Knives saw one plant die and went on a mass-murder tantrum; the feeling is understandable, if not the actions. To him, I wonder if this sounds like Vash not giving a shit about their sisters, because he's found multiple dead plants before, knows what the black hair means, and hasn't done any murders about it.

However, we can tell from Vash's expressions and from knowing who Vash is as a person that it hurt, finding dead plants. He's grieved for every single one; given that we've seen him take the time to respectfully bury people who were trying to kill him, he's definitely given funeral rites to the dead plants. The difference between him and Knives is that he has the emotional maturity to experience anger/hurt and also coherent thought at the same time, and he's aware that humans don't kill plants out of malice. Many of them love and revere plants; even the coldest know that it's outright stupid to kill plants, who are essential to human life on Gunsmoke. The necessity of a Last Run is questionable, but it's undeniable that they feel they have no other choice, and Vash is aware of that. He's aware that, given better circumstances, humans wouldn't be killing plants. (I think Vash would love The Good Place, seeing as it's all about unpacking the many forces that drive people to do bad things and explores the potential people have for goodness, if only given the opportunity.)

And, knowing that humans have been forced into a position with very limited choices, Vash is feeling just as much rage as Knives... but it's all pointed at the person whose choices put them all here in the first place.

Just because Vash isn't throwing murder tantrums doesn't mean he isn't angry, and god I love it when kind characters are allowed to be furious. The emotions are not contradictory. Rage isn't the opposite of compassion; often, it's a direct result. Vash simply has the emotional maturity to hold onto the anger, simmer it into wrath, and direct it where it's deserved.

#Hatsune Miku #VOCALOID #or rather #piapro characters #Hatsune Miku Single String Ver. #<- yep that's the fan module I made for fun last year #the thing is. only half a month to go until it's mid autumn. and every year I try to draw something for the occasion #I just. started early this year... for some reason...... #well I mostly just wanna draw Her lmao. because the pokemon/miku voltage stuff is still being released and Im feelin the effect #and this year's magical miral design is so fuckign good.... thank u to miku artists. especially LAM and rella #as is always the case with this module the instrument/weapon (lol) she uses is a heavily stylized đàn bầu! #and I just realized while drawing this and looking at the ref sheets that I never detailed the pluck lmao #to be fair. usually its just like a piece of. anything #commonly bamboo or bone or plastic. shaped into a longish fingernail shape. its really the way u hold it that matters iirc #but yeah I spruced up the OG design for the instrument in this one lol. this is actually like my original vision I think #I really wanted to make that thing beast shaped. but I Just figured out how to properly stylize it when I designed the module #and! I did say this on stream but I am genuinely very proud of that design! that was genuinely big brain of me! so #future instrument variants will still probably base heavily on that general shape and principles lol. I'm playin in this space its MY muck #also I switched the number on her coat from 39 to 01 bc it's more on theme thats really it. nothin else to remark on there lol #and! once again based the dragon head on the lý dynasty dragon rather than later iterations. thats why the nose fin and no whiskers #and the metal nozzle is kinda supposed to call to mind a temple bell. not super sure i got that across well #but the rim design IS historical! When Jonathan Harker was going around all uneasy because his bed kept getting made and meals kept getting served without ever seeing hide nor hair of another human being, I was like, okay, several spooky things that could be going on here. I read a lot of fairy tales so empty mansions and castles with mysteriously absent staff are old hat to me. I was ready to find out what creepy explanation there might be, if any. I had a few prepared.

Castle is HAUNTED haunted? Sure, we have a vampire, nothing stopping us from having a few ghosts. The long deceased staff of the castle forced to continue serving their master in death as they did in life, cool, excellent.

Demon familiars? All the sensibly freaked out Romanian peasants kept ominously muttering about the devil, that could be happening. Dracula could have bartered for free satanic housekeeping services along with his other Infernal Powers.

Straight up evil wizard magic? Could be a thing. What do I know about what Dracula can do? Maybe the whole castle is enchanted to run itself.

Servants are around, but something is Wrong With Them and they have been ordered to keep themselves hidden so that Jonathan won't see whatever is messed up about them and thus be suspicious? Possible but dubious, if only because Jonathan Harker very quickly proves to be as dense as a sack of bricks and probably wouldn't say anything even if every servant did have blank entirely white eyes and a mass of scar tissue on their necks. Still, it was an option.

But no. No it's. It's just Dracula. Dracula is doing all the domestic chores secretly whenever Jonathan isn't looking. Dracula is running around in the background like a chicken with its ass on fire, making beds and cooking food and cleaning up and pretending to be his own chauffeur. Jonathan is turning his head for a few minutes and Dracula is clearing away all his dirty dishes and sprinting to the scullery to wash up. Dracula is cooking breakfasts that can be served cold and leaving them out for Jonathan along with a pot of coffee to be kept warm on the stove before scurrying off to do laundry. It's just... it's all just Dracula.

Presumably when this book came out, the revelation that Dracula was doing all the domestic work for the castle was shocking and eerie, like, GASP, this castle that should be full of people is actually completely empty save for Jonathan's captor, and GASP, the supposed aristocrat is lowering himself to the work of servants which is proof that something is clearly amiss with him and he is no true gentleman! But I'm sitting here in 2022 in hysterics because it's all. It's JUST DRACULA.
