Everybody wants to rule the world. In fic, Loki can always be counted on to help Steve and Bucky get together or stay together. Below are my Top 5 Favorite stories:

“Space Oddity” (M, 147k) by crinklefries, cyclamental art (cyclamental), nalonzoo

After the world ends, things happen to Bucky in this specific order: he helps defeat Thanos, he rejects Steve’s attempt to address Feelings, he watches Steve volunteer to put the Infinity Stones back in time, he waits for Steve to come back, he is sad when Steve does not come back, he realizes that everyone thinks Steve disappeared in 2012 (???), he gets taken to space by Carol Danvers (!!!), he meets up with a depressed literal alien Norse God, he and the depressed literal alien Norse God travel through space, he and the depressed literal alien Norse God hit a wormhole and fall into the--Multiverse.

What the fuck.

This is the story of how Bucky and Thor pick up the pieces of their lives, find their own worth, find their own person, and find their way out of a multiverse of 100 realities stitched together with 100 tropes. There’s love, there’s friendship, there’s an extreme amount of Tesseract fuckery, but most importantly there are sexy vampires. Bon Appetit.

+ Endgame Fix-It. Loki and Steve shatter the tesseract in 2012; Bucky and Thor go on a multiverse road trip to find them. Found family, self-acceptance, and the happiest ending.

Steve knows he shouldn't try to change anything while returning the Stones, but he can't help himself. A certain God of Chaos is willing to help.

Loki's in for a wild ride.

+ Endgame Fix-It. Steve and Bucky return the stones together. Along the way, they each end up enlisting Loki to help their 2012 versions

“Not Another Alien Green Card Marriage” (T, 14k) by crinklefries

“Dearly beloved,” the tired-looking court magistrate said. “We are gathered here today to join this man and this, uh, Norse God in holy...matrimony.” * The bifrost is broken and Thor is stranded on Earth, working for SHIELD without any authorized documents. Loki gets way too drunk and regrettably horny one night and offers to marry the big, dumb superhero for a green card.

This turns out to be a mistake, because even though Thor is smoking hot, the Avengers keep breaking Manhattan, Loki’s apartment suffers an unfortunate setback, and the U.S. government requires way too much paperwork. Also, Loki hates his job and his best friend is in love with Captain America.

This would only happen to him. Loki would take a nap, if anyone would goddamn let him. Instead, he gets bangs.

+ Shrunkyclunks. Modern Bucky and Loki run into the Avengers over and over again. Madcap courting ensues

“Bop, Bop, Bop: Bop To The Top” (T, 10k) by attackofthezee (noxlunate)

When Odinson shows up it’s with half the basketball team and a lot of noise that Loki absolutely did not consent to have in his creative space.

His senses are being assaulted.

“This is a sacred space,” He says and he can practically feel Bucky rolling his eyes behind him, but there are points to be made and Bucky’s judgement is not welcome here.

“It’s an auditorium,” Thor says like he doesn’t comprehend Loki’s point, which is fair, because he is, after all, very very dumb. All those hits to the head doing jock things like football and smashing beer cans against his skull really can’t be helping.

Aka a vaguely a High School Musical AU

+ Modern AU. Blonde jocks have been assigned to help with the spring play and theater kid Loki despairs. Bucky however, is delighted, and gets a date to the prom.

"Big in Japan” (T, 6k) by gunboots

Steve hesitantly reaches out and takes the object in Tony’s arms to survey it. 'It' being a pillow upon which was an almost frighteningly accurate illustration of Loki, their on-and-off again nemesis. "I don't--how did you even get this? Who would MAKE this?"

Clearly Steve doesn't find the attention-to-detail on Loki's costume as hilarious as Tony does, which whatever. Like he said. Killjoy.

A.K.A The one time Tony buys Thor the world's worst souvenir and it somehow worked out in the end anyway.

+ Post WS. Dakimakura! Thor starts carrying around a body pillow with fanart printed on it. Loki founds out, and Bucky keeps the Steve pillows

I’m reading a book about eloquence and there’s this chapter on transferred epithets where the author shares PG Wodehouse: “His eyes widened and an astonished piece of toast fell from his grasp.” Of course I thought of your laughing blueberries and skeptical mirrors and ceilings that stare back at you with no helpful input. “The transferred epithet makes the world come alive” - Exactly one of the lovely hallmarks of your writing. The human emotions leak through the universes you build. ❤️

That sounds like absolutely a sentence I’d write! And thank you for thinking of me, and for compliments!!!

I haven’t really read Wodehouse but I want to, now! Anyone who considers the emotions of toast is someone I’d get along with. Any recommendations for places to start, for people who have?

“Give Me Fuel, Give Me Fire” by 221BJen

Not sure if anyone has rec’d this yet from SBB2017—it’s really good! Plotty and action-filled and well-paced Fast and Furious AU. You don’t need to know anything about the movie and the car/racing details are just enough to keep you interested.

It’s well-written with great action scenes and dialogue and emotion. Key highlights: amazing Steve and Sam friendship chemistry, badass Bucky (check out that cool art in Ch1) and his close-knit family of choice (Clint and Natasha AND Wanda and Pietro!! I’m a sucker for Bucky having families of choice it makes me deeply happy), Steve and Bucky’s rocky and steamy and sweet relationship. I also enjoyed their characterization of modern Steve; competent, likable, feels deeply, does nothing in half-measures, a flawed and really decent guy.

Would def recommend if you’re looking for a well-written action-filled and sexy modern AU!

2020 Fic Recs

Okay, I did a fic rec list last year for 2019, and nobody asked for this, but you know what, I’m gonna do another one. Really the only thing I wanna look back on about 2020 is the fic- bc damn there were some good ones!

Same as last year, these are fics that were completed in 2020. (So no in-progress fics here)

So here goes, 20 fic recs for 2020, in no particular order! And full disclosure, these are all totally different ratings/pairings/whatever.

I tried to tag all the authors who had tumblrs, but i probably missed some, and some of them aren’t actually working but hey! the username is there!

He is also warm and friendly and has a talent for matchmaking. Or so he thinks. Actually, he's kind of terrible at it.

Importantly, Steve will definitely never fall in love or marry, himself. He tells everyone this, repeatedly. Well anyway, we'll see about that. )

Steve's mom had left Daelland long before he was born, following her heart to New York, but she'd raised him on stories of its famous Warhorse. Before she died, he'd promised he'd go back and learn the country she'd come from.

That was why he was in Daelland. Not so Daelland's legendary Warhorse could appear in his living room. But planned or not that's what had happened—now Steve had to figure out what to do about it.

After Steve and Bucky rescue their pals from the Raft prison, they decide to dig deeper into Zemo’s involvement in the UN headquarters’ bombing which sends them on a backpacking trip across select European countries. Steve and Bucky believe this is a story about their mission. Scott Lang and Sam Wilson, who join them halfway through, believe it’s a story about their Eurotrip (and they’re probably right). This writer, however, has been waiting to tell you that the fic’s true mission is Steve and Bucky missioning towards missionary.

Follow them on their journey across Europe in tiny cars, packed subway trains and even on skis as they tumble down the Swiss Alps (in a fun way this time!), all the while reigniting untold feelings of the past through inappropriate sexual encounters and terrible communication skills.

A mission on Christmas. Not even on Christmas, technically. A mission after Christmas which means he and Steve and the Howlies will be trekking through the tundra towards possible death on what used to be Bucky’s favorite day of the year. Jesus Christ.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello, everyone- and greetings.

The idea for this Smol Steve Celebration event stemmed from our love of pre-serum steve and the agreement that he should be celebrated in any iteration, no matter the pairing.

However, considering that the majority of the originators behind Smol Steve Celebration (the mods) have since decided to step back from this event (and 2020 being extremely draining), we, the remaining mods, have further discussed the feasibility of moving forward with it. And we have come to a decision.

It is with deep regret that we announce that the Smol Steve Celebration will not take place during the period stated, which is January 15th - February 15th, 2021. As of this moment, we have no plans of resuming this event at a later date. Our twitter and tumblr account will also be deactivated in the near future.

We apologize for any disappointments caused.

Hit Parade - Tramps Like Us (Pt 1 & 2) - fantastic & fascinating especially with regards to the chart stuff and just how many hit songs he wrote for other people. One thing that struck me was I never really thought about how much older Bruce was than the other pop juggernauts of the mid/late ‘80s ‘cause in my brain they’re all just mixed up as the soundtrack of my adolescence. Best quote: “This duality of Springsteen: the celebration and the desolation, his road-tested rave-ups side-by-side with his dustbowl dirges; it's a dichotomy that Bruce never tried to settle in his career."

Murdoch Mysteries - s14, e2-11 - the increasing soap opera levels of drama in this only bring me joy

Legends of Tomorrow - s1, e11-16 - utterly chaotic & I genuinely can’t wait to see what direction it goes in s2

Ted Lasso - s1, e7-10; s2, e2 - finished introducing my friend to s1!

Legends of Tomorrow - s2, e1-3 - glad to see that the entire premise has been slightly sorta revamped but still utterly chaotic and ridiculous

😍 Sour as Vinegar, Sweet As Honey (thiccbuckybarnes, author; Call_Me_Kayyyyy (Cheeky9274), artist) - 46K, shrunkyclunks a/b/o - excellent blend of some of my fave things: older/retired Steve, a/b/o, hurt/comfort, a caretaking Steve Rogers = *chef’s kiss*

🙂👂 Behind These Doors (Radical Proposals #1) (Jude Lucens, author; Callum Hale, narrator) – I really loved all the very good poly relationships and communication necessary to them (and also the frustrating-but-very-human way they STILL sometimes didn’t communicate important things because one person didn’t realize how important it was) – I did also think that R didn’t grovel/apologize quite enough for his fuck up before A forgave him but I think that’s more personal preference.

😐👂 Calling Bullshit (Carl T. Bergstrom (author); Jevin D. West (contributor); Patrick Zeller (narrator)) – lots of good reminders, a lot of common sense stuff that still doesn’t necessarily get applied and some more in-depth explanations. I still don’t know what the fuck p value is. And I disagree that irrelevant data viz for fun (like an Underground map for Middle Earth) are terrible things.

It’s Insanity, but… - Chapter 12: Baking (or Aggressive Niceness Part II) (rosepetals42) - Sterek, 8K - a new episode in this ongoing, wonderful story where Stiles & Scott are platonically co-parenting a ton of werewolf orphans - the main story is where Derek comes into the picture and the author keeps adding wonderful little vignettes of their lives as supernatural suburban dads. This one was an outsider POV with the return of Kim & Nancy the (nice) PTA moms.

imagine being loved by me (spacebuck, author; nalonzoo, art) - shrunkyclunks, 20K - reread of a fave where Bucky posts pics of himself in lingerie on Twitter and Steve becomes a fan. And then more. Featuring sugar daddy!Steve and wonderful art of pretty boys in lingerie.
