What is happening in Palestine is not complicated; it's settler colonialism & ethnic cleansing.

Debunking Misinformation around Palestine.

Myth ❌ Palestine and Israel are in "conflict."

Fact ✅ What is happening in Palestine is settler colonialism, military occupation, land theft and ethnic cleansing. A conflict means there is equal footing, which is not the case. There is an active oppressor (Israel) and an oppressed (Palestine). A colonizer (Israel) and a colonized (Palestine). This is not a conflict.

Note: According to the Congressional Research Service,

Israeli military occupation has been supported by US aid with $3.8bn a year paid for by U.S. tax dollars since 2016 for the next 10 years.

It's also supported by other colonial countries including Canada, Australia, France and Belgium.

Myth ❌ Before Israel came to Palestine, it was "just a desert" and Israel made the desert green.

Fact ✅ Before the occupation of Israel, Palestine had green, rich and lush land. In fact, Palestine respected the biodiversity of their Indigenous land: Palestinians were producing 92% of Palestine's grain, 99% of its olives and 95% of its melons to name a few.

Since Israel's occupation, biodiversity has decreased. Israel removed Indigenous plants from the land to plant European Invasive species. This phenomenon is called green colonialism, which has been discussed in depth by many, including Naomi Klein in "Let Them Drown."

Myth ❌ Sheikh Jarrah is the only neighborhood in Palestine that is in danger.

Fact ✅ Israel has been gradually stealing Palestinian land, destroying and ethnically cleansing entire Palestinian villages, violently displacing families and building illegal settlements on top them since the first Nakba ('catastrophe' in Arabic) in 1948, where almost 600 Palestinian villages were destroyed, Palestinian history erased and half the Palestinian population were expelled from their homes.

Fact ✅ Over the past few decades, the state of Israel has continued the settler colonial project, and Sheikh Jarrah is the latest and not the last neighborhood being violently threatened with dispossession, which Israel has no legal right to do.

I can't stop thinking about the news out of Palestine. Israel is sieging al Shifa hospital. Videos of people's limbs being severed off are haunting (graphic video tw). The hospital has ran out of fuel and 39 babies in incubators are fending for their lives by themselves, because Israel has stationed snipers around the hospital and is shooting all medical crew that walks into their sight.

First, the narrative was Israel would never bomb hospitals. Now, the hospitals are Hamas bases. Then, we respect journalists. Now, we have a fucking kill list of journalists because they are Hamas collaborators. First, we are not letting fuel in until the hostages are released. Now, we are not accepting the hostages back because that would stop our ground invasion and let Hamas win. And I could go on about every single lie they're making up. If you look up "Hamas rape" on google, the first link leads to Times of Israel saying Israel has found no forensic evidence of sexual violence, and only one eyewitness testimony out of 3.5k people attending the rave. If you Google "Hamas beheaded babies" the top links say they have no evidence for the claim besides word of mouth from extremist soldiers. Israeli extremists think about the ugliest goriest scene they can make out in their sick heads, tell that to a international journalist and they run away with it like it's gospel.

And children are being killed in the name of these lies. Thousands are being displaced in images that remind me of the pictures of Tantura 75 years ago, with their hands up so the tanks don't shoot them. Amputees are leaving the hospitals in wheelchairs hours after their surgeries because they are being shot at. Elders who survived the Nakba on 48 are having to walk towards Southern Gaza on foot (imagine walking from one end of your city to the other on foot), displaced again. People are cheering for the haunting images of white phosphorus bombs being dropped over Gaza. Gazan workers who were arrested in the West Bank are being thrust back into the bombings wearing numbered labels.

This is not normal. We are seeing the early stages of the settler colonial genocide of an indigenous population. Native leaders who have visited Gaza say its refugee camps look eerily like reservations. We can stop this. For the first time we are able to see wide scale accounts from the hands of the people suffering the genocide, and Israel is so scared of it they have cut all communications in Gaza.

This is our litmus test. I think we have never seen more clearly, with Palestine, Armenia, Congo and Sudan how colonialism has made our world a rotten place to live in.

The South African apartheid collapsed due to boycotts. We have to do everything in our power to stop Israel's hegemony. Even talking to a group of friends about Palestine changes the status quo. There's no world where we can live peacefully if Israel accomplishes their goals.

BDS explicitly targets only a few brands which have bigger impact. You can stop consuming from as many brands as you want, though, and by all means feel free to give a 1 star review to McDonalds, Papa John, Pizza Hut, Burger King and Starbucks. Right now, they are focusing on boycotting the following:

Carrefour, HP, Puma, Sabra, Sodastream, Ahava cosmetics, Israeli fruits and vegetables

Push for a cultural boycott - pressure your favorite artist to speak out on Palestine and cancel any upcoming performances on occupied territory (Lorde cancelled her gig in Israel because of this. It works.)

If you can, participate in direct action or donate.

Palestine Action works to shut down Israeli weapons factories in the UK and USA, and have successfully shut down one of their firms in London.Some of the activists are going on trial and are calling for mobilizing on court.

Palestinian Youth Movement is organizing direct actions to stop the shipping of wars to Israel. Follow them.

Educate yourself. Read into Palestinian history and the occupation. You can't common sense people out of decades of propaganda. If your arguments crumble when a zionist brings up the "disengagement of Gaza", you have to learn more.

Read Decolonize Palestine. They have 15 minute reads that concisely explain the occupation (and its colonial roots) and debunk popular myths, including pinkwashing.

Read on Palestine. Here's an amazing masterpost.

Verso Book Club is giving out free books on Palestine (I personally downloaded Ten Myths about Israel by Ilan Pappe. If you still believe in the two states solution, this book by an Israeli professor debunks it).

Call your representatives. The Labour Party in the UK had an emergency meeting after several councilors threatened to resign if they didn't condemn Israeli war crimes. Calling to show your complaints works, even more if you live in a country that funds genocide.

Can I talk about israeli anti zionists. I promise that I am not just being resentful or shouting at a wall.

I used to follow one prior to 2021 and when the sheikh jarrah protests happened they had alot of anons call them a colonizer blah blah and complicit and it's like funny bc if u r that confident then get off anon. But very much after they were making posts that, paraphrasing, were like "oh you guys are so stupid for thinking that posting is activism" and "I need to step away from social media" and "I don't feel safe" and... I unfollowed. I just felt like these were not the posts I wanted on my dash it left a bad taste in my mouth

And today I was curious and I already had a feeling that considering *waves hands around* all of this that they'd be making the same posts and..they are. And idk if I would call it victimization but it is amusing to me but what is not amusing to me is that they made a post that said this

Granted, tumblr is not the place where youre gonna get much interaction with posts like Twitter and Instagram but I really hate this condescending and demoralizing rhetoric so much sooo much. Reminder donating is practically useless. Rn there is no aid going through theres some ways to get money on the ground I am honestly not entirely sure which ones are more legit. But the way social media has been used to fight against the censorship means the world to palestinians. Instagram and Twitter delete videos and you guys re upload them. A gazan journalist took a picture of a piece of a bomb that showed it was manufactured by Woodward, a US company and thousands of people reposted it and exposed the locations of this company. There is sharing of gazan journalists social media pages so their videos make it to people

Like Muna el Kurd said "your posts are treasures to us" the last few years have shown that social media has become a way for people to mobilize.

And even if tumblr is not a place for it, it means the world that blogs are constantly spamming updates. That you guys didn't stop posting what's happening like israelis hope u do when they cut off most internet access to gazans to hide their atrocities. It means so much that you are sharing sources to combat the misinformation and propaganda and palestinian history.

You on a small scale can slowly contribute to a MASS. scale effort to aid a movement that has been in many ways been pelted with falseties and other such means to brainwash the general population into believeing this is anything but genocide.

decolonizepalestine is a solid place to start if you don't know much. there are tons of resources to parse through on your own time. look up mohammed el-kurd; read his work and watch the interviews he's given. his sister muna el-kurd is a great primary source as well. subhi on instagram/tiktok also breaks things down in a way thats very simple and easy to grasp, as well as jamesgetspolitical.

Just prefacing by saying this isn't an argument but I approach u with a discussion ;

I have read a lot of very grounded opinions on how expecting support and opinions abt palestinian suffering from stars in any fandom, but in this case from ryan shane and steven, is not reasonable

and demanding it, instead of focusing on actual coverage and spreading awareness undermines the value of the actual issue at hand etc.

Do you think however,

that a segment of this demand comes from people who have lost ppl in gaza or just mourn from seeing the pain and just wanna see ppl like shane,ryan and Steven, who i think are very socially aware, just say they are mindful (and I'm one person so I only have myself as an example)?

Bc i heard Brittany broski say smth that kind of 'clarified' this issue around looking at ur celebs for opinions- i feel like this portion of ppl dont want like, a researched, journal opinion piece/analysis from the watcher boys. But just solidarity, which is different. Just the air of awareness. Just a "i am seeing this and i stand in solidarity with the palestinian people". Because i never go beyond muna and mohammed el kurd or sbeih for Actual opinions and analysis on gaza and other parts of occupied Palestine. But watcher has brought me comfort and I've seen them comment about certain usa-involved injustice issues, so usa being super duper involved w israel financially etc begs me to ask- why dont they maybe just share one awareness post or like, hint their solidarity.

yeah i'm sure the people asking them to speak out are grieving for the palestinian people whether they personally know someone there or not. i think everyone spreading awareness and calling for a ceasefire and working to not let the world turn a blind eye to the genocide that's happening right in front of us are all grieving in some way.

and you're right, nobody is looking to them for a statement on public policy and international affairs. i don't think it's unreasonable to want them to show solidarity or awareness at the very least. it's disappointing that they haven't. i also get that they might be of the mindset that people come to their channel for comfort and an escape from real life so they may not want to threaten that comfort by bringing such a sensitive and painful topic to the channel, but like you said it doesn't take much to make a social media post affirming their stance, even on their personal accounts.

700 Palestinians were killed in the last 24 hours and the airstrikes are more violent each night. Gaza's hospitals have fuel left for two more days. Israel only allowed aid into Gaza on the condition they didn't carry fuel. The Indonesian hospital has shut down already, because doctors have no supplies and no choice but to let the wounded die. They're calling it a collapse but the term doesn't do it justice.

Over a 100 incubator babies are at risk. There are 50.000 pregnant women in Gaza right now, and 5.500 due to give birth this month. Menstruating people are taking pills in order to stop their periods, because they do not have pads or water to maintain hygiene. Surgeons are operating without anesthesia. Water is not reaching Gazans because there's no electricity or fuel for water pumps.

There's no excuse for this. Israel justifies the airstrikes by saying they want to destroy Hamas infrastructure and release the hostages, but they have refused to negotiate for their release. Hamas informed Israel they wanted to release two elderly women without anything in return, and Israel refused. Netanyahu said they wouldn't take their own civilians back because it was "mendacious propaganda." When the hostages were finally released, Netanyahu prohibited the hospital from giving press releases. Yocheved Lifshitz went behind their backs and talked to the press anyway, saying she was treated very well by Hamas, but the government abandoned them. They're being used as straw men. Israel is conditioning the entry of fuel to the release of hostages and yet, according to The Wall Street Journal, when Hamas proposed to exchange 50 hostages for fuel they denied. IDF officials have said they fear the release of more hostages because that might withhold the order to their ground invasion. They do not care as long as they can use the hostages as a pretext for their slaughtering.

There's a turning tide for Palestine in public support. Support for Israel was built through decades of propaganda and we are making a dent into it. Zionists are desperate, holding zoom meetings to promote zionism, but we have to do so much more. We have to shame people in power into supporting the Palestinian cause.

Keep yourself updated and share Palestinian voices, looking to inform yourself from the sources. Palestinians have asked of us only that we share, tweet and post, over and over. Muna El-Kurd said every tweet is like a treasure to them, because their voices are repressed on social media and even on this very app. Make it your action item to share something about the Palestinian plight everyday. BTS are real activists, you just don't consider them real activists because they're very attractive. being ugly isn't a requirement to be an activist, you know :) anyway reduce reuse recycle

They are real performative activists yes, but not real activists. To be a real activist, you do not only engage in activism whether it be campaigning, protesting, participating in initiatives, spreading knowledge and education, fighting for policy, legal reforms, volunteering with communities, donating etc. but you also must have an in-depth knowledge of the historical, political, social and economic background and implications of the cause you are fighting for. BTS clearly lacks this (along with some of the other ones I mentioned). They donate money and say a few flowery words to seem like they support certain causes but have zero comprehension or in-depth knowledge of what they are saying and donating to. Notable example is their donation to BLM and then promoting the NYPD’s police robot dog right after (the robot dog meant to increase police brutality against Black and Brown people in New York). Surface-level activism and zero critical thinking of how their choices contradict what they promoted in the past.

When we speak of real activists, we speak of people that genuinely care deeply and are passionate and educated about the causes they fight for, even have their livelihoods on the line and have their lives dependent on! An example is Mohammed and Muna El-Kurd, who live in Eastern Jerusalem and use their platforms to share and spread knowledge of the illegal occupation of Palestine by Israel. Both twins have been illegally detained by the IOF, their lives in danger due to their outspoken activism. Another example is Mahbouba Seraj, a journalist and women’s rights activist from Afghanistan. She runs a women’s shelter in Kabul where Afghan women can take refuge as well as several nonprofit organizations. When given the choice to leave Afghanistan as the Taliban took over, Mahbouba chose to stay in Kabul to continue helping women fight for their rights. She has stated that she knows she is on the Taliban’s radar and yet still has chosen to continue helping women despite the danger she’s in. Another example is that of the three Black Lives Matter founders, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi. BLM was officially founded in 2013 by Patrisse, Alicia and Opal in the aftermath of the murder of Trayvon Martin, addressing systemic and institutional antiblack racism and police brutality, bringing attention to the unlawful murders of Black people (by the police and others) as well as advocating for prison abolition, housing, community initiatives etc. BLM activists have been arrested, detained, injured and even killed for their work, targeted by authorities for fighting for their rights in a white supremacist society.

Activists deserve our utmost support and respect for the work they do, especially when in the face of danger from higher authorities with a lot of power. BTS doesn’t come close to the people I have just listed (nor do they need to as they aren’t activists and shouldn’t be crusaded as such) who put their everything on the line to fight for their causes and future generations ahead. To say they are activists is a true insult to those that actually are. They are performative at best and lack an actual backbone and the required knowledge to enact true change. They are non-threatening in all matters political and never defy power structures (which is the whole point of being an activist). Going to the White House to speak about racism against Asian diaspora... whilst not being of asian diaspora, not having lived our experiences and not having that in-depth knowledge Asian American activists do is... questionable. What exactly can they discuss or really bring to the table regarding hate crimes against Asian ppl in a country they don’t live in??

I’m aware that ARMYs love to flex BTS as activists to add to their “bragging rights” of how “legendary” and “iconic” their fave group is but if you actually genuinely care for and respect activists and the causes they fight for, you would not consider BTS as activists. It’s very disrespectful and insulting to compare a few singing, dancing dudes that fling money sometimes and barely do anything significant for the causes they claim they support to people risking their lives for justice and human rights. All because they are ur faves doesn’t mean you have to worship everything they do. You can acknowledge when they make mistakes or do something hurtful or, in this case, when their activism is performative.

Also your implication that all activists are ugly is very... strange to say the least. To you, maybe. But not me, I never said that 🙅🏽‍♀️. Activism has nothing to do with fitting into conventional physical beauty standards but uh... you do you I guess!

Israel charging the El Kurd siblings “disturbing the public peace” and “nationalism” highlights exactly what Palestinians have been saying for decades.

That “peace” to Israel means silent acceptance of having a boot on your neck and that being Palestinian is a crime.

Imagine being deluded enough to believe Israel wants peace. Israel wants the El Kurd family and others in Sheikh Jarrah to willingly accept random strangers from New York taking over their homes and anything less is “incitement.”

And thats what they want from all Palestinians.

Palestinian twins and Sheikh Jarrah residents, Muna and Mohammed el-Kurd were arrested by the isr*eli occupational forces today.

Muna was arrested from her home. She has been reporting on the everyday crimes of the IOF through her social media, especially her Instagram stories. (She is the girl in this viral video that brought attention to the illegal displacement of Sheikh Jarrah residents.)

Mohammed, who was not present at his house during his sister's arrest, has turned himself in. He has been appearing in many interviews around the world in order to highlight the Palestinian cause. (Here, he calls out a CNN anchor for asking a (frankly) stupid and misleading question.)

They are innocent. This is an obvious attempt to silence these relentless activists who refuse to allow the world to forget about Palestine's illegal occupation.
