he doesn’t have feelings for me but I mean I know that, neither do I, but... He could... At least not treat me as a sperm reservoir.”
“Is that how he makes you feel?”
“Sometimes.” I shrugged and then I turned so I was facing him, still using his lap as support though. “But that’s the thing, it’s not all the time, if he treated me like that all the time, I would have ended things a long time ago but... It’s like... I mean...” I looked into his green eyes, not sure whether what I wanted to share with him was aproppriate. “Can I talk to you about this?”
“Sure.” He straightened his back and I knew that meant he was ready to hold whatever I was going to lay on him. “You can tell me anything.”
“Well... You know how we are just fuck buddies, right? And I mean I’ve never had one before so I’m not sure how it works but it’s like... He’s very affectionate when we are alone, you know? And then when we are on a group, he doesn’t even look at me.”
“He does look at you.” He nodded his head. “And, Anna, that’s just what a decent person would do. I mean sure you’re fuck buddies but it’s just what you said, it doesn’t mean you have to treat the other person like a blow-up doll. I mean it’s normal that after sex you cuddle and after all you guys are friends. Friends hug each other, don’t they?” He smiled. “And... About telling you he doesn’t have feelings for you all the time... I think he’s saying that more to himself that he’s saying that to you.”
I held his sincere gaze for a few seconds before I shook my head.
“He doesn’t have feelings for me.” I knew that for a fact. “But I think he knows I do.”
“You do.”
“Yes.” I didn’t look at him as I confirmed that but my eyes searched for his a second after that because I was about to open up my heart for him and I wanted to look into his eyes as I did that. “That’s why I slept with him the first time in the first place. You know I’ve liked him for as long as I’ve known him and I thought since I was going to Italy on a month, it was the perfect moment to just sleep with him and get it over with so that I could move on after that, you know? Because otherwise I think I’d always have the possibility on my head like a heavy cloud. But now it goes like this: I’ve gotten what I wanted, he has had sex with me- which is what he wanted too- and then I’ll go to Italy and we’ll stay just friends like we’ve always been.”
“Does he know that?”
“Yes.” I lied. “Kind of. I mean I haven’t gotten into details.”
Harry nodded his head. He seemed like he was measuring everything I had said, trying to make sense of my mind on his, and I think he did because he then looked up at me and his eyes seemed different.
“Well Luke is an idiot.” He announced. “He’s always been, so that’s probably why he’s sending all this confusing messages to you. I don’t think he’s doing that on purpose. He’s just very strange when it comes to relationships. I mean even when he was with his ex girlfriend Cece, you know her, right?” I nodded. “Well she kept complaining about that same thing you just said that he would act as if they were nothing when they were with other friends.” Harry shrugged. “So don’t take it personally.” He smiled.
He’d never know how grateful I was that day and all the other days that followed, when his advices and the way he listened to me would be the only thing that manage to make me see things differently. I gave him a smile back before I leaned down and pressed a peck to his cheek.
“You’re the best.” I praised him.
“Yeah but you fuck the other.” He joked.
I laughed out loud at that and then I hugged him because in that moment all the love I could give him didn’t seem enough to show my gratitude. His hands wrapped around the lower part of my back and he pulled me to him, still chuckling at his own joke.
“Fucking Luke.... Lucky bastard.”
I think I’ve said before but I’ll say it again- Harry is just the funniest friend I have- so I kept laughing with him and I think I spent the whole night with him. We got so wasted it got to a point where I forgot where Luke was or even if he had already left. I was just with Harry.
I was sitting on Harry’s stool waiting for him to come back from the bar with new drinks- as if we needed any more- when Patrick (or should I say adorable Patrick) came up to me and talked to me about him.
“So” He started.
He was drunk as fuck and I could tell by the spark in his eyes. He was also the shiest one in the group so every time we had talked it had been me initiating the conversation and the fact that he had just approached me like that gave him away. I chuckled at his drunkenness.
“You and Harry” I laughed “what is that about?”
“What is what about? I don’t know what you mean.”
He just raised his brows at me and opened his eyes wide making me laugh harder.
“We’re just friends.”
“Right!” He chuckled. “You like him-”
“I’m going to Italy for a year in less than a month” I cut his dreams short.
“-and he likes you back.” He finished his thought nonetheless. “So what?”
“It would never work.” I smiled at him, he was making me feel so much fondness at the moment.
“Well why do you say that? I for one think it would. I’ve seen you guys all summer and it’s so obvious you’re all over each other! I mean it’s true that it sucks that you’re leaving but... You could try?”
I smiled at him. Then I spotted Harry making his way towards us and the next thing I said I meant.
“We’ll see when I’m back.” I told Patrick. “I mean... I do like him and... I think he might like me too but this is just not the right time for us. But when I’m back...” I smiled.
He seemed happy with that because he nodded and then he walked away. My friend Barbie, also drunk as fuck, came to shout some story at me. I could barely understand what she was saying but I chuckled when she did until Harry got to us and for some reason she wiggled her eyebrows at me and took it as her cue to leave.
“I have no idea what she was saying.” I told Harry. “Thanks.” I grabbed the drink he was handing me.
“Patrick just stopped me on my way here and encouraged me to kiss you and said it wasn’t a problem that you were going to Italy.”
I threw my head back and laughed. Fucking Patrick.
“He’s so invested into us.” Harry laughed along.
“I know!” I laughed. “He talked to me as well. I told him we’ll see when I’m back from Italy.”
I think that was the first time, after having said that out loud twice and having gotten Harry’s reaction to my words, that I actually believed it. Maybe it was even the first time I had thought about it but after that it had become a recurring thought- that I’d come back from Italy and Harry and I could start something. He looked into my eyes, dead serious, and after a few seconds he narrowed his eyes and got closer to me so he could lower his voice down.
“Anna” He almost whispered “do you remember when you called me the night Luke told me about you two?”
“Yes.”
“Well I wasn’t mad because you hadn’t told me.” He confessed. “I was jealous.”
The world crambled at my feet. That was everything I had wanted him to say for the entire summer until I slept with Luke and then everything started to change. It was hard for me to separate the euphoria of sex and actual feelings but I was sure I liked Luke before that night and then when I heard that, I really do almost killed him. I don’t know for how long I just stood there looking into his eyes, with lips parted and a bleeding heart. What had he just said?
“You’re an idiot.” For he had been the one who had said he had never thought about it.
“Guys, Barbie just fainted.”

His Majesty's Dark Queen Chap 3
Note: yeah, got me whole week to write this chap. It's like 4A.M in my country now, and I'm still typing :D Oh and I forgot to introduce the background of the series. Let's assume everything in this fanfic is just like the main series, except that Star doesn't erase magic in the end, okay? Good. Now, let's enjoy chapter 3 ^^
Previous | Next | AO3
“So, what's that all about?” In the end, Tania can’t just let her friend out of the bar, and because this time seems kinda serious. She gets Tom the “dumped-seat” then comfort him.
“About what?”
“The GIRL, man!! The GIRL! It must be a girl, who dumped you, so you were so sad like this! No, this time must be very serious. I have never seen you sad like this ever since… since… you broke up with that Nana…”
“It’s Jana.”
“…. That Jana. The weird lady from Erath, you said. Man, maybe I have never met your Starship and know about you two’s past, but I've heard enough about your Janna. You two were like… born for each other. What could be better suited for a demon, like a demon lover? You talked to me about Jana like this, Jana like that. You were so happy, I thought when I finally get a chance to met your girlfriend, is when I received the wedding invitation. But then you came here, told me that she broke up with you, and you was sad for a long time. I also had to take you to places like Amethyst Arcade or Quest Buy to make you feel better, even introduce you new girlfriend. It took you half a year to get over it.” Tania tried to sound dramatic. She stretched her voice, deliberately pressing, waving, rolling her eyes. Tom could not resist this, hugging his stomach and laughing non-stop. Tania is always a caring friend, she does not care about her image getting worse, every time Tom is sad, she always uses this way to comfort and make fun of Tom. And it works every time. That is the first step.
“Stop, Tania, stop. You crack me up!!!” Tom tries to stop laugh, “And… what makes you think this time is worst like that?”
“The eyes, my friend. You can try to look sad, try to look happy, but your eyes always tell me the truth. That’s the reason I make friends with you in the first place. Because there is no way a ‘heartless demon’ can have eyes like that. Your three eyes, especially this one,…” Tania pointed to her forehead, “are very honest. Outsiders might think every time you broke up, you sad the same way. But those eyes tell me when you really sad, or just annoyed.”
“This is the reason why sometimes I said I just got dumped, but you still kick me out?”
“Yes. Because your eyes said you just a little bit annoyed, so I just kick you out. No one can stand after see their friends broke up like… 4 or 5 times in one month, you know? It’s very annoying. I am your friend, not your mama, remember that.”
“I guess. But you are the only one left I can talk, literally. I have few friends, but only two of them are my BF. One is very busy with her life, I can’t just chat with her hours about my relationship like that…”
“And you think I can?”
“Tania, that’s Star. She’s my ex. Even now we are friends, but I still can’t talk with her about that stuff.”
“Good point. And what about another one? If I remember correctly, that’s a he, right? What his name again? Ma… Marcus…? No.. no… co… MARCO! Right, Marco. Why wouldn't you told to him? He is, well, a guy. Sure, he has a feeling for your Starship, but you said you are cool with that, and this thing is 5 years so far, and you two still be friends. Why not?” And there we go, step 2: Make Tom said the problem. Make he feels comfortable, then draw a way so he could go with the flow, says the problem so Tania can help him. Usually, this step took quite a lot of time, since Tom is just want drinking and whining, avoiding the problem, having to lure him to say it takes half a day. But this time, Tania did not expect Tom to speak from the beginning.
“The truth is…” Tom stopped talking. He closed his eyes, rubbed his face, took a deep breath, and sighed, seemingly pondering something extremely difficult to say. “The truth is… I'm here today has something to do with him.”
“Shit!” This is what Tania doesn't want to hear the most. “This is worse than I thought!” She thinks. In fact, Tania didn't really understand Tom's romantic relationships before the two knew each other. Tom didn't tell, and neither did Tania because she knew it was a sensitive issue. That great battle took many people away, some lost their loved ones, some lost their possessions, Tania herself struggled hard to rebuild her Lily Dog bar. As for Tom, he didn't tell much about it, but Tania sensed that he seemed to have lost himself in the great battle. He still looks normal, but Tom's change in such a short time cannot be due to the fact that he is trying to be an intern king, only love. From a kid who was grumpy all day with everything (despite trying to be normal), he turned into a calm gentleman, only talk to solve the problem. Maybe for Tania, Tom has always kept the attitude as when he first befriended her, warm and cheerful, but with strangers, his attitude and way of talking are different. He is calm and aloof when talking to them, even talk to them in a voice has a semi-sarcastic style imbued with nobility to normal people, like in the movie. “This love triangle thing is really troublesome!!” Look what it did to Tom, made he looks miserably.
Miss Star Butterfly is a trouble-maker. But this Marco boy is also one, too. Tania only knows him through Tom’s story. She gave a good impression with him at first. To Tom, he is a dear friend, the one who always helps him to keep calm, when he needs and has the same hobby with him. Even when he was dating Janna, the conversation between Tom and Tania always have Marco in it, more or less. If it wasn't for Tom dating only girls, Tania thought he had something with Marco. But then, Tom starts to open with her, starts to talk about his relationship with those two. It’s broke his heart to realize that he and Star can’t belong to each other anymore, and the fact that she and his best friend have “a thing”. He chooses to broke-up with her, told them he is cool with this, hopes them would go on with each other. Poor little one still tries to smile with those two. “I swear to God, I gonna kill that damn brat right…”
“Four days ago, me and he met. We drank and talked about the old days. I don’t know how, but we end up have sex.” Tom confessed.
The silence is in the air.
“Have sex… with who?” Take long enough for Tania to dare ask him again.
“With Marco.” He answered softly.
“Ho… ho… How?? How??” Tania can’t believe what she just hears.
“I don’t know. We were drunk, and… and… Love Sentence! Tania, it’s Love Sentence! Everything was dizzy. I'm pretty sure he took the initiative first, but it was me who did the last step. I mean, how could I not? He looked cute at that time. And honestly, I've wanted to do that to him for a long time...” Tom kept on babbling and dreaming about that night, unaware that Tania was having a huge shock at his side. “This can be true!” Tania denied, “If it’s true, then…” the whole thing about love triangle that she knew, the whole time, will completely different. She quickly squeezed his shoulders, turned him back to her, asking slowly: “Tom, dear! So, what are you saying, is you have feelings for him? For… that Marco boy?”
Tom did not answer immediately but looked directly at Tania. In his eyes filled with many things, there is heartache, there is love, there are concerns, feeling like about to spill out of the eyes.
"You DO have feelings for that boy." Tania did not need Tom to speak, his eyes answered for him. She let go of his shoulders, immersing herself in her thoughts. She knew Tom had suffered because of that relationship, she also blamed the other two for making Tom change himself so much like that. But what Tania can’t think to, even in her wildest dreams, Tom is indeed being hurt by that love, but not because the person he loves cheats on him with his best friend, it rather because he has feelings for that friend. But, for how long? Since when did he have that kind of feeling? Is it ever since that great battle? Or, worse, even earlier? She didn’t dare to think. How did her friend, after all, endure himself so he could suppress his emotions all those years? “Oh, Tom…” There are some tears in her eyes, she feels sorry for Tom. “And… and then what? What did he say? Is he said he hated you or something?”
“No. He doesn’t say anything. The next morning, we woke up. Then he ran away. I haven't said a word to him yet.”
“Wha… So you mean, you haven't spoken to Marco, like at all, since that night? Even just texting?” Oh no, he better be NOT.
“Yes… because I’m…”
“And… and you said you ARE the one who done it, right?”
“Yeah… Yes?”
“…”
“…”
The silence is in the air. Again.
“OMG! OMG! OMG! I make friends with a dumbass demon. OMG! OMG! OMG!” Tania muttering. “Tom, do you realize the seriousness of this?” She turned to stare at the demon. Tom became extremely confused by his friend's fast-changing attitude.
“Uhm… Tania? I… I do realize. So I must talk to you about this, then find out how to solve this problem…”
“No, you DON’T. Because if you do, you wouldn't wait until 4 days, then come to my place to ask me how to solve this problem. Tom, I know you have suffered greatly from this love, you are also very confused, but try to stand under that boy's perspective. Suddenly his best friend done that thing with him, and then the subject went silent without any explanation or inquiry for 4 days. If it were you, do you suffer?” Tania stopped, she should not go too deep. Saying more will only make things confusing. Tom endured that was enough. She patted his shoulder, then went out to settle the bar, giving him space to think for himself.
Tom was left alone. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his mind to think. None of this would have happened if that damn instinct didn't inspire him. But Tom knows, he can't blame all on instinct. Marco Diaz, that name also made him sleepless all day and night. From the beginning because of jealousy with Marco when he was a close friend of Star, until he knows that for the first time, he had made a close friend besides Star. He treasured this friendship very much because not everyone could stand his normal temperament. Tom treasured it so much that he didn't want to break it. At one point, he almost lost this friendship. Luckily, Tom tried to calm down, so nothing happens. But now that he thinks about it, if at that time, he passed that point, maybe everything will be better.
Tom took another deep breath, took up his courage, and opened the compact. Before going to see Marco, he needed to talk to this person first.
___________Marco’s POV___________
Marco's whole body was exhausted after that night, his head was hot, stomach still felt yoke and burning hot don’t know why, but these injuries are nothing compared to Marco's feeling right now.
“Tom, what is he doing right now? Why doesn't he call me? Is it ... he hated me because I had proactively kissed him first?” Marco kept muttering like that. That morning, he was embarrassed so he runaways, but he still wanted to see Tom again. He had hoped Tom would come to see him, scold him, or take pity on him, whatever. But he didn’t come. Marco felt extremely uncomfortable, wanted to cry but couldn’t because doing so only made his parents more worried. He had been lying in bed for 4 days, taking the excuse that he had a cold, taking some medicine, and then resting was fine. The discomfort in his abdomen became increasingly uncomfortable. The lower was getting hotter and burning, and sometimes the pain was throbbing so he had to bend over to hug his stomach. This discomfort continues even in dreams.
In the dream, he was swimming in a black sea without a shore. Above the black border is a blood-red moon, as red as the Blood Moon night that Tom once determined to invite Star to attend. Blood moonlight shone on the surface of the dark, turn one spot in the black sea into dark red. Marco hurriedly swam there, feeling that if he could swim there, he would be safe. But every time, every time he swam near that red spot, there was a hand holding him back. He tried to pull away, but that hand clung too tightly. When that thing saw him still trying to swim to the blood moon, it got angry, decided to drag him down. Marco could not breathe, that thing still pulled him further and further away from the red light, down to the bottom of the black sea. He tried to turn to look, but could only see three bright lights gleaming on the black seafloor. Then, he woke up.
He wanted to sleep, but if he slept he would have to go through that dream again. But if he didn't sleep, his body would collapse. Marco closed his eyes again, really determined, certain this time, he would win that light, to swim to the red light.
___________The Present___________
Tom crouched in the Star's bedroom at Butterfly Castle. Star is pacing in front of him. Her face was completely distorted, hard to describe the feelings of Star right now. Several times she turned to look at Tom, frowned, then turned away, muttering to herself, pacing the room.
“No! No! No! Tom, why? Why is this thing happen??” Eventually, Star stopped pacing, turning to ask Tom. “It’s only 4 days, Tom. 4 DAYS. Then you just called me, saying, ‘Oh hey, Star! I accidentally have sex with Marco on the evening of your birthday party and I have run away for like 4 days. What should I do now?’ WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? What should I say, you tell me?”
"Star. I don't need you to do much for me. It's just ... you heard, I haven't seen Marco for almost a week. And to be honest, I'm more scared now. Listen, you're the best friend of ours. As it turned out like this, having a friend like you with me was better than I go alone to see Marco. And to be honest, I didn't dare to imagine Marco's angry form. Maybe he's cursed and never wish to see me ever again. ”
“He better be! You deserve it! ” Star angry said.
“Star, I know it. I should have died hundreds of times. However, Starship ... " Tom stood up, holding Star's hand earnestly," ... Please, just this once. The truth is, I have feelings for Marco too.”
“You… do?”
“I ... I ... Do you still remember the day I said I wanna break-up with you? The truth is ... I discovered that I liked Marco before that, liked… a lot. But I know that you and Marco had something at the time, I couldn't say it, or else I would not only hurt you two but also lose both my best friends. ”
“Oh… Tom…”
“So at that time, I made the best choice is to break up with you and encourage him to be with you. But Starship, I didn't expect him to choose not to come with you. He even decided to return to Earth, finish his studies, and live a normal life. For years, I tried not to say anything. I'm like a madman, trying to find a relationship like our old relationship, hoping that thanks to it, I could forget about Marco, about my love for him. But in the end, the new left faster than the previous one. And during those years, Marco was always single. I thought I had a chance. Just unexpectedly, things were happening so quickly... So fast, I didn't know how to handle them."
"Tom ..." Star softened, hugging his friend tightly. She was too heartless, didn’t realize Tom's feelings were so confused. Five years, neither long nor short, but enough to torment a person into crazy. She still knew that Tom's relationships were usually not last long, and she used to worry about him, but come to think about that… “Tom, about your feeling with Marco, is Janna know any about that? Is that the reason you two broke up?” Every time Star have a chat with her girls, and if she told about Tom’s relationship lately, Janna just laughs and telling that he deserved that, nothing to worried. At first, Star thought Janna was still angry with him because of the breakup thing, but after that, Janna still met Tom when the whole meeting and didn’t show any discomfort. That always confuses Star.
“I… I don’t know… Everything between me and Janna is fine, can say it’s perfect. The two of us enjoy doing weird things to her liking. To be honest, she’s the only one that made me think, maybe I can move on with, and someday, I can over Marco. I even prepared everything, told my parents, introduce her to those two. Everything was so smooth, but suddenly one day, she called me out to talk, then said nothing, just punched me in the eye… Then… after that… she said she wants to break-up… She doesn’t even answer my phone. If… if it’s true, that she knows about my feeling for Marco…” Tom held his head, not sure what to say. “Oh my god, I’m such a jerk!”
“Tom! We can talk about Janna later. I know she, if she can still show up at our group meetings without complaining, it means she wasn’t too angry with you. You still can find and apologize to her later. Now, MARCO!”
Encouraged by the Star, Tom felt that he was calm. He thanked Star, saying, “Thank you, Starship. You really are the best friend a demon king can ask for. Can this good friend follow me now to Marco's house to talk with him? ”
She smiled at him.
___________About 2 hours later___________
“ARGHHH! Can you just hurry up? How the hell does your dressing take two hours to complete?”
“Relax, Star! Bathing, choosing clothes, beautifying yourself need time. Not to mention I'm about to talk to Marco. I want to be beautiful in front of him.” As he said that, Tom remodeled his tie, though it looked perfect.
“Ohmygod! Don’t tell me, that EVERY TIME our group meeting, you always like this. No wonder you always look so… fancy like that. Turn out you want to flirt Marco ~~” Star pulled Tom while giggling teasing him.
“Star!!!!” Although it is true, but being so explicitly made Tom blush. His cheek turns to purple quickly.
Star still giggled, pulled Tom to Marco's door, and quickly rang the bell. She turned, instructed him. "Listen, maybe Rafael or Angie will open the door, just let me talk to them. While I was talking to them, you said you had something to tell Marco and…."
“Creak.”
The door opened, but behind it wasn't Rafael or Angie, but Marco. Neither Star nor Tom had expected it, since the one who opened the door was still one of the Diaz couples, they love to have someone visit them. Marco looked extremely tired, his red eyes looked like sleeplessness, even the puffiness became black. He was very pale and lethargic, but his hair was still neat, and in his arms, Marco was holding a cup of coffee, Star guessed that he had just washed his face and was drinking coffee to regain consciousness. Marco pulled back his bathrobe so he wouldn't get cold, intentionally not paying attention to Tom who was standing next to him, only smiling at Star: "Star! What are you doing here?"
“Oh, hi Marco! Uhmm… WE are here to talk. Can we… come in?” Star tried to smile brightly.
Marco glanced coldly at Tom. His brown eyes once full of affection are now as cold as ice. It hurts Tom's heart, he feels more guilty for ignoring him for 4 days.
“Sure, why not? Come on in, it’s cold out there.” Marco stepped aside, inviting the two to go inside. Both of them noticed Marco's cold attitude, but still went inside the house. The heat transfer between cold and hot made them shudder.
“Marco! Who is that?” It’s Rafael, resounded from the kitchen.
“It’s Star! She has something to tell you and mom!”
“Is she? Then tell her to sit down and wait a minute. We are in the middle of something!”
Both Tom and Star were amazed at Marco's attitude. Marco is a lousy liar, if not basically he can't lie. But just now, Marco lied extremely smoothly, even choosing an extremely natural reason without any loopholes. The two were not yet over surprised, Marco returned, coolly speaking. “Star, you're here waiting for my parents to come out and talk. And Tom, I need to talk to you.” Then he turned upstairs, seemingly unwilling to hear any more words
“Okay, we know for sure that Marco is extremely angry at you now. You go up there, trying to console him. Acting very sorry for the ‘incident”, trying to appease as much as possible. If he takes the bait, you go ahead. If he gets really angry, remember to call me, I'll go up there.”
Tom nodded, then gathered his courage, went upstairs. Tom has never felt so scared like now, as if he's now fighting thousands of monsters, not going up and talking to Marco. He tried to reassure himself, hypnotizing himself that he was just going to talk. Ah, wish it was just a simple talk. This conversation means a lot to him. It was not just his own show of affection for Marco over five years, but also its result. If Marco agrees, then he and Marco can finally be together. But if not, then he feared that even friendship would be gone. Who would accept that his best friend has feelings for him, and then willfully did such a thing like that to him?
Tom took a deep breath, then turned the door handle. He saw Marco standing with his back to him, his face turning to the window. He felt Marco was skinny and gloomy than before. He sighed, closed the door, and said his line: "Marco..." But before he could say anything, Marco quickly turned around and walked in front of Tom. And then, he leaned up, wrapped his arms around the back of Tom's head, and kissed him.
Tom was very surprised. He could not guess this was coming. Marco is proactively kissing him. His full lips are plastered on Tom's lips, soft, cool, and extremely real. Tom was overwhelmed, but he quickly regained consciousness, his hands quickly hugging Marco’s waist, picking him up to press the kiss deeper. Tom could smell the scent of his shampoo and shower gel, and felt the bitter coffee he just drank as they both kissed. It all made Tom infatuated. He leaned against the wall completely, one hand lifted Marco's butt, one hand pulled his leg around Tom’s waist, then kissed him passionately.
“Tom, do you love me?” Marco stopped the kiss, but his forehead rested on Tom's, their lips only a few centimeters apart. Tom looked into his eyes. It was not as cold as it used to be, it was glittering with emotion, reflecting Tom's image in it. Tom felt revived, the whole body energized. He hurriedly kissed small kiss on Marco’s face and lips, answering: "Yes, Marco. I love you. Love you very much. Love you till the day I die."
“Is that so? So if I want anything, you can give it, right?”
“Yes, anything, even my heart.” Tom hurriedly answered. Marco giggled, rubbing his ear. "You goofy, I don't need your heart." He gently kisses back, “I just need you to love me, with all your souls!”
“Yes, I will.” Tom leaned over, kissing Marco once more time.
___________Down stair___________
Star sat opposite the Diaz couple, holding the teacup they were invited to and extremely confused. If Marco was said to be a lousy liar, then Star lied worse, the truth proved that. Star tried to smile, asking some silly questions to the couple. She was hoping Tom would comfort Marco soon to get herself out of this situation, or she was afraid she might flush it out. But before she could tell the truth as she feared, Rafael changed the subject. He looked confused and worried when asked Star. “Star, on your birthday night, did something happen to Marco?”
“Wh… What~~? No… No! Nothing happens! Everyone is fine. No one gets trouble or something… hahahaa…Ha!” Star negated in a soaring high voice. “Oh shit! Oh shit! Help! Tom, hurry up!!!” She tried to keep calm but her forehead was still sweating, even a sip of tea she just drinks couldn’t make her throat less dry.
“Is that so?” Rafael sighed. He looked hesitant, even giving Angie a look when he saw her nod, he turned to Star and continued. “Star, we really don't want to say this, for fear you will be worried. But before we start, we just want to say that everything is okay, everything is under control. No need to be overly worried.”
“Yes?” Star realized the strangeness of the two.
“It’s about Marco. He has severe depression.”
“Severe… depression?”
“Simply put, it is a disease caused by long-term stress. It causes patients to have trouble sleeping, tired, irritable, and especially thinking about committing suicide.” Rafael explained. “At first, the two of us just thought that Marco was not used to normal life, maybe it would be fine later. But he is getting more and more strange. He often has insomnia, cries often, and the teacher at school often complains about his distracted attitude. And then one morning, Angie found him holding a razor blade in front of the mirror, right at his neck as if about to cut down. Although Angie had stopped Marco at that moment, and he didn't seem to recognize or remember that suicide, but we were forced to take him to a psychiatrist.”
"The doctor concluded he had severe depression." Angie burst into tears, trying to hold back her tears but unable to. “At that time, we did not know what to do. Oh, our mijo! Marco promised us he would try to get through, telling us not to tell this to anyone else. But how can it be overcome so easily? He had been miserable for a long time, only when he went to meet his friends, he seems to have returned to normal. It took more than two years for Marco to no longer have the thought of committing suicide. But the depression is still there. We were so afraid that one day, he couldn’t think and then commit suicide like that morning.”
“Two years? That… the time when Tom and Janna...?”
“For that reason, we forced him to stay with us, even though he went to college now. Maybe with his friends, he said that he wanted to save up for student’s loan, but actually it was because of his depression that we couldn't stop watching him.”
“Lately he's been better than before. We were extremely excited, thinking that he might have returned to being old Marco. But, four days ago, after your birthday party, it became strange again. Even though he told me he only had a cold, he tried not to cry and sleep well, but why didn't we realize that.”
“That why, we want to ask you, do you know what happened that night?”
Being looked at by both Diaz and the couple, Star felt like a criminal being questioned. She couldn't keep her word, sorry Tom, but she had to say it.“Uhm… Actually… That night…”
“STAR!” Glossaryck from nowhere naturally appeared right next to Star, screaming her name.
“AHHHHHHHH! Cheese and crackers! Glossaryck?! What are you doing here?” Star feels confusing. A few days ago, Glossaryck suddenly said he has something important to deal with, then disappeared from that moment. But now, he suddenly appeared here.
“No time to talk! Where is Tom? We need to save him. NOW!”
“Tom? What are you talking about? He is fine. He with Marco now. The two of them were talking about their problems…” Star quickly turned to the Diaz “… at the previous four days. But it’s like 10 minutes has passed, and there was no sound of fight or argument, so I think we're okay, it's all right. You two can be chill. Marco will soon…”
“No, Star! Marco IS the problem.” Glossaryck protested.
“What are you…”
BOOMM!!!
A loud bang, coming from upstairs. The four of them stopped talking and quickly ran upstairs. Star went upstairs first, and quickly ran to Marco's room, she realized that loud noise came from the direction of his room. But when she got to the door, she felt something amiss. The door of Marco's room was still closed, but there were cold, chilling breezes coming through the door, along with a frightening green light. Star recognized that light.
“Star, you better be prepare beforehand.” Glossaryck flew close, reminding Star. Star took a deep breath, then turned the door handle.
Behind the door was a scene, that perhaps until the end of her life, Star can not forget. Tom was lying near the door, unmoving, his pale lilac skin even paler, almost becoming white, as if he were dead. The room was disturbed by a hurricane, everything was lifted by the wind, scattered in the air. The roof has a very big hole, snow poured everywhere. Looking up, Star sees something even more terrifying. It was Marco, float in midair. But that was not normal Marco, it was a monster with Marco's face. His eyes are completely black, from the pupil to the sclera. Marco grew a small horn on the right, which resembled Tom's. There was a crescent moon shaped magic mark on his cheek, but it was not like what she had ever seen. Marco's magic mark is shown in bright red, but now it shows in the formidable green of dark magic.
“Mar…Marco?!” She couldn't believe it was her friend.
“Oh, princess Butterfly! We meet again.” "Marco" smirked, responding softly.
“Be careful, Star. He was no longer Marco.” Glossaryck appears, alerting Star. He also quickly closed the door to prevent Rafael and his wife. Can't let them see this situation. “So I guess you were the cause of the disturbance in the Realm of Magic, right?”
“The Realm of Magic has its own consciousness, Glossaryck. You can't blame us because it's been unstable lately. It simply... is welcoming a new member of it. A Prince! Prince of Darkness!”
“Marco” laughed maniacally. And, he began to change again. Two pairs of huge wings sprouted from his back. It has color of purple and green, with skull and hypnotic patterns on it. He also grows 4 more arms. He looked exactly like one of the Butterfly members when they transformed. “Marco” tried flapping the butterfly's wings and pleased to see it flap naturally.
“You… Who are you? Why did you take Marco? Give him back to me!”
“Ouch! It’s hurt, princess. After all, you did KILL us! Remember?”
As if something awakened, Star was scared, unable to believe in the truth. “You… you… Toffee?!” It can’t be! It can’t be! Toffee is dead!
“Close enough! Actually, it takes more than just one spirit to get this form, you know. But luckily, thank to you, this boy had absorbed enough evil spirits. But still, it takes a little more energy to convert. And then, you brought that guy to me, just in time.” He pointed to Tom, who was lying motionless on the ground, laughing. “Oh, men! I have nothing to say. You are just like my guardian angel. Tricking him is really too easy, it was like taking candy from a child's hands. All that because he loves 'me'! Hahahahahaha….!”
Star felt unprecedented despair and regret. If that's what he said, was that her fault, so Marco turned into that? And also because of that, so Tom got involved? Did she harm her loved ones?
“No! Give him back to me!” Star screamed, transformed, and took the magic wand, rushing towards “Marco”. But before she could get close, she was repelled by a wave of dark magic, shot back.
“Oh, Princess Butterfly. Although we would love to stay here to have a little chat with you, but unfortunately, we have to go. See you soon!” Marco smiled tenderly, then created a portal. Star has never seen such a gate. It was similar to the gate she went to the Realm of Magic, but instead of the inherent color, it was black and green. “Oh, one more thing. Send Tom a kiss for me. He really loves me with ALL his souls. Well, half of it is enough. Hahahahaha… Bye~~!” Marco chuckled, then disappeared behind the portal.
As soon as Marco disappeared, the whirlwind in the air gradually dissipated, the furniture gradually lowered, scattered everywhere. Star sat motionless on the ground, unable to believe what he had just heard or seen. She just sat there, staring into the air, enduring every wave of snow and wind blowing in her face. Outside, Rafael and Angie, despite being prevented by Glossaryck's magic to prevent them from entering or hearing anything, but they were too nervous, standing outside and try to knock the door.
Glossaryck sighed. He removed the magic from the door, letting them enter. Upon entering the room, both of them were rendered speechless by the scenery. But before they can be saying anything, Glossaryck took the initiative to say it first. “Star, we need to go now. Bring Tom and the Diaz family back to Mewni. I'm afraid this is not gonna end well.”

First Meeting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Glancing at her phone one last time Melinda gave up. She was tired. Zeke was not helping himself with how her family viewed him. The more she tried to defend him the more he made it difficult. He had his good points, but his bad points were overshadowing his good. Bad enough he had Rezar come out of character and throw him after she told him to behave and asked Rezar to be nice.
She was grateful her sisters and friends were trying to be nice though she had a feeling they wanted to smack Zeke. She does not know why she is with Zeke. Yes, she does. Loneliness makes you make decisions and fall for people you usually would not go for. Like any other day she texted Zeke first when she had woken up. No response. Typical.
She sent her sisters and friends texts before preparing for her day. Her brothers had invited her to go with them to the carnival and they weren’t taking no for an answer. She was grateful for them being so protective of her although she didn’t need them protecting her. She decided to shoot her “boyfriend” another text before she left for the carnival. Waiting a few minutes to see if she would get a response back and when she didn’t, she shrugged.
It was starting to piss her off how he was being a jackass. That was okay because when she starts dishing it back, she didn’t want to hear a damn thing. Yes, she would because Mama and Nana Jones would be disappointed in her and tell her let God handle him. Before she met her family at the carnival she went to the home where Nana Jones was playing bingo at to check on her.
The others probably already checked on her but that wasn’t going to stop her. When she got there, she greeted the workers and went into the hall where Nana Jones was playing bingo. She smiled seeing the older woman sitting with her friends waiting for numbers to be called out. Walking towards her table she hugged the woman and laughed hearing her fuss at her.
“What are you doing here, honey?”
“I came to check on you. You don’t have nothing on your bingo board. Losing?”
“No, I am not losing. These heffa’s just cheating.”
“Ain’t nobody cheating. You just have a horrible board, Hattie.”
One of Nana Jones friends playfully retorted back. Melinda laughed hearing how they went back and forth with each other. She watched them for a few more minutes before kissing Nana Jones goodbye. Hearing her phone chime off she knew it was one of her sisters texting her to see where she was at. She responded to them and headed to the carnival.
When she got there, she seen her family waiting for her. Tyrell, Ray, and Rezar greeted her with big hugs and she greeted them with thumps to the heads. All three mumbled and walked ahead of the women with the children. They were highly offended she thumped them, and they were being nice.
Walking around the crowded carnival they talked and laughed, for the first time Melinda didn’t have Zeke on her mind. Matter of fact she was smiling and laughing more. After an hour of walking around with her sisters she decided to find an empty bench to sit down. Florida heat was no joke and it was making her tired.
After she found an empty bench, she sat down watching her family. Hearing her phone go off she decided to ignore it and continue to enjoy her family. He was not going to ruin her mood. A few minutes into watching them a strange man sat next to her wiping his forehead with his towel.
“I’m sorry, I just needed to sit.”
“It’s okay, there are no names on the bench. Your shoes are untied as well.”
The man smiled and bent down to tie both his sneakers. Sitting up he turned his hat backwards adjusting his shades on his face. They sat in a comfortable silence watching everybody enjoy themselves. A few minutes in the man seen one of the food lines empty and decided to stand up.
“Want to go with me to get some food?”
Melinda smiled and shook her head looking at him and he gave her a playful pout.
“You let me sit next to you and even looked out for me telling me my shoes was untied. I could’ve tripped. It’ll be my treat.”
“What line we going to stand on? Because all these damn lines be long as hell and I don’t have patience.”
Laughing the man helped Melinda stand up taking her to the food truck that didn’t have a long line. Monique, Tasha, and Jackie seen them and sat down to watch. They all took pictures of seeing Melinda smiling standing next to the man. Buying their food, he took them back to the bench they were sitting at to eat their food and talk.
“May, I have your name?”
“Melinda. Yours?”
“Beautiful name for a beautiful woman. My name is Amell.”
A faint blush made its way to Melinda’s face and she had to clear her throat.
“That’s unique a name. I never heard that name before. That’s a nice name for a nice guy.”
“Thank you. Who are you here with?”
“My family. You?”
“By myself. Is your family the three women giggling and taking pictures of us?”
Melinda turned to see Monique, Tasha, and Jackie with their phones taking pictures of them. The three women waved at her making Melinda roll her eyes hard turning back to her food. Amell laughed seeing her reaction which made Melinda laugh.
“They’re funny.”
“They’re annoying but I love them. It’s more of them though.”
They continued to talk and eat Melinda enjoying Amell’s company. Her phone went off a few times while she was talking to him and she ignored it.
“I don’t think you should be ignoring your phone could be important. I know if you were my woman, I wouldn’t want you ignoring me.”
“Trust me, it’s not important that’s why I didn’t answer.”
Amell nodded putting more food into his mouth. Melinda and Amell continued to talk and eat their food while Mo, Tasha, and Jackie continued to watch them. Ray, Rezar, and Ty came by them watching Melinda and Amell. The three of them looked at each other then their women smiling.
“Want me to win you something?”
Amell asked as they threw their empty trays out.
“No, that’s okay. You did enough, thank you. My family is ready to go. It was nice meeting you.”
“Oh okay. Well may I at least have your number?’
“Why would I do that?”
“You’re right. We will see each other again and I’ll get your number then. Have a nice day Melinda.”
Amell walked off and Melinda took a deep breath walking over to her family. Melinda held her hand up keeping them from asking any questions. While everybody walked away Mo and Tasha walked through the carnival to find Amell. When they did, they gave them Mel’s number and they gave them their number just in case Mel did not answer him and he wanted to get in contact with her. He laughed putting their numbers in his phone and told them to have a good day. Melinda had butterflies in her stomach the whole time and nobody made her feel like that.
AN: FLUFF. SUCKS. Sorry.
