I saw an ad for My Little Pony Equestria Girls: 2cool4school. Twilight Sparkle was wearing sunglasses and throwing gang signs. My only thought was, “So this is what the world has come to.”

I think the first Equestria Girls movie and Twilight's experience in the human world can be easily equated to how it feels to be neurodivergent in this world: Nothing makes sense, social rules don't make sense, people don't understand what you're trying to say when you speak, body feels weird, it's like you have to make an effort to move without looking clumsy and awkward, you do things in a way that seems weird or unconventional to others and get mocked/laughed at for it, worried that people won't accept the real you...
The first person she meets is Fluttershy and she stands up for her when she's being bullied by Sunset. Fluttershy (just like in fim) has trouble getting her words out until she sees Spike... who's an animal- SPECIAL INTEREST DETECTED! 💖✧( •⌄• )
Then before she heads off to class she tells Twilight that because the school doesn't allow pets she keeps a few of her animal friends in her backpack. Imagine, if you will, that this is something that helps her to cope with the anxiety that the school environment brings. Fluttershy - to me - here can be read as a neurodivergent person who has learned to mask to get by, "blending in" by not being visible in the first place, and Twilight a neurodivergent person who has not. (I could equate Twilight here to how I was in school before I gradualy stopped being myself and became more quiet to avoid bullies, I learned there was something "wrong" with me and since hiding it didn't seem to work I just disappeared into my head and rarely ever spoke). People tend to be drawn to people that share the same interests, opinions, experiences or struggles, Twilight's first friend at the school was someone who shared her struggle of fitting in, and I think that's pretty neat :)
Well, that's that! ^^ This isn't me saying this is how the movie was intended to be viewed, but a reading of it from my perspective, my autistic perspective lol 💖 (my own personal headcanon is that all of the mane 6 are neurodivergent but I'm not gonna go on about that now or this post will be even longer)
