If you're visiting the Agean Sea resorts in Turkey, one of the tours your holiday reps will offer is a visit to Muğla Market, which takes place on Thursdays, now I was on a budget, so rather than give the tour companies,a nthing from about £15- £25, get yourself to the local bus station and make your own way there.
It's not all about saving money though, with the tours you are held to a timetable and they will also take you somewhere for lunch, or dinner bare in mind they are probably getting a kick-back from these placea, and again, you are held to a timetable of their setting.
The fare by bus for me, from Marmaris was 85 lra each way, that's just under a fiver in total, the journey time is about an hour. Once you are there you have all the time to yourself to explre the vibrant market. For me it wasn't about looking for something to buy, it was taking in the smells, looking at the varying produce on sale, the vast majority being fruit, veg, herbs and spices, there are also stalls selling household items, clothes, rugs etc. It's a really interesting experience.
Look around at the cafes near the market and find yourself a busy place atohave a Turkish tea or coffee, grab somethigto eat and just people watch.
