In spite of people trying to downplay the fact she is a domestic abuse victim treated as unreasonable and stupid for asking for help in a YA novel for young readers, not caring that both her abuser and her murderer are treated as good, worthwhile people by the narrative because they're all superficially written as cats, we did it!
BOTH characters in this poll were victims of egregious misogyny, and Alex DeWitt, inventor of the term fridging, was a worthy opponent. We respect her and the contributions to discussions about misogyny in media she's responsible for! It was a reasonable choice to vote for either option.
But we WON! We're doing it! People outside our fandom are seeing what happened to this character and acknowledging some of the awful things that WC does to its female characters, and ESPECIALLY to Bumble, possibly the greatest example of its hatred of women, fat people, and outsiders in the entire series. Thank you to EVERYONE who contributed to this round of the Canon Misogyny Tournament!!
And to everyone who thinks Bumble doesn't matter "because she's just a cat," WELL,
If you're not on cohost yet you're missing out on my best posts.
I really feel like the tumblr wizard community would have fun on there.
Transphobia is explicitly banned, and meat's on the menu - it picks up where tumblr falls off. It's a good website and the devs are working hard to listen to their users and make things work. They make update posts constantly, being transparent about what's new and what's upcoming. They're just - good. I really like it there.
One thing I’ve noticed about people in or entering their 30s is they don’t make as many compromises anymore. If someone doesn’t meet them halfway, is not up to standard, is just not where they’re needed to be, they’re just like “ok cool” and they move on from the person. Which is not to say they’re less empathetic or understanding, but more that they have learned that time is their most prized possession and they’re not willing to make massive compromises on it. They are not obsessed w the idea of fixing someone (bc the concept of fixing a person doesn’t really exist). They simply move on to someone who is up to par. I want that. I want to always move w the awareness that time is my most priceless belonging and I can never buy it back. Ever. So I have to use it wisely
[ID: A digital comic of Jon and Martin. Martin is a fat white man with short hair, freckles, and a scruffy beard and he is wearing round glasses and a t-shirt. Jon is a thin Arab man with long curly dark hair and a full beard and scars all over his face, and he is wearing half-moon glasses, a coat, sweater, trousers and shoes.
Jon is draped across Martin's lap, gently holding his face, as Martin rests one hand over Jon's and the other holds his back.
Jon: Mahtin, I would DIE for you
Martin: I don't want you to die, though?
Jon, after a pause: WHY

had to get this out of my system it was too powerful
A character looks straight into the camera and says "I'm not interested in romance" and people will still say "No, it's not confirmed they're aromantic!!!" "They could change their mind!!!" "it's a challenge for them to overcome!!!" "They'll have character development that makes them fall in love"
It's like they are given the most blatant answer to a character romantic orientation and they actively ignore it. all the while all it takes is subtext for people to speak as if it is fact for a character to be any other sexuality.
Just like Justin Mcelroy's callbacks to the chilean miners I have once again emerged to deliver this, More Team Greed Nonsense, this time featuring stupid questions ed asks to get out of work
