hi, this literally just popped up in my head and i thought you'd love it if i inflicted it on you too. <3
so if tsuna is an empath (lol) and a sponge and a gemstone, WHAT IF. what if he's raised by someone else but nana and tutored by someone else but reborn? and not just by anyone else, but people who wouldn't be able/wouldn't care to recognize that tsuna being tsuna is the best thing about him, and what ultimately will ensure he'll become the perfect (giotto perfect) vongola decimo?
what if tsuna is still his own like in canon, but for whatever reason doesn't end up his mother's son and reborn's student too? doesn't end up having his mother's love and kindness and reborn's pride and confidence?
what if tsuna himself, for whatever reason, decides his kindness and love, his caring nature and understanding etc, all that makes him himself has worth to it, but isn't worth the pain and going through the struggles thrust upon him the hard way? because he might be a sponge and a gemstone, but he still can decide when to be one and to what extent to be one.
what if tsuna's a little less resilient than in canon, and ends up surrounded by people who value kindness and mercy and understanding a little less, and… he chooses the easy way to hurt back and make sure to be in a position where he can never be hurt to begin with?
(what if tsuna still grows up to be the perfect vongola decimo candidate, but for the bloody empire vongola became?)
FIRST OF ALL, HI HOPE THIS IS PAINFUL THANK YOU! :)
I think we need to start with this vision with how Tsuna started. Which is dame Tsuna. No good boy. No confidence, not good at anything, pretty badly bullied and just... in general.. a little pathetic boy. I mean? Chapter 1 Tsuna was down and ready to run away from his battle with Mochida, only in the last arc to stand up to his teacher and be like "yea? yea you want me to give up?? try me. try and take the boss watch?"
I think that evolution could still happen, but without all the kindness that Nana gave him. It definitely wouldn't be a "good" reason he was being that cocky. As we've discussed, Tsuna is an empath. And we know that the mafia world is cruel and you must be tough to survive. As Dr Shamal said, everybody who doesn't have a trick up their sleeve is dead in the mafia world. I can see Tsuna using his empathy to be manipulative in a way. He knew to lie to Daemon about Elena. Even if it was called out. He was able to figure out how to use the correct Zero point breakthrough just by Xanxus losing his shit after he did the regular one. A mafioso Tsuna would be dangerous for your mental state tbh, because he could get you to trust him, be loyal to him, or use what he knows against you. But he doesn't have Reborn's confidence and pride so he is just doing all of this for survival. Since Tsuna would have been taken from his mother's home and thrown straight into the mafia world, he has just been doing all of it to make out alive. I still think he might not have wanted to be part of the mafia world, that is a desire that existed without Nana or Reborn's influence but he would do it this time just to keep alive. He's closed off, terrified of being hurt. And being hurt would make him lash out viciously, you might not even be able to bring him back from that state. The way I'm envisioning this Tsuna is that regular Tsuna, especially by the end of the series is a lion, king of the beasts, proud and strong with a pride of his own. Maybe even a teenage-aged lion, still growing into its role.
Meanwhile this Tsuna is an injured cat, terrified out of its mind and feeling cornered, and lashing out when you get too close because it doesn't trust you or anyone.

Rewatching PJO series
Ep1 I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher
-Grover and Percy switching cheese and meat respectively (Grover took Percy's cheese, and Percy took Grover's meat) (this is very good)
-I didn't appreciate the condensing of events before but now I like how they did it (concise and gets right to the action, though of course it does miss a few of my favorite parts in the book)
-"You fell in love with God? Like Jesus?"
-"There is something wrong with my brain! I understand that I'm weird, believe me, I get it, but I'm afraid something may really be broken now" :(
-"Grover, why is there half a goat in your pants?"
-"Perseus! Listen to me. You are not broken. You are singular. You're a miracle. And you are my son." :'(

Cannot stop thinking about Morse's 'pink elephants' comment...can't tell if he was being self-deprecating or if he went through withdrawal with 1970s medicine and can't even talk (really talk, not just be glib) to Fred about it. Oh my God. They made him do it on his own! And then made him pretend like everything was normal and fine! I just can't imagine coming back from that with no one to confide in...please call your sponsor man
