this one i’m excited about because ~cursed baby~

diya was born an animal sprite. every sprite born in her family for the past four generations was born an animal sprite.

it suited her just fine, but she had always felt like she might’ve liked to be a gem sprite. or a fire sprite. or a water sprite. most of all, she’d have liked the chance to be any type of sprite wherein the type had something to do with her specifically, and nothing to do with who her family might have been. 

the zahir line of sprites were infamous on the island for this reason. for never deviating. they were a family with a highly specialized trait. i say infamous, because it might have been something that could be considered a gift. an ability that sets them apart from other sprites, makes them special. it’s a blessing on all accounts, except for the places that matter. it’s a blessing except in its origins and in the way it ends.

four generations ago, amina zahir strayed from her original purpose of helping the harvest goddess. she was tempted by the idea of more power for herself and ended up lending her proclivity for sneaking around to try and gain as much dark magic as she could in order to benefit herself. she did this at the expense of other sprites, as her magic grew to become a danger to others.

now, her family has no idea that this betrayal happened. all they know was that amina was found out by the goddess herself and a curse was placed on their line as a result.

every sprite who descended from amina, a master of whispers, were sentenced to the same fate as she. their abilities as animal sprites extended only to turning into a snake. they were able to speak with other animals freely while they were snakes, and their ease within that body was unrivaled. eventually, however, they would be confined to that form and only that form. no longer a sprite, but a serpent both in body and mind. 

this final transformation could be staved off if they were to restrict their usage of their power, but they all would succumb to it eventually. the harvest goddess, benevolent as she is, implemented a way to break this curse. if one from the zahir line were able to earn back her trust and prove that they cared more roselake at large than for themselves, the curse would be broken for everyone. so far, no one has been able to break the curse.

the zahir family became somewhat of a black sheep in the sprite world, as no one really wanted to get closer to people with that kind of fate looming over their heads. that didn’t stop the family from trying their best to be as helpful to the island as possible. if there’s a way to be overachievers in, like, nature shit, the zahir family is it.

diya , however, has mostly given up on her responsibilities as a sprite. she stopped caring, moved out of the hearth tree, and separated herself as much as possible from the harvest goddess. she got herself a job, acting as human, at the 5 point bar.

her family continues to try to get her to come back and try to break the curse, but she has taken on a nihilistic mindset and refuses to even attempt to cater to the whims of a goddess. she has also stopped trying to  slow the curse down. as a result, her features are slightly more serpentine than those of her family members because, while they’ve held off from using their powers, diya will spend hours in her serpent form.

if you happen to see a giant indian python around cape perpetua or just like.......vibing at 5 point, that’s diya.

she’s here for a good time not a long time baby !!

kind of a disaster human being. out here partying and never going home and overall disappointing her family. 

she’s fairly popular at the bar, because she’s pretty and she’s absolutely the type who lets you flirt with her until you convince her to make bad decisions. also probably the bar tender who lets it slide when your fake id is a little less than believable. generally gets in trouble with the owner of 5 point for her less than legal behavior, but she stays on because she’s a good at making drinks and bringing in the crowds. 

she/s an incorrigible flirt and a perpetual night owl.  she has the air of someone who has started to stagnate in life. she’s at a stalemate, with no plans for the future besides just embracing what she knows is coming. it’s made her kind of lazy and unmotivated, but also gave her a very go-with-the-flow attitude.

she’s very friendly and outgoing !! however, she has a tendency of shutting people out and refusing to let any relationship she has with anyone else to get deeper than a surface level acquaintance, as she doesn’t want to form any connections that might make it hard for other when she eventually disappears.
