#i submitted an application to go back to school god help me 😬#i already have a bachelor's so thankfully the general studies requirements for this one should be waived #but. i want to work with Birbs or animals in general or maybe in conservation #and the jobs in those areas that pay Livable Wages seem to require a bachelor's at minimum in a scientific field #and my local university has a biology program that doesn't require a million hours of chemistry and calculus #which has always been my barrier before #plus there are really cool options for minors and a professor who does a lot of field work with birbs!#i hope they accept me #i've taken classes there before and gotten mostly A's and been liked by my professors so i think my odds are pretty decent #plus all the 'reapply for the love of god we need tuition money in this covid plagued world' emails from the last few years #but we'll see!#it's weird to have something to look forward to again #makes the anxiety flare up with that 'but what if it doesn't happen and/or family/financial calamities happen' voice #just trying to tell myself that Sometimes Good Things Happen and it's okay. the universe doesn't have to punish you for it

One of my favorite (if not my absolute favorite) parts of watching international/non-US white American shows is seeing the food rituals. Like. It’s different everywhere but also the same. Love and history and humanity is stored in the food

I just found out a few days ago that my grandmother managed to be a member of the Polish Communist Party and of the famed Solidarity (which was working to overthrow the communist regime) at the same time. Just shows what a farce the 80s were in Poland :)

(By no means was my grandmother some sort of double agent or even very politically active. Most of the population was in the Party and it didn't mean anything. She joined the Solidarity because all her colleagues were doing it so she wasn't extraordinarily subversive either)

#She apparently just came home from work one day and told her family she joined because everyone was doing it #with what my mother describes as a rougeish smile #my grandfather wouldn't join #not because he was in the army (as a tailor)#but because he didn't have a good opinion about several people he knew who were members #my mother didn't pay much attention to politics #and what caught her notice was that she no longer had to wear a school uniform #(yes - apparently those have sth to do with communism)#and the world became more colorful in general #but those uniforms are what she remembers best #Poland #history #therese rambles #original post

I’ve had at least three students this year tell me they thought I was Jewish.

(I am their religion teacher at Catholic school, I have a papal flag in my room, I’m very known for saying y’all need Jesus - I’m still confused about how none of these are dead give aways.)

“Well then why do you talk about Jewish and Muslim people, why do you wear a veil, why are there Hebrew letters in our room?”

Because we are always going to combat ignorance with knowledge and hate with love.

America (and Europe) is so Christianized and we truly do not realise how much of the “default” is Christian. The environment at our school is intentionally Christian - we are not meant to be a secular institution, that’s not our mission - but there is a great big world out there that still caters to Christianity. We are going to be going out into this big world and meeting all sorts of amazing people who do not follow Christian traditions. (And many who are also Christian but keep different practices themselves.)

When we learn about new things we might be wary, that is different and we do not know about it - eww. (Like a toddler trying a new food.) If we speak of other traditions in class, even if it is brief, it means you already have these things in the back of your head when you encounter them in the world. Your instant reaction then, should not be negative.

If you already know that your Muslim friends will be fasting for Ramadan, that this is an important and communal part of their faith, you might need the reminder that it is Ramadan, but you can arrange schedules that suit their needs - be ready for alternate eating times. If you know that building booths outside is a part of a Jewish holiday, you won’t be as surprised when they pop up. (I thought this was the coolest thing ever as a little kid.) I am not able to teach you every detail of every religion and culture you will interact with (mostly because I don’t know myself), but you need to know that there are so many amazing people of faith in the world, with deep convictions just like yours, who are out there loving and caring for others just like you. The more you know, the more easily you can come to the table and break bread with others.

Their differences do not erase their dignity and the call to love everyone and treat everyone with respect. There is far too much hate and discord in the world. It is fine that we disagree on what we believe, it is not fine to respond with hateful comments or words/actions that demean others. There are individuals of all religious backgrounds that do and say things that are a disgrace to the religion they claim to follow, you should never be one of them.

The idea that presenting basic knowledge like ‘Muslims fast during Ramadan’, makes me somehow ‘other’ to what the students expect is terrifying. Their algorithms present such a single perspective of the world that deviation is absurd to them. Or they get deviations in the opposite direction - one of hatred and distrust.

You don’t need to know everything about every religion, but you need to know that you are called first and foremost to love, not agree, but love.

#🌙.rambles #I RAMBLE SO MUCH tbf it is 2 am..#can't help it hdljfdsk it really means so much to me to feel more like myself again #like there's still so much more i haven't been able to do n. regrets.. many of them but #there's so much more to life than that grrr i just need to remember that #success to me in school or work means nothing compared to the love i have for life and humanity as a whole #and my desire to.. really just live n be human #= stuff on family friends love in general in whichever form. learning more. of the world. indulging in my passions n being creative ykyk #the.. idea of success though is something that's a bit of a weak point for me bcs i really get too harsh on myself #but just. so long as i'm here in some way then #even if it hurts n the pain is hard to get rid of i'll live with it. i'll manage if i hold on to what's important to me #i. do feel bad bcs there r some things i wna do right now but i'm still.. v hesitant to do #i am rambling again oh my god i told myself i'll shut up but hdfjalds disappointment n self-doubt rlly r hard to deal with :<#smth i'm really trying to work on is being kinder to myself when it comes to others #bcs it's not that i necessarily think lowly of myself but i have difficulties with accepting stuff like #i don't know stuff like what i mean to them? i'm. really weak to that bcs when it comes to that i often cry actually #not that i necessarily doubt the other but it has something to do with how i feel i belong in this world #there's this.. barrier that's constantly there. i want to belong but i'm afraid.#i repeat saying these stuff often bcs. i don't know it really just often bites at me n sometimes the hopelessness #i feel within myself with a certain incompetence to change despite knowing what i need to do gets too much sometimes #i think that reflects on how i reach out to others sincerely. i genuinely want you to know that. i really care #sorry though if i disappear or get quiet at times. i feel really bad about that but it's really hard for me to get past that kind of #mental block.#but i'm afraid i suppose that if i'm the first to reach out maybe it's totally unwarranted n unwanted n i'm just a bother #i isolate myself often bcs of those thoughts. but like yeah it loops back to i need to do better n i genuinely wnt to improve myself #i don't want to be a burden but i want to stay true to myself. so i end up returning a bit #but then loops back to. yeah. being too much or too little. overwhelming or distant. extreme ends.#i end up often unintentionally restraining myself. hiding certain aspects n i hate it. even being affectionate or kind sometimes #bcs i really just want to be who i really am but i'm afraid that if it doesn't fit a certain standard set of myself then i'll be alone #i'm really trying to improve but there's just so much to think n feel n do n i just hdfkdfjlsd but i'm genuinely fine rn /gen 🥹🫶🏼

#they need to put 'having a rich childless aunt whose love-language is gift-giving' on the buzzfeed privilege quiz #lolol but aside from that i actually love my aunt so much. coolest and most normal woman in the world #when she and my mother visit together i generally say 'my parents are coming'#one year for her birthday i actually did text her sth like 'you're the father i never had' and she was like #i don't know what this means but i sense it is positive so thank you'#also should be noted she was by far the most normal of my family members wrt my coming out! the rare cis person with object permanence #i was like 'i know it's a big change but--' and she was like 'it's still you' yes god exactly thank you #also she was like 'i really like how you're thinking about this. it seems like you put a lot of careful and intelligent and creative thought #into this' and i was like dude omg thank you noticing this IS a pursuit of intellectual discovery among other things!#her apt was train accessible from my school so i used to spend a lot of time there just like eating all of her cheese slice by slice #ALSO i come from a long line of younger siblings #both my parents are younger siblings and on my mothers side both HER parents are younger siblings and my great-grandma is a younger sibling #so i was deeply and terribly misunderstood as an older sibling of course #but my aunt is my mother's older sister so i'd be like 'augh brother is being so annoying. tell me was mom this annoying as a child?#i have to imagine yes' and she'd be like 'literally yes'#imagine if a colorful butch lesbian was also a straight woman and spoke with a cartoon russian accent and was the most competent person #to ever walk the earth #that is my aunt

just at a fucking stalemate in my life right now ugh

#like. as frustrated and disappointed as my parents are that i just moved back home after college and havent done anything at all since #im even more so at myself like. i just feel like a shell. there isnt any path that someone can just plop me in and i can go through the #motions anymore like with school. i have no motivation and no drive and i really dont think i ever have but its only now that other people #can see it since i have no academic tasks to excel at anymore #and its just a stalemate bc as much as id like to try and move forward i need some kind of therapy or medication or fucking SOMETHING #because i just cannot get my mind to do anything. and i cant even begin to try and bring it up to them because i just dont think itll be #taken seriously at all. like they havent tried to do anything before and i just dont think they take it seriously in general #i dont know. my dad just cried because he was like i want yoy to succeed i dont want you to not live up to your potential #and i dont either. but i literally dont know how to exist in this world that doesnt make sense to me #we could have that. i could do what i love and do good with it but i literally cant because i have to make money for myself #and i dont know what to do otherwise. weve built a world thats too complicated and overwhelming to do anything in #it just feels like i ran into a brick wall 7 years ago and my family is only just noticing that ive been stuck in it this whole time #and theyre just trying to ask me to get over the wall but i cant. and i cant even get out of it on my own.

When I was a kid, I regularly lost reading privileges for "having an attitude" and "acting out".

It wasn't as simple as being told not to read during other activities- one of the first times it happened, I remember being six years old, watching my stepfather pull fistfuls of books off my bookshelf and throw them to the floor in a heaping mess while I cried and asked him to stop.

It was weird. Every other adult I knew described me as exceptionally well-behaved, but at home, it was the opposite, and it was blamed on "learning bad habits from that shit you're reading".

Because I couldn't read at home, I spent all my free time at school in the library, reading with my friends.

When I grew up and moved away, I realized that my family life was toxic and abusive, and the "attitudes" I was being punished for were standing up for myself, standing up for my younger siblings, and resisting actual, real-life psychological abuse. Because I'd learned from what I'd read that my family wasn't normal, not like my parents said it was, and in my stories, the heroes were the people who spoke out when it was hard to.

It is insane to me that there are students right now who can't access books. It is insane that books are being outlawed. It is perverse that we are stealing away an entire generation's ability to contextualize their lives, to learn about the world around them, to develop critical thinking skills and express themselves and feel connected to the world or escape from it, whatever and whenever and however they need.

That is not how you raise a compassionate, thoughtful, powerful society.

That's how you process cattle.

It's fucking disgusting.

DPXDC prompt: Friendly neighborhood forensic pathologist Danny Fenton is a new master of The Court of Owls? (Dead on main, of course) +Part 2: Talon Dick

Don’t underestimate what a ghost will do for a higher education. You see, it's the custom of the Fenton family not to run away from things they are afraid of but to face their fear. So Danny Fenton, who has learned to fear scalpels, steel clamps and surgical retractors, decides to do something about it and to dedicate his life to giving souls of those who died a violent death the final rest and justice they deserve.

Well, it didn’t really come to him at once. It started out as a simple joke:

Danny didn’t think he could continue his education after school. Frankly, his grades suck. However, Tucker for fun applied for a scholarship for gifted villains from Gotham University on his behalf.

And hell, they are willing to pay money for his education. Pay in full! Living in Park Row is also incredibly cheap. And with his flying ability, he’ll also save on transportation.

Danny is not a villain. And he’s not planning on becoming one. But he couldn’t lose that chance.

Why do you deserve this scholarship? “My parents are renowned ecto scientists, and I’ve seen their dissection work at its best. Medical school is expensive, and this scholarship will help me accomplish my goal of becoming a forensic pathologist and helping maintain the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead…or use it for my own ends. Of course.”

Well, Mr Two-Face was fully confident that despite his grades in the subjects, Danny was fully committed to achieving high academic achievement. Finally, work experience of Dan came in handy somewhere.

There were only few things about the death that Danny didn’t find on his own or from his ghost friends, so he managed to graduate in record time. Young Fenton thought he was lucky enough to get a job near Crime Alley. It was odd that the job was available. Even a new specialist like him was allowed to work full-time. And the salary was very decent.

Danny: Yes, Jazz, everything is just fine. I found a great job and I’m trying to relax and find a hobby, you know. Started feeding the local birds. Apparently they were abused, the poor things are so shy and aggressive.

Let’s say that a returned Jason as undead cannot be killed for forever. The stab wounds heal quickly, the bullet holes sometimes itch unpleasantly for a few days, but in general his regeneration is at a level with some metahumans. This is convenient. But when Red Hood wakes up in the morgue after a particularly severe injury, he’s not happy. Sometimes even looking in the mirror at his dissection scar is difficult for him. And this situation is a fucking nightmare. Danny: Oh. Are you awake now? I’m sorry I didn’t have time to put you on the couch, I didn’t have clean sheets and my assistant would have killed me because of the new stains. Red Hood: What the hell? I’m sorry?! It’s fucked up! I’d love to see you wake up on the dissection table. Danny: Been there Done that. But hey, I didn’t put you there. You didn’t get here on my shift, give me a break.

Jason: …So, what's now? Danny: Well, I can offer you tea or coffee. Of course, only after I sew up the hole in your stomach and give you a change of clothes. Or I could go after the documents and pretend I didn’t notice one of my bodies got away. But then don’t dream about novocaine blockade. Pretty liver by the way, you don’t see that much in crime lords. Jason: Um, thank you? But you’re weird. Usually people are praised for the beauty of the face or eyes rather than… Danny: Wow, now I feel attacked.You wake up in your helmet. I can’t compliment what I can’t see. Jason: Gee, I’m surprised your colleague hasn’t taken it off yet. Danny: And lose important evidence? It is not customary for us to put curiosity above professionalism.

Jason learns quickly that although Batman is willing to go anywhere to track him, there are always exceptions to the rule. The morgue was one of them. Not surprisingly, the emotional constipation and uncomfortable theme of Jason’s death worked like a perfect bat repeller. Over time, Jason becomes really interested in a guy who genuinely laughs at his death jokes and listens to his problems at work without judgment. Danny is too cute and nice.

Danny*works*: No visitors allowed here.

Jason: Unless you are a zombie, right?

Danny:...Still not one of your hideouts. The book is where you left it, make some tea if you want it.

Jason, once again delivered without a sign of life to Danny after the fight, woke up during pupillary reflex test.

Jason: Oh, beauty, you are just dazzling today.

Danny: As I thought, your regeneration didn’t cure your concussion before your resurrection. I’ll give you referrals for all the tests and examinations. And we really should stop seeing each other like this. Please take care of yourself.

Jason: I don’t think you have the right to prescribe them to me. Danny: Technically I do not. But we live in Gotham. And for some time the hospital where I work at night is very sensitive to my requests.

Red Hood: And why? Danny: It’s hard to explain… Red Hood: Doctor Handsome, I’ve been through some shit, so try to surprise me. Danny: Okay, okay. Look, you are a crime lord for not too long, right? But criminals and cops are afraid of you and kids and your henchmen really likes you. Jason: ..So what? Danny: Can you please recommend how to maintain a reputation but so your people aren’t afraid of you? Jason: Why do you need this information? Your assistant finally realized you’re friends with walking corpses? Danny: It’s not about that! Although, like.. you aren’t wrong? It’s complicated. I may, well, accidentally, honestly, have seized power over a local secret aristocratic criminal society.

Jason: Baby, please tell me everything. I have a restaurant as a front for a business nearby. It’s a date. Let's go. Danny: Let me finish a few stitches first, Jay.

Red Hood and Red Robin fight near Batman: Hood: Replacement was on patrol without permission! Red Robin: And Jason is dating the new owner of Court of Owls! Batman:.. he's doing WHAT? Jason, how could you take such a risk? it is completely unprofessional and Red Hood: At least he loves me for what’s inside me! Red Robin: Yeah, like a beautiful liver. It’s a great relationship base. Red Hood: I’m talking about my feelings and interests. Dumb lil stalker with a big mouth! I’ll teach you not to bother my boyfriend.

Henchman: Boss. We shouldn’t go into that area, the rumors are that there are Talons here. Red Hood: All under control, they won’t touch us. Henchman: How can you be sure? The poem says 'Beware The Court of Owls, that watches all the time, ruling Gotham from a shadow..' Red Hood: Yeah yeah "speak not a whispered word of them or they'll send The Talon for your head". I’m sleeping with their boss, of course I’m sure. Henchman: Boss, don’t kid like that. Red Hood: I don’t pay you for gossip. Let's go.

Dick, to whom the memories began to return, haunts Jason because he did not cut for Lil Wing apple slices like he likes for lunch: Talon came to finish the job. Henchmen: scream
