Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

i think maybe you asked this one the last time i reblogged this ask meme but there has also been Fic Progression so i also understand lol. but no, not really. a lot of the time i don't even clock something that might read like that until i get comments about it. i am however mean to Karl and Ethan on purpose and so there is probably splash damage from that lol.

(and i'm gonna have to readmore the rest bc it gets long, apologies) What made you start writing?

i don't know when exactly i started, just that i remember putting little books of "stories" together in elementary school. i wrote what i think technically counts as LOTR fanfic and MLP oc fic lmao. but what i mostly wrote was original fiction. a cousin i was close to as a kid was also big into writing and we ended up attending a summer camp for the arts together in middle school, so i was writing mostly poetry there, but prose too. i also started writing fic with another friend in middle/high school (stuff like pokemon crack fic lmao), but i was still mostly writing original fiction. in high school in particular i got BIG into writing poetry (idk if anyone else knows about allpoetry.com but i sure was spending a heck of a lot of time there), was editor of the high school literary magazine, etc etc. basically i was never not writing. i was also posting way more fic in high school, writing primarily angst at that point and largely for Final Fantasy.

then i went to college and stopped writing for a few years barring academic papers. started taking writing seminars the last few semesters i was there which got me writing again. again mostly original fiction. a lot of supernatural stuff, not really poetry anymore though, which is kind of a shame bc of how much i had liked it. started writing fic again too, a lot of Naruto stuff that i never posted anywhere. then my dad of all people got me into Supernatural and i wrote a bunch of fic for that that i also never posted anywhere. then i went to grad school and the "not writing anything except academic papers" thing started up again rip. really didn't pick it up again as a regular practice until after my dad died a few years back. wrote a bunch of stuff about grief that was uhhhhhhhhh pretty clearly me trying to process shit.

and then it was covid and i lost my job and i was watching playthroughs of re7 and re8 almost concurrently going "but what if you put Heisenberg in the swamp WHAT THEN." as for what inspires me, i guess just about everything? like the number of stories i wrote set in Japan after i'd studied abroad there...is a lot. and with fic it's just like "i just think it would be neat if character i like was in a Situation." when i was writing poetry a lot of it was teenage angst bc i was in high school but i'd also write about cities or people or fantasy epics. anyway this is already really long but yeah basically if i think about it for long enough that it becomes "I Just Think They're Neat" territory i'll want to write something about it.

Mia Winters Headcanon:

she doesn't trust easily and has for a long time kept things about herself secret, or lied outright, as a way to protect herself. she'd been doing this long before she met Ethan and then after...it was habit. and it was easy to keep things about her work secret because it did feel like she was protecting him. and it wasn't like it was going to be forever, she was planning on getting out. she was working on it. she hadn't even thought of something like that--a normal life--until she'd met Ethan, and then it had seemed like...like something attainable. there wouldn't be the need for secrets then, when it was just the two of them. (or so she told herself: it's like pulling off her skin, being that exposed, having nothing between herself and someone else. being seen. completely seen.) anyway this got away from me a bit lmao. but basically i like to try to reconcile her going back to lying post-re7 as a defensive move to protect herself, especially when the BSAA knows everything about her past. i don't think she was intentionally trying to hurt Ethan or anything, just that after Dulvey she'd feel ever more the need to have those secrets as a buffer, combined with a deep, deep fear that Ethan would hate her if he knew. (this is how i am personally smoothing down Mr. Capcom's writing decisions.) Jesse Evil West Headcanon: he has had a crush on Edgar since he was a kid and is outright tormented by it. i imagine him taking issue with how his dad treated Edgar. or feeling jealous of Edgar's loyalty to his dad. just let's give Jesse more issues regarding his dad lmao. the little joke he makes in the game about Edgar kissing him is a ""joke"" but like he is internally yelling UNLESS?????? as vehemently as he can.

thinking also about post-game events, how Bloom was joking around with Edgar and Jesse can absolutely get jealous about that too, like just he's a mess and i don't know if it's better (worse) if he has actually confessed to Edgar and was shot down or has just never confessed to Edgar for fear of getting shot down.

and if you want to bring in Jesse's twin (who is also named Jessie i guess we can just give him an extra vowel) i think it's very funny if both of them alternately fight over and tag team Edgar. co-op, as it were.

and oh yeah i totally agree!! trust me, i was an mlp fan during the Brony Era so i have plenty of experience w weird adults in kids fandoms. i think thats why so many ppl are wary of adult bluey fans (ive seen some ppl on twitter calling them "the new bronies") but in my own experience i think bluey fans are MUCH better at keeping the fandom a safe place for kids. a lot of older bluey fans are ppl who fell in love w the show while watching it with their kids, younger relatives, or kids that they may have been babysitting (i first discovered the show while watching it w my baby cousin!!). and while im sure there are bluey fans out there who are inappropriate, i can safely say that it is a MUCH safer community than the early mlpfim one by miles.

and yeah when it comes to the "taking it too seriously" thing ik what u mean, a lot of ppl who like stuff for kids (like bronies for example) will try to put these rly high expectations on the material bc they want to prove that its more Mature than what ppl think. and while i agree that bluey, mlp, and other kids shows CAN have mature moments, sometimes fans get rly carried away w their expectations and subsequently get upset/mad when the show does something that isnt "mature" enough for their standards (i remember bronies getting mad at mlp coloring books for being "too easy" LMAOOO). thats why its important to remember what the shows target audience is while also remembering that theres no shame in liking something thats aimed at kids!! thats how you keep the communities safe while enjoying the source material imo.

and yeah, while there are some bluey fans out there who say stuff like "bluey is better than most modern adult stuff nowadays!!", i dont think that ppl should be mocked for simply having that opinion. bc its just an Opinion, and what someone prefers in media can be very different compared to someone else's preferences. ofc i strongly encourage consuming a wide range of media that appeals to a wide range of audiences, but ppl are still allowed to prefer something thats made for kids over stuff thats for adults. thats just how opinions/subjectivity work!! do what makes u happy but dont be afraid to branch out as well :)

I was watching My Little Pony with my cousin, and there was an episode called The Cutie Map. It's an episode where the main 6 ponies go to a town where everyone has been brainwashed into giving up their talent in order to be completely equal.... imagine the Danganronpa crew. Imagine they're out on a mission, and find a small town populated by Ultimates who have given up their talents to be equal. Imagine them singing "In our town" (song of the episode) to try and convince the crew to join them.

Damn it’s been quite a while since I watched something from MLP. But nice to see that they are still going ^^

When they first learn about how this town operates, most of them are probably quite shocked about it. Some more than others

Nagito would loos it completely, because these people are a disgrace in his eyes and even worse than non-talented people. People who give up on talent and thus give up on hope are worth nothing for him and probably also don’t even qualify as a stepping stool any more

Others like Taka would find them strange but nice enough and would actually praise them for their “great” community and the equality they have

Leon would for the first moment like the mentality that they don’t believe that their talent defines them, however when he learns that he also wouldn’t be allowed to become a rockstart and thus be special in that he starts disliking them again

However when they notice the pressure from everyone to be like them and give up their talent, they would start to feel uncomfortable and distressed. All their lives their talent is what made up their whole personality, so of curse they aren’t really happy with the idea of giving up who they are to be “equal”

Since the people are brainwashed into being “equal” I can see that some of the cast also end up being brainwashed during the time inside of the town and giving up their talents, also pressuring their friends into joining them

The ones who aren’t brainwashed yet would try to make their friends snap out of it and also stop whoever is leading this town

some christmas movie about a reindeer that isn’t rudolph. he’s prancer’s estranged son and not used to his mother marrying some other deer and getting a stepbrother and he gets kidnapped by eagles led by a white wolf who hates santa because he killed her brother i think and the main deer teams up with some loner deer to save his brother and also he can casually fly.

i think it’s a sequel to some other movie bc there’s got to be a reason prancer and forgettable mum deer divorced. for how cheap it looked the backgrounds were surprisingly nice.

keitor - keith/lotor (VLD) - ok so like this ship murdered me it came the fuck out of nowhere about midway through S3 and at the time i was like ‘welp cracky trash ship for me! there’s always one!!’ but then it suddenly Wasn’t around the time S4 came out and it’s not even close to canon but tbh when has that fucking stopped me see the next ship on this list lmaoo

garrosh/jaina (WoW) - canonically, absolutely fucking not because he’s dead and was incredibly shitty, but in AUs? my god i want all the AUs. give them to me. what happened to that one ‘boar and lioness’ rp blog i need it. the aesthetic of this ship slays me every time and there’s so much POTENTIAL.

tidus and yuna (FFX) - LISTEN. listen. ffx was both my first FF game and my first RPG. it was my third videogame after pokemon and spyro. i had literally never seen this kind of thing before. little eleven year old me was so invested in these two that when they kissed i was sobbing. ‘suteki da ne’ still kicks me in the heart as does pretty much every song on the ost. i will defend every awkward translation or dialogue to the death. (and i will call him ‘teedus’ the day i say ‘jif’) (THE STORY REVOLVES AROUND THE OCEAN AKA CHANGING TIDES AKA TIDE-US FUCK YOU)

Top 3 Familial Ships:

magdeline and biggs (WoW) - ocs are cool right. anyway. both undead. both worgen. magdeline is the literal official deathlord of acherus. biggs is... not. he’s huge but he’s incredibly clumsy. they met when he failed miserably on his assignment during the destruction of the scarlet enclave and magdeline ended up rescuing him. she took him under her wing to save him from razuvious after being inspired by thassarian and koltira and they’ve stuck together ever since. in cata and with the return of gilneas to the alliance (sort of) biggs managed to track down his still living family but was soundly rejected. so did magdeline, who was only able to find her sister. biggs sort of wonders if magdeline would’ve kept him around if mackoire had accepted magdeline. the answer is absolutely. mackoire might be her older sister but biggs is magdeline’s little brother.

kolivan and keith (vld) - kolivan is doing his damn well best to keep keith alive the finale of S4 was not kolivan’s fault. just getting that out of the way. but yeah anyway. i live for keith getting a father figure alongside shiro (like the fact that kolivan is introduced and he and keith can connect before shiro vanishes is one of my favourite things because kolivan isn’t filling a void he’s just helping keith explore a new piece of his identity). and i live for kolivan taking a personal interest in the newest recruit and accompanying him on missions and by god just tell him about his mother if she was a blade already ;;;;;;;;

farkas and the dragonborn ‘diego’ (skyrim) - oc again. i’m pretty sure that farkas is everyone’s bro in skyrim but fuck it he’s diego’s bro the most. she want ballistic when his other brothers and sisters in arms insulted him and brawled them into submission, when they’d barely known each other a day and he wasn’t even in earshot at the time. she cured his lycanthropy without question, securing his soul a place in sovngarde. she trusts him to protect her beloved wife and children and home. he was her first friend in whiterun and she’ll never forget that.

Top 3 Human & Animal Companion (Platonic Soulmate) Ships:

valcia and eleanor (wow) - ocs again lol can’t stop won’t stop. eleanor the white devilsaur is valcia the blood elf’s most trusted companion, from pretty much the beginning. when valcia came of age just prior to the rediscovery of pandaria she made her way down to un’goro crater, surviving one of the fiercest jungles on azeroth as a sort of ‘skip the frying pan let’s jump into the volcano’ thing. there she found eleanor, trapped in a tar pit. initially she considered putting the poor thing out of her misery, but there was something in those bright eyes that made her put the bow away and use what little magic she knew (and rope) to pull the devilsaur free. she expected her to run away or try to attack once the tar had been cleaned off and she recovered her strength, but neither happened. instead, she just followed valcia around the entire crater, not too close but never too far away. one night her sleep was interrupted by vile chittering and silithid carapaces being crushed. when she investigated she found the devilsaur trying to fend them off - the two of them fought at each other’s side until daybreak and all of the bugs were dead. valcia treated the devilsaur’s wounds and after that they were inseparable. she’s loyally battled alongside valcia against gods, demons and everything in between, she’s crossed dimensions, planets, even timelines alongside her with little to ask in return except a chin rub and maybe a nice kodo haunch. it’s eleanor’s judgement of someone that matters most to valcia and she’s the only family valcia needs. i love them i could write more but that’s getting into nitty gritty wow lore lel.

i actually can’t think of any that i’m as emotionally invested in as these two lol so i’ll leave it at that

idk nostalgic pony rambling sorry

so recently when I was sick and bed/couch-bound I watched netflix and in the sick state I wanted something chill to watch so for nostalgias sake I put on the first season of mlp which I haven’t seen in like 4 years or whatever. also watched the second and third season, which was as far as I got back when I was still in the fandom or whatever.

I used to be so into that stuff and it was so nice to watch it again, such a cute series my gosh.

kinda makes me wanna draw ponies again, but at the same time I don’t wanna join the fandom again or whatever? IDK it’s been a long time and I’ve missed out on too much to muster up any will to bother lol.

I wasn’t even that far into it back then either, pretty much all I did and was “known” for was drawing cute ship art vector things of Applejack and Pinkie Pie, heck ye ApplePie/PinkieJack was my jam ha. FlutterDash was always a close second but I never really did much of that ah well.

applepie was always a small ship back then though people did enjoy my stuff and it did get some love. though I guess since then there was that one ep that implies they might be distantly related so people stopped? haven’t watched the ep yet myself though probs will soon, but as far as I’ve understood it from what I’ve read it was never confirmed, and even if they were to be related it would be so distant it wouldn’t matter anyways (4th cousins twice removed by a 5th cousin something like that). idk still need to watch it but after all this time I’m pretty sure I won’t care or whatevs ha.

idk where I’m going with this, just felt like wordbarfing some I guess lol.

might start watching past season 3 soon, it’s gonna be all new stuff for me past that point. kinda exciting yet spooky lol. might end up doodling ponies again if it’s motivating enough, though chances are just as high I won’t so no idea abt anything atm.

ponies aside though I just need to get around to drawing something in general, haven’t gotten around to it much at all recently and for that I am sorry. even though I still ofc love it fnaf has kinda fallen to the side currently yet nothing has replaced it motivation-wise so rn it’s just eh in general. will try to get around to drawing something soon hopefully, no idea what but hopefully something lol.

 "Artemis, come sit with me.  How was your day?"  The young heir of the night walked in, deliberate and dignified as they had seen their mother present herself many times before.  For one as small as them, it took considerable willpower for the loving mother to not coo and fuss as her elder sister did over her Iridescence (much to Chrysalis' protest).  Artemis was a proud child, and Luna would honor that, even as she toddled over with her chest puffed in a cloud of feathers and settled down next to her.  "T'was a pleasant day, Mother.  My classes were quite informative, mealtimes were satisfying, and I only had to recover one book from my infant cousin."  Luna nodded in approval before her horn lit with magic and retrieved a carefully-sealed envelope, presenting it to a now-curious foal.  "I am pleased to hear as much.  Do you know what today is?"  Artemis rolled their eyes, despite how undignified it was, but they couldn't hold in their exasperation.  "Hearts and Hooves Day," they muttered with a tinge of disgust.  "I know.  I received some pink and lacy notes from some of my peers, everything was covered in crude hearts, and the sight of couples was abundant...  Although I did enjoy receiving your chocolates this morning.  Thank you, Mother."  Their attention once again turned to the envelope, bearing a familiar seal on aged paper.  "Why do you ask?"  Luna's smile turned gentle, a touch of sorrow in her eyes as she remembered her dear love and the care he took to write each special letter.  "Your father wanted to tell you something special, just as he does each time your birthday comes and he had advice he had the foresight to write to you."  Though Artemis had become familiar with this tradition by now, they were a little vexed by the timing.  A letter from Father?  On Hearts and Hooves Day?  What could be so special about this silly "holiday" where ponies practically tripped over their own hooves to court each other?    With delicate precision, their mother's magic opened the envelope and set it down, pulling out the folded parchment within.  Artemis was a quick study in their reading and writing, but they still struggled with longer words.  Still, they valiantly took hold of the letter in their mother's place and began to read the contents out loud after clearing their throat. "Dearest Artemis,  I can only imagine how much you've grown over the short years that have been the beginning of your life.  Indeed, the childhood is simul...  sim-ul-tan-ee-ous-ly a long journey to live through and all too short for those that watch you grow.  One word springs to mind when I think of you and how you will grow and learn and experience the world; Love.  It is a simple word, easy to use and say to others from family to friends to suitors, and yet it conveys so much.  There is... pass...  pash-ohn-ate love; hot and fiery, pushing one forward past all obstacles to take what you want and hold it like a jealous dragon's treasure.  There is brotherly love; steadfast and loyal to those who you place all trust in.  Then, there is unconditional love, and it is by far the most powerful.  This love does not see shortcomings or mistakes, it does not grow jealous or bitter.  It is enduring and eternal, unbreakable, and constant.    My child, this is the love I feel for you.  Though I know I can only hope that you understand what I mean and truly take my words to heart, I want you to never doubt that, even without meeting you, I love you, only as a proud father can.  Do not shun love, my little one.  Embrace it, unafraid and unashamed.  Love is truly what life is worth living for. With all my heart, Happy Hearts and Hooves Day -Daedalus "  Luna's eyes were hot and watery, though she kept quiet as Artemis proudly read through the whole letter.  She could hear his voice again, through her child, as the words flowed, and she missed him.  She missed her dear friend, that kindred soul.  Despite themself, Artemis' mouth spread to a smile, chest puffing out and reading over the words again to herself.  Luna nuzzled her pride and joy, quietly saying "Happy Hearts and Hooves Day". Hoo boy, this took a bit to draw out, mostly because I couldn't quite decide on how to pose.  When folks think of Valentine's Day, one can't help but think about couples kissing, giving chocolates and other surprises, all in the name of courtship.  However, love isn't simply romantic, and perhaps can be hardest to acknowledge with those that have passed away.  But I'm gonna start rambling if I go on, so I'll just say that I like how this came out.   Except the background; it's supposed to be pink, but the scanner picked it up as yellow.  NO idea why. XD This is a piece for Lopoddity 's contest, using Luna of MLP: FiM and her OC, Artemis.
