Im just here for the vibes…
Believe it or not yall I used to have serious social media anxiety.
As a black male educator it was easier to just conform and keep a low profile by either leaving social media alone, or only posting sporadically the achievements of my students or my self.
While it was a part if me, it was never the real me. Certainly not the parts of me that are authentically artistic.
To get over this stigma that I had of posting I just started to record myself all the time as I attempted to create, engineer, record myself, etc.
Welp, while I have been able to overcome that obstacle by just posting consistently.
Now I want my message to be clearer. I want to reach more people with my art. I want to create art that will move people and that will be undeniable.
Simultaneously working on my music business and upping my social media game is mentally taxing for the mind.
Then there js the fact that I have to get your attention with a hook and I only got 3-seconds to do it like wtf 😳
Sometimes, ya just wann vibe ya know. I have to if I want to get into my creative flow state.

When I think about when Brendon was streaming and what a beautiful community he created, it sometimes doesn’t feel real. Like he hung out with us for hours at a time talking to us, answering questions, being our biggest cheerleader with his positivity. He taught us about different aspects of creating music, he shared his own struggles and helped us with ours, he joked, he sang for us/with us, he shared honestly and with humor and sometimes too much, lol. He’d be the first to admit he is an over sharer and an open book. He took us on tour with him and streamed before every show. I miss just listening to music with him on those days we’d go down a rabbit hole of older music, him introducing us to new music and some of his favorites. I loved how excited he would get talking about it and him sharing bits I never knew about these songs. Truly his passion. I was always learning something from him. It was a safe space filled with love and positivity. If you were there, you know. Friendships were made from hanging in the chat. Friendships that I still have and even got to meet these friends on the VLV tour. I am so grateful for that!! I miss him and his light.

i’m going to go on a teacher rant here for a minute so if you’re like “what is she going on about” just bare with me, I’m having A Moment
so I have the same classroom every year as the orchestra teacher. it’s been my room for 4+ years now and every summer they are doing SOMETHING in there. one year they used it as an office which is fine, but they left my computer, phone, and keyboard in a pile on the floor. this past summer they redid my ceilings which is like, great! we love new ceilings! but they tore down every single one of my bulletin boards and threw away all my posters in the process.
they didn’t even do it entirely, they left like half of the stuff there for some reason. like dude, if you’re gonna take it down, take it all down?
Tumblr media
you’re probably asking me why I didn’t see this coming and it’s because I was assured that taking bulletin boards down wasn’t necessary. so there goes like $200 of my own money I spent decorating my classroom. and THEN, oh, this is the best:
Tumblr media
my best bass, literally in pieces.
so I’m like okay whatever (I’m having a heartburn and have developed a twitch at this point) they can replace this, let’s check my closet:
Tumblr media
you are correct everyone! that’s my desk, with EVERYTHING IN IT, in my closet.
I’m feeling so defeated and angry. I put so much work into this room every summer and every june it’s torn apart. I just went out and spent $100 on bulletin board paper and borders and posters and I’m like… what is the point if the TWO MONTHS I’m not in there, it gets destroyed every time?
I also have OCD and am 1000% a type A teacher so this was literally my worst nightmare. I just sat in there and looked around before I left. didn’t even bother trying to fix anything today.
so now I’m home and feeling pretty annoyed. and defeated. also hangry. but there’s my rant. happy wednesday everyone.

Today is the 210th birthday of Giuseppe Verdi. He was born in the village Le Roncole in 1813. On this antique postcard from 1904 we see the house where the composer was born. His work will always dominate the opera world.

Exams
The clock on the wall ticks by as you anxiously sit in the waiting room.
Oh how you hated exams.
You could hear from inside the shaky playing of your classmate, it made you shake too.
Oh how you hated exams.
You gripped your instrument tighter, sending a prayer to whoever would listen but it seemed there was no answer.
Oh how you hated exams.
(This is more music related cause I have a practical today and I am panicking hehehehehehehheheheh don't worry, most of my music trauma is self-inflicted, so I should be fine)
update: i think i failed…i hope a car runs me over🫠

Heyyy are any of you college music majors/minors? If so, I have a survey I made for a research project and it would be really helpful if you’d be willing to fill it out because I’m really struggling to get responses 🥺
The link is below, it’s completely anonymous. Just fill it out to the best of your abilities. If you fill it out, I just want to say thank you in advance!
