can't stop thinking about that review of stožice that said the extended vem da greš and jan's solo after metulji were pointless... like those are two of my favourite bits of the concert and i'm sure most fans agree with me or at least enjoy them

listen up everyone because you are missing out on a seriously glorious part of life that you shouldnt be missing out on and that glorious part of life is the album winter by purl
Tumblr media
droning, repeating melodies that become more distorted and corrupted as the album goes on, but no matter how distorted it becomes, the soft repeating guitar patterns consistently sound gentle and comforting as if it is guiding you through this experience. the other instruments become eroded over the course of the album, jarring you just a little only for the guitar to provide what feels like a familiar warm hug and pull you back in. the album is calm and even a bit repetitive until track ten, after which the entire project takes a turn for the surreal. it dissects your brain.
one of my favorite things about this album is that while a lot of other experimental albums insist on pushing the listener out of their comfort zone - sometimes to the point of overstimulation, this album taps into deep feelings perfectly without relying too heavily on grating distortion. the best of part of it, to me, is that there are no words. i tend to stop liking certain projects or artists as i get older and can no longer relate to the lyrics, but with winter that doesnt worry me because the fact that there are no lyrics means that the album tells whatever story you need to hear the most at the time of listening. its intimate.
there is very little information on this group or person, which is sad since this album has been out since ‘96 and the purl spotify page and band camp pretty much sit barren. im almost sure i found one of the members or the soul member of purl, who i will be attempting to interview soon. it really is a shame to me that so many people are missing this masterpiece.
anyone could enjoy this album and everyone who listens will have a different experience with it, a personalized experience. it succeeds in reaching inside of you and rearranging your soul. please listen to winter by purl.

Guitar Showcase
#1 : Random Livingstone ??? Acoustic
Tumblr media
Gifted to me from my Uncle when I was like 8 or smt and I knew shit all about guitars. I dont actually know what model this is or literally anything about the guitar other than its a livingstone acoustic
I never started playing guitar until I was 14, and I didnt start with this (you'll see it soon lol). I kept this just because uh its an acoustic?? I know literally nothing about acoustic guitars, and especially this one.
The only work I've done to this was after letting the strings rust for like 6 years, I took them off and replaced them with cheap ebay set
Anyway here's me playing the interlude to Holy Wars... The Punishment Due by Megadeth.
Sorry if you can hear the fan, I had to volume boost the fuck out of this because my laptop mic is dogshit and its way too hot to not have the fan on, God love Australia

despite my many comments on the directing choices in the mean girls musical movie, I really do genuinely appreciate and really like that the movie changed the songs' instrumentals. I don't like all the changes but I really like that they really did put in the effort to make their own unique spin on the musical and not just make it a copy and paste from stage to film. Like that's genuinely fuckin good

“THE PRELUDE: ACT OF RECLAMATION” A LIVE SHOW BY OSÉ [SOLD OUT]
Headline Show Review - 09/12/2023
[Pictured below; Osé and band]
Tumblr media
————————————————————————————-
*DISCLAIMER* All photos and videos from this event are over on @reviewsbyliam on Instagram. Please head there after reading this article to witness the greatness that we did. Thank you and enjoy reading!
————————————————————————————-
I arrived in London on the 29th of November, suitcase in hand, 5 hour coach journey behind me and a now 45 minute Uber journey to Deptford. My boyfriend met me at the coach station, we spent the first evening just settling into the area, getting some food and having a few beverages (as you do), and then some well earned sleep after both travelling from separate parts of the UK.
Experiencing a day of being a tourist in London the next day was bewildering - I wanna live there now.. I'm definitely made for the big busy city life. We headed back to the hotel, and got ready to make our travels towards one of my long time internet friends first ever SOLD OUT DEBUT HEADLINE SHOW!!
The emotions were at an all time high, before we get into it though..
Here's a little backstory..
I've known Osé for 3/4 years now, first meeting on Twitter (now X) and forming a mutual connection through Ariana Grande and our overall love for music. I always knew that Osé loved to sing, I also knew that one day, he'd be on a stage somewhere giving it his all performing his music and not looking back - little did I know how real that thought would actually become.
Shortly after debuting this blog, Osé called me and told me the tear flowing news that was him booking his first ever headline show to debut his first new project. We screamed, laughed, I cried for him because I was so elated with pride, and then he asked me if I would join him in London, interview him as well as review his show, and help write the description for his event. I must've asked him several times if he was joking, following up with a loud !!YES!! and getting to planning..
Fast forward to the night of the show..
Entering the venue and the thought of not knowing what I was about to hear from Osé was anxiety inducing but extremely exciting nonetheless. I'd heard the music from his project prior to the show as he wanted me to be able to catch a feel of what was to come to help my own personal work, which was such a beautiful gesture. So I kind of knew the sounds of the night, but chose to not listen to them like they were the last songs on Earth so I could re-experience my first listen.
On stage before Osé was another uprising artist called Josh Pace, who was a very good musician to have before the main act as he drew the crowd in and the vocals were so raw. His bass tones were unreal.
After listening to Josh melt our ears, we mingled for a little while, grabbed a couple of drinks to calm the nerves, and then realised it was time..
I knew that when Osé took to the stage, it was going to become HIS world. We weren't here for us, we were here to witness a spectacle that can only be described as out of this universe.
Opening the show with an interlude describing who Osé is, some words being uplifting, some words describing Osé in a more vulnerable, judgmental light.. it was very honest and intriguing. The interlude interpreted that many people have things to say about Osé and his character, including himself, but nobody really knows the true him - hence the reclamation of his story.
Osé walks on stage, the room is flooded with screams, claps, hoots and hollers, he smiles and tries to take in the reception he has just received (which was extremely deserving) and starts to sing one of the most ICONIC songs of all time; Creep by Radiohead.
The raw power that exonerated from Osé’s vocal box was like watching a superhero find their power for the first time. The moment he opened his mouth, he was unstoppable, it was Osé’s time.
I just knew he was about to SMACK us in the jaw with this show after blowing us away with his rendition of Creep and my heart was racing, my knees were weak and I had a dry mouth. I was SO nervous for Osé, but one thing I noticed, Osé wasn’t nervous, because he was home.
Osé started singing his songs from his project, including one song that had a very personal meaning which Osé spoke to us about before he performed, allowing us to see that artists we listen to, admire and idolize are struggling with personal battles just like us. I wont be revealing the track names, because the project is still under review by Osé himself and this night was just about getting a feel for whats to come. But when the project is birthed, you'll see. The night was all about the people closest to Osé finding out why this project is in the works and how he is choosing to utilize it to expand his character and knowledge of the world, which in my eyes is a very safe choice to make as an upcoming artist because for you to do well, you have to make sure your work is cohesive and relatable, and that is what Osé's project embodies, truly.
The raw talent that exudes from Osé, whether its through speaking, writing, singing, anything - it is a talent to be acknowledged and afraid of. Osé's vocals were so strong, and the evidence of his ability to explore across genres is even stronger. We went from sad, to funk, to healing, to rocking out. Not to forget that the band which accompanied him on stage were well into their element also. The guy on the drums? I could've watched him go crazy for hours. And don't even get me started on the saxophone, we will be here for eternity.
Stage presence is a HUGE factor into an artists success, because nobody wants to see an artist just stand there on stage like a bowling pin and sing into a mic and then wave and walk off. Thank the Lord that wasn't the case for Osé. He walked onto that stage, announced himself, and just let his inhibitions go. When the crowd hyped him, it was like the funk spirit had taken over his soul and he just threw his hips like there was no tomorrow. He laughed, he jumped, he clapped, he cried but he also joked with the crowd and made it the most safest space I've ever had the pleasure of being in.
At the end of the night, Osé thanked everyone for attending his first sold out headline show, and had to halt a few tears (so did I, many times). I have never heard a room erupt into screams, whistles, chants, you name it, so loudly before. I was watching Osé on stage just taking in the love that he so righteously deserved, which made it a full circle moment for everyone involved. The gratitude displayed was immense and he truly and authentically cracked the egg of success and stepped into the rest of his life as a vocal powerhouse that night.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Raw vocals, warming stage presence, immaculate band and organisation. Venue was cozy and made the vibe so much more intimate than it already was. Location was easy to find.
OVERALL REVIEW OF THE NIGHT: OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
If you're wondering whether to give Osé a chance when he next does a show, wonder no more because I'm here to tell you that it would be one of the biggest regrets of your life if you didn't attend a show of his or at least take a dive into his socials and hear the heaven that leaves his mouth when he sings. I have an upcoming interview to be released with Osé, and we discuss his early life, career, fears, and so SO much more. We dive into topics about the night too, and just have a good old catch up about how much Osé's life has changed since his sold out headline show. Keep an eye on my Instagram page for more details surrounding the release of that!
----------------------------------------------------------------
A message to Osé: Thank you for coming into my life and showing me that being creative is okay, it's okay to be vulnerable and show it in your work, it's okay to struggle and share that with people because we are all human and deserve peace. I will be forever thankful for the opportunities you graced upon me surrounding this event and I will forever be in debt to you. You are one of the most intelligent humans I've come across, and watching you blossom as an artist and a friend is a blessing that I will never let go. Never give up on who you dream to be, because the ability that you hold within yourself to make that happen is a lot more stronger than you'll ever know. I love you and I'm forever proud of you! L x

Album: Achievement - PilotRedSun (2016)
Tumblr media
If you were on the strange side of YouTube often between 2013-2020, chances are you've seen a PilotRedSun animation. The multi-media project is Michael Epler's.
Achievement is one of those albums that will stick in my head forever. PilotRedSun has a way of stringing chords and melodies together that gives each track the astonishing ability to embed itself within the crevices of the mind. It is entirely instrumental, the sound design is transportive and immersive -- a hundred worlds live in this album.
To me, a child of 2002, this album feels like a vague memory. A sense of something imaginary, something distant, something simultaneously less-than and greater-than reality. It is very digital-age, early internet, niche internet, MS Paint. The 8-bit and reverby drum elements are reminiscent of the 80s/arcade video games. It also feels jungle-gym-esque, though I can't make a concise argument for that.
This album was the reason I enrolled in AP music theory in high school. I didn't actually get to go to in-person school that year, so I have not yet been able to identify the exact elements that make PilotRedSun's songs so fucking interesting and deeply painful, but I'm going to someday.
Personal Highlights:
funny animals
fat cat
8-train
thanks

Drum Tao - The Light (2023)
After all these years, I finally able to watch them in person! A truly lively and electrifying performance, I really love the dynamic of the musical instruments like different types of drums (handheld snare, Odaiko, Taiko), Japanese flutes (shakuchi, shinobue), shamisen, koto, harp and several others.
The choreography is amazing in a sense that they paint various stories for each songs, an example is showing an angelic lady in white dress descending down the steps illuminated by different lighting with every step as the music plays making you feel like you are watching a real life music video.
The performance is dynamic as each song and segment are presented differently so you do not know what to expect next. The audience was jovial, clapping along to the rhythm and cheering for impressive stunts done by the performers while playing their musical instruments.
It’s a performance that you have to see in person as the atmosphere is very different than watching on videos as you feel immersed in it from the beginning to the end. We were not allowed to record or take photos until the end to avoid blocking the audience with all the hands in the air with their phones.
The two hosts who are part of the performers speaks good English and were quite comedic and lighthearted. I remember them asking if we want more, and everyone was shouting “Yes.” and when they say this was their last performance in my country this year, everyone was like “aw....”. 😂
Everyone stand and clapped at the end for like five minutes, cheering as the performers waved at us until eventually the curtain comes down. For the the entire time since the curtain was lifted I felt like I was in a different world until the curtain came down I have that dread feeling of going back to reality.
One thing for sure, I would love to catch them again someday! 🥰

Guitar Showcase!!!!
#3 : Schecter C-6 Deluxe
Tumblr media
Man it feels so good to finally get into a decent Guitar
This C-6 Deluxe was gifted to me last year for Christmas and it has served me well. I'm struggling where to even start
I'm not a big believer of tonewood, but the Basswood body immediately stands out to me, and I think the Glossy black finish is an amazing pairing. It features a 24-fret Maple fretboard with dotted inlays.
The C-6 Deluxe is an amazing guitar to play, the wide fretboard keeps it feeling smooth and just leaves you with a lot of room while playing which makes it very comfortable tbh. The Tune-o-Matic still bridge does a superb job at keeping its tune and its extremely comfortable to play on, especially because I'm a big metal fan ; it makes palm muting so easy.
The Dual set of Schecter Diamond Plus humbucker pickups give it a very crunchy distorted tone, perfect for anyone who loves albums like And Justice For All and Cowboys from Hell
Talking about cowboys, here's Cemetery Gates
Forgive me, I think my Mic was too close and my pinch harmonics are a little off, buts its another day too hot to record 😭
Overall very nice guitar, feels amazing to play and looks sick, my only complain is that I prefer sharp 6 inline headstocks over a 3+3 Setup, but its still a little shred machine if you know what you're doing

Meiso, DJ Krush (1996)
Tumblr media
I often find that with a lot of Japanese hip hop, particularly the older stuff, it’s sometimes very good but it’s rarely ever cool. DJ Krush doesn’t have that problem. Krush’s third record Meiso offers a plush sort of trip-hop-hip-hop, music that oozes understated, slick chic. It’s no wonder CL Smooth, Malik B, Black Thought, Guru and DJ Shadow all scrambled to get on this thing.
Pick: ‘Duality (feat. DJ Shadow)’

104: Scott Key // This Forest and the Sea
Tumblr media
This Forest and the Sea Scott Key 1976, Blivet Music
Scott Key’s This Forest and the Sea is nearly the platonic ideal of an obscure private press reissue:
Black white cover of a man of indeterminate age with a guitar sitting amid twisted, fallen trees, his face slightly obscured
On the rear, weirdo track titles (“The Entanglement of Elroy,” “Cat Soup”) and a peculiar epigraph: “Elroy snuck into the zoo one night and abducted a baby antelope from its cell. Whereupon, he proceeded to strangle it to death and stalk away into the darkness dragging the carcass behind him. A few days later, the police came to Elroy’s apartment and soon discovered the deceased critter cut up into bite-size pieces and stuffed inside a few lidless jars in his cupboard.”
Almost the only thing the artist ever released
Blisteringly fast guitar playing, primarily instrumental American primitive in the tradition of John Fahey and Leo Kottke, but with a smattering of flamenco influence
An ambitious 11-minute closer that’s also the best thing on the record
The story could only be improved if Key had disappeared under mysterious circumstances after joining a cult and sabotaging a logging operation or something.
youtube
Sadly, I must report that Key was still alive and kicking by the time Geneva, Illinois’ reissue specialists Lion Productions took an interest in his sole LP in 2011, and that he was able to contribute candid liner notes that reveal his story, influences (from the Doors to Paco de Lucia), and notes on his picking style. Key even gives the back story on that epigraph, and says he now regrets including it because it’s “scary and out of place.” (No! You fool! You oaf!)
It's all very handy stuff to have, and you can tell he’s thrilled to have the chance to tell his story after all these years. A couple of songs on the record feature Key’s vocals, and these have tended to be the most criticized aspect of the album. It’s clear from his notes that he’s still sensitive about this, and though he freely acknowledges his limitations as a singer-songwriter, his plea for understanding is endearing. So, I won’t rag on him about it! If anything, their countercultural sentiments (ecology good, consumerism bad) help situate the album in its time and place. Lion’s reissue of This Forest and the Sea loses the mystery, but gains the man, and if he turns out to be a fairly mild-mannered guy, his guitar picking sure ain’t.
