34 gigs over the span of the next 40 days are all laughing at me and the chorus of their sound is a concert of the damned (me)

What kind of heirlooms do people from normal families receive, and why did I get my mad uncle Jack’s banjolin?
(The answer to the latter is that this thing has been passed around my family from relative to relative for decades and decades bc no one actually knows what to even do with a banjolin.
My dad heard about it and piped up that one of his daughters is a musician and may be able to find a use for it.
And fair play to my dad who, in one of the only nice gestures he has ever done for me, actually took the mangled ancient banjolin to some kind of specialist and got it repaired and touched up and had some of the broken parts replaced, so it’s actually in the best condition it has ever been in. It’s an extremely old instrument from like a hundred years ago, but it looks shiny and nice.)
(Also, I’m not 100% sure my great uncle Jack was mad but I’m assuming he was. The man owned a banjolin.)

On the eve of '5SOS5's release, they'll play a special show at London's Royal Albert Hall, bringing in a whole orchestra for the performance. It'll serve as a geographical signifier of their growth, as the group used to busk and host fan meet-ups across the street from the iconic venue in their earliest days, but 5SOS give the impression that they never doubted for a minute that they'd make it to that stage.
"It's such a risk to choose this, and you don't fuck around," says Ashton. "When you choose a risky job, like being a musician, or starting a band, leaving your family, leaving everything you know, and moving to a place like England, you're not messing around. Like, you'd be a fool to. We wanted to slay this shit. So we did, and we continue to manifest this thing that we started on over a decade ago. And I feel like we would be letting down our fans to say we didn't think this would happen, because they convinced us that it probably will happen. And if it did, I like to think that if people did support or do support this band, they feel like they chose the right people to support. Because we didn't take this like it was nothing."
-Ashton Irwin, during Dork Magazine interview September 2022

Conclusions after the first day of masterclasses with Pia Douwes:
Where was this woman when I was studying damn 😭 She's incredible and I love her
She's so good. Like so fucking good
She's pretty much the biggest musical theatre star in NL ever and yet she's so approachable. The way she interacts with the students, or how she treats me as an equal. I love her
She's 59 but you could have told me she was forty and I would have believed it
Her coaching is so great. She says one or two things to a student and the difference in how they sing is unbelievable
She's an amazing human being. Her passion and care for her craft and the students she's teaching it to. Her life lessons and how personal she can make what she's saying. I am in awe 🧡
I don't care that she's over twice my age; I'm in love with her. She's not only an incredible performer, she's also a great teacher and human. I can't wait until our next masterclasses with her 🥰

I feel the world weighing on me today. I don’t feel ready to begin the path I am about to venture on. I wanted to be more disciplined. I wanted to first perfect my eloquence and master my demons. Unfortunately, time is passing too quickly. The sunlight turns to moonlight in the blink of an eye these days.
So, I am going to put conditioner in my hair, wash my face, make a second cup of coffee, put on my favorite loungewear, and write music.
“Miranda will be a noticed artist.”

Halfway through FAWM
Hello again. I'm midway through the FAWM songwriting challenge, and I have to say, it's been a wild ride.
If you're not familiar with FAWM, it's a challenge to write 14 songs in 28 days. And let me tell you, it's not for the faint of heart!
At first, I was feeling pretty intimidated. I mean, coming up with 14 songs in 28 days? That's a lot! And to make matters worse, I was struggling to be creative. But as I started writing, something magical happened. The words just started flowing, and before I knew it, I had written a few songs.
One of the best parts of the FAWM challenge is that it encourages you to experiment and be creative. I've tried new songwriting techniques, written songs in different genres, and even pushed my lyrical boundaries. It's been amazing to see what I can come up with when I let go and just let the creativity flow.
Now, I'm halfway through the challenge and I've written seven songs so far. The next seven are going to be just as challenging, but I'm ready for it. Even though it's been tough at times, I'm so grateful for this experience. It's taught me to embrace the unknown and to always keep pushing myself, even when I'm feeling stuck.
The FAWM songwriting challenge has been an amazing experience so far. It's not easy, but it's worth it. And who knows, maybe by the end of the challenge, I'll have written some of my best songs yet! Maybe.
