Meanwhile, somewhere in Polynesia Uncharted ...
Tumblr media
Peter Potamus will be the first to tell you, from his experiences in the unmapped and unexplored side of Polynesia, just how wonderfully close the relationship between dolphins and the local natives can get. Especially because the bonds are formed in Nature rather than in the sterile and aseptic limits of a dolphinarium, meaning that such can translate into many wonderful adventures and experiences (especially while wearing but themselves while diving) mutually pleasing to both.

Lucky Charms for a Sailor
Luck was something that every Sailor on board needed and held on to in order to bring him home safely. That's why there were so many items that could help. Here is a small list.
Personal items:
What brings you the most luck - when it comes from your loved ones. And then you gladly took a locket with strands of hair and you just didn't have any available then just fingernails leftovers or even teeth. But it was great if you tattooed a rooster and a pig on your feet to prevent you from drowning.
A found coin, not only to bring you luck but also to bring money into your pockets. A loadstone was also good, not only because it was magnetic and was used to charge the compass needles (which later became superfluous due to the further development of the compasses themselves), they were also regarded as magical and thus served as a lucky charm.
The caul, which remained on the child's head at birth, was the ultimate protection against drowning and was therefore highly prized.
Religious objects:
Even though religion was such a thing on board and priests were very much avoided, as they were simply associated with death, many carried a rosary or images of saints.
These were seen as protectors and some people believed they would bring them luck, even without religious belief. Hope with her anchor or an anchor alone was also a symbol of hope and was often carried around.
Parts of animals:
There were animals that you simply didn't want to have near you, but parts of them promised good luck. Like the infamous rabbit's foot, but never the whole rabbit. This was the long-eared beast and was not allowed on board because, according to legend, rabbits once sank a ship because they had nibbled on the rigging and everything else. But a paw was considered a lucky charm.
It was similar with sharks, nobody wanted them near them and so many hung a shark fin on the stern to keep them away. To make sure nothing happened to you if you accidentally went overboard, many wore a shark's tooth around their neck to protect them from attack. A custom that originated in the Caribbean and Polynesia, as the people there wore shark teeth as a symbol of masculinity, strength and protection from the gods. Europeans wore them to bring good luck and protection.
In one case, they preferred to have the whole animal with them and that was a black cat. These sweet velvet paws were reviled on land as servants of the devil, but on board a ship they were an absolute lucky charm. Not only did they catch rats and mice, but they were also said to be able to tell the weather, they were also a popular mascot that had to be looked after and if one behaved well with them one was also rewarded with cuddles if one was lucky.
People:
Children born on board were considered lucky charms for the whole crew and the ship, and if you didn't have one, the comrade with the gold earring was a popular hammock neighbor and messmate. Because his proximity alone was enough to protect you from disaster.
A naked woman at the bow was also a good idea to ward off disaster. But please don't run off now and undress the captain's or lieutenant's wife and put her up front. That would only cause unnecessary annoyance - from her and her husband. Leave that to the Figurehead, because she was enough to calm the sea.
Protection for the ship itself:
Well, not only the crew needed a bit of luck, but also the wooden lady, so they liked to nail an upturned, worn horseshoe to the mast to catch the luck and keep it inside. Otherwise, the coins that were worked in under the mast were also regarded as lucky charms and, according to my theory, also as payment for the ferryman.
What was also good was if you painted a few eyes in a small area, usually near the bow. They were supposed to foresee dangers and conjure up good fortune, just as they had once done in ancient times, where they were painted on the bow as forerunners of the Figurehead.
Hexmarks (engraved or painted circles) were also considered lucky charms and protection against dark forces, who knew where the next witch was up to mischief and therefore had to protect themselves.

Mother Hubbard dress
Tumblr media
A long, wide, loose-fitting gown with long sleeves and a high neck. It is intended to cover as much skin as possible. It was devised by Victorian western societies to do housework in. It is mostly known today for its later introduction by Christian missionaries in Polynesia to “civilize” those whom they considered half-naked savages. Although this Victorian garment has disappeared in most of the world, it is worn by Pacific women, who have altered it into a brighter and cooler garment, using cotton fabric, often printed in brightly colored floral patterns. It is today seen as smart or formal attire and is often worn to church.

Island Girl
Hendery Edition to Love Talk Series
Tumblr media
Part of The Love Talk Series; this is Pt. 6
It’s finally here, one more part to go 😭
Masterlist Here; ❤️
Warnings: Public Sex, Oral (Male and Female receiving), Praise, Semi Lingerie Kink, Swearing, Unprotected Sex (Pulling Out), Semi mention of a nude
Character Description; Polynesian Pacific Islander Girl from French Polynesia 🇵🇫
Total Disclaimer: Character’s first languages are Tahitian and French, she also speaks English and Korean. I will not use Google Translate because they do not give accurate translations, and I want to respect everyone’s languages without any mistakes. Enjoy the story!
The fact that you making out with your long distance boyfriend wasn’t the crazy part. The crazy part was your family sitting across the restaurant eating their dessert while you were making out in the restaurant bathroom.
“I missed you.” He groans. “Me too.” You reply. You and Hendery met online about two years back. You both chatted each other, sharing very similar interests, you were quite skeptical about being in a long distance relationship, but you kind of liked the feeling of seeing each other once a blue moon, it made your infatuation for each other stronger.
“Mm, we’ll get caught.” You whine. “I don’t care, I want you so bad.” Hendery says before setting you down on the bathroom counter. You and Hendery have never had sex, but you have seen each other naked on numerous occasions due to the casual video sex rendezvous that you have had. It wasn’t until last year when he visited you for a few days and you stayed at your friends apartment with him and gave him oral, that was the farthest you two had gotten.
“Besides, I haven’t repaid from the last time I saw you.”Hendery began to lift up your dress before kissing up your thighs. “You look so good tonight, I can’t believe it’s been a year since we’ve seen each other.” He mentioned. He licked you over your panties, causing you to gasp. He chuckled thinking about how cute you are when you writhe above him. He uses two of his fingers to push your panties to the side, before his lips wrapped around your clit, sucking lightly. “Oh, Hendery!” You whisper. He looks up at you, enjoying the fact that he could finally see you like this. He moved his tongue at a good pace, getting greedy for your juices.
He licked up and down against your wet heat, causing you to move against his face, he didn’t care too much, it actually made him even more aroused, moaning against your pussy, the vibrations made you shiver, chills going down your spine. His free hand reached up to your breast, pulling down the colored fabric, exposing your chest, the cold air from the bathroom made your sensitive nipples harden immediately, while he groped your breasts softly.
Hendery moved his hold on your panties before using his middle finger and inserting it into your pussy. “Ah! That feels good!” You moaned before gripping onto his hair. His tongue continued lapping at your clit as his finger moved in and out of your entrance at a good pace, causing you to mewl loudly. It made him hard hearing your moans and sounds like that, it made him wonder what other sounds he could made you do when he got the chance. You opened your eyes taking in the scene, Hendery between your legs, panties pushed to the side, your red dress nearly off your body, legs upon his shoulders while you were still in your heels, hand in his hair, his on your pussy and tits, and all while in the bathroom of an expensive restaurant, you felt so dirty, but loved it.
He pushed another finger into you, and his mouth sucked on your clit harder, in that moment, you knew you were close, you looked to the side when you heard your phone vibrate next to you, looking over as you moaned, it leaked out of your handbag just enough for you to see who was calling, and it was your mom, she was probably wondering where you were, you told your family that you were going to the bathroom before your meals arrived, but of course, that was fifteen minutes ago.
“Mm, answer it, you don’t want one of your family members to attempt to come in here and see us, do you? I’ll stop if you want me to.” Hendery groaned against you. He was right though, even if the door was locked, it would be highly suspicious to your family that the door would be locked, and would probably find someone to open it, knowing how your family is. You picked up the phone ready to answer it, as Hendery slowed down, you looked down at him not wanting him to stop. “Hendery, don’t you dare stop.” You tell him. “Naughty girl.” He smirked before continuing as you answer the phone.
“H-hello?” You stuttered. “(Y/n), where the hell are you, the food is here, and yours is getting cold! Are you alright?” Your mom spoke into the phone. “Y-yeah, I’m still in the line waiting for a stall, there’s only two in h-here, and I’ve b-been waiting for fi-fifteen minutes.” “Well hurry up so you can eat!” She exclaimed. “Yeah, I am tr-trying, Oh God! T-There’s a st-stall open, I-I’ll be right out, Yes!” You say before hanging up, Hendery smirking because of the outbursts that you made knowing that you were releasing. “Oh Hendery, don’t stop, I’m cumming!” You whine. He rode out your high with his tongue and fingers, while his other hand pinching your nipples, as you came. You finally calmed down, as he slurped up your release slowly, as he removed his fingers from your entrance.
“You taste amazing, (Y/n).” He said licking the rest of your juices from your fingers. You sighed before adjusting yourself, pulling up the top of your dress, and pulling the bottom down, after fixing your panties. Hendery helped you up due to your legs being a little wobbly from the orgasm you just had.
“Thank you baby, but what about you?” You ask looking down at his pants seeing his raging hard on. “I’ll take care of it when I get home, when do you leave Korea?” He asked? “In four days.” “I’ll definitely be seeing you before you leave.” Hendery replied. “Same here.” You say before kissing his lips passionately. “Now go, before your mom tries to come in here.” He chuckled. You walk away from him, slowly taking your hand away from his as you unlocked the door and walked back to your family.
You sat back down looking at the yummy food that was probably lukewarm by now, but you didn’t care. “Next time, if there is a long line, just wait until after you eat your food.” Your dad said coldly. You saw Hendery walk by the table winking at you, making sure only you could see as he walked back to his seat. “Yeah, I’ll make sure I do that next time.” You say before eating your food.
After you and your family left the restaurant, you all went back to the penthouse apartment you guys were staying in for the trip as you all rid of your evening clothes. Your dad was a public speaker from the French Polynesia, he got famous because of a big event that made everyone feel happy and special inside. Giving people tons of advice and encouraging people to follow their dreams, he was pretty good at it, and has done it in ten different countries already, always taking his family with him as well, and because of how well known he is, the owners of the building let you guys stay in the penthouse for the trip. The best part is that you get your own room to sleep in.
You took a shower, threw on your pjs, washed your face, and brushed your teeth all before bed. You got in and got cozy in the warm covers, sighing to yourself due to absolute comfort. As you were about to fall asleep, you heard your phone chime and vibrate. You turn over grabbing it quickly and looked at the screen.
Hendery: Are you up??? 👀
You: Yeah, what’s up?
Hendery: I just wanted to let you know that I had a great time at the restaurant 😉. You taste amazing.
You: Thanks Hendery, I’ll definitely be repaying you the next time we see each other 😉.
Hendery: Yeah, next time 😢.
You giggle before pulling up your shirt to expose your bare breasts before snapping a picture, and sending it to Hendery.
You: Hopefully this will satisfy you for tonight. 😉
Hendery: Fuck, it definitely will.
You smiled before locking your phone and going to sleep.
You woke up to the sunlight hitting your face, the rays making your tan skin glow very bright. You yawned as you sat up looking around your room before going in to check your phone. You smiled when the name on the screen popped up.
Hendery: Good Morning Angel, I hope you slept well 😇
You: I did, and did you sleep good?
Hendery: Oh most definitely! Especially after the use of that present you surprised me with last night. 😏
You: So I take it you got exhausted? 😂
Hendery: No, I just overworked myself, just like I would do to you.
You felt warmth creep up to your cheeks making you smile.
Hendery: So, what’s the move for today?
You: Today is my father’s seminar, and we all have to go, after that we will probably go sightseeing later on.
Hendery: Why sightsee when your family has the most beautiful sight in front of them?
You: Stop! You’re making me blush. 🥰
Hendery: It’s my job to make you blush. ❤️
You: Anyways, I have to get ready, I’ll try to squeeze in some time with you if I can today. ❤️
Hendery: Okay babe! I hope to see you today! ❤️
You got up and got dressed before heading out with your family to your dad’s seminar. The car taking you to the destination.
You weren’t surprised to see that the seminar was in an auditorium, you just didn’t expect it to be so big. It has seats filled to the max, and you were surprised at how many people showed up, but to be quite honest, your dad was pretty powerful speaker.
“Okay my lovely family, wish me good luck, and I’ll see you after it’s all done.” Your dad said, huddling you all in for a big hug. “Good luck.” You, your mother, and sister said in unison as he ran out and into the stage entrance. You all went to take your seats that said reserved with your name cards in them. You all sat in the exact middle Aisle, not in the front or far back, but literally the middle, the only thing you hated was that they gave you the second seat next to the aisle, you hated sitting in the aisle seat, and since the reserved spot next to you was vacant, you actually were in the aisle seat. You looked at the reserved empty spot to see who was supposed to sit there, you noticed that there was no name tag like your family’s, so it was probably a seat that someone could claim if they reserved the spot meaning that it would be vacant.
You sat still, just minutes away from your father’s speech. You felt cold on the left side of your body, one thing you hated about auditoriums was that they never seemed warm, you had to always use the people you sat next to as your personal heater, which is why you hated the aisle seat, with your sister on your right side, no one was on your left.
Suddenly, you felt a body larger than yours fill up the empty seat, as you looked over, your eyes gleamed with happiness.
“I didn’t miss the speech did I?” Hendery said with a smile plastered on his cute face. “You made it, I’m glad you’re here.” You smiled. “I’m happy to be here babe.” Apparently Hendery’s little ‘babe’ was loud enough for your sister to hear. “Babe? Is this the boy you been chatting to online?” She whispered to you, causing Hendery to smile. “Yeah, that’s me, nice to meet you.” He said shaking her hand. “You’re really cute and hot. Do you have a brother?” She asked eagerly causing you to giggle. “Nope, nothing but sisters.” He replied. “Damnit, you’re so lucky (Y/n).” She said before shifting over to talk to your mom.
“Should we be worried about her telling your parents?” He asked. “Nah, my little sis is cool, I keep her secrets, she keeps mine, we’re super close.” “That’s how I am with my sisters, I’m their baby and their world to them.” “Well, you are a big ball of sunshine that everyone loves, of course you’re they’re world.” You say, you could’ve sworn you saw a tear well up in Hendery’s eye, but you didn’t mention it. “I love you.” Hendery says calmly. “I love you too.” You replied before looking to see if your mom was paying attention before pecking his lips, before holding his hand for the time being. Finally, the curtains open and the host introduced your dad before he walked out.
“Thank you, thank you everyone, I appreciate you all for coming out today.” Your dad said proudly and happy. For the next two hours you and Hendery sat together with your hands held the entire time. Anytime your dad mentioned happiness, Hendery would graze his thumb over your hand letting you know that you made him happy. After the end of your dad’s speech, Hendery quickly went out so your parents wouldn’t see him. He quickly pecked you on the cheek, and left with the congestion of the people exiting the auditorium. You, your mom, and sister all waited outside waiting for your dad. Finally after a few minutes, he walked out grinning proudly.
“Did I do good?” Your dad asked chuckling. “You did great honey! I’m so proud of you!” Your mom said pecking your father’s lips. “Good job dad.” You and your sister said in unison before giving him a hug. “Well, the good news is, to celebrate I’m taking you guys to another nice restaurant, so without any delays let’s go family, traffic is going to be hectic trying leave.” You all walked out and got into the reserved car to take you all back to the penthouse to get ready for the huge dinner party. Like your dad had mentioned, traffic was definitely heavy on the way out. You sat in the seat ready to take a long awaited nap on the way back, but you were woken up by your phone vibrating in your lap.
Hendery: Hey your dad did so well today, it definitely opened up my perspective about happiness ❤️
You: Aww, I’m glad you liked it! He loves his motivational speeches. 🥰
Hendery: What are you doing right now?
You: My family’s going back to our place to get dressed for dinner tonight at another restaurant.
Hendery: Ooh, can I come?
“Is that Hendery?” Your sister whispered towards you. “Uh, do I get privacy?” You ask. “You lost that privilege when you were three.” She joked. “Yes it’s him.” You replied. “Is he coming to dinner?” “No, I really don’t want him to because I don’t want mom to get suspicious as to why I keep leaving the table. I actually need your help.” You said. “Okay, what is it? After dinner, dad mentioned that he would take us somewhere that you and I wanted to go to tonight and tomorrow since he’s free, if you mention to him to take us out tonight, I’ll play sick and they’ll take me back to the penthouse to ‘get better’ after you guys are gone, I’m inviting Hendery to come over.” “Ahh, so then you guys are gonna have sex?” She snickered. “Aren’t you a little too young for this conversation?” You joked. “I’m eighteen, I know things.” “Fine, yes I think we’re gonna do it, but you have to keep mom and dad out for like three hours so we can and then he can leave before getting caught.” You stated. “I gotcha.” She said winking.
You: Hendery, I don’t want you to come to the dinner, but at 9 pm, come by the penthouse, I’ll head down to sneak you in so no one can see you.
Hendery: Is your family gonna be there?
You: Nope, just me and you alone.
Hendery almost dropped his phone at the thought of you two finally being alone for real this time.
Hendery: Okay, I’ll be there! ❤️
You locked your phone and silently laid still smiling like an idiot, you and Hendery are finally gonna get some alone time.
Once you all arrived at the penthouse, it didn’t take you all long at all to get ready for the dinner. You all threw on some casual/formal attire, and you all headed out to go to the restaurant.
When you all walked in, you were amazed. This restaurant was not even comparable to the restaurant you ate at yesterday. As you all got seated and were finally comfortable, the waiter arrived in ten seconds flat ready to ask for drinks. He was really polite. Once your drinks were here and you all ordered, your dad began to speak up to start some light conversation.
“Didn’t I tell you guys that this place was incredible?” He asked with enthusiasm. “It’s beautiful.” Your sister replied. “I’m glad that I can spend all the time that I can with my family.” Your dad said smiling. “Well we’re happy to spend time with you as well.” Your mom said. “In fact I have a surprise for my two daughters right now.” He said. You and your sister looked at him with curious looks ready to see what the surprise is. “Because we only have two more days until we leave beautiful South Korea, I want to take you two to those places that you said you wanted to go to when we arrived here. (Y/n), you mentioned the museum, but since it’s closed we’ll have to go tomorrow, and (Y/S/N), you wanted to go out to view the city night life, shopping, tourists shops, we are gonna head out tonight.” “Why can’t I go by myself?” Your sister asked which caused you to nudge her making her glare at you. “Because by Korean law you are under age, but nonetheless we’ll make it a fun time. After dinner we’ll just head back to our place to change into some more comfortable clothes for a night out on the town.” He said smiling. You could not believe this, fate was really playing on your side today, you and your sister didn’t have to do a thing to initiate the plan, all you have to do is pretend to be sick, and your sister has to keep them out for three hours.
Once after the conversation, your food had arrived and it was delicious, five stars for sure. You all finished eating, and dad paid the bill. As you all got up, you headed to the car still smiling wide, happy that you finally get to see Hendery again, and this time alone.
“I can’t believe that worked.” You whispered to your sister. “Me either.” She said. “Remember, you have to keep them out for three hours.” You reminded her. “Of course, I don’t want to watch you and Hendery make a baby.” She said with a fake disgusted face. You both were happy that the plan was going to work out overall.
You all arrived back at the penthouse at 8:30, you wished you could’ve had a little more time to get yourself looking a little more presentable, but nonetheless it worked. You took a quick ten minute shower and threw on some lounge wear, a white t-shirt, and some knee high socks to feel more comfortable. As your parents called you and your sister, you both walked out, your sister who looked ready to go, and you who was not ready to go.
“What happened (Y/n)? Why aren’t you dressed better?” Your mom asked. “I don’t feel so good, I think I ate too much at the restaurant.” You said queasily. “Well of course you don’t feel good, we told you to not eat that big piece of chocolate cake and look at you now! Now you have to stay in bed and rest.” Your mom continued. “Are you sure you don’t wanna go with us sweetie?” Your dad asked with concern. “Yeah I’m fine, I’ll be better if I get a little sleep.” “Well, feel better soon.” He said before your family walked out the door. Your sister turned back as she closed the elevator door giving you a thumbs up. Looking at the time it was 8:55, perfect. You were super happy about your plan falling into affect. You were about to text Hendery about the good news until you heard the elevator ding signaling that someone was here, scared to see who it was when you knew your family left, you hid behind the couch trying to see the person.
“(Y/n), are you here?” The voice of Hendery rang through the penthouse as you looked behind the couch, happy and relieved to know it was him, you jumped up from the couch running towards him. “Hendery!” You yelled before hugging him and kissing his cheek, but then it dawned on you, how did he get up here without access.
“How did you get up here? You need a key card to scan to access the elevator.” You asked. “I know, luckily I was here when your family arrived because I didn’t know, as I walked into the building, your sister recognized my face and told me ‘You need this’ while giving it to me. It’s your sister’s card.” He replied. “Remind me to do something special for her.” You giggled. “So how long is your family gonna be gone for?” “Literally three hours.” You said happily. “Oh wow, then I’m, that gives us a lot of time to…” He trails off, moving closer to you before wrapping his hands around your waist. “Yeah.” You said, moving in closer to connect your lips with his.
His lips were super soft, you loved them, that was your favorite trait about him, how he kissed you, how he spoke towards you, and how he smiled, it was all things you loved about him. “Where do you wanna go? In here or my room?” You asked, lips still pressed to his. “Mm, I’m worried your parents might walk in on us, so your room for sure.” Hendery chuckled. You detached your lips from his, and took his hand to follow you into the room. As soon as he saw your room, he fell in love with it.
“This is your room?” He asked. “Yes, well for a temporary time it is.” You giggled. Your room was decorated with purple fairy lights that you could turn on at night, what was the most fascinating part was that you could see the tall buildings and lights of Korea from your big window. “So we really get to have sex in style huh?” Hendery asked jokingly. “Of course babe, and that’s not all, what’s your favorite color?” You asked. “Pink!” He exclaimed. You removed your oversized shirt to show your rose pink lace lingerie set you wore underneath. Along with the pink set and grey knee high socks, it was no surprise that Hendery had a slight boner so soon.
“Are you trying to kill me?” He said still staring at your body, particularly your chest. “No, I just like to tease.” You replied. “Well, two can play at that.” He said before throwing you on the bed. He hovered over you kissing you rough and passionate. Your hands found the nape of his neck and began to lightly tug on the hair there. He began to plant kisses all over your face making you chuckle before he moved his lips down to your neck.
Hendery lips planted small kisses in the crevice trying to find your sweet spot. As soon as he kissed the area under your ear, you let out a small whimper. “Bingo.” He said before sucking on it slightly. You would’ve probably protested for him placing a love bite on your neck for your family to see, but finally getting to share this moment with him, you couldn’t stop him. He placed one more love bite near the first one, and once satisfied, he traveled down to your collarbone and chest.
He placed kisses on your collarbones and sucked two bites on each collarbone, he then moved down to your chest and sucked love bites on your both of your breasts. “Mm, I hate to do this because you look so beautiful, but can I take this off?” Hendery asked referring to your bra. You nodded your head, eager to feel his lips against your body. He reached behind you and unclasped your bra letting it fall off your physique. Your supple breasts being the only thing his eyes could focus on. He groped them slowly instantly making the nipples hard before taking one into his mouth.
“H-Hendery.” You whined, your hand immediately finding its way to his brown locks. He casually nibbled on your nipple, the sensation traveling down to your pussy as it throbbed with need. He repeated the same action to the other one coating it with his own saliva. Hendery continued to travel down to the rest of your body, kissing your stomach and thighs before kissing just above the hem of your panties. Inch by inch he teased you with his lips making small little pecks on the outside of your pink panties.
“Hendery, p-please more.” Hendery’s lips could feel your wet arousal through your panties, it made him eager to move on, but was in a constant loop of wanting to tease you or get on with it. Soon enough, Hendery tapped your thighs signaling you to lift your legs as his slender fingers tugged at the hem of your panties before pulling them down off of you.
“So beautiful.” Hendery smiled. “I wanna see some beauty too, I don’t want to be the only one naked here.” You giggled. Hendery playfully rolled his eyes. He began to remove his shirt as well as his jeans leaving him in his boxers, revealing the very hard tint outlined in them. “You look so much better.” You smiled. Hendery shook his head before getting back to work. He spread your legs open before leaning down to blow cool air on your warm pussy, the action made you shiver in his grasp. Hendery then gave your thighs little tiny pecks before getting to where you needed him the most. With one long lick from your slit to your clit, Hendery got to work. He gave you agonizingly slow licks that made you whimper, it wasn’t until he began to suck on your clit was when you became more reactive.
“Ahh, Hendery.” You moaned, hands instantly reaching for his hair. You tugged on it slowly giving Hendery a reason to groan into you, the vibrations giving you chills throughout your entire body. His licks became more aggressive as he moved from your clit to your entrance, licking around it in circles before inserting his tongue into you making you let out a small scream.
You felt pleasure jolt through your entire body as his tongue slid in and out of you at ease from you wetness, the wet muscle ramming in you at a good pace, Hendery’s nose was bumping your clit as his tongue moved back and forth getting you ready for your first orgasm for tonight.
“Hendery can I cum?” You asked not ready to wait much longer. “Yeah, baby, cum all over my face.” He groaned into your pussy. You were thrown over the edge after the quick response from Hendery. Your back arched and Hendery groaned into you as you rode out your high observing your body. The dim purple lights as well as the moonlight and some of the city lights gave your body a gorgeous glow. You looked so beautiful, Hendery almost came in his pants because of it. Once your orgasm was finished, Hendery licked you clean, licking up all your juices that you had to offer him. He pulled away, savoring the taste.
You sat up and looked at his dick print in his boxers, it looked so nice in the lighting, you had to suck him off. You crawled towards him in an effort to tease him before sitting up on your knees and looking up at him. The light making your irises look full and bright, you wrapped your fingers around his boxers before licking your lips. “Hendery, I wanna suck you off. I wanna make you cum.” You whined. Hendery’s parted lips a slight “fuck” escaped from them. He nodded his head signaling you to continue, with that you pulled down his boxers before taking out his cock letting it slap the lower part of his stomach. Hendery groaned in relief as he was released from his confinement’s. You slowly wrapped your hand around his length, before pumping it up and down. Hendery’s head was thrown back loving the feeling of your hand. Your thumb began to smear his precum around the tip, and right after that you attached your mouth to him, tongue swirling around his tip.
“(Y/n), fuck more baby.” Hendery groaned. You began to take more of him into your mouth. Your cheeks widening up as you felt his length close to the back of your throat. Finally, you bobbed your head up and down at a normal pace, swiping your tongue around the vein of his cock as well trying to give him some more pleasure. Hendery’s hand moved towards your hair, moving it into a makeshift ponytail to keep it out of your face. With the overwhelming pleasure, Hendery slowly began to thrust into your mouth trying to speed up his orgasm.
“(Y/n), I’m gonna cum soon.” He groaned. You used your hand to pump his entire length before removing your mouth from his shaft to suck on his tip, the sensation on his most sensitive area made his cock twitch in your hand, and with that Hendery released his cum down your throat. “(Y/n)!” He moaned out, hand tightening in your hair. You continued to keep your mouth on him until every spurt of cum hit the back of your throat, once you finished, Hendery pushed you back against the bed before hovering over you to kiss your soft lips.
“Are you ready?” Hendery asked. “Ready as I’ll ever be.” You replied. “Please let me know if I hurt you in any way.” He said before lining his cock up with your entrance. Soon enough, Hendery slowly pushed into you, looking at your every expression to make sure you were okay. You weren’t a virgin, but it’s been years since you’ve done it, so you definitely needed time to adjust.
“Are you okay?” Hendery asked sweetly. “Yeah, I just gotta get used to the stretch.” You replied. “Well, I just wanna let you know that you look very beautiful.” He smiled. “Thank you baby.” You kissed his lips before he began to start small talk again. You knew that Hendery was trying to keep your mind off of the pain for sure which made the situation way better than it seemed. He never wanted to see you in pain. As soon as the pain subsided you tapped Hendery’s shoulder and gave him a nod, signaling him to move.
“God baby, you feel so tight.” Hendery groaned. Hendery thrusted into you at a pretty slow pace trying to not go over what you can’t handle. He grabbed your hand intertwining it with his before kissing your forehead as he moved. You whined into him, the pace being a little too close for comfort.
“Hendery, could you move a bit faster?” You asked softly. “Of course.” He began to pick up his pace, this time a more steady thought out pace moving in and out of you well. As you whined faster one last time, Hendery began to drill into you without any second thought, your moans got louder and louder as he fucked you at an intense pace. “So good, so good.” You moaned. Hendery’s moans were very intense too, the boy is pretty loud during things he enjoys, and this was one of them. The only that could be heard in the room was the slapping of skin, and the moans that bounced off the walls. You began to wrap your legs around Hendery’s waist, wanting him to go deeper than before. Your hands holding onto his shoulders gently, now feeling every inch of him with your legs crossed on him.
“Hendery, you feel good, you’re so deep!” You whined. “I’m glad you can feel me this deep baby.” He groaned in your ear. He began to kiss you again, this time, your tongues battling each other with Hendery winning. He wanted to keep his composure, not wanting to cum very soon, but with the way your walls hugged around his cock, that was nearly impossible. With your own orgasm on the way though, you clenched down even harder trying to get him to cum near the same time you do. “Baby, if you keep clenching on me like that, I’m gonna cum.” “Good because I’m close.” You mewled. Hendery began to pound into you even harder, the action made his pelvis hit your clit repeatedly throwing over the edge. You let out a long pornographic moan as you rode out your high. Hendery feeling the way your pussy pulsates and hearing your moans, he knew he was about to cum.
“(Y/n), I’m not wearing a condom, where should I-?” He asked worriedly. “You can cum on my chest, since you love my boobs so much.” Hendery immediately pulled out, the empty feeling making you sad, but Hendery made it better by cumming on your chest. He let out the longest groan as thick white spurts painted your chest like a painting, in Hendery’s mind, you were his masterpiece. Satisfied with his orgasm, Hendery went to your bathroom to grab a wet cloth to wipe his sticky seed off of your body.
“Thank you.” You smiled. “It’s my pleasure, you were so amazing.” He replied. “No, you were better.” Hendery finished cleaning your body before he laid back on your bed. You began to yawn surprised at how your sleepiness got the best of you. “Go to sleep, I’ll stay with you until you do.” Hendery said. You kissed his lips before he held you in his arms waiting for you to fall asleep. It didn’t take you long though, after the events that took place, as soon as Hendery’s heard soft breaths from your lips, he knew you were asleep. He kissed your forehead, but that was not all, as he watched you sleep, Hendery accidentally fell asleep as well, as time went by, it soon became midnight already. With you and Hendery sleeping soundly, you both didn’t hear your family walk in.
“Hold on, I’m gonna go and check on (Y/n) real quick.” Your mom told your dad. “(Y/n), we’re back, and I’m just checking in on- Ahh!” Your mom screamed startling you and Hendery. “Babe, I heard you scream what’s the- (Y/n) what the hell is going on!?” Your dad responded. With you and Hendery looking dumbfounded, you knew you were in for a long lecture.

The mapping and naming of Oceania as Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia has been extensively [...] critiqued [...]. In mapping Oceania, Melanesia was the only subregion named after the skin colour of its inhabitants: the ‘black-skinned people’ or ‘black islands’. The names Polynesia and Micronesia describe the geography of the islands. The term Melanesia was deployed to invoke blackness [...]. European images of Oceania were also influenced by the concept of the ‘noble savage’, which glorified a ‘natural life’ that was seen as uncorrupted [...] and therefore represented humans’ innate goodness [...]. The portrayal of Pacific Islanders as noble savages was influenced largely by the accounts of European explorers like J*mes C*ok and Louis Antoine de Bougainville, who had documented their shared encounters with South Seas peoples and places, especially Tahitian and Marquesan peoples and landscapes. [...] Papua New Guinean scholar Regis Tove Stella discussed how race was used in European colonial discourse to describe and represent Papua New Guineans as inferior to Europeans and other Pacific Islanders, party because of their darker skin. [...]
I have often wondered how the view of Pacific Islanders as noble savages would have developed had it been based on European encounters with my ancestors from the Solomon Islands or with those from other parts of Melanesia. Perhaps the descriptor of the savage would have shifted from noble to ignoble.
--------
Scholarly enterprises that developed with European and North American higher education also contributed to the construction and perpetuation of the negative representations of Melanesia. [...]. Epeli Hau’ofa commented on the role of anthr*pology in perpetuating what he called ‘distorted’ images of Melanesia:
After decades of anthropological field research in Melanesia we have come up only with pictures of people who fight, compete, trade, [...] engage in rituals, [...] copulate, and sorcerise each other. There is hardly anything in our literature to indicate whether these people have any such sentiments as love, kindness, consideration, altruism, and so on. We cannot tell from our ethnographic writings whether they have a sense of humour. [...] (2008).
Hau’ofa took issue with the tendency to describe Melanesian polities as underdeveloped and backward compared to ‘advanced’ Polynesia. [...] The descriptions of Melanesian sociopolitical organisations as underdeveloped and backward were also due to Europeans’ inability to relate to and understand the complexities of Melanesian societies. For instance, the Kula Ring in Papua New Guinea entailed complex interactions among peoples from different language groups involving trade, politics, ceremonial exchanges and social relationships that held these societies together and survived for thousands of years [...]. Consequently, the absence of centralised authority and the relative egalitarian nature of societies in the southwestern Pacific and among Indigenous Australians implied social deficiencies [...].
-------------
The negative representation of Melanesians -- and hence the construction of the ignoble savage -- is found not only in academic research and writings but in visual images as well.
I am often troubled by images of Melanesians that are framed and hung on the walls of university buildings. To me they look uncomfortable, trapped in time for the entertainment, curiosity and amusement of those who walk the corridors. When I first went to The Australian National University (ANU), I found that the only picture of bare-breasted women on the walls of the Coombs Building was one of Solomon Islanders [Melanesia]. [...] When I joined the East-West Center in Honolulu, I noticed that the only pictures of half-naked people on the walls of Burns Hall were those of people from Tanna in Vanuatu [Melanesia]. [...] I passed the half-naked Tanna people and then came to pictures of Micronesians who were dressed and represented in studio poses, as though they had been liberated from savagery, unlike the Melanesians at the other end of the hallways.
I often wondered what those people in the pictures might have been thinking as they stared at me from their framed existence. They probably wondered why I was walking along the corridor and not framed and hung on the wall with the rest of them.
Perhaps I am framed in a different way -- still stuck in the racialised map of Oceania constructed by early Europeans and sustained by contemporary discourses.

SPIRAL, Polina Ogiy
Spiral shapes often found in nature: galaxies, whirlpools and tornadoes, shells molluscs, the papillary lines of the fingers, the double helix of the DNA molecule. The principle of the spiral often found in nature, and this symbol has become widespread since the dawn of man. The spiral itself macrocosmica, but the naked eye cannot see, as in a spiral nebula manifests itself in the cosmos that can, for example, by observing vortex motion in flowing water or seeing the whirlpool that occurs when the water or other liquid is poured through the hole down. Since ancient times One of the most common decorative patterns from Europe (the double helix in the Celtic tradition or spiral on Roman capitals) to the Pacific Ocean (spiral carving Maori in New Zealand and the tattoo of the islanders in Polynesia). A very complex character that has been used since Paleolithic times and appears in pre-dynastic Egypt, Crete, Mycenae, Mesopotamia, India, China, Japan, pre-Columbian America, Europe, Scandinavia and Britain; it is found also in Oceania, but not in Hawaii. a very ancient and widespread graphic symbol, akin to a circle or, more precisely, the system of concentric circles, which at first glance is not always possible to distinguish from the spiral. While theoretically both symbolic representations are understood in a different way, it is possible that drawn from the centre in all directions "ring wave" (concentric circles) if you make it fast and fluently, moving in a spiral and can be interpreted in the same way, In principle, the spiral dynamic system, which, depending on the method of consideration may be either collapsed or expanded, the movement goes or to the center, or Vice versa, from the centre. Its ambiguity is unusually large. Combines the shape of a circle and the momentum brings together the symbolism of the circular and translational motion, which is often considered as the ascent. Development is done on the principle of the spiral. Each coil — end of a cycle and at the same time the beginning of the next. Each cycle is the heyday of those cycles which preceded it, and preparing more favourable conditions for the future. The development of the whole world is made according to the principle of the spiral. Each coil — end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Communication with natural objects often determines the symbolism spiral Symbolism spiral patterns is rather involuntary, conscious its use is much rarer. Even pointless game activities could also lead to the shape of the simple signs of this kind not involving a deep symbolic meaning. Ascending and descending spirals As divergent and convergent, it can mean the increase and decrease of the Sun, stays and decrease of the moon, and by analogy, growth and proliferation, death and contraction, winding and unwinding, birth and death. Opposing force, clearly present in the phenomena of nature, are reminiscent of the ascending, descending or rotational energy that drives the Cosmos. Upward spiral — masculine, phallic sign, the downward — female. The double helix the Double helix represent the snakes of the caduceus, the rod of the Brahman depicts the dual spiral line, on both sides of the sushumna are two thin canal, symbolizing the opposite currents, opposing forces, alternating the rhythm of the movement, the life, the Yang to the Yin ... Double helix (snakes on a caduceus, the sign of the Taoist "Yin-Yang") symbolize the balance of opposites. Double helix means increase and decrease the power of the Sun and the moon, and the changing rhythms of evolution and involution, life and death, etc. It can mean two hemispheres, two poles, day and night, all the rhythms of nature, Yin and Yang, Shakti-Shakti, the manifestation of the failure to exercise, and a sequence of cycles. Is a typical symbol of the androgyne and is connected with the symbolism of bidirectional operation, as well as with the solve et coagula of alchemy. A double helix is present at the symbol of Yin and Yang. Interesting sign of the double helix, in which both elements — samorazvitie and semiconcentrated ("evolution and involution") associated inseparably connected. This can be seen in the image "of the formation and disappearance" as a process of the eternal cycle. In this sense, we can interpret the double helix on the triangle surrounded by statues of "mother goddess" from Thrace Neolithic. The spiral shape of the snakes on the caduceus, as well as other double spiral, symbolizes balance of opposites. The same meaning is contained in the Taoist sign "Yin — Yang" is a kind of double helix. The spiral formed by the movement of water, maternal and sacred elements were considered manifestations of the Universe, which was perceived as an animate being; thus, the spiral is a way of life. The spiral also symbolizes breath and, possibly, fire (solar outlet with a spiral in the center, twisted columns, etc.). Spiral, in which there is a turbulent motion, is a symbol of development, of eternal change, whose value is close to the symbolism of the shell and is associated with Water, Moon and Woman (fertility, birth and rebirth, love and marriage). A flat spiral like a maze: development and regression (return to center). the spiral is often represented in the form of a coiled snake (symbol of wisdom). Spiral — a symbol of cyclical rhythms: the change of seasons, the increase and decrease of the moon, birth and death. Spiral rhythm of life. Sometimes the spirals were carved on gravestones, depicting the journey through the maze of the underworld. Diverse is the power of the Sun and moon, air, water, thunder and lightning. It is also a whirlwind, a great creative force, an emanation. It can also symbolize continuity. Can be a image of rotating sky, motions of the Sun, the changing seasons, the rotation of the earth. As the swirl during a storm or whirlpool, it means fertility and the dynamic aspect of being. Like a whirlwind or vortex, it compares Bastion with the great creative forces. Like a tornado it is associated with the descending Chinese dragon. Spiral and tornado have the same symbolism, especially when you play as symbols of energy in nature. The spiral, or vortex, is associated with spinning and Daniel web of life and the veil of the Mother Goddess, a hostess of fate and weaver of the veils of illusion. The spiral has, in addition, the same symbols as ла6иринт. In metaphysical terms it symbolizes the reality of the existence of different modalities of being, wandering of the soul in manifestation and its ultimate return to the center. As the thunder, lightning and rain clouds, it is a symbol of fertility. The IUD may also be a symbol of flame and fire, as in the symbolism of the Celts. The symbolism of the spiral contains all that has a helical structure: snail shells, sea shells, the ear, the tentacles of the octopus, animal horns, animals like the cat and the dog, which can arch your back, Curling in rings snake, plants that grow in a spiral ivy, fir cones and unblown leaves of a fern. It is also associated with the souls of gods and kings, with rain causing animals and reptiles, with a coiled and sleeping serpent of Kundalini. The gods of tornadoes and natural disasters and movements have a hairstyle in the form of spirals or shells. The spiral is also associated with the navel as the center of power and life. whirlpool - In any case, it serves as a hint to dive into the "depths of death". This could explain why such symbolic signs were often found as the carved images on the stone blocks megalithic prehistoric burial structures. Valid, however, that this way was played and the impression of the movement of heavenly bodies in the night sky. It is possible to observe that this kind of petroglyphs (carvings on stones) in the days of the solstice through the gap in buildings was highlighted and are cut sunlight. As the Sun in the evening "in the Western seas drowning", to the next morning to reappear in the East, the use of such signs could also be associated with images of "death and resurrection". In cultures that used pottery wheel, by simple observation it was possible to establish that system, such spiral can occur if the object (or finger) to hold moist, rotating the clay internally and externally. On prehistoric burial structures made of huge stones found in the spiral in the form of a three-palmettes, whose meaning, beyond the purely decorative item has not yet been set. Hypothetical is also the symbolic importance of the interconnection of the spiral and the labyrinth, although the set of ideas "the hard way inside and out again" close the symbolism of "dying-formation",

Art history is bullshit. So many horny men painting their “muses” and my professors are like “but what does it mean???” THEY WERE HORNY YOU DUMB DUMBS!!!!!! Art history academia is a joke a bunch of men dressed up while naked women lavish around around them, they were just horny!!!!! No deeper meaning except that they wanted to paint a tiddy and then they felt bad about it so they painted Jesus then they were horny again and painted more pasty girls being adorned with flowers or reclining on a couch or something with come hither eyes! Men’s hormones ruins everything we probably couldve had better art sooner if women had been given more paintbrushes!!!!! But no! Gaugin had to go to Polynesia and have a child bride and Bernini had to slice up his mistresses face when he found out he wasn’t sleeping with her and Picasso was an old creepy pos with a teen girlfriend. Michaelagelo was horny too but he can stay because he liked boys.

The Bitter Irony of Commander Lawrence’s artworks in The Handmaid’s Tale
[CW: physical and psychological violence against women, violence against minors, murder, racism]
These are my thoughts regarding the relation between the art displayed in the set and the tv show The Handmaid’s Tale. Over-interpretation is part of the reflexion, but please let me know if anything I said may have hurt you or seemed to be completely misconstrued.
In the 12th episode of the second season of The Handmaid's Tale, we were introduced to a new character, Commander Lawrence, who "welcomes" Emily (Alexis Bledel) into his house. The whole setup is somewhat disorienting and the artworks displayed are an important part of it, so I would like to give you my train of thoughts when we were introduced to the house and its inhabitants.
Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) accompanies Emily and comments on how no-one wanted her, following her history of revolt. Of course we are intrigued as to whom would open their house to her, in the context of Gilead. And when the door opened for the first time on a one-eyed Martha, Cora, I had two very opposite insticts, which were then kept up during the episode:
first I thought the Commander would be a cruel cruel man, taking the women nobody wanted anymore to do whatever he wanted to them, a sadist even worse than the "norm" in Gilead.
then I hoped it'd be a kind and considerate man, trying his best to help the scorned, tortured women, (since Emily has also suffered inhumane mutilation).
We then enter the house, a cluttered house full of trinkets, books, paintings unlike the ones we've been accustomed to before (naked bodies, abstract and expressionist art etc.). Quick side-note: most of the art on display in Commanders' houses so far were Impressionnist works, Monet in Waterford's office, Pissarro in Emily's previous commander's bedroom.
Tumblr media
Aunt Lydia is surprised, as we are. The maid freely "jokes"(?) and talks back to the Commander as though there wouldn't be any consequence, or maybe she doesn't care about the consequences.
In the staircase, two paintings:
Tumblr media
"Julius Caesar on Gold", Jean-Michel-Basquiat, 1981, Sotheby’s "Dark tree trunks", Georgia O'Keeffe, 1946, Brooklyn Museum
Contemporary art in these households?
But then, Commander Lawrence appears. And of course we know Bradley Whitford from The West Wing, but the role which he's now associated with is that of Dean Armitage in Get Out (what, you haven't seen Get Out? Go watch it and come back thanks). In Get Out, his racism (and that of his family) is for the first part of the movie contained to a "fascination" towards black people, hypocrite statements and intrusive behaviour. And the same uneasiness transpires through his character in The Handmaid's Tale.
During this episode, we learn from his wife, seemingly mentally broken and abused, that he is the founder of the Colonies system. We also learn that she was an Art professor.
“Life didn’t turn out the way she wanted it to. She was an art professor. She wanted everything to be beautiful.”
And like Mrs. Waterford who's in charge of the decoration in her home and chose impressionnist paintings (we can assume stolen from museums) to reflect her love of watercolor, it might be an indication that she at least participated in the decoration of the place, maybe even collected these pieces before Gilead existed. However, like everything in this world, and an earlier scene of Commander Waterford supervising the hanging of a family portrait reminds us, men are in charge, and the art surrounding them reflects on the taste and character of these men.
According to me, the art in the Lawrence household is very loud, and talkative.
The Handmaid's Tale has handled very poorly its treatment of race relations (or lack thereof), even though the Colonies are a shameless parallel to slavery and plantations. Here, the casting choice of Bradley Whitford combined with the artworks is voluntary, even though no explicit commentary is made. The irony of a Basquiat representing a black Julius Caesar hanging in the home of what would clearly be described as a white supremacist is not lost on us. O'Keeffe's paintings are known for their erotic symbolism, but here, deprived of any woman agency, the dark trunks might be an echo of a (black?) woman's body, dehumanized. This point of view is reinforced when Commander Lawrence forces his wife back to (her or their) room, and you can see in the background a painting representing two naked women, akin to the orientalist harem paintings of the late 19th century.
Tumblr media
This manipulation of art, described as "the elite absorbing the Rebellion" is also evident in the painting by Sidney Nolan featured in the dining room during their last talk.
Tumblr media
“After Glenrowan Siege (Second Ned Kelly series)”, Sidney Nolan, 1955, MoMA
The artwork depitcs Ned Kelly, a bushranger, an ambiguous figure of Australia's history, a defender of worker's rights, also associated with the killing of policemen. As an ultra-conservative religious system based on strict order, we could hardly see them align with the politics of Kelly; but as a sectarian minority who imposed their law by force, they might see themselves as rebels (remember the right always complaining of being oppressed by people wanting to be treated equally and respectfully...)
Gauguin is featured as well, surrounded by sculpted women torsos. in my opinion joining the contradictions of this Commander. The painting is that of christian Britton women in a landscape. For the post-impressionnist, Britanny was already an elsewhere, a place of wonder, deep religious fervor even though he was anticlerical, but not enough. He then traveled to French Polynesia where his "fascination" for the autochtones led him to abuse women, minors. We remember the art as one lauding the simple state of nature, with bright colors, celebrating pleasure and harmony, even though that art emerges from his imperialistic and machist desires and abuses.
Tumblr media
“Landscape with two Breton Women”, Paul Gauguin, 1889, Boston MFA
The invasive and creepy conversation imposed by Commander Lawrence on Emily is ambiguous at best. I have little hope that we are presented with a respectful, righteous man. Even though in his turns of phrases he seems to disregard the hypocrite politeness of Gilead, and even their beliefs, as he seems to recognize Emily as a woman married and with a child, and not a gender traitor. But his interest is that of a man who maybe enjoys the brutality itself, celebrates genius and intellect and thinks art strives only from pain. So he appropriates that struggle, that of the artists, their history and fights. He is as entitled as the rest. His wife, complicit to a point, may have understood too late, may have felt guilt over their actions (her panick is shown as an illness when she is a voice of reason). She participated in that art deal, because she felt she could make the world beautiful, evidently according to her vision of beauty, so she bought, decorated, put varnish on a system that stripped creators from their agency, perverted their voice, or hid away their true nature.
At one point, Emily, who, as a woman, is not allowed to read, leaned over an open copy of Art Spiegelman’s Maus. The graphic novel is (as best as I can remember), about the artist learning about his family's history, the Shoah. This, too me, is as perverse as the game gets for Lawrence. He purposefully let that book open, at a page where people are shown hanged. We can imagine in this world how "provocative" art could be burnt, destroyed; maybe Aunt Lydia thought so when she entered. Commander Lawrence knows how Gilead could be compared to Nazi Germany (interestingly enough, right wing conservatives who call everyone nazis for wanting gun control, abortion rights etc. always feel offended when Trumpism and their "free thinking is called out as fascist, but I digress). Lawrence shows the totality of his power, how he controls her no matter how free she thinks she can be (by reading). He controls the narrative.
Tumblr media
There is something potent in art, especially when we consider who owns it. Because there we either see the limit of the works, or that of the owner's honesty. The apparent failure of a piece brings about that of the person who chose to select it. Therefore, the failure, the crackling varnish, is not only that of Lawrence, whose perversity filters through his presence onscreen and not just because of how the artworks mirror his ambiguity, but a failure of the show itself, either because I gave them too much credit where it is not due, or because this awareness reflects on its previous flaws. I really hope I am wrong about this character, that he is in fact charitable, that the art is there for the wife, and allowed because he’s such an important member of Gilead (think of the high ranking officials who kept artworks for themselves in Nazi Germany). However, I wanted not to give a diagnostic but merely to try and think of ways to interpret art as reimagined in their fictional surrounding. For more debate I invite you to check the Handmaid’s Tale subreddit (as I did... after writing all this down urgh) here here and there. Other mentioned artworks I seem to have missed include Cézanne, Klimt (another wink at Nazi spoils)...

Did ‘Ready Player One’ Give Us A Model To Shrink The State?
Many libertarians have pontificated about the best way to reach a society of self-ownership and free markets. The most conventional route has been that of the Libertarian Party which seeks to get elected officials that will pass legislation to gradually shrink the size of government; while the counter to this, agorism, as proposed by Samuel Edward Konkin III, seeks to starve the beast of the state by participating in black markets as to avoid taxation and regulation.
Both solutions seek to work within the current system of society to enact change, but not all libertarians see this model as being conducive. They believe that the system cannot be be transformed quickly enough so as to produce real change within their lifetimes, so they have resorted to the role of a blacksmith, by building a new nation from the ground up in order to accomplish the libertarian goal.
Most covered in the press are three such attempts: the settlers of the uninhabited strip of land between Croatia and Serbia called Liberland, Patri Friedman’s Seasteading Institute, and Roger Ver’s Free Society. In the most Lockean sense, Liberland utilized homesteading to attempt to create a “Free Republic” nation out of unoccupied land emerging between Croatia and Serbia’s border disputes. The 7 kilometer-long country has not been officially recognized by its neighboring countries, which claim that Liberland’s president has no legal basis for claiming the land.
The Seasteading Institute has run into its own difficulties, as a once-promising agreement with French Polynesia fell through earlier this year putting a stopper in front of the envisioned floating nation. Ver’s organization claims on its website that it’s gained more enthusiasm than expected, but due to non-disclosure agreements, they can’t publish which nations they have begun negotiations with to buy land for a libertarian country.
But the frontier that hasn’t been considered to create this society is the digital landscape, an idea that was demonstrated to me by the blockbuster Ready Player One. In the film, a futuristic dystopian Earth completes all of their business and pleasure on a virtual reality video game called “The Oasis”. The digital world is the ultimate bastion of freedom as anyone can change their appearance at will and do anything they desire.
What’s interesting about the film is the lack of police or a governing agency within the Oasis, while the outside world contains them. Even with police in the real, they seem to be frugally employed since most people in the Oasis have a separate identity, so finding someone who committed a wrong is much more difficult. But what truly makes the movie a model for a potential stateless or limited state society is that the game’s currency, simply called ‘coin’, has replaced the dollar as the world’s primary money.
Because of everyone’s dependence on the game to have meaningful interactions and communicate, coin is used to purchase in-game weapons, skins, and vehicles, but it is also used to acquire real world items. Since the game has the player lose all of their coin and items when they die, voluntary interactions are essential.
Many players test their might by going to Planet Doom where they acquire coin and items from defeating other players, but no one is forced to participate in the violence and there are just as many players that get coin through transactions. One of the main characters sells custom vehicles like the Millennium Falcon and the Starship Enterprise.
Ready Player One gives libertarians another model within the vein of starting a new nation that could overcome the oppressive state. Social media has already reached the point where it is nearly an essential part of life and it is redefining how people develop friendships, networks of professionals and deliver information.
Through Facebook, I have been able to volunteer for Larry Sharpe’s campaign for Governor of New York, even though I live in Missouri. I have started a writing and journalism career from the comforts of my home, without having met in person any of my editors or fellow contributors. Some might say that it’s crazy to live in a digital reality, but I argue that the world has already reached that point.
The first time I read Isaac Asimov’s The Naked Sun, I thought that the inhabitants of that world were crazy for never interacting in person and only communicating through holograms that appeared in their homes; but the story perfectly describes how I interact with most libertarians, minus the physical agony that the citizens of Asimov’s story felt when confronted with one’s physical presence.
Virtual reality is potentially the next bastion of libertarianism that falls into the same vein as those trying to create a new country. The difference is that the digital realm is much more accessible to everyone than would be moving to Liberland, the floating nations envision by seasteaders or wherever Free Society purchases land. There will be no need for passports or government permission to enter the electronic libertarian utopia, only access to an internet-capable device and a desire to be free.

Celebration Asian Pacific Heritage Month May 2021
Tumblr media
May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month 13 a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. A rather broad term, Asian/Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia and Easter Island).
Like most commemorative months, Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month originated with Congress. In 1977 Reps. Frank Horton of New York introduced House Joint Resolution 540 to proclaim the first ten days in May as Pacific/Asian American Heritage Week.
In the same year, Senator Daniel Inouye introduced a similar resolution, Senate Joint Resolution 72. Neither of these resolutions passed, so in June 1978, Rep. Horton introduced House Joint Resolution 1007. This resolution proposed that the President should 1Cproclaim a week, which is to include the seventh and tenth of the month, during the first ten days in May of 1979 as 18Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week. 19 1D
This joint resolution was passed by the House and then the Senate and was signed by President Jimmy Carter on October 5, 1978 to become Public Law 95-419 (PDF, 158kb). This law amended the original language of the bill and directed the President to issue a proclamation for the 1C7 day period beginning on May 4, 1979 as 18Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week. 19 1D
During the next decade, presidents passed annual proclamations for Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week until 1990 when Congress passed Public Law 101-283 (PDF, 166kb) which expanded the observance to a month for 1990. Then in 1992, Congress passed Public Law 102-450 (PDF, 285kb) which annually designated May as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month
The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
This site presents only a sample of the digital and physical holdings related to Asian/Pacific heritage available from the Library of Congress and other participating agencies.
Executive and Legislative Documents The Law Library of Congress has compiled guides to commemorative observations, including a comprehensive inventory of the Public Laws, Presidential Proclamations and congressional resolutions related to Asian Pacific Heritage Month.
Special offers for Asian Pacific Heritage Month celebration!

Island of the Sequined Love Nun by Christopher Moore
I try to match every old book I read with a new one, but I have had the week from hell so I listened to an old favorite.
This is one that is in my regular rotation, lets be honest, a lot of Christopher Moore books are in my regular rotation. I majored in Anthropology for the first half of my bachelor’s degree ( I had to switch it to interdisciplinary studies combining Anth and Cultural Studies because I couldn't afford field work and also I couldn't do statistics if my life depended on it) it is still one of my passions, and one of the reasons I loved this book is that it reminded me a lot of the way my favorite professor would talk about his field work in Polynesia. The whole fish out of water, trying to wrap your head around someone else’s normal when it is not your own. And one of the cornerstones, at least the way I understood it: No matter if the other culture is "underdeveloped" from the view point of your experience, it is their developed and to try to manipulate their viewpoints for your own gain or just because you don't see it as "right" is unconscionable and makes you the savage, not them.
So, a quick run down.
We follow Tucker Case, a pilot for a Mary Kay type business. He's a cool on the surface geek, lady's man who flies a pink jet and can't make a definitive decision at gun point.
He just sort of falls into things. He ends up being a pilot because he is suckered into naked skydiving by a couple of rich girls and is rescued after he touched down and the girls had split with his clothes, by Jake Sky, a flyer and plane mechanic who offers him a job.
He then ends up flying the pink Lear Jet for Mary Jean cosmetics. He flits between being drunk and hooking up and flying. This perfect system is ruined when a bad decision ( or lack of decision) leads him to crash the Mary Jean plane and being told by Mary Jean herself that he needs to disappear because she did not want any more publicity.
The news of the crash makes it to a small independent island in the Pacific called Alualu, where we are introduced to the Sky Priestess who sees Tucker on tv while eating Cheetos. A better set up, you cannot ask for.
See, the Sky Priestess is Beth Curtis, who is married to Dr. Sabastian Curtis a missionary turned huckster. The couple are taking advantage of the fact that the native people of Alualu’s religion is a cargo cult centered around a WW2 fighter pilot who landed his B52 Bomber (with a beautiful naked blonde painted on the nose) on their island after the Japanese forces killed or recruited the able bodied men. The Curtis's have a scheme in place lining their pockets, and they need a pilot.
Enter Tucker, who falls into this like he did flying in the first place - through Jake.
What follows is classic Moore: Laughs, action, at least one moment where you feel like bawling, and a talking fruit bat.
I love this book even though it comes dangerously close to White Savior territory. It manages to avoid it, I think, because while the people of Alualu do need saving, they are being saved from what western culture did to them in the first place, and continues to do. So its less that the island is being saved and more like a white person trying to put right what other white people fucked up. So, the book, in my view, is mostly about how our "progress" tends to screw shit up, and how the people of Alualu may be in a cargo cult, but how the westernized characters are devoted to cargo, without the faith. It is also something of a satire on religion, but not a cynical one. Faith is honored whatever that faith is, its the dogma that is sort of lampooned.
I absolutely recommend this book, but it is good to keep in mind that one of the characters is from WW2 and does use words and phrases that are offensive, but it is only one exchange in the book.
