Regulus who puts together that Remus Lupin is a werewolf. His insomnia causing him to spend his nights in the Slytherin common room's entry. A hot chocolate and a battered copy of Alice in Wonderland in hand as he occasionally gazes out the low window. A menagerie consisting of a stag, a mouse, and what looked to be the grim ran down to the Whomping Willow. Sipping as he then saw Madam Pomfrey half-carrying a ghastly looking Remus. Not even needing to check the sky to know it was a full moon. Regulus always found it odd that their astronomy lessons never coincided with one. Bestowed with the secret that his brother was hiding, and how far the Marauders would go for one of their own, he wanted in. Where else would he find the perfect excuse to become an animagus?

Casting a concealment charm on himself, he walked down to the herbology classroom. Taking a few attempts to discern which one held the mandrake from the current week’s lesson. Regulus made sure to put a pair of earmuffs on as he didn’t want to be found dead on the floor. Retracing his steps as he returned, casting a sticking charm once he placed the leaf in his mouth. It’d give him an entire month to figure out the rest of the process needed to turn into an animagus. Regulus didn’t plan on registering as one once he completed the task. If the precious Marauders can get away with it, why can’t he? Thus he spends hours in the library, hiding his research as simple homework.

'What are you up to dear brother?' Sirius mutters to himself.

'Thank you so much for agreeing to this.' Regulus told Professor Slughorn, taking the classroom key from him. 'No troubles. Now I'll be back later in the evening, you can just place the key along the door sill when you leave.' Regulus nodded, watching until the potions professor left the accompanying hallway. Downing the blood-red liquid after the last 'Amato animo animato animagus' left his lips. 'Ugh, that's vile. Only have to do it once though.' Regulus let out a groan of pain, his bones shifting into some form of quadruped. Hair of some sort shooting from every pore. 'Hopefully, this gets easier.' Regulus thought to himself.

‘Alright, who lost their cat this time?’ James asked, plopping the black cat into Sirius’ lap. ‘Huh, you like that kitty-cat?’ Regulus wanted to laugh so badly, but all he could do is purr as Sirius found the right spot behind his ear to scratch. ‘Oi, don’t jinx it now!’ James chastised Remus when the werewolf doubted that the night would go smoothly. ‘We’ve been doing this for 2-3 years now. Yea, stuff can go wrong but you’ll tire yourself out.’ As jealous as Regulus was, he was also touched at how much they cared about one another. Thus he watched, learning their routine.

‘Hey there lovely, that for me?’ Remus asked, seeing the black cat nudge a cup of tea towards him. The liquid somehow not sloshing over. ‘How’d you know the way I like my tea?’ And Remus questioned if he saw the cat shrug or if that was just his mind playing tricks on him. ‘Are you talking to the cat again?’ James sat down across from him, scratching Regulus’ head as he past, rubbing against James’ leg. ‘Gotta find your owner eventually.’ Regulus hoped they’d forget about that despite not wearing a collar. The Marauders adored the cat’s company but they had to remind themselves that the cat didn’t belong to them.

‘Hello Reggie.’ Sirius had figured out why the green eyed cat seemed familiar to him. It didn’t make sense to him. Countless hours spent thinking about it and he was still asking himself what Regulus got out of all this. ‘I know it’s you, shift back.’ Ugh, fine, if you insist brother. Regulus rolling his shoulders & cracking his neck. Standing back on two legs. ‘They don’t.’ His voice gruff from not using it. 'Then how have you avoided questions of where you go during the day?' Sirius gaze hardened, his questions coming across more akin to an interrogation. 'I tell them I'm in the library, they truly are dumber than they look.'

'Why have you been hanging out with us then? Not that I mind, honestly. It's the only question I've been unable to answer.' The elder registering how exhausted his little brother looked, a muted-ness to his every action. 'Because I'm in love with your friend, the werewolf.' Refusing to look at Sirius, expecting hostility. 'You like Remus?'

'Well, yeah. It's why I became an animagus. That and I was jealous of your friend group, how chummy you all are with each other.' His voice small as he admitted how lonely he'd been. 'I guess I approve, but you do know Remus has to know you actually exist for it to work, right? Not as a cat, but as Regulus.'

'Oi! I'm not that daft.'

It's weird sometimes to look back at around this time in 2011, and writing crackfic with Loki and Darcy bonding over being adopted and him just like showing up in her apartment unannounced and the two of them watching How To Train Your Dragon. because, you know--crack.

There's an epic fuckton of me rambling about STUFF behind the Read More, about Thor, about Loki, and about the process of writing Simple, Not Easy and the delight of seeing where the characters have ended up in canon in the 10+ years since.

When I started writing Simple, Not Easy, all I had to build on was the Thor movie and the Avengers trailer and the comics. okay and the encouragement of folks on livejournal particularly from the Darcy community and the kinkmeme folks actually.

So yeah, my Loki killed people and was scary as fuck. But he also did things like bring the statues of Alice in Wonderland in Central Park to life to fight the Avengers just for the lolz.

But what's been interesting is seeing the Darcy and Loki that I saw in my head and whose speech patterns I had mimiced and wrote insane and silly and heartbreaking and stubbornly genuine appear in these little flashes in WandaVision and Loki.

They're just these little moments where I'm like you know what, I did a half-decent job, building off of not a heck of a lot, but still somehow being true to their voices.

that doesn't happen all the time. in fact it's pretty fucking rare to see the characters 10+ years later and still recognise them.

But that's part of why Thor is my favourite MCU movie. Because all of the characters really strongly drawn with unique voices, and excellent storytelling where you knew who these people were from the first second they showed up on screen.

Like, specifically look at Jane Foster who is like 'look at him he'll be fine. you go take him to the hospital, I'll stay here and SCIENCE'. I mean we're not even getting into the part where you do not go out into the middle of the desert in New Mexico and drop somebody off in the middle of the night and then come back for them later because coyotes and coyotes and also other things but mostly coyotes.

But the biggest thing I love about the movie is that it's about ego death. It is only when Thor loses everything that he begins to genuinely change. And it's not because of Jane, or even midgard itself. It's because when Loki tells him that their father is dead and Frigga will not end his banishment, Thor accepts responsibility for his actions and it sets in that he has lost everything and that he deserved it for breaking the hardwon peace with Laufey because he has grown up on epic tales of his father's prowess as a warrior and completely missed what Odin was actually trying to teach him about the horrors of war.

The humility that he displays, the empathy, is completely new. Because the guy who was banished to Earth was banished for a very good reason--he was a complete douche canoe. Total spoiled dick and he wasn't ready to be king. He really wasn't, and the way Loki went about trying to prove that was the worst possible way he could have and everything rapidly spiraled out of his control until it became something too big and it began controlling him instead of him controlling it.

But at the same time you have Loki also going through a form of ego death because he finds out that not only is he not who he thought he was he's not what he thought he was. He's not even a person, according to the way that the æsir view jötnar. and you know that internalised self-hatred is on its own pretty dangerous but when you weaponise it and decide to commit genocide then yes it's absolutely right for your father to be like WHAT THE FUCK because he saw everything. I don't think Loki really processed the fact that his dad saw absolutely everything he had done up to an including Thor's death at the hands of the Destroyer and it was only by accepting that he had treated his brother pretty much like shit and bore some responsibility for what was going on and then sacrificing himself for others that made Thor worthy.

And that's what the series is giving Loki the chance to discover: what it's like to act selflessly. He genuinely puts Sylvie's well-being above his own. He acknowledged the importance of the lives of all of the people in the TVA and his responsibility to them because of the results of his actions.

He's owning his shit. He's doing the work.

And as someone who spent a huge chunk of autumn 2011 writing Loki coming to a place where he was able to actually own his shit, and accept responsibility for his actions and even entertain the idea of change, it's really cool seeing that even though I took a vastly different road to get there, I was on the right track.

(and okay yeah like at least 50% of the story is also about Darcy and Clint figuring their shit out and then start banging like a screen door in a hurricane which obviously is not the way the movies went. But again I was working off of the 2 minutes of Clint Barton that's in Thor. To be fair, there's more character development for Clint Barton in those two minutes in Thor than there was in the entirety of the Avengers. and the only thing that actually redeemed bringing in the storyline from Ultimates to bring in his family just to fridge them was the way the Hawkeye series made them into real people instead of your average superhero tragic backstory.)

anyway I know that the current generation of Loki fans almost certainly have never heard of Simple, Not Easy and they sure as hell haven't read it and why would they? It's not cool or sexy or even particularly violent. It's ridiculous and cracky and has Loki shape shifting into a baby sloth and falling asleep while hugging a bottle of Goldschläger like a teddy bear.

But I had a moment, after the drunken singing on the train, where I thought yep. That's my Loki.

This moments are precious and rare and really freaking cool when they do come along.

WIP introduction : Teacups and Ticking Clocks. (TW: mentions of schizophrenia, delusions, narcolepsy and ADHD)

This is my newest WIP (it's literally only a couple days old) but I treasure it with all my heart, honestly I don't know why I just do. Kinda similar to Aurabreak, it's very different to my other WIPs. This time it isn't because of the audience though, it's because of the genre.

Unlike most of my WIPs, Teacups and Ticking Clocks isn't really a fantasy novel, despite being inspired by fantasy. As the name might have suggested, it's a moderen day parody of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll. Also, it isn't by any means a one for one parody, a lot of the stuff has been changed, such as relationships between characters amd the overall story. I also added some extra characters as well ;D

Since it isn't Fantasy, there isn't much world building to cover so I'm probably gonna dive into the characters cause well, I feel like it.

Alicia Lennings (Alice) - Alicia is an 18 year old girl with diagnosed schizophrenia. She lives with her older sister Lori, older brother Garrett and one of his boyfriends Derrick. Her parents work away from home (a different city) so she doesn't see them too often. Alicia currently attends Silver Creek Community College and studies Media Studies, History and Art there. Her, Bianca and Chester often visit Grey's tea shop together. Alicia also has appointments with Dr. Caroll twice a week.

Bianca Harely (White Rabbit) - Bianca is extremely shy, though fiercely protective of those she loves. Like her girlfriend Alicia, she is 18 years old and attends Silver Creek, where she is studying Psychology, English (Literature and Language) and French. She also loves to write poetry, though she would be sooo embarrassed if anyone actually read it. Which is kinda a problem since it's what she's planning on pursuing a career in.

Chester Kade (Cheshire Cat) - Chester may not be the most academically minded but they try their best. They're a little older than the other members of the main trio (19 years old) but are still at college due to having to redo a year. They are ultimate chaotic neutral energy but are always there for their friends. The courses they're studying at Silver Creek are drama, geography and law.

Rosalind Heartman (Queen of hearts) - Rosalind (or Rosa for short) is 18 and attends Silver Creek, like the main trio. She studies food and nutrition, art, film studies and drama. However, she finds them (and almost anyone else who is different ) as far lesser than herself and those few whom she holds in high regards. Rosa often expresses her distain to those around her, especially Alicia, who she often calls crazy and other ableist insults.

Grey Conwell ('Mad' Hatter) - Grey is older than most of the main characters, not by much though, he is 21. Throughout his teenage years, he apprenticed at a small tea house. When he graduated, he ended up buying the shop when it was up for sale. It is now known simply is "Grey's Hat and Tea Emporium" as he also sells hats he creates. Grey has ADHD and like Alicia has sessions with Dr. Caroll, though his are only once weekly. He's also in a polyamorous relationship with Garrett and Derrick.

Mars Harely (March Hare) - Mars is Bianca's younger cousin. He is best friends with Dorine and the two are pretty much inseparable. He doesn't attend Silver Creek College since he only just turned 16 (he goes to the local high school instead) but he does work a couple of weekend shifts at Grey's.

Dorine Abbot (Dormouse) - Dorine is a sixteen year old, who like her friend Mars works part time at Grey's when she is not in school. When Dorine is on shift, there always has to be someone extra working with her, just incase anything happens due to her narcolepsy.

Dr C. Caroll. - Dr Caroll is a psychiatrist originally from a small village in Cheshire. He has many clients, though out of the main cast he works with Alicia, Bianca and Grey (who was the one who first told Alicia of him). He is a kind and gentle man, who is always very patient with his clients.

I think that's pretty much all for now!

Also, now that this monster of a post is done, I can get back to answering asks and tags! :D

Books that remind me of my girlhood:

I encourage other people who consider themselves coquettes to make a list like this! It’s very refreshing to see the books that personally have a meaning and coquette vibes in regards to celebrating girlhood. And faunlets can do this too! Anyone can :)

1. Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

This book was a fantastical escape from the strict world of grownups and rules and logic. It is both nonsensical to my mind and yet it makes perfect sense to my soul. It is the stuff of dreams, and this book definitely defined a good deal of what I acknowledge as my girlhood today. I related with Alice because I too naturally saw the world through the lenses of my own delusions and fantasies. Sometimes this caused me joy and sometimes this caused me great anxiety.

2. Entwined by Heather Dixon

This book is very niche and underrated. I think it is a beautiful and very loose retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, and Heather Dixon’s charming storytelling was why I read it again and again. Azalea (the main character) is both threatened and intrigued by the possibilities of her coming of age. She finds a magical passageway that leads to a garden of silver and pearls and ice, and at the center of the garden is a pavilion where her and her sisters can dance in secret (because their father has forbidden dancing). However this tale takes a dark turn, and Azalea realizes she may have made a fatal mistake of dragging her sisters into a dark world of evil magic and deception. I love the sister dynamics in this book!

3. Labyrinth by A.C.H. Smith

Of course, y’all know I had to include this one! It DEFINED my childhood and reading it today I noticed lots of things that I hadn’t noticed as a kid. First off, we have the parallel between Sarah and Jareth and Sarah’s (birth) mom and the man she chose to be with over her own child. Sarah is offered a similar deal with Jareth, giving up her baby brother to essentially have her dreams and probably be with Jareth (the latter part is implied). It’s a story about immaturity and selfishness, as well as growth from a teen girl’s perspective. It also (like Alice In Wonderland) has a mind-boggling fantasy world and lots of unique characters.

Isekai itself isn’t a bad concept, “person ends up in another fantastical world” is a pretty timeless tale and one I write about a lot. (Without the icky aspects.) Alice in Wonderland and the Wizard of Oz are examples of those kind of story. However, the current trend of “isekai anime” tend to be really gross and filled with fanservice. It really disappoints me because I love fantasy but it feels difficult to come across a (recent) anime in a fantasy anime without that kind of stuff. But my favorite “isekai” series is Digimon Adventure, it’s kid-friendly and filled with wonder. I wish the trend of messed-up isekai will end soon.

Yeah! Isekai isn't a bad idea per se, because:

You get to start your life anew and finally find people who'll understand and connect with you;

You can learn that magic skill you've always dreamed of when you were a kid;

You can make some decent amount of money for a living;

You can explore the new world's culture and contribute to it (or maybe change it if needed!);

You can be praised and rewarded for your efforts, and the relationships that are developed feel earned;

However, Isekai gets quite the bad rep because:

Same old boring european architeture/culture;

It's always either the male revenge fantasy or the female "reborn-as-a-villainess" one;

The transportation method feels a teensy-weensy like suicide glorification (i.e.: Being run over by a truck);

Inhumane activities like slavery and rape are normalized (and even encouraged!);

Relationships are shoehorned, instead of developed throughout the journey.

Isekai has its potential constantly squandered for the sake of boring cishet male fantasies! It's really sad! Miyazaki was right: Anime was a mistake; it's nothing but trash.

The only recent Isekais that I've actually enjoyed were Isekai Ojisan, about a nerdy SEGA-loving uncle who wakes up from a coma, takes a trip down memory lane during his years in another world, and attempts to show off his powers on YouTube...

and TenTen Kakumei, about a rebellious lesbian princess born without powers who utilizes science to achieve magic (and bags a cute girlfriend by taking her away from her shitty brother).

And now that I think about it, Super Mario Bros. can be also categorized as an Isekai thanks to the movie (I mean, it always was one, but the games retconned it).

You have characters from Earth, who find a mystic portal to another world and are trying to get back home, but get themselves more acquainted with the new world by the end of it. Not to mention the gigantic implication of other worlds beyond the one they discovered just now. Romance is there, sure, but like, it's vaguely implied with much more attention being given to the fraternal bond between the protagonists.

It's so much easy to write Isekai concepts that aren't just sexual fantasies (not that there isn't anything wrong with sexual fantasies, but please, can you guys STOP normalizing rape and slavery?!)

Ok I’m genuinely curious… can you like explain Gaylors? It’s like usually even if I don’t get something I can see how people got there but that is not the case here. ok i will try to answer this accessibly 🙏 without delving into her personal life and focusing more on lyrical analysis because it's more interesting <3 and less invasive & takes into account that there is always an element of storytelling to songwriting that will beget themes and so on, without always aligning directly with the truth because...it's a story <3

let's get into it!!

i'd like to start with how she repeatedly comes back to this hidden, forbidden love that she can't let anyone know about. this is a recurring theme on basically every album, and while some of it is because of the media attention and investigations on her & her relationships….

i know places that we can hide and they'll be chasing their tails trying to track us down

outside, they're pushing & shoving; everyone's up to something / you're in the kitchen humming, all that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing

make sure nobody sees you leave, keep your hood up and your head down / that's the thing about illicit affairs

no deal, that 1950s shit they want from me / all they see is a one night or a wife / i just wanna stay in this lavender haze (a song she specifically said was about rumors she loathed, which as an interesting aside, the internet took to mean gaylors until the album came out)

some of it relies a little too heavily on the "this is something BAD/secret that CANNOT be discovered" with full religious imagery to boot

there's her repeated instances of "writing from a man's perspective" i.e. betty, the man; which is interesting when in Dear Reader she refers to herself as "a fourth drink in my hand, these desperate prayers from a cursed man" & it's worth noting that this album leaned heavily on the grief of being unknowable to ANYONE and going home alone everyday, even when she....had a boyfriend but i digress because we're getting away from literary analysis. it's worth nothing that evermore also included ivy, which is about how one of the bronte sisters stole their brother's wife

interestingly, she also capitalizes certain letters in the songbooks sent out with physical CDs. some fun ones to note include WHEN I SAW YOU IN HYIANNIS PORT (specifically spelled incorrectly to match the letters of dianna agrons name; dianna also had an alice in wonderland tattoo on her ribs that she got lasered off after Wonderland was released). there are other, similar instances of this.

then there's the things that just plain...don't sound like they're about a man because of the words she uses. not a trump card, but certainly an interesting cherry on top

hello sara! would you give some book recs? ive been trying to find new stuff to read . i read the carnivorous lamb bc of you and loved it endlessly

hii! honestly there's nothing like the carnivorous lamb but i can try. when it comes to writing about the spanish civil war, which believe it or not is my favorite part of the carnivorous lamb, my favorite writer is ana maría matute, idk how easy it would be to find translations of her work, but i really recommend the los mercaderes trilogy which according to wikipedia are translated as school of the sun, soldiers cry by night and the trap.

the only other book i've read about brother incest is twins by bari wood which i also really liked, it's the book cronenberg based dead ringers on. i've also read really good things of querelle of brest by jean genet, but i haven't read it yet nor have i watched the movie so idk.

another book that reminds me of the carnivorous lamb is el sur by adelaida garcía morales, but this is based on vibes more than anything else. and then of course i recommend you give other agustín gómez-arcos books a chance.

when it comes to my favorite books just like in general i always feel like the list is very basic and you will have read it all, but in case not it's: wuthering heights by emily brontë, alice in wonderland by lewis carroll, stone butch blues by leslie feinberg, house of incest by anaïs nin and the goldfinch by donna tartt.

also i am of course currently really enjoying pussy, king of the pirates by kathy acker and i recently read cain by josé saramago and also loved it very much.

Some Ep 3 Live Action One Piece Thoughts

I have to say... I'm not in love with this episode. But to be honest, I didn't love the whole Syrup Village/Kuro adventure in the anime either so...

I'm just gonna break it down like I've been doing. Negatives/Meh reactions first, save the good stuff for last.

To start... I'm still holding out hope for Coby and Helmeppo becoming friends. I feel like it's pretty central to both their characters and surely that's one thing Oda would have fought for, right? They're both still getting plenty of screen time, but Garp almost seems to be pitting them against each other. And I'm not feeling that right now. I feel like that friendship breakthrough could still be coming... I do want to see Helmeppo redeemed, show that there's more to him at heart than just the spoiled brat we've gotten to know... and I'm hoping to see it soon.

Episode 3 is really visually dark. Most scenes were kind of muted. I'm not a fan of that kind of style in general, but I especially wasn't feeling it during the scenes where they're inside the mansion, having a party. What we saw of Kaya's mansion in the anime was so big and light and airy... The live action's take on it feels like some kind of evil funhouse.

But the big reason I may not feel totally satisfied by this episode may just be because it's the first one that doesn't resolve its conflict in one episode. This episode ends with everyone in a pretty dire place. Kuro won't be properly confronted and defeated until the next one. (I assume. But with the pace this series has been keeping, I can't imagine it stretching out to episode 5.)

A couple of the good points feel a little marred by 'meh' feelings.

Okay. Listen. I know this is a tiny, tiny detail. But it's bothering me that they didn't also dye Celeste Loots's eyebrows blonde. It's not bothering me on the other characters who have crazier hair colors but... Don't get me wrong! She's really killing it as Kaya in every other aspect. I think she's perfectly captured that inner spark and strength Kaya has while definitely coming across as frail and sickly... But something about her doesn't look wispy enough. Kaya practically looked like a ghost. Someone who had all the life-- and thus, color-- sucked out of her. I would have liked to see something more to that effect in her live action appearance.

I know I've already talked about the way they've portrayed her mansion. But it's not just that the lighting's been lackluster. Some of the colors are also weirdly garish in places. Especially the scene where they first all meet in the garden, I got the weirdest... Alice in Wonderland vibes. I don't think that's a bad thing. It just feels a little strange. Also. Kuro's lackeys. The Meowban Brothers. Something about the way they've been brought to life... I can't be the only one getting 2003 Cat in the Hat vibes, right????? That's so weirdly fitting. I have a hard time believing it's a coincidence. It's another thing that, like, I don't think I hate it... but I don't know if I like it.

Finally, I really liked seeing Nami and Kaya bond. Nami gets this particular look when it's revealed that Kaya's parents are dead that was a really great little detail. Their talk really gave the audience a chance to see that there was some depth to Kaya, which was also great. I'm just not sure how I feel about how it came about. It feels like a pretty important detail that Nami's not just a thief... she steals from pirates specifically. Up until the point she officially becomes one herself, that is. There's an integrity to that that the live action hasn't preserved. While I'm totally fine with a lot of the other changes they've made, I don't think I'm on board with that one. It just doesn't feel necessary.

But despite my overall meh feelings towards this episode, there are a lot of entirely unblemished good points in episode 3.

I do still think the way it's coming together is really great. That they all meet on the day of Kaya's 18th birthday, accidentally walking right into the climax of Kuro's schemes to take over her fortune. Perfect.

That her fortune is the fact that Syrup Village is known for its shipbuilding in this version... also really great. Gives our characters more of a reason to be there, for one. Also just gives the place a little more flavor.

It hasn't really come up yet that Usopp's got kind of a blemish on his life. A father who ran off to be a pirate. But his running through the village, crying wolf about pirates day after day really hits different in a live action. A villager literally pulls him aside, tells him he's pathetic and that he's wasting his life and... ouch. That was surprisingly brutal.

But I feel like Usopp is very much a cartoon character. There's a lot about him that would struggle to fly in a more realistic live-action. So I'm really pleased to say that Jacob Romero Gibson is also really killing it in his role. We are 4 for 4 on great casting for the Straw Hats. Something about the way he delivers his lies... They're still outrageous claims, but there's something so casual and sincere about the way he tells them... And I really love that this episode ends with Usopp running into Coby and Helmeppo when no one else will believe him about there being real pirates this time. Goes back to this tweaked version of the story all coming together really nicely. I'm really interested to see what role they'll end up playing in that conflict.

And I like that Arlong's being established as a more overarching villain of this arc, and pulling Buggy along with him. I could spend another 12 paragraphs speculating on all the places that could go, but I'll spare you.

I have high hopes for episode four!

So I've been INSANELY busy lately and just caught up on everything from Chapter 4 on, and I stg I am FERAL right now. So, as a fellow writer, I decided to compile a review for each chapter.

Chapter 4 - Alex Burgess deserves to suffer everything Penny had been made to live through and more. I would very much like to tuck Penny in a blanket and give her cocoa and cuddles.

Chapter 5 - The way he MOURNS her! The way his every other thought is her! The way he adores her so clearly despite not having ever even spoken to her! Also, I love the idea of Johanna as a friend.

Chapter 6 - All of the Endless (Including the Prodigal) AND Mother Night checking in on Penny throughout the years is so fucking sweet to me? Like "Dream cannot guide you now, and we cannot free him, but we love him, as do you. And for that we love you the same." It's just amazing! They aren't a standard family but they still love one another so much.

Chapter 7 - That line about knowing why Lucifer was gods favorite is so smooth, lmao. Dream's introspection on why Nada wouldn't suit as his wife was also cute as hell (pardon the pun.) The gentle way he cares for her is everything, too. The commentary about his battle leathers is 100% accurate, too. He had NO right to look that good.

Chapter 8 - Penny, who has lived easily a hundred years, meeting John, who believes it's his right to force others to live in only the harsh light of truth, was fascinating. I'm also getting such strong Alice In Wonderland vibes from Destiny's maze conversation. And Dream's own protectiveness of Penny is heartwarming. And the way she can shape and revitalize the dreaming is so cool!

Overall - I also love the continuing motif of butterflies with Penny, especially since the name Penelope means 'weaver', as in "One who weaves a new path". This is just such a brilliant story. His willingness to help her and protect her is just everything to me. I cannot WAIT to see more, thank you so much for sharing this amazing story with us.

Chapter 4 was so hard for me to get through and I cut out A LOT of stuff because it was just so painful and as Penelope's mom basically I literally had this moment where i just scrapped a huge chunk because it felt so wrong to like expose these very painful and very raw moments she had. And I also really truly didn't want anyone to be scarred or anything reading it. And I'm glad I did, I think the little that I gave says enough about what went down. Alex got off easy and its honestly because Dream was just done, he'd thought he lost the last little shred of hope he had and he just wanted to go home and fulfill his final promise to Penelope.

Chapter 5 is still my favorite because I was literally heartbroken writing it 😅 It was so painful to write Morpheus mourning because he feels things so deeply but also so privately. I loved that it felt so natural and so heartbreaking even though they'd never spoken (that I think also added a lot more pain 😂). My favorite part of this was when he had to kill Gregory and he was just thinking about how much she would have loved all his creations and how unfair it was. 😭 Absolutely broke me! But in a piece of Dreams chapter 8 POV that I cut out (I'm going to publish it hopefully tomorrow before chapter 9s release) he has this parallel of that moment that I just adore.

Chapter 6 I am so glad you caught Night! I plan on expanding on that a bit later, but I'm happy someone caught it! The other Endless I loved writing for! Death is 100℅ like this is my little brothers future wife I'm not letting her go without making sure she's okay first. Destruction is gonna be a big influence on a lot of Penelope's future (chapter 9 will be getting into this) the friendship she has with him is literally so soft and I adore it and so when he leaves her its heartbreaking. Despair I truly didn't know how to do and I felt meh about it but rereading it I think it actually does a great job showcasing where she's at this point in her journey. Desire is a riot! They are so fun to write and I just love all of it! I think for the twins their care is hidden under this "we just wanted to see if it was true" guise but Desire 100℅ was watching to make sure Pen was safe while she was trying to fill that void and no one can convince me otherwise.

Chapter 7 I love Lucifer's character and I truly wanted to capture that awe Penelope has when meeting them because demons she's seen and they're all grotesque but Lucifer the ruler of hell and demons is just beautiful. 😩 Love it. You can thank @true-queen-of-mischief (and a ton of other stuff because they're amazing!) for the final version of the Nada paragraph because they have a ton of knowledge on the comic books so they helped me workshop that whole things as well as the end with Penelope's mom and her forgiveness of her. Dreams gentle nature is so fun to write, its just so soft and it kills me 🥺 The battle leathers! 🥵 They knew what they were doing with that!

Chapter 8 John needs to be put down a peg and I was more than happy sending in Penny because she knows a power hungry asshole when she sees one. 🤷‍♀️ And yes! I was absolutely going for the Alice in Wonderland vibes with that scene! Destiny is going to be featured again because I literally find him so fascinating among other reasons.

Oh my god! You're picking up on some of my foreshadowing and I love it!!!! 🤭😍😩 Butterflies, her name, all of it means something which chapter 9 and 10 will be getting into and I'm SO excited for it! It was one of my major ideas for the story and Penny and so I'm so excited to see it come to life and for you guys to get to react to it! I think it's amazing, so I hope you all do too once you find out! But seriously thank you so much! I adore getting to read what you and all the other readers are thinking and loving about the story! The new recent Walt Disney Animation Studios,Once Upon A Studio I’ve watched yesterday on ABC was truely a love-letter to the magical legacy that Walt Disney started 100 years ago and very happy seeing all of the Disney animated characters I’ve grown up with over the years getting together for a huge group photo really warms my heart and I really loved the emotional scene where Mickey thanks his old buddy,Walt for starting this 100-year old legacy that the studio continued to this day.

So,,, Twisted Wonderland takes place in a school dedicated to train mages and sorcerers, called Night Raven College. The entire school is split up into seven dormitories, each one based of a Disney villian. For example, Heartslaybul is based of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Savanaclaw is based of Scar from the Lion King, so on and so forth. Each dorm has their own leaders, called either Housewardens or Dorm Leaders. Twst has both an English and a Japanese translation, the former for the english, and the latter for the japanese.

And as you can guess,, each dorm leader has ✨TRAUMA✨,, (except for Kalim, the white haired boy) so as the story progresses, we learn about their traumas,,,, and we basically beat love into their brains,,, affectionately of course.

Considering that magic is also in Obey me,, I made NRC a secret institution,, just for mages and sorcerers. I don't know how to fit in Devildom and the brothers,, so we just pretend the lore isnt there.

As for how IK got into NRC without any magic? Well, hanging around the strongest demons in existence, the demon prince and his butler, two celestial angels and the most powerful sorcerer in the world, you're gonna get quite a bit or residual magic, especially having pacts with said powerful demons.

But IK has nothing to fear, because she has experience with seven emotionally constipated demon brothers who never spoke about anything for centuries on end. Also a baseball bat because of all the BS that happened in her transfer year at RAD. She has the hot chocolate and blankets ready, now all she needs is a notepad and paper because now shes playing the therapist role once again!

Since JSHK has some fairytale influences, do you think Iro-sensei inspired themselves from Peter Pan, by J.M. Barrie? I suppose Nene's caretaking traits and fussiness are a kind of Wendyish trait…? Not personally a fan of Pan and its author (though ironically I did do a dive into it + the person behind it for a DIFFERNT fandom that DOES definitively center on Peter Pan references) … but I get why you would wonder like, "well there is a forever child boy" because this is central…. but I dunno!! Peter Pan is a lot about adulthood VS childhood, Peter's permanent inability to have deeper emotions and refusal to have responsibilities (which is where caretaker/momish Wendy comes in), and Hanako is absolutely ruled by his responsibilities and a great, grave sense of devotion and dedication…. While one could think something like, "Amane (Pan) couldn't feel value or much until Nene (Wendy) became important to him" I think that'd be a misnomer, since his entire life's purpose is protecting and loving Tsukasa, and always has been; not a new virtue, Nene-chan is only reminding him of it. I think making a 'Pan' a caretaker himself would really break everything…. before he is a 'kid', Amane is 'big brother'. Tsukasa's ward, Tsukasa's captor. He takes care of Nene-chan, too.

Amane has intense resolve and commitment... bound by strictures and head down about following them... very non-Pan traits... his playfulness is a facade.

But ehhh its not like we always pay attention to the BONES of a fairytale in Iro-sensei land, we really subvert Snow White in their VN (but that subversion IS very intentional, and it's also diegetic stuff since she's READING the story IN the VN and processing how she analyzes it & compares it to her own life…)… we really just playfully reference most things in JSHK, its like a big cooking pot. I'd imagine at any day we could suddenly see a rando oneoff shishiki or something of any fairytale, like how we'll get,,, Red Riding Hood images suddenly. Personally right now, I think Little Mermaid & Cinderella have much more thematically going into JSHK … while ah, Alice in Wonderland & Wizard of Oz be essentially like, that simple concept of a girl wishing for a more interesting life being subjected to things so much worse than what she was dealing with before that she can only desperately wish for the normalcy she once complained about, which is very Nene-chan (AND YET destined to be subverted here, as she'd die to stay in our little Wonderland…)

For my own perspective I don't see it, Pan. But I also don't like Peter Pan or the author keerl;jgkl;htk;rhjfkl I'm just like sorry I incidentally do not like this particular tale you like
