MUTO ecology headcanons? MUTO ecology headcanons?
Kaliido, you have opened the floodgates.
Alright.
So, I headcanon that MUTOs are a coastal species, because everywhere a MUTO was willingly, it was a coastal environment. The Philippines, Janjira, Honolulu, San Francisco, and Hoboken, where Barb was sleeping. Yucca Mountain and Las Vegas are outliers- but Femuto didn’t go there willingly, she was taken to Yucca as a spore, and the rest of it is her seeking out radiation and then heading to the coast. (A non-ecology headcanon of mine is that she remembers Monarch cutting open and running tests on her as a fetus, which explains her being slightly more aggressive towards humans in the beginning than Hokmuto (who might have even learned to associate humans with food by that point)). Then, of course, the nest blows and she becomes way more aggressive.
Also, Hokmuto was able to dive deep enough to catch that Russian sub (or snatch it from the surface if it was surfacing at the time) and then carry it to Hawaii, where he proceeded to enjoy his nuclear missile munchies. He performs a similar stunt with the nuke boat in San Francisco Bay, diving on it from the clouds (in what I consider to be one of the most visually stunning shots of the MonsterVerse), then swimming underwater with it to the shore.
This leads me to believe that male MUTOs would fly out to sea to hunt, snacking on smaller ocean-going Titans such as Genitors or Squidfaces (the Skull Island Final Boss Thing), before carrying their catch back to the coast for their mates and babies.
Which brings me to the females. I believe that they would use their long forelimbs to root around in the mud and sand for prey such as Mire Squids, Trapdoor Crabs, or Sirenjaws. Nesting spires and cocooning sites would be dug into high cliffs or expanded from naturally-occurring sea caves to keep them safe.
Not sure how Primuto fits into all this but nobody cares about her.
In short, preferred feeding territory would be the open sea, barrier islands, brackish inlets, saltmarshes, and estuaries. Another tally on the “coastal” theory involves their preferred nesting host, Titanus Gojira- an ocean-going and semiaquatic species. Males would lure the Gojira to the coast, where he and the waiting mate would work together to subdue it, having lured the Gojira onto land, where it would be much clumsier and easier to bring down.
Another headcanon I have involves the nesting spire- namely, you can hear the babies chirping and chittering from inside their eggs. I believe that this was to allow them to coordinate their hatching time and to alert Mama and Papa to have food ready (Some crocodilians and birds do the same thing).
Another involves the spire itself, as well as the cocoon and the spores- namely, it’s a mix of the MUTO’s thick saliva and dirt/other materials. Spores that are injected into a host will form their shells from chewed-up bone or carapace matter.
As for the unseen larval stage- I believe it to be semi-aquatic, given the theories I have stated above and below, and the fact that baby Hokmuto was hauling ass over sea from the Philippines to Janjira.
My final headcanon is that I subscribe to the “MUTOs are derived lungfish” theory. Look up a lungfish skull and tell me that’s not the most MUTO thing you’ve ever seen. The metamorphic life cycle could be a form of neotenal larva developing into a fully formed adult (like an amphibian, but with an added cocoon for protection, given the transformation takes longer due to size and energy needs). Lungfish have working lungs, as their name suggests, meaning it’s not inconceivable that they could evolve to be full air-breathers as adults (esp. with Hollow Earth fuckery/by kaiju movie standards). The multiple limbs can be explained as being like a sea robin’s fingers (look it up). Lungfish cocoon themselves with saliva during droughts to survive. Etc. Not sure how the EMP factors in- mayhap could say it has something to do with the lateral line? One could say that their “eyes” aren’t even really eyes, but modified lateral lines (this explains the radio light flashing in time with Femuto’s “eye” pulsing). I do thing they have some form of visual sight though.
I’m aware some of these ideas contradict themselves, but a lot of the canon stuff about the MUTOs is contradictory as well.
Anyway, that concludes my lecture. Apologies for the long post, as you can tell I’m so normal about my lil buggy boys and girls.
So sorry for not responding to this ask sooner but I fucking love this!!!! The canon explanation for MUTOs and their biology has mostly left me unsatisfied (the parasite thing feels underdeveloped and all the different forms just don’t make sense? what is the purpose of the Prime or the Queen?? Why do they exist and why do they BOTH need to exist?). I love when people go “fuck canon” and just run wild with reinterpretation, this shit is my jam. Especially when it comes to the MV and reemphasizing that these monsters are animals with lifestyles beyond “graaah scary predator”. Awesome shit right here anon.

Titan History: Jinshin-Mushi
Welcome once again to Monarch: After Dark, the digital gateway between you and the organisation dedicated to understanding and navigating this troubled new world we live in.
For today's communication, we return ourselves once again toward the events of G-Day and the Titans that began the chain of events that led to Monarch's exposure; the Dragon Beetle and its spawn, Jinshin-Mushi.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: News footage of the Jinshin-Mushi Queen attacking New Jersey during the Mass Awakening crisis, circa. 2019
Monarch Database File: Jinshin-Mushi
Monarch Designation: Titanus Jinshin-Mushi
Height: 350 feet (Prime), 281 feet (Male), 298 feet (Female), 370 feet (Queen)
Weight: 135,000 tons (Prime), 15,000 tons (Male), 60,000 tons (Female), 110,000 tons (Queen)
Nature: Bio-Terrestrial (Prime), Bio-Atomic (Male and Female, presumably Queen as well)
Behavioural Classification: Destroyers
-----
To the majority of the public, these Titans are still referred to with the previous designation for superspecies discovered by Monarch, M.U.T.O (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism). Even within Monarch itself, few seem to refer to the Jinshin-Mushis with their proper designation, the Prime being the sole exception.
Currently, the remains of both Jinshin-Mushi involved with G-Day, as well as the Prime, are being kept within Monarch's Castle Bravo facility for dissection and study.
Parasitic Titans with a history long intertwined with Godzilla's species, the Jinshin-Mushis were speculated by Monarch's former paleobiologist Emma Russell to have been responsible for several mass extinctions throughout Earth's history. During the 11th Century BC, the Jinshin-Mushi Prime had been documented by the Phoenicians bringing down a member of Godzilla's species (referred to as 'Dagon' or 'Raijin') and impregnated him with two spores.
These spores fed off the radiation-rich haemoglobin in Dagon's blood, ultimately killing the Titan once he was no longer able to replenish his atomic energy. For several centuries, Dagon and the spores lay within the Phillipines, seemingly lost to history.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: A Phoenician stone tablet presented to Emma Russell, depicting a battle between Dagon and the Prime, circa. 2014)
In 1999, Dagon's remains would be uncovered when a mining operation drilled into the site and caused a valley floor to collapse. One of the spores, catalysed by sudden exposure to the atmosphere, hatched and the larval male Jinshin-Mushi escaped to the ocean. Travelling a great distance to Japan, the male attacked a nuclear plant in Janjira before cocooning itself to feed off the radiation from the reactors. The second spore, later known to have contained the female, was determined to be dormant and was sent to a nuclear waste repository in Nevada.
15 years later, the male had finally finished feeding and hatched, disabling the containment facility around it with an EMP attack before taking flight. On its way to Honolulu, the male dredged up a Russian nuclear submarine and fed on the warheads it carried. After using its EMP to stop military jets from engaging it, the male continued to a nearby airport, where it was confronted by Godzilla.
The world watched in shock and horror as the two clashed, the male retreating soon after with Godzilla hot in pursuit. The truth of the existence of monsters was finally out in the open. Shortly afterward, the dormant spore in Nevada became active and the female Jinshin-Mushi emerged, already fully grown. She rampaged through Vegas before heading to California. With the threat growing, the military hatched a plan to kill both Jinshin-Mushis and Godzilla with a nuclear weapon.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: The male Jinshin-Mushi roaring at Godzilla when confronted in Honolulu, circa. 2014)
The female intercepted a military convoy transporting two nuclear warheads, devouring one of them and killing almost all the personnel transporting them. The remaining warhead was transported to San Francisco, though the male managed to obtain it and presented it to the female in an act of courtship.
From here, the events of G-Day are famously known. The female constructed a nest in the middle of the city and laid her eggs around the warhead so they could feed on the radiation. Godzilla arrived and confronted the two in a long and brutal fight, though he emerged victorious with some intervention from navy EOD specialist Ford Bordy. The male was killed after Godzilla smashed him into a skyscraper, and the female was decapitated when Godzilla fired an atomic blast down her throat.
Just a few months later, Godzilla fought the Jinshin-Mushi Prime across the globe. While the Prime emerged from a crater in Japan, their first battle took place in Guam, where the Prime fed on a nuclear sub before fending Godzilla off with a strike to the face. Their second, in the Barents Sea, ended similarly. Their third clash, at France's Athena II Nuclear Power Plant, ended with Godzilla heavily wounded, drawing concern that he may lose if the two Titans met again.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Monarch's Titan profile on the Jinshin-Mushi Prime, circa. 2014)
The Prime's final battle with Godzilla took place in a US site for decommissioned nuclear power cores, where the Prime used a sonic roar to shatter the dorsal plates on Godzilla's back, greatly weakening him. As the Prime prepared to plant new spores into Godzilla, it became temporarily distracted by Emma Russell's experimental sonar device ORCA. Taking advantage of the pause, Godzilla fired a nuclear pulse from his back that sent the Prime flying, before he finally killed it with a stomp to the head.
Five years later, during the mass Titan awakenings triggered by Monster Zero, a previously undiscovered Jinshin-Mushi caste, a Queen, emerged from underneath a strip mall in New Jersey and rampaged until it was pacified by the ORCA's activation. The Queen was among the Titans that converged to Boston following Monster Zero's demise.
-----
And, there you go! A rundown on the history behind Jinshin-Mushi, to G-Day and the years beyond. The Queen is currently the only surviving member of the species, with some speculating that she may mature into another Prime some day, provided she is not killed by Godzilla beforehand. Only time can tell on that, however.
Until next time,

Godzilla Aftershock
Continuing the story of 2014’s Godzilla after the catastrophic events in San Francisco, the novel finds the big lizard threatened as a terrifying new foe rises from the depths of the earth, unleashing a series of devastating earthquakes and driven by an unstoppable primal instinct that will test Godzilla like never before. Introducing characters from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the graphic novel delves further into the activities of cryptozoological agency Monarch.
The brilliant and driven Monarch operative Dr. Emma Russell races to stop the threat as clues emerge to reveal a terrible secret—a tragedy, of apocalyptic proportions from the distant past that changed the course of human history, is returning to threaten it once more. A shadowy figure stalks Emma’s every move as she travels the globe to uncover secrets, while Godzilla clashes in an ancient rivalry as old as the earth itself. The fate of the world lies in the balance in an epic confrontation that no Godzilla fan will want to miss

Request - MUTO Prime
I've put off drawing for several days just because I was procrastinating doing this... not their fault, no way to know this is one of the very few kaiju I kind of hate. I don't like the comic it's in, I dislike that the comic's only reason to exist is to justify redesigning Godzilla's dorsal plates to hardcore fans when Godzilla looking different between movies is hardly new. I don't like how it muddies the lore of the Muto's parasitic relationship with other titans, I dislike how I can never seem to figure out how many limbs it has. Seriously, seems to have five arms in most pictures but not a clear place for it to attach - is it in between the two smaller back arms or is one of yet another pair? I'm not crazy about the way it changes things from 'our original monsters are going to have to team up to threaten Godzilla so he can come off powerful but not invincible' to 'Godzilla is kind of helplessly prey to our second round OC.' Most of all I hate its weird Michael Bay Megatron face. Seriously look at a picture of it and imagine it ranting about the all spark, it fits too well. www.deviantart.com/jsp1954

Finally decided to draw an "I think we're gonna have to kill this guy" meme, featuring my OC, Purra, and Penilla from the new fangame Undertale Yellow (which I'm currently playing so no spoilers!)
Oddly enough, this seems to be one of only two pieces of art that contain Penilla on this site after the game released, so, enjoy I guess?

Titan History: Godzilla
Welcome once again to Monarch: After Dark, the digital gateway between you and the organisation dedicated to understanding and navigating this troubled new world we live in.
For today's communication, it was decided by Monarch officials stationed at Castle Bravo (Outpost 54) that we should create an updated historical account on arguably the most recognisable and infamous of the Titans we currently know of; Godzilla.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: aerial footage of Godzilla leaving San Francisco the morning after G-Day, circa. 2014)
Monarch Database File: Godzilla
Monarch Designation: Titanus Gojira
Height: 393 feet
Weight: 99,634 tons
Length: 582 feet (tail)
Nature: Bio-Atomic
Behavioural Classification: Protector
---------------
A member of an ancient reptilian species that was known to exist as early as the Permian period, Godzilla serves as a guardian of the natural order, rising from the depths whenever the balance of the world is threatened, be it by other Titans or by humanity. Newfound information has revealed that, at some point in their early history, the Titanus Gojira species waged war against a population of great apes within the Hollow Earth. The outcome was victory for the former, while the latter migrated to a surface landmass that would become Skull Island, where they would face near-extinction.
Throught the millenia, imagery of these Titans showed their defense of humanity against other Titans, including the seemingly extraterrestrial lifeform, "Monster Zero". These battles were documented well, immortialised in the form of cave paintings and tales passed down through the generations.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Cave painting documenting a battle between Godzilla and Monster Zero, circa. 1973)
While much of the history surrounding the individual we know today as Godzilla is unknown, his modern history is far clearer. First discovered in 1954 by founding Monarch figures William Randa, Keiko Muira and Leland Shaw, the initial reaction to the Titan's existence was an attempt to kill it using a nuclear weapon. Covered up as the Castle Bravo nuclear test, it was believed that Godzilla had been killed until he resurfaced a year later in Hateruma Island.
His next widely documented appearance was the infamous G-Day in 2014. Tracking down a mating pair of Titanus Jinshin-Mushi (aka MUTOs), Godzilla battled and eventually killed them in San Francisco, though not without extensive damage done to the city and the Golden Gate Bridge beforehand. Months later, he battled with a Jinshin-Mushi Prime, which resulted in the Prime destroying his dorsal plates before she, too, was killed.
According to Keiko Muira, and her grandchildren Cate and Kentaro Randa, who were recovered on Skull Island in 2017 through an "in-between" realm linking the surface to the Hollow Earth, Godzilla responded to a Gamma Radiation Simulator abandoned in the 1960's and battled a large dragon-like creature before they were able to escape. Their account is currently under Monarch investigation.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Godzilla using an "intimidation display" in front of Monarch's Castle Bravo crew, circa. 2019)
In 2019, a mass Titan outbreak instigated by eco-terrorist Alan Jonah and Monarch paleobiologist Emma Russell called Godzilla to action once again. He first appeared in front of Castle Bravo, where he prepared to attack before the outpost lowered its weapons and calmed him down. He made way to Antarctica, where Monster Zero had recently been awakened. The two battled before the latter Titan retreated.
They clashed again off the coast of Isla de Mara, Mexico, where Godzilla succeeded in tearing off one of Monster Zero's heads. Before this battle could end, likely in Godzilla's favour, the military deployed an experimental superweapon called the Oxygen Destroyer, which severely weakened Godzilla and allowed Monster Zero to escape and regenerate its missing head before usurping control over Earth's Titans.
Their final battle took place in Boston following an evacuation of the city. Godzilla had support from an ally Titan known as Mothra to battle Monster Zero and its own ally, Rodan. The battle ravaged much of Boston, and culminated in Godzilla being dropped from the troposphere and Mothra being killed by a powerful blast from Monster Zero. With some assistance from Monarch and a final gift from Mothra, Godzilla achieved a heightened state of power and caused a thermonuclear explosion that destroyed Boston, and Monster Zero.
Following the battle, other Titans gathered around and bowed before Godzilla, accepting him as their new alpha. In the interim between this and the next major incident, Godzilla would travel the globe and keep other Titans, such as Scylla and Amhuluk, in check.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Godzilla surrounded by other Titans, bowing down and accepting his claim as the alpha Titan, circa. 2019)
Following a period of minimal Titan activity, Godzilla suddenly surfaced in Pensacola, Florida and destroyed an Apex Cybernetics facility before returning to the depths. In response to this, a joint operation between Monarch and Apex went underway to use another Titan, Kong, to track down an energy source that would give humanity the edge over Godzilla before he could hurt more people.
Godzilla and Kong clashed twice. Their first battle took place in he Tasman Sea, where Godzilla intercepted a naval fleet transporting Kong to Antarctica. This encounter was short-lived, and only a last-ditch effort by ex-Monarch agent Nathan Lind prevented Kong from being killed. Their second brawl in Hong Kong placed Kong on better footing, armed with an axe he obtained within the Hollow Earth, though Godzilla still prevailed and nearly killed Kong.
However, deception from Apex allowed them to siphon the energy from the Hollow Earth into a secret anti-Titan weapon, Mechagodzilla. After losing control of the mecha, it went on a rampage and battled a weary Godzilla nearly to death before a resuscitated Kong intervened. Working together, the two Titans triumphed over Mechagodzilla and parted ways without further conflict.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Godzilla departing Hong Kong following Mechagodzilla's defeat. To date, this is the last confirmed sighting of Godzilla, circa. 2024)
---------------
And there you go! A simplified but up-to-date account of Godzilla's modern history. We will upload more information regarding him as we are authorized to do so by Monarch officials. We hope you have learned something from this historical account, and we will be back shortly with new information.
Until next time,

Team Prime + Reader Who Works at Monarch (Part 3)
In which we see what the others think of you and I am Jared, 19. In my defense, the heat we're getting over here made me a little delirious. Remember to drink water! If you haven't seen it already, I recommend @simping-overload's fic that was inspired by this series! It's a TFP/Pacific Rim crossover! 10/10 would recommend!
Anyways, thank you for the outstanding positive response from Part 2! I have no idea what I'll do in Part 4 since what I have planned will not be enough. I'm very open to suggestions and my inbox is always open! Let me know what you guys think and I'll see you guys in the next part!
Read Part 2 Here!
The US Government? Hiding secrets from its other secrets? It's more likely than you think.
Humans...hunt monsters? Sure they encountered an oddball creature when Team Prime landed on Earth but would they be considered a monster?
Of course, Ratchet and Arcee are probably the group's most reluctant Autobots. Yes, it is an annoyance that they have another human to protect now, but...it just doesn't sit well with them even if you are related to Raf. Arcee especially, given all the times you try to be subtle about your observations when she was in her alt mode. First MECH, now...what was it? Monarch? How many secret organizations do these humans needs?
Bulkhead and Jack seem pretty neutral about it. To Bulkhead, this just means they now have another brainiac on their side. To Jack, you don't seem like you'll do anything malicious. And Raf did say you were on a medical leave of sorts, hence your visit to Jasper. He has seen you around town, and he has also seen you following/observing the others when they were in town. He'll leave the questions to the Bots.
Miko is So Freaking Ecstatic! A secret agent that studies kaijus ("MUTOs, not kaiju.") for a living! That's so cool! What kind of monsters have you seen? ("...Some.") Can she come with you one day? ("I'll have to talk to my boss.") Are there any monsters in Nevada? ("Let's hope not.") Can the Autobots be classified as MUTOs? (You thought about it for a second before telling her that, while indeed they are Massive Organisms, they are not Unidentified or Terrestrial...no offense to her friends.)
Bumblebee is the only one that had the most exposure to you. While you had never properly interacted, he thinks you're really interesting! Raf always talks about you, and it increased ten-fold when the kid learned you were staying with his family for some time. He can see how happy Raf is with you, and that makes him happy. Bee had thought about trying to make contact with you whenever you trailed him but decided against it for obvious reasons.
Optimus Prime...well, he's taking it as you would expect for a Prime. Always looking at the positive side of things while being blunt about any risks that might come from this. A scientist who studies life that inhabits the Earth...affiliated with the same government in charge of watching his comrades and yet they were just as unknown to each other. While it doesn't sit right with him, he'll be sure to talk to Fowler about it next time he visits. He now understands why Raf would be rather vague about you sometimes. He was simply trying to protect you as he would with the Autobots.
~~~
You took the grilling like a champ. You expected it to be more intense, but that could be prejudice stemming from all those sci-fi movies. But they haven't blasted you to your base atoms, so you call it a success!
"Say, can I ask a question now?" You asked. "If you're hiding out in a former missile silo...that means you have contact with Uncle Sam and his merry band. If that's the case, do you have some kind of POC?"
Miko cocks her head, "A...what?"
"It means Person of Contact," Raf explains. "They're asking about-" Suddenly an alarm went off, cutting off your nephew. It was loud, and the noise quickly bumped off the walls. You instinctually placed your hands over your ears as you shouted, "What is that? Are we under attack?"
Prime was quick to assure you, "Fear not, Dr. (Last Name). It is simply a proximity alarm. The only one who is able to trip it is-"
"PRIME!" An unknown yet familiar voice reached your ears.
You followed everyone's gaze to the new face in an ugly suit and an even tackier tie staring up at Optimus. You'd imagine whoever was the designated Person of Contact would be in full military fatigues as a way to display dominance as said sci-fi movies tend to do.
"Multiple disturbance reports in the shopping district, several accounts of a civilian being followed by Decepticons...didn't I tell you guys to stay out of trouble and out of the public eye?" You couldn't help but shift your eyes at the others, wondering what kinds of trouble they've gotten themselves into.
"I apologize, Agent Fowler." Wait a minute. "Due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to make contact with another human in order to ensure their safety from the Decepticons."
It doesn't take long before your eyes meet his, and it doesn't take long for your mouth to run away from you.
"Well mark my stars and stripes...It really is you, Corporal Fowler!"
Got a couple new 'Abraxas' questions, on a shared topic. ;)
(1) Considering how intelligent and sentient the Titans are in Abraxasverse, what do you imagine Hokmuto and Femuto were thinking when they went on their natural order-threatening rampage to hook up and reproduce just after hatching into their adult forms? Did they know what they were doing? Were they okay with it or were they slave to their instincts? Did they care either way? Did they understand the damage that their species breeding would do?
(2) How do Godzilla and Barb feel about each-other?
Ohohoho! Well, the first answer's a big one...
Considering both halves of the couple had only recently hatched, it's unlikely they really understood the state of the world or had anyone to teach them what they should or shouldn't do. I'm tempted to say that Hokmuto and Femuto were the equivalent of teenagers who were kicked out of their houses through circumstances outside their control and forced to deal with the world alone, with no advice or help from anyone. A rather daunting idea.
Teenagers can be impulsive and often imagine themselves invincible if only because the world has yet to humble them; Hokmuto might very well be riding on the high of surviving the Honolulu encounter with Godzilla, who he might only instinctively recognize as a threat and/or potential food, but otherwise doesn't know him from Adam (heh). Teenagers also get horny, and I think it's a common occurrence for one to do daring if incredibly stupid things on the off-chance that someone they find attractive may notice (unless of course sexuality circumstances dictate otherwise).
They weren't stupid, though - if they'd met when the world was more densely populated with Titans and they were naturally taught the ways of the world, Hokmuto and Femuto would've made pretty good parents. They had chemistry, they knew how to work together, they put up an excellent fight against Godzilla, and if not for a certain lucky-as-hell lieutenant blowing their nest sky-high, might've won the day and doomed us all. Unfortunately, they wouldn't realize the gravity of their actions until it was too late. How would they? No one else of their kind was around to teach them. They only had each other. Things might've been different if they had experienced adults like the MUTO Prime or even Barb around, but they didn't. Either way, they weren't stupid; they just didn't know any better.
Speaking of Barb! Tensions between her and Godzilla were certainly high, especially early on. But neither of them were keen on starting a fight that could result in serious injury or worse; it's simply easier to leave each other alone and go about their day. They at least have an accord: Don't start shit and you won't get hit. Plus, Barb is much older and wiser than Hokmuto or Femuto, fully aware of what could happen if she were to mate and start a clutch of eggs. The world in its current state can't handle such an infestation (loathe as she is to refer to hypothetical offspring as such).
Sadly, this knowledge also brings loneliness with it. Suddenly Godzilla has offspring of his own in Ladon and Shin, and Barb remains alone. There could be a surge of resentment. Why does he get to be a father again? Why can't she be a mother? Oh, but she knows full well why. Barb envies Godzilla having a family, but she doesn't take out her emotions on others because that wouldn't help her species-wide reputation as a parasite. Naturally, she develops a melancholic disposition. At times her depression is palpable enough for humans to pick up on it.
It takes time for Godzilla and Barb to be near each other without the instinctive, ancient grudge between their species getting in the way of things. They still don't really like each other, and some days "tolerate" can be a tall order, but the accord still stands. She'll still run to his aid if he calls for it. Privately, Godzilla might actually feel bad for Barb. It wasn't that long ago when he was the last of his kind just like her, after all.
Having a bunch of Koyama thoughts, particularly about the early part of his and the other Scars' redemption arcs following the disbanding of their division. As fun as it would be to write a fic about it I definitely don't have the time to do so, so! Text post it is.
When I was first watching S2, seeing Koyama among the group of former Scars who were trying to put their lives back together definitely surprised me a little. "The Scars did shitty things" is a given, but when it comes to Koyama I feel like his wrongdoings are more...personal to a lot of the audience, if that makes sense. His fight with Mob--if you could even call it that--had this drawn out, visceral brutality to it that I don't think any of the Scars replicated, except maybe Muto. If Koyama got his ass kicked during the end of S1 and went poof along with said Chin Man and Miyagawa, I wouldn't have been surprised.
Don't get me wrong, I love where his arc ended up, and I think the Scars' stories fall in well with the messages the show was trying to convey. That change in him feels like a big leap to make, though, so it's been fun to try to fill in the gap. I'd imagine that transition period after the fall of the 7th division must've been...pretty messy(gonna ramble more about this under the cut)
The blanket explanation the Scars gave was how being beaten by a bunch of kids snapped them out of their flawed way of viewing the world, which makes sense—for the majority of them, anyway. But Koyama wasn’t around for the Great Reigen Roast of 2012–you could say the same for Terada, Takeuchi and Tsuchiya as well, but while all the Scars have been characterized with a certain immaturity towards society and the like, Koyama’s blaring faults directly clash against any kind of progression.
He’s the school bully that gets in trouble and only resolves to get revenge, that one little kid who’d refuse to ‘lose’ when playing make believe by coming up with all sorts of excuses. Judging by the way he’d lash out at any sign of his strength being questioned…I don’t think his pride would’ve let him have that swift moment of clarity like the others(even after being turned into a human ping pong ball by a middle schooler). Far from it as you could go, in fact—that humiliation would only make him double down. Not that the other Scars aren't drastically affected by the whole thing, of course, but Koyama…Koyama’s a prime candidate for making his frustration everyone else’s problem.
Hell I could even see him getting it into his dumbass head that he could find a place in Claw again if he just took down the ones that put an end to the 7th division. His fellow Scars who failed—well they just didn’t have the grit to fight their way past this setback, lost their teeth, but not him. He thinks he could succeed where they failed, and rise back to the top. Shallow as hell plan, painfully desperate, but it’s all he has now. I’m sure that would go sooooo well for him, especially when the rest of the Scars find out what he’s up to while they’ve been trying to fix their lives. Lmao.
