Girlfriend Material by Katia Rose
Tumblr media
Today's sapphic book of the day is Girlfriend Material by Katia Rose!
Summary: "It’s a good thing Allison Farley isn’t in love with her best friend.
They may both be star students in their costume design program, but when it comes to relationships, Allison and Kate are as different as their fashion senses.
Kate marches through life in combat boots and crop tops, breaking hearts as fast as she steals them and insisting anything more than an emotionless hook-up is a waste of time.
Allison knits her own sweaters, wears socks with tiny strawberries on them, and has spent two years of college utterly failing at her goal of getting a girlfriend before graduation.
Until the day it hits her: she’s got a master flirting coach right at her fingertips.
It doesn't take much to get Kate on board; teaching her best friend the art of seduction seems like the perfect distraction from some of the inconvenient truths Kate would rather not face.
Like maybe she doesn’t hate relationships.
Maybe she’s just afraid of them—too afraid to reach out and grab one when it’s staring her in the face.
So it’s a good thing Kate Davidson isn’t in love with her best friend either. It’s a good thing Kate and Allison are just taking part in some purely platonic flirting lessons and are absolutely, totally, definitely not falling in love."

books i read in 2023: the rehearsals by annette christie
if it's too much work from the beginning, that's a bad sign. but if things are mostly great, you laugh a lot together, you love a lot together, you genuinely want to spend time together, then the work becomes part of it.

I had my own Motorcycle Club Romance moment tonight.
Went to the store with a friend, and while she was in there (I stayed in the car), a tall muscley tatted-up biker came out, winked at me with the sexiest smirk ever when he saw I was watching (staring), then climbed on his bike and was off.
Had to slap myself a couple times to see if I was daydreaming, but no. That really just happened.

The black Centurion car came to a stop in front of the Guild Hall. Astraea turned to me, Auron tucked between us. “I need to find a copy of my book. I want to see if my suspicions about that fiend are correct.”
“That should be easy enough,” I said, stepping out of the car. I moved around to her side and opened her door. “Whatever you need, I can provide. You merely need to ask.”
“I guess we don’t really need to rush to a store, do we?” She laughed gently, slipping out of the car. Auron followed her, sticking close to her side. She looked at me, the hint of a teasing smile brightening her eyes. “I promise not to exploit you.”
I closed the door behind Astraea, leaning over her to do so, and whispered into her ear, “Use me as you see fit, I am here to fulfill all of your desires.”
Her eyes widened fractionally and I savored the flush creeping across her skin. Even though I had only just gotten a taste of her last night, I wanted more. She’d been sweeter than any nectar and more decadent than ambrosia, and if I didn’t control myself, I knew I’d become absolutely addicted to her taste. Astraea shook her head and pushed past me. “Come on, the others are waiting.”
“As you command,” I said behind her, chuckling at the glare she shot over her shoulder.

Writing Prompt/Scene Prompt/Dialogue Prompt/Possible Book Prompt
"It's not my mark!" Person B yells.
Person A quickly presses against the wall outside of the slightly open door. Staying out of view as their heart beats wildly in their chest.
"Yes, it is." Stating a calm Side character's voice. (Is this going to be in 3rd person POV or in 1st person? Whose POV are we going to be looking through?)
"I haven't touched them (referring to Person A)!" Person B snarls.
"It doesn't matter if you have touched them or not, they are your mate. Possibly your fated mate." Side character replies to Person B within the room. Still keeping their voice calm and collected.
(Person A, confused about fated mates, do they know what fated mates are or mates in general? What is the mark? What does it look like? How did the side character know? Is it low visibility or high? Can only certain people see the mark until the couple has officially bonded?)
"I don't need a mate and I refuse to take Person A as one!"
"They are your mate and they're now tied to you. Whether you like it or not they are--"
(Why's Person B so hesitant? Did Person A and B meet when Person A was too young? Is there something in Person B's backstory that has caused them to refuse to ever have a mate?)
"It doesn't matter!" Person B
Person A squeezes the piece of paper they were going to give to Person B. They were so excited and wanted to share the news with Person B. (What's on the paper? Did they get accepted into a college? A college to advance their current degree? Or potentially a job? A new gig?)
"I refuse to take them or anyone else as a mate. Fated or otherwise!" Person B states firmly.
Swallowing hard Person A, looks down at the flimsy piece of paper. (Do they throw it away? Do they deliver it but in secret? Or do they just let it fall out of their hands and onto the floor?)
Person B has never touched Person A or seemed interested in them in that way. Or has Person A just not noticed? Deciding it's best to put space between them and Person B, Person A leaves. Not wishing to hear more about Person B refusing to have a mate.
(Is Person A heartbroken for more than one reason? Was there more dialogue they overheard between Person B and the Side Character? Did Person B mention they were a burden?
Does Person A move away and leave the school or business? What is the scenario and scenery revolving around the characters? Does Person B find the note themselves? Or does someone hand it to Person B?
Do the two ever meet again? Does Person A accomplish/stick to what was on the paper they were originally going to give to Person B? And what happens if Person A has found another mate(s)? Will Person B still be accepted? Redemption arc? Or realizing they are too late?)
Please tag me so I can read if you use this idea!

Review: Happy Place (Emily Henry)
Rating: ★★★★★/5
“All my life, I’ve let other voices creep in, and they’ve drowned out my own. Now my mind is strangely quiet. For the first time in so long, I hear myself clearly. One word. All it takes to answer the only question that can’t wait. You.” I am all out of tears. They’re gone, spent, fully dried up. This book wrecked me. Harriet and Wyn have been inseparable for 8 years. They're engaged to be married - until the unthinkable day when a phone call changes everything, and they're not. Now, Harriet is going back to her happy place, the Maine vacation home from where so many of her happy memories stem...only to find that Wyn, against their agreement, is there too. A week with their closest friends, who don't know that they've broken up...what could possibly go wrong? The first thing I have to point out is how goddamn hilarious Emily Henry is. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times in this book, and I just adore how she can evoke that kind of response so effortlessly. Her humour is so on point. But, in equal measure, she also breaks hearts with reckless abandon, and the angst in this book was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I actually didn't know where this book was going to go. It was hope, then heartbreak, then hope, and we rinse and repeat over and over again. I felt so wrung out by the end. I cried so hard through the last few pages, and I can't get over just how well-written and genuine the story here is. I loved Harry and Wyn and their friend group. Each and every one of them is interesting, unique, and relatable in different ways; I loved Kimmy and her boisterous party-girl side, Cleo's more introverted homebody vibes, Sabrina and her chic movie-star-with-a-plan effervescence, Parth the party boy. But most of all, I loved and felt for and pined for Wyn. He's so beautiful, in every possible way. This group of people feel like family. I was so drawn in to their story. I loved the flashbacks and learning about what happened between Harry and Wyn and why we end up where we do. I loved the Maine summer vibes. This is nostalgia at its best, with hope for the future entwined with fondness for the past. I'm so sad I can't read this book for the first time ever again.

REVIEW
Tackled by Amy Jarecki
Blitzed #3
Addiction is a disease with long sharp claws that won’t let go easily. Jeb Jones, star college quarterback, doesn’t realize the problem he has until one cold day that should have been enough to set him straight. With the choices he has been given, the future he desires, and really only one option available…he takes it…but will he be strong enough to clip the claws and move forward with his plans or will it all fall apart?
 What I liked:
* Jeb Jones: college senior, athlete, dark childhood with abusive father, alcoholic, bright future if he gets it together, interested in Harper
* Harper Shaw: college senior, intern at rehab clinic, daughter of a college football coach, daughter of an alcoholic, interested in Jeb
* Coach Shaw: good father, great coach, wise, strong, believes in second chances, loves deeply, really liked him
* The plot, location, and writing
* The positive realistic look at some of the damage alcohol addiction can cause
* The growth of the characters in the story
* That the book is a standalone story with a happy ending
What I didn’t like: * Jeb’s father – hated thinking about Jeb growing up with him
* The way Jeb’s first coach spoke to him when he was down BUT in the end it did work out and perhaps the strong talk was necessary…maybe
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
 4-5 Stars
        BLURB
I’m not looking for a woman, not after I humiliated myself on national TV. But she appears all the same. The woman I’ve been waiting for my entire life. A woman who possesses the power to reach my lost soul and reassemble its fragments. But she makes it clear she wants nothing to do with me. I understand, God, do I understand. After all, who wants to hook up with a man like me? With her rejection, I head toward my doubtful future, thinking our paths will never again cross. When I find out I’m wrong, I know enough not to blow this gift. I’m going to do everything in my power to prove I’m worthy. Do everything to make her realize she’s mine. Forever.
